Hello everyone, and welcome to the RC Plane Lab podcast. I’m Ron, I’m Tom and I’m dave, so this is about the only time you’re going to hear my voice or dave’s voice. Today. That is pretty close to being true. You guys are going to ask me all kinds of questions about the

[Unknown speaker, 00:00:35]. Stuff I’m going to talk about. Oh good, we will be the supporting cast. Welcome to my world. Well, because you guys are lazy and didn’t do anything, I had to carry the episode this month. You do this.

[Unknown speaker, 00:00:46]. Week this week, this by week by week, this by monthly, by weekly, by tribe. Anyway, yes, this is the tommy episode, not by choice. So I flew two of my sticks, a couple batteries, through each one of those. Yes, I’m done, that’s. That’s it. Huh, yeah, the night ultra stick is awesome. I still think that’s my favorite airplane. That’s a bold statement. Yeah, it is a bold statement. Okay for night flying.

[Unknown speaker, 00:01:20]. It’s my favorite airplane. Your shiny’s not like I would have thought the shiny would be nope. Well then, you should give that to me. No, you’re going to be getting one some year.

[Unknown speaker, 00:01:31]. Maybe actually I do have a spare, if you can get henry to. Yeah, remember to take it to lito, henry rowhouse, I’m talking about if you’re listening, henry, not? Don’t forget my shiny please.

[Unknown speaker- 00:01:44]. Again for the third time. Yeah, anyway, no. So I flew that and I flew the, the regular ultra, ultra stick, the balsa one on 4s. That’s a bunch of fun. I’m surprised we haven’t done more flying, because

[Unknown speaker 00:01:58] the weather has been really good the last couple weeks here so the problem with the weather.

[Unknown speaker, 00:02:03]. Being good. Well actually, and we had our fly-ins, so we had the jet meet and then after the, the next weekend was the scale meet, then I had a camping trip, then I had the last weekend was literally catching up on stuff around the house that I gave up on for the last month and a half. So, yeah, spring should be spring, fall should be fun, fall should be good that. And it got hot again now so I really don’t much feel like going outside and I keep waiting for the corn to go away. Yeah, it’s on it like I.

[Unknown speaker, 00:02:31]. Noticed on the way out tonight some of it has been taken out already, which is really early, oh really. But like, yeah, I noticed that. Yeah, on 55, there if you look you can see several fields that I’ve.

[Unknown speaker 00:02:40] seen a couple fields out cool yeah I’ve seen they’ve starting to get dried out and brown.

[Unknown speaker, 00:02:47]. Well, we’re in. We’re in kind of- yeah, we’re in kind of a drought actually. Yeah, I saw a new term that I had not seen before. Maybe you have seen it also, I don’t know: flash drought. Never heard of that. Yeah,

[Unknown speaker 00:03:00] that’s the first time I’ve heard that I heard that a couple days ago yeah like flash flood but.

[Unknown speaker, 00:03:04]. The opposite of that, it’s a flash drought. I don’t think that’s possible because flash floods come, you know, immediately. Yeah, flash droughts just can’t right. Yeah, I saw that on facebook. I guess a while.

[Unknown speaker, 00:03:17] back, oh, that means a few days ago, and I’m like now you’re just inventing stuff to get to sound smart, yeah, to click on your ads or pages or whatever, but, yeah, flash drought, fields are really dry. I’m concerned about fires. Yeah, I’m very concerned about field fires. That’s the thing here. Yeah, well not.

[Unknown speaker, 00:03:37]. Not by me. We’re close enough, we’d have the smoke. We don’t have to worry about fire, fire, right? So we talk about airplanes on this airplane podcast, right? Not just what are you looking at?

[Unknown speaker, 00:03:47]. My phone’s ringing. Well, who is it? Is it important? Well, I can call back. Would you like us to pause? No, that’s fine, okay, so anyway, yeah, weather’s been nice, but it is getting hot again and we do have an event this weekend that we’re going to be out in the heat again. I don’t think it’s going to be.

[Unknown speaker, 00:04:04]. As bad as st louis though, yeah, but you’re literally in a corn cutout. I don’t know how else to put it, but it’s. It’s like a field corn stamp it. Yeah, I mean it’s. It’s a field that was just taking out, or taken out of corn. So across the street is corn to the left, is corn relief. Ahead of you is corn to the right of.

[Unknown speaker, 00:04:21]. Use corn. It’s in the middle of the corn. It’s- yeah, we will be children in the corn. Ah, that was not funny, it’s really terrible. So we do talk about airplanes on this podcast. Yeah, yeah, so a quick update on the ranger? No, it can’t be quick. We got a lot to fill. Well, I was just trying to segue into the oh topic. Yes, tell us about, okay, so how about an update on the ranger? Very, very good, the repairs are done. So it was a fairly involved repair for the nose gear, so it’s a fiberglass fuselage.

[Unknown speaker, 00:04:53]. The nose gear mounting structure is a kind of a pre-assembled structure that was then put into the mold, I think, when the fuselage halves were joined. So it was not easy. It wasn’t just glued in. Afterwards didn’t look like it to me, and I did discover that there was a couple of joints up there that were light on the glue. But that is no more.

[Unknown speaker, 00:05:27]. There’s 17 pounds of glue in the front of there’s. Well, it’s not just that, but anyway, I glued all the pieces that I could get to fit together again, glued them together and I put them back into the fuselage and glued them into the fuselage and then I reinforced it all with some.

[Unknown speaker, 00:05:46]. Various shapes of tri-stock and plywood and I made a new mount for the actual gear because the mount itself had splintered, because it’s light ply. You know how that stuff is when it, yeah, it gets cracked, breaks right. So, yeah, yeah, or crashes, thanks. But anyway, the nose gear was probably the more complex repair that I’ve that I’ve had to put back together in an airplane, but it’s done. The right main gear was a piece of cake, just glued all the pieces pretty much back together and

[Unknown speaker, 00:06:20] then added some reinforcement. How do you guys feel about epoxy? Like do you guys like to? I like to mix my epoxy- when I’m doing repairs anyway- with micro balloons to thicken it up a little bit. So it

[Unknown speaker, 00:06:31]. Doesn’t run all over the place, do you do that, dave? I haven’t been able to find micro balloons for so long. I know it’s out there, it’s easy to find. But yeah, I think about some of brian’s. Yeah, what I prefer, especially like a landing gear area. Milled fire glass- yeah, makes that stuff like a rock. Yeah.

[Unknown speaker, 00:06:50]. I don’t have any of that, but I would have been. Once again, it’s hard to find. Well, you can make it too. Yeah, you can just cut up, you know, fiberglass cloth, I guess, in this tiny pieces. But anyway, I didn’t have any of that, so I used micro balloons. But I like to use micro balloons to thicken it up so it looks.

[Unknown speaker, 00:07:06]. Better when it’s done- you know what I mean- like it’s not, you don’t have drips and runs and shiny spots and it kind of stays where you put it. Now I understand some people say that when you do that it doesn’t soak in because it’s not thin enough. Don’t know if I buy that or not. No, the epoxy is still thin, it’s.

[Unknown speaker 00:07:26] just got some bulk to it with the right fluff yeah the fluff stays on top but that epoxy still soaks in.

[Unknown speaker 00:07:33] right so anyway I feel pretty confident about the physical repairs and once the repairs were done.

[Unknown speaker, 00:07:42]. Let’s see what else. There was one other thing I had to fix. You had to do the back, the. This is this, by the way, I mean horizontal stab. Yes, thank you, okay, which actually that was a super easy repair. So apparently, when the airplane hit the ground it was at an angle, obviously cartwheeled. It looks like it was below the weeds, like we meant. We talked about this a little bit so I couldn’t actually see it like once it descended below that line of weeds that were past the ditch, it burned.

[Unknown speaker, 00:08:14]. Perfect, at any rate. It took the whatever stab- left hand stab, I think it was- and pulled it back so it broke the mounting points in the structure. So the stabs are built up. They’re not fiberglass like the fuselage. This is the earlier version of the ranger. Same for the wings. They’re also built up.

[Unknown speaker, 00:08:35]. So it broke the tube, the outer tube, that the inner tube slides into, you know, because they slide, you know, kind of like the receiver. Yeah, there you go, whatever you want to call it. So it broke that from the, from the ribs on the inner structure. So I thought when I was on my way home I was like, oh that’s, you know, that’s not going to be easy to repair because it’s a thin stab. You know, it’s not like really thick, there’s not a lot of reward. Well, there’s a servo hatch right there. I pulled the servo off and it was just right. It was all right there. So that was a really super easy. So all that is fixed. The airplane is ready to fly again. I did run it and here’s what I discovered.

[Unknown speaker, 00:09:15]. A few weeks prior to the jet event, you and I were actually talking about it, Ron, about whether you should defuel a jet airplane or not because of the uat. You know you introduce it. Well, I had defueled it completely like uat tank everything, a few weeks prior to that event and to facilitate maintenance in the house because I don’t want, you know, diesel fuel dripping onto the carpet in the house and

[Unknown speaker, 00:09:46]. If there’s fuel left in the uat, that means I’m probably leaving at least a little bit of fuel in the tank. And if I’m turning the airplane upside down, fuel is going to run out of the vent into the vent tube and then when I flip the airplane back over, it’s going to run out of the vent, the overflow vent on the airframe and onto my carpet. Laurie would probably not appreciate that, so I completely defueled it so I could facilitate maintenance. Just don’t tell her right, yeah, you can’t smell it. Yeah, you can’t. It’s not like you can smell it. I just tell her what are you talking about. So anyway, fast forward to the event. The jet event had four successful flights, not

[Unknown speaker, 00:10:23]. An issue. The first few flights I remember paying attention during the start and run up, initial run up, and I think maybe even the first couple of them- I actually did the shake the nose thing and I never saw any air. So I was like, oh yeah, we’re good, right? So when we brought the airplane back to the pits after the crash, I again completely defueled it because I knew I was going to be, you know, flipping it or whatever, and I mean it’s not flyable at this point anyway. So who cares if

[Unknown speaker, 00:10:54]. There’s air in the system, it’ll be like I’m starting all over. Right, I did not back up a little bit. I did not do like on that last flight. I fueled it up, started it on the very last one like, yeah, exactly, okay, started it and I gave it just a cursory yep, it’s good, put the hatch on and went and flew. I didn’t actually you didn’t shake it, I didn’t. I definitely didn’t shake it. That flight or I think maybe the

[Unknown speaker, 00:11:25]. One or two flights before that, because I had never shake mine either. I know, I know, but you don’t ever defuel completely. Defuel yours. No, even now it has probably a quarter tank. Yeah, that’s apparently a no-no. Anyway, what is lessons to completely defuel? Oh, I thought you meant to leave it in. I was like, I don’t think so. No, at any rate, the last flight I didn’t do the shake and I gave it just a cursory look inside as it was running up, and I think I even put the hatch on before it was fully, you know, at idle. So I may have. What I’m saying is I may have skipped a step on the pre-flight complacency.

[Unknown speaker, 00:12:03]. Complacency. Thank you, yep. And anyway, when I got it home and got the repairs done, I filled everything back up and ran it outside and I discovered that it was extremely difficult to get all of the air out of the system. I don’t remember it being this difficult initially, like on the very first startup, when we- you know, when we had it at eli. But like it took- I mean, without exaggerating, it took-

[Unknown speaker, 00:12:33]. Like three minutes for me to work all of the air out of the system at idle, like air was hiding everywhere, like there was air in the uat that I, that I couldn’t see unless I tapped on it, you know. And then finally that would break a bubble loose and then you’d see it, you know, get sucked into the intake or the pump intake line, and then I would tap on the pump, the fuel pump itself, and then I would see more air and then I would tap on the fuel filter, kind of like you’re trying to unseat a needle in a carburetor. You know how you like on an old holly carburetor, you would tap it to break the.

[Unknown speaker, 00:13:05]. Kind of the same motion, and I would see air coming out of the filter and then finally, finally, I didn’t see any air. But that took a good- I mean four minutes at least, because it was. It was a half a tank of fuel. So let me ask you this though: did it ever die? No, because I was never really above idle.

[Unknown speaker, 00:13:26]. Like I think if I had been at you know, quarter to half throttle or more, it may have been enough air for it to flame out, like there were some really big, I want to say gaps of fuel in the lines, air pockets that at idle it ate, if that makes sense, like it would. You could hear the rpms drop, but it never flamed out at idle. Once I saw that, all well, I thought all the air was gone. Then I ran it up and then more air, like not big bubbles but tiny bubbles, tiny bubbles.

[Unknown speaker, 00:14:02]. No, is that no song or something? Yeah, anyway, before my time. Yeah, who was that tony? Something tony? Tony bennett might have been tony bennett, I don’t know, it doesn’t matter. At any rate, at half and wide open, still more air, you know, came out and then, you know, I’m again with the tapping, finally got it to a point where I could run it at full throttle and not see any air, and that took- I mean, that took a good five, seven minutes worth of like it was almost a full tank of fuel.

[Unknown speaker, 00:14:32] to work all of that air out of the system. So I think what caused the flame out was, I think it was air. And if you go back and look at what causes, yeah, and if you go back and look at the data, like, which is cool, I’m sure all the manufacturers do that. But king tech, you know it stores the last four runs right in the dru, drm, drm, and you can, you can see, you know, you know turbine inlet temperature or whatever. You can see it drop off like almost immediately, and then you can see me pull the throttle back so like yeah, it’s, it was out of fuel. Not out of fuel, but like a you know pocket in the

[Unknown speaker, 00:15:08] line: yeah, that’s something you can like in the future. If you pull it down like that for maintenance, is it something you can draw a vacuum on? On the fuel system: yeah, I don’t know, not that I know of.

[Unknown speaker, 00:15:21]. I mean I, I don’t think you’d want to do that. You collapse, all your lines and all that stuff, but nothing is. Bleed breaks. Yeah, I, maybe I would say no, I’m saying that completely pulling it. I mean.

[Unknown speaker, 00:15:31]. There is an electric pump in the system, so you’d have to be pulling it through the pump. But I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to, just to help speed that process up. Yeah, I bet you, I bet you could hook it onto the, the line that’s that’s going into the turbine, and then hook your vacuum onto that. I bet you, I bet you could pull most of the air out that way. But it gets trapped everywhere. Like I mean, there are a lot of places for air to get trapped in one of these systems. Don ho, don. Oh, that’s the one. Tiny bubbles 1966. Oh, that’s before my time even. At any rate, the ranger is good to go.

[Unknown speaker, 00:16:06]. I believe I have all the air out of the system and I’m going to add to my checklist to verify. Even if I’m not going to shake the nose, at least watch the airlines when I run it up, at least closely.

[Unknown speaker, 00:16:18]. Yeah, I, yeah. So I think you were getting more comfortable with it with each flight, oh for sure, and I think you were doing more nose down attitude, flight stuff and, yeah, flinging things around and doing stuff more that might have, you know, freed something broken, something loose air in a.

[Unknown speaker, 00:16:40]. Sitting right. That would have been fine had you just been. Yeah, that’s right there at the top of something and right moved it all. Yep, yeah, because the first few flights were mostly boring, straight and level. Yeah, just getting used to it. Yeah, but and I even said like, as the day went on, I, I think I haven’t made the comment- man, I’m getting super comfortable with these things, yeah, yeah, and then it came back to bite you. So I, I think it was a combination of me defueling it completely the week weeks prior, introducing air into the system and then not taking the time to purge at all when

[Unknown speaker 00:17:11] I fueled it back up and got it ready to fly again yeah I’m gonna say that you’re probably right this was.

[Unknown speaker, 00:17:17]. A self-fulfilled prophecy by taking. But I learned. I learned a lot, and so did I, by the way. Yeah, clean the airplane up as soon as it flames out, and by that I mean pull the gear up. You know, maybe if you have some flaps in, pull some of the flaps out or all of them before you hit especially.

[Unknown speaker, 00:17:36]. Yeah, oh, yeah, for sure. So you probably would have gone with hardly any repairs had you done that. Yep, yep, because you also got it’s. By getting dirty and stuff, you were more prone to stall and tip stall.

[Unknown speaker 00:17:49] and yeah don’t be afraid to make your turns a little sharper give yourself more of a.

[Unknown speaker, 00:17:55]. Chance to get back to the field, and of course that all depends on the airplane, right? I mean, of course, but floater your airplanes, you don’t have to be as concerned about. But yeah, you’re right, yeah, so

[Unknown speaker, 00:18:03]. Had that been an mb339 like yours, I probably would have had no problem at all making it back to the field. No, mine is a little heavier, a little sleeker, a little higher wing loading, yeah so. But yeah, I learned a lot about what to do in an engine off situation and also learned a lot about my fuel system. So, yeah, yeah, all in all not a bad. I mean, it could have been so much worse. Oh yeah, it’ll fly.

[Unknown speaker- 00:18:31]. Again soon. Yeah, hopefully soon. And that next couple weeks kind of reminds me too. This is a little off topic, but I was thinking the other day that maybe come october, because this is going to be kind of a busy month, but after it cools down a little bit, I would like to take many airplanes that I have not flown yet and just make a day over to eli. Another day of maidens, and right, I love it. I mean I’ve got multiple, they’ve got one maiden, at least one, right, no, it’s, it’s half.

[Unknown speaker 00:18:59] maiden it’s got a half a flight no it doesn’t it has a flip and a.

[Unknown speaker, 00:19:04] an attempted flip and twist. Flip and twist, but no, like I need to do the big Telemaster. I need to do the 50 cc yak. I need to do the blue angels f18. I need to do- oh yeah, off a gear. I need to do the viper 90 with thrust vectoring. Yep, try to think what. There was a couple other ones that I was thinking, but anyway. So I think that needs to be a. Yeah, I don’t really have any new.

[Unknown speaker 00:19:35] airframes but I’ve got a lot that need to be remain with a new radio with a new radio that’s right.

[Unknown speaker 00:19:39]. The flex extra 300. Forgot about that. Oh yeah, I can’t. I still can’t believe you haven’t flown that thing yet. It’s like really exciting. So I think that would be a fun trip, day trip, just head over.

[Unknown speaker, 00:19:51]. There and just fly everything. Yep, I agree, let’s do it. Okay, speaking well, I was talking about the jet. I’m going to talk about one more jet thing and then I promise I’m not going to talk about jets anymore and then we’ll move on to other non-jet stuff. But the cortex gyro that I won at the raffle at the alini jets event is here. I got it still in the box. I haven’t had a chance to install it into the atom yet, but I’m going to do that when I install all the radio systems, so I’ll start.

[Unknown speaker, 00:20:23]. Working on that pretty, pretty soon. So you’re putting that in the atom, I think. So, yeah, I’m going to leave the, really, yeah, I’m going to leave the synapse in the in the ranger. For now I wouldn’t.

[Unknown speaker 00:20:33] no why is that you know the synapse much better you know how to program it I’ll be honest with you.

[Unknown speaker, 00:20:41]. The synapse, I mean, like was so easy to set up, but I’m not sure I would say I know it because it was.

[Unknown speaker 00:20:48] really nothing to know true you know what I mean I would I would go with the nicer receiver the.

[Unknown speaker, 00:20:54]. Nicer setup, nice receiver. I mean, it’s a, it’s one of those spectrum power safe, 14 channel, I think, receivers that you have for the, for the atom. Yeah, it’s that new one I bought at toledo, or I’m.

[Unknown speaker, 00:21:08]. Sorry, joan, all. Oh, yeah, that’s. Yeah, I would still. I would still switch that out, though I think so personally. Yeah, here’s the reason: you’re not sure how to set up the cortex yet. So that’s going to be a little learning experience, which I’m sure it’s going to be just fine. Yeah, but now you kind of have a little beater airplane that you can use as experimentation. I don’t want to call it that, I really don’t. Which one do you think is nicer? Well, I mean pre-crash even. Well, I mean.

[Unknown speaker, 00:21:36]. Yeah, the atom is a you know nicer. So that newer, more modern airplane that gets the best of all the equipment in my mind, everything I mean, I’m sure there will be. They’re all the top of the line.

[Unknown speaker 00:21:50] with you but that goes in there especially because you already own it the thing is the 14 channel and.

[Unknown speaker, 00:21:55]. Like the synapse, I sort of built into the ranger, like I made a nice mounting pad for the actual gyro and there’s a nice mounting pad for the receiver and it’s all nice and, oh man, I’m with.

[Unknown speaker 00:22:09] you I mean it’s built in it’s perfectly set up and it works yeah don’t reinvent the wheel.

[Unknown speaker, 00:22:14]. Yeah, and, and honestly, I plan on flying the ranger one and both are equally nice items. So yeah, and I’m not gonna have the atom ready to go like really any time, like I’m still waiting for an engine and that’s, you know, a twenty five hundred dollar investment that I. It’s going to be a while, so, yeah, I figure I’ll leave it be pretty quick. By the way, I’ll leave the synapse in the airplane. That.

[Unknown speaker 00:22:37] I’m flying right well yeah until it’s time to switch over and when you actually start putting the.

[Unknown speaker- 00:22:42]. Atom together. I would. I would move that over. Well, the nice thing about the atom is the tray that you mount all the stuff to. Actually there’s two trays. They’re super easy to get to. So if I decide to,

[Unknown speaker, 00:22:53]. Change it later. It’ll be easy to do and you can probably easily get them replaced if you have holes in them and just need to replace. Well, they’re just light ply oh plates. Just make your own, make your.

[Unknown speaker, 00:23:01]. Own, yeah, so okay, whatever, at any rate, it will give me something to do until I have the engine and all that, you know, unless I crash something and needs repaired or whatever, which is, you know, always a possibility, always a possibility. At any rate, the cortex is here and I’m kind of excited to tinker with it. If I’m honest, it’ll do all the- I mean, they’ll all do the stuff right. But the cortex, you know, a like a cursory look at the instructions. It has a cool feature like:

[Unknown speaker, 00:23:33]. Hard to describe but like it looks like. Positive values on the game give you standard like as3x type stuff and the negative values on the game gives you the nice heading hold stuff. So like, if you’re into hovering or you want to do nice straight level, slow rolls, you know it’ll give you that heading hold stuff and it’s just a matter of how you set your gain number, whether it’s plus.

[Unknown speaker- 00:23:57]. Or minus, so you go from one side of the game to the other. Exactly what type of gyro you want it to?

[Unknown speaker 00:24:01] be exactly yeah it looks interesting to me so will that do thrust vectoring yeah okay yep.

[Unknown speaker, 00:24:10]. So, which is cool, because I’m going to build the thrust vectoring into the atom. I may not put the servos in initially, just to keep the weight down until I get a few flights under my belt, but yeah, that three ounces is a ton. I’m using fairly heavy servos. It’s those, you know, it’s those all aluminum. Now, really nice jobs from pro modeler. Anyway, I gotcha. So, yeah, adam, it’s gonna be cool, can’t wait. Okay, that’s it for jets. Oh, I did make a repair, I forgot. Oh, slow boat from china. Finally.

[Unknown speaker, 00:24:44]. Brought me an antenna for the free sky, oh nice, so you just replaced it then, yeah, yeah, all five minutes, just don’t sit on it again and you’ll be fine. And I have a spare antenna now that’s broken. But

[Unknown speaker, 00:24:56]. Still a spare antenna. Well, hopefully you never need it. I hope not, but it’s better to need it and not have it than to I’m sorry to have it than to need it and not see. That’s why I’m different. If

[Unknown speaker, 00:25:07]. It’s broken. It’s going in the garbage. If I need another one, I’ll buy another one. What’s the point of keeping a broken one that you don’t trust enough to leave on there? Now it’s only partially.

[Unknown speaker 00:25:15] broken well it’s not that he doesn’t trust it’s just broken right the plastic is broken.

[Unknown speaker, 00:25:20]. It’s still functional, so why would you put that back on? Maybe because it’s also the handle and one half of it is broken. So I don’t, I don’t trust the other side not to break by picking it up.

[Unknown speaker, 00:25:29]. No, but I see what I see. What Ron’s saying is why. Why hang on to it if it’s broken, in case I break the other one completely off? Yeah well, so then you order another half a handle and wait three weeks.

[Unknown speaker 00:25:39] to get it no see we have a completely different thought process on all of that but that’s okay.

[Unknown speaker 00:25:44] and that’s why I have a surplus of spare parts which came in handy at toledo for Ron yes but.

[Unknown speaker, 00:25:54]. He didn’t give me any broken parts. Oh well, you know he gave me parts to replace if something breaks- spare parts or spare parts- and that was on a car and so, yes, I’m glad he had that. But if he would have handed me one that was broken in half, I’d have been like what, what do you do with this? It’s.

[Unknown speaker- 00:26:07]. Broken, yeah, but what if it was like: yeah, okay, I can’t really make a, so anyway, I spent forty dollars, fixed my radio. We’re back up and running. How long did it take to replace it? Five minutes, five minutes, yeah, it’s literally it’s. It’s harder to get the battery door off than it is to actually.

[Unknown speaker, 00:26:25]. Take the radio apart. Yeah, it’s four screws. Hey, I finally finished. Finally, it’s been over a year. Stop. Finally finished the glider nose electric motor stuff conversion, thank you, with the torqueman quick release prop adapter, which is actually really slick, by the way. Great, I’m great grateful.

[Unknown speaker 00:26:49] to have it done but now that just pushes me to get the rest of that well that’s kind of the idea.

[Unknown speaker, 00:26:54]. And that’s good. You want to fly it eventually, I do, and very bad, now you are not waiting on me. I’ve made. I’ve made some progress. You have not recently, well, but no, not recently. Yeah, yeah, the wings have moved. They’re not on the floor anymore. In the middle of hyper had some friends over so I wanted to make.

[Unknown speaker, 00:27:11]. Sure that stuff didn’t get messed up when they were down here. So what’s left to do on it covering right? No, I have to fix the one of the wing panels is. It’s got some spots that have been crushed, so I’ve got to fix those. There’s a few things on the fuselage that need to be done. I honestly don’t remember right offhand what they were because it’s been a while. But yeah, then after that it’s just recovering and then putting all the servos and stuff in and electronics and sourcing some wing

[Unknown speaker 00:27:41] tubes that was the other thing that was going to suck is the wing tube actually I need every tube.

[Unknown speaker 00:27:45] for it because it didn’t come with any of them oh even the tubes for the nose tubes wing tubes.

[Unknown speaker 00:27:50] the I think there is oh the far out wing tubes whatever you call those because.

[Unknown speaker, 00:27:55]. Far out man, it’s. It’s a four piece wing because it’s bigger. So big. Are they carbon or aluminum, or what are they supposed to be? I’ll probably do carbon fiber, of course you will. Why wouldn’t you? It’s lighter, right, it’s only five times the price, but yeah, yeah, whatever you know, I mean, does it matter that much? No, honestly, I don’t think so. I’ll be, I’m fine, yeah, but anyway, it was quite a, that was quite a project. Well, so you brought that to me tonight. I did so, thank you, and tell me what all

[Unknown speaker 00:28:26] did you do so this particular airplane did not have a nose a nose so it when I got it honestly.

[Unknown speaker, 00:28:35]. Looked to me like it might have had a motor in it before, like I don’t know what happened. It looked like there might have been a motor in there before, but I didn’t see any motor mounts right.

[Unknown speaker 00:28:44] there was holes for one okay so there was no physical that’s the case it looks like somebody.

[Unknown speaker 00:28:49] literally just said oh I want that motor and just broke the nose to yank it out right kind of what.

[Unknown speaker 00:28:55] it looked like I mean I don’t think it was crash damage no because that was just right on I mean.

[Unknown speaker, 00:28:59]. There’s nothing else, that’s crash damage. So unless maybe somebody had it and just put it too hard on the ground when they were trying to store it- possibly, but I don’t know- at any rate, this is the glider.

[Unknown speaker 00:29:12] that you did some horse trading with terry right so yeah we you got it sans nose so we thought.

[Unknown speaker 00:29:20] well no it had everything but the probably last inch yeah right I mean it was crushed and.

[Unknown speaker, 00:29:27]. A lot of the structure was damaged even behind that, so yeah. So you thought hey, now would be. You saw these cool little quick release adapters at the glider toe event, I think at the eli. Yeah, so two years ago.

[Unknown speaker, 00:29:40]. Now I think I saw I think it was ali- had one that he was flying, as big he had like a 30 foot wingspan glider and stuff, and he, when he was done flying, he just walked up and kind of like just magically touched the, the front of his airplane and the propellers came off and I was like what is that? It’s cool. And so he explained how it worked and all that stuff and how it’s safer that way, you know, you don’t have spinning propellers that could possibly turn on, and I think it’s more just cool than anything. To be honest, it is cool. So I went and looked those up and they’re very pricey.

[Unknown speaker 00:30:14] and you had to get it from england right I don’t remember where it came from that’s been a while ago.

[Unknown speaker 00:30:18]. Yeah, it didn’t come from the states. I remember that. I don’t remember torqueman, it might have actually. At any rate, that was a good opportunity to incorporate that into the nose rebuild.

[Unknown speaker- 00:30:30]. Yeah, so the plan for that is to be able to do it both on a tow or just an actual launch.

[Unknown speaker- 00:30:37]. So what I did was I basically cut the nose back. I cut back to the next former, which is where the damage stopped, and then, from that former forward, I just sort of re-engineered everything and put a mount for a huge. It looks like it’s a, it’s a purple motor, I can’t think of the name.

[Unknown speaker- 00:31:02]. Gosh dang it. Oh yeah, I had it in my head: hi something. Is it a hi max? No, we see jetty. No.

[Unknown speaker- 00:31:10]. We’re getting there. I think that’s right. Is it jetty? I think so. It’s a jetty speed controller, so it’s probably a jetty motor too. At any rate, it’s a honking, honking motor. So I had to do some engineering and bracing of the nose to support this monster, and then I had to pretty much reshape or come up with a shape for the nose that would work with that torqueman adapter, and I think it came out nice. Actually, I’ll show it to. I’ll show it to dave when we’re done, and dave

[Unknown speaker 00:31:40] hasn’t seen it yet but anyway that is that is done and now waiting on you Ron to finish.

[Unknown speaker, 00:31:47]. So what all of you have to do, though? Because the alignment had to be just right. You had to cut the front of it off, you had to reinforce stuff, you had to build a nose, you had to shape it. You had to, you had to figure out where to put the, the nose, the support bearing on, yeah, the support bearing had.

[Unknown speaker, 00:32:03] to go in somewhere. So the torqueman adapter kit came with a bearing and a housing for the bearing that has to be incorporated into the airframe, and I guess the reason for that is: I guess it makes the whole assembly kind of long, so if there’s no support at the end of it I guess it could wobble a lot of run out, yeah, except run out, so yeah. So anyway, I had to sort of engineer that support for that bearing housing into the nose, which I made removable.

[Unknown speaker, 00:32:38]. Very nice, and it’s held on with magnets, which is kind of neat, has two carbon pins that keep it in alignment. But yeah, I had to, had to create formers, had to run some stringers and shape the nose out of block, and I tried to maintain the profile that was in the instructions.

[Unknown speaker, 00:32:58]. From the three view that was in the instructions. I got close but because of the way you know, you don’t want the motor shaft sticking out above or below the center line. You want it kind of in the. So I had to take some liberties with the shape of the nose. But yeah, you want it’s close, close to the what they intended. And I added some down thrust, a little bit of right thrust, a lot of down thrust, I should say.

[Unknown speaker 00:33:25] because any of that adjustable down the road if need be or is it yeah fairly fixed if he needs to.

[Unknown speaker- 00:33:29]. Adjust it, he’ll. He’ll be able to. There’s enough material in the nose where, if he needs to reposition it and then sand it to a different shape, there’s enough material there to do that. So if he ever,

[Unknown speaker 00:33:39] needs to hopefully he won’t need to but I hope not sorry I had to go check it’s a hacker motor.

[Unknown speaker, 00:33:45]. Hacker, I knew jetty didn’t sound, right, okay. Well, it’s a jetty speed controller, right? That’s what’s in the box. In the box, yeah, but at any rate, that’s what. That’s what I had to do and I think it came out nice. Hopefully, after you fly it, it won’t need any adjustment or modification, but if it does, there’s, there’s room for that if you need to. So, yeah, so, as he gets done, mortgaging the house to buy the covering. Yeah, it’s a lot of covering. It’s how long is the fuselage? It’s like seven and a half feet maybe. I mean at least that part with the rudder and everything it’s. It’s pretty long anyway.

[Unknown speaker 00:34:21] it’ll be a lot of covering it’s not that bad luckily it’s just white right that’s what you’re.

[Unknown speaker, 00:34:26]. Covering it, it’s going to be mostly white and then also the carbon fiber looking stuff. Oh okay, I don’t know why, but I like that a lot, so it looks nice. A nice way of saying it’s not.

[Unknown speaker 00:34:42] no it looks fine I like the carbon fiber look especially like it on the on the duel that you built.

[Unknown speaker, 00:34:48]. A while back. Well, and this is going to be one to where I’m not using it like as a main color for anything. This is just the accents. Yeah, so it’s going to be on the tail, it’s going to be on the wingtips, but nothing, nothing overly gaudy. Yeah, makes sense gaudy. So what are you looking at now? I’m trying to find out. When I bought the? Yeah, I have no idea about the torqueman. Yeah, that’s it was.

[Unknown speaker 00:35:17] right after you got it and that was two years ago shh well that’s my fault because I’ve had the nose.

[Unknown speaker 00:35:23] that long trying to trying to figure out how I was gonna well and that’s the funny thing so after.

[Unknown speaker, 00:35:28]. The- was it the jet meet or something? You, you, we had talked before about me 3d printing another one of the nozzles for the viper, the viper 90 for you. And you told me: hey, I think I’m ready for you to print me one of those. I think that’s what you said. And I was like, oh, are you now like? I said I offered I would do it before, but you told me not to. Well, why did I tell you not to do it? I said well, because you told me that I should not print you that until I am fin or until you were finished with

[Unknown speaker 00:36:00] my nose because you felt like you should do that before I should do anything else did anything else.

[Unknown speaker, 00:36:06]. Yeah, so well, now you can, now I can, now it’s now it’s done. But no, I had, I had a couple days off and I was done with most of the other stuff and I thought, you know, before I spend a lot of time putting my ranger back together, I really need to get this done for Ron. Well, it was funny.

[Unknown speaker, 00:36:27] though, because I don’t even know what time. It wasn’t late, but you sent me a text and a picture of it, yeah, and I was in bed and I was sorry. No, it was like 8: 30, don’t worry about it, jeez, that’s. Oh, there’s been a couple nights where I’ve just been so tired I’ve gone to bed super early, but anyway. So you sent me a picture. The picture hadn’t come through yet and all I saw was something like it’s finished or it’s ready, or something along those lines. So I was looking, I was like, okay, cool, his jet’s done when I’m figuring right. And so then I hear the ding come through. You know a couple.

[Unknown speaker- 00:37:03]. Seconds later, okay, here’s a picture of it. And I look: oh, here’s a jet, oh no, that’s the nose shucks. That means I’ve got to get going on the rest of it or else I will never hear the end of.

[Unknown speaker- 00:37:12] it. So that’s not true. You’re absolutely going to. I mean, if it takes, you know, two years, yeah, I might say something. Maybe if it’s six months or so, I’m not in a hurry. Well, it’s going to be a winter.

[Unknown speaker 00:37:23] thing yeah that’s fine last year and the year before yeah that’s fine and the problem with it is.

[Unknown speaker, 00:37:28]. Like you’re, you’re going to have someone else make it right, or are you going to do it yourself this time? Make what? My nozzle for my viper? Oh, I don’t care about this one, I’ll do it, oh, okay.

[Unknown speaker, 00:37:41]. Well, we see how that works. Yeah, actually I might just have him do it again. He does 3d printing stuff a lot more than I do and I honestly don’t even know what. What’s the stuff called the liquid stuff, the resin? I don’t even know what I have over there right now, to be honest. So

[Unknown speaker, 00:37:58]. Yeah, I am not. A winter project is fine, because I plan on flying that viper some more, so wouldn’t it be more fun? I mean, it didn’t take long to put that on, I’ll fly yours.

[Unknown speaker, 00:38:07]. I don’t know if I trust you. I’ve flown it one and a half times already. That’s true, successfully- but you weren’t trying to flippy dippy it. Well, or whatever that is. Take it, take it up, and that’s funny. Yeah, is that? What a flippy, flippy, floppy, flippy floppy- it’s the term we picked up. This is the official, official wording for when you’re doing stuff like

[Unknown speaker 00:38:31] that when we’re at the jet event miguel was out there with his you know vectored I think he had.

[Unknown speaker 00:38:37] his vectored thrust viper out there and I he was explaining that one of the kids on how to fly it.

[Unknown speaker, 00:38:45]. Right, he, he said he was talking to the kid he’s like, and if you want to do flippy floppies you have to flip this switch and do that. So then later on that day, miguel was flying and I yelled.

[Unknown speaker 00:38:57] miguel do some more flippy floppies and I just thought it was really funny yeah this was funnier.

[Unknown speaker, 00:39:02]. Then it really wasn’t getting into the story. I was just gonna say, anyway, that’s good, though at least, at least you’re self-aware. Yeah, that was, that was a lot funnier. Then huh, and then what he do? He did more flippy floppies. And then what’d you do? I laughed and thought it was cool. And then what’d?

[Unknown speaker 00:39:21] he do I don’t know I don’t either I was just trying to see if there’s more to it or no that’s.

[Unknown speaker 00:39:26] really it that’s these more flippy floppies.

[Unknown speaker 00:39:31] dork anyway yeah so anyway the glider is ready for you now.

[Unknown speaker, 00:39:35]. And I will have it done this time. Honestly, now the biggest thing that’s stopping me- and I know it’s, it’s on me, but I really need to make another canopy for it, because the canopy- yeah, exactly, so I’m gonna have to work on it’s sitting down there somewhere, but that one’s cracked up and it’s all need to be replaced, so I’m gonna have to. So how are you find a way to make a mold and

[Unknown speaker, 00:40:02]. Go back up to brian’s or something. Make a this machine big enough to do one of those. That’s pretty big. That’s not that big of a canopy, to be honest. Oh, is it okay? Can you make one? Luckily it’s bigger.

[Unknown speaker 00:40:13]. Bottle or something. No, it’s bigger than that, but it’s only- I don’t know- 10, 12 inches long, because it’s it’s I don’t know airplane, so I don’t know what I’m saying. But it’s not like a full bubble canopy. Where the turtle deck is it kind of like cuts straight off, so it’s just from the nose up, so it’s more like a windscreen than a canopy. Well, no, it goes all the way over you. Oh okay, but you don’t have the like on a- there’s no back to it. Yeah, like on a p51 mustang. You know how it has the like: cut a p51 mustang canopy in half and you’re just doing the front half of that. Does that make sense? Okay, so,

[Unknown speaker, 00:40:47]. That shouldn’t be so bad then. No, it’s not terrible. You just have to do it. I just have to find a way to support it and then plaster, mold it, whatever, and figure all that stuff out which I need to learn.

[Unknown speaker 00:40:58] how to do anything yeah I was gonna say that’ll be a new skill yeah not a bad one a few canopies.

[Unknown speaker 00:41:03] I kind of like doing it’s kind of fun well there you go there’s a canopy over there if you.

[Unknown speaker- 00:41:10]. Just want to grab that. That’s what I mean. I heard dave volunteered. Yeah, canopy is what I heard. That way, it’s a group project for all of us. Hey, speaking of group, we’re going up to mclean, illinois this weekend. Mclean- is it mclean? I thought it was mclean. It’s mclean? Yeah, like mclean.

[Unknown speaker 00:41:31] yeah well m-c-l-e-a-n oh it’s not two c’s no there’s just one c okay so it’s mclean.

[Unknown speaker 00:41:40] so we’re going there this weekend for a vintage rc airplane flying so this should be right up your alley.

[Unknown speaker, 00:41:49]. Unfortunately, I’m I’m making a mental note of all my airplanes that I can take and I’m coming up with a big goose egg like I don’t have any of the old stuff that you do. No, you don’t. You don’t like old airplanes. I do not very much like old airplanes. You’re correct, I have plenty, I know, to take that.

[Unknown speaker, 00:42:07]. 90 Of what you have probably gonna end up taking the contender. I mean, why not? Probably going to take, depending on whether I’m able to bring stuff out and put it in the trailer. Might take the big cub and that’s certainly vintage bud nosen. Probably going to take the Telemaster.

[Unknown speaker, 00:42:28]. That’s a vintage airplane. That’s three. I mean that’s enough, and those are three big ones. Three. What else are you in? I thought there was other things. No, I mean maybe the, maybe that old kyosho gb with the three-cylinder radial, because it’s old, but it sounds really nice. So, yeah, yeah, so.

[Unknown speaker 00:42:45] vintage I don’t know if they have an actual time frame on it but I would think like 25-ish years.

[Unknown speaker, 00:42:50]. So like 90s, anything from the 90s or before. Pretty sure that kyosho ARF was late 90s. The contender goes way back. That’s 60s, 70s. Yeah, the Telemaster, that’s got to be 80s, late 80s maybe. Well, that one was the Hobby Lobby. One right is that, we figured. And then the, that big cub bud nose and cub- I mean the bud, bud nose and plans have been around forever. I mean I don’t know when this airplane was actually built. This one, yeah, but I don’t think it’ll be that biggest of sticklers on

[Unknown speaker 00:43:27] it I don’t either and it’ll sound good with that os twin on it so yeah I’ll try to I’m guessing.

[Unknown speaker 00:43:33] nothing electric will be there because I’ve got nothing that would fit when were the electro.

[Unknown speaker 00:43:39] streaks that would be early that’d be early 90s maybe I don’t know when that article was written.

[Unknown speaker 00:43:46] what are you looking at me for my electro streak is from 2025.

[Unknown speaker, 00:43:51]. Yeah, 2024 from whatever original plans. I mean that kind of counts, right. The only one I have finished is the e-flight one. Oh, that’s right, you don’t have a finished one. Thank you very much, I do. How about you, dave? Dave, do you want to say it’s three pieces? I’m I’m actually surprised, dave, that you didn’t come in and like: bring a new.

[Unknown speaker, 00:44:11]. Electro streak with you, not a new, but a redone or a reboot. You know, actually it would have been done if I wasn’t rushing to get the other, the stinson project- finished for reasons, yeah, and I’ve just been bogged down at home, so that’s really slowed down. Yeah, but it should be ready for paint this weekend. So the stinson, okay. Yeah, it’s just the wing. Yeah, fuselage. Technically, I need to repaint the cowl, but it’s been touched up. It’s close enough. Yeah, but the stinson wing should be painted and

[Unknown speaker 00:44:44] done by the middle of next week if we get decent weather it’s not too humid or rain yeah so you’re.

[Unknown speaker 00:44:50] gonna just build a new fuselage for the e-streak or are you gonna no the e-streak’s just gonna get.

[Unknown speaker 00:44:54] the nose hacked off perfect that should be easy enough yeah it’s a it’s a two evening yeah ordeal.

[Unknown speaker 00:44:59] nice box fuselage yeah I can’t remember did you glass the fuselage is not glass but I did.

[Unknown speaker 00:45:05]. Bump up the material, but I think it’s supposed to be 3, 32nd and I went full. Eight, eighth inch, yep, I think.

[Unknown speaker- 00:45:11]. I did as well. I think my. My fuselage is eighth inch also, so cool, yeah. So that should be. That should be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to it. Yeah, even though I won’t. Hopefully it’s taking anything to fly, hopefully it’s not. Well, you can fly my stuff there you go, but hopefully it’s not super.

[Unknown speaker 00:45:26] hot like it must be 95 well but I mean not 105 no but 95 and the humidity starts supposed to start.

[Unknown speaker- 00:45:32]. Building back in. Yeah, and, like we said earlier, we’re in a corn bowl. But you bought a fan. I did buy a fan. Yes, after daniel’s fan, it’s gonna be. I couldn’t not have a fan. I will sit right in front of that fan all day. If you want to come talk to me, you can come over to me in my chair. Yeah, I’m gonna bring.

[Unknown speaker 00:45:48] an easy up I’m probably just gonna bring stuff out to the house may as well our house or my house.

[Unknown speaker 00:45:54] and then yeah then we’ll get it all loaded up and your truck makes it there it’ll be fine I’m not.

[Unknown speaker 00:46:00] worried but yeah it should be it should be a good time I regret not buying the air conditioner yet.

[Unknown speaker, 00:46:07]. I should have just bought it last week. Good luck buying an air conditioner right now. My, I had to replace mine in the house. But oh no, no, I’m talking about specifically for the trailer. Yeah, they’ve got them in stock. I just have been cheap and like, do I really want to? But now I wish.

[Unknown speaker, 00:46:22]. I would have because 95, my brand new air conditioner I bought this year, kind of went on the fritz in the middle of the last heat wave. It worked, it cooled, it’s fine. It’s the control panel locked up. You couldn’t control it, but the remote worked. Oh so that’s fine. We went let the who gets up and dials the dial anyway. Anyway, I let it run dial until the heat wave broke and then we went to take it back to swap it out, and they don’t have any out of stock, so I had to take what I was able to find and

[Unknown speaker 00:46:52] it’s subpar but it’ll go in a bedroom next year and we’ll get another big one for them for that.

[Unknown speaker 00:46:58] front room yep yes so anyway yeah it’s gonna be hot but I think we’ll have a good time anyway.

[Unknown speaker 00:47:06] I couldn’t handle just having a couple window units I keep my house way too cold well your.

[Unknown speaker, 00:47:11]. House is also like eight times the size of dave’s. No, it’s not. I love having a window unit because I in the in the daytime, I just turn off the air in the back half of the house and shut the door. I don’t have to pay to cool. Oh, no, I’m not grueling stuff that doesn’t need to be cooled. No, no, the face.

[Unknown speaker 00:47:28] Ron is making right now sorry the disgusted look he’s sweating just thinking about it thinking.

[Unknown speaker, 00:47:34]. About like, look, there’s a little bit, and if I’m standing like crazy in my work room and I want to make it 65 in there, I make it 65 in there. That’s what I do here all the time. Yeah, but it’s the

[Unknown speaker 00:47:42] family I know not everybody wants it to be 65 I don’t care they can put more clothes on well I mean.

[Unknown speaker 00:47:51] true yeah I’m still not paying to cool my entire house when I don’t have to 95 degrees outside and.

[Unknown speaker, 00:47:57]. Tommy comes over and has to cover himself up with a blankie. Yes, I have a blanket on my legs right now because it’s like I think it feels like 52 degrees. It is not that bad. That’s what it feels like. It probably is 61 I will net. It always feels nice over here. Thank you, dave. I do like. I mean. Thank you guys. Like it cold? I get it. I’ve got all the extra. I’m not complaining. Thermal insulation.

[Unknown speaker, 00:48:20]. Built into my body. You kind of sound like you were. No, I’m just saying I have a because you mentioned it. Yes, I do have a blanket on my legs, just because I’m. It’s a little chilly in here, but I’m not complaining. I’m also not saying it’s great either, so it’s wonderful there. Anything else I just wanted to one quick shout out to craig, one of our listeners. He sent me a bunch of irvine 40 engine parts, so I just wanted to say thank you. Appreciate that. They will get put to use. Maybe not right away, but I was having an issue with one of the motors on the dualist when

[Unknown speaker, 00:48:54]. We were in st louis, so it may get one of those carburetors that you sent me, craig. So I just wanted to say thank you and yeah, thank you, thank you, I guess. Okay, that’s all I have. I mean, it’s up, it’s.

[Unknown speaker 00:49:07] all you guys from here on out well thanks everybody for listening dave you got anything else.

[Unknown speaker 00:49:13] no other than the vehicle situation that’s all I’ve got well there’s something kind of exciting.

[Unknown speaker 00:49:20] on that front I mean I think it’s exciting anytime anybody gets something like that oh god you guys.

[Unknown speaker 00:49:27] suck at teasing or whatever just spit it out dave so the expedition’s on its way out next wednesday.

[Unknown speaker 00:49:33] I pick up my new truck dave’s getting a new truck new truck a toyota tundra yeah not new.

[Unknown speaker, 00:49:39]. Because I mean, it looks pretty good in the pictures. I’d say it’s a 2012, it’s new to you, it’s a new to me, right it looks. So there you go. Very nice, super reliable, big v8. Well, we hope we’ll.

[Unknown speaker 00:49:51] see yeah but it’s got the v8 which yes no more turbos it’s no yeah dumb twin turbo v6 blah.

[Unknown speaker 00:50:02] anyway yes I will have to say when the expedition worked it worked really well when it was.

[Unknown speaker, 00:50:07]. Broke. It was really, really broke. Yeah, yep, see you just got to give up on them. Fords, yeah, ford. After two bad ones in a row, anything good anymore. You know, they’re all pieces of junk when they don’t.

[Unknown speaker 00:50:18] run yeah I’ve been a lifelong ford guy and I just bought my first non-ford in my entire life so yeah.

[Unknown speaker, 00:50:27]. Yeah, how about that? Although can I say, if we’re getting off topic like this, here it comes: yes, 99 tesla, tesla, tesla. 99 000 Miles on our tesla now has it got that many miles?

[Unknown speaker 00:50:41] already 99 000 miles and you guys are driving the wheels off that thing four years not a lick of.

[Unknown speaker, 00:50:47]. Problems: tires: yeah, standard maintenance stuff, but yeah, no, that’s it. Tires is all like literally awfully hard on tires. There is no other maintenance. Well, it doesn’t help that. Zero to 16, 3.7 Seconds, well, you got to keep your foot out of it. Yeah, I don’t, it’s fun, it is. So, yeah, not a lick of maintenance, nothing. Yep, I get it and it’ll catch fire tomorrow morning, can you? Can you pull a trailer?

[Unknown speaker 00:51:15] with it no can you haul big airplanes in it my jet fits so it works fine that’s true.

[Unknown speaker 00:51:23] a lot of stuff in that thing I’m amazed every time he unpacks that how much he gets in that thing.

[Unknown speaker 00:51:28] when he unpacks it sometimes he just goes to drive around he just drives it around take his airplanes.

[Unknown speaker 00:51:32] on tours and stuff look guys here’s more airspace you won’t find yes anyway that’s all I have well.

[Unknown speaker 00:51:39] congratulations dave I’m excited for you I hope it works out well I think it will I hope it does as.

[Unknown speaker, 00:51:43]. Well, I’m really nervous about it. There are some features of the expedition with. I’ve driven three expeditions in a row now. There’s some things I’m really going to miss, but it’s time for something.

[Unknown speaker, 00:51:54] different. Yeah, one thing I really like about fords: we have divulged in- or not divulged what’s it called. We’ve gotten off the rails. But that’s fine, deviate, anybody can just hang up. Now we’re not going to talk about airplanes for the rest of the episode, but one thing I do like about fords is the keypad on the door. I love the keypad. That makes it so nice I got. I like that when we go to the lake. I don’t.

[Unknown speaker- 00:52:14]. Have to take my keys out on the boat. I just lock the keys in the car. Yeah, that’s really weird. The first time you do it. Yeah, so there’s the keys and the clunk, yep, and then you lock it up, yeah.

[Unknown speaker 00:52:24] yep we’ve done that so yeah I’m gonna really miss that but do the do the new fords still have that.

[Unknown speaker, 00:52:29]. Yeah, do they? I have no idea. No, I’ve not seen the new ford now, like the tesla, has the app. So you, you know, you don’t actually don’t even have keys for that, you just have a key card that looks like a.

[Unknown speaker 00:52:42]. Credit card actually for your phone. I think most of the newer vehicles have that. The apps: I’m pretty sure chevy has an app that you can do this. I would hope so. I mean I would hope pretty much all cars have that. To be honest, at this point I’m not going to know for many years because I can’t afford the.

[Unknown speaker, 00:53:00]. New cars? I won’t know till cybertruck comes down in price, but then we’ll see. I went backwards. Less technology, that’s not a bad thing. Yeah, that’s what I was looking at. But see, going with electric, it’s the amount of moving parts there are, just like none compared to a regular car, like a gas car.

[Unknown speaker 00:53:19] I think they’re basically wanted the second gen which had less stuff on it yeah I think there’s 18.

[Unknown speaker 00:53:25] moving parts in my drivetrain 18 I think so it was under 20 wow that’s like nothing so nice a lot.

[Unknown speaker, 00:53:35]. Less stuff to break, right, or. But when something does go wrong, then it’s expensive. Yeah, but like in a hundred thousand miles, if you like. Factor that into the like, the time and like you know. If it’s a, let’s say it’s a four thousand dollar repair, well, over the course of four years, and a hundred thousand miles, a thousand dollars a year, that’s not so bad in maintenance. So I’ve been, I’ve done the

[Unknown speaker, 00:53:56]. Math, you know I’m saying like you haven’t been doing oil changes, you know what I’m saying. I’ve paid nothing for upkeep on that. So I did do the math and just driving it. The difference in price on driving that car versus the audi we had in 200 000 miles, that car pays for itself. Oh, the tesla.

[Unknown speaker 00:54:14] the tesla pays for itself just in the amount you paid for maintenance on the other car.

[Unknown speaker 00:54:18] no that wasn’t even taking account maintenance that was just gas savings oh no kidding yeah wow.

[Unknown speaker, 00:54:23]. So that’s impressive. Yeah, cool. Anywho, anything else? No, that is all I have. Thanks everybody for listening. Until next time. I’m Ron, I’m Tom and I’m dave. Good night, good night. Good night, we hope you.
