[0:00] Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Wives episode 2024 of the RC Plane Lab podcast. I am Ron. And this is Crystal. I'm Tom. I'm Lori. And I'm Dave. Stan's wife Again Dave is alone again On the episode You've got us Yeah We are all the company you need What does that mean? That doesn't sound right by the way We're all here to support Dave Let me fill in So So What are we going to talk about? Ladies. It's been a year. It actually has been less than a year. Well, about a few days.
[0:50] Yeah, about the time. Only because two years ago and last year, we recorded on the same day, day after Christmas. Oh, yeah. This year, we are the day before the day before Christmas. So it's Christmas Eve even. Christmas Eve even. Yeah. Yeah. You can only say that once a year. Merry Christmas, everybody. I waited a whole year to say that today. Hey, well, it's Christmas Eve Eve. It's in reference to a Friends episode. You've probably never seen it. I saw a meme today on that.
[1:19] That was before my time. But it was somebody that basically just posted a picture of Jennifer Aniston's boobs in that episode. They said, I've waited 365 days to post this. They didn't show her boobs. Well, she frequently didn't wear a bra. Oh, yeah, that's true. That reminds me. For this episode, no cussing. That was Crystal last time. I'll do my best. No, she didn't. [1:46] No, but that reminded me of the whole extra two people here. You were the only ones that tend to do that. So let's keep it clean so I don't have to remember. I have a colorful language. Didn't you ask? What,. Yes, and then I decided that was getting right to the grand finale first, I guess. I don't know. Right to the meat without an appetizer. Why don't you just say what's your peak and your pit of the year? Like what was the best part of the year?
[2:55] And then what was like the one that… Well, you guys did a lot of stuff this year without me. No, we didn't do a lot. We did some. Well, yeah, you did several swap meets without me i didn't keep track of all the swap meets we started out okay few events without me shall we try and go in order yeah i think that's good so january 1st of this year we went flying all right yeah what did you
[3:19] fly is it on your spreadsheet i have no clue tom could tell you probably is it's going to tell you what you flew on january 1st i flew yeah i flew the mig-21 among other airplanes but that's one of them yeah i flew other airplanes since so i put like in the column i have the date last flown yeah so if i only flew it on january 1st that's the date that shows up but there were other
[3:40] airplanes too but i know i remember applying that one see i do the same thing but i don't think any plane i flew then was the only time i flew that oh nice that's a good thing mine takes a day every every time i fly it says what i flew so if i had my computer in front of me i'd be able to tell you i flew through aircraft i know what two of them were i remember your computer there's probably photos actually On our page. I'm sure there is I'm sure somebody took pictures
[4:09] Let's not say I'm sure of anything because we are woefully bad. Let me hosting things like that. You guys talk amongst yourselves I'll go and look Talk Let me take a while because… You're in airplane mode, aren't you? Well, no. Oh, you're supposed to be. My head doesn't work for some reason at my house. Probably because the phone is from 1906. You're not wrong. It's an old phone. It works. I keep asking if anyone wants a new one. He says no. Nobody wants a new one. Right.
[4:44] Sometimes you have to get a new one. It's a pain to get a new one. Right. Sometimes you have to get a new one. It's a pain to get a new phone. He's kind of hard on phones too. I caught that too. Anyway, so, okay, well here's, can you get it to work? Yeah, it's working, I'm just scrolling now. Okay, what is your peak in your pit? That's July, I had something else because I don't know what my peak. There's May. Yep, we're getting there. May. May was good. We'll get to May.
[5:11] That's five months after what we're talking about now. Yes, yes. There's April. It should be like three posts. Oh, look, there's your synapse. Sorry. That's February. And there's January. Okay, January 1. There it is. Who needs a runway? We flew your stick off the table. Remember? Oh, yeah. There's a whole video. Yeah. Yeah, right there. That guy. I remember that now. That's a great plane. We'll get to it later, but that actually is the plane that I flew most this year. Nice. So, yeah.
[5:43] Looks like we didn't really post exactly what we flew but there's pictures told you so and there's yeah it looks like we flew it's documented therefore it has slow ultra stick this all looks like we flew that's probably all i flew to be honest yeah i think i took most of the foam air force that day so i had the mig i had the t-38 these were the airplanes that dave built for me many years ago i'm pretty sure that's all i took that day one of the ones
[6:10] that i crashed no that one was still crashed at that yeah so but i have this before i gave it back to dave for him to is what i started to take some of that foam air force you've had for 10 years plus well i started building those 18 years ago yeah so i have pictures from at least 10 years plus? Well, I started building those 18 years ago. Yeah, so I have pictures from at least 10 years ago of your phone airplane. So between 10 and 18. Yeah. So we'll say like 14. It's just an average.
[6:33] Yeah, yeah. So anyway, yeah. Foam Air Force for me, slow altruistic for you and Dave? My F-105 and the electric Amish thing, which I have no idea what it is. It's that little… What was that from Nolsh? I'm sorry. Toledo? Toledo that I gave the Amish guy 20 bucks. Oh, that's right. I remember. Yeah. I was going to say, the Amish and a plane? The Amish guy is also… Slash plane looking thing. Yeah. I remember that now.
[7:00] The Amish guy is the guy who bought the Electro Streak off, or the Shiny off of. Oh, the Shiny? Yes, exactly. Same guy. He the Electro Streak off, or the Shiny off of. Oh, the Shiny? Yes, exactly. Same guy. He has good planes. He does, actually. Interesting. Yeah. So that January 1st we flew. One of the things I was going to bring up, so at the beginning of the year we had a new updated listener survey that went out. One of the questions we asked was what is your favorite episode?
[7:24] And of the responses we got, believe it your favorite episode and of the responses we got believe it or not and i don't know why it would be any other way the many of the responses most of the responses for favorite episode was the wives episodes oh wow how does that make you feel well at first I thought you were going to ask me how many times I voted or how many times I filled out the survey. That would be zero. That makes me feel good.
[7:51] That would be a valid question though. That other people want to hear what we have to say. Maybe they can, I don't know. About your husbands. Right. I only speak kindly of you, honey. Always. Always. Crystal's always nice to me, too. I couldn't do it with a straight face. I couldn't. I tried so hard. Love you, babe. That's terrible. Love you, too. Anyway. I beg and plead every year, and here I am by myself. That's okay. Here I am by myself. Well, in her defense, if she was mobile, hold on.
[8:27] But no, by not being here, she's only about 55 words behind Crystal. That's probably true. 58. Anyway, no, it's okay. Sometimes it's just not their thing. No, I get it. Sometimes, yeah. Highlights of the year then. Okay. What was, I don't remember my lowest point. You don't have a pit? Did you crash something that made you sad? There's so many of them. Did something catch on fire? Did something? No, it didn't burn see i did crash
[9:06] something that made me sad but the the end part of it made me happy yeah so i would say for me the highlight of the year was probably a low light for dave's year like crashing that little football plane oh the goblin the goblin that was really really entertaining i had a blast destroying that thing okay i'm glad i'm glad you don't feel some kind of way about that because that was pocketbook took a hit yeah but i get
[9:38] that but entertainment wise that was that was extremely entertaining. I wish we would have gotten that on video. Yeah. Because it was impressive. It left a mark in the field. Yeah. Like the impact was the shape of the leading edge of the airplane. Was I there that day? Because I feel like I was there when you crashed something. Well, I only crashed twice this year, so that must have been it. It could have been. It could have been. Yeah.
[10:04] It was impressive. I mean, good times were had by all watching. Yes. this year so that must have been it it could have been it could have been yeah it was it was impressive i mean good times were had by all watching yes exactly well and i think flying i mean previous to that dave i think was having a good time yeah it was a good flyer yeah that happened wide open it became quite heavy yeah but anyway that, I feel like for me, that was the highlight of the year. What?
[10:27] That is the highlight of your year? Of flying? Yeah. RC related, that's the highlight of your year? Well, no, maybe not RC related, but like flying related, absolutely. Okay. I didn't know you were going to categorize it. If we're doing flying, then that's actually easier. Okay. Yeah, that's why. I'm sorry, are we not going with flying? I didn't put any parameters around it. I thought it just had to do with the hobby. I thought it was RC in general.
[10:54] That was probably my unspoken intention. Well, I mean, RC in general, the whole week of Joe Nall was pretty much a highlight, I would say. Got my first jet there. I was going to say, your jet was a big one. Yeah i would say got my first jet there i was gonna say your jet was a big one yeah i picked up my first jet i guess rc in general that would be the highlight but flying for sure what's your question highlight was probably toledo
[11:16] really over joe and that happened early in the year too okay well joe nall this year was really rainy right there's a lot of work a couple days but not terrible too but yeah i wasn't overly enthused sorry well that's okay you have to apologize it's not for everybody it is it is for anybody that likes rc airplanes if not what i'm curious has daniel talked about it much what do he he think? Oh yeah, he likes it. We talked about it.
[11:49] I don't want to go back next year, but maybe the year after. Oh, okay. I'm just saying, we'll be there then too. Probably. Yeah, you really like going. It's freaking expensive, but it's worth it. I think it was cheaper for you guys this year because you didn't have the RV expense. The RV rental expense. I think it was close to being a wash. It was offset by fuel. Oh, true. That's true. I didn't think about that. But we were able to bring everything. Take everything with you.
[12:18] You could sleep in the bed while Tommy drove. Yes. Sleeping in a camper while you're driving down the road is the best sleep you're ever going to get well and not only that but you didn't take daily trips to the gas station for your generation who's driving that yeah what do you mean i would say that depends on who's driving once i'm out just the who's doing went back to sleep did you sleep while reggie was driving i don't agree he drove more like a truck driver I don't dream.
[12:43] He drove more like a truck driver. I don't know why Reggie would drive like a truck driver. It was more like jerky and more… What, no? That was not my experience. What was your experience? Well, that was the only time I got to sleep was when Reggie was driving because Ron didn't drive any. I will this year, by the way. After we got back, I've driven that and I'm comfortable driving it now.
[13:04] It's recorded and documented. Oh, that the way. After we get back, I've driven that, and I'm comfortable driving that now. It's recorded and documented. Well, I guess. Oh, that's fine. I guess. Well, I've never ridden with a professional truck driver in their truck, so I guess I can't really compare, but it was not a restful sleep that I got. Let's just put it that way. I'm just glad you all got some sleep. I was up for 36 hours. Yes, I shouldn't say that. No, thank you.
[13:31] It's really funny. That's probably why you didn't have much fun. The week leading up to Joe Knoll, Tom starts to feel guilty. Do you want to come? You should come. And I'm like, absolutely not. I know. It would be neat one year to have the wives come with us. Yeah, I know. Maybe for a few days or a couple days or something. That's an awful long trip for a couple days. I know. It is. But I just feel like I do. I feel guilty because it's always on Mother's Day and you're my kid's mother.
[13:58] Well, here's the thing. Our kids are adults and it's up to them to come through. I don't disagree with you. Yeah. But we all know that that's, generally speaking, not how it works. You just send a threatening text. That's what I do. It works. True. Hey, it's your dad's birthday on Wednesday. Hey, it's Father's Day. What are you doing? Do remind them. Yeah. We tend to be more fluid with dates on things like that. Yeah. Most time we forget. Well, honestly, though, it doesn't have to be
[14:28] that day. As long as you recognize it and celebrate it, that's where I'm at right now with holidays and stuff like that. Anniversaries. Anniversaries, which this year, if it weren't for Crystal and Ron reminding us in the morning happy anniversary, we probably would have forgotten. Yeah, we sent a nice text to them, happy anniversary anniversary just that's the good friends we are anyway here it comes what go ahead and finish finish i have we forgot to text them on their
[14:57] anniversary however three days later by the way it's not like it was like half a month or half a year however when they got married because it's december 19th they made as wedding favors ornaments so every year christmas tree ornaments every year i put the christmas tree ornament on the tree i take a picture and i send it you think that'll be a reminder for the date even just to say i feel like well you acknowledge that it's done like that box is checked. Your job is over? My job's over.
[15:29] In that case, happy anniversary next year. Thanks. No, you can do it anniversary month. Right. The rules are just stacking up too much. One of our kids was born December 2nd, and we both forgot until Christmas Day. So that was a rough year. So Dave, why would you say Toledo is the highlight of the year? Wait around it back. Yeah, I don't really. I'm sorry. No, it's good. I don't really know because I didn't really have any other major highlights. Toledo is always fun though. It is.
[15:57] It's always a good time. Yeah. I'm glad you guys had fun at Toledo. I am too. Thank you. Thank you. Did you sell a lot of things in toledo not really no i had one big item sell right off the bat and then just some small stuff trickled out and i fought with a guy over five dollars and kind of like at the decatur's one yeah what is with me in this it's like just yeah yeah it's five dollars just give me the five dollars and take this whatever
[16:33] it is retract did you find anything interesting at the swap meets i've been trying to unload things instead of bring back. No, thanks. I think that was supposed to be the goal this year. Anyway. We'll get to that. Don't worry. It's all about getting rid of my crap because I need to move stuff. Are you feeling claustrophobic with how much you own?
[17:08] I'm tired of being yelled at. Oh, in one ear the other just let it be it's okay yeah but at some point it's old where did this come from had it for years see i wouldn't even know that was in the rafters of the garage before i brought it in here i wouldn't even know because he'll come in the side door and take it straight downstairs and i would not know if it was there on the garage you mix it in with the
[17:27] herd it tends to just disappear so all you have to say is oh that's reggie's well it used to be it used to all be ed's because ed was constantly bringing stuff over and yeah so so now he's been replaced by reggie yeah pretty much oh that's reggie's he's gonna get it someday he won't see the problem is she watches reggie bring stuff through the front door oh He's got to get it someday. He won't. See, the problem is she watches Reggie bring stuff through the front door. Oh.
[17:46] Take your glasses away from her. She remembers which plane it is. I wouldn't. Crystal would have no clue whatsoever. I would have no clue whatsoever. What color was it? I don't know. I think Tom's most exciting day when our last kid moved out, and he can use that bedroom as the airplane hangar official. Yeah, I don't blame him. He's got a whole room. I'd love to have a full room for it. He does. He's got the full room. You're love to have a full room for it. He does.
[18:05] He's got the full room. You're talking about, you have like a whole basement for it. And garage. Not for it. Trust me, I've heard. I'm trying to help you out, Crystal. Oh, yeah, he doesn't need this much. Hey, if you follow Tom's reasoning, it's N plus one. That's his. N plus one. That's his. N plus one. It's your total number plus one. That's how many you need. Yeah. N plus one. Where N is the number you currently own.
[18:37] My highlight is going to have to be getting my turbine waiver and flying my first jet. I would have pegged that for years, 100%. That's a big accomplishment. Yes. I have that to look forward to still. Maybe that will be next year's highlight for me. Could be. And then also getting my second jet. Yes, but what did you do recently, as in the past week? What did you do? I've done a lot of things. I know, he's got to thank you. You ordered your engine. Oh, yeah. Well, that's kind of old news.
[19:12] We've already covered that. That was two weeks ago. Oh, I'm behind an episode or two. That's all right. No, but that is exciting. I did order and pay for the engine. So I'm just waiting on them to deliver. To manufacture. Well, actually, yeah, exactly. I'm waiting for them to produce it. You ordered it and it hasn't even been made yet. Yeah. That's kind of cool. He raised the money all by himself. True. Yep. He called the job. But I am. No house funds were used for this.
[19:35] I am super, super excited. But I don't feel like I can count that yet until it's in my hot little hands. I get it. And I won't get it probably until sometime in January. And that's okay. Plenty of time to get it going for flights in March or April. Exactly. Yep. No problem. But anyway. Yeah. You? That was my highlight. Okay. My low light would be your fault. Okay. Do tell. Crashing my Viper 90 90 how's that my fault so i blame you because i was oh yeah i mean
[20:12] inadvertently i yeah trying to follow in tommy's footsteps so i'm flying like he takes off with his i take off with mine right after it and i usually go three minutes and that gives me enough time to come around and my battery is not like super low and he's still flying at three minutes i'm like oh we're fine i'll keep flying with him and stuff and so i don't even know how far in we get and i decide okay i've been up way too long i'm gonna come in for a landing
[20:41] Okay, I've been up way too long. I'm going to come in for a landing. So I come in, line up. I get 10 or 15 feet off the ground. Low voltage cut off. The motor dies. So it stalls, falls on the ground, and just breaks. Shatters? Not terribly, but enough to where it's pretty bad. That's that one right back there. Anyway. So I'm like, how is he still flying? Because I was following him. He had a bigger battery than I did, and I had no idea. I thought we were flying on the same pad.
[21:12] But it wasn't that much. Well, that, so the battery wasn't, it was a 5500. It wasn't that big. No, I thought it was a 58, but still. It's a 55. So I was on a five. Right. So it's 500 more million. So that's 10% more. Plus, I feel like I do a little bit better job of modulating that left stick. Fast is fun. Well, I don't disagree, but… Until you run out of battery and crash. Flying a long time is also fun. No, flying fast is more fun. Well, you just have to be mindful then.
[21:43] The batteries charge quick, so then you can get right back up. True. So like I said, I was following his lead without even thinking. But the good, I mean, honestly, the good thing about that is it went from a low light to a semi-high light because it is now sitting over there on floats. And you got a brand new one to replace it. Which I would not have done the floats. Yes, I did. So that's happy to. Yeah. But I would not have put the floats on it if I only had the one.
[22:12] And I got to say, it just looks right. It looks freaking awesome. Like I would never have guessed that an electric sport jet on floats. It looks like a Franken plane. It does not. It totally does. That looks like a Franken plane. It does not. It totally does. That looks like it's made for it. It looks like they belong together. It's the right size. It's the right angle. How does a fighter jet looking plane belong on floats when it doesn't ever happen in real life?
[22:37] You have to suspend a little bit of disbelief. Well, I'm not good at that. But it just looks like they were made to go together. They're two different colors. Wow. In what world? Well, the colors, I'm not good at that. But it just looks like they were made to go together. Yeah. They're two different colors. Well. In what world? Well, the colors could be fixed, but the shape, everything matches. The angle of the dangle. Yeah. Everything, it just looks good. Yeah.
[22:57] I'm happy with it. I can't wait to see this thing fly off the snow. I'm glad you can see your vision because I certainly cannot. It's right there. How can you not see it? I see it as wrong. The plan will be if everything goes according to the plan to be able to take that in flight at the lake at Joan O. Already planning. Five months ahead. I mean, really? I mean, that's going to be awesome. Yes. so how many planes are you planning on taking like another trailer like not to get off we
[23:34] need a trailer topic now since she brought that up 2026 should be the year of the trailer. 2026? Five. God darn. Oh, no. 2026. Why did I go up to 2026? 2026 will be the year of the third trailer. Nope. The third trailer. So hopefully we'll probably have to upgrade by then. What? 2025 will be just like a 6×12 or something like that. We'll start with that. And then I guess 2026 can be the year of the bigger trailer if I need to. I'm sorry you said 2026 first.
[24:06] Well, there's a lot of things that we say that we didn't mean. I'm sorry, Tommy, I cut you off. I forgot what I was going to say. Joan, all planes we're taking. Oh, I'm trying to talk Ron into taking a jet. Hopefully both jets, but I have not been successful. I don't want to yet I'm not thinking I want to take it with me well you have time to practice I understand has nothing to do with practice it has something totally
[24:34] competent to fly a Joe and all with a jet yeah I have no issues with that my my thing with that is so that to us is cool jet, but to Joan all, that's just not. A little toy. I mean, really, compared to all the other big toys that are there. How many of those actually flew at you? Like a bunch of them. People like a lot of other people flew those. You're not incorrect on that.
[25:00] But if I'm going to spend the time, the energy to fly that kind of plane, I would rather just not do it there because I don't know how to describe it very well. Like, it's more enjoyable for me to take just low ultra sticks, the Viper 90, all those kind of airplanes. You can take those too. Well, I know. But we don't have an unlimited supply of room that's true i mean i guess it depends what kind of trailer i buy before then in 2026
[25:35] but i mean like i just i don't know that doesn't i i don't have the draw to take that okay there well if i have my waiver and a few flights under my belt, I will be taking mine. Yeah. And that's fine. Because, yeah. Nothing wrong with that at all. How much time will you actually get on that flight line, though? Is that an issue? I mean, you can. No, it's not really. No. Especially beginning part of the week, it's not busy at all. You can fly pretty much as much as you want. Okay.
[26:00] I didn't know if there was like a queue or something that you just got to wait in. When it gets busy. Yeah. When it gets busy, yeah, you kind of get in a cue. But like Ron said, the first few days or early in the morning or late in the afternoon when it kind of dies down, yeah, no trouble getting flights in on the main flight line. But no, I understand what you're saying, but I like, I just, I don't know, something cool about flying my jet at Joe Knoll.
[26:29] Like I said, I just, I enjoy the float line. I enjoy the electric line. I enjoy those too. It's just laid back. People are cool. It's fun. I think, for the most part, people are cool on the main line too. Yeah. They take things a little bit more seriously. Is it, are you are are some of those planes intimidating and you just feel like you don't fit in with that or no no no not at all i just don't he feels like his plane is not cool enough to fly well that's kind of what i was
[26:55] getting at i don't that's i don't more or less what you said i don't feel that at all i just don't have the draw to fly that there. Okay. There are certain things that you're not drawn to either and you can't really put your finger on exactly why. No, I know why I don't want to fly at the 3D line. No, okay. Obviously we can't. Right. There's certain things that you're just not drawn to doing. I love watching. Even if you can't put your finger on why.
[27:25] And that's kind of one of those things. Okay. Makes sense. Right on. Right on. So that was the low light or low point for you. Which turned into being okay. What about you, ladies? I mean, I know your RC happenings this year were not grand. But do you have any high or low lights? Yeah, I have a low light. Oh? I turned 50. How's that hobby related? You didn't say it had to be hobby related. You just said, I know you don't have anything hobby related.
[28:00] Well, I mean, that's what we were talking about. Well, I don't know. Okay, so hobby related. Like I said, I know you haven't had a lot of grand hobby related experiences. My pit was that I did not make time to learn how to fly the plane. But my highlight was I did make it out to the field a lot more this year to watch you fly and to hang out with you. How's that for hobby related? So tell me, would that be considered a plus or a minus? I consider that a plus.
[28:25] I love it when she comes to the field. He does. I feel bad because she gets bored. He invites me all the time. Which I, that makes me feel kind of- I do not get bored. Bring a Kindle or a book or something. I do, that's what I did. Yeah, that's what I did. Well, and this year it was a little different too because Coopie wasn't doing well and then I didn't wanna leave him, so. That's true. Yeah, okay. But next year- Crystal? We crystal will be different we'll talk
[28:47] about goals yeah soon oh yeah i didn't meet my goals oh we're not what's the highlight oh okay fine yeah pretty much so that's your highlight well what was your goal what was your what was your low we'll talk goals yeah we'll get to that in just a little bit. Okay. I don't know. Wait a second, I have a question. What? Did you ever finish that plane you were building? We'll talk about goals and stuff in a little bit. That's on the list when we all do our goal stuff. We'll talk about-
[29:21] Well, I thought that was last year's goal though. We'll do an update. All right. Now, I really next year I want to go out and be out there more. Like, I really cannot remember this past year. I know. Well, there is one thing that happened to the two of us that we have not I have not talked about yet on the podcast. What? In October. Oh, yeah. happened to the two of us that we have not i have not talked about yet on the podcast what in october
[29:48] oh yeah it's not rc related though no but you have nothing else to say we're grandparents oh yeah we are now officially and pop pop over there grandma but yes yeah but even that like it's it doesn't sound right younger than Yeah. We are now officially old grandma and grandma. Yeah, but even that, it doesn't sound right. By the way, Ron is younger than both Dave and I. And me. Just saying. I was giving her to Ronnie last night and I was like, go to Dad. I'm like, wait a minute, Grandma, I'm not going to be your dad.

It's going to happen. It's like I wasn't ready to turn 50 and yet it happened anyway. I don't think I'm mad about being 50.

It was awesome. That's the first time I think I've ever done that. That is the first time you've ever done that.
[32:04] I kind of screwed him a little bit, but he pulled it out in the end not in the good way not in a good way no crystal falls out of her chair i kind of people pg i did hey i said it i kind of told him i don't know if i want to celebrate or do anything so he took that as oh she doesn't want to do anything until about a month which by the way a normal person would this is actually rc related it is rc related so i'm
[32:30] bringing it around because you guys were supposed to go up to wisconsin and he says hey we're going to go up the weekend of the fifth and i'm like that's my birthday weekend and he was like okay and i said that's my birthday weekend and he said, you said you didn't want to do anything. I'm like, I don't think I exactly said that. And he said, but you did. And I said, I didn't exactly say I did. And I didn't exactly say I didn't. That's woman logic there. I hate that. And he hates it.
[32:56] Oh my gosh, I hate that. Anyway, he had very little time to pull it together. And it was a beautiful party. So I did. And Crystal and Ron came and our kids came. And I was really surprised at how many people actually showed up because. There was a lot of people. It was probably a beautiful party because you told them exactly what to do. I didn't. I knew nothing. Oh, that's a cute restaurant. Let's go have it there. No, that was all me. That was all him. Wow. Yeah.
[33:19] Honestly, I knew there was. I happen to like that place though. There was some, I knew there was something going on and he just said, you just need to be ready by six. That's all. So 645. They had some pretty good food. Yeah. He did well.

[35:42] Because the last couple of times you've been here, I've heard lot of spongebob quotes oh well our kids were pretty much raised in spongebob so and tom watched a lot of spongebob with them and at any given moment they can just belt out spongebob i don't remember the boys yeah cody watched it a lot oh yeah like the newer ones like i don't yeah yeah well i don't remember much when Well, when I'm making dinner, they'd watch SpongeBob in there. He would keep them occupied while I made dinner.
[36:08] I think there was a point where, I can't remember his first name, but Christensen stopped doing the voice for SpongeBob, and I think that's kind of when I quit. Yeah. No clue. I think. I might be wrong, but somebody was doing the voice of SpongeBob, and then the voice changed at some point. It doesn't hit the same. Yeah, and then we kind of quit watching. Anyway. [38:29] you oh yes because i couldn't actually read it at the time what do we have like an hour or something silly it was a little more than that hour and a half maybe i think we had an hour and a half maybe two hours it's a really good place and then the first thing we did when we got there is sit down to eat yeah i know but still that took up a little bit of time. But no, that's an impressive place. If we go back, we'll have to make time for that because that is a fantastic museum.

That right it went like 30 feet past where i was looking because apparently it hit took the wings off and the wings are what i saw that just
[45:33] like it's a two-piece wing right that's held together with a plastic bracket sure bracket piece and that all came apart. The wings came off. And then the fuselage, which by fuselage, we mean stick pretty much just kept going, which I didn't see that. Like I didn't realize that went by and it took me forever to find that until one of the other guys is like, I know what you're looking for. It's way out in the field. And I was like, okay, let's go. Let's go walk. But yeah.

My sister started at the North Rim. Which one is the one that's not as populated? Probably the North Rim. North Rim is closest to Vegas. South Rim is a longer run.
[50:07] The South Rim, I think, is where all the touristy stuff is. That's what I'm wondering. It doesn't matter because she hiked from one rim to the other over four days. Yeah, long haul. Yep. Yep. Oh my God god you're going down there and that was the last thing scary stuff i'm alive to tell the tale and so are you thank goodness yeah so august yeah yes coming back around the airplane stuff was the illini jets, yeah. That was a really good time. That was the first jet event I flew in and only so far.
[51:51] It was the first jet event I watched or attended. Yeah. Therefore completing the pact that I had made with the failing half of the pact makers of flying within two years of the day that we made the pact makers of flying within two years of the day that we made the pact. Who would you be talking about? It's Reggie, right? In case we don't know, two years ago when we went to the Illini Jet event, Reggie and I did, we told each other, we made a pact that two years, we gave ourselves plenty
[52:24] of time to do it. Two years, we would both have jets and fly at that event. I feel like two years, if you're focused, is plenty of time to make something like that happen. It's a realistic goal. If it's within your means, yeah. So two years, you guys made a pact, and then you fulfilled your pact at Illini Jets this year. And then other people didn't. Other person didn't. Other person failed. But he has his jet. He hasn't. Yeah. And it's complete. No.
[52:56] It's just not ready to fly yet. I think the stipulation was you had to fly it. I believe it was. Yeah, I understand. He's getting there. At the event. Yeah. Therefore. The event has come and gone he didn't complete the pack months ago we're talking august so close though he really i mean he got really really close he has the jet he has everything he needs for it it's just not quite
[53:17] ready to fly yet it's in the exact same you don't worked. I talked to him like a week ago. It's in the exact same state. You tried, honey. You tried. It's the exact same state it was three months ago. And it's minutes. It's literally minutes away from being ready to have somebody made it for him. All I can say is it didn't happen. And it won't even happen this year. There's six days left of the year. Yeah, it's not going to happen in six days. And it's winter. That was the next thing.

But I did manage to get a couple flights in so that I could say I did it. And you had a good lunch with a couple guys. Yeah, that was fun too. But they weren't there flying. No, they weren't part of the event. But what, I don't even remember what, oh what oh i flew the viper the viper 90. because that's
[57:28] a scale type airplane so therefore i met all the criteria and at the next meeting i scale chose where the full size was scale-ish there is i mean there is a full-size throwing a flag on that ish there is i mean there is a full-size throwing a flag on that is there a full-size viper apparently corner tommy there is no there's another that's a kit built yeah it's a home-built jet so anyway at the next meeting when we handed out the awards
[57:57] i i got the pilot's choice award by myself choosing were you the only one that voted By myself. Were you the only one that voted? Yes, he was the only pilot there. I was the only pilot there. By default. For that one, yeah. So all the other people at the meeting then just drew their names out of a hat for the awards they won. That's a very diplomatic way of doing it. One minor cost me the rotor blade and a servo on the gyrocopter. And as we alluded to earlier, we obliterated the Goblin. One of the most entertaining days of the year. As the peak for you. I would definitely. Watching that. Yeah, I'm sorry. It just kaplooey. Yeah. And it went from 150 mile an hour to.
[1:10:13] Zero. Exploded. Yeah. Actually, I would say it went to minus mile an hour because it bounced. Mile an hour. Oh, it did go backwards, didn't it? Yeah. So, yeah, it had a negative. Negative. Yeah, speed. Negative mile an hour. Negative mile an hour. Negative mile per hour. Of those flights. Don't change, Tommy. Don't change. Of those flights, two were gasoline flights. I only had one glow flight. Really? Well, that's one more than me. So there were 97 electric flights. Wow.
[1:10:42] Of those 100, 12 were maiden flights in flights 13 float and 24 night flights nice that's a good idea i didn't keep track that's a respectable breakdown that is a very respectful break so 97 electric two percent gas one percent glow two percent were crashes That's so easy when there's a hundred flights. That's a math, great. 12% were maiden flights. Now those were not all my aircraft. It doesn't matter. If you were piloting, we've discussed this, those count on your spreadsheet.
[1:11:17] 13% were flip flights. 32% of all the flights were at Jonal. Oh. Really? Wow. Well, that's interesting. That is. That's a whole week of straight flying. Well, that's true. Yeah. A week of concentrating on just that. Yeah. So, yeah. 24% were night flights. And this is the one that kind of scared me. 40% of all flights were flown with just four aircraft. Huh. So, between four aircraft, they accounted for 40 percent in the
[1:11:45] total so you have favorite yeah yeah clearly of that the fms super cab yep which i just got in august i would have guessed that it's 14 flights yep that was the one i flew more than anything let's see if i can guess the other at least two of the other ones f86 I think I only had two flights on that. [1:15:20] which is now a fun airplane to fly now now that i've modified it slightly and then the fms kingfisher which was kind of the turbo timber evolution before i got the turbo timber evolution if that makes sense and that one came from to not toledo dayton dayton yeah you were out with turbo timber for a while because it went yeah yeah i was waiting on to get it back from horizon but yeah 24
[1:15:45] flights each for those two and then yeah other miscellaneous flights looks like i got 19 flights on the oh it whited out oh the viper 70 which that was a great fine airplane to fly yeah and then 11 flights on the concchendo, 10 flights on the 90 millimeter Viper, which makes sense because I got that after the 70 millimeter Viper. So probably would have been much closer had I got them at the same time. Yeah. I would have thought you would have had more
[1:16:15] stick flights. Yeah. Not a lot of stick flights this year, honestly. And not a lot of electro streak flights, which I'm really kind of disappointed because that airplane is a lot of fun to fly. That one looks like I only flew it. Where did it go? [1:19:22] the one wheel thing but that wasn't really a crash nothing you had to walk out into a field and go pick up pieces exactly no but it came down not the way you wanted it so it was already down like but i was doing the one wheel thing on the field and it pulled right but it wasn't a full flight to where you stopped and were able to taxi off and finish up oh it was close enough no i'm just saying like if that's what we're counting then maybe a couple of these I can take off.

The next one was the UMX Turbo Timber Evolution with 56 flights. And then the next one under that was the Habu 50mm SS EDF at 39 flights. So two of the four were EDFs for my highest flights. Very interesting. I've taken a liking to those. They are fun. Well, you had an impressive year, Ron.

[1:29:51] set like for example i wanted to fly the beast like a bunch and i ended up flying it like six or seven times and then got rid of it so that would be kind of a goal that i didn't meet that would be a giant a goal that I didn't meet. That would be a giant fail. That airplane would still be mine, by the way, had I had room for it. I get it. It was bigger than, my eyes were bigger than my stomach. The logistics of getting it in and out of the house was a nightmare.
[1:30:20] That's so nice. That makes it not fun. Luckily, the double vision flies better, I would say, than the Beast does. And it's smaller, so it's good. Stuff like that. Anything? No? Well, I mean, I was hoping to have the glider done for the glider event. Which, that's funny you should mention that, because my next topic was unfinished projects for the year oh fun we're not talking about that we'll skip over that one because i don't even know what unfinished projects i have i have a few
[1:30:50] i do too well there's some back there oh crystal you got one don't you i don't even know where it is right now it's right over there as a matter of fact so part of this is your mess that's such a good friendship he has your background thank you very much greatly appreciate it i don't even know where to start i'd have to like look at the little log thing oh yeah you have your little notes sitting down over there it's
[1:31:12] it's so cute i had to dust them off the other day to look at it there are a few things about it though that just like it like if it came with instructions for a newbie, that'd be nice. That's the problem I had too. Yeah, exactly. Remember, because I said it's not, the directions were not as clear as I feel they should have been for a beginner plane.
[1:31:35] Well, I like one part I had to take off because I put it on upside down and I didn't realize it until I was like several steps in and I'm like, oh crap. I mean, there's a lot of assumptions in those directions. Yes. And I don't know what I'm doing. Right. So I need it broken down like a toddler. Right. Cliff notes for building airplanes. One of the things I started keeping track of, which isn't complete yet, was total wingspan of all my airplanes. Oh. It's over 200 feet, by the way.
[1:32:09] Because he's got one giant glider. Yeah, it's like 21-foot wingspan just by itself. Yeah, and there's also a big telemaster in there. Is it done, though? There's still a big telemaster in there, too. Actually, I sort of have to say. Can you count it if it's not done? Yeah, it's still an airplane. I have to take some credit for that not being done because I have the nose of that airplane still in my unfinished projects. Yeah, that's what stopped me. Call them. You can blame it on me.
[1:32:33] It's fine. Because I honestly thought I would have it done like that, but it turned into a bigger project than that. Oh, I thought I'd have mine done like that too. Anticipated. You can see where they're just sitting over there looking all. It's going to be cool though. On my treadmill. Oh, what? I don't want to hear anything about the treadmill because that has been down here because it is such a great airplane storage device well it actually i would
[1:32:54] like to be able to use it when i want to use it i don't care if it's like once a year it's not even once a year that treadmill has sat open for the last year and a half and the only one that's gotten on it has been piper there you go it has been used to play she she's played anyway i'm not gonna fall for that one dave do you have any unfinished projects no just the ones i've been working on dave is a machine yeah he's very consistent yeah he's like, be like Dave. Yeah. Be consistent.
[1:33:25] Be like Dave. Don't be like us. My goal right now is to get that Goldberg Cub painted by the end of the year. It's all covered. It's all covered. Yeah. And. I think that's doable. I've got. Depending on weather. It's going to be painted in the house. Oh, yeah. You use latex. That's right. So, it'll be. So, I'll set my little fan in the window and do it to it. See, I got two days off coming up for Christmas and then I got two days in the middle of next week. So I got four days.
[1:33:54] Are you gonna paint it silver? No. Your favorite color? It's gonna be two-tone gray. Oh my God, Dave. No sparkle. He's consistent. He likes silver and gray. He's's very consistent and all the other colors that disappear in the sky there is some comfort in consistency dave i don't know how he does it i really don't i don't have any trouble seeing them i really don't. It's going to be a mid to dark blue gray on top, mid gray on the sides, and white on the bottom. Does this one have
[1:34:34] the doghouse behind the wing? It does not. It's an any one, which is actually a factory stock cub. Nice. That makes it easy. A lot easier. Cool. He'll finish that because that's what Dave does. He finishes his projects. He's a man of integrity. He's a machine. I only do one thing at a time. Yeah, but you do it. I've been recovering this stupid thing for months. I can't wait to see what you do with the decaf cub thing that you found two years ago.

[1:37:47] like okay 12 year old one thing i like pretty colors like metallic pinks and yeah yeah we already bought you all the covering remember she changed her mind they didn't have like the specific colors because they discontinued what I really wanted. Monocode or ultracode? You think I know? I have no idea. Probably new covers probably. I don't know what she got. She got some old name or off brand. I'll have to bring my box of covering because I have lots of colors. He has a ton.
[1:38:18] Pinks, metallics. We bought her like six or seven. We bought her like six or seven rolls. Yeah. And then you have a vinyl cutter. You could do some fun vinyl graphics on it. Okay. To me, a flight is a takeoff and a landing with a flight in between. They're non-solo pilots, though. A buddy box flight should suffice. Here's what I'm going to say. I am going to do for sure a buddy box flight. There you go.

Start over. Okay. I was going to say, I can't ever see you being done. You've been doing this for decades. That's my entire adult life. Yeah. Now, I would really like to, and it's not going to happen, but I would love to liquidate everything and start fresh.
[1:42:44] Well, I can understand because you're kind of wanting to get away from spectrum, but you're so heavily invested in spectrum that that's almost what it would take to go a different route. Yeah. Yeah. Radio. Yeah. Yeah. Protocol. That's the word I was going to say. That's definitely going to have to have one of the adapters on it to do spectrum. Bind and fly stuff, sure. I've got so many spectrum receivers.
[1:43:08] What I'm saying is if you liquidated everything, you wouldn't have to worry about that. You're still going to have to have a multi-protocol. Right. I get that. But, I mean, that's just not going to happen. But I would really like to… I mean, you never… If you really wanted it to happen, you could make it happen. You might not get the number you're looking for. Well, that's. But. You can get. Like, that's how I financed the purchase of my turbine.
[1:43:32] Like, I sold a bunch of stuff that I didn't really want to sell. And I sold it at a price that probably shouldn't have sold, but I had a goal. I just don't know if I could put in enough effort to sell it piecemeal. I would like somebody to come in and write a check. i get that show up with the box 100 because yes i dealing with so many different people and there's so many flakes out there they say they're going to do
[1:43:54] something and then they don't three weeks to get rid of a rabbit cage is yeah yeah i kind of did the same thing to finance the jet with buying a lot of stuff too. Yeah. So, but yeah, that's not going to happen, but I would like to at least be net zero. Okay. Okay. Cool. Thomas. Well, I mean, I flew 200, well, 200 plus times this year, so I would like to do 250. Oh, nice. I'm going to write that down too because I won't forget.
[1:44:23] And I think that's doable because I don't have as many things that are going to take me away from home. Yeah. As of right now. For 2025. That we know of. Right. That's why I said for now. Yeah. Like schools. I did two schools last year that took me away for about three weeks. And anyway. Your trip this year is in the winter, so it doesn't matter. It's in February. Yeah. So whatever. Yeah. No loss there. Yeah. So whatever. Yeah. No loss there. Nope. So yeah.
[1:44:47] By the way, that's probably the weekend I'm going to be going up to Terry's. Of course. So we'll say 250 flights. Okay. I would like to be net negative. I'm not going to put a number. So if I'm minus one, I'll be okay with that. But I would like to, not so much what you you said dave i don't want to liquidate but i i want to and i've mentioned this before i want to fly fewer airplanes more often yeah
[1:45:13] does that make sense like i want to get really fine-tuned yeah i want to get really good at flying the jet or maybe learn some 3d or or whatever but having so many different airplanes they all fly differently they don't i mean flying is flying and it's always a good thing it always develops skills when you fly anything yeah but there are certain types of flying that i would
[1:45:37] like to get better at like precision with the jet or 3d with like the, believe it or not, the turbo timber does pretty decent 3D. So that, yeah. So we'll say 250 flights, net zero or net negative, preferably. You? I'm going to say 300 flights. Really? I'm not going up. Okay. Same reason. I think that's smart. Same reason? Take a little less pressure off so you can maybe enjoy it more? What's the reason? Because I don't know.
[1:46:16] There was a lot this year, and a lot is in keeping track and making sure I was on pace. So I think it'll just be more enjoyable. And if I hit 450 or 500 flights, so be it. But I'm not going to hold myself to having to do that. Okay. A lower goal, less pressure. And then it doesn't become fun. Or work. Yeah. Then definitely net negative. Okay. Yeah. How about as every other year? I'm down with that. I think I will officially set fly everything that's flyable for next year.
[1:46:54] I'm so close to doing it this year without really trying. I think that would be an achievable goal. But it's on paper now. So if I don't achieve it, then I will have to hear about it. See, I definitely have airplanes that I know like a lot of them that I want to get rid of. So I'm fine on that aspect. But what I'm not sure about is what is new that's coming in. Oh, well, right. So I'm fine getting rid of a bunch of stuff.
[1:47:21] But that's a whole year of new stuff coming out that we i know i know of at least two that i want to buy this coming year so we'll see well then get rid of three well discipline ron yeah yeah i know i've i've exercised some extreme discipline this year like there's been several airplanes that i wanted to buy and it didn't because i had goals yeah and i'm proud of you well thank you the other thing i would like to do that we have not done yet, oddly enough, go to Muncie. Oh, yeah.
[1:47:51] Go to the museum. Yep. And fly there. That would be fun. That's a good goal. I thought so, too. Let's do that. Let's put it on paper. Put it on paper. It's on paper. Fly at Muncie. Okay. [1:48:57] our rams swap meet up in wisconsin that's rrams right that's something that range by tomorrow afternoon because of the the way weather changes around yeah i think that's rock river aeromodelers yeah i would like to go to that one. I want to meet one of our Discord members and hand him an engine. So, yeah, I need to go to that one if possible. As long as weather permits, we need to make that happen. I think we'll be okay. Yeah, I think so. New Year's Day fly.
[1:49:22] Well, that's kind of a given. I mean, we do that every year. I mean, that's kind of just a standing reservation. Yeah. No matter the weather. Come on, Lori. We've got to do it. It is not a monstrosity. I'm looking at it in the reflection. what it reminds me of?
[1:50:18] It reminds me of Toy Story where that kid, Sid, takes the toys and makes makes them into one yeah yeah makes them into like uncultured swine yeah that's what it looks like like mixes like i don't care it looks like the the airplane of misfit designs it's beautiful it's okay as long as you like it purpose it's precious ron it's just.
