[00:00:02] Hello everyone and welcome to the RC Planelab podcast. I’m Ron. And I’m Dave.
[00:00:06] And I’m Tom. Oh, we have a ghost. What? Hey guys. Hey. Surprise, Dave.
[00:00:14] I wondered why you’re doing all this extra work. I had to lie to him so many times. Something was up. I knew something was up.
[00:00:22] Yeah, it’s good to be back. Kind of back.
[00:00:26] So tell your tale. What is going on and why do you
[00:00:30] Sound so weird and so delayed? So, yeah. It got extended as most everybody knows. I don’t think anybody knows, by the way. Yeah, we’ve been keeping that pretty quiet. Right. Six-month deployment turned into a well, it’s going to be a 12-month deployment. Halfway through the deployment, when they notified us that they were extending us, they gave us the option to move out of the place that we were living in, which was not ideal for podcast recording, even remotely.
[00:00:59] So the place that I moved into, much better setup, much better Wi-Fi. And now I have a good connection and could rejoin the podcast remotely.
[00:01:11] So we will see how this goes.
[00:01:14] All right. I can’t see the back. Are you actually seeing Tom?
[00:01:18] No. No, I’m just, all I’m saying here, you can see the screen now that the surprise is over. All I’m saying is, yeah. No, I don’t see him.
[00:01:26] No, it’s audio only. Yeah. So we’re probably going to have some issues. I’m going to be honest. This is our first time recording from this greater distance. I know because Tommy and I tried this last night for a little bit and there was a delay. There is going to be a little bit of a lag in it. And a lot of that had to do with the fact that my computer was going through a VPN. Now that I’m not, it’s gotten a little bit tightened up, but there’s still going to be a little bit of a little drag, little issues. Yeah. And it’s always hard. Yeah. It’s always hard when you
[00:01:58] Don’t have the eye contact and the, to tell when somebody is getting ready to stop talking or when they’re starting to talk, but we will make this work because gosh, darn it. I have nothing to talk about. And Tommy, this is your episode.
[00:02:11] I don’t know. I deserve an episode all to myself.
[00:02:14] I’m going to take the earphones off and go upstairs and watch TV while you do.
[00:02:17] This. Okay. Then I don’t care. I got my buddy.
[00:02:23] I haven’t been up to much. I did. I was able to bring some airplanes with me to fly small airplanes at Turbo Timber Evolution and my UMX Ultrix. I did actually in the previous place I was living, I built an airplane from a short kit from Rob at Balsa Workbench. So I’ve been flying that. It’s an ACE 440 basically with a four stroke on it. So I do have access to a hobby shop. And for those wondering where I’m at in the world, I’m actually in the U.S. in the
[00:02:57] Desert Southwest. So we’ll just sort of leave it at that. But I have been doing some flying, not nearly as much as I would like. And I just got to say, I miss my jet.
[00:03:09] And it’s funny though, because I’ve talked to you a couple of times in text back and forth. You have been flying a lot more than I have.
[00:03:16] Oh, it’s really weather. Yeah. We’ve been wet and windy.
[00:03:22] True. And cold and just hellacious.
[00:03:25] Yeah, it has been windy and hot, believe it or not, here for the last, I don’t know, a month and a half to two months. But I did do quite a bit of flying in the October, November, December timeframe. But January and February was not too awful, but it did get hot and windy in March. And it’s been kind of that way just until recently. So I’m planning on actually flying tonight. we’re a few hours difference between you guys and me. So I’m going to do some night flying with one of the local clubs here tonight when we’re done recording. So I need to get back on the flying train because, yeah, I’m pretty
[00:04:02] Rusty. So do how many flights you have so far this year? Because I will compare with you if I can find mine right quick.
[00:04:12] Yeah. So I closed out last year pretty well. Like I said, did quite a bit of flying in October, November and even into December. But this year it’s been it’s been pretty low.
[00:04:21] So if I I’ve not been good about maintaining my spreadsheet, got a lot of UMX Ultrix flights because I can fly that thing just about anywhere. And I do have maybe, I don’t know, half a dozen handful of flights on the on the turbo timber. So, so far for the year, if I had to put a number on it, I’d say maybe 20.
[00:04:44] Oh, okay. Well, you’re worse off than I thought you were. I feel much better right now. I think I’m at what, like 36. Oh, wow. That’s good.
[00:04:57] But that’s only out of four outings, I think. Three or four. I don’t remember. I’ve been out three times.
[00:05:03] Well, I’ve been out every time you have.
[00:05:05] So I got 10 in Saturday.
[00:05:07] I was at eight. No, I was at nine Saturday, I think. So.
[00:05:11] So we ought to all be pretty close.
[00:05:13] Yeah, we should be at this point. Well, nice. What else, Tommy? I mean, like I said, we haven’t heard from you for ages. So we’ve missed you.
[00:05:23] Yeah. Well, I’ve missed, missed you guys too. I’ve missed everything about home. like I said, I miss my jet. I mean, obviously I miss home and, my wife and the dog and the kids and, and routine, being away from home is, is, for lengthy periods of time is not a lot of fun, especially when you, you don’t have airplanes to fly or the airplanes you want to fly. You don’t have access to. Yeah. But, but yeah, I mean, I’ve tried to, I’ve tried to, manage. but yeah, at, at the end of the day,
[00:05:56] I’m not at home. Right. Yeah. You don’t have your stuff. Exactly. Or my friends that I, that I like to fly with,?
[00:06:04] Yeah. It’s, it’s not to get too mushy, but it’s thrown a wrench on, I think all of our plans for this year, honestly. Like I, I’m sorry.
[00:06:12] Well, it’s not your fault, but it is because of you.
[00:06:15] I know.
[00:06:18] Now we’ll, we’ll, we’ll make up for it whenever you get back and just do a lot of flying.
[00:06:22] Yeah. Yeah, for sure. so, obviously I missed, Joe Nall and I missed, the, the big swap Toledo. I’ve missed all the other little, little places that you’ve gone, that you guys have gone. so, I mean, every time, like in the, in the spring, or earlier this spring, when you guys were hitting some of the local swaps, I was, I was feeling
[00:06:45] Some kind of way about that. Cause the other, we’re just doing some recon for you for next year. It’s like, yeah, it’s not worth our time or we need to go. It’s like, we need to go back up to
[00:06:54] Chicago. Yeah. Yeah. And I appreciate you doing the work for me, but still, so I, I, I appreciated all the stories and the stuff I heard you guys talk about on the, on the podcast.
[00:07:07] But at the same time, it’s like a double-edged sword. Like I, I really enjoyed listening to the stories, but at the same time, I, it really made me kind of miss, and not angry, but sad that I wasn’t there to, to be part of those, trips with you. But, for sure, when I get home, whenever that hopefully is, October, it’s kind of what we’re looking at right now. I’ll, I’ll gear up for a really, really busy next year.
[00:07:34] So I remember, like I don’t know what brought it up, but I had to call you for something. Right, I talked to you for something. I hadn’t talked to you for quite a while.
[00:07:42] Believe it or not, we are not like talk on the phone friends. We just usually see each other or text or whatever. Phone calls are very far or few and far between. and so I remember talking to you and this has been, I want to say a couple months ago, maybe. And we were, I was, we were kind of talking about, what we’ve been up to and that kind of stuff. And I remember last time when you were gone, you didn’t want to hear any about or anything about what we were doing. And I understand completely, like I get it. And so I, I’ve always like, I, I didn’t text
[00:08:16] You. I didn’t, I wasn’t like, Hey, we just went here, blah, blah, blah. I just kind of let you go. And then I was like, okay, I need to at least reach out and, say hi and all this kind of stuff because it’s rude not to for me, I think. And so we ended up talking and, and I don’t remember, or I don’t know if you remember exactly what you told me, Tommy, but you said something along the lines of, we need to find a way to get me back on the program because I have listened to you guys and you suck without me.
[00:08:47] That’s not exactly what I said, but I mean, I did say something to the effect of,.
[00:08:56] But actually I wanted to hit on your point. So what’s different this time about last time, like the last deployment, when I said, don’t tell me all the cool things you guys are doing. I don’t want to hear it because I didn’t have any access at all last time. Like there were no model airplanes, probably within 1500 miles of where I was at last time. This time it’s a little bit different because I do have, like I said, I do have a couple of airplanes with me so I can hear what you guys are, or, the, the things you guys are doing. and I can
[00:09:29] Kind of in my own way, go out and sort of relive, oh, these guys went and flew today. Oh, probably after work, I can fly my Eltrex and feel like I’m kind of still part of the team for lack of other. If that makes sense. So that, that’s sort of the difference this time is I actually can do some flying with you guys, even if it’s, remotely. And then, yeah, I did, I did, I did mention how, how the episodes seemed somewhat thin. I’ll just leave it like that. A lackluster.
[00:10:02] Cause we got nothing. And I totally get it. I mean, the three of us, when we, when we like when I was home, we like, we would go everywhere. The three of us or more, Daniel would join us or maybe Daniel and Reggie would be there or, whoever, but like we could kind of commiserate on an outing. So we would have lots to talk about when it’s just the two of you guys. And if none of you are crashing, there’s really not a lot to talk about.
[00:10:31] Well, since you say that, that’s ironic. There’s been some crashing. You like that segue. Yeah, that was nice. But we’ll get into that in a little bit. Unless you’ve been crashing. Tell me all about your mistakes, please.
[00:10:42] I don’t have an outline in front of me. Like I normally do when I’m there. So I don’t know what, what you’re planning on talking about.
[00:10:51] But no, actually no crashing. I have, well, I mean, I guess if you want to call, bouncing the Ulteryx, on its nose, multiple times crashing, I guess you could say that’s what it’s designed to do. Yeah. It bounces. So now, but no, no crashing. The every airplane that I brought with me, which is two, well, actually three, I have my UMX Conscendo also.
[00:11:15] They are all still flyable and, have not had any repairs done to them. Now I will say the, the 440 that I built, the Valsa, airplane that I built, from the, short kit, that one did suffer a crash. However, it was, it was a storage related crash. It actually fell off of the shelf that I had it kind of stored on in the place I’m living in now. And it broke the tail. So I did have to repair that, but that wasn’t flying related.
[00:11:45] Yeah. Hangar rash doesn’t count. Oh, thank God. I’ve got a ton of that.
[00:11:52] It happens. Yeah. Actually not, not that much to be honest with you, but, well, I think like, honestly, since the last time we recorded, we went flying once and that is all really that I have to discuss. we’ve been doing other things, but not like RC airplane related.
[00:12:13] Sure. Well, I could talk about like, some of the stuff I, that I have actually gotten to do. Facebook marketplace is actually a thing here where I’m at also. So I’ve, I’ve bought a number of, new in the box, ARPs, off the, off the face spaces. And, I did manage to get one of them assembled. It’s another, cap, which I have this thing about caps for some reason. All of a sudden. Yeah. Now I own two of them. I’ve got the, the Samson one that I got at, Joe Null or I’m sorry, at Toledo. And then this one, anyway, got it put together
[00:12:47] And maidened it actually last weekend. and it flies great. so I have built some airplanes and I’ve flown and maidened and, flown subsequently after the maiden, if that makes sense. They survived the maiden is what I’m trying to say. Yeah. So, so I’ve been doing that. So I have been, assembling airplanes and building airplanes and things like that. So unfortunately I’m trying to recall everything I’ve done for this one episode over the last seven months. And it’s been quite a lot actually. Well, I mean, you knew we were
[00:13:20] Going to do this for like the last three weeks. So maybe, I don’t know, write a couple of things
[00:13:24] Down. Yeah, I probably should have. I probably should have created my spreadsheet too. Cause or my flying spreadsheet. Cause yeah, I don’t know exactly how many flights I have for this year so far, but like I said, I estimate it to be around 25, which is not bad. No. Considered. Yeah. Not at all. Sounds good. So tell me all about what you guys have been
[00:13:49] Doing. Well, go ahead. Should we tell them about Toledo? Cause we went to Toledo this year. So Toledo was fun. we missed you. And I will say, we had Reggie, we really
[00:14:01] Needed you. He didn’t, he didn’t buy anything. He bought some carbon fiber rods and I think some screws. Yeah. Yeah. That’s all he bought. So we needed you to push them over the edge because apparently Ron and I cannot do that. Really? Yeah. That’s strange. And I tried.
[00:14:19] It’s usually fairly easy to get Reggie to buy stuff. He was tight this year. Maybe he’s at a
[00:14:25] Point where he’s, he’s got enough maybe. Well, he said he’s going to be buying at least one table next year and taking a bunch of stuff with him. So I think tomorrow, not tomorrow, I mean next year is going to be a big, Toledo trip for us. Hopefully we will all have stuff to get rid
[00:14:41] Of. Yeah. I just got, yeah, I know I will. And like, like I said, I, I bought a lot of stuff here. Yeah. to actually take to Toledo. So I would have stuff to sell. Cause I was
[00:14:53] Kind of out of stuff last time we went. Well, and that’s what I was, I was, so I’ve been looking around this year, the stuff I’ve been flying and stuff after Toledo. And I was kind of thinking the same thing. Like I usually buy planes throughout the year and then move them all or get rid of them ones. I don’t like at Toledo and I’m looking around and I have a lot of airplanes still that I haven’t purchased recently, but that can probably go. And as I’m going through and flying different airplanes that I haven’t flown for a while, I’m kind of realizing that this plane’s okay,
[00:15:26] But it’s not necessary to keep. I would rather have more room and maybe a nicer airplane instead of this. Right. So I think I’ll, without purchasing any this year, I shall still have probably 10 or
[00:15:43] So that I can easily get rid of next year. Yeah. I don’t really have a whole lot I want to get rid
[00:15:49] Of, but I will force myself to get rid of. Yeah. Like, well, I bought the, when Dave and I went up to the, was it the Fox Valley or whatever swap meet it was? I bought the, the new bigger version of the twin otter. cause I, yeah, but I flew it this last weekend and it’s like, eh, it flies good, but it’s not, it’s not exciting. Kind of like the difference between the UMX
[00:16:17] Ulteryx and the big Ulteryx. Like in my opinion, I don’t think the big Ulteryx flies as fun for lack
[00:16:23] Of a better way of explaining it. I’m real close to getting rid of my big Ulteryx cause I never fly
[00:16:28] It. Yeah. I got rid of mine this year at Toledo. Right. See? Yeah. And I was in the two,
[00:16:35] Otters then. Is it kind of like that? I’m sorry. I talked over you a little bit and hear what you
[00:16:40] Said. Oh, so is the difference between the two otters, like the big one and the small one, is it kind of like the difference between the Ulteryx?
[00:16:48] The Ulteryx I? I’m going to say no. I never flew the smaller twin otter, like the original one, the 1.2 meter, I think is what it was. I never flew that one on gear. That was solely purchased for Jonon, to fly on the, on the pond. And that’s, that’s the only place that’s ever been flown. Now I bought this one, like the bigger one to replace as my, my float plane. but I don’t have floats for it. So I have to purchase those separately. And they were out of them last time
[00:17:20] I looked like you couldn’t, yeah, you were having trouble getting them. Yeah. And like, I, I can’t quite decide if maybe next year for Jonal, instead of just using that as a float plane, maybe get something better. Or, I mean, like I still have the, the big hangar nine cub with floats, but maybe something a little bit more high performance float plane style. Does that make sense?
[00:17:46] It does. I mean, I’ve thought the cub flew great on floats. It did. Absolutely. But I think like at
[00:17:53] This point I’ve flown the OMP Bighorn several times now, and that is a great flying airplane. Now I know if you had floats on an airplane like that, it wouldn’t, wouldn’t fly the same, wouldn’t be as fun, but something along those lines, I think would make a better float plane for me. Something that has a little bit more throw, something that can flip around more. I don’t know what yet, but a little more performance than, yeah. With the stock cub or the, yeah. beaver,
[00:18:22] Not beaver. yeah. Like maybe a stick or something like that. Maybe it could be. Yeah. I enjoyed my
[00:18:28] Stick on the floats. Yeah. But I don’t want to do nitro. Oh, I know. I know. We all know. But yeah, so that’s, that’s kind of my thought on that one. Like I said, I, I bought that specifically for Jonal again, flew it and it’s, it’s a good airplane. It flies well, but it’s just kind of boring to be honest. Okay. I understand. It’s an otter. Yeah. And I guess that’s the thing too. Like if I set expectations and realize this is what it’s supposed to be, maybe it’s
[00:18:59] Not as bad, but I’m trying to fly it more scale. See how scale you can fly it versus
[00:19:05] Aerobatic. Yeah. But just on the gear, it does nothing for me. Like maybe I’ll see what,
[00:19:10] If you want to do aerobatics, get the flex version of that and you can put that on floats.
[00:19:14] Too. Yeah. But if I’m going to spend that much money, I don’t necessarily want to fall me. I understand. That’s I know it’s, it’s so weird, but I don’t know. No, it’s not weird.
[00:19:25] I mean it used to be weird, Like we used to talk about how weird it was to spend so much money on foam aerophants- but it’s not weird anymore. I mean, yeah, I know what I mean.
[00:19:35] I, I, I kind of think going, like I said, with this, with this bighorn, it has kind of, I don’t want to say opened my eyes, but kind of brought me back to Balsa and how, how good that flies. I mean, like it, it is a very well-behaved high performance airplane for what it is. Yeah. Change your gear out and you’re good to go. Yeah. And I think that’s, that’s the thing that’s kind of drawn me back to something along those lines.
[00:20:02] Well, there’s lots of options out there, right? I mean, like there’s so many good airplanes out there now that like the bighorn that to me, like I, I haven’t seen you fly it, but I’ve heard you talk about flying it and it, it sounds like amazing. And there’s a lot of other airplanes out there in that size range Balsa that probably fly, similarly.
[00:20:24] Yeah. Yeah. I’m excited for you to fly that when you get home. I think you’re going to like
[00:20:28] Get a lot. Yeah. Well, hopefully speaking of being home, I’m, I’m hoping to make a trip sometime in August home for maybe a week. They’re going to, they’re going to give us some downtime after some other stuff that’s going on here. So I’m hoping, I don’t have dates yet, but when I get those dates, we’ll, we’ll definitely have to hook up and maybe
[00:20:48] Try to fly. Yeah, absolutely. I would like that. Of course, the hottest time of the year,
[00:20:54] But that’s okay. It’s okay. I can’t, I can’t help that. He’s used to it. He’s out in the
[00:20:58] Desert. He is. I’m not. Right. we’ve got humidity though. He won’t be using the
[00:21:03] Humidity now. Yeah. Right. but anyway, on the plus side, I think we got beans this year. Yeah. I noticed that cause I had to, yeah, I noticed that cause I had to walk out
[00:21:16] In them. Oh yeah, that’s right. Somebody did go for a walk. Yeah. It was on, it worked out
[00:21:22] Well for me though. Well, I guess you want to go straight into that then. Yes. That’s fine.
[00:21:27] Go ahead and continue on your line of thought. We’ll get back to it. Tommy’s like, yeah,
[00:21:30] Let’s do it. Okay. So I am Ron’s crash stories. I’m just saying one more time. What Ron’s crash stories. I said, I’m all about listening to Ron’s crash stories. I’m just saying I’m
[00:21:45] Sure. So I think I’ve noticed by the way, that if I talk over you for some reason, it garbles you and then like cuts you out, like takes you out. So sorry if I ask you to repeat yourself
[00:21:57] A couple of times, but that’s why. No worries. I’ll just wait till you’re done talking at.
[00:22:03] Least in my ear. Okay. So, unfortunately, yes, I am down an airplane and unfortunately I am down an airplane that I really, really liked. The only saving grace is the fact that this airplane was cheap for what airplanes are. and I will probably be replacing it.
[00:22:24] I almost ordered one already, but I haven’t. What did that crash you ask? Well, I crashed my X-Fly F-18 Hornet. Oh, womp womp. Yeah. I gave you time to say that. Yeah. That went down good. So completely my fault. And looking back on what happened, I shall now tell my tale and realize what I did wrong. So this is an airplane that I didn’t realize, but haven’t flown for two years. it has been a hanger queen that has hung up downstairs in my basement
[00:22:58] For the last two years. And as I was getting ready to go out to the field, I was like, I remember I liked the way that plane flew. I’m going to take it with me. So I did. Now what happened? so I, okay. So I always do my pre-flights and all that kind of stuff.
[00:23:21] And I checked the AS3X. It was moving more than I thought it should. But in my mind, it’s like, okay, well, I haven’t flown this plane for two years. Maybe that’s how it was. I have a three position switch set up. One says AS3X off, AS3X on and safe. I don’t remember setting safe up on this airplane at all. but it’s still, that was what the switches showed and what they were set up for. I did scroll through them and noticed the gains were the same with AS3X
[00:23:57] On and AS3X off. So then in my mind, I’m like, well, okay, then I must not have, I must have liked how it flew. So I just left it on without, finalizing the switch and all that stuff. So that was not the case, by the way. So I launch it, throw it, and then it just starts rolling back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. I mean, 45 degrees and then 45 degrees back, like a total of like almost 90 degrees going back and forth. Good strong oscillation.
[00:24:29] Very big oscillation. So I’m trying to fly this and I’m trying to get to myself some altitude and trying to get it to turn. And I’m just, I’m having a huge problem getting it to make a curve to, where it can kind of come back to where I can get into a pattern and think this through. So as it’s still flying away from me and oscillating, I’m turning the gains down on the switch that I always have gains set up on, which it’s the same for almost apparently every airplane. It’s not making any difference. I can’t, I can’t figure out,
[00:25:01] How to, how to calm it down. So as I’m trying to turn, and kind of bring it back. So it’s going, kind of back towards me. I flipped apparently upside down, which I didn’t realize that when I tried to pull up, it just nose dived straight into the beans now this year at a high rate of speed at a high rate of speed because I wasn’t planning on crashing. So I wasn’t like, taking the throttle down or anything like that to stop it. So Piper and I, Piper was out with me. So Piper and I made the trek a good, probably
[00:25:34] Thousand feet, if not more out into the field. It was out there. You don’t realize how far away it is until you get out there and turn around and look at the people that look like that are the size of ants way back where the pits are. so we made the walk of shame back with the airplane. And as I’m walking by Dave, he’s like, what happened? And I said, well, I crashed. And I, he said, well, it doesn’t look that bad. And I said, well, I’m over it.
[00:26:04] Would you like this? So Dave is now the proud new owner of a crashed F-18 Hornet. that just, I, there’s no way I could hang that up anymore because of the way it looks. So I was over it. I ripped my receiver out and gave Dave the airplane. So hindsight being 2020.
[00:26:25] When I said, I think that was one of the first airplanes I set up, using safe or not safe using AS3X and all that kind of stuff with, I think it was a AR637TA or something transmitter or receiver way too much receiver for that. It was a way overkill. I would say, yeah, that’s way too much receiver for that airplane. Yeah. $150 receiver and $160 airplane.
[00:26:50] But anyway, that was what I had sitting around when I did that one. So when I went through first time set up from what I can, what I can tell going back, rewinding what happened, I think what happened is that one was set up to where the gains were on the rotary knob and not the switch that I have since then used religiously on all the airplanes I’ve set up.
[00:27:17] So I set that airplane up before I had the little lesson from Miguel on the proper way of setting him up and why you use those switches as opposed to the rotary knob. and so that is what got me. I should not have flown, but like I said, it had been a couple of years since I flown that thing. So I thought it should have been set up. Right. So I figured that’s what the throws are.
[00:27:41] It worked the last time you flew it. Why wouldn’t it work this time?
[00:27:43] Yeah. So that all happens so fast, so fast.
[00:27:48] They usually do. Yeah. Yeah. So you’re, so normally you use the trimmer, right? For your gain?
[00:27:55] Correct.
[00:27:56] Yeah. And you had it on the rotary and the gains were just way too high and you couldn’t turn them
[00:28:00] Down because you forgot. I was trying to turn the wrong switch down. Yeah.
[00:28:05] Well, what I mean is, yeah, you forgot which switch it was. So you were using the switch you,
[00:28:09] Yeah, I see what happened. Yeah. So this, this being set up so long ago was before I, like I said, got the lesson from Miguel on how to properly set these up. And I just didn’t even think to before you standardize your switches and knobs.
[00:28:23] Right. And I mean, honestly, like that plane flew amazingly when I flew it last time. So I think I was also shocked when I threw it and I was like, well, this isn’t right. What the heck is going on? Right. Yeah. Yeah. So oopsie. Well, it’s all patched back together. It is currently
[00:28:39] Flyable, but it’s, it’s just in, of course it is. It’s just in primer right now.
[00:28:44] I mean, is that a surprise really that Dave has it ready to go?
[00:28:47] No, I knew that if it wasn’t given to Dave, I was going to throw it away. And I knew the only person that would do anything with it and actually fly it again is Dave.
[00:28:57] Yep. I almost thought about flying it before I actually paint it again. You should. Yeah. Just to make sure.
[00:29:03] Just to make sure nothing else got mucked up or no,.
[00:29:07] Not finding any unknown damage.
[00:29:09] Yeah. Like you want to make sure all the servos work or, I mean, make sure the airflow is right over. So it doesn’t over. I mean, I don’t know, but yeah,
[00:29:16] Give it a flight. It flies really good. Yeah. So like I said, it’s, it’s primer. It’s close. I’m waiting on a new set of decals to come in. So fly it before you do that. Yeah. Yeah. You learned that from your F-16. Yep. Which is, it’s flyable now. I got to fly it finally.
[00:29:33] Dave, you have an F-16?
[00:29:34] Yeah. I got a Hobby King F-16. I picked up for 40 bucks at, where was it? I thought I sent you pictures of that. It’s got the, Springfield tail.
[00:29:45] Oh, that’s right. You did. Yep. Now I remember. I’m going through my pictures now looking.
[00:29:50] Yeah. what was it? Was that Wisconsin? Yeah, that was Wisconsin. Beloit. That was in Beloit. Okay. picked it up for 40 bucks, complete with a battery, gyro, receiver. I mean, ready to fly.
[00:30:06] That’s a good, a good swap mate, Tommy. We’ll hit that one next year. Okay. we did it last year with you.
[00:30:13] Yeah, I did a complete and total repaint on it and we took it out to fly it two weeks ago. I got a good toss of it. The guy that tossed it for me did a really good job.
[00:30:23] It was not me.
[00:30:25] I just could not get the nose to come up. It was just in a long glide and it ended up. One of the elevators servos had quit working and found out there was a junction block inside the fuselage that I didn’t even know existed. The servo had come unstuck from the junction block.
[00:30:43] And of course he did his pre-flight checks. Yeah, and everything was fine. But it was when the, the plane got flung so hard as a launch, it must have come undone then.
[00:30:51] Yeah. It must’ve been just, just making contact, but not, not making contact. Yeah. and I just couldn’t get it to go up. ended up doinking it a little bit, cracked a little bit of paint on it. Not a big deal. I’m going to get all that patched up here, but I didn’t patch it until after I flew it again, taking it out and flown it again last weekend. I’ve got two flights on it. it’s a bit difficult to launch. It drops like a rock when you first throw it.
[00:31:17] It’s only a plane I’ve ever, I’ve figured it out now. I hold full up elevator in it when somebody throws it. Doesn’t seem right in my head, but that’s the way it flies. And then as it picks up speed, you ease off the elevator. I went ahead and moved the linkage rod down, or up one hole on the elevator. So I’m getting a little bit more elevator throw. So it’s probably not going to need full up elevator on the next launch, but I’ll be ready just in case.
[00:31:48] It also fell on the, on the surface itself. I went up one, so it’s closer. Yeah. It’s maxed out, I think on the, servo. So it had to go up on the, control surface. it also felt a little sluggish in a turn, when you pull it around side and you start pulling for your turn, it felt like I had to add more elevator than I thought I should. So a little extra throw is going to go a long way.
[00:32:15] It did have the factory set up what they recommended. And it seems like that’s a little sluggish in my book. Although the ailerons felt really good. it looks good in flight. can’t complain about it. So now that I’ve got it flying good, I’m going to patch up a little bit of paint boo-boo it had on it from the learning how to fly it. And we’re going to be good, but yeah, it looks good.
[00:32:36] What, battery do you fly that one with?
[00:32:38] It’s a four cell 1300, I think is what came with it. It’s either 13 or 1500.
[00:32:44] It’s a weird one.
[00:32:45] Yeah. It barely fits underneath the canopy.
[00:32:48] Yeah.
[00:32:49] And it gets a good long flight time on it. I think I was getting well. I’ve set the timer for five minutes. I’m coming back with juice.
[00:32:54] So at five minutes, that’s a crazy for an EDF. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:32:59] I don’t think I’d push it much past that, but, I am coming back with juice in it.
[00:33:04] So, well, you’re not flying full throttle either, are you?
[00:33:06] No, it’s almost with jets. It’s really hard for me not to, cause you want to go fast with a jet.
[00:33:11] Yeah. Yes.
[00:33:13] Yeah. But, but yeah, it flies really, really nice now that we figured out how to launch it. so can’t wait to get more flight time on that, especially with a little more elevator throw.
[00:33:24] Does the receiver that you have in that? Does it have the? I don’t. I forgive me if you said which receiver it is, but does it have the? The hand launch mode option.
[00:33:33] It does not. it is one of the generic, spectrum bricks. What’s, what’s the little sugar cube looking one?
[00:33:43] Like the AR 400 or something?
[00:33:44] It’s a six channel, but it’s.
[00:33:46] Oh, like a 630 or a 631?
[00:33:49] Yeah. It’s just that little brick looking, little, the big sugar cube looking thing.
[00:33:53] Okay. No. So that the 630 has AS3X on it. So I assume this has nothing.
[00:33:59] Yeah. It has nothing. It has the, factory gyro from Hobby King.
[00:34:02] Probably the old AR 600 then, I think.
[00:34:04] Yeah. It works good, but it has no frills in it.
[00:34:07] Yeah.
[00:34:08] Yeah. That sounds like the receiver I bought for the 440 that I, that I got. It was just like, I think it was like 49 bucks, six channel, little square.
[00:34:15] Yeah. No antennas.
[00:34:17] Yep. Yep. I know what you’re talking about.
[00:34:19] Yeah. I actually kind of like those little receivers.
[00:34:22] Yeah. They’re decent. They’re not, they’re not having any 3X or anything. They’re, they’re fairly inexpensive and they, they work really really.
[00:34:27] And no antennas to worry about. They’re just there.
[00:34:30] You got to be careful though. Cause those are for small airplanes. They’re not for anything big. That’s going to fly farther away. Cause they don’t have the receiving power. cause the antennas are internal.
[00:34:41] It’s worked so far. Yeah. Small airplane though. Yeah. You don’t fly a Reggie style. I never fly Reggie style.
[00:34:49] I don’t know. I’ve got one of those in that 440 and I- I mean that’s a regular what I would call a 40 sized nitro powered airplane, and it’s done really, really well. I haven’t had any well. I mean, I kind of religiously checked the screen when I’m done flying but I don’t recall seeing very many frame losses or anything. I’m not showing any holds or frame losses.
[00:35:08] Frame losses are okay. Holds. You don’t want.
[00:35:11] Yeah. Everything’s zero, zero. It’s all, it’s always been good. Cool. Anyway, so that’s a little F-16 and we flies it really nice and looking forward to fly it with the F-18 once I get it up and running.
[00:35:24] Which will be sooner rather than later. Hopefully.
[00:35:28] Yeah. Like I said, it can fly right now. I don’t have the nose cone for it. I could have patched up the factory nose cone, but it was so bent that, it would have taken a lot of time to get it relatively straight. So for nine bucks, I just ordered a new one. I gave up.
[00:35:45] Yeah. You’ll probably have that one ready to fly and finished and beautiful before I order my, replacement.
[00:35:51] Probably. Random thought, Dave. Yeah. The pneumatic tires that we’re putting on our timbers, I think you’ve got one on your, Tundra.
[00:36:00] Oh, yeah. What is that? It’s, the, Super Cub.
[00:36:05] Or Super Cub. Excuse me.
[00:36:06] Yeah. I killed my Tundra a couple of years ago.
[00:36:09] Oh, that’s right.
[00:36:10] It caught fire in flight.
[00:36:13] What? I don’t remember that story.
[00:36:16] Yeah. It, no fire to be seen while I was flying it. I was, I was pushing the aircraft really hard, doing a lot of rolls. And inverted snaps. And I was pushing the airframe pretty hard. and I came roaring around the field, full throttle, going away from us. And it was turning back onto the field and it just plowed into the ground at full throttle. I just, all of a sudden it just like, it turned off.
[00:36:41] It took us a while to find it, because it was one of those really, really hot days- ended up borrowing a agricultural zone drone and was able to find it a little further out than I thought it would be.
[36:56] UNKNOWN: Yeah.[00:36:57] Apparently when it went below the corn, it just kept going in a straight line. anyway, we brought it back and, there was a lot of burnt and smoke damage. In fact, I lost all the electronics in the airplane. There was nothing electronic that was salvageable out of the aircraft whatsoever. A lot of burnt foam. the batteries were trashed. They had melted. it wasn’t a battery fire.
[00:37:19] The batteries themselves were fine, but like the shrink wrap and the wiring and all that was all charred. yeah, so yeah, the, the big Tundra speed control was completely shot. It was, it was just cinder. that’s actually what started the whole thing. I believe is the, speed control went up in smoke and, I guess the regulation went out. So then it dumped, 22 volts into the servos and the motor and did a lot of damage.
[00:37:50] Like I said, I didn’t salvage anything out of the airplane. The only thing I think I’d salvage was a tail wheel. Yeah.
[00:37:56] Well, I didn’t mean to bring up a sad story, but anyway, the, the pneumatic tires that were, that we bought, to put on our bush type planes. Yep. Have you had any trouble like getting yours to hold air?
[00:38:09] Mine have never leaked down. I know yours went flat when we’re flying in the snow or not the snow, whatever, whatever you were doing with it in the cold. Oh yeah.
[00:38:17] It wasn’t, it wasn’t the snow. It’s like all the time. It doesn’t matter what the weather is.
[00:38:20] Mine have never gone flat. last January, when we were flying, with our friend from out of the country, mine were very, very low on pressure because it was quite cold out. but they have puffed back up since they warmed back up. So as I put them back in the truck and they warmed up, they puffed back up. I keep low pressure on my tires to start with.
[00:38:44] So, yeah, I know that’s when mine go flat is when I try to keep them at low pressure. They’ll, they’ll maintain some pressure if I kind of overpressurize them. So I’m wondering if I bought some of that, not slime, but they make a product that’s kind of like slime for, cyclists.
[00:39:00] And they’re that, that bicycle slime. I can’t remember what it’s called, but it’s some sort of snot or something. I can’t remember. But yeah, that’s a definitely a good thought. I would think that might help you out quite a bit. I bet your hubs are leaking.
[00:39:14] Yeah, probably. I thought they were just like, well, I don’t know what I thought they were. I thought they were just like O-rings essentially that were hollow that were just, stretched over a hub. But apparently not. They actually have a bead.
[00:39:26] Yeah. Like a donut.
[00:39:27] Yeah. Right. Exactly.
[00:39:29] Yeah. I think it’s, it’s almost like a, a clamping style wheel.
[00:39:33] Yeah. Okay. Well, anyway, I’m going to try some of that stuff to see if I can, cause I, I got it out last weekend to try to, I wanted to fly because I had that other plane I wanted to maiden. And I pulled out of its storage location and both tires were flat. I’m like, geez.
[00:39:47] I’d be careful in your location. I’d be more worried about, cactus spines.
[00:39:52] Well, I mean, I try not to fly into cactus.
[00:39:56] Yeah. But they’re going to end up on your runway and in your pits. And I don’t know what your situation looks like. They’re not in my pits.
[00:40:04] They’d be painful.
[40:05] UNKNOWN: Yeah.[00:40:05] I, that would be really bad. when I worked in the shop, I had a guy bring me a truck that he’d been running in Arizona and I couldn’t really touch the darn thing. Cause every time I touched it, something was poking me.
[00:40:16] Okay. Well, I’ll check them over a bit. Usually the runways here are fairly clear because they, it’s so windy here. It keeps all the debris blown off of them. Good. Anyway.
[00:40:30] So, yeah, yeah. I’m thinking that slime stuff might help you out quite a bit. And I know yours have been way worse than mine about losing air. I only put air in mine once in the over a year that we’ve had those.
[00:40:41] Yeah. I have to air them up before almost every flight. They, they go down that, or one of them goes down that quickly. And it did that day I put it on since it was brand new.
[00:40:51] Yeah. You had the one wheel went flat. It was January 1st. and you had the one wheel went flat.
[00:40:56] Yep. And I like to run them almost flat because it, I don’t, as it’s kind of difficult to land a turbo timber evolution without bouncing it. So running, running low pressure in the tires helped absorb, that impact on landing and kept it from bouncing.
[00:41:10] And I found that too, is the lower the pressure I put in them, the better they perform.
[00:41:14] Right. Exactly. And that’s where I like to keep them, but mine don’t like to stay there.
[00:41:20] Let me know how that works out in case mine develops an issue.
[00:41:23] Okay. Yeah. I’ll try to maybe find something this weekend and fix that.
[00:41:28] Yeah. There’s gotta be a bike shop somewhere around you.
[00:41:31] That reminds me, I actually do have a, well, it’s not really a crash, more of a mishap. I would say. So I’ll just get right in it. so I, after I got here, I got here in, what was it? October and really the first weekend I had kind of off to do anything was probably second weekend of November, probably something like that. Anyway, still pretty fresh, just fresh from home. So I was still, not rusty.
[00:42:01] I had some experience in flying that was recent. So I went to the field here with the turbo timber evolution and, was gonna dazzle everybody with my skills and, I took off and did one lap around the field, to make sure the trim was good and make sure everything was fine because we’re in a different environment. So you never know.
[00:42:24] I made one lap and then I thought, okay, well, I’m going to roll this thing upside down and show these guys what a cool flat spin this thing does. And I don’t know what, I mean, obviously it was me, not the airplane, but I rolled it over and, pushed forward on the stick. So I’m upside down, push forward on the stick to, to get it to climb. And then I do the cool little pop top thing at the top, with the sticks kind of mashed into the center and up.
[00:42:49] And it did that. And then I guess I lost orientation. And as it was coming down and rolled it inverted, and then I think I was going to try to roll it back over. And before I knew it, the thing was on the ground, like upside down on the ground and the ground here, if you’re not over the runway, it’s gravel.
[00:43:09] And so you’re flying over sandpaper.
[00:43:11] Yeah. It’s gravel, dirt, cacti, whatever. So I’m not exactly sure what I did. I mean, obviously I got crossed up, upside down or whatever, but it actually was completely horizontal when it, when it finally impacted the ground, it didn’t break anything actually, didn’t even break the propeller.
[00:43:33] And I was on the throttle when it, cause I was going to, I remember I was trying to push up to recover, to gain out, cause like I said, it was upside down, but anyway, the top of the wing, imagine taking a piece of four by eight foam. that two inch thick insulation and placing that on say two grit sandpaper and then just rubbing it like back and forth. Imagine what that would look like.
[00:44:02] That’s what the top of my wing looks like.
[00:44:04] Yeah. That’s exactly what the top of my wing looks like, but it still flies good.
[00:44:10] Just throw some duct tape over it. It’ll be fine.
[00:44:12] All because I wanted to wow the, the local locals with my expert flying skills. So needless to say, that was the last flight of the day. Actually, that was the only flight of the day I packed up and went home with my tail between my legs.
[00:44:26] Well, you sure impressed them. I’m sure.
[00:44:29] Yeah. Luckily I didn’t tell anybody who I was or I didn’t like use myself to anybody. So it’s been enough time now since I’ve been to that particular location that I don’t
[00:44:37] Think they remember that. Sorry.
[00:44:39] And just, they don’t want to associate it with me.
[00:44:43] Just wondering if you got yourself in an inverted flat spin, just had no airflow or the surfaces to recover from.
[00:44:49] Oh no, it wasn’t spinning. Like it was, it was great and level wide open upside down. And like I said, when I recovered from the flippity do that I did, when it recovered, I was, I mean, I was a lot closer, obviously than I thought I was. It was probably like two or three feet. And then, yeah, for whatever reason, I didn’t push up on the stick in enough time before the thing just drove right into the ground.
[00:45:12] Kind of like I did with, I think that was your stick, Ron, that I did that too, wasn’t.
[00:45:17] It? Yeah. When you said, Hey, watch this.
[00:45:19] Hey, watch this. Yeah. Same thing.
[00:45:21] And I watched.
[00:45:22] And yeah. Yeah. Luckily the damaged beer stick wasn’t nearly as much as the damaged turbo timber. It looks really kind of cool. Actually. I call it my beater now. Cause it, it looks like a beater.
[00:45:34] So you, you have this history of doing this with airplanes then is what I’m hearing.
[00:45:40] That’s what it sounds like. Doesn’t it?
[00:45:42] We’re going to have to name the stunt.
[00:45:44] The Tom.
[00:45:46] I don’t do the Tom.
[00:45:48] Don’t Tom it into the ground. Oh, Tom it.
[00:45:53] Huh?
[00:45:55] Well, still, I, I don’t think I’m quite up to Reggie level, but I’m, I’m getting there.
[00:46:00] Nobody is. And nobody should be.
[00:46:02] And they shouldn’t be. Exactly.
[00:46:04] Tis a goal. Nobody wants to have.
[00:46:07] Exactly.
[00:46:08] And he’s got that 90 millimeter F 22.
[00:46:11] It’s like, oh, that won’t last long. It’s okay.
[00:46:14] Like, I wonder why they could trade for it before or after. I saw a video like damage.
[00:46:21] Somebody posted. Was it on our, on our local clubs? Facebook page, maybe where he was flying his, the Airbus, I think. Oh yeah. Yeah.
[00:46:31] The Airbus out there.
[00:46:32] Yeah. That was last weekend.
[00:46:33] Like he was, he was low right over the runway, wide open. That looked like, oh yeah, cool. And then like the few days later, I see he posted something that, he forgot to, I mean, it was a dumb mistake. Let’s be honest. He forgot to latch a wing or something like that.
[00:46:47] On one of his, that was on one of the aerobatic ones. He’s done that twice now. what plane was that? It was a cap or an extra or something.
[00:46:55] Yeah. Yeah.
[00:46:57] But yeah, it’s twice now. He’s forgot to latch the wing. First time it was minor damage. The second one, it tore it up pretty good.
[00:47:06] Yeah. This one, I was going to say, it looks, looks like it’s, I mean, it’s, looks repairable, but it, I mean, the cost of the parts and the labor, I mean, I think you’d probably be better off starting with it.
[00:47:15] So far it’s not arrived at my house. I’m just waiting now.
[00:47:19] It’s just a matter of time before you end up with it, Dave.
[47:22] UNKNOWN: Yeah.[00:47:24] Well, that was an extreme flight. So that’s probably going to be one where you just need to replace it. Yeah. Honestly.
[00:47:29] Yeah. They’re so lightly built. Yeah. I mean, I get it, but yeah, those are hard to repair.
[00:47:34] Yeah. But no, he did have, he put the, that Airbus together out at the field. And I was actually very surprised how many pieces that came in because usually e-flight airplanes are pretty, pretty quick assemblies. and that one was not, it, it took quite a while, but it looks very good. I mean, they’re cool looking airplanes when the gear is up. I don’t like the gear down.
[00:47:58] Got weird looking gear.
[00:47:59] Yeah, it sure does. But, no, yeah, it looked good. He was flying a little off center on the runway. made me, yeah, made me take a couple steps back a couple times. Cause I was like, Oh God, what? cause that one’s going to hurt. It’s big enough. It’ll leave a mark. but no, he was doing a great job with it.
[00:48:19] It’s kind of the opposite of what Reggie normally does. It was two plus. Normally it’s a hundred miles away.
[00:48:23] Yeah. That’s why I took a step back just in case. Just in case.
[00:48:28] It sounds good too.
[00:48:29] Mm-hmm.
[00:48:30] It’s got a good.
[00:48:30] Yeah. It sounded good in the video.
[00:48:33] Yeah.
[48:34] UNKNOWN: Yeah.[00:48:34] Yeah. That was a, that was the day. Yeah. That was the same day. So I, I don’t know, Tommy, if you remember, I bought, it’s been three years ago and E-Flight Mystique, one of the, the big, gliders. I don’t know if you remember that one.
[00:48:51] Yeah.
[00:48:52] So, I did look up and I didn’t realize I bought it three years ago, but yeah, so I bought it three years ago, finally spent the time to get it together. And, so this is put together a little bit differently than any airplane I’ve had before. And I, I was, so when I first, when I first just bound it and was hoping to not do anything difficult with the airplane, to get it ready to go, I had it set up. I’m trying to think what it was.
[00:49:24] I didn’t have the flaps set up right. and so they weren’t set up as flaps. They were set up as a regular, servo or a control surface thing. And it overextended them one way and it broke the, the servos off of the, the plate, which turns out the servos are literally just epoxy to the plate. There’s no screws, nothing that holds those on because there’s really no room. It’s such a thin wing.
[00:49:49] There’s no structure there.
[00:49:50] Right. and apparently that’s what the directions say to do. So, I mean, that’s how it’s supposed to be put together. But anyway, so I went through and I don’t, I think the plane came out in like 2012. So because of that, anyway, so because of that, I, ended up going through to make sure all the epoxy and stuff was good on the, where the servos were in and I broke all four of them off the two. Well, no, that was a good thing after I did the one.
[00:50:25] So I broke the one or I actually, I’m sorry. I broke the two of them three years ago when I first got it. And then I just hung it up and forgot about it. This time I got it out and it was like, I knew that had already come off, but I wanted to check the other ones to make sure that the epoxy was still good, which it wasn’t. So I epoxied those back in, and got everything set up, right. Finally, three or four hours of work on it and went out to the field.
[00:50:48] So this is, if you’re not familiar with the Mystique, it is a, full glider. I mean, it’s a powered glider has obviously retracts, ailerons, full fledged control surfaces and all that kind of stuff. 114 inch wingspan. and tell me you would like it because it’s transparent on the center of the wings. But anyway, so it’s weird too, because it’s a very tight fit. Like the wings are very tight fitting on it and it’s held on with tape.
[00:51:23] Like you’re just supposed to tape it on with electrical tape is all that those are supposed to use. And then the stab, it’s a full flying stab. And that is literally just press fit on the, on the wing spar or on the spar that goes through the, the stab. So, I mean, like you can pull them off. So I was very concerned about that, but I mean, that’s how it’s supposed to be.
[00:51:47] Everything I read said, I put a little bit of glue on the end of it, just kind of give it a little bit, something more to bite into. So I went through, got all that stuff done, went to fly it. it flies good, but I will say it is hard to see orientation. And I’m hoping it’s only because it was very, overcast that day. I’d like to take it out again sometime when it’s, sunny so I can see.
[00:52:12] But several times I was like, I can’t tell if that’s turning towards me. Is that turning away from me? Am I looking at the top? Am I looking at the bottom? And you’re looking through it and yeah.
[00:52:21] And you’re looking through it.
[00:52:23] So that part I didn’t like. I’m going to have to do something different, maybe on the bottom of the wing than the top of the wing, or I don’t know what yet, but even just a couple of stripes would be helpful.
[00:52:32] A couple of day low green stripes or something.
[00:52:34] Yeah. But it flies great. And it’s going to be fun to spend some more time with that one once, it’s sunny out.
[00:52:42] Yeah. That’s never a good feeling when you, when you can’t determine the orientation of the airplane, except by moving the control sticks to see what direction it goes.
[00:52:50] Yeah. It’s, it’s scary. Like, I mean, it really kind of gets your blood pumping. You’re like, oh my God. And I mean, it’s not like I was even to the point where I was going to crash or anything like that. It’s still, a hundred feet up in the air and 200 feet away from us. And I have plenty of room to make a turn, but you just kind of like freeze and you’re like, okay, hold on deep breath, figure this out. What’s it doing? Yeah. Don’t flip out.
[00:53:12] You have plenty of time wiggle and see which way it goes. Is it coming at me, going away from me? But yeah, I didn’t like that at all. So then the rest of the flight, I’m like, okay, so now I’m turning left. I’m turning left. I’m turning left. I’m turning left. So I’m not going to lose it. I’m turning. I’m turning. I’m turning. Coming towards me. It’s not going away from me. Just over and over in my head and repeating where it is.
[00:53:30] Stick, stick it out.
[00:53:31] Yeah. So, but no, that one flew good too. So after three years, I finally got a maiden out of one.
[00:53:37] It’s a three.
[00:53:38] Yay. Three years. That’s not bad.
[00:53:41] No, it’s the small things, right? That we. Yeah, exactly. We have to celebrate the small wins.
[00:53:47] Yes, you do. So you said that one had retractable. I’m assuming you mean it had spoilers.
[00:53:54] No flaps.
[00:53:55] You said retractable gear.
[00:53:56] Oh, dude, I’m sorry. Yeah, no, no gear. It’s flaps.
[00:54:00] Gotcha.
[00:54:00] Thanks for calling me out on that one.
[00:54:04] Well, you’re welcome. That’s what I do.
[00:54:06] That’s why you’re needed. Keep me honest.
[00:54:09] Yeah. Dave won’t do it.
[00:54:11] I’m scared of him.
[00:54:12] He just let it go. Be like, oh, that’s what he said.
[00:54:14] I didn’t pay. He’s an idiot. I thought maybe it had a retractable monowheel under it or something.
[00:54:19] Oh, I didn’t pay that much attention to you is what he says. Yeah.
[00:54:22] Because I was busy fighting with Daniel’s paramotor.
[00:54:27] Oh, yeah. Daniel brought his paramotor out or his paraglider thing out. And let me tell you what. After watching that, I can definitely say those things are something I do not ever want to own. Like, I thought about it. Like, I thought, what? These are kind of neat. I’ve seen people flying. I’ve seen how cool they are. And then I watch them have nothing but problems. And I’m like, ah, no way.
[00:54:50] Daniel’s is brand new. We were sorting out some issues.
[00:54:52] But, it seems like the problems I’ve seen with those are just during the launch. It seems like once they’re airborne and kind of stabilized, they look like they would be fun.
[00:55:01] They are a blast once they’re airborne. It’s just that launching phase that bad things can happen.
[00:55:08] Who has the launching of them? Reggie has got this figured out. Yeah, Reggie’s got that. He’s got that figured out. Like, he can launch yours, no problem.
[00:55:16] Yet he still won’t fly his. Yeah, he hasn’t even put his together yet.
[00:55:20] What’s he waiting on?
[00:55:21] Probably me to do it.
[00:55:24] That’s probably true.
[00:55:26] Daniel’s has got something wrong with the chute. It wanted to turn left. Left? No, it was turning right all the time. Said it hold a bunch of stick in it. But I think it’s just a matter of getting the shroud figured out that the lines are not quite the right length.
[00:55:42] Yeah, and it wasn’t opening right either.
[00:55:44] Yeah, there was something going on. And then in the process of doing that, I ended up cartwheeling it. And that caused a bunch of tangling issues. The chute itself won’t tangle. But when you get the landing gear flopping around inside of it and twisting around inside it, it’s bad. It’s bad. So we just had to give up on that. He’s got to take it home and do some untangling. We would get one side of the wing completely untangled.
[00:56:08] And the other side of the wing would then have tangles in it and flip back and forth. And anyway, we’ll get it figured out. He was getting frustrated with it. I was getting tired with it. So we’ll fix it. We’ll get it going. And I’ll double check the shroud length. It actually did fly. It flew fairly well. It just kept circling. I ran out of trim and it was having to hold stick in it just to keep it straight.
[00:56:32] Yeah. And then he’s like, here, Daniel, you want to try this? And he’s like, no, not until you fix it.
[00:56:36] And then launching was bad because the chute was wanting to pull to one side during the launch. And that’s a no-no. The chute has to come straight up. If the chute doesn’t come straight up, then you’re asking for trouble.
[00:56:45] Yeah.
[00:56:46] Which we proved.
[00:56:47] Yeah. And that’s one of those things to where you can watch. And when you watch, how it’s supposed to go. And then you notice that whoever is trying to launch it is doing it right, but it’s just not inflating correctly.
[00:56:59] And then we would get a decent launch of it and they would spin the buggy.
[00:57:03] Yeah. Well, that was…
[00:57:05] You can’t spin it like a football.
[00:57:07] Yeah. That was Daniel at least.
[00:57:09] You can’t throw it. You got to just kind of let it go.
[00:57:11] Yeah.
[00:57:13] So there’s some technique to learn in the launch. But the critical part is making sure that chute pops straight up over your head.
[00:57:20] Yep.
[00:57:21] Speaking of launching, Dave, have you fixed the flying wing yet?
[00:57:30] Oh, yes. The flying wing has been fixed and sold.
[00:57:36] That’s good.
[00:57:37] I got $25 out of it.
[00:57:39] It was worth way less than that. So I think you did good.
[00:57:43] $25 worth of tire weights in the nose. It needed a ton of nose weight. It actually flew. It flew okay. I’ve flown much better flying aircraft. And I just didn’t need it. I just didn’t need it. So I ended up taking it up to Wisconsin and sold it to a young man. Oh, I take it back. I got $20 out. I had $25 on it. And he could only come up with $20. It’s like close enough.
[00:58:06] Still $20 more than what it was worth, if you ask me.
[00:58:09] So it’s gone. But I proved the point.
[00:58:12] Speaking of Daniel, I meant to ask, how’s he doing with the whole thing with his arm and wrist?
[00:58:19] Pretty good. I think it was yesterday he had the temporary soft cast taken off and put a hard cast put on. He’s got a nice Frankenstein looking scar from his fingers all the way halfway up his forearm. And apparently they used a redlocked type this time. So hopefully things won’t come loose.
[00:58:40] Yeah. Last time he literally had a screw loose.
[00:58:42] Yeah. A couple. Yeah. The screws and plates came apart. And then I guess where they grafted it or whatever, the cadaver bone came apart. It was a mess.
[00:58:55] He was just dead inside. Yeah.
[00:58:57] Literally.
[00:58:59] Well, I understand. I have dead guy parts in me, too.
[00:59:02] So anyway, he’s got the new hard cast on. It fits the radio better. That’s a plus. I told him he was going to take a radio in with him so when they did the cast that he could hold the radio correctly.
[00:59:14] Nice.
[00:59:17] So he’s got another six weeks, I think it is, before they can take the cast off.
[00:59:24] And then he’ll have a bunch of physical therapy after that, right?
[00:59:27] I’m guessing. I’m not sure. I haven’t heard that end of it yet. Based on the last time there was physical therapy, yeah.
[00:59:35] Usually when something like that is immobile for so long, they have to go through physical therapy to get the range of motion and all that back. So ask me how I know all that. Oh, yeah.
[00:59:44] So how’s those knees, Tom?
[00:59:47] Yeah, exactly. So back to the paramotor. It sounds to me like you just need to take it apart and put it back together.
[00:59:54] Yeah, we just need to strip it down and redo the measurements. It’s, the measure twice, cut once situation. I think we maybe need to measure three or four times. I think that one shroud was too short.
[01:00:08] Yeah, okay.
[01:00:09] We’ll pull it down and we’ll play with it. We got plenty of time.
[01:00:13] Is his the Hobby King one also?
[01:00:15] His is the Hobby King. His is the V2. Mine’s the V1. So his has got the supposedly easier to fly chute. And he’s got the built-in lights. I had to add my own lights.
[01:00:26] Those are fun to fly in. Or they look like they’re fun to fly at night. They are.
[01:00:29] I love that when we had it, Joe and I was flying in the fog. That was so cool. I love flying in the fog.
[01:00:33] That was cool. That looked really cool.
[01:00:37] Speaking of Daniel, by the way.
[01:00:39] Oh, yeah. He had fun, didn’t he?
[01:00:41] So when we were out of the field. And I, so I looked up just at the perfect time. He was flying his slow Ultra Stick. And I looked up as he was kind of making a turn and kind of like coming towards me and then like flipping around to go down the runway. And as I looked up, all of a sudden I see something big and black come off of his airplane. And then it just keeps flying, comes around, comes around, and then lands perfectly down the center of the runway.
[01:01:14] And I said, I think I said to him, I said, what was that? He’s like, I don’t know. I thought I lost the propeller at first. Well, it turns out he lost his battery.
[01:01:24] -Oh.
[01:01:24] And he was in the perfect position, I guess, before the battery came out to where after the battery was out, he had no control over everything or ever over anything. And it just turned perfectly right down the runway and landed almost better than he lands when he has the battery.
[01:01:45] Okay. What this is telling me is this airplane is horribly nose heavy because you throw the battery out and it still flies.
[01:01:53] That mounts in front of the, yeah.
[01:01:55] Yeah. In front of the wing. These airplanes are horribly nose heavy.
[01:01:59] But, I mean, they fly good both ways.
[01:02:01] Yeah. Now, mine is back behind the landing gear and it flies a lot better.
[01:02:06] Yeah.
[01:02:06] That tells me mine can probably go way back.
[01:02:08] Farther even, yeah.
[01:02:09] Yeah.
[01:02:10] You’re talking about the slow ultra sticks? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So.
[01:02:13] It didn’t porpoise or anything.
[01:02:15] Weren’t they trying to put the batteries as far back as we could to make them unstable, so they’d be a little bit more fun to fly anyway?
[01:02:21] Yeah. Well, I remember, I, I.
[01:02:24] So, if this battery is in the nose, yeah, it’s definitely nose heavy.
[01:02:28] Well, that’s where it’s supposed to be. I mean, per the instructions and that kind of stuff on it. I remember Joe Knoll a couple years ago, they were flying. It was, the battery was mounted way back. I want to say it was like at the trailing edge of the wing.
[01:02:43] At the trailing edge.
[01:02:44] Yeah. And they were getting a lot more fun out of it, I guess. But, yeah.
[01:02:48] Mine flies really good right behind the landing gear. So, that’s where I kind of want to leave it.
[01:02:52] I still have mine up front. Just, I probably ought to push it back. But, I’ve been lazy and didn’t want to move the mount.
[01:02:58] It takes 10 minutes.
[01:03:00] If that. I know. It’s easy. But, I still have to. Yeah. You need to get one before they stop making them, to be honest.
[1:03:07] UNKNOWN: I know.[01:03:08] But.
[01:03:08] They got a bunch of them here. They’re really, really popular. Well, see. Those are the aeroscouts.
[01:03:14] Well, aeroscouts are so easy to fly. But, I actually think the slow ultra stick is more fun than that. But, don’t forget, if you get it, do what I did and put lights on it so you have a nice night flyer.
[01:03:24] Right. Yeah, exactly.
[01:03:26] For when you.
[01:03:27] I mean, that’s. And, I’ll do it eventually.
[01:03:29] That’s what they all say.
[01:03:30] Wow. Better pick one up now, and then you can just bring it home.
[01:03:34] Well, we’ve been trying to find a used one. They’re nowhere. Nope. There’s no used slow, ultra slow sticks.
[01:03:41] Yeah, it’s amazing. I mean, people either like them that much, or, I mean, I guess they like them that much, because you can’t really crash them unless you try. And, even then, they don’t break very easy. Huh?
[01:03:52] You mean like I do?
[01:03:54] Well.
[01:03:54] Hey, what’s this?
[01:03:55] Yeah, but it didn’t break.
[01:03:57] No, that’s true. It didn’t.
[01:03:59] So, yeah, you need to get yourself one. We all should have one of those.
[01:04:04] Yeah, I’ll get one.
[01:04:07] I’ve been hearing that for years.
[01:04:09] I know. Well, there’s always something better, or different, or new, or unique.
[01:04:17] That is true.
[01:04:18] Yeah, you just need to have that in the background as a hack, just something laying around.
[01:04:25] That’s just one I don’t care about, that if it’s windy, it still flies great, that, I mean, I literally, you can’t, you can, because Tommy did, but you cannot crash them.
[01:04:36] Yeah, it was almost like I did it on purpose. You might have. No, I didn’t.
[01:04:41] I know. But no, I mean, like I said, you just, if you get in trouble, cut the throttle, and it just, I mean, you can’t stall it. Man, it does. It flies without a battery. And it flies without a battery, yeah.
[01:04:52] Really decently.
[01:04:55] All right, what else you got? I’m through my list.
[01:04:59] I got a couple little things, but really, the one that surprised me, my maiden flight, was that little Piaget. I assume I’m pronouncing it correctly. I have no idea, but yeah. It’s very Italian to me.
[01:05:10] Yeah. I’ve looked it up on the internet, and it probably means dancer or something like that.
[01:05:15] There’s, all it does is some physicist or something that I can’t really find out what Piaget means. I bought it up at Bloyd again. No, no. No, this one came from Eli for 40 bucks. Complete. Now, the previous owner had swapped out the…
[01:05:34] Well, tell what kind of plant it is first.
[01:05:36] It’s a flat 3D foamy. It’s got a little stubby wing mounted on top of the fuselage. I’m not sure what that’s supposed to do for us, but it’s got it up there. Extra lift. Extra lift. P-I-A-G-E-T. It’s made by Skynetics, and Motion sells them. They’re about 100 bucks. The previous owner had taken the power supply out of it and put in the speed control and motor out of a Radix. So, this is not the only drivetrain in it. Oh, okay. And I think it’s… Oh, there it is.
[01:06:12] I see it. Yeah, that’s a good looking airplane.
[01:06:14] Yeah. Like I said, I think they’re around 100 bucks new. So, I mean, 40 bucks is still a great deal, and it was ready to fly.
[01:06:23] 119 On MotionRC right now.
[01:06:25] So, yeah. Yeah, but this has the upgraded Radix drivetrain, which seems to be a really, really good match for this airplane. It’s got the little drag evaders, or whatever you want to call them, the little drag-inducing items out on the ailerons. The air brakes. Yeah. Which makes this really difficult for me to fly, as far as mentally, because it’s just like, it won’t go. I’m at half throttle, and this thing is just dragging butt through the sky.
[01:06:52] Right.
[01:06:53] But it actually is an absolute blast to fly, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites at this point. I’ve actually flown it twice. Yeah. Ron’s even flown it.
[01:07:03] It could be an indoor flyer.
[01:07:04] Yeah. It should be able to fly indoors.
[01:07:07] Easily.
[01:07:08] Cool. It hovers nicely, and I don’t hover well, and this thing makes me look like a champ.
[1:07:14] UNKNOWN: So…[01:07:14] Nice. Yeah, it’s a nice little airplane, and for 40 bucks, it’s got either three-cell, 800-milli-amp pack in it. It gets tons of flight time.
[01:07:27] He flew it out here before we recorded.
[01:07:29] Yep. We flew it here just a few months ago. We’ll see if I missed that. It really, really surprised me. I didn’t think it would fly nearly as well. I bought it just as a… Well, because it was 40 bucks.
[01:07:42] Right.
[01:07:43] I thought, okay, there’s at least 40 bucks worth of parts here I can do something with, And it’s like man, I need to buy a spare one of these.
[01:07:52] Well, 119 on motion right now. Yep. So, speaking of motion and online retailers in general, RC airplane retailers, what’s new? I have not been keeping up.
[01:08:07] We cover this every mess.
[01:08:09] Yeah.
[01:08:10] Well, he doesn’t listen because it was terrible, he says.
[01:08:12] Well, I usually skip the first 15 or 20 minutes, which is usually when we’re going to talk about what’s new.
[01:08:20] Wow. Hurts. Well, actually, there’s a new plane you need to buy if you’re going to try and do your owning all the Vipers that Horizon makes. Did you see they came out with a turbine?
[01:08:33] Yeah, I did see that. No, I will not be buying one of those.
[01:08:38] Well, you said you wanted every one they had when they just had the four.
[01:08:41] Well, let me quantify that. Let’s see. I’ll just say every foam version they have. Every size.
[01:08:49] There you go. Yeah. So, that would be a good goal for you because you have the most expensive ones already. So, the ones you need to purchase are just the small ones.
[01:09:00] Yeah. And the batteries for them because,. Well, actually, the 64mm one, I think it takes a 4S3200, right?
[01:09:07] I don’t remember. I don’t know.
[01:09:10] Yeah, I think it takes the same battery that I fly in the timber, which that would be convenient. But the UMX one, yeah, it’s a special battery that I don’t have any other use.
[01:09:21] It is, but they’re only like $10 a piece.
[01:09:23] Well, that’s true.
[01:09:25] So, I’m okay with that one. I have two of them for mine. Nice.
[01:09:30] Yeah. Yeah, I would need at least two because the field or the place I fly at has no power. So, I would have to charge the batteries, before I go there. Yeah. Two batteries would be a must. Especially since it takes like a half an hour to get really anywhere where I’m at.
[01:09:50] See, you just need a trailer now that has a battery in it and you can charge out of your trailer.
[01:09:54] Nah, I’ll just use yours when I get home.
[01:09:56] Well, when you get home, that’s fine. But talking about now.
[01:10:00] Right. Well, the problem with the trailer is you need something to pull it with, right?
[01:10:04] Yes. That is my issue right now, as a matter of fact. Thank you for bringing that up.
[01:10:08] Oh, you’re welcome.
[01:10:10] Better to rub it in. Anyway. What else, Dave?
[01:10:15] Oh, sorry.
[01:10:15] Go.
[01:10:16] No, go ahead, Dave. What else?
[01:10:20] I just haven’t been doing much working on airplanes lately other than patching back to F-18. I’ve been spending most of my time working on the vehicle. Always something. Always something. Wait a minute.
[01:10:30] Didn’t you get a Toyota pickup before I left?
[01:10:34] I did. I’m working on it already? Yep. And this is fun working on. I end up, I don’t know if you heard, I ended up getting a cap for it. So I’ve got a…
[01:10:43] A topper.
[01:10:44] Camper shell.
[01:10:44] Not the airplane.
[01:10:47] Okay.
[01:10:47] Well, that threw me at first.
[01:10:49] He said cap. I’m like, a cap? Like a hat?
[01:10:51] Or like a….
[1:10:51] UNKNOWN: Yeah.[01:10:52] Anyway, it’s got a fiberglass shell on it now. But there was no lights in it. Previously, I was using the cargo bed lights, because we do the knife line thing. Yeah. And the cargo bed light with the camper shell on it gets zero light inside the bed. And it’s a black truck with a black line. It’s black on black on black on black. So it’s dark in there. It’s hard to work with. So I know I needed just some lights in there.
[01:11:17] And I also, just for convenience sake, really wanted to have 12-volt power in the bed. And the modern, newer trucks, they all have a 12-volt power point or power point of some sort in the bed. Right. But, I mean, popping the hood’s fine. But it’d just be nice to be able on the tailgate and everything’s just right there. So I ended up buying some lights off Amazon to mount inside the shell. And at the last minute, decided to run 12-volt power to the bed.
[01:11:55] And that was basically because I had to get into the door jamb at the back of the truck, back door, to access the wiring for the bed light because the lights inside the bed of the truck now are hooked up to the key fob and the switch on the dash, just like the cargo light was. So I had the full functionality, but I had to access the wiring harness that was in the door jamb.
[01:12:25] And the previous owner of this truck had a couple of large amps in the back seat area of the truck and had this monster-sized wire. What’d you say it was?
[01:12:35] It looked like size four, just by looking at it.
[01:12:37] It was about half-inch diameter, big, big wires. And they connect directly to the battery with the fuse panel and everything up front. And that had terminated in the back seat area of the truck, which I had just left it there. I was about ready to rip it out. In fact, that was the thought when I was pulling all this out. I was just going to pull this wire out of the truck while I was cleaning everything up. And I got thinking, why not just extend this to the bed?
[01:13:03] So I ended up getting some eight-gauge wire and hooking it to this number four wire and ran all the way to the bed of the truck. So now I have 12-volt wire in the back, and I’m weighing on parts that come from Amazon, some big solar power connectors so we can hook chargers and so forth to it. And I’ve got a little box I’m going to mount everything in. And hopefully that all works out for us. So I’ve got lights and 12-volt power in the bed of the truck, fuse protected.
[01:13:35] The lights.
[01:13:35] Yeah, that’ll be nice to have there so you don’t have your charger sitting on the core support with the hood open, hoping that the wind doesn’t come by and slam the hood down on your charger.
[01:13:44] Yeah, or just knock it off. Yeah, that’s going to be nice to have it back there. And I’ve also got a carpeted bed liner coming for it, which I’m having to wait for that to arrive. It’s been a couple of weeks. And that’s because the manufacturer is switching names. They went from bed rug to husky liner. So they’re having to redo all their stock with husky liner tags on it. But it’ll get here eventually. I got a heck of a deal off of it. It was like $180 less than normal.
[01:14:14] So I can wait a couple weeks’ work to show up. So it’ll be easy on the days.
[01:14:21] I have to look at your setup when I get home and copy that on Granddad.
[01:14:25] Yep. And I figured out a way to do a wing rack in the truck that’s not going to be in the way if you want to use it. And I haven’t got anything built for that yet. I just figured that out this week. But we’ll talk about that in a future episode.
[01:14:37] I did get a rack built for the truck before I left. I don’t know if you ever saw it. Yeah, I saw the rack.
[01:14:44] I wanted something that wasn’t going to be in the way when I’m not hauling airplanes. So it’s going to be out. So this is actually going to be mounting part on the shell. It’s got two nice little four-inch wide shelves on the side. And this is going to mount brackets so that I can just have the pipes across that are adjustable. And when I’m not using it, all the pipes will just smash up against the front of the cab and be out of the way.
[01:15:09] Nice. Yeah, that sounds like it’ll be slick.
[01:15:11] Yeah, so it sounds good. I’m still trying to figure out how I use 20 foot of wire to go through a six and a half foot bed.
[01:15:19] Right.
[01:15:20] So I originally bought 10 foot of wire, and I barely got past the axle, and I was out of wire. It’s like, I just went four feet. How did I use 10 foot of wire?
[01:15:31] Yeah, it’s funny how that works.
[01:15:33] Yeah, so I bought another 10 foot and have about a foot and a half left over.
[01:15:36] Yeah, so when I did the trailer, I bought 200 feet of 12 gauge. Yeah, 200 feet of 12 gauge wire, and I’m down to like six feet left. It’s amazing how fast.
[01:15:49] Where does it go?
[01:15:50] I don’t know, but it gets eaten up really quick.
[01:15:52] And I went in a straight shot. It’s not like looping it around stuff and whatever. It was a straight shot from the back door, down the frame rail, up and over the axle. Yeah, anyway.
[01:16:05] Sounds cool.
[01:16:07] So yeah, we’ll definitely compare notes when you get back.
[01:16:12] Yeah, yeah, I would like to have power in the back of the truck, and maybe in the BMW, too. Actually, the BMW might already have.
[01:16:20] Now, so doesn’t that have a port back there already?
[01:16:22] It might. I haven’t actually looked. But to be honest, I’ve never had to charge anything off the battery of that car. Well, the battery’s in the back of the car, too, so that’s kind of different.
[01:16:32] No, that’s going to make for a short run if you’ve got to run anything.
[01:16:35] I don’t mean to sound stupid, but are you able to do that on that BMW?
[01:16:40] What do you mean?
[01:16:41] Well, I remember when I had the Audi, you couldn’t charge anything off of the battery because it all had to run through the computer for it to know how charged the battery was.
[01:16:52] It should still see the voltage.
[01:16:54] I’m just saying, like it measures whatever. That was one of the things that it said in the manual not to plug anything directly to the battery. Something to look into.
[01:17:03] Yeah. Well, if they provide a tap in the trunk area, then I would assume that the computer or whatever would compensate to whatever you’re plugging into it. So if there’s a tap back there, I’ll use it. But anyway, more importantly, I want power in the truck because I feel like I’ll use the truck more to hold the airplanes than the other car because it’s too small.
[01:17:28] Yeah. I agree. It’s just a convenience factor. It’s got to be so nice to not have to walk to the front of the truck.
[01:17:34] Right. Exactly.
[01:17:35] I mean, it’s so far. I know. God, you guys are whining so much about a six-foot walk. Just the convenience of having it right there on the tailgate where you’re, I mean, just, and you got all your stuff and you got a big flats area you can lay stuff out on.
[01:17:48] Right. Exactly.
[01:17:49] I keep losing batteries under the hood. They fall all the time. And I crawl underneath the truck to go get them.
[01:17:54] And well, I don’t think I’m being lazy at all.
[01:17:57] No, you’re right. You’re not. But anyway, what I did, and I’ll admit, I didn’t think this one through at all. So I told you a while ago, I ended up buying the four-port DC charger that Spectrum has now. Right. So the reason I did that is because the first time I went to the field with the trailer, I didn’t have a power inverter. Like, the one I had was crud, so I took it out. And when I was at the field, the only way I could charge batteries was by running the generator.
[01:18:31] Didn’t, like, for some reason it didn’t hit me that my plan was to buy an inverter. And so I ordered this specific DC charger for four, the four-port charger so I could charge off the trailer. And then the next time I went out to the field, I had all that set up. And that’s when I realized, okay, well, I have my inverter in now. So I have 120 volts. This was useless.
[01:18:54] I should have just ran or, not done all this with a 12-volt and just ran my normal 120-volt chargers.
[01:19:01] Yeah, you’re going to run across a DC charger at some point or just need straight DC back there.
[01:19:07] Thank you for making me feel better. Yes, I suppose. But that was completely just stupid or stupid on my part and not even thinking it through. Because now, like I said, I have that charger and then I’m running the inverter all the time anyway when I’m gone. And so, whatever. I still need to get solar for that, though. When we were at the field, so I’m trying to think, because that was, Crystal ended up coming and so did Piper.
[01:19:35] Dave knows this, so, Tommy, this is more for you than anything. So we went out to the field and I charged, let’s see, I think 10 batteries and Reggie charged two or three on it. And this is all, without a generator. So this is just off that big battery I have in there. We ran the refrigerator for eight hours. Actually, it was closer to 10 hours. Piper watch TV. We had a fan going, like one of the big, like the high velocity fans running off of it.
[01:20:09] And I’m trying to think, I think we ran the air conditioner for, half hour or something like that. It ended up using like 46% of the battery. So I don’t think that’s too bad.
[01:20:19] Yeah, that’s crazy. How big is that battery?
[01:20:23] I don’t remember now. Somewhere there’s a nuclear submarine missing a battery.
[01:20:29] No, it’s good size. I don’t remember what the actual capacity is.
[01:20:33] I want to say, like, is it 31 amp hours or no?
[01:20:39] I don’t remember. I’d have to look it up.
[01:20:41] Is it a lithium battery?
[01:20:43] Yeah. Yeah, one of the LIFE PO4s or whatever you call them.
[01:20:48] Gotcha. Yeah, yep.
[01:20:49] So, yeah, we’ll be able to do a lot of battery charging and stuff when you get back with it.
[01:20:55] Sweet. Yeah, hopefully we will do a lot of flying when I get back.
[01:21:00] Yeah, hopefully we have a little bit of warm weather once you show up.
[01:21:04] Yeah, I’m hopeful. But even if not, I’ve got, cold weather gear. I’ll get flying done if I have to.
[01:21:12] Yeah, you’re not a weenie like somebody we know.
[01:21:16] That’s so bad to talk about Daniel when he’s not here to defend himself like that.
[01:21:21] -Huh, right. Oh, not what you meant.
[01:21:25] All right. You guys got anything else? Dave? No, I’m good.
[01:21:28] Tommy? Nope, I’m good. That’s all I got.
[01:21:31] I will give you last word then. You take us out.
[01:21:35] Well, okay, hopefully I’ll be able to do this again. You guys will tell me what the schedule is because it’s been a while. I think it’s Wednesdays normally is when we record, right?
[01:21:46] Thursdays. Is that close enough?
[01:21:48] Thursdays, okay. All right, well, thanks everybody for listening. I’m Tom.
[01:21:54] I’m Ron. And I’m Dave. Good night. Good night.
[01:21:58] Good night.
