[00:00:14] Go on. You can do this. Go on. Is it done?

[00:00:18] Is what done? Yeah, you can. Yes, it's time to go. Okay, I started over. Go.

[00:00:25] It did not start over.

[00:00:26] I started over.

[00:00:27] Go. I saw you push the button.

[00:00:29] Just say hello.

[00:00:30] Welcome to the RC Plane Ladle podcast. This is Dave.

[00:00:32] I'm Tom.

[00:00:35] And Ron just lost it.

[00:00:38] I'm Ron. Ron is turning red.

[00:00:40] That is funny. Poor Dave. Perfect. It was well done.

[00:00:44] And Ron is now purple. He's purple.

[00:00:50] I'm concerned. You're getting better, Dave. That was awesome. Good job. Hi, guys. Hi. How are you?

[00:00:58] Good now.

[00:01:00] I know. That made my day. Thank you. Wow. So we're back. Yes. We are back. We honestly have, like, nothing to talk about, so this is going to be hard.

[00:01:11] Well, we've not done a lot of RC stuff because of stuff. Mostly weather and work. Weather and work. Yeah.

[00:01:20] Lack of transportation.

[00:01:22] Dave's truck is still broken.

[00:01:23] We have a couple, actually, three new airplanes to talk about, so we'll get to that. And then this is pretty much going to be a Dave-centric episode. I think we're just going to let him talk. Because we, I mean, no offense, Dave, but Tommy and I kind of carried the last one.

[00:01:38] I wonder why you guys carried the last one. Well, because you chose not to go to Joe Knoll.

[00:01:42] Yeah. It's up to you.

[00:01:43] That was a good choice on my part. I would have sunk up to my knees.

[00:01:46] You would have had plenty to talk about. Did you say knees? Yeah. Plural? Plural. Dave, you only got one. Hey. Oh, he's purple again. Okay. Oh, this is bad. So. Okay. We're done making fun of Dave. No, we're not. No, Dave's got some talking to do to make up for the last episode.

[00:02:14] There you go. So, Dave, it's all you, buddy.

[00:02:17] Okay. We're listening.

[00:02:18] It's all.

[00:02:20] So, you really want to know what's been going on.

[00:02:22] Yeah. Well, I mean. The good stuff. The good stuff, anyway, for sure.

[00:02:25] So, yeah. No, really, I've got a little bit of flight time in, a couple trips to the field. It's been pretty marginal for me, what I've been able to fly, because there's not much you can stick in the Mustang. Especially a convertible. Yeah, small trunk. And the roof's got to go somewhere. So, that's even smaller trunk. And the weather's been kind of sucky.

[00:02:48] Yeah. I think, like, we were having this discussion at work this week, actually. Like, I know, like, global climate change is, like, a thing. I'm not going to, like, get into the arguments, plus or minus that. But, in Tom's humble opinion, the seasons are shifting. Like. Yeah, it seems like that. I would agree. Like, this time of the year, 10 years ago, it was already hot and summer. what I'm saying?

[00:03:18] Like, we have yet, I mean, I guess we did have a couple of 80-degree days so far. But, like, by this time, 10 years ago, I mean, the corn would already be up to your, your thighs, and you'd have 90-degree days already by now. Thigh. Or thigh, in Dave's case. Thanks.

[00:03:35] I did go 36 years with two, okay? Just letting. That's true.

[00:03:41] So, oh, have you looked at the weather for this weekend, though? I have not. It'll make you happy. It's hot and humid. It will not make me happy. Oh, good. It's going to be warm. It's, like, 93. Oh, that's not so bad. I think it's a high on the valley.

[00:03:54] I mean, I'm not, like, a huge fan of, like, high.

[00:03:59] Temperature and humidity.

[00:04:00] Temperature and humidity is what does it for me. Yeah. But, like, the number doesn't bother me so much as the humidity.

[00:04:05] Oh, it bothers me.

[00:04:06] I see that and go, eh, time to hibernate. Time for the air conditioner.

[00:04:11] Hibernate? That's a wintertime thing. I was trying to paint last night, and it's like, oh, man, it is so sticky out here.

[00:04:16] It's like, do I really need to be doing this or not?

[00:04:18] But, like, this feels like late spring, actually more like mid-spring weather to me, not summer, which is technically we're summer now. Until next, are we now? Yeah. Yeah. Memorial Day, right? I thought that was next week for some reason. Is it Memorial Day, the 21st? Oh, okay. Well, I guess.

[00:04:37] So we're a couple days away. A couple days. But anyway. Close enough. Well, and actually, I think that's probably about the day that it's supposed to get stupid hot. And, like, if you look at the forecast now, we're pretty much 80s, 90s. It's just been good.

[00:04:50] Wind and rain are here for the last two months.

[00:04:53] Yeah. It rained today again. Tornadoes, actually. Yeah.

[00:04:58] It's always fun.

[00:04:59] Yeah. Multiplously, yeah.

[00:05:01] Anywho. Silly weather. Well, there we are, Tommy. We're talking again. Dave. Dang it, Dave. Gosh.

[00:05:06] I just like to listen, guys. But you've made a couple trips to the field.

[00:05:12] Yeah, I made a couple trips to the field and was able to. So every flight now is a brand new trim flight because everything's new on the radio.

[00:05:23] Oh, yeah, that's right.

[00:05:23] So I'm getting really tired of trimming airplanes, guys.

[00:05:26] We'll start flying the same one.

[00:05:28] Oh, and over again, then, yeah. I've got 50 of them to get. Well, yeah, in time. Yeah, you don't have to do it all at once. By the way, I did check my numbers again last night, and it is back to 50, so.

[00:05:40] Good for you. Nice. Yeah. Good deal. Did you go to the club open house last weekend?

[00:05:44] I did not. But it was raining heavily.

[00:05:47] They actually held it, though. Yeah, it was only raining in the morning, I think. It looked like a pretty good turnout. Sorry I didn't go now. Not really. Yeah.

[00:05:55] Yeah, I actually was wanting to go up to Streeter, but. Yeah, we didn't make that one either, I forgot. That fell through for me.

[00:06:02] Yeah.

[00:06:02] Yeah. So, yeah, I did not make the open house at the club. Just, I got up, looked at the rain, and it's like.

[00:06:12] Yeah, that was sort of what happened to me, too. Like, I checked the weather the night before, and I saw the rain in the forecast. I'm like, well, game day decision. And then I woke up, and it was raining. I was like, nope, I'll do stuff around the house.

[00:06:26] And, yeah, I didn't go. Yeah, I had aquarium maintenance staring me in the face, so I spent four hours up to my elbows in salt water.

[00:06:35] Hmm. He does have two elbows.

[00:06:39] Is it going to be like this the entire podcast? I know. I kind of hope so.

[00:06:43] Okay. Sorry. No, okay. Happy. We have to. Keep it upbeat. We're getting all sad. Why are you guys so sad? Oh, it was raining. How are you sad? Well, I was laughing at making fun of Dave, but that's.

[00:06:55] It wasn't making fun. I said he had two elbows. That's not making fun of him.

[00:06:58] I guess you're pointing out his pluses.

[00:07:02] I don't know. Okay.

[00:07:04] All right, moving on.

[00:07:04] Not his minuses. So, a few weeks ago, I actually was able to go out with Daniel, and we were able to test fly his new big stick.

[00:07:13] The two-trip stick?

[00:07:15] The two-trip stick, because it's too big to make. I love that name.

[00:07:18] I do, too. You need to cut some vinyl lettering for that.

[00:07:21] Yes, we do. Everybody doesn't know about it. We went up to Brian's. God, what was that?

[00:07:28] Months ago.

[00:07:28] Yeah, I think we talked about it. Oh, that was back in January, because we were coming back from Beloit. Oh, okay. That's right. We stopped at Brian's, and I ended up trading my P40 for this big, basically, it's a basic big sweet and low stick, I think it is.

[00:07:44] Mm-hmm. It looks like a giant sweet and low stick.

[00:07:46] Yeah, it's big. We did not have the trailer, yet we tried to put this thing in his full-size Nissan Titan. You could get either the wing in it, or you could get the fuselage in it, but you could not get both in. So we ended up having to make two 100-mile round trip, or 100-mile one-way trips to pick up this stick. So it's the two-trip stick. So he finally got it all put together and ready to go, and we got it out the field, and I did a test flight on it.

[00:08:17] And it's got a US-41 in it, which is, not a great engine, but it's serviceable. It works just fine on this airplane.

[00:08:23] Is it as loud as his G38s?

[00:08:26] It is really close.

[00:08:27] Really? Yeah. Man, he does like them loud.

[00:08:30] He does like these loud—it's got the same mufflers as a G38 has on it, but—

[00:08:33] Oh, well, there you go. You mean straight pipes? Stuff some steel wall. A muffler.

[00:08:38] Yeah, it is actually a little bit quieter. It's not nearly as irritating. I think it's a different switch. Irritating. That's a good word. God, I can't stand it. Anyway, I did the test flight on it, and it flew fine, and no problem. I gave it back to him, let him fly it. Everything was fine. And it's got—it had electrical tape wrapped around the ignition lead going to the spark plug, which several of his used engines have those.

[00:09:09] I think that's mostly due to people nosing them over and scuffing them and just wearing through the insulation or whatever. Didn't pay too much attention to it because he's got several engines with electrical tape wrapped around it. The Daniel thing. It's the Daniels thing.

[00:09:24] It's electrical tape around the lead. The ignition lead. Yeah.

[00:09:27] Anyway, he takes it up—or I actually give it to him, let him fly it around a little bit, and he goes to bring it back in. And I hear it coughing a little bit in flight. And so I ran it quite a bit on the ground. I took a pretty decent flight with it, landed it, gave it back to him to fly. He takes off with it. We never put fuel back in it.

[00:09:48] I was going to say, all this without refueling.

[00:09:50] Yeah. It's got a good-sized tank in it. So I figure, okay, we're probably getting—he flew it for quite a while. Okay, it's getting low on fuel. It's starting to gag. It's time to land. So he goes to bring it back into the pattern. And it's kind of cutting in and out in the approach. He lands it. Taxi's two-thirds of the way back to us. And I see the ignition coil or cable just flopping in the air.

[00:10:16] Oh, you mean the high-tension lead?

[00:10:17] Yeah, the high-tension lead is—yeah, it's just flopping.

[00:10:19] Just dangling in the breeze.

[00:10:20] Yet the engine's still running. What? Yes. So apparently, as this lead would flop back and forth in front of the coil—

[00:10:28] Oh, it would get close to the plug.

[00:10:29] It would park, keep the engine running.

[00:10:32] That's funny.

[00:10:33] And then it would move its way out of the jump area.

[00:10:38] Mm-hmm. Yeah.

[00:10:39] And then it would flop back into position. It would spark the engine. Yeah. It would fire a couple rounds.

[00:10:43] Well, the coil's working good.

[00:10:45] Yeah. So he's got Bluetooth ignition on this thing. It's pretty cool. Oh, wireless. That's funny.

[00:10:49] Wireless ignition.

[00:10:50] I like it. Yeah, I've never seen such a thing. That is one heck of a coil, I tell you. Yeah. If it's jumping there and then jumping the plug gap.

[00:10:56] Yeah. That's impressive.

[00:10:58] Yeah. High power. Should have told him he needs to just hold on to that and spin it a few times and see.

[00:11:04] Then you'll know. Yeah. Then you'll know how strong it is.

[11:07] UNKNOWN: Yeah.

[00:11:07] So I have never seen anything like that. Bluetooth ignition. I've never seen anything like that in my life. But it was pretty impressive. Yeah. So did you get it fixed? Yes. We ended up, he bought a box of junk G38 a couple years ago at Toledo.

[00:11:21] We got like five of them for 75 bucks or something.

[00:11:24] I don't know. He's got a whole tub of parts. Yep. So he just went through and found one that didn't have electrical tape on it and swapped that coil out. Nice.

[00:11:35] So it's a little more Bluetooth ignition.

[00:11:37] Yeah. It's pretty impressive though.

[00:11:40] That is impressive. So for it to make a connection, like how, how it would be, it would be worth an experiment to put it back on and put it back on and then see how far away you can get it, get it to jump and still run. Yeah. Just don't put your fingers in the way of the, of the arc or the propeller. Well, that too.

[00:12:01] But, yeah, that was, it's like, man, why is this thing coughing and gagging so bad?

[00:12:06] That was not a fuel. Well, now if you had plenty, it was out of spark occasionally.

[00:12:11] So that, that was a lot of fun we had with that. just never expected anything like that to ever work.

[00:12:16] Yeah. Crazy. What else to fly?

[00:12:19] Flown various different electric things. Anything I can stick in the, well, I've, I've, I've brought my wife's car a couple of times. She's owned the truck for like 15 years and I've driven it three times. So yeah, it's like, a little Santa Fe. It's quite a quality difference. Oh, sure. Yeah.

[00:12:39] I mean, do the, it's big enough though, right? Like it has, has a second row seating, right? That folds down.

[00:12:45] Yeah. It's got one row seating and I've got that folded down. let's see what I take. I took the, carbon Z Cessna one 50 last weekend. That's good. That's not a small size. Yeah. Yeah. it pretty much filled it up. I was able to stick that and the electric streak in there. Oh, and the, a UMX pits. So it, it, that had to ride in the front seat.

[00:13:05] That's quite the assortment.

[00:13:06] So the electric streak and the Cessna were in the back and then the pits was in the front.

[00:13:11] But there's a method to your madness as to why you're flying so many different airplanes.

[00:13:15] So I have to fly all these different airplanes because I have to trim every single air.

[00:13:18] It's like he's flying them for the first time.

[00:13:20] Everything's first time. Kind of is. Yeah. Yeah. I'm so sick of trimming airplanes.

[00:13:24] See, I would think that'd be kind of exciting because it, like I said, it'd be like flying it for the first time again. No, I don't think so.

[00:13:29] After the first six or seven, it's like, I'm sick of this.

[00:13:32] I get that. See, you need to go get a new radio.

[00:13:35] At least you're getting flights in though.

[00:13:37] Yeah. That's true.

[00:13:39] Too bad there's not like an exporter. Although the DX9 is from a while ago.

[00:13:44] I was concerned about doing the programming for the paramotor, the Hobby King paramotor, which I love flying the thing. I was concerned about that because the program is a little difficult with that, the way things have to work. And I got thinking, Hobby King's got that FreeSky radio that they sell under the Ternachy name. I can't remember the name of it, the orange one.

[00:14:05] Yeah.

[00:14:06] And all of their popular aircraft are in it. So I thought, huh.

[00:14:10] Yeah, that's what FreeSky Steve was telling us.

[00:14:12] Yeah. So I went to their website and just took a look. They had it on there. It says for the X, I think it's an X-14, I think is what it is. I thought, I wonder if I can just download this and then put it in my plane. So I downloaded it and followed the directions for downloading it into the Ternachy radio, which is FreeSky. By golly, it worked. Nice. It took, like, sweet. Two minutes. Awesome. Then I went through and changed everything. But,. Well, yeah.

[00:14:41] But the basics were there.

[00:14:42] The basics were there. So did you look at the program in the DX9 first to sort of get an idea of what mixes or trims or any of that?

[00:14:50] I did not because I figured I had that as a fallback. I could always just delete it from the FreeSky radio and start fresh with the DX9 stuff if I had to.

[00:15:02] Okay. Have you flown it since?

[00:15:04] Because it's been too windy. Yeah. And that thing will not tolerate wind. No. But I was absolutely impressed and I was able to just download it.

[00:15:11] Yeah. That's pretty neat.

[00:15:12] And it would have flown as is. But I moved the switches around the way I liked them. Gotcha. And I adjusted some things.

[00:15:19] Yeah.

[00:15:19] I wanted a little more throw out of it. Based on what I was getting out of the other, the DX9 programming, I wanted a little more throw.

[00:15:25] Cool. Sounds like you're getting pretty comfortable with the FreeSky radio.

[00:15:28] It's very comfortable.

[00:15:29] Yeah.

[00:15:29] I picked up the DX9 doing that for the first time in a long time. It's like, man, this thing feels cheap. Oh, yeah. It's the light.

[00:15:36] It's light. Yeah.

[00:15:37] So it was, it's been fun. I really enjoyed it.

[00:15:41] Yeah. I love how excited he is. Me too. Over that simple programming thing that he has been able to do with Spectrum for years.

[00:15:49] Oh, the Spectrum thing took forever to do.

[00:15:52] Well, that's because it's a DX9. Yeah.

[00:15:56] Anyway, so that's ready to go. Cool. I did a few more UMX planes. So basically I spent, aquarium maintenance and programming is what I did Saturday.

[00:16:08] Yeah. It works. Yeah. Well, I mean, you're still doing hobby stuff. I'm doing hobby stuff. Programming is hobby stuff.

[00:16:14] It counts.

[00:16:15] I've got a restoration project underway.

[00:16:18] And what plane was that? Mr. Mulligan.

[16:21] UNKNOWN: That's right.

[00:16:22] No, Stinson. Or Stinson. Okay. Sorry. That's right.

[00:16:25] I did the Mr. Mulligan a couple years ago.

[00:16:27] That's right.

[00:16:27] I put ailerons on that.

[00:16:28] I forgot. And that one crashed afterwards though, right?

[00:16:31] No, I've never flown it since then.

[00:16:34] No, the one that crashed before that though, right? The one that was crashed was the Toledo. But that was a, we're leaving. That was a Mr. Mulligan though, right?

[00:16:41] No, I bought the Mr. Mulligan at Toledo for like 20 bucks.

[00:16:45] Yeah.

[00:16:45] On the way out. On the way out. Yeah. And that's when I rolled over with my chair.

[00:16:50] Well, I thought which one, maybe I'm confused. Which one did you get that you flew at the field, but it was with, like it came ready to fly and it was like the cheap transmitter or something? I thought it was that one.

[00:17:01] Oh, it was that one. And it flew fine on that antiquated equipment. Why did I think you crashed it at the end of the day?

[00:17:06] I don't think you crashed it. No. No. No. I mean, it was, it wasn't like, you could tell it wasn't a plane that Dave had put together with his own stuff.

[00:17:16] Yeah.

[00:17:17] What I mean? Like it flew, but it flew kind of wonky. Yeah. But it didn't crash it.

[00:17:21] It flew in 1989 style. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:17:23] Like a three channel.

[00:17:24] It was three channel, double A powered. Yeah. I remember that. With NICADs that came with it. That's right. It was like a thick cell NICAD or something.

[00:17:34] Yeah.

[00:17:34] It was marginal at best.

[00:17:36] And you had like 15 seconds of light time.

[00:17:38] Yeah. Yeah. It did fly. Oh, a nice takeoff. Time to land. Yeah. That was pretty much it. But I did, then after that, I swapped out for modern equipment. I put a, yeah, you put Ailerons on it. And I put Aileron on it. I had, basically I had to do some wing repair because I rolled over the wing with my chair. So I might as well upgrade.

[00:17:57] Yeah.

[00:17:58] Others have done that too.

[00:17:59] Yeah. But the Stinson, it's a little bit bigger.

[18:02] UNKNOWN: Yeah.

[00:18:03] And quite the restoration. This is the one that was yellow.

[00:18:06] Oh, I remember this. This is the one that Daniel took up to Toledo and you went home with. Right. Okay. I got a very good deal on it. Yeah.

[00:18:15] What? You took one of mine home too, right? Yeah. I took your Cub home for 30 bucks. That's right. Yeah. It's sitting in the corner waiting its turn.

[00:18:21] Mm-hmm. That will be a good airplane. Like that really will be a good airplane. If you put a little bit more power in it.

[00:18:26] Yeah.

[00:18:27] And recover it.

[00:18:27] I think there might be something wrong with the motor on it. It doesn't turn freely. So I'm just wondering if it's got a bad bearing in it or it's got a magnet dragging.

[00:18:36] Short maybe. Yeah.

[00:18:37] Yeah. I don't know. If you've got to flip it, it's very draggy. It doesn't want to spin free. So I'm just wondering if there's something with it. I haven't had time to deal with it.

[00:18:45] Yeah. Yeah. I'll be excited to see that one. Like I like that airplane. It was a good size. Nice and small.

[00:18:50] And Dave will do it right.

[00:18:51] Right.

[00:18:52] And I just don't have the time.

[00:18:53] It'll look good when he's done with it. So we'll get around to it. Then when he gets sick of it, I'll probably buy it back from him.

[00:19:00] I'm already thinking. It's like, why do I have this thing? I've got cubs coming out my ears right now. How many cubs do I need?

[00:19:06] Well. Well, yeah.

[00:19:08] Well, no.

[00:19:09] Like, honestly, though, once it's done, perhaps, because I don't remember if I, I know I told you, Tommy. I don't know if I told you, Dave. So, no, I don't think it is. So, okay. I took those. Well, did you or didn't you? I might not have. We'll see. Okay. So I took those floats off of the Cub before you got it.

[00:19:26] And you put it on something.

[00:19:26] Because I read you could put those on the, whatever size that is, the smaller Ultra Stick. The new one.

[00:19:34] Oh, yeah. The Ultra, the 1.1 or 1.2 Ultra Stick.

[00:19:40] Because I had, like, originally I had the original version of that. And I really never liked the way it flew. It was when I got off of you, Tommy. So I figured it was just the way it was set up or something like that. At the Decatur swap meet last year or whatever, I bought the newer version, the updated version. And it flies great. Like, it's fun to fly. So I figured that would be a good thing to do also for floats for Joe and all.

[00:20:05] And come to find out, the new updated version of that airplane does not accept floats. It's built completely different. There's no mounts underneath. There's no, I mean, like, you just would have to do a lot of work to get the floats for it. Even though the floats were designed for the original version, not the second one. So that fell through.

[00:20:25] So now I have a set of floats just hanging in the garage that, I guess, if you want them for that plane or if you want to get rid of that plane, we can figure something out. But I have no reason to keep them at this point. That was a great plane on floats.

[00:20:39] Yeah, I'm sure.

[00:20:40] Just a little underpowered.

[00:20:42] And it might be something up with that motor.

[00:20:44] And that could be. That's all original. I mean, like, honestly, the servos and stuff that were in there, like, to go from full down elevator to full up elevator was like 17 seconds. I mean, it was pretty slow.

[00:20:56] If I remember right, there are GWS servos in there.

[00:20:58] Oh, really?

[00:20:59] Yeah. There was like, ooh, he flew with those.

[00:21:01] It's a pretty airplane. I like the yellow and silver.

[00:21:03] Yeah, it looks great. I mean, it's the same as what I have now, just shrunk down a little bit and actually not foam floats. I still have an issue with that. Yeah, I know. It's okay.

[00:21:14] 15 feet away, though.

[00:21:15] You can't tell. Right. But like I said, for the small one, though, that was a good airplane. You'll like that one.

[00:21:23] Yeah, it'll be fine. I just got to get around to it. I got, like I said, other things going. Yeah, I get it. I don't want to talk too much about the Stinson because there's things going on with that.

[00:21:31] Then don't. Then don't. Speaking of Cubs, by the way, I'll pat myself on the back. Here it comes.

[00:21:38] Everybody, open your newest edition of Model Aviation to, I don't even know what page it is,

[00:21:43] But there's a review from me and the Cub in that one, and I thought that was a pretty good looking review.

[00:21:48] Is your arm okay?

[00:21:49] I mean, it kind of threw it out of socket.

[00:21:51] Yeah, a little sore.

[00:21:52] Okay, a little bit. Okay. I mean, nobody else is going to pat me on the back, so I guess I have to do it.

[00:21:57] Right, right. I mean, yeah.

[00:21:59] But the pictures are, that's, I think my favorite part of the whole thing was the pictures and the time you and I, Tommy, got to spend together taking pictures and flying it and all that kind of stuff.

[00:22:09] That was actually, man, that's a good flying airplane.

[00:22:12] It is.

[00:22:12] Like, I've gotten to fly that.

[00:22:15] Several times.

[00:22:16] Off the gear and the floats. It's, I mean, they did a really good job with it.

[00:22:22] It's a Cub, but it's got plenty of power. I like overpowered airplanes, and that is definitely an overpowered airplane.

[00:22:28] It is. It is overpowered, but it's really handy on the floats. Yeah. because it gets right off the water. Yeah. it's not like a Viper 90 on floats.

[00:22:36] You really have to work it off the water. Yeah.

[00:22:38] Anyway. Yeah. Good. Yeah. So check out the review. I have to hand it to you. Well done. Good job. Oh. They're getting better with each one, I'm just saying. Oh.

[00:22:49] I don't know how to take that.

[00:22:51] I'm just saying you're getting better with each one. You're owning your skills.

[00:22:55] Thank you.

[00:22:57] It's a compliment.

[00:22:58] Thank you. Is he now becoming a photojournalist, is it?

[00:23:00] Well, I mean.

[00:23:01] I don't know about that, but.

[00:23:01] I mean. It's getting there. He can now say he's an accomplished author. Multiple. Published. Accomplished. Because published means you can be published once and say you're a published author. But now you've been published more than once, so you're an accomplished. Oh, really?

[00:23:16] I didn't know that.

[00:23:18] That's Tom's.

[00:23:19] Oh. I thought that was an actual. Tom's take on the real world. I'm sorry. So don't take that to the bank. Just. No. Yeah. That's Tom. Google that stuff first.

[00:23:26] Sure. Anyway. Moving on. Dave, we're like on a podcast with a celebrity. Yeah. Who? You.

[00:23:35] You. Oh, stop it. Continue, Dave. What else you got?

[00:23:38] Look, he's getting uncomfortable.

[00:23:40] Well, yeah, because I guess it hurts when somebody else pats me on the podcast.

[00:23:43] Yeah, yeah. That's weird.

[00:23:44] Trying to wreck my brain here. See what else I got? That's about all I'm doing. Yeah.

[00:23:49] Oh, okay.

[00:23:50] You want me to talk about the little thing I've done then?

[00:23:53] Sure. I'll go last.

[00:23:55] Oh, if you have. Go on. If you have.

[00:23:56] Well, I mean, I just have one evening with Reggie.

[00:24:00] And that's not enough. I was going to say. Sorry.

[00:24:02] Well, I mean, I took three airplanes and Reggie took his new, new, Haboo, Haboo 2.

[00:24:11] What do you mean?

[00:24:12] Haboo 2. What happened? Well, I mean, you saw what happened to the first one. I wasn't there.

[00:24:16] What did you hear happened?

[00:24:18] Well, I heard he crashed the first one.

[00:24:19] Oh.

[00:24:21] Anyway, so he just had the Haboo and then I took three airplanes that still had charged batteries from Joe Null. And that's why I took those airplanes. Really? I know. I know.

[00:24:33] No, I mean, that's, I just.

[00:24:35] It's terrible.

[00:24:35] No, it's not.

[00:24:36] But they're all now safely at storage charge and in the fridge waiting to be charged for.

[00:24:41] Hopefully this weekend we get to do some flying. But that would be nice.

[00:24:45] But yeah, I got, what? I got three flights with the Viper 90, which is all put back together. The repaired Viper 90? Yeah, it doesn't look beautiful, so I can't wait to cut into it and put a thrust vectoring system in it someday. Mm-hmm. But yeah, it flies as good as it did before the crash. So that's good. I got everything.

[00:25:03] I'm not surprised with that. Those fly. They do. Really well. Yeah.

[00:25:06] And then I took the Kingfisher because I had, like I said, batteries. And then I flew the UMX Conscendo. Man, that thing flies great. It really does.

[00:25:17] I've blown mine for a while.

[00:25:18] It's fast. When you want it to be, it's slow. If you want it to be, set it up with flaperons and it can be really, really slow or set it up with spoilers and you can spot land. It's just a fun airplane to fly.

[00:25:31] Yeah, I guess I didn't even think about being able to do that, but I have mine set up that

[00:25:35] Way. It's a lot of fun.

[00:25:36] So it's not on a white harness or anything then? Nice. Yep.

[00:25:41] So anyway, I got about three, six, nine, 11 flights. So I'll make sure to update my spreadsheet.

[00:25:49] Good for you.

[00:25:49] You're way ahead of me. Well, maybe not for the year, though. Probably. I forget where we're at for the year. I don't know.

[00:25:56] Oh, I know where I'm at. It's pathetic.

[00:25:59] Well, you've had transportation issues. Mostly.

[00:26:03] Let's stop with the excuses. And motivation issues. That's been hard. Like, I'm going to be honest.

[00:26:09] Well, the wind really takes the wind out of my sails.

[00:26:14] It just knocks it right out of there. Sorry. Wow. That's sad.

[00:26:17] So that's, that's really all I've been up to since the last time we recorded. I got one evening with Reggie, which was, Reggie really likes that habu. It does fly nice.

[00:26:27] Yeah. I like that, too.

[00:26:28] It's like a nice slick plane. Like what?

[00:26:33] So, oh, his ears are burning. He's calling you right now. Yeah. You want to answer it and put it on? No. I wish we could.

[00:26:40] Hey, Crash, let's take a call.

[00:26:41] Yeah. But anyway, yeah, the, that's really all I got. Over to you.

[00:26:51] So I've only got 76 flights this year. How pathetic is that?

[00:26:54] Gosh, I might have more than that.

[00:26:56] I know. All right. So I'm not feeling as bad. No. I've got 39. Oh, you, you still suck, though. Oh, I still suck.

[00:27:03] Jeez. I mean, yeah, Dave, that's pretty terrible.

[00:27:06] That is pretty bad. I'm just teasing. No, actually, I forgot last time I went out, I got to add three more to it. So anyway, yeah, the only thing I really did is we went, Crystal Piper and I went over last weekend to, no, I'm sorry, the weekend before.

[00:27:23] No, that was last weekend. No, it was the weekend before for field work.

[00:27:27] Oh, for field work. So Crystal Piper and I went over to Eli. We had our glider tow event this past weekend, and we went and did some field work, did some grass cutting, did some other stuff. It's amazing how quickly, like the RC car tracks get overgrown and stuff.

[00:27:48] Yeah, you showed me pictures of that, and I was like, oh my, it looks like it hasn't been touched in years, but it's actually just been weeks.

[00:27:55] Yeah, it's sad how fast those things grow. So we ended up spraying weeds and doing all that stuff. I think we sprayed 21 gallons of grass and weed killer and playing on going back this weekend to do that again. It was kind of nice, though, having the trailer. I'm hoping to help, too, by the way. Cool. That'd be good. Yep. Actually, if we do go this weekend, there's really not a lot of hard stuff to do then.

[00:28:18] Oh, I mean, certainly the grass will need to cut.

[00:28:22] Well, I don't know. That reminds me. You're welcome. I forgot all about that. So we're actually demoing a, what do you call it, a robotic mower at the field right now.

[00:28:34] That's exciting.

[00:28:35] As we talk right now, it's out cutting grass. So we'll see how well it goes and how quickly it cuts and all that kind of stuff. I don't know much about the brand that they, or that is out there running now.

[00:28:49] So do they let that go unsupervised? Mm-hmm. Really?

[00:28:54] Okay. Everything's really wet right now. Is it going to clump up? So I don't know.

[00:28:59] So I will preface this by saying I've not dealt with any of these mowers before, but I have done a lot of research because we ordered one. So like for our house here, the one we got is actually the same one that they are giving away through the AMA. I don't know if you saw that little promotion thing they're doing.

[00:29:20] Oh, okay. Yeah.

[00:29:22] The LIMO one.

[00:29:23] I mean, I didn't read really all of that, but. Yeah.

[00:29:25] So apparently the AMA was given one to use at the field. Like, I guess they just were donated from the company. I don't know the whole thing, how that all went. And I guess they got a second one to give away. So that's what their little sweepstakes thing is now.

[00:29:42] But let me tell you, after doing research and looking into all the ones that are out there, this seems to be, seems to be, because I don't have it yet, so I can't say, but this seems to be set up the best and like has all the pros and none of the cons that I've seen with other ones. So we'll see how it goes.

[00:29:59] Okay.

[00:30:00] Long story short, the one when we bought it was like two grand, which seems to be nothing for one of those that will do, because we're on three and a half ish, four acres here, something like that. And this will be able to do everything. So I won't have to touch anything at all, which will be nice. It's supposed to do up to like almost an acre and three quarters a day. And it pretty much will just constantly go charge, cut, charge, cut, charge, cut, all hands free.

[00:30:28] All, I don't do anything. And that's the same thing that's going on there. But like I said, the one that we have there now, different brand. Don't remember what it's called. A lot of them. Okay. So the one we ordered for here actually has mower blades. They're small, but there's two eight inch blades on it. So they spin at 6,000 RPM. Almost all the other ones that I have seen.

[00:30:51] Wait, wait a minute. Two eight inch blades. So it's a 16 inch cut.

[00:30:55] Yeah. That's going to take a while.

[00:30:57] But I mean, if it's doing its own thing and it cuts every day. Yeah. It eventually gets done.

[00:31:02] I thought the same thing, Dave, like this is going to take forever to cut, but I don't care because I'm not doing it. Like it literally, like we have one of the, or a couple of the vacuum cleaners for inside the house, the robotic ones.

[00:31:16] Yeah. I found it stuck over here in my chair.

[00:31:19] Yeah. It doesn't work as well downstairs upstairs. It's amazing how well, I mean, it does the whole house every day. I don't care that it takes 45 minutes for it to do it because you're not here and I'm not doing it. Right. So if it takes, if it takes two days to cut our grass, so what? That's how I look at it.

[00:31:36] Oh, I get that.

[00:31:37] But anyway, so yes, that one, like I said, the one we ordered has two eight inch blades. The other ones that I've seen, I don't know how well they will work. Like they have, it's like a bigger disc that spins and then it's just razor blades that are inch long or something that are on the outside of that disc. And there's usually like five or six of the actual razor blades as opposed to like, the two that you get with a bar type mower. Yeah.

[00:32:05] I wonder how those handle stuff like gravel or branches.

[00:32:09] I know.

[00:32:10] I don't know. Whatever might fall in the yard from a tree or, what I'm saying? Yeah. Walnuts or whatever. We'll see.

[00:32:16] Yeah.

[00:32:16] I mean, like I said, that one out there, I will, I'll be interested to see how well it works. It's very pricey compared to the one we ordered. So I think we would have to have two of them and they're like 13 grand a piece.

[00:32:29] You'd have to have two of them. You mean at Eli?

[00:32:30] At Eli.

[00:32:31] Yeah.

[00:32:32] For here, we can do it with one for two grand. See, I wish like if we had ours already, I would absolutely take it for a week to Eli and just say, here, let's see how this one works. It's a heck of a lot cheaper. Maybe we can order a couple of these instead, but we'll see. I mean, that seems to be the smart thing to do because I'm going to be honest. When we went over there to do the yard work, they had over half of it cut already.

[00:32:57] Like before I got there, they had spent time and cut the night before and I was still on the mower for four hours.

[00:33:03] It does take a while.

[00:33:04] Yeah. It's about, I think it's about 10 acres that gets cut. So.

[00:33:09] And those aren't small mowers either. Cause I've, you and I have mowed together once before and even with the two of us, it's, it takes quite a bit of time.

[00:33:19] Yeah. It's a day task. Yeah. Unfortunately. And at this point you need to do it like every two or three days. Cause we've had rain. It's growing. Yeah. That's pretty sad. Yeah.

[00:33:30] Rain and then sun. Rain and then sun. Rain and then sun. Yeah. Grass just takes off.

[00:33:35] Yeah. But like I said, we went over there, did some yard work, did a little bit of field cleanup and stuff. Probably do that again this weekend. Because like I said, we had the glider tow event last week. We went over there Saturday. Friday, Crystal Piper and I again for a little while to kind of see what was going on. Man, those are, I mean like when you're not around them, you kind of forget, you get busy with other things.

[00:33:58] But when you actually are around and watching them doing the towing and the gliding and I mean, like it's, I really want to get mine done. Like I said, that will probably change in a month.

[34:09] UNKNOWN: Right.

[00:34:10] As I see other things.

[00:34:11] The farther away you get from that.

[00:34:12] Because we have the jet event coming up. So that'll get me more into jets and all that kind of stuff. But, I really, I don't, I probably shouldn't say this out loud because it's going to come back to bite me. But my goal at this point that I never hit goal. Yeah. There's no pen. So there you go. Oh, there's a pen. I would like to have it done next year for the glider tow event. Oh, the glider?

[00:34:34] Yeah. Oh. That might be doable. It should be doable.

[00:34:37] Because next year is the 25th anniversary that they've been doing it there.

[00:34:41] Yeah. You definitely got to.

[00:34:42] So I think that would be kind of cool to actually have the ability to fly.

[00:34:47] Maybe you'll have the big telemaster flown by then too.

[00:34:50] Stop it.

[00:34:51] It's ready to go.

[00:34:53] It is ready to go.

[00:34:53] That's why it's stopping. I don't know why you haven't flown it yet.

[00:34:56] Honestly, because when I put gas in it, it's not coming back in the basement. So I got to find a place to store it out in the garage.

[00:35:03] Because I don't want to. Storage is the reason he's not flying it.

[00:35:04] Pretty much. It makes sense in my head. That's all that matters.

[00:35:09] Okay. I'm not going to question.

[00:35:13] It's too. So you can't store it flat. Because it's huge.

[00:35:18] It's big.

[00:35:18] Right now it's stored in the corner. With other airplanes stacked around it. In the corner that are big. That have to be stacked, floor to ceiling. And so I'm afraid gas will leak out. If I have it in here. I get that.

[00:35:32] Put the tank on quick disconnects and leave the tank out in the garage.

[00:35:35] You and your solutions. Actually, you can't get to the tank all that easily in that one. Oh, there we go. We got another.

[00:35:42] Plug the lines.

[00:35:43] Yeah, maybe.

[00:35:45] I mean, well, okay. So one line will be plugged by the carburetor. Gas is not going to leak past the diaphragm. And then you just put a, in the vent line, you just put one of those Dubro. Fuel line stoppers. Fuel line stoppers in it.

[00:35:58] We're a bolt. Problem solved.

[00:36:00] Fine. Okay.

[00:36:01] We'll take it out and fly it sometime. Soon.

[00:36:03] This weekend. Okay.

[00:36:07] It scares me.

[00:36:07] But okay.

[00:36:08] I don't know why. Like, I'm going to have to go through and make sure everything is buttoned up and finished.

[00:36:12] I mean, we're up to, but I don't think the engine has even been ran yet. Slacker. That's me. Yeah. So anyway. Cool. So yeah, you did the Father's Day thing and you did the pizza train.

[00:36:27] Yeah. That was the same day. That was fun. So that's one thing that I think is so cool about that area over there. Eli Field shares pretty much a driveway with the Monticello Railroad Museum. Yeah.

[00:36:39] Neat place.

[00:36:40] It really is. They do train excursions, train rides. They have an actual steam engine from, I don't know when, but way back when. Yeah. Old. And they run that once or twice, maybe once a month or something like that. So it's cool when you're actually over at Eli Flying, just behind you to hear and then see a steam engine drive by and all that stuff. It's a neat place. Yep.

[00:37:00] So we did the, they do a pizza train a couple of times this summer where you pretty much just have a hour and a half train ride and you get pizza from Domino's, your own personal pizza and a drink and dessert. Yeah. Piper enjoys doing that.

[00:37:14] We wrote a, what do they pull it with? The E7? A train engine. Oh, okay. Engine.

[00:37:19] A locomotive of some sort.

[00:37:20] Yeah. Not the steam one. No, no, not the steam one. I think it's an, I think I've seen it.

[00:37:23] It's an old diesel.

[00:37:24] With the, the old E7.

[00:37:26] Either an E unit or an F unit. I can't.

[00:37:28] Yeah. Yeah. I was thinking E or F. Maybe a G. I don't know.

[00:37:31] 220, 221, whatever it takes.

[00:37:34] Obviously, I don't know. Anyone?

[37:35] UNKNOWN: 221. I don't know.

[00:37:36] No?

[00:37:37] Yeah. I remember.

[00:37:39] Movie reference. No. Gosh. Probably before my time. Probably black and white. But anyway, so. Black and white.

[00:37:45] What movie are you talking about?

[00:37:46] Mr. Mom? I think it was.

[00:37:49] It was Mr. Mom. Yeah. I think it was Mr. Mom. Yeah. Okay. He's never seen it.

[00:37:54] No. No. So anyway, it was fun. One of the cars they have on there is actually an open car that you, they have benches and stuff on that you can sit and that's where we sat and had a good time.

[00:38:08] Cool. Yeah.

[00:38:09] Watching the corn go by.

[00:38:10] Mm-hmm. Yeah, pretty much. But I mean, I get it. Like I've ridden on the Amtrak quite a few times, going up to Chicago for games and whatever. There's something kind of fun about riding on a train,? Yeah. Especially like an old one like this. Yeah. At the museum. I think that'd be kind of fun.

[00:38:27] I didn't realize. Crystal took the train up to Chicago for one of her dental things.

[00:38:32] They go pretty quick now. Yeah. 80 plus. 100. Oh, is it up to 100 now?

[00:38:36] It's up to 100 now. Because last time we went on it, it was 80. And then this time, like I was talking to her on a phone or something. And she, whatever it was, it feels like she's going pretty quick. So I got on real quick. Bring on Google Maps. Yeah. That's what it was. Yeah. And exactly. It was showing like 100, 101. Yeah. It's like, man, that's moving.

[00:38:55] It's been a few years since Lori and I have been on it. So, yeah.

[00:38:59] It's way faster than the last time I took the train to Chicago. Yeah. Six hours to Chicago. Oh, no. It's like three.

[00:39:04] Yeah, but you had to watch out for the cowboys to come and rob it, too.

[00:39:09] Wow. It was even longer coming back. We hit a deer. We had to park for an hour while they went through the entire train.

[00:39:14] Oh, boy.

[00:39:15] Wow. Yeah. So, yeah.

[00:39:16] I mean, you still have to, there still are, once in a while you have to go off on a siding and wait for a freight train to go by. Right. But, yeah, you can get to Chicago now, like, in four hours on the train.

[39:27] UNKNOWN: Yeah.

[00:39:27] It was.

[00:39:28] I think it was less than that. Is it less? Three and a half. Well, it depends on, like, I guess, the traffic on the train. Yeah.

[00:39:32] I was watching traffic on the highway to zip past us.

[00:39:36] Well, I'm going to be honest. I was really surprised, too. Way off topic. But so it gives you the arrival times, on the tickets and stuff. And it's like 5.52 or something weird like that. And so we were going to pick her up. And we were running later than I wanted to. But we were there at, like, 4.45. So we should have had time. She was already there. And the train was completely unloaded. Like, they were there early, early.

[00:40:01] And they just had to wait until the time they were supposed to leave. I was surprised. Way off topic.

[00:40:06] Speaking of way off topic.

[00:40:07] Yes. Even farther off topic, because you said movies. Did you see they're coming out with Spaceballs 2? I did see that. Did you see who's in it? Yes. Rick Moranis. I know.

[00:40:17] I know. Coming out of retirement. Him and Mel Brooks both.

[00:40:20] Yeah.

[00:40:21] What is Mel Brooks? He's like 80s. How old is that man? He's 100? Is he 100?

[00:40:25] I thought he was 96. Maybe it was 99. Because I think they say when it comes out, he's going to be 101. And I think that's 2027. Okay.

[00:40:32] Man. Yeah, I'm excited. That's going to be awesome.

[00:40:35] I hope they don't ruin it. Ruin the franchise? Did you see History of the World, the remake? No, I've only seen the first one. Don't. Oh, really?

[00:40:46] Because it sucks.

[00:40:47] Oh, it doesn't?

[00:40:47] And it's the same guy doing this that did History of the World. Well, I mean, you probably didn't write the script, right?

[00:40:54] Or the whatever. I thought so. Oh, well, okay.

[00:40:57] We'll see. We'll see. But at least there's good names in this one. Spaceballs 2. This is going to be awesome.

[41:03] UNKNOWN: Yeah.

[00:41:04] Sorry.

[00:41:05] Fun movie.

[00:41:05] Way off topic. Yeah. So anyway.

[00:41:07] All right. So this show is about nothing.

[00:41:10] Well, so much for the Dave.

[00:41:11] So Dave hasn't been talking. Seinfeld episode is a show about nothing.

[00:41:16] What's the Seinfeld? Yeah. I don't know.

[00:41:18] I don't remember what the time.

[00:41:20] Yeah. Okay. So we have new planes we can talk about. Is that anything else we have to talk about other than we covered movies? We covered trains. Sad. We covered other things from the RC Plane Lab podcast.

[00:41:33] We covered the weather.

[00:41:34] Weather. Yeah. Tornadoes. We talked about tornadoes. Dave saw a bunch of corn blown over from the tornadoes today when he came out, which somehow I didn't even pay attention.

[00:41:42] Oh, yeah. That field was flattened.

[00:41:44] That's a shame because it's just starting, corn season.

[00:41:48] It's up to like my knees or his knee.

[00:41:53] And we're back.

[00:41:55] That's right. We talked about Dave's missing appendage. I think we have we covered everything like. I think that's.

[00:42:02] I think that's. Well, except for the new airplanes. We're getting ready to talk about those. I will go first. OK. And then you can go next. And then Dave. And then Dave can go last. And we'll be good.

[00:42:13] So the one that came out that we have not talked about yet, which surprises me, but I think it was all just timing. One that I'm actually kind of excited about because it's a cool looking little airplane. I've seen this fly. It's fast. And I kind of want one, but I don't know if I'll get one.

[00:42:32] Meh.

[00:42:33] Really? Yeah.

[00:42:34] I'm really meh about this one.

[00:42:36] Yeah, when I first saw it, it's like, man, that looks exciting. And but there's something off about it. I can't put my finger on.

[00:42:43] Maybe if you did put your finger on, it wouldn't be off.

[00:42:45] Good possibility, because I'd squish it.

[00:42:47] That's not what I meant. Like, I'm shaking.

[00:42:50] Oh, I like this.

[00:42:50] I'm shaking my head.

[00:42:51] So there's something not quite right in my eyeball.

[00:42:54] So the E-Flight B2 twin 30 millimeter EDF. It's a cool looking airplane.

[00:43:02] It is.

[00:43:04] I mean, that's about all.

[00:43:05] Really wish it didn't even then.

[00:43:07] But good question. What's the link for? $229. Now you're asking me questions that I wasn't prepared for. Sorry. Please hold. Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do. It's wider than the guy holding it.

[00:43:20] So that's a good measurement.

[00:43:23] So he's a little bit bigger. Yeah, it's probably 21-ish inches. That's more than that, I'm going to say.

[00:43:31] It's going to be on one of the sheets you got there.

[00:43:32] I know. I've got a whole. Why did I print him twice?

[00:43:35] I don't know. Your printer has done weird things.

[00:43:40] Wow. This is silly. Okay, so standard UMX size. No, it's bigger than UMX. Because it's not UMX. It's micro.

[00:43:49] Is this thing on there? No.

[00:43:54] It's so much for show prep.

[00:43:56] Yeah.

[00:43:56] Yeah, Rob. Well, all right. Ready for the questions. Let's go here and look. Well, people want to know. No, you're absolutely right. Like, I don't even know.

[00:44:05] I mean, Sean, there's a picture of Sean holding it. And it's definitely wider than Sean.

[00:44:12] It's at an angle, even.

[00:44:13] And it's at an angle.

[00:44:15] 22. Yes, at 22.

[00:44:17] 22?

[00:44:18] That's just pure speculation.

[00:44:20] Yeah. Yes, you speculated incorrectly.

[00:44:23] 33.6-inch wingspan.

[00:44:25] Really? Yeah.

[00:44:26] All right, so he's a bigger guy than I thought. Well, he's pulling it at an angle.

[00:44:32] But yeah, so no, like I said, it's a decent-sized airplane. I saw him flying it at the field. And like I said, it looks the part. Like, it looks cool. I've always liked the shape of that airplane. I think that's one thing, too, that kind of got me. And when I first saw it, I was. Yeah.

[00:44:49] Yeah, they did get the color and the markings.

[44:51] UNKNOWN: Yeah.

[00:44:51] Yeah. When I first saw it, like I said, I was excited for that one. And it was pretty cool. Meh.

[00:44:57] No, I mean, it's each their own. It's not for everybody. No.

[00:44:59] That's one that I'm afraid, kind of like the SR-71. I like that one a lot, too, but I don't think I would fly it very much. And so why spend that much money on one that you probably wouldn't fly too often?

[00:45:11] Maybe I'm wrong.

[00:45:11] I mean.

[00:45:12] I would love to see a B-1 in this size.

[00:45:14] A B-1 and a UMX or UMX Plus size.

[00:45:17] With wings and sweep.

[00:45:18] Yes.

[00:45:19] Kind of like the F-14 size that they did.

[00:45:21] Smaller.

[00:45:22] That's not that big. I would like it to be a little smaller, but yeah.

[00:45:26] Close. Yeah. Not much smaller.

[00:45:29] But I like the B-1. I'm old school, I guess. B-1. With the canards. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, with the cat whiskers.

[00:45:37] Okay. Well, so this runs on a 3S850. So I do have the batteries already anyway.

[00:45:44] You do.

[00:45:45] That's the same batteries that the Erratix flew on and the same batteries that the UMX A10 flies on. I don't know. We'll see.

[00:45:54] Sell the A10.

[00:45:54] Maybe you don't have the A10 anymore, do you? I do. But do you still have it? Yeah. You don't hardly ever fly it. That's my point. Okay. That's kind of the point I was making. -huh. But it's a good looking airplane. Like I said, it seems like it flies pretty good. I'm. We'll see.

[00:46:10] I've seen it fly with and without the fin. It definitely flies better with the fin. Yeah.

[00:46:16] There's a fin?

[00:46:17] Yeah. A clear fin. A clear plastic fin. For stability. Yeah, and it looks weird.

[00:46:23] Let's put it this way. When it's flying at the field with the fin on, you're not going to see it when it's 20, 30, 40, 50, 100 feet away.

[00:46:30] So does the fin hang on the bottom or the top?

[00:46:33] On the top. Like a shark fin.

[00:46:35] Yeah. Okay. For stability.

[00:46:37] Thank you. Understandable. Without it, it looks like it kind of sinks in the turns.

[00:46:40] So does it use, obviously I'm looking at it, it does not use like drag rudders? No. For stability. Okay.

[00:46:46] But the.

[00:46:47] Like the real one.

[00:46:48] The little flappy. They've got some weird mixing going on with the aileron and the flap situation.

[00:46:55] There you go. Well, I am looking forward to you getting one and me not.

[00:46:59] I doubt it.

[00:47:00] Getting one.

[00:47:01] I'm looking forward to the final one.

[00:47:01] Well, you're going to have to because you have batteries for it.

[00:47:04] I mean, that is one of my prerequisites.

[00:47:06] Yeah. At this point. So also new from E-Flight, which is like, I'm going to start this by saying it's odd timing. The timing of this one coming out because it's, it's very similar looking. No. To the new Avios. Avios? Avios. Avios. I don't know. Avios offering. So E-Flight has, has come out with a 1.4 meter, twin otter. Really, really, I think they got the shape correct. Yeah. It looks way better in my opinion than the.

[00:47:41] Avios.

[00:47:42] Avios. Avios version. but this one comes with all the E-Flight niceties, safe and, it's

[00:47:50] All that. It doesn't have the optional nose.

[00:47:51] Nope. Just, just one nose, but it's, it's the correct nose. It's the long nose. what I'm saying? All right. Yeah. Absolutely. Anyway, it's a good size. It's, it's big, but not huge. It's a good size for small cars, like.

[00:48:07] The Mustang.

[00:48:08] Mustang. Because it breaks down, like, like most E-Flight planes do. So.

[00:48:13] It looks good. It really does. But I would love to see either them or Avios do it in the Canadian, the yellow.

[00:48:21] The yellow red. Search and rescue. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:48:23] Well, perhaps that's something you would do on yours.

[00:48:26] Well, but I mean. Perhaps. Someday. Sure. but it's a good looking plane. I haven't seen any photos of it on floats. Looks good on floats. Does it look, does it look as good on floats as it does on the, okay, good..

[00:48:41] It uses the timber floats.

[00:48:43] Yeah. Like I said, 1.4 meter. So it's a good size. 399.

[00:48:48] So what, what battery does that take? Oh, that's a good question.

[00:48:51] 3 to 4S compatible.

[00:48:55] Okay. Yeah. So I think I was thinking I already have batteries for that one.

[00:48:58] So the thing that. This is the one that takes the. Oh, go ahead.

[00:48:59] I was going to say the thing I like about this one.

[00:49:01] 3,200.

[00:49:02] Yeah. I've got 3S and 4S 2,200s and I think a 3,200 also. Mm-hmm. but the thing that I like about this one is, so the first float plane I ever bought for Joe Nall was the original twin otter. And I'm going to be honest, it's had its flights. It's seen its better days. It's,.

[00:49:21] It still flies great.

[00:49:22] It does. The thing I really like about that one, though, the old version, it's a great size. It stores in the box with the floats and everything you need is just in one box. So when you load up the trailer to go float fly at Joe Nall, you just throw the box in. This will not have that. The new one won't be able to store in the box.

[00:49:43] That bothers me less than it bothers you, but I understand your concern.

[00:49:46] So the only reason it bothers me is because I don't think I've ever flown mine off of gear. Mm-hmm. Have I? I don't think so. Oh, okay. You were saying yes, like I have. No, I mean, I agree. I don't think you've flown it off the gear. So I'm pretty sure, I mean, I know the only time I've flown it has been Joe Nall. That, actually, how do those, how do those wings go on? That kind of looks like it bolts like two separate wings. I bet that's a two-piece wing then.

[00:50:10] I think it's got two pants.

[00:50:11] Oh, it's got to be two-piece. That would be handy then.

[00:50:14] Yeah, I mean, so we'll see.

[00:50:16] We'll have to get our eyes on it a little bit better to see kind of like what, like the connections look like and all that kind of stuff. That's one thing I've liked about some of their newer planes is they're doing like quick connects. Yes. Tool-less assembly and all that kind of stuff, which is very handy. Yeah, I like that as well.

[00:50:32] So. But for me, it's more of a, that's more of a convenience than a necessity. The tool-less assembly, I'm saying, like I appreciate it, but it's not like I'm not going to not buy. Yeah. For example, if this is not tool-less, I'm not going to not buy that because of that.

[00:50:47] Right.

[00:50:47] Does that make sense?

[00:50:47] Yeah, I understand.

[00:50:48] I will probably end up buying one of these.

[00:50:50] Oh, nice. Yeah.

[00:50:51] Then maybe we both will have one next year for the floats. For Joe Nol.

[00:50:55] Because I really like the way yours flies. I bet this one flies even better. Because it's bigger. Mm-hmm. So. And what's kind of cool on this too, I don't know if you noticed, even though, yes, the windows are stickers, there actually are windshield wipers that they have added to it. They've done a lot of extra scale details. Yeah.

[00:51:12] Yeah, it looks, it looks really, really good. And like I said, I will eventually buy one of these.

[00:51:19] Mark your calendars. Not calendars. Mark your, remind him, I guess is my point. Well, I mean, I'm not going to like. Do it now. Do it now.

[00:51:26] But like I said, eventually.

[00:51:28] Yeah. I'm sure we'll see some at a hobby shop or somewhere where we can't refuse. And it has the lights and stuff that they're doing all those.

[00:51:34] It'll be, it'll be an awesome plane on floats at like dusk. It will be.

[00:51:40] Yeah.

[00:51:40] It'll be a, it'll make for great pictures. what I'm saying? Yep. And it'll fly good. Hopefully it does the cool forward flip thing with the floats on it like yours does.

[51:48] UNKNOWN: Shut up.

[00:51:50] One time. One time. Just in flight or on the. One time.

[00:51:53] On the water. On the water. One time. But it did not require a trip in the boat of shame. So you're good. We talked about that, didn't we? We did.

[00:52:00] Yeah, I was going to say. I thought so.

[00:52:01] All right. That's all I got. What do you got, Dave?

[00:52:03] I got another float plane. Hold on.

[00:52:04] I was going to say. Oh, wait. Sorry. I didn't mean to finish or didn't mean to cut you off. But this has the, the twin otter has the separate control of the motors now. So they have thrust, not vectoring, what do you call it? Oh, differential thrust. Differential thrust.

[00:52:17] I did not know that.

[00:52:18] And reversing.

[00:52:19] I wanted even more now. Right. Which mine didn't have either of those. Man, that'll make for some fun, like flat spins.

[00:52:25] Which that would actually make it easier on the, because I don't even know if you'd have to.

[00:52:29] Look at the size of the elevator. Yeah.

[00:52:31] I don't even know if you would have to have, like, water rudders in that case. No, you don't. If you've got differential thrust, you don't need water rudder.

[00:52:37] If you've got differential thrust, you probably don't need a water rudder.

[00:52:40] So that's going to be so much easier than what I have. I never liked the way the water rudder was set up on the smaller one, on the one I have.

[52:49] UNKNOWN: Yeah.

[00:52:49] Anyway. I'm not a fan of the way the water rudders are, water rudders are set up on the, on my turbo timber either. With the fishing line and.

[00:52:58] Oh, that's terrible. I'm going to be honest. That, that absolutely sucks.

[00:53:01] My UNX one on just differential thrust handles just great on the water with no water rudder.

[00:53:06] Yeah. Like, sweet. Honestly, you're, like, that's got to be one of the worst setups I've ever seen with all the fishing wire and all that stuff, trying to figure that out. So much so that your kingfisher that has the big thing that just sticks down from the tail that's like eight inches. Looks better. Looks better. Like, I would prefer that. Yeah. Over the. I mean, they work great.

[00:53:27] Well, yeah, but the hassle is setting it up. Yeah, they are kind of up.

[00:53:30] And you have to re-time every time, right? Every time.

[00:53:32] Yeah. Well, yeah. Yeah. No. No. No, because one end of the rod goes into easy connects up at the rudder. So you just disconnect them there and you leave them tied. So why do you have to tie it then? Well, you have to tie them the first time. Is that the first time you had that on?

[00:53:47] Oh, okay. Yeah, because that was. I forgot it was a different one last year. I gotcha. My bad. Nope.

[00:53:53] All right, Dave.

[00:53:54] Sorry.

[00:53:54] All right. So I've got another float plane. Yes. This one's very classic. It is a classic. Beautiful looking airplane. It is the Avios. Avios. We're going to figure out how to pronounce it these days.

[00:54:06] Yeah.

[00:54:07] U.S. Coast Guard PBY Catalina with LED lights and retractable wingtip floats. Interesting. Nice. And I'm getting there. Beautiful airplane. Well done. They did the 5A version, which has got the retractable landing gear simulated.

[00:54:30] Simulated, yeah.

[00:54:30] Built into the side of the aircraft. I think it looks good with the wheels tucked into the side of it.

[00:54:34] Yeah. Yep.

[00:54:36] Just really nice. It's a post-war scheme, U.S. Coast Guard. Very nice looking. It's sharp. Yeah.

[00:54:43] It's really sharp.

[00:54:44] Battery? Battery? Yes. Yes, it takes a battery. Exactly. It actually has a large watertight battery bay that will accept a, let's see here. What is it? I just had it a second ago and it's gone.

[00:54:59] I bet it's not just me. 6S, you think? How big is that?

[00:55:03] It is a big airplane. It is 75 inches or 1,900 millimeters. Oh, that is a good size. Big airplane.

[00:55:10] I'm going to say 4S. No way. With two motors?

[00:55:14] Serious? I will see. There it is.

[00:55:16] And retractable wingtip.

[00:55:17] All right. You said what?

[00:55:19] I was going to say 4S. He says 4S.

[00:55:20] I'm going to say, if I have to guess, 4S 4,000.

[00:55:24] I'm going to say 6S 4,200.

[00:55:27] You're nowhere close. You're dead on the money. Oh, really? It is 4S 3,200 to 4,500.

[00:55:33] Really? For a 75 inch? Oh, wrong one. Forget it. That's for you.

[00:55:38] I thought that was applause.

[00:55:39] Oh. So, yes.

[00:55:41] You need to label those. I do.

[00:55:42] Ron was right for a change. Is that actually, what, 4,000? That sounds like what it says.

[00:55:46] It is 3,200 to 4,500. So, 4,000. I'm in there. That's fine. Right in the ballpark.

[00:55:52] That's awesome. I figured an airplane that size would be a 6S. Yeah, especially being a twin.

[00:55:59] I figured, at least, right, two batteries, but no. A single 4S.

[00:56:05] But think about it. The twin otter will run on 3S, too. 3S also. And that's a little bit smaller. I get it. But I think that's kind of what gave me the 4S.

[00:56:17] It's all up weight. It's only 6.8 pounds. Oh, that's not bad. And have you seen the size of a wing on a PBY? Yeah. So, this thing could be flying on a wing. Yeah.

[00:56:27] You mean it'll fly authentically? Geez. Weird for a scale airplane. Who likes that, though? All right.

[00:56:35] It does not have retractable gear. It does not have landing gear. Right. No gear at all. No. It's just got retractable wingtip floats. However, I've seen this flying off of even dry grass, and it lifts right off of dry grass on its belly. It's got a plastic belly pan on it, so you don't get it all banged up.

[00:56:50] Oh, that's nice.

[00:56:51] Yeah. That is cool. They were thinking about that. I imagine wet grass, it would just be popping right off the ground. Yeah, no kidding.

[00:56:57] Man, what a pretty airplane, too.

[00:56:59] It actually has an optional operating turret, so the nose turret can be set up to function.

[00:57:05] That's cool. That is neat.

[00:57:07] And not that you would need it. It also comes with an optional-use water rudder.

[00:57:14] Can you set it up with differential thrust?

[00:57:16] With differential thrust, you don't need it.

[00:57:19] Okay, so it can be set up. And it does have differential. Well, that's awesome. Nice. What a good-looking airplane.

[00:57:24] And the pricing is not that bad on it. It is $4.49, I think I saw.

[00:57:30] $4.49. Yeah.

[00:57:30] Yeah.

[00:57:32] Plus receiver. Plus a receiver.

[00:57:33] Plus a receiver, which is… And then those are two additional items. You would need a 9-gram servo for each of those if you wanted to.

[00:57:40] For the turret and for the water rudder. Oh, gotcha.

[00:57:43] Water rudder. I see if you were operating in a tight area and needed more control, maybe. The operating turret, eh, I think it'd pass.

[00:57:50] Yeah, I don't think that's necessary.

[00:57:52] It's got the nice big blisters on the side. I mean, everything about this looks really nice.

[00:57:57] And it's the correct shape. It's the correct shape. Like, the outline of the airplane looks correct. It's not like that weird…

[00:58:04] It's not like they had to scale it to make it fly better or something like that. not scale it, but had to bump the measurements up and stuff.

[00:58:13] This would be a beautiful evening flyer. Oh, yeah. With the lights on.

[00:58:18] For sure. And just cruising around. So, what I'm hearing is that might be a good airplane for him for Joe Nall next year.

[00:58:24] Yeah.

[00:58:25] That's a possibility. There you go.

[00:58:26] He didn't say no. I know. We're making baby steps. He didn't just come out and say no.

[00:58:31] So, that's good. Yep. I just can't justify spending money right now, but… Yeah, but that's not right now. That's almost a year from now. Yeah, you got time. And these will be around for a while.

[00:58:40] And there's swap meets between now and then.

[00:58:43] Actually, are those available now? No.

[00:58:45] Last night I checked, they were up for pre-order. I don't remember the date. I believe the website said pre-order. Usually, their stuff comes out pretty quickly after it's up for pre-order. So, I'm not sure what we're looking at.

[00:58:59] Those two… ETA, 15th of June. I know.

[00:59:01] That's what I was thinking. It says 15th of June is ETA. Oh, nice.

[00:59:05] That's a couple days ago. Three days ago. Yeah. Nice. Cool. Sweet. New float planes.

[00:59:13] And it can be used on the ground.

[00:59:14] Yeah. Well, both of them.

[00:59:16] Oh, this thing on snow? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.

[00:59:20] Snow way. Snow cool. Snawesome. Snop it.

[00:59:27] Sorry. You're so dumb. I was stretching. Snatching. Snatching. Wow.

[00:59:37] All right. That's all I got. Yeah. Thank goodness. Same here. Dave, anything else?

[00:59:42] Nope. That's pretty much all I've got.

[00:59:43] Okay. Hopefully, the next episode, we'll talk about how we flew and had a great time this weekend.

[00:59:51] Or next weekend. We still have.

[00:59:53] Or both. We have two. Or both. Maybe we've got two weekends worth of flying. I hope that's what happens. Me too. Maybe, we'll have more airplane stuff to talk about.

[01:00:03] Anyway. Till then. Thank you for listening.

[01:00:06] I'm Ron. I'm Tom. And I'm Dave.

[1:00:09] UNKNOWN: Goodbye.

[01:00:10] Good night.
