[00:03:29] Yeah, we're going to take July off so that we can fly, hopefully, if the wind dies down around here. It's the windiest it's been, like…

[00:03:36] Windy? And we went from a high in the low 50s, was it? Last week. Yeah, like Friday or something. Friday. Yeah. And it was 93 today.

[00:03:46] So, the whole week's in the 90s, right? Yeah. Yeah.

[00:03:49] Felt like 103. That was the heat index.

[00:03:53] I think it was the first time I sweated outside this year.

[00:03:56] Yeah.

[00:03:57] I can see why.

[00:03:58] It was hot and humid. Ron does not like to sweat.

[00:04:01] I don't like to sweat at all. No. No.

[00:04:03] Which is why we're all wearing sweatshirts.

[00:04:06] Except for me. And a t-shirt. Yes, I am comfortable.

[00:04:08] T-shirt and underwear.

[00:04:09] And actually, it's funny because it's… Well, I hope we're all wearing underwear, maybe underneath what we're actually on the outside. But anyway, it's a good thing we didn't record yesterday when I came down here because I had forgotten to close the vents and it was like 55 degrees. Oh, my goodness. Like, it was cold for even me.

[00:04:26] That's perfect sleeping weather for me. Yeah. Good sleeping weather. Way too cold. Yeah. I start to shiver. To try to concentrate on something.

[00:04:32] You do shiver a lot. But… why you shiver, right? Because she's cold?

[00:04:37] Yeah, she's cold.

[00:04:37] I mean, do why the body's reaction is to shiver? To generate heat.

[00:04:42] Yeah.

[00:04:48] Well, that's… So when… I don't know why the 55 reminded me. When Tommy and I went to Dayton, it was not Dayton. Toledo. Toledo. Yeah. I get those confused for some reason. It was nice because we both like it really cold at night when we sleep. So we had the air conditioner as low as it would go and on high. 62, I believe it was. Yes. And it was nice. You're welcome.

[00:05:11] Yeah, like I don't get that here as much as I would like to. I get like 67, 68 is the lowest I can go.

[00:05:19] I can sleep in 67, but I prefer it a little colder. Me too. Yeah. Well, and you even put a fan on so that makes it feel colder too. So that's what it's come to. Talk about our sleeping preferences here on the podcast.

[00:05:33] So we're taking July off, as we were talking about. And there's a few reasons for that. Like we need a break. We want a break.

[00:05:41] Well, we've been recording a lot lately with the guest episodes or the interviews and our regular bi-weekly episodes. Yeah, it's been a lot of work.

[00:05:50] There has been a lot going into it, which more than I expected.

[00:05:54] Yeah.

[00:05:54] But it's fine in the winter time.

[00:05:57] Especially on your end because you do all the work.

[00:05:59] Well, when it comes time to cutting grass and doing all that stuff now, I just don't have as much time. So winter is fun, but I want to go fly and do some stuff. So you're going to be out of town for a while in June.

[00:06:11] Yeah, I've got a work trip coming up for June. So that is a contributing factor to taking July off because I just simply won't be around.

[00:06:18] Like a lot of June. Yeah, about half. 19 days. You're going to Hawaii again. Yeah. Oh, nice. For work. I didn't know that. Yeah. By himself, though.

[00:06:26] Yeah, I'm not going this time.

[00:06:28] Oh, come on.

[00:06:29] Because?

[00:06:30] Because I leave the 22nd for Germany.

[00:06:34] Oh.

[00:06:34] So for the whole month of June, we will literally see each other maybe three or four days. Oh, my gosh. That is amazing.

[00:06:42] Well, we're kind of used to that kind of thing because he travels for work. And earlier in our marriage, he was gone a few months at a time. Yeah.

[00:06:52] That's how you keep things fresh.

[00:06:53] Well, I think that's probably why we've been married so long.

[00:06:55] Maybe. It could be. Like, I don't know why Crystal still puts up with me, to be honest. Me too.

[00:07:00] Well, I can go on vacation.

[00:07:03] I can go on vacation. She can go to Hawaii with Tom. Oh, there you go. I mean, that might be a little weird, but I'll go.

[00:07:21] I toured every beach in Oahu. That would be nice. Nice. It was my goal to pick one every day and just lay there all day.

[00:07:28] So we're taking all of July off.

So it was almost like after I went back and listened to, like, one or two of them, I was like, it sounds kind of like I'm rubbing it in their faces. I've got one of these, and you can't get it anymore. And that's totally not what it was about.

[00:08:56] This is the tool that you need to do this. But, by the way, you can't get it anymore. This tool is so awesome.

[00:09:10] Well, it depends on the tool we're talking about, I suppose.

[00:09:12] A lot of things I've seen online, people are designing their own tools and 3D printing them. Yeah. Which is pretty neat, too.

[00:09:22] Yeah, and if you have a 3D printer.

[00:09:25] And you have to have a 3D printer and some knowledge of how to use it. Oh, like a 3D printer?

[00:11:24] So, just email it to Ron. So, I got an email from the AMA about a survey. Did you get that, by the way? I meant to ask you that before we sat down.

[00:11:35] I have not checked my email today, but I may have gotten one.

[00:11:39] I'm not sure. It was four days ago, I think. As of yesterday, I had not gotten one. It was the AMA Pulse survey. There was a few questions in there that regarding they just wanted to know, like, things about us as modelers and what we've kind of been doing. And if we would recommend the AMA to a friend, and if so, why? And if not, what could they do to improve? Maybe they already know Tom's opinion.

[00:12:02] Well, that's why I don't know, like, if, when they do that, I don't know if it goes to every single person, or maybe they do it, like, randomly. Yeah, like, a quarter of our people get it this quarter, and the next quarter we go another set. But anyway.

[00:17:03] Yeah. So it'll be like a normal schedule, like, you'll be home by four or five o'clock every night. Yeah. That's going to be nice.

[00:17:15] But it'll be nice to get in a routine and get your kind of, your evenings back where you don't have to study and stuff. Yeah. It's going to be wonderful. I'm really happy for both of you.

[00:19:03] So, Lori, how did you come up with the idea of putting it off together?

[00:19:06] So, it's a couple reasons. One, I really do enjoy spending a lot of time with Tom. And you're going to laugh at this, but it's really true. You're laughing.

[00:19:17] No, I'm laughing because I know what is coming up.

[00:19:22] Yes. And it's one more way for me to spend time with him and to have conversations with him and for one more thing for us to do together. So, that's number one.

[00:19:32] Number two, you guys talk about in the podcast, how anybody can do this. Well, I am anybody. And so, I wanted to challenge myself and see if I can actually do it.

[00:19:45] You're not just anybody.

[00:19:46] You're everybody to me. Oh, thanks, baby. Oh, my God.

[00:19:52] That's how you do it, though.

[00:20:02] Okay. But what made me laugh is you want to do this to be closer to Tommy and to, to spend the time together. Yes. But when do you plan on doing this?

[00:20:13] Okay. So, let me roll this back. That is ironic. I know. It's very ironic. Wait a minute. Let me roll this back because this was all decided before he had to leave for work again.

[00:20:23] And so, we talked about, like, how much involvement he was going to have while I was building it.

[00:20:28] Yeah, and I didn't want it to turn into me telling her how to build an arm.

[00:20:33] Or you hovering. Exactly. Doing that wrong. Exactly. Or here it's… Because I know how you can judge.

[00:20:40] Or I didn't want it to be a situation where just let me do it because it's faster and easier and I can do it. So, I really wanted it to be an authentic experience. Yes. Okay.

[00:20:48] So… Which is why we, we opted not to do the stick because, no manual and all that. Right. Like, it kind of goes along.

[00:20:56] I need the manual and all that stuff. So, then with him, I wanted him hands off but available as, hey, this is what's going on. What would you do? Or am I doing this right? Then it ended up that he has to be gone for 19 days in June. And I thought, okay, if I'm really going to have a really authentic experience, that's when I should build it. He's still a text message away. If I have a question, I'm sure I can reach out to you if I can't get in. Yeah, I am too. Yeah.

[00:21:27] So, that to me is an even more authentic experience than just having him in the house.

[00:21:33] It's a realistic first-timer experience because of, let's say they, somebody goes the route that we always recommend. you join a club and you get your first airplane and then you usually have someone in that club to get a hold of if you have a question or whatever. And this would be a very similar experience. Very similar experience. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:21:50] I agree. I just like the irony of it. Yeah.

[00:21:54] The irony, yeah. I get that. But, like, the long-term, ideally in my eyes, she does it. She falls in love with the hobby like I did. And then it's something we continue on, after she's built her first airplane.

[00:22:09] And I'm considering learning to fly.

[00:22:12] I think that's awesome.

[00:22:15] I'm not sure if I'm the one to teach you.

And, this is kind of interesting, double pull-pull on all the surfaces, except for the ailerons. So it's two elevator halves, right?

There's a lot of cables and stuff running around inside the fuselage. It looks pretty neat.

[00:50:18] Probably. Well, so, I know a little bit about True Turn. They have, they do some military, I shouldn't say military, some federal, they have some federal contracts. They produce stuff for the feds. That's probably what they're going to concentrate on, because that's where the money is.

[00:50:32] I mean, let's face it. Yeah, they're not closing the doors. They're just not producing spares. They don't have spinners for us anymore.

[00:50:37] Now, to be specific, these are aluminum?

[00:50:40] Yeah. Spinners that are, that are machined from aluminum. Yes. Correct. Yeah. And they also made adapter nuts. the spin-on nuts that goes on your crankshaft that has a hole in it for the, for the single screw that holds the cone on.

[00:50:53] They also made those, which they will no longer. Yeah.

[00:50:56] So, for adapters and spinners, aluminum spinners, we'll have to either do without or find a different source, which I imagine, if you give it time, I imagine you'll find someone.

[00:51:09] Try and fill the void. Yeah. I would hope so. I mean, like, I don't know how big of a business that would be, but.

[00:51:14] I can't imagine it being a huge business, but I mean, they were in business for, I think, more than 25 years, I think, is what I saw somewhere.

[00:51:22] But, yeah, it's a, it's a kind of sad day and it's not a, it's not a story that hasn't been told before from, many other manufacturers, unfortunately.

[00:51:31] Way too many people are quitting on that, so. We'll see.

[00:51:39] Seems like there's a lot more of, like, the e-flight foam airplanes and that kind of stuff taking over, not as much of the builder's airplanes.

[00:51:49] Like, the building side of things doesn't seem to be taken as much, taken over

[00:51:54] As much. I mean, that's a conversation we've had a few times, too, here on the show that, yeah, people, for whatever reason, they either don't have time or interest in building, like, like we did.

[00:52:06] I think it could be. There was definitely a resurgence in, in kit manufacturers, a few years ago, we had the custom kit cutters and all those companies that were doing kits. And even those seem like they've sort of tapered off now, like the company that we dealt with. Yeah. So.

[00:52:22] It's just, I hope it comes back. I mean, I just hope it doesn't get to the point where people get out of this and then forget about it because video games are more fun, building whatever else is more fun. It's just.

[00:52:35] Yeah. Video games are low risk, right? Absolutely. They can turn it on and play. And if they get bored, they turn it off. with an airplane, you get bored, turn it off, it crashes.
