[unknown speaker 00:00:12] hello everybody welcome to the rc plane lab podcast i'm tom i'm ron and i'm dave hey guys
[unknown speaker 00:00:18] and that reminds me talk into the microphone and talk about time okay we have had some did we get another one yes sorry about your talking and then all of a sudden
[unknown speaker 00:00:30] then you turn back and you look there i can hear you again maybe i should get one of those
[unknown speaker 00:00:36] microphones that connects to the headset you know oh there you go maybe then it would always be right in front of my mouth you just duct tape into the mic or you could just duct tape this huge microphone right to my face i think that's what we should do my apologies it is something i'm conscious of but i'm still apparently not very good at staying right in front of the microphone yeah i know well and yeah anyway because of all the editing you do i was gonna say we don't need
[unknown speaker 00:01:06] to get to the behind the scenes too much but i i don't run it through the same scrubbers that i used to so we don't have the volume leveling thing because that's a couple hours i don't want to spend
[unknown speaker 00:01:14] i did not know that okay well i will try to be better tommy be better be i'll try to be better no don't try just do it there is no try right only do
[unknown speaker 00:01:27] anyway that was fun yeah what are we going to talk about well we don't have much as we can tell by the probably be a short episode that's okay as we can tell by what we're talking about so far
[unknown speaker 00:01:37] yeah half a sheet of paper there with some stuff on it that which is not much that's not a lot but
[unknown speaker 00:01:42] anyhoozle we can talk about what's coming up we have a couple actually yeah a couple fly-ins maybe three depending yep coming up we have a new release ish maybe from it's a new release to talk about yeah and then i did some flying dave did some flying tommy hasn't no and that's about it
[unknown speaker 00:02:04] yeah yeah it's been a really for me it's been a busy couple of weeks it has oh i had a drill weekend in there so i didn't get to fly at all just a hint when i say oh that means shut up i have
[unknown speaker 00:02:16] something to say yeah i'm kidding you can finish your story no that was it i was just saying i had a busy couple weeks yeah i know when you have drill weekends you get kind of cranky i do because you're like i can't do anything that's true i'm like your job sucks no but i got my mower oh that is exciting that is exciting i saw it it's mowing as we speak it's really quiet it's not bad yeah it's got some issues i'm gonna give it a few more tweaks weeks tweaks whatever you want to say weeks that's two weeks tweaks oh is that what it is so it's a tweaker no but anyway flashback should my old job
[unknown speaker 00:02:55] oh that's right dave did drug testing anyway that was pretty cool it's working out well so far a couple things that we needed to kind of figure out but we'll get that done and i'll be happy i think the plan like i said before as long as everything works out and it it performs as necessary we'll be ordering a second one and then we'll be happy would you say it's working as advertised right now not quite but i will also i will also give a little leeway as this is a new
[unknown speaker 00:03:30] company a new product that has not had a lot of testing done yep and i'm absolutely fine with that as long as they continue to stand behind things which they are there's a new software update like every week oh wow so it seems to be doing an okay job it's doing a very good job i mean the property looks nice thank you it just the things that i knew beforehand like the slow charger that came with it they will be sending fast chargers here in the next probably three weeks i think is when they're supposed to be sending them out to get here and that will make all the difference in the world right
[unknown speaker 00:04:02] now it takes about five and a half to six hours to charge which sucks with the fast charger it'll be an hour and a half oh that'll be much better that will make all the difference in the world
[unknown speaker 00:04:12] so is it just cut during daylight hours or is it up all night running you can do it all night if you want but the grass gets too wet so i don't at this point so but yeah it can run around at night if you
[unknown speaker 00:04:21] want it to yeah it has headlights it has yeah it's actually cool and just to play around so it it has like cameras on it so it actually is looking for things like if you walk in front of it it'll stop like a foot away from you and stuff and not run into you and that kind of stuff well that's good and so just playing with it at night the other day it was out mowing when it was completely dark and i turned the headlights off through the app you can control that yeah well it thought it saw something so it just stopped and that like wouldn't go anywhere because it couldn't see
[unknown speaker 00:04:51] couldn't see so i turned the lights back on and i was like oh i'm happy now and i just kept so it
[unknown speaker 00:04:56] has to have the lights on for itself at dark yeah yeah it doesn't do anything it doesn't use an infrared beam it actually uses real light yeah it actually looks through the camera oh be darn
[unknown speaker 00:05:06] that's pretty cool kind of like my car does yeah that's all vision pretty cool yeah well we'll talk about that more as i use it more but so far i'm i'm happy how long did it take to to like program it
[unknown speaker 00:05:18] two years oh to map it out yeah half hour maybe oh really i mean it doesn't take what do
[unknown speaker 00:05:23] you just walk around with the app or something basically pretty much you drive around like an
[unknown speaker 00:05:26] rc car which is kind of neat on the phone it has you know it's a tank drive right so it has tracks right so the what the left finger is forward and backwards and then left right on the right thumb cool drive around like a car and then it knows exactly where to go that's pretty cool
[unknown speaker 00:05:42] nice nice i look forward to seeing it get dialed in me too yeah i mean it looks good now
[unknown speaker 00:05:51] the r does it takes like i said it there is a learning curve based on cut speed travel speed all that kind of stuff but we'll figure it out cool there's a good online community nice so very helpful nice anyway any who's in way what's what's what'd you say any any who's that's it any who's all any who's all so shall we talk about the new airplane that was released new airplane ish
[unknown speaker 00:06:16] new yeah your paint job it's a new release it's a new paint job but it's a re-release then there we go under different colors yeah the cletus mcfarland version of the super cub is it the super
[unknown speaker 00:06:29] what's it yeah the one carbon cup carbon carbon cup 1.3 i think it looks pretty cool i mean it's
[unknown speaker 00:06:33] a pretty close approximation of the one that is so popular on youtube i do like the paint job yeah it'll show up like yellow just really pops in the in the air i think and the dark flag
[unknown speaker 00:06:46] underneath makes a nice visual contrast yeah yeah and it looks cool so i'm sure there's something dave doesn't like dave they got to give up on the gray windows told you we knew it but actually i kind of agree with him it does actually work in this case because it has gray on the back of the
[unknown speaker 00:07:02] fuselage but they need to be black i'm not or darker i'm not gonna lie i actually was killing time before we we sat down to do this before you guys got here and you ordered one oh god no oh no that does nothing really for me but anyway so i was watching the video and it showed him holding it up in front of his actual one yeah and i was like oh dave's gonna hate those windows that was the only thing i could think of when i saw the actual video other than that i love it it looks great i think it
[unknown speaker 00:07:32] looks pretty cool i'm not sure if i will buy one but i'm fairly confident i won't i have a large
[unknown speaker 00:07:39] cub okay so i don't need another cub although cubs are pretty great i've got and he has like 15 of them so in different sizes you say you're saying he's a cub fan well i would say he's a cub fan not a cubs fan but a cub fan well he has more than one so does that make it cubs well he is a
[unknown speaker 00:07:57] fan of cubs cubs i'm getting old so that means i have to buy cubs getting old wow no i was just
[unknown speaker 00:08:06] agreeing getting there yeah so anyway yeah that's really kind of it for the week so i don't know
[unknown speaker 00:08:13] who cletus mcfarland is do you guys he's not a real i'm not a real fan of his but i've seen some of
[unknown speaker 00:08:20] his stuff and it's decent so i've been watching his youtube stuff for quite a few years now he's been gosh it's been over five years now he's been popular on youtube as a car guy they build cars him and his his crew they build automobiles and you know do crazy things with them burnout competitions well he bought a racetrack down in florida a few years back and he's really like put motorsports like kind of mainstream like motorsports always seem to kind
[unknown speaker 00:08:58] of be like a like a i don't want to say a fringe hobby but like a hobby for the people who could just afford it well like these guys have taken like beater cars and like put them on youtube and done stupid things with them burnouts and just it's been a lot of fun to watch but he sort of crossed over so to speak into aviation with model airplanes so like jace dusha he you know has been on the channel and flying stuff and got cletus his real name is garrett mitchell but his stage name for lack
[unknown speaker 00:09:35] of a better term is cletus mcfarland and he's created this whole channel anyway recently like in the last couple years he's gotten into airplanes also model airplanes which then sort of got him into full-size airplanes he i think he started with i'm probably going to get this wrong but i think it was a the carbon cub wasn't his first airplane okay but he has a helicopter that he that he bought and refurbished and painted it's called consuela that's the name of the air the helicopter it's a huge 500 i think but anyway so now he's sort of a he's sort of a jack of all trades when it comes
[unknown speaker 00:10:12] to anything that moves like he's into cars and airplanes helicopters i mean he bought a he bought a jet i think it was a i want to say it was a falcon 20 might have been a falcon 10 that was not airworthy and he got it like really cheap and now it's on like display it's like part of his display at the freedom factory that's the name of the racetrack he bought or he named it after he bought it so anyway he's just a really big youtube personality and yeah made the transition not a
[unknown speaker 00:10:44] really a transition but he added model aviation and full-size aviation to his repertoire okay recently in the last few years so he's he's a very popular youtube figure and also like just recently he's he's gotten into nascar he actually drove the kinetics car and i think it was the i think that's a bush series whatever it's called now i don't know what the bush series is i don't follow nascar left followed by left but yet another one right right and did i guess he crashed out of the first race and he did okay in the second race or maybe i have that backwards but yeah he's just a he's just
[unknown speaker 00:11:18] this big goof i don't want to say he's goofy but he's a kind of goofy guy but he's really he's really kind of affable and it's nice entertainment he's actually kind of fun to watch if you're into that sort of thing so cletus mcfarland that's his youtube channel you can i mean he's gonna find it the guy goes back i think 10 years worth of videos now so and prolific like he produces several videos weekly on the youtube channel not short ones either we're you know so i can't imagine the amount of time he spends or his crew spends on editing and recording and all that kind of stuff well you could probably
[unknown speaker 00:11:52] imagine because you've done some editing not that much well you've done something like when we started you did a lot of editing so you can imagine how much time that takes so full-time job then yep so
[unknown speaker 00:12:02] cool i might have to check him out then because like i said i'm i've heard of him because i mean you hear of him but i've never actually watched a video or have any idea what he's about they're pretty
[unknown speaker 00:12:11] entertaining i like i said i've been watching his channel for quite a while now and i think i'm up to speed i think i've watched the last few but anyway cool he's fun to watch but yeah now the carbon cub and in which is a pretty close approximation of i'd say i guess it's really almost an exact replica of his actual airplane it looked close from what i saw yeah so and that airplane flies well anyway so it's a good combination cool yep and i think it only added what 20 bucks 20 bucks higher than the base so yeah you're you're paying for a little bit of
[unknown speaker 00:12:44] licensing i'm sure excuse me i would think so but prices have gone up also so who knows that's true
[unknown speaker 00:12:51] they have i checked the price on the base that's on the internet right now and there's it's twenty dollars difference so oh okay there you go let's just paint job and licensing name cool well good for him
[unknown speaker 00:13:06] what else as far as new releases that's really kind of all i'm i'm aware of i'm i'm waiting to hopefully one of somebody we know will get one of those scrappies and can kind of tell us how those
[unknown speaker 00:13:20] fly oh dave has show and tell they've brought a show and tell to an audio only podcast podcast so
[unknown speaker 00:13:27] cool dave look at this new release as well yeah you this is all you dave so this is i got a new kit
[unknown speaker 00:13:35] this comes from 13th squadron.com they've got a bunch of flat foam yeah i got about five dollars worth of foam here for 50 bucks but anyway this is a really really nicely laser cut foam board kit puts you in the mind of the flight test stuff but not as angular and chunky looking this is actually really nice looking it's a measurement bf 109e emile nice looking airplane it's all laser cut
[unknown speaker 00:14:06] he even signed it so i'm kind of that's a collector's item collector's item yeah you better not you better
[unknown speaker 00:14:12] order another one i bet you don't want to put this one together it's signed yeah no it's going to get
[unknown speaker 00:14:17] built okay it came with a laser cut motor mount that's kind of a unique situation it snaps in and out so it's easy maintenance you squeeze the tabs and you just slide out your motor pod oh that's cool
[unknown speaker 00:14:28] as long as it doesn't come out while you're flying that's what i'm kind of worried about but this is not real high powered so i think it's i'm sure it's been tested it's it snaps in pretty pretty solid pretty solid what would make you want to take it out though just out of curiosity it's buried inside this nose where you can't get to it so you just snap it and then you can slide it out to solder okay or change motor or whatever you need to do maintenance wise i guess that makes sense
[unknown speaker 00:14:51] because there's probably no cowl on like i'm used to where you can put the cowl on and take it off
[unknown speaker 00:14:55] to get to the motor okay well that makes sense easy access and the lines look really good on this it's not way out of scale done a nice job this is his first kit however he's got several other aircraft on his website that you can go to and download for free and cut your own kits i wonder if
[unknown speaker 00:15:13] you'd be able to find a park flyer plastics canopy actually looking at this with the 109 these are just
[unknown speaker 00:15:19] flat panels so there you go i'm thinking it's pretty easy just to make my own framing and nice and do that although the painted up version they do a video on how to paint it the painted up version actually looks fairly decent as a painted canopy okay but i i definitely was wanting to play with it and see if i could cut it out and yeah do a framed canopy for it yeah i mean it looks
[unknown speaker 00:15:42] well done that's a lot it's a large stack of foam though yeah it's five sheets i think they're supposed
[unknown speaker 00:15:47] to be in there looks like quite a few yeah it's all laser cut it's got stuff printed on it like sheet one and it's got some various different directions and so forth printed on it so cool nice nice stuff yeah and like you said he's got freebies on the online you can download and cut your own so and this is the first of many to come apparently including twins twins cool well you have to let us
[unknown speaker 00:16:10] know next episode how it goes together and how it flies yeah because we know dave knowing dave yeah it'll be
[unknown speaker 00:16:15] finished painted and ready to fly before our next recording painted crashed don't say crap in two
[unknown speaker 00:16:22] weeks give me two episodes okay yeah dave is one of the most prolific builders i know like the guy it's crazy the stuff he gets done i'm envious yeah like even when i finally get to retire i'm not sure
[unknown speaker 00:16:42] i'll be able to keep pace with dave that's what happens when you have no life i was thinking it
[unknown speaker 00:16:46] but i wasn't going to say it well that's a life that is a model airplane life a good life actually
[unknown speaker 00:16:51] like i like i do build way more and i fly i will say that no you should fly more i should i don't well
[unknown speaker 00:16:58] we're going to remedy that no tomorrow yes yes oh do you want to talk about events i'm sorry well i mean if you're going into it have at it that's fine well tomorrow's our event down at budapart i'm really excited about that even though it's going to be sweltering it's going to be really warm i think
[unknown speaker 00:17:16] that's an understatement oven like oven that also i think is an understatement so how would you
[unknown speaker 00:17:23] describe it i mean hot as hell maybe i don't know that's pretty even going i mean i personally don't know how hot that place is but i mean assuming right yeah like if all the descriptions are accurate i'll let you know okay
[unknown speaker 00:17:40] no it's going to be it's going to be yeah would you say it's going to be no no i was going to but i don't want to say because you make fun of me all the time it's going to be pretty w-a-r-m
[unknown speaker 00:17:52] but i even with the heat i'm still pretty excited it's been man it's been years since i've flown there so it wasn't the last time you went there that you crashed right no no no okay this was one of maybe i mean so i was trying to think the other day the last time i flew there i was in college so that would have been at parks from 90 to 93
[unknown speaker 00:18:17] ish oh that's not bad i thought it was a lot older than that no i graduated high school in 89
[unknown speaker 00:18:22] so i mean it wasn't much earlier than 19 back in the late 1900s yeah right that makes it sound
[unknown speaker 00:18:31] yeah please phrase it that way anymore so it would have been like 91 or 92 probably is the last time maybe 93 was the last time i flew there but yeah the dualist crash was probably one of the earlier times i flew there because i flew there you know the entire time i was going to school down there so anyway i'm really excited it's been a long time and it's a really great facility too like why i haven't flown there i don't know because they you know you can buy a one day pass and it's 100 plus miles away but that could have something to do with it yeah but i mean you know but i'm
[unknown speaker 00:19:05] excited i'll get to see where the the crash happened oh that is yeah that is the that's the place that really drove us to build the dualist it is well yeah had you not failed i would not have one
[unknown speaker 00:19:16] here's a funny thing about that is there are parts on the current dualist that were on the dualist when it crashed there so that's you know full circle moment right i hope they're not haunted
[unknown speaker 00:19:29] what's the retracts maybe they're waiting to and the tune pipes so that's really yeah one of the engines i guess so yeah maybe they're waiting to find their grave to die no don't say that it should be fine i flew the dualist a few weeks ago and everything was fine it's fine it's all fine that's yeah possibly go wrong what could yeah what could possibly go wrong well let's start counting oh no we don't actually want to well let's see what let's start with things that i could potentially forget to take that i need for the dualist true so i don't know that's i mean if i take my flight
[unknown speaker 00:20:03] box i have fuel and nice starters and all that i rigged up my my spare 6s lipo with a plug on it so i can power my starter so i've got an electric starter that's convenient now not i don't have to drag a big 12 volt battery so i'll have that in the flight box so i won't forget that pneumatic or mechanical retract they're pneumatic and the pump is sitting on top of the flight box i thought about that so i mean i think that's it have you made a list no charge batteries yet they're like yes i
[unknown speaker 00:20:38] charged them like they were they finished up right before i left to come out here so they should be
[unknown speaker 00:20:42] good there we go ah it'll be all right no matter what it'll be a story so anyway i'm taking the dualist i'm gonna
[unknown speaker 00:20:52] take the stick i'm gonna try to take the telemaster trash can telemaster i'm gonna try to take all the stuff that's like been on the on the podcast so you know if any fans are down there they'll be able to see them in person if they want oh don't don't prepare for that why i'm just joking i'm gonna take the electric streak if i can fit it in the car yeah just should be a good time i don't know if
[unknown speaker 00:21:15] i'm gonna take anything to fly to be honest with you well i've got stuff i know but we'll see yeah
[unknown speaker 00:21:19] i think we are all driving separately so well yeah for one of the rare times laurie's gonna go with me so that'll be that'll be cool otherwise you could have ridden with me but sorry
[unknown speaker 00:21:29] no that's fine or he wanted to go and i didn't want to tell her no no that's perfectly okay i i don't i don't want to be tied down to somebody else's schedule at this point oh i gotcha yeah
[unknown speaker 00:21:39] because if it's going to be that hot i do well under that hot no so we'll see i don't either like
[unknown speaker 00:21:44] as long as there's shade i'll be okay but like if we're out in the sun i don't have a generator and a fan nice nice that'll be cool i haven't got my air conditioner that was exactly what i was thinking i looked right at you i was like well how's the air conditioning coming that'll wait
[unknown speaker 00:22:03] okay oh i did i think did i have it last time did i have the no the electric jack last time okay
[unknown speaker 00:22:11] you did not remind me when we leave i'll show it to you okay i like it but anyway yeah ron so ron's not going to take any airplanes possibly probably you should take something small electric
[unknown speaker 00:22:22] yeah throw umx in there yeah oh no i've got room it's in the car oh i know i've got room i'm not
[unknown speaker 00:22:27] worried about that it's just we'll see okay is it one of those things where you're just not going to feel like it because it's so hot i don't know okay that's that's a probable probable thing that
[unknown speaker 00:22:38] happened yeah dave what are you and daniel taking i know daniel's trying to go bring his robin hood 30 the little robin yeah yeah the small one yeah what else he's bringing i don't know he's got resident airplanes that live in the trailer so i don't know so those will go whatever the big loud stick is it fixed so the two trip stick is fixed but the spring starter popped off so we weren't able to fly it i'll have an electric starter yeah well we just don't want that spring banging
[unknown speaker 00:23:08] around in there loose so anyway it'll be fine i don't know what he's bringing i i know he specifically mentioned that he wanted to bring the robin hood that'll be a good place to fly it yeah i'm bringing the mctwist my anyone which is a navalized cub have you flown that one yet yes it's got two flights nice i think it's got two it might have one but i'm pretty sure it's got two flights that
[unknown speaker 00:23:34] airplane looks so nice i love how that airplane came out it's just a cub so i know but it looks good it looks nice yeah i really need to put a pilot and it's an uncommon scheme i think that's why i
[unknown speaker 00:23:44] like it's not yellow right or green exactly yeah exactly so that looks good we're going to do that the anyone i'm going to bring the e-streak the original yeah i was going to say i could bring one but it would be foam see how fast it can reach the max service ceiling i wonder what they are there i don't know if they've got a waiver for that or not so everybody i think oh god i'm going to talk
[unknown speaker 00:24:11] without knowing i think everybody got 700 feet oh okay but i think depending on where you are because i know eli now is always 1200 feet no matter what oh so they don't have to submit a waiver every time oh nice i know we don't have to worry about that that's wonderful that's really
[unknown speaker 00:24:25] great news actually yes i can see 400 really fast but with that electric plenty yeah yeah well and even 700 would be plenty and then i'm planning on taking a little xb70 cool hopefully it's calm the one
[unknown speaker 00:24:40] you got from terry the one i got from yeah yeah yeah that'll be fun it'll be hot so there's that
[unknown speaker 00:24:45] yeah i'm afraid it's gonna thermal away from me or melt or melt i'd be more worried about that
[unknown speaker 00:24:52] well it's the yeah so i'm going light and easy i get it me too i'm taking the most complicated
[unknown speaker 00:24:59] planes i own you know the dualist with all the air and nitro motors and stuff and oh i was going to try to take the gb also which is this three-cylinder radial powered so i you know that's good so that'll be so that won't be complicated at all let's get all of the complicated yeah yeah why don't you take the jet while you're at it well i don't know if there's enough room to fly the jet there but if it would fit i would take it to display it you know that'd be kind of neat i think not everybody you know has seen jets up close really i mean i guess not but i mean until last year i hadn't seen
[unknown speaker 00:25:37] a jet up close well except for joe null i guess yeah i guess that's true so and i've been in the hobby a long time yes so you know long time but i don't think it'll fit i'm just thinking complicated with all the oh yeah actually those aren't very complicated to be honest no they're really not i
[unknown speaker 00:25:57] mean they not to get on that but that's probably one of my more simple assembly of airplanes to take
[unknown speaker 00:26:03] to the field yeah yeah but anyway yeah it's gonna be gonna be a good time hopefully we'll see some folks that we know there some folks that are on the discord i think there's one or two guys from the saint louis area there maybe we'll see them nice if you guys see us and you're there of course you'll it'll be over by the time no we're gonna put this out tonight right we'll see that's the plan yeah so yeah if if you see us be sure to stop by and say hi yeah i like that
[unknown speaker 00:26:33] dave likes that ron it makes him uncomfortable so definitely do that i'm gonna try to remember bring the stickers so yes i'm gonna remind you guys yeah bring bring stickers because i don't think i have them why not you gave them all away i shall give you some okay because well they're not in the box where i keep the cards you know the business cards so i may have given them all away already which is a good thing sure that's why we got them yes what else is coming up so after that we have the jet meet oh that's gonna be so much fun we can't talk about jets though we can
[unknown speaker 00:27:08] i'm just teasing no so that's that's the weekend after and that will be i think honestly i think i'm gonna be there thursday friday saturday i don't think i'm gonna be able to take wednesday
[unknown speaker 00:27:20] off okay i'm i think i'm gonna try to go friday and saturday okay i think i'm i think crystal might be coming saturday to help are you staying there no okay no no so the trailer's not quite ready for
[unknown speaker 00:27:33] that no there's no air conditioning i'm not although have you looked at the weather it's actually pretty good so tuesday what was it tuesday is supposed to be 90 93 and then wednesday supposed to be 83 really and it starts wednesday nice yeah so finally we catch a break well and then like the high mid to high 80s the rest of the time that's doable that won't be too bad yeah yeah like tomorrow's 184 degrees is going to be a lot more are you going to fly this year there
[unknown speaker 00:28:05] i haven't decided yet if i do i might just a couple times but there seems to always be enough to do around there behind the scenes right kind of make the to make it run smoothly that all i'm happy to do that kind of stuff yeah i have the field all year is kind of how i look at it right and that's kind
[unknown speaker 00:28:22] of where i'm at also dan asked me if i was gonna fly and i was like i don't think so i'm not i mean i'm comfortable flying the airplane yeah but i don't know i think i would rather like you're talking about you know help where i can and and watch mostly yeah and talk to the guys and stuff and cut up so like you said i have the field pretty much any other time so yeah probably won't feel the need to fly although who knows when i get there i'll be like dang i should
[unknown speaker 00:28:53] have brought an airplane tomorrow i will yeah we'll see but no and then after that the weekend after that which is terrible playing on my part we're having the warbird and classics event and that is the same weekend i didn't realize that i'm going camping so i shall get to see friday about half of it that's friday saturday thing that of course this is the first year we're kind of trying to bring that back so it should be a good turnout is that that's not into september right
[unknown speaker 00:29:24] that's the first weekend it goes to the first weekend that labor day weekend yeah so the weekend
[unknown speaker 00:29:30] after that i think is out for me because of work so yeah i should be able to get catch at least one or
[unknown speaker 00:29:37] maybe two days of that well if you're off friday maybe you can come over and meet me there in the morning for a bit yeah i'll have to leave probably about 3 30 or so oh that'd be perfect actually so
[unknown speaker 00:29:46] yeah we'll we'll talk about it okay yeah and then that's i think all the events right i think that's the last big event yeah there may be a fun fly here and there that you know like i think streeter is
[unknown speaker 00:29:57] we have streeter coming up middle oh that's right i know in september yeah on the calendar too so i'd
[unknown speaker 00:30:01] like to do that if that's not on a work weekend yeah i gotta figure out how to get my trailer out
[unknown speaker 00:30:06] there because i have no vehicle to pull it so yeah yeah yeah there's that yeah anyway yeah yeah so
[unknown speaker 00:30:15] that's events cool i think yeah that's all that's the only ones i'm tracking so what else
[unknown speaker 00:30:24] well i went flying they went flying too you want to talk about your flying it's gonna take 30
[unknown speaker 00:30:28] seconds oh that's fine so i went flying last sunday the air was bumpy but i didn't crash anything well that's good and we're all scared to death of the corn so yeah no one leaves the field well
[unknown speaker 00:30:38] especially when it's 98 degrees and then i mean then you get the corn sweat on top of that and the
[unknown speaker 00:30:44] corn is eight feet tall oh my god it's good 10 foot i don't know what variety they planted this
[unknown speaker 00:30:49] year but it's the tall stuff yeah it's huge yeah like it's tall i know it's big i've been in it big in corn yes you have i have not honestly depending on what i crashed in there i would just be like
[unknown speaker 00:31:01] and it's planted closer together than ever well yeah it looks like they drilled it this year like
[unknown speaker 00:31:06] it doesn't seem like the rows are like rows it seems like it's just corn everywhere just threw it
[unknown speaker 00:31:12] yeah let it go it's slow so nobody leaves the field it's fly directly above the runway
[unknown speaker 00:31:19] your turns are vertical instead of horizontal right i lost it right above me shoot well there is no that's corn too i was gonna say you could go behind you but that's corn there weren't behind
[unknown speaker 00:31:31] there is beans off to the far end on the east but that's way that's way down there yeah although
[unknown speaker 00:31:39] that's still hard to find if you crash something in there it is surprisingly hard to find because
[unknown speaker 00:31:43] beans cover everything up yeah yeah they're like haha it's mine now yep so what did you fly well you're gonna ask me that and i can't remember i had the mctwist basically what i'm taking to st louis i had the mctwist and i had the umx turbo timber and there's something else that went with me and i can't remember what it was so memorable that's why i had to write my stuff down because i would forget also it's been recorded
[unknown speaker 00:32:11] in the log but sorry what i just remembered ah what so i don't even know where to start so i was going to update my spreadsheet oh boy and you know how i am with technology and computers stuff right it's a wizardry yeah it's all black magic and voodoo anyway i went to update my spreadsheet so i opened my old ancient laptop and i bring up my excel spreadsheet and i can't it won't let me edit
[unknown speaker 00:32:45] it i'm like what is going on so i look to the top right and there's like apparently you can log in to microsoft you have to have like a microsoft account or something to keep your applications updated like this is an excel program that's been on my laptop since i bought the laptop eight years ago and i've never had to like log in to microsoft to be able to use my now you do now well luckily lori has a microsoft i guess account i think you can get free ones i mean like you don't have to pay
[unknown speaker 00:33:21] for the 360 or anything right i couldn't find a free one if there is a free one oh so luckily lori has an account i think through work so she logged in on my old laptop so that i can update my spreadsheets now but yeah they get you coming and going these days and that's a not a cheap subscription by the way no it's not it's like 139 like that's the cheapest one i could find was like 139 something i think a year that seems like you're doing it wrong right like no seriously like
[unknown speaker 00:33:53] no i agree with you but like i all the stuff i click through and you know they they have the automatic pop-ups oh here would you like to you know subscribe to whatever and i'm old but i'm not so old that i i don't know when i'm getting taken or whatever so i didn't click on some of the links because i know they're probably spam or whatever but like so they called and asked my credit card number and i gave it to no i didn't i know better but like it so i didn't do anything and i asked lori if she had an account so luckily you know like i said she logged in and everything worked again but like i couldn't i couldn't open up excel i couldn't do any powerpoint stuff i couldn't
[unknown speaker 00:34:28] my outlook my microsoft outlook account wouldn't work like it's like just all of a sudden like i updated the spreadsheet after after i did the the gosh waiver flight on the jet i got that updated that night or the night after so sometime between then and the other night it was like i don't know it's just really frustrating i mean so i think i'm just gonna switch to google sheets or google whatever because that's part of my i'm sorry who told you to do that
[unknown speaker 00:34:59] you did when oh it's been a while who you when a while who you okay it's been a while ago but i didn't i don't like google sheets because excel i can it's a little bit more customizable has a few
[unknown speaker 00:35:14] more options yes yeah i get it you use it at work so you know a lot more exactly i know how to excel
[unknown speaker 00:35:20] than i do anyway i think that's probably and that's free with your google storage subscription i think
[unknown speaker 00:35:28] or no that's free with your google gmail address okay well they're like you don't even have to have
[unknown speaker 00:35:32] a subscription for storage and stuff okay well anyway i do who knows because of the pictures and
[unknown speaker 00:35:37] stuff that get uploaded i don't know yeah we do too yeah it's crazy it's at any rate we have too
[unknown speaker 00:35:42] much so i'm thinking about ditching the microsoft stuff and just going to because i i'm not going to buy a microsoft account just so i can update my spreadsheet if you don't mind going really really
[unknown speaker 00:35:55] old school and dave still i got ms dos i'm listening so we'll talk afterwards okay i can set you up with
[unknown speaker 00:36:02] a old one that they don't track ah i'd be all 1984 well okay yeah we'll talk about it by the way
[unknown speaker 00:36:12] fms super cub was the third aircraft oh there we go he remembered there you are alzheimer's just cast
[unknown speaker 00:36:20] we're all there it sucks so what about you ron you said you flew so we yeah we had a meeting last tuesday or the tuesday before whichever doesn't matter because i don't remember and i ended up taking three airplanes with me so i took the fms 8 or the fms f18 the freewing f22 and then piper said she was going to go and then she backed out at the last minute so i did have the aeroscout with me also i had a couple incidents nothing bad nothing has crashed do tell so i hadn't apparently i hadn't
[unknown speaker 00:36:55] flown the aeroscout on my new transmitter even though it's what a year and a half two years old now whatever so i did a quick bind and i think it's older than that the aeroscout no no the transmitter oh okay right so anyway i did a quick bind and stuff and i'm gonna be honest i don't know if i bound it right wrong safe select on off i don't remember i'd have to look all that up before i bind it but apparently i think i did do it with safe or something and the first time like i was i was
[unknown speaker 00:37:28] playing around with it to make sure i was in the mode i wanted after i found what switch it was because of course there's nothing on there that said you know had call outs or anything like that and i'm like it's an aeroscout i'm fine they fly great which they do however so long story short i taxied out and did a couple things and had it on the switch that i thought i wanted to be on took off took off fine climbed out to 30 feet in the air maybe 40 wasn't very high at all and then all of a sudden it just started to like not dive but descend like no matter how much up
[unknown speaker 00:38:02] elevator i gave it it would not start to climb so i was like you son of a gun so is that what you said well in more colorful language to myself yeah we all know i've been what your mouth is
[unknown speaker 00:38:16] but anyway so i just kind of went off to the side a little bit and then slowly landed it and the tall weeds that grow up next to the field they're like three feet tall went out and got it and then started playing with it again figured out that maybe that's not the mode i wanted so i switched over to a different switch flip and everything was fine i don't know how much time i want to spend on that though i like i honestly have thought about just resetting that receiver so that's just open i can do whatever you know set up as3x plus the way you want it set up
[unknown speaker 00:38:52] i don't use safe on it i don't need any of the extra stuff it has or right but piper might want it i think we're past that oh honestly i don't think she's going to be too interested every now and then she is but i'm going to be honest with you if we're going out to fly something just for her to learn on that slow ultra stick is so much better really yeah you can behave itself so i know
[unknown speaker 00:39:16] yeah so i gotta get one of those i can't believe i don't have one now me was that no me either
[unknown speaker 00:39:23] and i can't believe you didn't buy the electro streak because it was on sale too i don't know if
[unknown speaker 00:39:27] you saw that i did see it yeah no it's cool i just this is yes i'm gonna buy one of those i have so many airplanes now that i i understood i fully get that so anyway i was doing some
[unknown speaker 00:39:41] mate post-flight maintenance after sunday's flights and my new radio i've got it set up so that it keeps track of total hours or total time yeah i just have me flipping through it just see how much time i've got on different aircraft turned out that mctwist and the fms super cub had within seconds of each other and exactly the same amount of flight time flight time or just lifetime flight it's so the timer starts over 15 throttle so basically if the throttle's on it's sure it's
[unknown speaker 00:40:11] counting they were within seconds of each other that's crazy well i mean ron and i added up our flights a while back and we were exactly the same so it's weird all stuff right that means we both
[unknown speaker 00:40:21] sucked and then the ultra slow stick which i flicked quite a bit but not as much as those two had twice as much flight time on them almost to the second yeah because the batteries last a lot yeah i was gonna say flight times are longer it's almost exactly the same within a few seconds of
[unknown speaker 00:40:38] being double yeah the other two just maybe it counts weird and just stops at a certain time and you think it's amazing but it's really just just a mess it's just messing so yeah that's cool though yeah i just
[unknown speaker 00:40:51] thought it was pretty interesting that they were so close yep still liking the new radio oh yeah cool i broke
[unknown speaker 00:40:56] it you what i broke it what do you mean you broke it i sat on it i saw that
[unknown speaker 00:41:04] don't sit on your free sky radio okay actually don't sit on any of them yeah doesn't matter what
[unknown speaker 00:41:10] brand it is it was so you guys know that i sit on the warm-up bench when i fly yeah and i had the radio sitting on the bench and i went i went to sit on the bench and i went to reach behind me and well the radio wasn't as far back as i thought it was when i sat on the bench and it shoved the handle slash 900 megahertz antenna into the upright oh i thought you're gonna say something but yeah well i wouldn't notice i'm dead in it and anyway did it do any damage it did it broke
[unknown speaker 00:41:40] the handle oh 900 megahertz it broke it flush with the radio case time for new radio so sunday that's the reason i was screwing around with the radio sunday was messing with that i took it apart and then epoxied the handle back together yeah but that's the handle yeah i don't really carry it by the handle that much because i've got that module on the back and it gets in the way so i'm more the antenna is inside that handle the 900 megahertz antenna is inside that handle did it did it the wiring is perfectly fine there's no okay i did have to disconnect the antenna leads
[unknown speaker 00:42:15] from the main board they've got those little snap yeah connectors i i put some goo on top of them to help hold them in place because they had goo in it from the factory but that does worry me a little bit that i've done that yeah but have you range checked it since i checked the 900 megahertz and the telemetry says it's fine but i haven't like taken it out in the yard and checked it quite frankly i find very little with the 900 megahertz twin at this point i've only got a couple receivers that do that oh okay so for the most part i'm still flying spectrum receivers with this
[unknown speaker 00:42:48] transmitter which is strictly 2.4 so it couldn't care less yeah but yeah don't sit on your and i think the antennas are relatively inexpensive so i'm going to order another one cool yeah so don't sit on your radio i couldn't believe i did that i heard i heard snap
[unknown speaker 00:43:06] and it's like oh but i thought it was the sticks snapping back because you know it's that on them
[unknown speaker 00:43:11] they make a sound yeah and i was putting it way back into the case and i noticed that the handle was a little wonky yeah so dang it yeah dang it the new radio you got the first scratch
[unknown speaker 00:43:22] it's over with well now yeah now you just now you can just treat it like your old radio yeah just toss it in the right way around you know just can't have anything nice i'm still not quite there with my 14 which i'm pretty proud of myself actually i'm there with mine oh are you yeah it's a tool i get that but mine still looks pristine it didn't come apart really nice very easy to take apart easy to work on well that's good yeah four screws the back plate was off so nice cool reminiscent of
[unknown speaker 00:43:50] old radios yes cool what else you got well so then my other oopsie maybe do tell incident whatever so
[unknown speaker 00:44:00] i so you crashed it kind of crashed the air scout i rough landed there was no damage it literally i didn't even put a new battery in or anything i just set it on the runway and took off again so it wasn't anything okay what'd you crash next i didn't crash anything either so let's get no crashes there was no there might have been unintended landings how's that okay sure with no harm no foul so anyway i was going back and forth between the f18 and the f22 it's the same battery for both of them i had both my chargers out i had the four cells on one the three cells on the other for the
[unknown speaker 00:44:32] aeroscout and literally i just like i said just going back and forth on things i don't know how i did it but so i flew the f18 flew it around i usually get about three minutes on a flight and then when i land it's usually 25 to 30 percent so that's where i like to keep batteries
[unknown speaker 00:44:54] one of the flights i flew very slow just piddled around in the air and stuff still did my three minutes and out of curiosity when i landed i was like what am i at now it was at 45 so i was like well that's not bad at all set it down you know whatever grabbed another battery flew something or went back to the f22 came back to the f18 threw battery in and flew it again got to my three minute mark and i was like i haven't been flying very fast very you know i was even even lower throttle this time just putting around and i was like so three minutes is fine i don't have to worry about
[unknown speaker 00:45:30] landing right yet got about three and a half minutes in and then started to come around my last pass and you know turning the final and stuff i know where this is going you sure do and so i was like well i don't i don't hear the motor at all
[unknown speaker 00:45:47] i was like trying to you know go to idle and then throttle back up and stuff oh boy i don't hear anything so i have control so that's fine so i turned and made my final and then i landed literally 300 feet down the runway more so than i planned on i was like what what happened like did i lose signal did i whatever it didn't even occur to me because i knew i was not flying very high throttle and didn't think anything about the battery being dead so apparently you know where i'm going put the same battery in without charging it yep so i can get like six minutes six plus yeah on the flight on that if i
[unknown speaker 00:46:23] don't do anything right the only time on that second flight i was at full throttle was just for the takeoff yeah but yeah so i was very lucky in the the way the timing stuff worked out yeah that's a good thing you didn't have to go around so yeah i would have been good hurt yeah i did put on the charger and it was at zero percent of course so i mean the low voltage works at low low voltage but anyway it charged back up it didn't have any issues it's you know it's it's fine but i
[unknown speaker 00:46:55] don't know how i did that like usually when i take a battery out of the airplane because i have four ports of charging yes i threw it right on the charger so everything that is sitting out is fully charged so i think maybe what i'll try and start doing is just work from left to right like oh anytime i undo a battery it goes on the left side of the charger anything that comes off the charger on the right hand side is charged yeah maybe i don't know yep what do you guys do rubber bands so when i
[unknown speaker 00:47:27] throw them on the charger i throw a rubber band on the battery i have to take rubber band off to put it in the aircraft so when it comes out of the aircraft it gets set off to the side with no rubber band on
[unknown speaker 00:47:36] that's a good system that is not bad at all i try to not take a lot of batteries for one particular airplane if that makes sense especially with these new spectrum chargers they charge so fast with the spectrum batteries that usually multiple batteries aren't necessary so if i've got one battery for for example the turbo timber i'll pull it out of the airplane put it on the charger and then i don't have another battery but if i do have two batteries when i pull it off the charger
[unknown speaker 00:48:09] i set it on top of my battery box the little case i bring the batteries in that way i know that it's charged but it's not foolproof because sometimes i forget to put them back on the charger when i pull them off and so i i've run into the same thing so i just check them i've got that little checker thing oh do you see i never use that i check them every time i think checking that one battery because i
[unknown speaker 00:48:30] wanted to see where it was after a easy flight was probably the first time i had that thing out
[unknown speaker 00:48:35] to check a battery in months i've just gotten in the habit of checking them and i did the same thing
[unknown speaker 00:48:41] just it's throw them on there real quick unless i pull them directly off the charger right i check
[unknown speaker 00:48:46] i check them right yep same well and usually i pull directly off the charger to fly but like i i did have some extra batteries that i was trying to kit charge and all that kind of stuff and just in the in the shuffle yep somehow somehow i got i missed it yeah so that's what i do i just check them and i guess that's that's the thing you know say what you will but with with horizons bnf airplanes with all the telemetry and stuff they have built in that i do like the fact that it will tell you if the
[unknown speaker 00:49:16] battery is not charged right it gets annoying like if you know it is charged but it it's not a bad
[unknown speaker 00:49:21] little but also it won't give you the warning like if you're at 60 percent either yeah well
[unknown speaker 00:49:27] oh will it yeah i think it's got to be like 90 or above or 80 or something you didn't get the warning i don't it wasn't oh it was not it was the fms yeah it was just yeah it wasn't anything smart or any telemetry built into it i guess the receiver so because i've had that on other airplanes where you plug it in and battery's not charged for flying oh okay yep so anywho that was my story
[unknown speaker 00:49:51] well i'm glad i'm glad everything turned out okay like i said no harm no foul no crash no damage no breakies yeah no damage no we're good nothing you had to repair so it's all in all a good day of flying
[unknown speaker 00:50:03] and everything flew again after it perfect but i was surprised actually being able to go back and forth and actually fly and get used to the f-22 and the f-18 at the differences in them like the f-22 very slow compared to the f-18 the and the more you fly them the more you'll you'll notice those differences yeah but i can tell you one thing that i absolutely hate i don't want to say hate because it's negative one thing i missed rudder oh so much there was a crosswind and it was every time i was
[unknown speaker 00:50:38] landing it was still kind of coming i mean it wasn't cross cross badly but it was enough to where i was at an angle in the grass yeah and that annoyed me yep because there's just no way really yeah
[unknown speaker 00:50:49] using that left stick you'll use it whether it's there or not exactly i was i'm like why is it not
[unknown speaker 00:50:54] oh that's why there are none yeah so i could see like honestly in f-22 especially going up to like 70 millimeter that has rudders that has retractable gear yep i know it probably won't fly as well because of the the weight difference but i think it would be more fun it'll still be fun yeah not that you'll have any less fun right did you see by the way that we're repairing the runway at eli i did yeah i can't
[unknown speaker 00:51:21] wait repairing not replacing right right but still but it'll be it'll be better yeah so all the big bumps are going to be gone all the which is good because you know the big the big event we got coming up you know that'll be that'll be pretty important yep cool is it done yet nice well i thought i thought i thought the club officers said they would send an email when it was finished but i haven't seen the email so yeah we failed on that one okay but if it's done that's cool yeah can't wait to see it
[unknown speaker 00:51:48] me too this weekend i will see it mm-hmm anything else we good that's all i got dave we're good we'll
[unknown speaker 00:51:55] should have a nice report next time yeah cool hope to see hope to see some folks tomorrow i'm really excited well you'll see me nice see is that what you meant yeah that's what i meant cool i'm excited to see you guys tomorrow oh you're everybody not just me well everybody sure okay
[unknown speaker 00:52:12] well thanks everybody for listening until next time i'm ron i'm tom and i'm dave good night night
