[00:00:02] Hello everyone welcome to the rc plane lab podcast i'm ron i'm tom how are you tom i'm a little cold actually we just broke every rule that we we said don't do so we did we tom just got out here to record an episode and as we sat down he looked over at that little air hogs thing that i had talked about getting for free from the guy at the previous swap meet i went to and he's like have

[00:00:33] You flown that yet that's how he talks by the way have you flown that yet it's exactly like me i said

[00:00:38] No i have not so we went out and flew it so it might be dark so it's dark out yeah it's definitely

[00:00:46] Not light out so i thought i would have enough lights outside to see it i don't know why i thought that i'm not sure you thought that either and after i i took off it might have gotten hard to see so i just i ditched it in the field which is tall grass so i knew nothing was gonna happen we went and came inside got a flashlight because that's how you find them when they're in the tall grass and we got it out it was fine it was perfect yeah nothing wrong fine

[00:01:10] So then we had the bright idea of hey i'll hold the flashlight on it while you fly it right i'll keep it lit in the foot and believe it or not that actually worked well so yeah that thing actually is kind of fun i mean for the wonderful price of free but yeah i'm surprised actually that it made it around as far as and as many times as it did i felt like i had good control over it which surprised imagine imagine how it would be in the daylight with no wind and no wind yeah and not so

[00:01:40] Freaking cold oh so you ready to start so that yeah that's that's the subject of this episode actually what just flying at night well no the the cool things you can find at the swap meets we just

[00:01:53] Went to a swap meet we did and i actually had fun because i got to go to a swap meet with you this time not just by myself i was able to go people there but yeah we we got some stuff what did

[00:02:06] You get tom because you actually ended up with a lot well i spent the least but i feel like i brought home the most actually i mean technically you did i mean i came home with two items as opposed to your

[00:02:20] One item you you only bought yeah you only bought two things why does it feel like you bought more

[00:02:25] Than well because we did a little horse trading of our own beforehand and after maybe that's what i'm

[00:02:30] Yeah yeah okay that's what because in the last like a week and a half i've hold on one two three you've acquired a few airplanes eight airplanes holy eight airplanes in the last week and a half two weeks two weeks last two weeks yes i know you're looking around and i've gotten rid of

[00:02:50] Four well i got rid of one reacquired one so technically i'm i'm three now it wasn't reacquired

[00:02:56] It was acquired well i guess are you talking which one are you talking about are you talking about skybolt yeah we did some trading i traded my i can't do it as well as you do super sky skybolt four you remember when you said yeah it was a super skybolt yes it was now i gotta find that clip somewhere but anyway i traded that back not back to you i traded that to you for what did what did i get from you because i don't remember go ahead and name them off so electric

[00:03:24] Airplanes yeah so one of them is an e-flight the yak 54 with the as3x which before everybody gives me heck about it it's an airplane so what i mean like it's actually if it was balsa if that airplane was balsa even though it's electric i would i would have kept it but it's a carbon z yak so that

[00:03:45] Means by the way do what the carbon z means i have no idea it has carbon added to the foam to make it a stiffer foam it's still foam it is still foam and it is i don't like that but

[00:03:58] What but if that was a balsa airplane it would not have ended up in your hand well maybe it would have well but not not with this trade it wouldn't have anyway you got that then i had a i don't know if it's pronounced flitton or flighton or whatever it is it's a small very small edge i

[00:04:17] Think it is it's the edge 540 mini 40 mini and it is mini it's really really small well i mean let's not say really really small it's not tiny well it's not i mean it's what is that 30 inch wingspan

[00:04:29] Let's just call it 30 inch wingspan because that's it's pretty small yeah but it is a balsa airplane so

[00:04:34] That's good it is that's what i like about it a little electric once again nice full full control four channel or yeah yeah airplane and five if you want yeah that's my flaps okay what flap flapper on so i should say and then the other one is the don't look away i don't nobody can hear

[00:04:52] You i'm sorry the other one is the ugly i don't know what i guess it's an edge it's it kind of goes back almost a profile yeah but it actually has depth like the fuselage has depth and it has an

[00:05:05] Airfoil it kind of goes back to our profile foamy episode of last last last couple weeks ago i want to say last week but i knew it wasn't last week last time that's what i was going for that's a weird like this is one you got on a trade with a bunch of stuff yeah and it's kind of been the

[00:05:23] The ugly duckling of the group because nobody really wants it but it flies really well but it's so ugly i mean that's i i just can't but it's i love it because it's so ugly yeah and and for those three airplanes you gave me your super sky bolt which i like that plane too but i do too i'm surprised you wanted to to do that but so it goes all the way back to your comment of

[00:05:47] I love biplanes i do love which reminds me of my position of i hate biplanes i mean it's not that i hate biplanes but i don't like all the extra work that goes into it yeah assembling them at the field can be a pain yeah like that's one wing is enough to put on and deal with all that stuff but then and so the super sky bolt you got really is simple the way it's set up top wing bolts on bottom wing bolts on whatever those strut things are that connect them they go in and there's actually embedded screw or blind nuts in the wings they just kind of screw the thumb screws into

[00:06:24] And then the ailerons connect together with a long wire so it's simple this is the the the old great planes arf super sky bolt which likes it good looking airplane but i just i don't want to do with all the extra biplane stuff i've flown it several times and i'm i'm ready to move on it's got a cool 15 cc gas motor that hurt more than anything i'm going to be honest with you if that was a nitro i would have been a lot easier with it but giving up a gas engine was yeah so you acquired those

[00:06:55] Before we actually went to the swap meet so that was right before right yeah so yeah you and then

[00:07:01] Two airplanes that i bought from the swap meet before and then not that this is a all about what i bought i have purchased have not received yet but purchased from you another yak you did 50 cc yeah

[00:07:14] Yeah and it's not a it's not a sale that i wanted to make not really well it's not a sale i wanted

[00:07:20] To buy well but it is i mean that's i don't know how it's my it's my it's my hanger 9 carden

[00:07:27] Edition yak 54 and if you're not familiar it's a it's a 50 cc it's a big airplane it's a really pretty airplane it's a decent sized airplane white yellow and purple with the cool checkerboard i'm a huge fan of the airplane itself it flies great it's just when i'm gonna fly a big airplane that's not the airplane i grab for whatever reason i always right 50 cc size airplane i normally just gravitate towards the s-box probably because it's closer to the door in my basement than the yak

[00:07:58] Because the yak takes up a good reason for whatever reason the yak feels like it takes up more space than the similar size s-box i think it's it's taller or maybe well yaks usually sit a little bit taller yeah than the s-box especially it's a pain to get in and out of my basement and it just sits there i mean the last time i flew it was the we looked up pictures it was september of 2020 and i think

[00:08:23] September 20th of 2020 so it's been it's been a while so but you didn't want to get rid of it but you needed to for a room yeah i stupidly i have no idea where i'm going to store this

[00:08:35] Now because well you've seen you have kind of a plan we look look back in your shop and they probably fit there or maybe maybe not i don't know but you not my problem you no no

[00:08:48] Not anymore you've seen my basement now we're sitting in the midst of airplanes temporary airplanes

[00:08:55] Everywhere it's temporary just until you have time to put everything where it goes but i don't have the

[00:09:01] Goes area for it to goes to so my wife is a saint like honestly yes i i would divorce me if i was i hope

[00:09:11] Crystal is listening to this she doesn't listen anymore oh she's too busy she might catch up later

[00:09:16] She really needs to listen to this episode yeah i it's it's it's bad like the last and i was telling you before i have spent more money in this hobby in the last three weeks than i have in the last year i'm going to do it easily fair statement and it's it's it's exciting i mean it's gotten me back to doing stuff and i think that's the problem is i'm like back into it right the swap meets really mess with me because you see so much cool stuff yes and then it just kind of that switch gets

[00:09:50] Turned back on it's it's cyclical i mean i get it i'm i'm at the peak no i'm not at the peak yet i'm heading towards the peak there's more well now we're buying stuff more working on stuff i mean it's really got that turned back on which is awesome that's good it's good so we'll see what's what's coming but that's that's not the point of what we're talking about now we're talking

[00:10:12] About the cool stuff and the fun we had at the at the swap yeah so this weekend swap me was a really good one actually decatur illinois yeah decatur illinois went to that one so i've been to that one before in years past and it was it was yeah definitely hit and miss but this one was was really i felt it was pretty good even though there were no vendors there did you notice

[00:10:31] That well there was a spectrum guy there so there was a guy actually from spectrum there yeah i didn't i didn't see that guy we walked around like 485 times how did you not see that guy well i wasn't

[00:10:43] Looking for the spectrum guy i guess i wouldn't either but well by vendors i mean the guys who like always show up at the swap meets and they have like the wide assortment of like servo extensions and just yeah there was none no there wasn't there wasn't a lot of parts and pieces no you're right there was a lot of airplanes a ton of airplanes which was awesome i tell you what

[00:11:04] The problem with them though like so okay so comparing the two because you didn't get to make it down to columbia missouri with me when i i don't know when i went right that one had a lot of what's what i'm looking for like the electric ones that were down there were not the cool looking

[00:11:26] Like balsa electric ones it was all the the foamies and epp foam and all that kind of stuff and there weren't a ton of them there was a lot more of the vendor type things that you were talking about down there they had tables of servo except but no servos by the way like that was the weird thing like i went down looking for servos specifically because reggie asked me to look at one right which i don't like i could not believe that there was one box i think i saw with like six or seven servos but anyway but it had a lot more of the

[00:11:59] Like nicer but not nicer stuff does that like more expensive but not exactly what i was looking for like i don't know how to describe it very well and i'm doing a terrible job i know it but they had some big airplanes that were really cool but i didn't really get a chance to look at those because i knew i had no way of getting them home but other than that like the number of airplanes like just surveying the tables compared to what we saw in decatur yeah decatur just blew it

[00:12:31] Out of the water i mean there were tons of airplanes well and i think so from what i observed at the decatur swap means it seemed like there was one guy there that was responsible for almost half

[00:12:42] Probably of everything that was there well about a quarter because he had one full side of the inside row and then and then the front and just a little bit back yeah but there was still a lot of other

[00:12:53] Planes that weren't just his yeah and really good deals yeah and that's what i was going to say was that yeah i so i bought two airplanes i feel like i stole them i well i really feel like i stole them because if you want to tell the story on that one yeah so so first airplane i bought was a look like a it looks like an old pika rapier which was a kit from the 70s and 80s it's a little bit

[00:13:24] Different it has wire this one has wire gear and the tail is a little bit different but anyway it's a which that could have been just somebody designing it a little bit different when they putting putting their spin on it but yeah it's a it's a very stick type airplane thick straight wing boxy fuselage that somebody had done a beautiful job of building this thing it's probably about a 48 inch to 50 inch wing maybe it's probably not much bigger than that yeah i agree with that but designed around a 40 size two-stroke nitro

[00:13:55] But they had just done a beautiful build job on this thing i mean the corners were nice and rounded the the glue joints were nice and tight these are the things that i look at yeah and the covering was just it's beautiful it's like a it's cub yellow and silver it's so it's overall cub

[00:14:12] Yellow with some silver trim which if you would have told me those went together i would not believe you

[00:14:18] Yeah but it it's really sharp yeah it really i'm i'm impressed to be honest what what really made me pull the trigger was the quality of the build i mean honestly yeah so the airplane no engine on it but it's ready for it like the mount is on it it's already drilled there already has a tank in it that's brand new even has servos in it right and good service yeah they're good i think they were three thousand threes no they were the spectrum the spectrum st47s yeah yeah the digital

[00:14:48] Ones right so the entire thing the guy was asking seventy dollars no he was asking eighty dollars that's right because i ended up paying seventy dollars for you did which i feel like wow i mean

[00:15:02] That's a steal i when you look at what you got you could not buy hardly anything i mean the covering makes up a good amount of that cross or the cost the the servos themselves because what

[00:15:16] Were there i wish i know who built it so i could thank them for for producing such a pretty airplane

[00:15:22] It really is pretty did it come with four or five servers i don't remember it has

[00:15:27] It has five that's what i thought there's a servo in each each wing and there's a servo it's a one piece wing so i mean it's it's an older airplane but yeah five servos the all the hardware i mean it's ready for an engine and i have plenty of those so engine receiver and yeah battery and you're right and i'm all set yeah there was a battery in it but i i tried to put a couple cycles on in that oh there was yeah it had that little square oh thing in it that oh no that wasn't that one yeah so anyway that one that battery's bad so i figured it's not a big deal but

[00:16:01] Anyway yeah that so i think the thing that set that one off for me that i was surprised by the colors look okay together like good together but somebody took the time to do a gorgeous black pinstripe between the colors yeah eighth inch wide give or take it's not a white it's less than that it's and you can tell it's hand cut oh yeah because it's not it's not just a roll of whatever it was that they would have used for it and that really just makes the whole thing pop yeah

[00:16:32] It's it's actually the pinstripe is actually covering it's not a ironed on tape or whatever but yeah just just a beautiful like there's not a flaw in the construction yeah so i agree yeah seventy dollars you got a good deal on that one and then so i was really really happy about that so that's what i bought first but there were plenty of opportunities to buy other air because there were a lot of airplanes there but the second airplane i bought go ahead i was just gonna

[00:16:58] Say that we probably should have taken like my point like i didn't want to buy anything big and you even said you weren't planning on buying an airplane right so we took my car purposefully to limit me because i knew if i saw something that was awesome a great deal or something like that i would not be able to to walk away from it but once i saw that airplane like i didn't even i wasn't even thinking about what we drove yeah well and luckily we we hadn't out a couple of our friends drove down or drove over there too and one of them had a suburban so we were good on that one however

[00:17:35] The the so you want you want to tell about the piper you saw yeah so somebody had had brought a

[00:17:42] Piper cut which was the military version which is the l4 grasshopper just beautiful they had instead of like gluing the canopy on they had actually taking taken scale sized screws and screwed it on and not in that ugly hacky way that you might think like it was very tastefully done and the build quality on that thing was really really nice too had a i believe it had a cr no i'm sorry i had a da third no what had a dle 30 on it i don't know what the motor was and it was all brand new and never

[00:18:18] Been flown and it was the the paint job was beautiful scale cockpit yeah i mean everything

[00:18:24] Was done beautifully what was that like 400 right no it was 425 what they're asking but i mean the

[00:18:31] The covering what did they use on could you tell what that was i believe it was painted either silkspan or poly the polyester that's what i thought too but yeah it wasn't a regular covering i mean it was

[00:18:43] It had that what's the pinking tape and stuff on it too i mean that was just done yeah that so i'm gonna be honest had i not like if we would have taken your car that would have been my purchase yeah

[00:18:57] I i yeah i'm glad i didn't had i not limited myself on the cash that i took and i had already spent a little bit of it before i really looked at that airplane yeah i probably would have bought it that

[00:19:09] That was because i don't own a cub right now i don't either so and those like i'm not a huge fan of the regular cubs but i really like the the grasshoppers i just like the green color better than the yellow yeah so that one was one that and that was a good size i can't remember i don't know

[00:19:24] If i looked at the wing did it have invasion stripes on the wing i don't remember paying attention to

[00:19:29] I was thinking it did but i could be i thought it did too but hey it was beautiful that one did not last long no no that was gone that one was gone pretty quick very fast understandably i mean like that was a heck of a deal for what was on that airplane yeah what you i was gonna say so

[00:19:49] Moving on to the second one that i bought so it's a it's a nobler so lots of companies have made kits of the nobler it's a it's a popular control line airplane from back in the 60s that has been converted for rcus and they changed the wing design good flying airplanes somebody had one there that was well built again and attractive color scheme but what attracted me to this particular airplane was the engine that was on it it was a brand new well like new rcv 56 which is a i can't remember what rcv stands for but it's a compact four stroke so

[00:20:28] Instead of using overhead valves with the push rods and all that it uses a a sleeve valve which is a really really unique way of controlling the intake and exhaust and this thing is bench run only and i believe it after i've i've had it apart already of course you have by the way i took it apart well i didn't take it all the way apart but i took it apart enough to to really give it a good inspection and it's yeah there's no there's no black anything and it's it's practically new

[00:21:01] They haven't made these things for a while and they were really really really expensive i was going to

[00:21:05] Ask timing like do like when they stopped like so there was a warranty card in it so we know when that one was bought but do like when they stopped making them i think they were i think

[00:21:15] They were stopped they they had stopped importing them i want to say they had stopped importing them around 2012 2014 ish okay somewhere in that time frame when they actually stopped producing them i don't know because they're produced i think in england i think i'll have to look but okay just a just a real unique engine and i don't own one well now you do well now i do right so that's that's why it attracted me to that airplane and so they had so the price he had on it was i think it was 175 no it started off at 275 275 that's right so i i walked around it and i made sure

[00:21:52] So there's a go ahead no i was gonna say so it was 275 apparently it didn't sell quick enough so he marked it down to 175 yeah took 100 bucks off and then yeah that's when we saw it is when it had already been yeah and actually it was one like of all the airplanes that were in there i could have i had no problem walking away from any of the other ones because they're my or nitro this one like i just i've never seen that shape before and there's something about the coloring that the guy did it in and whatever it's a gorgeous airplane that i really just like yeah every now and then

[00:22:26] You get those airplanes you're like i love hey there's something about this airplane i really like and that is what kind of for me it was the engine that was on it right yeah so so tom's strategy so like there's so i'll get back to the airplane in a minute so there's a strategy right when i go to a swap meet i have this this thing that i do and it drives you crazy because because it takes time but it works right so you walk around and you make sure that the owner of whatever object you're interested in knows that you're interested in that object but don't make an offer on just look at it oh

[00:23:01] Yeah this is nice well i really only want it in this case i the airplane i really only want it for the engine but that's if you want to take the engine off fine i'll make an offer on that but most guys don't take tools as we discovered yeah to swap me so that usually doesn't work so just make sure that they know that you're interested in it and if you're the only one that has expressed interest in it which i'm pretty sure no we were there a couple i don't

[00:23:29] I did i watched i watched two other guys go up and talk to him about it oh well so you have to

[00:23:34] That's just part of the strategy also you just you can't fall in love with the first thing or the item that you see otherwise you're going to be paying him whatever he's asking and that's

[00:23:44] Not the goal of the swap meet well it's not but so here's i learned this a long time ago okay and this is you and i come at things completely completely differently and i think it's because like when i see something i want i have learned that i want to move on it and i want to make it happen and i want to make it happen now because it's not going to be there forever like i remember back when i was when my wife and i started dating we went to ohio columbus ohio for a swap meet for automotive stuff and long story short there was a plasma cutter first thing we saw when we got into

[00:24:21] This was a plasma cutter great price i wanted it i didn't want to carry it and i didn't want to carry it back out to the car yeah so plasma cutters are heavy they are yeah i didn't have one so i just i let it sit and i said i'm going to get that on the way out i learned then you got to buy it then because by the time i went back to it it was gone so that is ingrained in me now so when i see something i want

[00:24:45] If i really really want it i don't walk away i get it but but in my case at this particular swap meet i probably have one of everything there at least not that motor not the motor but i mean i have a a 50 size four stroke that if i needed a 50 size four stroke i've got one true so there's nothing at this swap meet that i really need what i'm saying like well nothing any of us really so i don't fall in love with with anything that i see except for that little yellow airplane i

[00:25:16] Did fall in love with that but i still didn't i still didn't pay him what he was asking so but you bought it i did and you didn't walk away yeah i did i walked away from it a couple times but oh yeah because the first time i walked by it i told him i was like i would buy this but i just i just don't have the room yeah so on and so forth okay so anyway

[00:25:37] You didn't discuss price though no no no not until you actually discussed price then you bought it

[00:25:42] Right so anyway the other deal here i had the advantage of really all i wanted was the engine on this particular the airplane was neat i like it it's cool and had i not done what i did with the airframe we'll talk about that in a second i probably would have kept the engine on the airframe and flown it or whatever before but i had the advantage of not really wanting the airframe so much as just the engine so i told the guy i was like i made sure he saw me looking at it a couple times and then i've talked to him about it's like yeah i really

[00:26:15] Just kind of want the engine would you take what what would you what's your bottom dollar he's like well i'd take this much for it i forget what he said i think it was 125.

[00:26:24] So 125 is what he said yeah so i'm like this is where i get annoyed because you stepped away from that when we talked about it before you even said if he gets to 125 i'm gonna take it yeah i did say

[00:26:37] That but it had it had been a while since i had gotten back around and it was still sitting there so i knew that like no one else really was like interested enough in it to pay 125 or 175 certainly which

[00:26:54] Is what was on the piece of tape well and you also said and i i fully understand why you changed your mind on that too and you told me that from the time you said that to the time that he made that

[00:27:04] Offer he said that he had ran it yeah and that's and yeah when so when i told you that i would pay with the 125 that was on the based on the assumption that it was a brand new engine and mounted only well then yeah then later i discovered that he had actually admitted to running it on a bench which being being an engine guy not not knowing how the engine was ran that's very first few minutes those are really really important yeah those are the the break-in period yes make or break yeah exactly so motor so then i was not so excited about the one anyway so i was like

[00:27:41] Now 125 i just really want it for the engine and i walk away and then would what 20 minutes

[00:27:48] Later half hour later i don't know what it was well so this is where we kind of have our discussion too with oh yeah and i was like well i i really want the airplane like i don't care about the motor and then you're like okay well i would be happy paying 100 bucks for the most i was like okay

[00:28:04] I will give you 25 bucks for the airframe right so that's when i went back to talk to him and then that's when he told me that he had run it yeah so then i'm like oh well okay well i'm not sure if i want to pay a hundred dollars for an engine now that and so then we walk away and i'm like hey

[00:28:19] You said you said 100 what are you doing you said you were getting yeah what is going on like i'm like come on what are we doing somebody's going to buy it because that's how i operate it and i'm

[00:28:27] Not good at these and it's okay if somebody else buys it i there will be other deals it's not you're right to me it just wasn't that important to try to pay 25 more than i should have yeah i get it so it's 20 minutes 30 minutes later from when i we talked to this guy or whatever and then so we're down there making fun of making fun of the other guys that ribbon each other and then the guy the owner comes down and says hey and i got an airplane or i got a radio or something i want to buy here if you if you do a hundred dollars i'll sell it

[00:28:59] To you for that yeah he needed cash so he could go buy something else from this so if you wait him out me see you can get the really really good deals i've not had that experience though like for me

[00:29:09] I've waited every time but and it's gone yeah and i wasn't like in love with it i didn't need it if i could do it for the good deal then i would have gotten but see i was hearing the 25 airframe

[00:29:23] So that's what i was and okay and when he went down to 100 which by the way he went down to 100 i still gave you 25 so it was only 75 bucks for that motor you did pretty good i did very good

[00:29:35] I think you did yeah especially now based on the the looking at it inspection yeah i can't wait to

[00:29:40] Run it 2007 i think is what that plane was built right because it came with the actual box yeah which was kind of cool for the engine box yeah warranty card said i think it was march of 2007 and then ironically enough that's right that battery that came out of it also had march of 2007 on it so that plane was built 14 and a half years ago right did i do the math something like yeah 21 27 yeah 14 and a half years ago yes and has not been flown and it's just just there yeah i mean

[00:30:15] That's that's funny that it's been that long since it's been built but never actually flown or done yep so yeah i have the airframe now you do i'm excited about it because i'm going to do an electric conversion which i think will be a fairly simple thing because i think it should be yep i mean that was a heavy airplane with that motor on it because that engine was it's a heavy that's a beefy beefy motor so much so that it had tail weight on it even and i think i can take all that off and and put a a nice outrunner or something on it and yeah have a good electric conversion yeah that will

[00:30:51] Make it a good i think it'll be a good electric plane it's gonna be a fun like i that is what i'm

[00:30:55] Excited about i like that plane a lot so well good i'm glad you got it for 25 i am too hopefully soon

[00:31:01] I can get working on it okay so we talked about what i purchased what did you purchase i only bought

[00:31:07] One thing yeah but you spent considerably more than i did i did i finally at the swap meet i should say at your urging oh it was you push you're pushing no you were trying to get me to spend money i don't sit there with your mouth open like what who me you absolutely were egging me on be honest don't lie

[00:31:30] To me you were not for this purchase you asked me questions and i answered them before i asked you

[00:31:35] That's a good deal you should get that that's a good deal i was just reaffirming your question hey what is going for anyway i bought finally an ix12 yeah so we now have the same transmitter i don't know if i made a good decision or a bad decision because it's ridiculous what that thing does i mean it's it's basic like it's a normal transmitter but it's got so many bells and whistles on it that it's dumb like literally the day i bought it my wife was making fun of me because we

[00:32:08] You're going to bed and i had the transmitter in bed going through it watching youtube videos on how watching youtube videos by the way on the transmitter on the screen on the transmitter yes learning how to program the transmitter how awesome is that in bed that's pretty awesome watching youtube videos on the transmitter i think that's pretty awesome that's dumb why is that dumb why you don't

[00:32:35] Need to do that so here here's why i'm so excited about this purchase for you because you're gonna like learn how to use it and learn all its cool functions and stuff and then you can teach me how

[00:32:45] To use mine see you egged me on to be selfish i did not egg you on but anyway so i thought like i think i got a decent deal on it the guy was asking 400 bucks and i talked to i actually did walk away from that one because i it was early on when i had to process it and i knew like i only had x amount of dollars i brought with me and i didn't know what else was there so i talked to him about it i walked away somebody else was talking to him about it i got scared so i went up talked to him again

[00:33:19] About it and i made the mistake i asked him if he would take 350 bucks and he i mean it wasn't a split second later he's like yes i would and i said you answered that way too quick i should have offered you 300 and he's like i don't know if i would have gone that cheap but yeah i'm like damn so i gave him three i mean that was the deal i made the deal but i i i that's gonna bother you it's forever isn't it

[00:33:47] Not forever knowing that you could have got it for 20 cheaper than what you had spent on it or whatever

[00:33:53] It is the price of the airplane that i bought off of you this airframe it would have been the difference yeah not could have come out it didn't matter it's a wash i still think you got

[00:34:05] A very good deal i hope i did it seems like based on the prices i've seen online yeah i think you did just fine yeah and like i said i'm excited because you'll figure it out and you'll become a

[00:34:17] Whiz at it and then you can teach me i'm excited about like and i know a lot of other transmitters radios i'll have the wireless connections for trainer i think that's going to be kind of cool to be able to ask you to now yeah there's just i mean like really like so the the dx8 i had that i came off of i bought when i first started i mean that was my first real radio when you say had you still have it right yeah i probably will i don't know what i'll do with it because i mean i'm why would you i can't bring myself to get rid of mine i'm not saying i'm gonna get rid of it but

[00:34:51] I'm not going to use it oh i mean like it's i don't program to my stick well for now you could easily reprogram it i could which by the way you lied to me not on purpose but i asked about transferring models over and you said you can transfer from the dx8 to the ix12 you can't that is incorrect the gen one that we both have you cannot transfer files from a dx8 to an ix12 now if we have the gen 2 dx8 or dx18 or any of the newer ones like that you could can oh that is it because

[00:35:23] It's a different file format i just read in the the instructions manual that you cannot do that

[00:35:28] It specifically calls that out i remember reading something somewhere if like if you well i'm sorry

[00:35:35] That's okay i was wrong so i've started reprogramming now oh not everything it's going to be a lot of things where when i get an airplane i have to fly it that's when i'm just going to have to redo it yeah because i'm not getting everything down and and going that way but these new ones i've been working on trying to get them ready they're all going obviously on that on that transmitter but yeah i mean like it does a lot of stuff and it's going to take a long time to learn but it's going to be good like i was thinking down the road too like eight channels is really not a ton of channels for

[00:36:10] Certain airplanes like it's easier to program when you have the extra overhead to be able to use something else so like the tri-motor yeah i don't know like if you're planning on putting that on your transmitter or my transmitter or whatnot but it probably ought to be on the transmitter on whoever's house it lives at which we're gonna be yours we're gonna have to have that discussion because i'm out of

[00:36:31] Room now that's gonna be a big airplane like i don't know you think i'm mr hey let's let's do 10 foot and what wait if we're gonna do 10 we may as well do 11 well if we're gonna do 11 we may as

[00:36:44] Do 12 foot i mean i mean you're right like it's gonna be awesome but that's that's starting to get concerned about area and room because it i'm i'm overflowing like it is it's pretty bad yeah so yeah

[00:36:59] Swap meet was a success i i had a good time it was a good swap meet lots of airplanes there and

[00:37:05] Good purchases our friend reggie bought one yeah he did he bought a because he likes our telemaster so much he bought a smaller version about the 40 size yeah it's a good good flying airplane it's a it's a good looking airplane i like that one too he's got a couple things he's got to do to it but

[00:37:21] Nothing he got he got an extra engine with that i believe too yeah i'm just gonna try to buy which i'm he doesn't want to sell now really that's what he told me well i mean that's

[00:37:29] Probably okay yeah it's okay because he he might like i i don't know why it would come with two engines like is there something wrong with one that's on there like i don't know i wasn't there for that whole deal like i know i don't know i know i we pushed him into buying it because he was just waffling back and forth and i don't know and you could tell he wanted it so yeah we we stepped in and and helped him pushed him over the edge yeah kind of like you did with me with the transmitter

[00:37:55] Mm-hmm but that's okay hear that sound that's how sound of me rolling my eyes oh i thought you

[00:38:01] It was the water bottle because i just crinkle a little bit when i was getting a drink oh

[00:38:05] No bob also bought an airplane he went he bought he went he bought a beautiful airplane yeah like

[00:38:11] What's a biplane you hate it i'm not into biplanes on my own i like the looks of them but i also like i think about all the stuff that goes into them and that's what i don't like but it's a it's

[00:38:24] A beautiful ultimate what size is this is a dave patrick ultimate biplane which is very similar if anybody's still listening to the goldberg ultimate back in the day i forgot we're recording so it's got a has an os 120 four stroke on it so i think the wingspan was like i want to say the top wing was 56 inches i think might be a little bit bigger than that but wingspan is hard to tell

[00:38:46] On a biplane because they're usually a lot smaller for the size of the body yeah but yeah it's a

[00:38:52] Good it's a big airplane it's a very big airplane no tools to disassemble it it was assembled at the swap meet to impress everybody with its size so we were concerned after bob made the purchase how we're going to get this thing home and we couldn't find any tools to take it apart so luckily it fit in the back of back of suburban yeah just barely like i mean that you guys all doubted me i i said it would fit

[00:39:22] No problem i don't think that's how that's not how i remember it i think reggie was the one saying

[00:39:27] It would fit no problem and i i didn't believe it because i used to own a suburban remember okay i know

[00:39:34] What it fit in the back of one maybe i wasn't paying too much attention i was just hoping we would have tools to take it apart if need be but anyway so it was it was a good trip like i i really enjoyed

[00:39:43] It i did too we stayed there for a long time it was it was great because it was close it's only 40 or so minutes from from from your place yeah so it was we were we were home by what two o'clock no we were no we were home before noon yeah so even though you said we were there too too long we were still home before noon well it wasn't that big of a place i mean we literally

[00:40:06] Walked around that probably 30 times yeah i mean not much was changing anything nothing was changing

[00:40:14] Though honestly it's for me it's about i mean i don't want to miss seeing something but also i want to see what's selling like when you walk around you see something missing it's like okay well this sold i remember what the tag said on this one if it was something i was interested kind of gives you an idea you can kind of use that as a gauge to what if you were going to sell something similar what you might reasonably expect to get for it at a swap meet but

[00:40:39] You don't necessarily know what it sold for it could have a price tag of that's true bucks on it and

[00:40:44] Sold for 150. yeah but that's unlikely i mean wouldn't you wouldn't you say that no because the one

[00:40:50] No because the 275 price tag that started that might have been marked down to 175 but you bought it for

[00:40:55] 100 bucks for that thing yeah that nobler that's true so but the 275 i mean we don't know what like it had already been marked down from 275 when we saw it the first yes so it could have had a receiver in it that he took out of it and then discounted the price 100 bucks no i guess you never really know what i'm saying yeah so i have to go by what was on the tape current when i

[00:41:19] Saw yeah i guess i never thought about something being taken out of it or something i just assumed it

[00:41:23] Sat too long and he wanted to finally start trying to move it or maybe he had a a box of servos or who knows you never know not but i like walking around and seeing what's selling too so so what's what's next there's like coming up i mean there's none coming up well there's that big

[00:41:41] One in iowa i think it is that's like jan no is that january february oh yeah that's a ways away there's one in iowa coming up which i don't i mean i don't think i'd mind making that drive if you don't mind and i thought there was another one in missouri but yeah that one was quite a quite a ways away that was almost to kansas right yeah i don't think i think i'm okay with missing

[00:42:02] That one yeah we'll see i get i mean we'll see i don't need to go to swap meets right now i guess i don't need to get rid of stuff i don't need to go to any of them right now you just said you were

[00:42:11] Overflowing i am overflowing and i am broke i have spent to the gills my hobby allowance for

[00:42:18] The next 18 years so we've got if that's your allowance for the next 18 years well you probably got enough to sustain you for a while i gotta buy batteries though yeah like and

[00:42:31] That's yeah i gotta buy batteries all i gotta do is buy fuel which is about the same price as buying

[00:42:36] Batteries is it though yeah some of those bigger batteries there they're a gallon of fuel yeah yeah

[00:42:44] But a battery's gonna last me a lot longer than a gallon of fuel will last you i don't know i've had i got a gallon of fuel that i've had for a long time if we fly the same amount of time i can get more of the battery than you can get out of fuel so that was it was a fun it was a fun day

[00:43:00] Though so yeah i'm happy that you've joined the rest of us in the 21st century with your radio so that's awesome the rest of us wow yeah no you gave me such a hard time for for the period i've owned mine i'm i'm glad that i regret that now we're on an even keel now i i do regret

[00:43:18] That now making fun of me or buying the radio no making fun of you like i i don't think i i should have done that that was a mistake but that's okay anything else you want to talk about are you

[00:43:29] Ready to get out of here no no i'm i'm excited that was a i had a good time just happy we got got some stuff yeah got some stuff i like talking about it i do too like it's cool but what's next

[00:43:44] Then what do we we got to buy something we got to do something right well i got to put an

[00:43:47] Engine on that little airplane i got so i think i'm gonna put a fox i've got an old fox 45 that'd be

[00:43:52] Perfect for that and keep it retro oh yeah the red one or the yellow one the yellow one red and yellow messes with me yeah it does but anyway but no that's that's all i got okay well cool then thanks for listening i think i'm finished until next time i'm ron i'm tom good night good night we
