[0:06] Speaker 3: no you’re just boring hello everyone welcome to the rc plane lab podcast welcome to the end of the year oh if i did that wrong i’m ron there’s so many people here now i’m tom i’m dave i’m crystal i’m laurie so we’ve got two more people joining us because it’s a yearly tradition now to have the wives that want to join the podcast dave’s wife didn’t want to come that’s okay what i’m just
[0:38] Speaker 3: saying like i okay that sounded bad so my point was i don’t want to force somebody to do something they don’t want to do she’s not comfortable doing it right okay so that’s what is okay not the fact
[0:48] Speaker 1: that okay i sound like we got her out for friendsgiving that was that was that was fun so 2022 is almost over i know we did a lot this year though we really did we did why is the music
[1:01] Speaker 3: still playing it’s going quieter can’t you tell it takes a real time here you want there you happy now i’m very happy thank you all it takes actually i’m going to put that back up because i’m going
[1:13] Speaker 2: to forget to do it later so anyway perfect feeling better got a good cough out yep all right so what
[1:20] Speaker 3: happened this year anybody else going to talk or just me just you just waiting for you so crystal graduated i want a round of applause i don’t know what button i can push for applause but it’s on there somewhere so is that perfect so anyway crystal graduated she’s working now and out of school so that’s a great thing cody our oldest graduated and is working now and is out of school another great thing cody moved out moved out so we now have a another room for closer office stuff
[1:52] Speaker 1: to empty nesters they have quite a ways there’s a little bit left for that second step yeah yeah we
[1:59] Speaker 3: still got years and years and years so speaking of empty nesters yeah piper started kindergarten this year so crystal and cody both graduated and piper is just starting just now starting yeah but so that’s starting over you know that’s fine yeah that was i don’t want yeah i’ll see all the good
[2:17] Speaker 1: times you remember about when cody was little you get to relive them all again because you got another
[2:20] Speaker 3: little one there’s so much positive to look at on that see although we could have been empty nesters no i’m well that’s okay i would not change it for anything in the world she is awesome i love her so much so that this is actually the first year for christmas i’m really excited for she was excited too she got her first airplane yeah crystal just look at me like yeah she did no so we you know we had talked before and she said she wanted to learn how to fly she’s been flying a little bit on the simulator um a little bit a little bit but she she’s not like
[2:55] Speaker 3: she didn’t have the the mental focus for it yet but she still has fun in the general realm of flying yeah so why are you looking at me like that i feel so judgy i’m just looking at you because you’re talking so oh there well don’t do that anyway so yeah we got her the ready to fly aeroscout from horizon it’s a new product actually it actually is pretty cool we put it together right before we started recording here i’m impressed with some of the things that are on it so it should
[3:26] Speaker 1: be pretty fun yeah and what you told me about our ix12s like every time you know that like i’m you
[3:33] Speaker 3: telling me something new about it just blows my mind i feel like i’m dumb when it comes to a lot of things when it comes to that because we’ve not done we’ve not done any training like wireless or wired buddy boxing yeah buddy yeah buddy boxing yeah it sounded weird when i said but anyway we haven’t done that for several years um and we haven’t done it since we had the ix12 and so i was trying to look up on stuff on how to do the wireless trainer system and stuff with our ix12s i didn’t realize you can do that as long as the ix12 which it is has the wireless stuff built into it you can do it
[4:08] Speaker 3: with pretty much any other spectrum radio that’s because that other spectrum radio binds to the receiver there’s a receiver there’s a receiver in the ix12 yeah yeah they’re just like yeah you guys
[4:19] Speaker 5: oh my gosh that’s so amazing wow it is kind of nice that you have the cordless yeah especially
[4:29] Speaker 2: when you got a student that wanders around i used to have one that was yanking on my radio all the time as he hit the end of the cord never thought about that uh so yeah i was doing that with ed with the wireless setup when it would work yeah it was kind of hit and miss oh but um yeah it was kind of fun because he was a wanderer as well and i and i don’t wander because you know with one leg i kind of fall over yes i can true yeah stationary days are kind of busy the crutches are coming off limits but uh so yeah i could sit on the startup stand and let him wander around and it worked great yeah
[5:03] Speaker 3: well and see i used to always have problems with my dx8 right like the cable i don’t know if it just didn’t sit right or if it wasn’t plugged in perfectly or what because i would always lose connection yeah like split second it wouldn’t be like oh you know it’s either on or off it was you’d have it you’d be fine and then for a half second you hear the beep where it like sounds like it came unplugged
[5:20] Speaker 1: yeah then it beeped right back like it was fine well i remember i having that issue the last time i used it would have been with cody what not this year but last year i think it was we took him out that one yeah year year before and we were having that issue with it beeping and coming unplugged or whatever it was and that was a dx8 and a dx6 right this would be nice because yeah i don’t have to worry about a physical connection between the transmitters which i think is awesome i’m so excited for you
[5:45] Speaker 3: guys well and what i thought was nice thanks for liking it so the it’s the rtf version so the ready to fly version that comes with everything it comes with the remote which is granted it’s a chintzy remote it’s not one you’re going to want to stick with forever but it feels like a real remote yeah like the dx4 that i had when i first started it did not feel like a real remote it just felt
[6:06] Speaker 3: chintzy cheap like toy like yeah there you go it nothing that you really felt good holding um so this like i said this should be good it comes with everything in the box battery charger
[6:17] Speaker 1: everything so i’m excited yeah pretty pretty neat package i think and for the money too i mean you were breaking down the the price if you bought everything separately oh yeah i mean it
[6:27] Speaker 3: was like 50 bucks more for the rtf version as opposed to the bind and fly and i think the
[6:32] Speaker 1: batteries that it came with are about 30 bucks a piece you get like 200 worth of more stuff almost
[6:37] Speaker 3: yeah yeah because i don’t know how much the charger is i mean it’s obviously just a cheap charger that comes with it but it does its job right it’s when you can plug into your car on the way there because it’s just powered off the usb um and then if you bought the transmitter separately it was like 114 or something like that on horizon’s website so yeah it should be good yeah and i’m gonna ask you trainer yeah yeah i’m gonna ask you tommy to be the one to teach her well i don’t i mean i’m honored but i don’t see why you can’t do it but i my mind does not work fast enough i will confuse her
[7:12] Speaker 3: like turn left i mean right i mean down i mean you’re doing fine whatever so it would be my honor okay good i think she will and that’s another thing i kids that age well even like when cody was trying to fly i think they will listen more to somebody else they’re like some i was gonna say somebody else’s parents but listen more to somebody else than they will their own parents
[7:33] Speaker 6: could be there’s a little bit of a authoritative i can’t say the word authoritative voice where
[7:42] Speaker 3: there’s not the familiarity yeah that i’m not gonna listen to you right now you’re my parent right kind of thing yeah no i get it yeah yep and that should be good cool what else so that
[7:52] Speaker 1: will be one that you’ll have to add to what now will she get her i didn’t know that’s my list will she get her own spreadsheet that’s her list yeah that should be her spreadsheet right i don’t know what do you guys think that’s her spreadsheet my vote is she gets her own spreadsheet
[8:05] Speaker 3: she’s her own yeah yeah okay she gets her own spreadsheet yeah i mean you can obviously keep it up to date for her but well yeah because she can’t quite read yet so she’s getting there
[8:16] Speaker 6: maybe that’s her goal next year to learn excel yeah that should be a good goal i mean microsoft certified aren’t they doing that in kindergarten now i mean come on technology yeah well they’re
[8:28] Speaker 3: anyway kindergarten is interesting yeah a lot has changed since i remember going to kindergarten she loves it though you can remember kindergarten i can’t we made butter we made butter in
[8:40] Speaker 6: kindergarten yeah on purpose or yeah oh okay i learned to tie my shoes in kindergarten with a
[8:45] Speaker 3: churn did you wouldn’t churn did you sell the butter like was this like some sort of no they made us eat it did you have bread saltines here’s butter eat it you’re in trouble and you’re sick you get a stick of butter today we’re going to learn about dairy and all the things you can make of it dave’s kindergarten days way back when easy
[9:14] Speaker 2: why don’t now tommy’s feeling a little yeah old and yeah we had to bring in the aluminum tv dinner trays because i had some sort of art project we made with those yeah in kindergarten yeah i wow
[9:28] Speaker 3: i don’t we must not been the advanced kindergarten because i went to a private school so i don’t know
[9:34] Speaker 1: i remember i remember like three things from kindergarten i remember nap time snack time and recess yeah your three favorites that’s what i remember the card set a tone for the rest of his
[9:45] Speaker 6: life pretty much that’s the truth yeah he never like the snack he does like to nap i know we went
[9:53] Speaker 3: through a bag of doritos while we were getting all the recordings well there’s five of us wait just me
[9:58] Speaker 1: i did feed him before we left maybe half the bag maybe i don’t know yeah it’s empty uh so what else uh so you want to talk about spreadsheets sure i mean that’s what’s next on your week yeah
[10:12] Speaker 6: well i don’t care what order this is just stuff that i’m not going to remember to talk about ron and crystal’s year dave what about your year i got a new job yay but you have yet to work at
[10:22] Speaker 2: because you keep moving me around yeah in fact i’ve actually my uh department’s been changed officially already so really goodness gracious goodness and you’ve been there how long now uh
[10:34] Speaker 5: since may since may nice because it’s not boring we’ve been there for a couple weeks but then you
[10:41] Speaker 1: know yeah it started in may i’ve got about two weeks worth of work in my office yeah nice nice
[10:47] Speaker 6: what about you guys anything new we traveled a lot i traveled a lot yeah you went overseas i did normally he goes everywhere and i stay home not this year that’s about it i only got coveted twice
[11:02] Speaker 1: so that’s good oh we all got it once yeah i think everybody at the table here has been sick this year
[11:08] Speaker 2: yeah i have not had coveted this year i did have the sinus thing right after thanksgiving but that
[11:15] Speaker 1: everybody is getting yeah yeah it seems to be going around i have it now by the way yeah i can
[11:19] Speaker 3: tell you’re coughing and that’s okay but i can’t believe like we all are well enough to sit here and record right now yeah i know because i had there were some times we had to cancel because of me my voice
[11:28] Speaker 6: was just so messed up we couldn’t do it so i brought home the european covid so that was a while ago sometime but he did share his cold with me oh he didn’t share everything yeah i didn’t want to feel left
[11:39] Speaker 3: out yeah of course not i think we got ours from piper that’s another thing we got from kindergarten
[11:45] Speaker 6: it was a lot of sick coming into the house yeah we didn’t kids yeah nope no kids at our house not
[11:53] Speaker 2: anymore no thank goodness not little ones so we just work in health care and drag it home from there
[12:00] Speaker 6: technically i don’t work in the clinical setting you don’t work on the clinical side but you’re still
[12:05] Speaker 2: exposed yeah but i don’t not in a clinical setting yeah not like me where i’m in the clinic all day
[12:10] Speaker 6: every day yeah no i’m not sitting in a waiting room full of sick people crystal’s got her fingers
[12:15] Speaker 3: in everybody’s mouth so that’s even worse she wears a mask and gloves yeah i’m now having to ask people if they’ve been to uganda in the last 21 days really forgive me i didn’t silence that hold on
[12:31] Speaker 6: oh come on ron didn’t weren’t you the one that said airplane mode everybody he’s always the one
[12:38] Speaker 1: airplane make sure your planes are on or your phones are on plane mode airplane mode turn it off turn your phone off there we go hey can you move your phone away from the microphone it might pick up a stray
[12:48] Speaker 3: signal because it usually does it beeps and stuff hey you make me sound like a jerk it’s just funny because you got caught i know and i’m not editing any of this so what happens happens uh so yeah so kind
[13:03] Speaker 1: of a lori got to travel and i went a couple places with work and did the project where’d you all go lori went to germany wait a second back it up i went to hawaii to see you oh yeah this was like at the beginning of the beginning of the year almost yeah hard to tell january february into january beginning of february yeah we rescheduled the recordings and stuff around that i don’t know if
[13:27] Speaker 3: yeah i don’t think anybody else really noticed because we did a good job of um talking about that
[13:33] Speaker 1: yeah so we went to hawaii or i went to hawaii lori met me there yeah and i had to say three extra
[13:39] Speaker 6: days because the blizzard happened here and all my flights got canceled oh i forgot about that yeah yeah you got a little extended vacation because of that wasn’t sad about that yeah so i kept pulling up the cameras at the house taking sending pictures to tom like look at it now right yeah
[13:55] Speaker 1: and look i’m not there and we’re in sunny hawaii and then uh you know fargo so then i went to
[14:03] Speaker 6: phoenix you went to phoenix i did not go yeah for an exercise then you went and then i went to
[14:08] Speaker 3: germany let’s talk into the microphone don’t look at her nobody can hear you you can’t help it so she
[14:13] Speaker 1: went to germany now she went to germany yeah no that’s how they say yes in germany yeah
[14:20] Speaker 6: i did not hear anyone say that when i was in germany but okay we’ll go with it maybe you didn’t
[14:24] Speaker 3: really go apparently wrong i took german in high school two years i don’t remember well i remember the bad words of it so that’s about all i’m not gonna say that’s okay that’s usually what they teach
[14:35] Speaker 1: you like the first couple of days right because all the students are like i don’t know what this means and what that they probably googled it oh wait there wasn’t there was no google there was no
[14:43] Speaker 3: google back then i don’t remember there was a google no i don’t think so i’m not that old there was dog pile like dog pile is the one i used a lot when you guys remember that one no i don’t know what
[14:55] Speaker 2: that is no it’s a search engine never heard of it oh i remember ask gopher is the only old one i remember i think i’ve heard of gopher yeah i remember that one go for it it was asked g used
[15:07] Speaker 6: before it was google there was alta vista i just remember aol i for some reason i oh god for some
[15:14] Speaker 3: reason i always thought alta vista was like for the hoity-toity people i never used it i have no clue why i had that in my in my head maybe it was the name could have been i still have an aol um email
[15:25] Speaker 6: stop it i do it’s crystal but here’s the thing that’s where i use mine i don’t that’s where my spam goes so like if someone says hey put your email address in before you can move forward that’s the one i put in yeah i checked it maybe once every three months and there’s like 20 000 emails
[15:42] Speaker 3: in there that i will never never read well that’s about what crystal has yeah um yeah i do have a lot i know and you just ignore it i did set up with a gmail account now so she’s coming into the that is the one i normally use and i do 90s now i keep it i keep it up to date i kind of use it and still go with me she’s it for her work stuff like that’s her professional one because well yahoo is still okay but in a professional work environment anybody that has an aol actual email address i mean
[16:13] Speaker 3: we like make fun of people all day that see that they’re 80. yeah they’re 80. does that mean she’s
[16:19] Speaker 6: ancient and technology standards you’re ancient okay what the times everybody’s on gmail crystal
[16:25] Speaker 3: yeah speaking of technology because i’m getting bored with this conversation let’s talk about our
[16:29] Speaker 1: spreadsheet i was gonna say there’s something else exciting to happen this year the wives got to see
[16:33] Speaker 5: brian’s place we did we did both made it up we did well i’m gonna say because when you were talking about it it really sounded like it’s this huge building you know this machine shed type thing and
[16:47] Speaker 6: i saw it we drove up were you underwhelmed yeah i was not i was overwhelmed with the amount of stuff
[16:54] Speaker 5: that he packs into that place that too i guess i can say that yeah that’s what i was expecting your reaction of it yeah because it was like you walk in and there’s this mini little skinny trail walkway yeah yeah everything’s just packed on each side of you it’s the product density per square foot
[17:12] Speaker 2: that’s it yeah that is higher than anywhere else yes oh yeah and it’s all great stuff
[17:17] Speaker 6: i’m walking around and you think you can make a lap you cannot no you cannot make a lap there’s a lot of dead a lot of dead ends and it took me a minute to find back where the beginning was
[17:29] Speaker 3: yeah yeah we got it down now like it took us 10 or 12 trips but i’ve got it at least it took me that long because i’m directionally challenged well and then the attic space the attic space well and he
[17:42] Speaker 5: showed me how to go around everywhere so i was good yeah but yeah of course gone the attic space
[17:49] Speaker 6: i was up there at least three or four times and every time i went up there i saw something different oh absolutely i think i’ve been there two times and it’s never the same i don’t know how they move stuff
[18:00] Speaker 5: around i mean it’s like oh i want that plane it’s about you know 30 feet that way how the hell do you
[18:06] Speaker 3: get to it well you take your time and then you don’t say the h word no there’s a lot of moving like we we took a very big airplane out of there when i got the the Telemaster well and i took the cup out of there actually i think that one might have been more buried than the Telemaster wasn’t it yeah so you just i mean you you realize it’s going to take some time to move everything else out of the way you get what you want and then you put stuff back and hope that no harm has been done and i would not want to buy a plane from up there in the summer though it’s not terrible like it’s
[18:40] Speaker 3: not as bad as you would think it’s not you don’t want to be up there all day no it is duffy you can
[18:46] Speaker 1: tolerate it in short periods i think like when we go up there and it’s summertime we’ll go up there do a quick cursory look to see if anything’s new and then we’ll go downstairs and think about what we saw up there i’m just like oh well i think i saw this up there and then you go back
[19:01] Speaker 3: up and oh yeah did you see this no i didn’t exactly well let’s go look at that one too yeah yeah overall it was impressive yeah yeah yeah of course we pull up and chris was like this is it
[19:12] Speaker 5: well seriously what i had in my head it was this huge building so i think tom did a great job of
[19:19] Speaker 6: setting expectations of what i was going to see and a realistic
[19:24] Speaker 1: yeah i tried to paint a picture because i didn’t want her to be disappointed well i did a bad job of painting a picture but the one thing that you said when you um when we got home was um something to the effect of i can see why you like going up there absolutely a hundred percent it’s a treasure hunt yeah yeah yes and you never know what is like sitting just around the corner just because stuff
[19:46] Speaker 6: changes every time you go up there yeah i mean there’s the thrill of the hunt too yeah there’s some stuff
[19:51] Speaker 3: that’s been up there that hasn’t moved but sure most of the stuff that you see up there is new every time you go i don’t know how he changes you know it turns stuff over so fast yeah me either but he does a lot of that and that’s pretty cool yeah and what i love too is listening to like people on our page uh uh what’s this discord discord talking about buying stuff from him and having them shipped to him and all that yeah i don’t know why that makes me happy makes me happy yeah me too
[20:14] Speaker 6: well because it keeps him in business which means you guys get to make more trips oh he doesn’t need us i
[20:18] Speaker 3: don’t think i don’t yeah i don’t think so either well it’s a nice thought we’re gonna keep going absolutely no i mean he doesn’t need us to do all the advertising for him because he’s got a lot that
[20:27] Speaker 1: goes out before us yeah true very true very true speaking of brian’s do you want to talk about how many airplanes were plus and minus or you want to talk about that after we i i well it wasn’t all from brian but that’s true most there was a lot of there was a lot of horse trading between all of us here at
[20:45] Speaker 5: the table too yeah yeah the you know iconic oh i’m gonna go get rid of some airplanes today and come back with however many well we never said we weren’t bringing more home i beg to differ on that one okay there were a couple times that we’ve planned to not bring anything
[21:01] Speaker 1: home i think just about every time we go up there i’m not buying an airplane i’m not bringing
[21:06] Speaker 3: anything yeah well the last swap meet we went to we both said i’m not buying an airplane we both came home with one sometimes when a deal is too good to pass up you just can’t not get it well i think
[21:16] Speaker 6: it’s unrealistic for you to say that anyway which yeah i was just gonna say we’re not gonna make that
[21:20] Speaker 3: promising no i’m not gonna say oh that’s funny because i was i was absolutely prepared to say next time i go up there i’m not buying an airplane wait he just said that because you guys are planning
[21:30] Speaker 6: a trip up there and he kept telling me i’m not buying anything i’m just i’m not buying anything well
[21:34] Speaker 3: i’m not saying that i’m not buying an airplane like i’ve got i’m to the point now where i’m i said no it’s not there might be a good deal like you’re right i might walk up there and see something i fall in love with and have to have but my plan is to not come home with something plans change well i have they do but yeah it does not involve another airplane no so there’s that yeah is that the cryptic thing are we gonna well no we talked about a little bit um yes but nobody else knows oh i do i know nobody else he’s pointing at the board like our five listeners don’t know
[22:07] Speaker 6: what i’m talking about well do you want to know how i found out somehow i got added to the
[22:10] Speaker 1: balsa airplane facebook group i think okay so what we’re talking about is MonoKote yeah apparently horizon is probably not going to carry it or order it i should say so once they’re sold out of their whatever they have in stock it’s they’re probably not going to restock it right and that made it all over facebook and that’s what laurie’s talking about but my plan when i go up there is because i like MonoKote right i prefer it over ultra coat i’m gonna buy his favorite colors yeah everything he
[22:41] Speaker 1: has no i can’t say that because last time i was up there he had quite a bit left i don’t like to afford it but yeah at least a few rolls and my favorite colors some of them are just not good colors so yeah yeah we’re not great i know you know what i mean so that’s what i like our next trip up there i’m probably going to come home with MonoKote a box that are too full of whatever i can
[23:01] Speaker 3: afford so what like what do you have against the china coat cover like a value cover and all that
[23:06] Speaker 1: kind of stuff i don’t really have anything against it except i have so much MonoKote now already and that’s what i use and that’s what i’m comfortable with the value hobby stuff or china code or whatever you want to call it it doesn’t match it’s not exactly the same sheen color or whatever so i don’t want to like mix and match mix up my yeah you know what i mean but at what point when you look
[23:30] Speaker 3: at it eventually yeah no but i’m just saying like from a standpoint of and maybe i shouldn’t look at it this way but monetary value at what point do you keep spending the what is it 20 bucks on a six
[23:42] Speaker 1: foot roll uh there depends on the color as opposed to the a roll of well a roll of white at brian’s
[23:48] Speaker 3: last time i was up there was 15 bucks okay that’s still six feet yeah whereas you can get the value cover 15 feet i know 15 feet for like 11 yeah but then you know that’s if they have it in stock
[23:59] Speaker 1: like how many times have they not had white or black in stock because it’s like one of the most
[24:05] Speaker 3: popular i don’t remember the last place i went it was it’s a there’s a my mind is blank i wouldn’t plan on talking about this but there’s a place up north that has the value hobby in stock and i’ve never seen them out of like normal colors like that when i’ve been looking like hobby king they’re out all the time all the time right yeah so i don’t know their warehouse is the size of my closet
[24:27] Speaker 1: yeah must be king yeah we’re out of room we’re not getting anything else in um but i just i don’t know the monocode is is what i’m familiar with and what i’m comfortable working with so yeah as long as i can get it i’m gonna keep getting it i get and then eventually some point i’ll i’ll switch to
[24:43] Speaker 3: the cheap stuff now isn’t that is that made in england monica like i is that yeah no monocode is made
[24:48] Speaker 1: by a company in michigan it’s actually manufactured in a place someplace in michigan not anymore for well no that’s where it still comes from like the company that makes it they’re not a hobby company oh it’s a company that they do other things so they’re not going to be making it anymore though
[25:05] Speaker 3: or is it just that horizon horizon is not going to be ordering it anymore but that doesn’t mean that other i mean it doesn’t mean they won’t supply someone else we are completely talking by not knowing
[25:15] Speaker 1: anything well that’s true i mean speculate i would speculate that yes some other company could probably hire this company to produce it under their name maybe i don’t know i don’t know what the i guess that’s my question so i don’t know if there’s a patent infringement or if there’s you know i don’t know anything about that is monocode horizon everything has horizon now okay not
[25:36] Speaker 3: necessarily but i mean like monocode because is that only really come from horizon or does that come
[25:41] Speaker 1: from 18 different companies will sell the same okay when monocode when i’m sorry when um horizon purchased hobbyco industries or the hobbyco brand they acquired top flight which monocode is a top flight name brand okay so it only comes from horizon i got you now it’s not proprietary proprietary right
[26:04] Speaker 3: it’s proprietary to horizon now i did not realize that yeah so that’s why it’s a big deal then if
[26:08] Speaker 1: horizon is one that’s going to stop carrying it then well horizon carries two competing brands right they they ultra ultra ultra which is hanger nine which used to be goldberg ultra coat and now they have monoco well they’re you know they’re not going to stop producing what they have already been producing in favor of something that was a competitive or a competitor to them i got you that would almost be like you know if they if they switch to monoco that would almost be like them saying yeah we know our product stinks we’re going to go with this other competitor’s product that used
[26:40] Speaker 1: to be our competitor because it’s better so anyway but yeah and there’s nothing wrong with hanger nine you know with the ultra coat it’s just preferred not my preference okay so anyway yeah gotcha when
[26:51] Speaker 3: we go next trip to brian’s you’re gonna buy some MonoKote MonoKote and well i remember we bought all the the irons he had up there from uh cover right yeah cover right which was also a hobbyco brand
[27:03] Speaker 3: really huh yes i think i have two spares of those now i have one plus a shoe i bought the shoe i did too i don’t know why but just in case yeah well the teflon does wear off eventually yeah so yeah mine’s not non-stick anymore right and even if you use a sock eventually that the teflon stuff wears off well the socks are so freaking expensive for what they are for a tiny piece of fabric that has a tie in it so
[27:27] Speaker 1: i’m gonna give laurie patterns and she’s gonna start making them for me really sure why not do
[27:33] Speaker 3: you like to sew i can sew oh there you go she can start making them for us yeah cotton baby socks and a zip tie yeah yeah i’ve heard of that but i’ve never done the zip tie thing like i’ve heard of people using socks just because of the the size and stuff wouldn’t need to be cotton because polyester
[27:48] Speaker 6: would wouldn’t it polyester melt so it has to be 100 cotton yeah i was gonna say it had to be
[27:52] Speaker 1: cotton yeah makes sense yep or old cotton t-shirts that are worn out or whatever yeah cool interesting you’ll have to make people and we’ll see how it goes sure why not yeah okay you you she just said she would make it so and ron is he expects you to keep your word what is that yeah what is it i don’t
[28:15] Speaker 6: know that’s more as a dig it’s more of a dig at me than it is you oh okay yeah i’m so used to
[28:19] Speaker 1: getting digs oh no no no it’s a dig against me okay yeah it wasn’t a dig against him i’m just
[28:24] Speaker 5: saying you know you make a promise well the way he is okay let me just think about is the plane
[28:32] Speaker 6: shh crystal what plane i don’t know what nothing nothing uh-uh i’m not great on follow through is
[28:39] Speaker 1: what he’s trying to tell you now would be a good time to ask the question oh is that what you’re
[28:46] Speaker 3: talking about lori i forgot all about that lori you’re supposed to be building an art this year it is about judging by what just happened i think i know the answer to this but uh how does it fly
[29:00] Speaker 3: i’m sure it will fly very well when it’s done now if i remember right you guys were out here for friendsgiving which was well over a month ago yeah and i think we had this conversation and what lori said was oh it will be done by the time we record the wives episode so what had happened was i wish we had a video aspect of this so people could see tommy’s face at this point
[29:30] Speaker 6: um so she’s got to get a story straight i know he’s trying to think about it i’d like to say it was because i was sick the past two weeks but that’s a part of it because i had every intention of doing
[29:41] Speaker 3: it what about the last 38 weeks actually it would be more than that wouldn’t it yeah because i was
[29:49] Speaker 6: supposed to do it when he went away in july and then he didn’t go away in july yeah i remember i
[29:54] Speaker 3: remember that you were going to be gone she’s going to do it and surprise you when you got back or not
[29:58] Speaker 6: even surprise you but just have a finished plane yeah so what i want to say about this mostly is that he 100 makes it look flippin easy so full disclosure i thought it would get done in like four or five days no no it doesn’t work that way it doesn’t work that way so he makes it look really easy and there are some things that i think they can improve on on the directions because they’re not very clear the pictures suck and if i didn’t have him to give me little tips and stuff i would not
[30:36] Speaker 6: i would probably not be as far along as i am what i have left to do is attach the she’s really close
[30:44] Speaker 1: actually i’m really close it’s she was close six weeks ago right i mean she hasn’t worked on it
[30:49] Speaker 6: i haven’t but she is really really i am really close he says i have two real hours left not not two tom hours but two laurie hours like really green novice hours left mostly the servos are installed i need to hook up the push rods to the servos and then set it all up and test it that’s basically what
[31:15] Speaker 1: i have left yeah there’s no construction left it’s just final well she’s got the lingo down i do
[31:21] Speaker 6: there are a lot of things that he warned me of that i did not follow i’m just gonna say that right now he said well were you talking to reggie no listen i i fully expected those instructions to be clear and they’re not they are not clear not 100 clear so when it says like a certain size of a screw like there’s nothing in the directions that tells me what size that is like there’s no guide there’s nothing there’s nothing and if they would have told me how many times i would have to install and
[31:54] Speaker 6: uninstall the engine yeah um that’s one and then some of the construction with the servos fitting in where they need to be they don’t tell you hey you may have to cut more out they don’t tell you that yeah um so and then the pictures are in black and white and they’re not very clear pictures
[32:13] Speaker 1: so it’s an older arf right it’s uh i mean it’s an easy sport 40 they haven’t made this thing in 20 years so rfs have come a long way since then and they are much better than that that just happened to be the rf that happened to be a brian’s and i remember that being a really good flying airplane so that’s why yeah yeah but had you chosen or had i chosen a a true trainer like a like a i don’t know what equivalent to an alpha 40 is today but you know what i’m talking about yeah hangar nine
[32:46] Speaker 1: half 40s way easier like they would have pictures in the manual like full size of this is the size screw right you’re looking for right yeah lay it on top of the picture to make sure you know yeah exactly i need our for dummies that’s what i know basically but no i’m with you yeah when when that airplane was produced that’s what rfs were and that’s why it wasn’t easy to get new people to stay in the hobby because of the experience well i can see why it’s difficult yeah it’s difficult and it’s amazing now like you know the aero scout that you just pulled out of the box oh my gosh
[33:20] Speaker 1: like anybody oh yeah put that together yeah like literally i i wanted to put it together
[33:25] Speaker 3: piper and i were going to do it before we recorded today just so we could see how well it went together a couple things happened we didn’t quite get to as early as we wanted to so i threw it together really quick after i got back home i mean literally it was less you pretty much saw the whole thing the the main gear snap into place yeah the the steerable nose wheel i was always drinking the steerable nose wheel had a screw that you put in that’s all that that’s where i think i came in and then the rear stab very simple it’s a square by the way i love the way that’s set up because the
[33:58] Speaker 3: whole stab moves up and down and that is it has a uh like i said a square tube in there so you don’t have to worry about setting any of that up it just went right on slid on it’s friction fit same with the wings the only thing you had to do is put three screws in the wing well hook up the uh the servos for the ailerons and put two screws or three screws in the wing and it’s done yeah yeah mine was a lot more
[34:20] Speaker 6: complicated than that i actually had to glue stuff together yeah well this was an rtf so it was
[34:25] Speaker 3: ready to fly so there’s very minimal assembly but i mean that just goes to show you how far
[34:31] Speaker 1: you know the hobby has come and how easy it is to to get in and well i can say it was 100 an
[34:37] Speaker 3: authentic experience yeah well and extremely everything on like the aeroscout too you can undo so you can store it in a box if you’re not going to fly that’s really cool all that often but there
[34:48] Speaker 6: were a lot of tips and tricks that he told me he’s like so when he gave me the servos it didn’t tell you how to put them together like the packaging it doesn’t tell you it’ll tell you how to put the little the grommets in i did that wrong for years yeah learned that until a couple years ago people do i youtubed it i see them constantly upside down yeah i youtubed it figured it out but like you would think instructions would be on those things but i guess they just assume everybody knows but no nobody knows i didn’t know best thing i ever figured out was putting
[35:19] Speaker 6: them on a ball driver that’s exactly what i did yeah that is a huge difference and then there were some tools that i didn’t know that i needed that he’s like hey this will be easier use this so i can see why if that was the standard back then why some people were just like screw it i’m not doing it because it is it’s difficult and well you all make it look so easy well we’ve been doing
[35:43] Speaker 1: it for right but combined at the table probably 80 years combined uh all of it added all just 10 for me so it’s not been that long 87 so 90 almost yeah i mean i’ve been doing it for 40 almost you’ve
[36:01] Speaker 2: been doing it okay yeah it’s whatever from 1987 today is yeah i don’t do the math i don’t almost
[36:07] Speaker 1: 40 yeah so yeah i mean there you go a lot of a lot of experience that’s why that’s why we make it look easy we’ve been doing yeah well i can tell you and we had to learn yeah and that’s what did it for a
[36:19] Speaker 6: living yeah yeah well and the other thing too is like he let me make the mistakes because it was supposed to be my experience not that he let me but i said why didn’t they tell me that i needed to do this he goes well what did i tell you in the beginning about the instructions read through them and then do it i did not do that i am a let’s just go along and you can’t do that you really have to read through not on our perspective no you have to read through and then i have to think about it and read through it again yeah and then simulate it and then and then actually do it today you can get
[36:52] Speaker 1: away with that you can you can open the book and just start going down the steps and you’ll be fine
[36:56] Speaker 3: they’re so simple no well i mean look way back when too like when that would have been built how much more difficult it was to actually learn to fly yeah it’s not something you could do on your own with you know safe and AS3X now i mean trainers were good back then but they were nowhere near
[37:12] Speaker 3: because you didn’t have the electronics built into it i mean you can only go so far with the design of an airplane right yeah so and i know it’s weird to hear us say that because for the longest time i was kind of against safe and all that but when you wait it’s okay it’s all right good it’s going around i get it it’s you today it’ll be me tomorrow um hopefully not because of that but uh what i was going to say that what we’ll go hit him next yeah he was he was coughing coughing at crystal over there which come this way yeah notice he didn’t cough it at laurie i already got it right so i’m good
[37:47] Speaker 6: spread it back but anyway at where i don’t even know what i’m saying you’re talking about arvs
[37:53] Speaker 1: arvs and safety and safe and electronics and how you oh them forever and i i so lost my train of
[37:59] Speaker 3: thought on that one but i think what i was probably trying to get at was how if you use them correctly like not as a crutch and you just use them to fly and then you don’t worry about safe anymore that’s cool yep i’m pretty sure that’s where you were i don’t know i i know i said it before and i
[38:15] Speaker 6: don’t want to beat a dead horse but anyway overall the experience was good i learned a lot good you’re not done yet and i’m gonna finish it yeah i was gonna say but up until this point i learned a lot like tools what tips and tricks and um i don’t know like when i was doing the fuel tank i was supposed to keep track of which one was like the tubes coming out which one was bent and which one was it because there’s a certain way it has to go into the plane and hook up to the engine and then i didn’t read ahead and figure out that i should have put the tubing on the engine
[38:50] Speaker 6: before i reinstalled it so i had to uninstall it and redo it so yeah it was a huge learning curve um but he did help me when he saw that i was just sitting there looking dumb so he did say do you want some help or what can i help you with or what are you stuck on and for what it’s worth i have offered to
[39:10] Speaker 1: finish it he really has for her he really has she will not let me i will not i am going to finish
[39:16] Speaker 6: it wants to finish it i really want to finish it but here’s the thing your way what’s that no it’s
[39:21] Speaker 3: not in your way no he moved it i moved it out of my way yeah it’s just in a box in the dark side of
[39:25] Speaker 6: the basement no it’s where i can see it so it stares at me when i’m downstairs the thing is i don’t go downstairs anymore but no no i have i have a new toy and i had to make a bunch of shirts for christmas and so that got in the way and we didn’t get any yeah you poo-pooed it that’s right you poo-pooed
[39:42] Speaker 3: the shirt in in our defense i did she didn’t and that was more because i knew so it’s his fault it’s
[39:51] Speaker 6: his fault you didn’t get a shirt crystal so don’t blame i’m jealous so i got a cricket and i’m making
[39:56] Speaker 3: sure it’s like crazy yeah so we have cookie day and when we do cookie day which was last weekend for us here we always push it to the next step every year that we do it we missed last and by
[40:08] Speaker 1: push it to the next step what you’re what you’re talking about is the first year we had uh i forget did we have the binders no no it was just a bunch of printed out recipes and we just we winged it very haphazard yeah and then so the next year we all had cookie binders with pictures on the outside and
[40:26] Speaker 3: then yeah so for this year we indexed and indexed yeah exactly and so we also started not only did we have the binder but then we had the uh uh all the recipes printed separately correct so that we could get everything like the night before you guys wait out yeah you could do that too but anyway wait out it’s difficult to transport yeah maybe yeah because we have but we get all the dry stuff out and have that so it went easier because there’s a lot of people that come out and do other cookies too which correct we realize that we want to try and be as quick and out of the kitchen
[40:58] Speaker 3: for other people but anyway so this year we had banner made yes and when you said something about the shirts i was like how how do we outdo that i mean like that’s that’s the problem and i think that’s what was going through my mind when i was like ah shucks you know shirts and now what pot holders huh pot holders yeah so we did the pot holders we had custom pot holders made up for our annual cookie day and those are awesome by the way yeah yeah and tom and i rolled in with
[41:23] Speaker 6: custom shirts with our names on the back and glitter and that’s when bristol got upset that
[41:29] Speaker 5: she didn’t get one yeah they’re freaking nice everyone will get a shirt next year gonna be as
[41:36] Speaker 1: nice as it was yes we have a new team because we have to step it up i know now what can i do next
[41:42] Speaker 6: year there’ll be collared shirts no no that’s okay i’m thinking ice sculpture oh oh my god butter
[41:54] Speaker 2: i walked in here i’ve never seen so much butter in my life there was a lot of butter dave was new
[41:59] Speaker 6: to cookie day this year so it was an experience for sure it was a lot of fun between all the people
[42:05] Speaker 3: that were here we made over a thousand cookies that is correct that’s a lot that was our goal
[42:09] Speaker 6: our goal towards the end of the day we wanted we’re like crystal hurry up make some sugar cookies
[42:14] Speaker 3: we need to get to a thousand we’re at 968 what are you doing come on but the bad thing is though now all the stuff that we made that’s now just sitting over there has been sitting out for a week and
[42:25] Speaker 1: we’re going to probably throw 200 of them away you need some better storage because ours are fine oh
[42:30] Speaker 5: that’s exactly what i was well i think all the cookies in the bags are okay just the cookies that he made and he put in yeah well but it’s funny though because like i made them and i that’s how
[42:40] Speaker 3: we you know we all we all had our own recipes we were doing so the ones i made yes i put them in a little foil pan and covered them and then i kid you not it was after it was almost a week sitting out she’s like you really should have put those you should have put them in ziploc bags so they would last longer you could have told me that the day after i made them not a week she thought you were going to eat them before it got to that point i think honestly i think i have had a total of maybe eight cookies oh i just wish i could i don’t eat sweets all that much tom had to replenish the chocolate
[43:11] Speaker 3: chip cookies i did i made more you made more i wish i’d known you could have had ours he 100 made
[43:18] Speaker 6: more i made another batch he texted me i was at work days later i think i was he was awful last week and he texted me uh i’m making cookies because i ate all the chocolate chip cookies so good though
[43:28] Speaker 1: yeah my favorite i did i can’t eat a lot of sweets yeah they’re good so yeah so should we go to should we go what’s it like getting met so what’s the new the new uh completion date for the arf
[43:39] Speaker 3: oh yeah realistically a realistic one yeah hold on will you have that finished or will i have a jet
[43:46] Speaker 6: first it will get finished here’s the thing do i want to tackle it when he’s not home probably not because he he’s told me a million times if you mess it up we can always fix it we can always fix it but
[44:02] Speaker 3: and you got i don’t and i that can help if you don’t want to mess it up i don’t you’re to the point now where you really cannot mess it up that’s true really i mean like what if what if i cut the push rods too short then you get new push rods we have packages of
[44:17] Speaker 6: them that are boxes of them yeah it’s it i think i just don’t want to fail but i’m already failing
[44:23] Speaker 5: by not finishing so i mean no you’re not failing oh she’s you’re just you know going at it i’m going
[44:30] Speaker 6: very slow because considering i thought this would be done in a week well consider this i mean i i need
[44:36] Speaker 1: to be in the workshop to finish one project i have going on now and then i need to start the electro streak
[44:41] Speaker 6: project so so i’m going to be down there okay so when you’re finished up with the project you have
[44:47] Speaker 1: then i will pop in you can pop in before that like i can finish like the project i’m working on now i can move out of your way easy okay it’s like if you wanted to go work on it tonight i totally can accommodate i have to work tomorrow oh well i can’t do it tonight because of some reason you’re
[45:05] Speaker 6: working from home you can take your computer down there like i do when i’m working from home i’m working from home you don’t have to go to work no i do not i do not have to go to work yeah you can
[45:16] Speaker 5: just like roll yeah exactly roll out of bed and i’m going to be working in leggings and slippers and sweatshirts there you know you can stay sweatshirts i’m going to wear more than one
[45:26] Speaker 6: what’s cold downstairs it does get cold okay all right so i will be super super super not
[45:32] Speaker 1: pushy but motivational please for you to finish this by january what’s the difference okay january one okay one okay so that you can maybe i can maiden it on new year’s day oh okay
[45:46] Speaker 6: that would be nice but what if what if i did not install something properly and it does not work what if what if the engine doesn’t start what if i what if i messed up the gas tank installation he’s
[46:00] Speaker 1: going to look at it yeah you’re going to look at it all before yeah i will proof i will check all of
[46:05] Speaker 6: that you’re going to check all of it and not judge me no it’s your first airplane i’ll judge you but
[46:12] Speaker 6: you’re already judging me because i’m not done so what difference does it make right yeah you’re going to be judging yeah just okay you want to be january one yes i will get it done all right well technically i mean i’ve heard that before so okay but i had shirts that i had to make for christmas and then i had another shirt thing that i had to do for friends i know and then i got sick i know it’s there’s just a
[46:33] Speaker 3: lot of yeah we had to make our christmas day shirts that were epic fine i get it i mean excuses are like
[46:40] Speaker 6: what i’m not going to say that excuses everybody has one thing oh yeah oh yeah i’ve never heard it
[46:48] Speaker 1: that way before i’ve heard it opinions opinions are like those oh wait that’s what it is
[46:57] Speaker 3: never mind well it’s fitting on the other one too is no you’re not an idiot
[47:08] Speaker 6: okay by january one so maybe tom can made it what year january one what year 2023 2023 okay write it
[47:15] Speaker 1: down well it’s i mean the highlight of my year was them seeing the hobby shop that she talked about
[47:24] Speaker 6: all the places she traveled yeah well okay because i never go anywhere i never get to go on cool trips i never get to go anywhere on cool trips all the time wait a minute i’ve never been out of the country is this that’s true i’ve never been out of the country and i’ve never been to hawaii so okay hawaii is in country technically yes it is part of the united states but oh conus oh but it’s a really long flight over an open so even longer if you take a smaller plane it then travels fast that’s
[47:56] Speaker 1: true true you were going to say something i was trying to move on okay let’s move on we had a lot of guests this year we did with a lot of guest episodes those were fun i learned a lot from new stuff because of gliders that works gliders the bad air things yeah what like the electro streak that got us turned on to that the high point the high start you knew what i meant i was very close
[48:26] Speaker 6: yeah you got in your steps for doing that yeah until you brought out the golf cart that was that’s
[48:32] Speaker 3: the way to do it yeah i don’t know though the the high start just seemed like too much work even with
[48:37] Speaker 1: the golf cart it’s a lot of work do you agree i like power gliders i think yes but i think on on days where you have the right conditions for like thermaling that’s true i think it would be a lot better because your flights would be longer than a minute yeah the 35 second flights didn’t really
[48:56] Speaker 3: cut it for me um well yeah lift off and one longer on toe than you did yeah exactly yeah the lift off you make one circuit and then you land that’s about all we were getting out of it but i think if we if
[49:07] Speaker 1: we did it in the right conditions like a hot summer day where we’ve got lots of you know activity and yeah i think we could make that work because you know i actually know what it’s like now to find a thermal and ride it thanks to dave yeah so i think if we could do that you can make it work but
[49:23] Speaker 3: yeah power gliding power gliding is so much easier i don’t see a reason i mean i really don’t see a reason not to have a power glider because you can sit in the shade and just fly it well no but i mean like why you would have a non-power glider versus a power glider because yeah you get a little bit lower to
[49:41] Speaker 1: the ground for here there are well that’s true yeah you’re right that it makes a lot of sense to
[49:46] Speaker 2: not yeah power glider or a slope soaring type of yeah you know because for us keeps you from making
[49:52] Speaker 1: that long walk of shame out into the corn yeah that too um but yeah i’ve been i’ve really enjoyed the guest episodes more than i thought i would yeah it’s it’s gotten me out of my comfort zone which
[50:05] Speaker 3: you have been pushing me to do so it’s a good thing yeah it’s fine you guys spent a lot of time out
[50:10] Speaker 1: the field this year yeah yeah we did some really cool stuff this like the toledo swap meet i’m
[50:14] Speaker 3: sorry no i was just gonna say with the guest thing though the thing that i’m most excited about and i will come back to it because of the guest episode i get to fly jets next year yeah you will not hear the end of that until it’s over and then actually when it’s over you’re not gonna hear the end of it
[50:28] Speaker 1: either that’s fine because i’ll have to hear about how cool it was and how this jet i’ve got is so awesome and tom when are you going to get one no no i don’t have one that’s why i know that’s what i’m going to hear when it gets to that point no it’ll be here tommy fly my jet anyway yeah so we i i feel like we did a lot of cool stuff this year uh i did because of the podcast i mean i don’t think we would have gone to toledo no had it not been for us doing this actually a lot
[50:56] Speaker 3: of everything that we have done has been because of the podcast a lot of the new airplanes that i bought has been because of the podcast there’s just been a lot like this is huh oh yeah maybe we
[51:05] Speaker 1: should like not do the podcast what we spent a lot of money because of the podcast i know what is that oh my god that look my gosh so i’m not gonna say it yeah she just said it’s okay so i
[51:20] Speaker 3: know it is okay and it’s gonna get better and more expensive as time goes on not really because you’re
[51:27] Speaker 1: gonna net zero or net minus something next year yeah as long as you have the money well yeah i mean
[51:33] Speaker 3: i’m not freaking going into debt to get any of these things that’s dumb yeah who would do that i don’t know who would do that at all anyway but yeah i think a lot of the stuff that has has been brought on because of the podcast has been a lot more fun to give us stuff to talk about yeah and once again because of talking to other people it’s opened my eyes a lot to other things that are out there so yeah i’m appreciative
[52:05] Speaker 1: of that it’s kind of cool i would never have in a million years thought i would be interested in having a glider i know me neither but i love it it’s like especially hopefully mine turns out and hopefully i get to fly it before the end of the year but hopefully mine turns out as good as yours does and this is fun as yours i like flying yours i think it’s going to be just as good if not better
[52:25] Speaker 3: if it’s as good then i’ll be super happy because it’s nice and light like mine yeah unlike the vista grand which is heavy that kind of turned out to be a disappointment well yes and no i haven’t given it the fair shake yet yeah i will do that before i decide if i’m going to keep it or get rid of it
[52:43] Speaker 1: okay so since we’re talking about airplanes let’s i want i really want to talk about our spreadsheets
[52:49] Speaker 3: okay now let’s go back to our spreadsheets all right so how many days hold on let’s talk about
[52:53] Speaker 6: your oh you didn’t keep one i have one he has a mental note of what he’s done this year
[52:59] Speaker 2: it’s got two lines for every airplane would you like to write something down you got lines between
[53:04] Speaker 3: it so it’s like a spreadsheet looking thing all right what do you want to talk about let’s go well i mean what what’s the first thing read what do you want to say about let’s talk about the total
[53:15] Speaker 1: number of flights for the year okay dave you you keep track of that at all spanked me no no okay it would be kind of interesting though yeah that’s i did keep track i’m guessing i’ve got a hundred
[53:26] Speaker 2: plus i bet it’s more than you think honestly wait are you talking about total number of flights or
[53:33] Speaker 6: total number of different airplanes flown total number two different numbers total number wow
[53:40] Speaker 3: total number of batteries charged to discharge got it it’s a flight okay or tanks of fuel okay oh
[53:49] Speaker 2: sorry yes look at the uh timer but well that would be time though not necessarily yeah but it’s you can do you can map it out yeah you could fly is give or take five minutes i don’t fly very long in time you can map it out it’ll be fine unless it’s the cub i like to fly that a long time because it
[54:10] Speaker 1: lasts a long time with the amount of fuel does so my total number of flights let’s let’s say dave’s is 120 that sounds fair i only had 85.6 tell them about the point six yeah how do we get to point six well you see so like not every flight is a takeoff and a landing like sometimes a flight gets you know it’s a takeoff and an arrival
[54:41] Speaker 1: okay so you know the voodoo mustang let’s take that for example uh apparently the second flight it was not the first flight it was the second flight where i flew it into the shed it was the second flight so i count that as half a flight so 0.5 what’s the point one honey and the point one is uh so i had to figure out some way to annotate and count it as an attempted flight like one of my foam uh f4s the one the dave built for me many years ago which is a great great flying airplane
[55:16] Speaker 1: when it’s properly launched um so that one flew about three feet so i count that as point one oh well who launched it wrong oh i mean we’ve already i don’t i mean he
[55:29] Speaker 6: feels bad i was there that day and i watched it and the look on your face doing it wrong
[55:43] Speaker 3: that doesn’t look right oh my gosh i was just like piece of the airplane in my hand did that just happen
[55:50] Speaker 6: and yeah did that just happen and then the other weird thing is when daniel’s plane fell apart that was the same day wasn’t it when daniel’s plane fell apart in midair nope that was a different day
[56:01] Speaker 1: yeah i was i was out of the field a lot more this year in ron’s defense we had not worked out adequately ahead of time the launch procedure and i hate launching other people’s planes because
[56:14] Speaker 3: of hand launching other people’s out of the three times i think i’ve hand launched something for you
[56:18] Speaker 2: twice have ended with a negative to be you know the f4 is not the easiest thing to launch there’s not much to hang on to there well well and i think the other thing is like seriously when you went to
[56:31] Speaker 3: full throttle i was not ready for you to go to full throttle yet and that just made the whole thing like around yeah pivot around that point i was holding on to so i didn’t throw it it just came around and technically i was still holding on to the airplane that i had in my hand true so you had
[56:48] Speaker 1: a piece in your hand in ron’s defense the the launch handle it did uh detach from the airplane and before i was able to before you were able to actually yeah and the rest of it so it made it like like a long dart three to five feet so i count that as point well do we do we count altitude loss
[57:06] Speaker 3: because i was holding it probably six feet in the air no oh you got to go actual distance it was like a long dart yeah 85.6 what about your what’s your number like how many uh i had a total of 157 flights oh my goodness that’s awesome it’s not as much as i was hoping that’s the most flown as much as i wanted to recently yeah but the weather has been terrible it has been uh yeah but compare it to last year i don’t remember last year are you kidding me like i can’t remember last year last year we flew
[57:34] Speaker 6: like three times but i remember the last wives episode you both said we wanted we want to fly more this year we want to i agree we did we want to be at the field more this year and tom was out there all day for father’s day i said what he wanted for father’s day and he said i want to be left alone to do whatever i want and i said say less so he did he went to the field and literally spent all
[57:56] Speaker 1: day and i posted that on facebook too yeah yeah he was and i was i flew like well i’m sure it’s
[58:02] Speaker 6: on here if i remember correctly uh five of the six that you flew that day were maiden flight maidens
[58:08] Speaker 1: yeah so how about that how many maidens this year oh
[58:15] Speaker 2: let’s see i don’t keep track i’ve flown you know my own i could say but i fly a lot of maines for other people now it’s gotta be your own stuff i don’t count other people’s maidens yeah yeah so uh eleven eleven wow do you have a uh well i got uh five or six new airplanes this year so
[58:36] Speaker 3: five or six five or six see a spreadsheet would help you know if it’s five or six we’re gonna go with six um i’m at 20. 20 maidens 20 maidens holy smokes that’s awesome and i didn’t even get through all the ones yeah okay i have some to me i have a lot uh so left you guys i see your spreadsheets
[58:56] Speaker 6: nicely done on these and like color coded so out of all the planes how is ron’s better i mean look at yours yours is colorful and like ron’s has more info he has more info more colony how can you read
[59:09] Speaker 3: that that’s why i had to print this other thing so i can see the the gist of it so out of all the
[59:14] Speaker 6: planes on there how many do you have left that were not flown like what’s your number on the spreadsheet how many were flown and how many were not flown well i can tell you that too yeah i flew
[59:26] Speaker 1: i flew all but four night how many are on there uh the total number i’ve not let me i’ll add them up
[59:32] Speaker 3: while you’re coming up with these real quick see my spreadsheet automatically adds all this together and puts it in another column just so you know so anyway that’s why aren’t you fancy i am fancy he can teach piper how to use excel there you go so i only flew 25 different planes out of 37 ready to go so i had 12 i did not fly this year so i have 31 that are ready to go but that
[59:55] Speaker 1: doesn’t count the ones i flew this year and sold so i didn’t keep track of that but i think that’s another six so 37 would have been my number also and four you have not flown and out of that 37
[1:00:06] Speaker 3: and four i have not flown oh yeah that’s not fair then because i forgot about that some of the ones i got rid of would have counted towards how many different planes i flew so i don’t know i don’t know what the total is on what i’ve got versus the microphone okay what’s your in and out
[1:00:21] Speaker 6: number so how many have you sold versus how many you brought in oh uh so i brought in uh 11 and i
[1:00:29] Speaker 1: got rid of 10 so i’m net plus one for the year dave do you know uh net one okay well i got rid of
[1:00:38] Speaker 3: i got rid of 12. how many did you bring in isn’t that awesome i got rid of 12 honey negative 12 and then add 26 to that oh my god
[1:00:51] Speaker 2: it actually has to be one every two weeks that’s half of my fleet
[1:00:57] Speaker 3: what’s that look for but did you caught the negative 12 right the negative 12 were expensive planes and the plus 26 were cheap oh yeah yeah and if we count pipers which however that’s going
[1:01:09] Speaker 1: that would be that’ll be no that’s piper’s spreadsheet so she’s plus one for the year okay
[1:01:16] Speaker 5: good see don’t be adding your planes to her spreadsheet yeah they’re not pretending that oh
[1:01:22] Speaker 3: they’re hers honey they’re hers there is another one that has to go on her spreadsheet that little yellow and blue hybrid thing the one that she colored the wings on but that’s yours oh yeah no i gave that one to her see every transfer title on that yeah i did that was the one brian
[1:01:38] Speaker 6: gave us when we were up there did you pay the transfer fee on that he gave us that and two or
[1:01:43] Speaker 3: three other ones yeah okay and we made one decent one yeah no actually i got three of those i only got rid of one of those oh oh that’s right the bonanza is one of them and then there was another one there was but i can’t remember what it was i thought either way but yeah so that one i gave piper that we need to go through but that was one that tommy and i have both flown and it’s just it’s had its gremlins so i don’t want her to fly that as a first one and then end up getting disappointed because she crashed it yeah which it’s not necessarily her fault because tommy has crashed it and i have
[1:02:18] Speaker 2: also crashed it you’re gonna say it’s made several it’s made arrivals yeah
[1:02:25] Speaker 3: not pretty landings but uh yeah anyway yeah so we i mean we’ve well it’s durable if you’ve all crashed it oh we’ve had to fix it there’s so much glue on there right now and that like i said that’s the other thing i didn’t want her to start off with something that could possibly give her a negative
[1:02:42] Speaker 5: view of what she was doing so the one you just bought that’s a good one yes that’s made the one
[1:02:50] Speaker 1: for the aeroscout yeah that’s a very good one okay yeah that’ll be is it durable yeah for a foamy it will be yeah it’s about as durable as you’re gonna get the thing that they did with that one too
[1:03:00] Speaker 3: that makes it even more beginner friendly what i did that right in the microphone i’m sorry everyone wants to hear your nose snot yeah but anyway um one of the things they did with that one is instead of having it be a regular tractor type airplane where their propellers on the front it’s a pusher so that keeps the propeller behind the wing so it doesn’t break so if yeah if you nose it in or if you you know edge over or whatever you’re not going to hit or have a prop strike and
[1:03:28] Speaker 6: break the propeller well tom’s mustang is made of foam and he flew it into a shed and glued it and
[1:03:33] Speaker 3: was flying it the next day so nice but it weighs like nothing yeah there’s not a lot of inertia that
[1:03:40] Speaker 1: airplane i feel like that airplane will give piper the best chance of success good yeah i think so i mean really with you at the helm teaching all that kind of stuff the airplane in general because of all the electronics that are you know the safe and the AS3X and and the design of it yeah being i think that’s about the best chance she’s going to get at being successful is that airplane yeah i do
[1:04:04] Speaker 3: too and what’s what’s funny with her though like i cannot get her to really want to go out to our field like she just does not have fun at our field she just i don’t it’s just plain i know
[1:04:14] Speaker 6: i don’t understand it whatsoever well she’s got a swing set outside here and if she doesn’t want to
[1:04:19] Speaker 3: do it no it has nothing with that no no i don’t mean like i mean our flying field not oh got it got it got it but this year tommy you and i joined monticello model masters in monticello she really digs that place she loves that i mean like it is so funny because we were looking at well when we were flying on a simulator she’s like that’s eli field i was like you actually know where that is you know that it’s so it’s so cool we were watching a video of uh there was one posted on of ali the other day and we were watching on youtube and she’s like i know him and then that’s when she’s like
[1:04:55] Speaker 3: when can we go back i was like okay so if you’re actually wanting to go i don’t want to do anything to push her away from that right yep so if she shows some interest this is the time to get her something that’s fitting for what she needs yeah and i think that’s right airplane even if i have to take it to uh monticello every time to fly well eventually you know i would hope
[1:05:19] Speaker 1: that she would get to a point where she likes flying as much as you know that airplane you can fly right out here yeah you’re right or yeah i’m sorry whatever correction it is yeah yeah um you know what i mean oh there’s plenty of room here once you know maybe when she gets to that point she’ll be you know comfortable flying at home and then like you said laurie when she gets bored or whatever she has got her swing set here and now it’s all that so yeah it’ll be good yeah like i’m looking forward to that so spreadsheets do you want to like your do you want to make any changes to the spreadsheet for
[1:05:50] Speaker 3: 23 like your spreadsheet no actually i don’t think i’m going to well i’m going to make changes to mine
[1:05:55] Speaker 1: well yeah because yours is inferior well yeah to make it more up to speed um but mostly what i was talking about was like the content that’s on the spreadsheet not the information that’s on it but
[1:06:08] Speaker 3: the things oh like how many planes are there yes yes next year i i really plan on getting rid of a
[1:06:13] Speaker 1: bunch of them okay i said it seems like 2022 for me has been a year of expansion i’m writing this down are you going to have him sign it yep ron said he’s going to get rid of airplanes next year
[1:06:26] Speaker 5: i really like i should have done anytime they go up to the hobby shop have them sign a paper i’m not
[1:06:33] Speaker 2: getting any more planes you got to sign a waiver to go say i would not sign that i’m sorry hold on
[1:06:38] Speaker 1: you never know i mean that’s the thing he did so he said i’m going to get rid of planes next year he didn’t say that i wasn’t replacing that i wasn’t also going to get planes next year so our so the goal is to shrink your list or make it bigger oh definitely to shrink it okay i mean
[1:06:52] Speaker 3: honestly there there’s too many that there it seems like right now there’s more quantity over quality like i have a lot of planes that i don’t like to fly or really
[1:07:06] Speaker 3: care about like i shouldn’t say care about like they’re not your favorite i would not miss them if they were gone and that was something that i picked up this year too like it used to be even at the beginning of the year like the more the merrier i don’t care what it is i would like to have it but after flying some of them seeing what they fly like there are just some that don’t fit what
[1:07:27] Speaker 1: i like so you don’t want like a room full of of ultra sports or or ultimate biplanes i’m talking to you trevor me the comment you made you know you know talking about that we’re all like six of them
[1:07:40] Speaker 3: that he has and they’re all red yeah yeah i know it looked like the same plane that what we’re talking about somebody on this board posted a picture um of his airplanes hanging there and yeah there was what five or six of them that looked like the same airplane over and over and over and over again which i can’t really say anything because i like yaks and i have a bunch of yaks but they’re different they’re not all the same yak you know same size same brand but anyway um no it’s going to be next year to hopefully get rid of some to make storage easier and there are just
[1:08:13] Speaker 3: some i don’t need so you should be negative net next year i would expect to be at this point yeah so
[1:08:22] Speaker 1: he’s going to be minus something for next year that’s my current goal okay it is written down
[1:08:29] Speaker 3: and then the year after it that’s the reason the jet that’s the jet year the turbine year i like the fact that you’re not rushing it well i mean there’s yeah there’s honestly there’s a lot to be said about i know that that’s not where i am right now like i am not comfortable monetarily i’m not comfortable skill wise to spend that much on a single airplane and worry about crashing it yeah so it’s going to
[1:08:56] Speaker 1: be a long journey it goes back to what you say and i guess we both all three of us have said it in the past um if you’re uncomfortable or if you’re if you’re if you feel some kind of way about crashing this airplane or that airplane then you shouldn’t fly this airplane or that and it’s not as fun and not you’re not at that point yet yeah jet i get it and and i i like the i appreciate the fact that you’re you’re actually going to take your time and you know you have a plan work up to it yeah yeah
[1:09:24] Speaker 3: you’re not rushing it like well my the only plan i actually have is just i’m not getting anything till 24 so you know but i mean there’s so much i think that’s going to change between now and then on really what’s out there yeah what’s a good jet to start with what’s something to look into i just i i don’t know so when it gets like i’m not even looking at that at all right now i’m not looking at engines i’m not looking at airframes i’m not looking at any of that kind of stuff well there’s
[1:09:51] Speaker 1: a lot to learn i mean i know there’s there’s no harm in like educating yourself now because i don’t feel like i have the time for that right now oh so really you’re gonna you’re gonna need to know what to budget for because you’re gonna when you get to that point you’re gonna know hopefully what whatever it is yeah wanting to put together is going to cost you and i’m not wanting to
[1:10:11] Speaker 3: jump in with like a huge fancy you know right really big expensive jet i just want a nice like a the boomerang elon or something yeah like a trainer type jet you’re right so i think so the ball on the bottom oh yeah but anyway so just something that yeah will grow with me and that can get pushed off to somebody else once i’m done with it yeah and then you know sell it and move on and then
[1:10:37] Speaker 1: move on yeah i think that’s uh that’s a a good plan so your plan is to be net minus next year i yeah i
[1:10:45] Speaker 3: mean honestly looking at my list that it’s gonna have to be that way net zero net zero zero hmm what
[1:10:51] Speaker 1: about you um you know to be honest i i kind of feel the way ron feels i i feel like i have a lot of airplanes that i like but they’re very similar so i feel like i want to say i would like to be net
[1:11:06] Speaker 6: minus you might be net minus or net zero because you don’t know what’s going on next year with work
[1:11:15] Speaker 1: true yeah so um but uh yeah there’s still time to get that going early well yeah but i mean like i’m you know just just looking at what i’ve got on my list here there’s there’s a lot of airplanes here i feel like ron feels i’m not like really connected to like you know like my big pits that’s a great airplane i love it i really thought i would too many wings i really thought i would enjoy it more than i actually do i mean i like flying it but i really like flying the big old or the dave patrick ultimate better so there’s one i can i feel like i could get rid of the pits and not really miss it too much
[1:11:50] Speaker 3: yeah kind of just get down to your favorite yeah exactly so there’s another one i think you is going to change your number did you count the striker that i got off of you is that another one
[1:12:01] Speaker 1: that needs to be negative on yours um no because i didn’t have it on my list okay so but but i mean it’s one difference you know whatever well then you’d be net zero yeah it wasn’t truly ready to fly until i made it ready to fly before i gave it to you so it was never really on my list never made it okay yeah that’s fine i think it was on my two repair list actually at this point or i got it
[1:12:24] Speaker 2: or i have to get rid of one because i’m coming up plus one on the east streak yeah the striker was
[1:12:30] Speaker 3: under my right i forgot about that instruction so we’re gonna have plus one beginning part of next year anyway starting off with the east streak oh that’s right dang it i guess i mean it’s not a
[1:12:43] Speaker 2: bad thing dumb thumbs one into the ground new year’s day there’s still hope then let ron launch one for you oh i’ve seen dave he just likes to fold wings it’s okay ouch yeah well you saw the east streak
[1:12:58] Speaker 3: wings so i know there’s no folding that one oh i don’t know have you seen him fly have you seen
[1:13:03] Speaker 1: the motor that’s going on the prop that’s on that it’s going to be ridiculous you want to talk about
[1:13:07] Speaker 3: the east streak thing really quick or not yes so i’m excited about that i think that’s going to be fun i do too um starting pretty much whenever i get kits cut and and ready to go out which should hopefully by the time this come out or comes out they will all be done um and shipped i mean just anybody that wants to build go download the plans and build with us join the website join in um it’s gonna be fun to kind of keep an eye on other people’s progress yeah if you have questions we’re all doing the same thing so we’re someone is going to be at that same step to where we can help
[1:13:39] Speaker 1: now i just i just want to put this out there it’s not like a a first time kit builders kit
[1:13:45] Speaker 3: nor is it a race this is right yeah it’s not a race um yeah dave i’m trying to find all the bugs
[1:13:51] Speaker 1: before everybody else i appreciate it it’s a short kit so what ron is going to provide it’s basically the ribs and the formers for the fuselage and that’s it like the rest of it will be up and planner but yes yeah you’ll get a set of plans um the rest of it will be up to the builder so you’ll hopefully uh you will have some building experience before you attempt this well by the time this
[1:14:13] Speaker 3: comes out there’s no ordering the kit anymore so it’s just true you’re building from scratch but join
[1:14:18] Speaker 2: us anyway yeah sorry i didn’t mean that’s okay but it is a double taper semi-symmetrical yeah it
[1:14:23] Speaker 1: will be a very difficult wing to build on a flat building board and not build a twist in it yeah so ideally you’ll have an adjuster jig you can do the wing on if not um you can they can be had they do pop up for sale from time to time for less than what i paid for mine ron likes to point out
[1:14:42] Speaker 3: no i still i don’t know if crystal and laurie know that story so with the adjusto jig that is a it’s a fixture for building wings and fuselages but mostly for wings yeah um very handy tool i’m familiar with it i’ve seen him use it yeah i had never heard of one until we went to one of tommy’s friends was moving and getting out of the hobby and he called us back into his garage and pointed up to it and said tommy do you want this and tommy’s like no i i really don’t have room for ron is that
[1:15:15] Speaker 3: something you’d want so i was like sure am i remembering this right by the way okay i’m just making sure and so i was like sure i have no clue what this thing is but i’ll take it so i got it home and that’s what i used to build the wing for the uh dualist the dualist all three of them
[1:15:33] Speaker 3: sorry touche you got me on that one zing but you can’t bat it so good job um i like said i fell in love with that tool i i love it we’ve 3d printed different standoffs and stuff for building fuselages and all that and when he says we he means him i didn’t as a general we have um but anyway so then tommy decided he after saw how i was using it how super much at work decided he wanted one i don’t remember where you found was it brian’s yeah and it was not free let’s put it that way
[1:16:07] Speaker 3: so i think i offered to split the cost with you because of how everything went down because you felt
[1:16:10] Speaker 1: guilty i did but uh i mean even even what i paid for it i mean it was it was the gory at 75 i think is what i think that’s that’s the number i think i think that’s about what they were when they were brand new yeah so i mean they do pop up for sale so if you want one just keep an eye out on rc groups
[1:16:27] Speaker 2: or facebook marketplace i love them yeah but you can build this wing without this it’s just you’re
[1:16:33] Speaker 1: gonna pay a lot more attention yeah yeah you’ll have to prop the spars up or figure out some way to to keep the ribs in alignment on your table but yeah the the folks who the kit you know the folks who are buying them i believe have you know enough from talking to them they have the skills to to
[1:16:50] Speaker 3: accomplish it so oh they’re building our stuff you mean yeah yeah the one they the stuff we’re actually sending yeah well that and i’m also going to be sending along with them the spacers if they don’t have the adjusto jig where they can build it flat on the table perfect but anyway good deal yeah i’m
[1:17:04] Speaker 1: excited about it it’s going to be a lot of fun so and so many different directions we can go with
[1:17:08] Speaker 3: i know i still haven’t i go back and forth i haven’t actually decided what i was going to do i know i said i was going to make that into a lit one um since it’s replacing my shiny yeah my night i love the shiny yeah i know what happened to the shiny nothing it’s it’s fine getting to the point where it’s irreplaceable at this point i’m fairly certain i’m okay saying that because i have not found another one for sale no because i know tommy after i got mine he wanted one he wanted one yeah yeah yeah can’t be found anywhere correct so funny story i think we’ve told this on here but i know crystal
[1:17:42] Speaker 3: doesn’t listen so and that’s okay and that’s perfectly fine after we picked that up in toledo we were talking about on the podcast and Terry Dunn uh who actually runs the rc well runs he’s on the rc roundtable podcast reached out to us and said hey i think that actually comes off of the old electro streak is kind of what they used for that airplane as uh what’s what i’m looking for similar it’s inspiration oh kind of thing to where it you know it’s kind of more the same it’s shaped about
[1:18:15] Speaker 3: the same not necessarily the same airplane but you know it has a lot of similarities between them and so that’s kind of what started this whole tommy wanted to build something like the shiny yeah so we found the planes the electro streak plans sorry the plans for the plane um and he decided he was going to build one over the winter to which he’s like you should build one
[1:18:35] Speaker 1: with me and i had already thought at that point because we did a group you know yeah sort of a
[1:18:42] Speaker 3: group the two of us built the the dualist um and that’s fun in the back of my mind i was already kind of thinking about not flying the shiny anymore because like i said it’s so hard to find nearly impossible and it’s going to become a museum piece well like the covering out is already starting to come off like it’s the not just coming off but the the printing on it is starting to wear out yeah and i just i don’t want to chance having something happen to it or just have it get messed up by
[1:19:10] Speaker 1: using it too long it’s yeah it’s one of those where you’re not really comfortable with crashing
[1:19:14] Speaker 3: it right i don’t want to lose it yeah and not just crashing but like i said just actually landing it’s a belly lander if you if you lose all the covering on the bottom of it because it’s just getting so well it’s not a crash but it’s still messed up yeah so that’s why i was like that’s a good idea i will build that with you then somehow i don’t know how we got the whole group build idea that was all you was it it was your idea yeah i don’t remember that but anyway so we decided let’s put it out to the listeners see if anybody wants to build it which i think great idea it was terry’s
[1:19:45] Speaker 3: idea for this airplane and i’m i i wasn’t going to say anything but he said it on their podcast which is exciting he’s actually building one too uh over the winter i didn’t know if i told you that or not but don’t think you told me that yeah so he will be building an electro streak or a streak along with us how many people total do you know are building that i know of i think we’re close to about 25. wow which is a lot more that’s awesome yeah this is this is i don’t want to say difficult but it’s a build that’s not a true very simple thing to do yeah and we’ve had more people reach out
[1:20:20] Speaker 3: too that aren’t getting the shortcuts that you know i’m doing it a little bit differently i’m i know tony from up in uh chicagoland is going to be doing his out of foam yeah but it’s going to be the same kind of yeah it’s just going to be a cool little thing they’re inspirational to see what everybody call tommy is because he’s shiny he’s the inspiration um but it’s going to be interesting to see all the different people how they build it because i the three of us aren’t doing them
[1:20:47] Speaker 2: not the same no dave is going nuts with his yeah yeah yeah it’s bad it’s real bad what do you mean i want to hear about it what are you doing concern okay the motor that’s in your arf yeah could be swapped i could use my electric motor in your arf these are small planes and these are tiny okay
[1:21:04] Speaker 6: that’s what i okay yeah so his is gonna be a rock grossly overpowered i’m conservative doesn’t quite
[1:21:11] Speaker 1: cover it yeah yeah mega overpowered stupidly overpowered conservatively speaking at wide open throttle if you can if you can keep it together put extra glue and not fold the wings 140 easy
[1:21:26] Speaker 2: i’m or more i’m guessing 150
[1:21:30] Speaker 1: mine i’m guessing go pro on it 75 ish or so but i want my if it stays together yeah but i want mine to
[1:21:37] Speaker 3: be you know fun to fly not you’re in the middle yeah and then you’re going i’m hoping for 28 mile
[1:21:43] Speaker 6: an hour so are you going to put lights in it like the shiny that’s what i i haven’t decided that was
[1:21:47] Speaker 3: my original plan was yes i am are you still absolutely well you put lights on your vimana
[1:21:52] Speaker 1: so you’re familiar with how to do it yeah it’s not that much weight it really isn’t well i’m not going to go crazy with the lights i mean just maybe you know a string down each wing panel and maybe something in the tail yeah but just enough to be able to fly i’m i’m really planning on it
[1:22:09] Speaker 3: at this point but i haven’t talked myself completely into it yet you bought a roll of the of the lights right oh yeah it’s like eight bucks for a 16 foot roll of the the thin yeah 3 16 inch wide that’s what led so are you putting lights in yours dave no no you won’t be able to see it because his is going to be completely cheated it’ll just be a streak people will think it’s a ufo it’ll be a streak i got
[1:22:31] Speaker 2: you oh yeah you’re cute plus i need to keep as much weight out of it as i can that’s getting
[1:22:39] Speaker 3: heavy okay cool yeah but it will be fun like i said i’m excited to have that start and we’ll
[1:22:45] Speaker 6: to keep people involved and and you know talking and you know building now what’s the time frame
[1:22:52] Speaker 3: that you’re looking at for to build it i was ready for it’s a winter so yeah it’s a winter build so we should be done by spring which is march something 20th yeah hopefully it won’t be super windy
[1:23:05] Speaker 2: this year and it does here does build fast so yeah dave’s almost done with his
[1:23:11] Speaker 3: how many are you building you just building that one are you going to do all multiples just the one what are you going to do from i don’t know january to march uh let’s see here oh dave’s gonna be tech
[1:23:21] Speaker 2: support we’ll just get out his number he can be tech support how’s that yeah and i have no problem with that that’s the reason i’m kind of trying to push this fast for me to to get through it to
[1:23:30] Speaker 6: find all the little bugaboos yeah are you on discord dave yes he’s on oh i like that i wanted to be on discord and they told me i was not allowed who do you did i did i said i want to join your discord
[1:23:43] Speaker 1: and you were like no you don’t need to be on that i did not say that i don’t remember saying that yeah you could be on the discord i don’t care just don’t talk that’s the thing nobody wants to hear
[1:23:55] Speaker 3: me talk this is why we don’t get shirts by the way i know people don’t take it right told you
[1:23:59] Speaker 6: you couldn’t be on i thought someone said when i said i want to join your discord and besides that
[1:24:04] Speaker 1: why does it matter what i say you’re a grown woman you can be on not that i listen to you
[1:24:11] Speaker 6: when you tell me to do exactly so why should this be any different i don’t have anything of value to
[1:24:17] Speaker 1: add you could talk about your build that you’re not really no we have we have new guys on the new people i should say on the discord yeah absolutely you could you could definitely have stuff to provide you’re building an r for the first time that’s a different not listening
[1:24:32] Speaker 6: she’s looking at picture david he’s showing me his oh how far he made it yeah yeah he’ll be covering
[1:24:40] Speaker 2: next he’ll be covering next week or i was gonna say i don’t know i’ve got a house to clean up after you guys had to come help me oh yeah frozen pipes that was i wouldn’t bring that up okay
[1:24:50] Speaker 1: that’s no we can’t he brought it up i did so i guess that’s okay well just real quick yeah dave had a burst pipe in his attic and we fixed it this morning it’s really really appreciate you guys crawling around up there blowing in insulation and by the way those plumbing fittings are the cat’s meow meow i’ve never seen those before i mean i know how i don’t know but i’ve never seen the the repair sleeves like that before that’s really really slick and easy yeah glad it worked out
[1:25:16] Speaker 2: yeah because i can’t get up there and i really appreciate it guys yeah no worries well ron
[1:25:20] Speaker 3: could barely get up there too so it wasn’t the getting up that was as bad as trying to figure out how to finagle out yeah getting getting out of the yeah yeah i’m not a big fan of addicts anyway
[1:25:31] Speaker 2: but i could get up there but i couldn’t maneuver around on the rafters yeah well that’s the hard thing
[1:25:36] Speaker 3: too i’m like i don’t want to end up in his bathroom so really watch where i’m stepping so
[1:25:41] Speaker 1: by the way it’s been really really cold here in the midwest for the past week or so and pipes burst when they’re freezing a lot of our listeners that live south don’t have to worry about stuff like that
[1:25:51] Speaker 3: yeah we were well a lot of our listeners that live north are like only negative yeah that’s true
[1:25:56] Speaker 2: wind chill negative 30. i think we can blame this on a raccoon probably because i didn’t have a raccoon up there and uh they dug all the insulation away from that pipe yep so yeah anyway that was that was
[1:26:10] Speaker 3: fun it wasn’t it was okay it only took a couple hours oh it was less than that yeah i mean like literally most of the time i’m waiting for daniel to get back i was just gonna say it took them longer to go to the store and get what we needed than for us to climb up and and take care of it so yeah
[1:26:24] Speaker 1: it’s okay yeah i’ll work that well what other goals for 2023 we got stuff that we were planning on
[1:26:29] Speaker 2: doing well i don’t yes but i don’t know somebody threw a wrench in everything oh well yeah so i’m
[1:26:36] Speaker 1: gonna have to be away for a while probably uh this year for work i wasn’t gonna bring that up and for a while it’s just you know some months um some months but no we still we still have uh plans for for doing stuff are you okay so obviously not leaving till summer if he’s going yeah it’ll be summer and i’ll be gone till fall basically yeah yeah i mean pretty much so i guess yeah dave you
[1:27:03] Speaker 3: got to start talking more because that’s my new role we’re gonna have to give him his own email address and all that yeah that’s okay um you can just use mine just change it we can add i mean it’s not one or the other you’re not getting out of it this easy let’s just maybe you could call in one time yeah we’ll talk about that yeah we’ll get to it a roaming reporter yeah roving roving roving yeah well roaming too you can just walk around he probably would yeah
[1:27:35] Speaker 3: uh you know with 23 though we talked about a lot of things i’m i don’t know how many of these we’re going to hit yeah but i would like to hit most if not all of them yeah um it’s going to be a lot of vacation time yes but that’s okay that’s why i’m working another week this year right yeah yes i end up getting an extra week of vacation this year so that’s going to get well i don’t want to say blown that’s going to get used nicely yeah rc stuff yes um obviously we’re going to do toledo again absolutely going to do toledo we’re trying to figure and i i’m hoping we can make it to
[1:28:07] Speaker 3: parry i would like to do parry that would be awesome okay so we’re going to actually mark that in the books as we’re going yeah when is parry uh april no it’s early it’s like the first weekend in march or something oh is it okay i don’t have my phone on me because it makes noises on the
[1:28:22] Speaker 1: yeah it does boarding stuff and yeah none of us have our phones because you told us dave dig
[1:28:27] Speaker 3: because he handed in your phone what’s that on the table he can’t use it it’s in my pocket but anyway nice honey in your pocket not making is it on maybe no it’s with this new board there’s a lot of feedback that comes through from phones we noticed and like a lot of like can you hear anything anyway yeah i’ve been hearing it the whole time i guess it’s you whatever
[1:28:51] Speaker 3: no so parry uh toledo what else uh we were thinking about joe noll yeah i would love that’s going to be a big one that’s like i don’t mind the drive i just don’t know where to stay i’m not a camper i’m a glam i’m yeah do you have to camp no you don’t have to but if it’s going to be a week i’m not if you’re going to be there a week that’s oh that’s expensive for a hotel yeah we’ll have it
[1:29:19] Speaker 3: y’all can stay in the same room yeah well yeah that’s what we did in toledo yeah got weird because
[1:29:25] Speaker 1: he sleeps naked but that’s okay and ron takes really really long showers and uses all the hot water you don’t have to worry about it when you’re in a hotel yes i like long showers
[1:29:34] Speaker 6: the way he sleeps is not a problem for me
[1:29:38] Speaker 1: wait you did so joe no
[1:29:42] Speaker 3: i said that as a joke but i’m sitting there like wait laurie is that no he does not okay
[1:29:48] Speaker 6: every night um air venture he likes the spoon which i think is weird he really does
[1:29:53] Speaker 1: and ron wants to fight me over being the big spoon
[1:29:56] Speaker 3: i don’t know why he got us a bed with a twin
[1:30:03] Speaker 6: it was cheaper you said you were on a budget
[1:30:08] Speaker 1: oh all right so air venture uh i’m probably not going to be able to do that one yeah you guys i’m
[1:30:17] Speaker 3: talking to crystal we’ll see if we can make it up for that or not if not we’ll do it another year but i think that should be a lot of fun yeah i would like to hit that because i’ve never been but like
[1:30:26] Speaker 1: me too but um it’s probably not in the cards for me for 23 but you should definitely go if you can
[1:30:32] Speaker 3: because from what i understand it’s yeah awesome amazing i was talking to my brother and all he’s been to it before and he said he really enjoyed it and wants to go back to so yeah i like sitting
[1:30:41] Speaker 2: here and watching the increase of air traffic just flying over to the area oh i know right yeah all
[1:30:46] Speaker 3: the planes that are coming in you can just watch them like go in on that flight radar and stuff you can watch all the planes coming into land it’s interesting yeah and then uh rc fest again that was
[1:30:56] Speaker 1: fun absolutely probably i don’t think you’ll be here i don’t think i’ll be back in time for that um that was real early fall yeah i’m going without you but uh yeah absolutely um and then some of the other ones now um the jet meet and arrow toe i probably won’t make those either arrow toe i want
[1:31:16] Speaker 3: to go to that i didn’t go last year but i would like to see yeah that in person as opposed to trying it ourselves without ever doing it yeah i get it because i think the big Telemaster would be a
[1:31:26] Speaker 1: good arrow toe airplane plenty of room to work on i think even the small even though it’s not really small the smaller Telemaster would be a good one too yeah which one will be better the big one
[1:31:38] Speaker 3: then that’s the one we’ll do yeah there’s more room in there there’s a lot of wasted space on that thing yeah so yeah well hopefully we’ll hit the street or fly in again i don’t know if you’ll be yeah around for that we’ll see how that goes um and then i want to look like there’s a lot of events locally like there’s a lot more fields around here yeah than i’m aware of because i’ve never really looked into it i’d like to go see like when they have their open houses and that kind of stuff and actually make a trip over to the closer type feel like within an hour or two yeah from us and just there’s uh several in the st louis area oh there’s several even like decatur and all the
[1:32:12] Speaker 6: places around here too that i’ve never actually been to we were in the st louis area around halloween and we went by the field we used to fly at in st louis for well we went by two fields actually yeah uh we
[1:32:25] Speaker 1: drove by booter park which is awesome facility i did a lot of that’s where i crashed my first dualist by the way um and then we went to the st louis rc club um in st louis proper i guess um we ran right by it as part of that race oh i did not pay attention yeah it was at the turnaround i was also not feeling
[1:32:46] Speaker 6: great that day oh that’s right yeah you probably didn’t go out there no i i only did the 10k you
[1:32:52] Speaker 1: did the half so you probably went out there and i didn’t yeah so i agree i would like to see some of
[1:32:57] Speaker 3: the other fields too yeah and also for the podcast one of the things i would like to do that we have not done for a long time is maybe redo some of our first episodes and get to more specific type episodes okay where we actually cover updates well yeah updates and go back to like what has changed in the last two years for transmitters when we talked about that for batteries you know beginner rc airplanes yeah like what piper got is completely awesome light years ahead yeah of what was available
[1:33:32] Speaker 3: really two years ago two three years ago yeah so i think that’d be no i think that that’d be a good
[1:33:37] Speaker 1: idea i wouldn’t mind doing a few more videos too over the yeah that was next season we just there are a lot of time to do a lot of work but they do you know seem to get a lot of traffic something
[1:33:48] Speaker 6: i have to say when i was doing my hinges i did watch the hinge video oh did you i sure did well they’re handy i mean really that yeah you don’t know what you’re doing there’s a few i didn’t have to ask him because he was already there he already told me yeah he was already on the video so it all worked out
[1:34:05] Speaker 1: so no i found it incredibly i would like to do a i mean i don’t know if there’s something we should do for 23 or not but i would like to do a like a an rf build video you know what i mean yeah like from start to finish i mean it would be a lengthy one i think but and then if you do it in parts maybe
[1:34:21] Speaker 3: do it in parts yeah you know just so we could and that’s a good excuse by the way to get another airplane because it’s gonna have to be a newer type rf you don’t want to do something from 20 years ago right we’ll see so but anyway yeah i’d like to do some like to do the videos again those are fun even like one of the newer bind and fly type because you still have to assemble those that’s
[1:34:42] Speaker 1: true yeah just so people can understand what it goes into what does bind and fly mean yeah yeah
[1:34:48] Speaker 6: that’s a good idea is anyone writing this down nope awesome oh it’s recorded so you can always go back and listen i’ll do that because i’ll forget to go back and listen i’ll listen to it because maybe i’ll miss his voice and i’ll listen you already lived it i know i am gonna miss him writing
[1:35:05] Speaker 1: stuff down i’m not talking talk that’s how we’ve been married almost 30 years what that he’s not
[1:35:13] Speaker 6: talking no i’m not talking talk amongst yourself that i like him so much ah so what else anything else you guys want to talk about i think i’m kind of i just want to say if you need a guest speaker
[1:35:27] Speaker 3: while he’s gone i will be available to talk about what talk about the arf that she hasn’t completed now she’ll have it completed it will be done so let’s see we’ll have you back on in august for well laurie how’s the arf oh tom left my goal is to have it done while he was gone but my goal is to have
[1:35:47] Speaker 6: it done before he left and that didn’t work out so now i’m kind of stuck at least you’re setting the expectations right i’m trying no i think you’ll have it finished thank you crystal for your well
[1:35:58] Speaker 5: she did said you know i did yeah yeah yeah so we’ll all be there so we’re expecting that’s sunday
[1:36:07] Speaker 6: that’s this sunday yeah that’s coming well that’s okay you can do it you’re working from home he says he says i only have two hours or less realistically realistically hours of work and i can do that yeah i can do that i can do it so what what else anything crystal what are you building i honestly
[1:36:27] Speaker 5: would not mind building something oh i know i’m getting to the point but yeah but nothing it’s
[1:36:33] Speaker 6: difficult is what i did had her put the aero scout together i can take it apart in the five
[1:36:38] Speaker 5: like i want something more challenging than that but i don’t want anything that you know i have to worry about oh it’s not gonna i don’t know i think you want a 20 year old or anything like that or you want a 20 year old arf yeah what are you talking about instructions to you know be clear for me that’s part of the charm yeah so thank you then i’ll be building three wings like ron did and then
[1:37:04] Speaker 3: throwing it against the wall i didn’t throw them against the wall i burnt them yeah i know i’m saying what i would do oh i gotcha oh man i’ll have to see what’s uh up at brian’s next time we go up yeah yeah but you said you weren’t gonna buy anything not for myself i’ll have a list spreadsheet this will be a crystal spreadsheet so now see that’s the thing i can have a negative number next year as long as i buy them for crystal there you go so like it all goes back to
[1:37:37] Speaker 5: you know i kind of you know want to compare it to puzzles you know i can do the 100 piece puzzles you know those are fun but when it gets to like 500 piece thousand pieces i’m telling you right now
[1:37:50] Speaker 6: no thanks the expectation like it’s going to be a hundred times harder than you think it’s going to be no i don’t think so it was for me for the art time okay well thank you very much a little bit 10 times harder than you think i thought honestly i would get it done and lickety split because i had some i didn’t work on it wait a minute yes i did yes i did i did work on it i thought that it would be easier because i had more background knowledge but that still wasn’t enough as far as the tools
[1:38:24] Speaker 6: go yeah and the tips and tricks and all that stuff that were not listed in the instructions yeah so yeah
[1:38:30] Speaker 2: that makes it that makes it harder i think yeah you’re dealing with glow too which adds to it yeah i think electric would be much easier just to bolt in and plug together absolutely yes i agree
[1:38:40] Speaker 1: there’s no gas tank there’s nothing you don’t have to mount an engine you don’t have to drill and tap
[1:38:45] Speaker 6: holes right i had to measure a lot which i am not good at i’m not good at measuring it’s mark past the big mark yeah and he’s really good at it’s you know five and and three eighths or five and and and a quarter or five and an eighth and i’m just like okay what tick mark is it like which one am i
[1:39:04] Speaker 3: which one am i doing so all i can say is when we were in dave’s attic
[1:39:11] Speaker 3: tommy is looking at the pipe and because i i didn’t get up there at first tommy was the only one because it was you know yeah fatty don’t like to go over a bunch of puzzle stuff to get over there so i wasn’t going up there yet so he was just trying to figure what size and what we needed yeah what size tubing and i asked him what size pipe and he’s like oh it looks like an inch i was like inch that seems big for you know for a copper pipe and stuff i was like whatever this is just feeding an outdoor faucet yeah oh that’s all it was yeah that’s all it fed we should just cap that that’s what i said when we were there anyway so we got a tape measure and it turns out it’s a
[1:39:46] Speaker 3: half inch pipe so eyeing it and i’m looking at like we get the pipe and it’s literally the size
[1:39:52] Speaker 6: of my finger i’m gonna defend him i wasn’t even there but he was in an attic probably couldn’t see very well he could see great no and he got electrocuted and he got he got electrocuted twice
[1:40:04] Speaker 3: twice so i’m gonna defend him brain’s not working right now that’s right the worst part is tommy’s like here touch that see if you get shocked he’s like he’s like grabbing it with his
[1:40:17] Speaker 1: whole hand and then i’m the one that gets shot because i touched i was like no i’m fine i hear him go like what i just got shocked well here’s the thing like everything is wet yeah because like you know yeah and there’s live electricity there’s a there’s an attic or a i’m sorry a ceiling fan for a bathroom up there so there’s all the electricity and electrons flowing all over the place and it’s you know i yeah my i had a wet spot like from on on my leg and i touched something i shouldn’t have
[1:40:53] Speaker 3: and zap i know i felt so bad because i thought you were messing around at first no i’m fine and then you like jump and i’m like okay he’s being so stupid and the weird like on my calf the leg was back here and i’m like i don’t yeah it’s not like we were comfortable but it was funny the first time
[1:41:14] Speaker 1: i got shocked was before you got there or before you came up i think and i was feeling on the pipe to see if i could you know before they turn the water back on to see if i could find the the hole the gash it turned out to be yeah turned out to be yeah and i’m feeling along and all of a sudden zap
[1:41:31] Speaker 3: i’m like ah hey dave can you turn the power off and the power was off by the way he turned off like half of the house but it was the wrong house apparently the wrong because you got shocked
[1:41:43] Speaker 2: after it was the wire that got me was still coming i’m not sure how that got you because i turned off all the breakers for the new edition of the house which is where the break was yeah there should not have been any power going to the new edition yeah and that was
[1:41:57] Speaker 6: that was so funny sorry so in his defense he had a lot of things working against him but
[1:42:03] Speaker 1: i will say no i i can i’m glad you’re still here tom i am not good at estimating size
[1:42:10] Speaker 6: that’s why i asked for a tape measure he’s really good at that i mean but he i am not good at oh that looks like i don’t know inch and a half and he’s like no it’s not it’s either i don’t know inch and oh yeah so oh reading the tape yeah yeah i’m i just guesstimate he goes you can’t do that
[1:42:28] Speaker 3: like you have to be you have to be exact i’m not good at that calipers as much as i can that’s so much
[1:42:35] Speaker 6: more exact i’m just not i’m not good at mapping and i’m not good at measuring yeah i get it i have a lot of other really good talents and those two of the things i’m not good at okay so the tools you
[1:42:47] Speaker 5: yeah yeah yeah that you wish you would have known yes is there a basic kit no that you can
[1:42:55] Speaker 6: no because you don’t know what you’re going to need every airplane is different correct and that
[1:43:00] Speaker 5: makes it hard for people wanting to get into the hobby exactly at the beginning of every manual
[1:43:05] Speaker 1: of every rf manual it will tell you exactly what tool you need now it does right it even it did back
[1:43:11] Speaker 6: then too however it did not tell me i would need to dremel anything
[1:43:15] Speaker 3: you might not have needed the dremel but that’s an easier tool than what like a file
[1:43:19] Speaker 1: that particular job easier like to notch a hole for your needle valve right use the dremel right you could have used an X-Acto knife which is what it said to do well and it also didn’t yeah i mean
[1:43:32] Speaker 6: there were a lot of little things that i needed to i just i don’t know it was a lot handier to have
[1:43:39] Speaker 3: him nearby and say oh this will be easier there are better tools for certain jobs even though you can do it with a different tool yes exactly yeah so yeah it probably would have helped if i read the directions more than i did what was your favorite tool do you have one can you think of one don’t say it yet but can you think of one no right off the top of my head never mind probably yes or no yes
[1:44:04] Speaker 6: okay i can hold on okay it’s time what is it laurie it’s the dremel oh you’ve already done that i know i’m sorry you’ve already done it but oh wait here’s the other thing what was the name of the thingy that um trimmed the the tie rods like clipped them like just real easy oh and it the z-bend thing that’s what it was z-bend pliers yes it did not say i needed z-bend pliers those are just fun to play with yeah
[1:44:35] Speaker 3: it didn’t say i needed z-bend pliers we didn’t need to use z-bends to hook it up didn’t have to there are better ways easy connectors yeah they’re well i’m not surprised for beginners are and i’m not
[1:44:48] Speaker 1: a big fan yeah so i i know or use but you absolutely did not need those to use those that’s because that
[1:44:54] Speaker 3: was a choice i made once again there’s better ways of doing certain things right well i like the
[1:45:00] Speaker 6: z-benders because it was just really easy yep oh i agree and they’re fun to play with and they’re fun to play with there you go that’s my tool of the week yeah i’ll just sit there a piece of wire
[1:45:07] Speaker 2: and just make z-bend after z-bend after z-bend it looks like it’s gone through a crinkle press
[1:45:13] Speaker 3: it’s a good fidget tool there’s anyway all right what else anything we good we’re done we’re we’ve
[1:45:20] Speaker 1: rambled well we haven’t rambled too much no just partial wrapping up 2022 yeah i’ve got the the 2023 um goals and stuff uh yeah so i’m i’m good you oh you got it written down you mean he wrote it down what do you got written down ron says i’m getting rid of planes next year with the intent to make my
[1:45:39] Speaker 3: list smaller more refined oh he’s gonna get fancy not just smaller i mean like my goal is not to just get rid of airplanes get rid of them it’s to own my list to be more polish it there you go polish my list okay so net negative pop probably most likely yes the goal of uh as of right now which could change in 20 minutes it could so anyway want to put money down on that no i’ll put a 10 only if i can win i’ll go buy an airplane and then
[1:46:15] Speaker 1: yeah so goals for the podcast uh uh go to local fields clubs uh local events for fly-ins and things like that uh revisit some of the older episodes uh with the purpose or do some episodes with a specific purpose and then uh topic i gotta step up my game and oh dave’s goal is to talk more dave has to talk dave yeah that’s to talk got that okay and then uh maybe do like more videos there you go that was
[1:46:44] Speaker 3: last year’s goal too and i think we did one this year yeah i don’t know who that was um i don’t know so yeah where’s the dog i’m good she’s sleeping good yeah and then 2024
[1:47:00] Speaker 1: all right that’s you’re the jet that’s all you it’ll be more of the same for me
[1:47:05] Speaker 3: oh me too get rid of more airplanes to be able to so it’ll be more of the same of 2023 for you have you know this is way off topic have you noticed with the airplanes that you have switched out any change in types or size because i’ve noticed like the some of the few that i brought in
[1:47:27] Speaker 2: have become bigger yeah no mine have generally just kind of stayed the same i’m all over the place
