[00:00:06] Hello everyone and welcome to the rc plane lab podcast i'm ron i'm tom and i'm dave and we just wore shirts that said that for the first time ever all at the same time in public in public

[00:00:21] Is that weird i don't think it was my shirt like that i don't think it was weird but it was fun though it was fun yeah we're talking about toledo of course toledo was interesting and we'll get to

[00:00:32] That first first let's talk about okay so on discord we were told that we don't do a good job of telling people that we have shirts for sale that we have other things that people might like to purchase to help support us go to the website rcplane lab.com and click on the shop link

[00:00:57] And you can get shirts and all that kind of fun stuff shirts hats there's all kinds of cool stuff i don't remember what all i looked the other day oh did you yep did you buy anything no however i'm gonna segue into toledo by saying i got lots of compliments on saturday for my shirt that laurie had made for me that says flying is my favorite f word so laurie is gonna upload that design to excuse me to our cool swag page so people can buy that very shirt so i do like that because i did

[00:01:31] Get a lot of compliments on it and thank you laurie for making that for me maybe i want one too now

[00:01:35] There it's a fun shirt and i think if i have her make me another one i'll have same thing but then i'll put the the big blue and white with the yak logo on the back so then it'll be like really really rc plane with the whole yeah that's gonna be hard that'd be cool though it will be there's a lot of colors there is but i think she's up for the challenge poor laurie you have to do it laurie

[00:01:59] Figure it out also patreon yes anybody that wants to support us we don't do a good job of talking about that we do have a patreon page whatever you call it a patreon account yeah i'd

[00:02:10] Like to be a patron please do we appreciate that's our way of asking for money which we don't like to

[00:02:16] Do all the support we get well stuff gets expensive it does so it's nice to not have to pay for all that

[00:02:22] Stuff yeah right yes i don't disagree at all okay now that's out of the way oh very before we move on sorry patreon i'm gonna hit this just one time anything you guys donate to patreon it goes towards the podcast not towards our hanger correct i just want to make that clear yeah we don't buy we don't

[00:02:42] Buy toys with it we buy podcast production stuff which are kind of toys i guess if you i suppose but

[00:02:47] Not anything we would use for anything else right yeah no airplanes or radios or engines or any of that fun stuff it's all this electronic gadgetry that ron really is in control of that tom has no

[00:02:59] Clue what it means or what it is or what i'm pretty sure dave doesn't what does that button do yeah

[00:03:04] Don't push it don't don't touch that one he'll yell at you yeah i'm already missing parts

[00:03:10] Hey so's ron so excited okay let's get back are we good on that yeah i think so exciting news very exciting dave has his very own email address now i finally got unlazy and did that i feel so included i know right so email dave all your complaints and all that kind of stuff if you don't like us

[00:03:31] Say hi to dave yeah yeah if you have a question that a dave question you can now email dave directly

[00:03:38] Which is nice i've just got to say before we get too far in toledo is awesome everybody was named dave there were a lot of dave did you notice that yes yes i sold several planes and the guys were like hey can you hold on to this and i'll come back pick it up in a little bit i'm like sure what's your name dave dave i think four of the five people that asked to come back later to

[00:04:00] Pick up airplanes were daves yeah yeah and we met a few daves associated with the actual production of

[00:04:07] The show as well so if you ever go there and you're not sure what to call somebody just yell dave it's safe to assume dave is their name yes yep oh and my email address is oh dave dave at rcplanelab.com did i not say that yeah i thought so i thought so too all right you can say what is it dave tell us

[00:04:27] So it's dave at rcplanelab.com how do you spell that dave i'll get back to you so as i find out

[00:04:36] And that is that d-a-v-e-a-t or is that the at sign symbol thing which i always thought that should be around does that not make more sense to be around instead of at

[00:04:50] For that yes i i thought so too because it's and then around around yeah around no you're not the only one i'm not the only one that spends time and i still call the things i think they call them hashtags but i actually i still call it a pound sign number sign or number sign yeah i'm yeah

[00:05:09] Isn't that what the isn't that what the millennials do they do that i've never seen that no and i can't do that anyway because i don't have fingers to do it with oh so yes toledo was last weekend toledo was which means a blast as usual before we get to toledo okay let's talk about what's coming up next oh my gosh i'm so no i'm sorry that's gonna be so like i said before unfortunately dave isn't going

[00:05:39] So it's just tommy and i you and i are either going to be really good friends by the end of that week or we are going to be enemies i don't think there's much in between oh yeah i think we'll

[00:05:51] Be fine it's a long week it's a long week but there's so much space there like if you get sick of me or if i especially if i get sick of you there's lots of stuff to do there that we don't have to be together at what i'm saying that's true and the camper we're renting there's it's two like a two bedroom and the bedrooms are like on opposite ends of the so it'll be

[00:06:12] Fine so this is turning out the next podcast after that i'm doing all by myself

[00:06:19] Well yeah that's why you have your own email now yeah we're gonna switch back and forth on but no

[00:06:25] Yeah we're like i'm really really excited like i think we're gonna have i think it's gonna be one of those deals where we'll remember it for it'll be one of those things that i won't forget and i forget a lot of stuff you're gonna remember it all right yeah for good or for bad i don't know which

[00:06:39] Yet yeah so i don't know what to expect though because we've never been i've heard stories but once again we shall see it's a long drive that part's gonna not be fun because we're doing

[00:06:51] Each way in one day and that's what 12 13 16 well the google maps says 12 ish hours but by the time you factor in stops for gas and to pee and to eat or for me to eat anyway because ron doesn't eat i don't on the road ron doesn't eat like at all no for 12 hours i might have to which is weird but six and a half i'm okay like i can't go more than about four hours without eating but

[00:07:17] Oh i can go i mean like honestly if my mind is on something else i can go yeah so long time that

[00:07:22] That'll be probably closer to a 14 14 and a half hour day of travel each way so but we'll take turns and it'll be fine what what time will you i'm optimistic like four in the morning i think was well actually probably a little earlier because i don't want to get there like in the dark trying to set up the camper and stuff so yeah probably more like two in the morning i'm thinking are you

[00:07:44] Serious yeah so i'll take the first leg of sleeping okay because that'll be that's fine i actually

[00:07:52] I actually like i prefer driving in the dark so do you really oh i much prefer traveling at night yeah me too less traffic less buttholes on the highway but pulling the trailer pulling all that kind of stuff well you saw how easy it pulled the trailer this weekend to see the golf cart and all

[00:08:09] That kind of stuff on there you'll be able to see it through the back window it's not an enclosed trailer at least no so yeah we'll be fine but anyway for those who have been to joe and all since this is our first time going if you think there's something we need to know email us contact us however and just let us know because like i said i i don't know exactly what all we need to bring like i've got a list of what i think is normal stuff but there might be something that we don't know right so email either ron or tom at rcplanelab.com even though dave has a new email address because he

[00:08:40] Doesn't get to go so i'll be staying home watching the store and we not really i was gonna say we appreciate it but i'm i'm wishing he was coming with us i wish he was coming with i just can't

[00:08:52] Swing it there's no time at work well we're not trying to like no i understand coerce you into doing it but we will miss you maybe next year i hope that would be awesome if the three or four of us even if daniel decides he wants to go to that'd be we should have had him out for

[00:09:08] This one like i thought about that like an hour before you guys got here since he came with us to to to to to to to to to to to to boy it's late that would have been nice because he bought yeah a ridiculous airplane that we can get to he bought a little bit but anyway so i think that's

[00:09:27] All i wanted to say on joe and all anybody else no i'm not really excited and i'm i'm in agreement with you if somebody has suggestions like stuff that they have forgotten over the years and want to make sure we don't forget yeah please let us know because we're noobs when it comes to joe and all

[00:09:42] Yeah or things that we don't know we know that or that we don't know we need that we need to know we need wow did you follow that unfortunately yeah see it made sense anyway so let's talk about toledo toledo was a lot of fun that was a lot of fun we actually different experience this year this was better yeah like i liked it i will i think for all times in the future buy a table

[00:10:09] Oh for sure whether we're selling or not yeah for sure just need a home base yeah

[00:10:13] Yeah i agree yep i mean it's so much simpler to have an actual place just to kind of not have to walk out to your car every time you buy something nice to park yourself think about things have a seat like we both bought talk to people brought chairs thinking we might need chairs and stuff they had chairs all over the place nice chairs very comfortable chairs so yeah i was i was pleasantly impressed pleasantly pleasantly surprised so let's talk about a little bit some of the things they had set up for vendors that we had to experience this year that we didn't last

[00:10:48] Year because we weren't vendors last year right so nobody's going to talk it's just me let's oh no

[00:10:53] Yeah let's talk about well no the what the setup was awesome like so setup was thursday i get that

[00:11:00] It's weird because it's a friday saturday event not a and it feels like saturday sunday

[00:11:04] But they they opened up thursday early just for people who had purchased tables to get set up and stuff which was fantastic but even better than that was they actually opened up the the loading docks you could drive right into the facility which it turned out later was where they did the flying they were flying so that was really nice to be able to pull in like if it had been raining or something that would have been not been fun right to unload in the rain so and it was that they let us pull inside to unload was awesome and it was fairly close really to where we were

[00:11:35] Setting up to i mean there was a little bit of a trek but not nearly as bad as it could have been

[00:11:39] Yeah but they they had carts there and everything and people were willing to help if you wanted if you needed help pushing stuff around they had folks there to yeah it was it was

[00:11:48] Really i thought it was really really well set up good size carts too they were like what three foot

[00:11:53] By six foot or something yeah you needed all the space on those carts with all the stuff you brought and they rolled nice yeah very nice wheels and then also kudos to the staff they so if you had brought a trailer which we did because of all your stuff and your stuff some my there was

[00:12:14] Nothing of mine in the trailer no but we had all of my stuff wouldn't have fit with your stuff so no

[00:12:20] For sure but anyway they provided a a parking lot that was attended where you could drop off your trailer and not have to drag it around with you for those couple of days which was really nice

[00:12:31] Also and it didn't cost any extra free of charge for that yeah i was like said i was for setting up as a vendor the first time this year i was pleasantly surprised by how well they had things figured out and just how easy everything ended up being very easy yeah kudos kudos to the staff or staff to the

[00:12:48] Few guys that put it on yeah the club and the guys hank was really great to deal with yeah yeah so i it was just a great all-around experience a much different experience than our experience last

[00:13:00] Year it was nice not to have to wait for the doors to open to go in yes because there was a good line last year yeah and like i said it was it was to me having a spot like dave said as kind of a home base made things just so much more relaxed and so much more easygoing and less stressful yeah you go wander for 20 minutes you come have a seat yeah and if you find something you just bring it back to

[00:13:23] The table set it down and go back out and find more stuff there was no no delay and possibly missing out on another deal because you had to take out you take stuff out to the car well and this

[00:13:34] This for me was not a buying year no like i think we were all kind of in a weird headspace this year because it wasn't collecting things like it was last year we got rid of a lot of stuff between the four of us yeah we all sold stuff yep and it was just more going out than coming in yeah like we bought two tables and it was nice because when we walked in there was an extra table thrown upside down on top of one of them yeah and the guy there was like i thought you might need an

[00:14:05] Extra table set it up wherever so we put it behind us that would be hank thank you it was hank and then i put or i brought another table yeah just in case i brought a six foot table yeah we set that up so we had four tables full they were full when we started full of stuff with stuff underneath the

[00:14:22] Table too yeah oh yeah all the way up so luckily a lot of the stuff we had brought was still in boxes yeah that we could put on the floor but yeah that made everything four tables and and between the

[00:14:32] Four of us they were full like i didn't even count did we ever figure like between all of us how much we brought like how many airplanes i don't think we actually did that would have been cool i brought nine oh well i i brought 21 so there's 30 right there five okay 35 what daniel two so 37 airplanes

[00:14:54] To get rid of 37 and other stuff yeah yeah there was some other stuff but the table gigogs the table yeah the doodads that they brought to yeah to kind of fill out the table which sold quite a bit of

[00:15:07] That i think for what it was it's my edf stuff's the only thing sold everything else just oh did you

[00:15:13] Did you take the little nitro motor back home yeah no one bought that no one bought that oh none of

[00:15:18] The chargers i might have to buy that ron got the smoke system oh yeah i did yeah that was the last

[00:15:26] Minute kind of impulse buy which he wouldn't take any money for it so it wasn't a buy it was just a move to the back table kind of an impulse grab that's a yeah good way to put it impulse didn't make him money which i kind of felt bad on i don't have anything in it either i want us at a show so

[00:15:43] Well i feel better about that so i took nine and i sold six six yeah six and then came home with two so i was net minus four for the weekend now i've got to do

[00:15:59] The math hold on so i i brought 21 i sold 17 is that right yeah i sold 17 which i was very happy

[00:16:07] So you're net minus four at that point and then i bought

[00:16:14] Now these are small so it's not like they're expensive i'm in my defense we're not yeah these are mostly umx i bought five so you're plus one and for the weekend no because i said how is that i sold 17 so i don't math so i came home with what four plus those five so i came home with nine and i brought 21. net minus yeah and i'm happy for the weekend for the weekend

[00:16:42] Anyway so i started out with five i gave one away i sold one for ten dollars yeah and i bought three

[00:16:53] I thought you sold more than that that was all that was all the planes i felt so bad dave had his what was that a gws mustang yes what did you have priced on that 30 dollars plug and

[00:17:07] Plagues and i bet no fewer than and i'm going to be conservative no fewer than 30 people picked that thing up looked at it pulled the the the hatch off spun the prop whatever looked it over put the hatchback on it and sent it right back down 30 dollars and there's nothing wrong with it no nothing

[00:17:25] At all it got to the point where i was just more like okay i want somebody to buy this just didn't break the streak didn't even get an offer on it no that was so weird i thought that was weird

[00:17:36] Too and the f22 got probably 75 people picked that thing up yep same thing nobody wanted that either no now i did get some offers on the f22 but i had it priced so low i couldn't let it go for

[00:17:47] What they were offering and that was a good that's that's the good in my opinion that's the good f22 small one anyway so what it's the kyosho one oh okay 55 55 it's the same power system that's in my kyosho it flies great it flies awesome both of them do but just it it's hard to launch that one yeah you got to have wilt chamberlain hands to pawn it yeah

[00:18:08] And it takes a weird size battery too 1300 right it's a 1600 but it's a long skinny oh that's right

[00:18:13] Yeah yeah my little my f4 you can fit the little little cube 1300 cubes that fit in there so anyway yeah so i guess actually so one i bought an airplane and then yeah turned around and sold it so that i mean i don't know how that i guess that's net zero for that that's just straight up but well you bought a motor but i gained it came with a free plane yeah

[00:18:38] Kind of yeah ended up yeah that was a good deal actually the more i think about the happier i get about it yeah i mean it's nitro so yeah yeah but it's a sato golden knight yeah and it's six golden night too i know you did i'm really jealous too because it looks like brand new i think it is you

[00:18:57] Know what that needs it needs a small gasser yeah it does don't be so cryptic and confusing you guys figure say what you're talking about if you're gonna i showed you a video of a nice little 20 cc

[00:19:08] Earlier runs pretty good you sure it's 20 yeah i'm pretty sure that's a 20 the way it turns that

[00:19:13] 16 8 prop so tom bought another motor well let's don't don't talk about stuff that nobody else knows

[00:19:20] What we're talking about okay so i bought three engines i bought a fairly new four engines i guess i bought a fairly new sato 125 with the box and the okay and we're back after some technical

[00:19:34] Difficulties so that was on me i was trying a different setup for recording for when we go to joe knoll with a battery backup for actually recording on this and it made it it made it 16 minutes it apparently failed 16 ish minutes so so let's start over you bought yeah so yeah i was

[00:19:53] Talking about the sato 125 that i bought i'm pretty sure i paid about 150 for it but anyway it's like brand new maybe been run once or twice and then i bought you you bought what was it what size again sato 125 and you paid how much i think it was like 150 oh it's like new though i mean it's smooth and

[00:20:13] Yeah that's fine i didn't remember you paying that much for motor when we were there yeah and then i

[00:20:17] Bought a sato well i bought an airplane that had a sato 65 golden knight on it which i'm a huge fan of the sato 65 it's like the perfect 40 size two-stroke replacement like if you got a 40 size airplane the sato 65 is like bolt-in perfect same-ish power but sounds so much cooler but it was attached to an airplane i'll give you that they do sound a lot better so yeah i bought the airplane i i think the guy was asking 100 and i offered him no he was asking 125 he was asking 140

[00:20:53] 140 140 yeah that sounds better now that i say that yeah it was 140 and i offered him 60 and he took it that was a shocker so now this was day two though yeah it was day two so those are better on day two yeah let's be honest i mean that i know i was certainly more willing to come down on some of my prices on on saturday as opposed to friday we didn't want to take him home right so anyway i bought it for 60 took the engine off of it and then just just for gee whiz i thought

[00:21:25] Well i'll put all the stuff back together minus the engine and set it on the table for 40 bucks and if i can get if i can get 40 bucks out of it great and somebody bought it for 30 so i i got a sato 65 golden knight for 30 bucks and what was that airplane it was a great planes ultra sport 40 the arf

[00:21:42] And that's i really thought it's actually a good looking airplane i thought you were going to keep that airplane i thought that was going to be the airplane for you that whatever that blue thing is

[00:21:50] You got last year oh yeah no this one was mine as a receiver and stuff the blue thing had granted it was all old equipment but it had it was ready to fly this one didn't have a receiver or a battery

[00:22:01] Or anything but it did have servos but i mean how you picked it up for such a cheap price then you

[00:22:05] Flew it and you just like fell in love with it i probably would have because i do like ultra sports they fly they fly really nice they're like a low wing stick kind of oh yeah i can see that by looking at it yeah but so i wouldn't have been upset if nobody bought it but somebody did and so that made that purchase even sweeter and then i bought dave freiman i ran into him i was going to talk about that a little bit later but ran into him and his crew he had that a bunch of stuff out there the ama guys i think so i bought a an os 91 four stroke from those guys

[00:22:38] Really cheap in fact they i wanted to give them more for it but they wouldn't take it that's another story we'll talk about here a little bit maybe but bought that and then what's the third oh i bought a a 20 ish cc gasser out of a box of engines for 40 i think i gave for

[00:22:56] That with the ignition it's not a bad deal yeah the ignition is more than that on its own well if i

[00:23:02] Could use it it'd be yeah well it'll work on something it'll work on a big spark plug but this one hasn't i didn't notice it when i put it all together with the show but once i got home i was like trying to hook up the ignition and the big plug cap just kind of doesn't really stick to the small

[00:23:15] Spark plug so i don't remember the the box you got that out of because there was a few guys there that had boxes boxes of engines yeah so did that engine like was it connected to the to the ignition or were

[00:23:26] You able to okay no the but the engines were all just in there and then there was just various ignition boxes just kind of also in the same box and you just kind of had to pick two that you thought would work together so now but for forty dollars i mean i i'll post the video on our our facebook page but it runs actually really well turns a 168 somewhere just probably just shy of 8 000 rpm which for a little sport engine should be just fine it sounded with the

[00:23:52] Original propeller that was on it was a wood propeller it sounded a little bit lacking in rpm yeah like it just i kept when you sent me the video i kept waiting to hear that that that timber that pitch that whatever saying hey i'm full rpm and it just wasn't quite there and it was a little

[00:24:08] Disappointing yeah so i threw an apc on and it was better it sounded much better yeah so i think that wood prop is i'm not sure what it was either azore or sore i'm not sure exactly how you pronounce that

[00:24:19] It's a wooden prop yeah which but they look cool yeah the apc prop yeah definitely perked it up so

[00:24:26] Yeah yeah so yeah hopefully we'll we'll stick that 20 cc on dave's pawnee project that he's going to

[00:24:32] Talk about yeah why do i have an echo okay oh i don't know you have an echo yeah i'm not going

[00:24:40] In my ear anyway well it's not me i think i'm going to hang on to that little four stroke for right okay damn it are you are you wanting that off of him yeah it's a golden knight and it's like brand new what's that it's an 80 82 oh the 82 even better how many do you need all of them you don't

[00:24:56] Have airplanes for all well you do have airplanes you're just not going to do anything with all of you don't know that history tells

[00:25:05] Anyway so anyway yeah so those are the engines i bought and i'm pretty happy and i bought one airplane two airplanes and they're both kits weird what'd you buy so i bought the little flat foamy from r a course thanks jim and then i bought your airplane the decathlon oh that's not

[00:25:22] A kit that's an art so that's that's what threw me i was like what did you get yeah yeah that's what made the the deal of the day so nice because when we got home i just had to take one out of the trailer put it in your car and then we were finished and i was one less yeah so we i thought traffic was pretty good there were some times where it died down like later in friday i don't want to say it was a waste but there was not much going on towards the mid to late afternoon on friday yeah nothing

[00:25:52] Swap related like swap meat i mean they had the auction going on it sounded like not friday oh

[00:25:58] Friday i'm sorry yeah yeah friday is when it went till five yeah yeah and that was a little once it

[00:26:02] Got late yeah it it really slowed down and i i understand i mean most people that are going to

[00:26:07] Take the day off to go to something like that are going to take the day off and show up in the morning right by the time afternoon hits people are still working they have things going on and

[00:26:16] Yeah that's all you get and saturday went kind of how i expected it would go like it was once they opened the doors it got kind of busy remember we showed up early to to do the setup again and to walk around to see if we missed any deals or whatever there was a lot of new stuff saturday yeah but yeah once they opened the doors it got busy a whole new kind of

[00:26:38] Different crowd and then yeah early afternoon it got really really quiet in there yeah and that's that's okay yeah i mean i sold more saturday than i expected to you did you sold more than i expected you to sell period but i was on saturday too so the whole reason for selling because i'm usually not a seller i don't i like to keep stuff but i did finally order the mb339 hanger 9's new jet from brian we went to brian's place and and got that on order so hopefully i'll have that before

[00:27:10] Too terribly long so i need money because that's that's pricey yeah it's exciting though it has has

[00:27:18] It worn off has it has the excitement worn off and the and the the butterflies have they have they

[00:27:24] Gone away yet from i'm not nauseous anymore when i think about it so that's a step in the right

[00:27:29] Direction but like i said the thought if buying an airplane makes you nauseous what does that say

[00:27:35] Dave well i'm kind of in that box because i got that p40 and i just refuse to fly it because i'm just too heavily invested in it so i understand where he's at see yeah i mean like you want the

[00:27:47] Airplane you want to fly the airplane but then you're like oh god i don't know what i want to do on this but it's exciting i mean we'll get it put together we'll you'll i don't know put together i'll get it put together because i won't be here you'll be gone unfortunately but i will be able to talk more about what it takes to get into turbines yeah what it takes to get your turbine waiver what you have to have field equipment wise that's something i've wanted to

[00:28:13] Get into for quite a while so and that's a subject we have we have sort of shied away from just because we don't know anything dumbness yeah yeah we just don't know anything about it so that'll be interesting to add that that perspective to the podcast i think i mean like i'm

[00:28:27] I wish this would have been a few months from now because my goal was next year to go into turbines i mean obviously that's that was what i've said the whole time but you can't miss the opportunity when it comes up so this is a new jet hanger 9's first jet which excites me yeah i've never done anything in in this realm before yeah not not a true turbine yeah right so it should be exciting nerve-wracking lots of things all thrown into one we'll see lots of emotion

[00:29:01] Lots of crying probably lots of cussing oh hopefully there will be no crying lots of fun well it's either tears of joy or tears of sadness we'll see but no it'll be good so that's why i sold a bunch of stuff unfortunately like i came home and told crystal how i've been doing so good this year that i've sold 20 and okay so a lot of these airplanes i bought at the estate thing to sell like i didn't want to keep any of well i wanted to keep a couple of them but not many of them yes so i came home i told her i said look i have sold 28 airplanes this year i'm proud of

[00:29:36] Myself that's a good number and then she asks well how many have you bought i hadn't figured that out at that time but so far this year i have bought 33 so i'm still positive and that's only because that is only because of all the ones that i bought in toledo and they're all small so it does not necessarily count that much against me they were cheap like inexpensive cheap see i'm justifying so

[00:30:07] We're all in the 60 club yeah all four of us got a 60 airplane that's true yeah i don't know who won on

[00:30:12] That one though i don't have it anymore so i guess i'm out of the running for winning that's true

[00:30:21] Quote from our stop it january episode this is ron quote i'm getting rid of planes next year with the intent to make my list more refined or net negative i feel as though i still have time to

[00:30:37] Make that happen you do because i'm i'm so what are you for the year one more then what do you

[00:30:43] Mean like right now what are you for the year plus one plus 10 plus 15 what is it plus five oh well

[00:30:50] That's not bad that's what i mean like i have sold 28 and i've brought in 33 oh that's that's for the year oh i thought that was just okay no that's that's what i'm saying like it's not as and the five

[00:31:01] That's literally the five that i bought there and i so really you only need to sell seven more to be

[00:31:08] At least net negative negative one because there's the jets coming yeah yeah but that's assuming i don't buy anything else we'll see how that i mean it's still early in the year but there's a swap meet coming up by the way this weekend yes there is are we going down i mean yeah if you want to i mean

[00:31:24] I'm gonna already be down there and i'm gonna be heading home that way just like we did last year so if you want to go we can i'm okay with not going if you don't want to go i don't mind dave sunday it's the one down in like meeting us down in columbia columbia yeah i got nothing going on i'll check okay yeah we'll have to figure out timing and stuff sunday would be the day i would be able to go well that's the day it is one day right so i couldn't remember that works out well two day but

[00:31:50] No it's a one day and that's usually a good one like i've had it was good last year yeah yeah i remember

[00:31:54] That one i don't remember what i bought i think that's where i bought the the umx sbox i believe is where i picked that up and then you bought the p47 i think that's right yeah yeah yeah that's a

[00:32:06] Good one then yeah and i've flown that sbox several times so from the p47 several times there you go

[00:32:11] Good airplanes i wish i had more time to prepare because i'm leaving tomorrow to go down that direction for our race if i had room i would take stuff to sell out yeah i mean yeah i i don't

[00:32:25] Want to lug stuff down there i mean i only have a couple well really one arf at this point that i want to get rid of that i know i want to get rid of the other two that i brought back are ones that i had bought before to put together and i still might talk myself into doing that sometime it's just a couple small boxes yeah so it's not like it's so they should be put in the car then well that's if i decide to get rid of i need something to take to toledo next year because i really do want to go

[00:32:52] Back to the next year oh and something else that we've decided well i say we i mean i and i could probably talk dave into doing it too but for toledo next year they have that huge open space to do the indoor flying park flyers so dave i think and i are going to do what we used to do for rc car races we'll go to toledo buy an airplane kit or flat foamy kit or something put it together that night and

[00:33:22] Then fly it the next day at toledo do you think that's possible really yeah oh yeah the amount of

[00:33:28] Time it takes glue to dry and all that stuff oh yeah well no you don't have to you could buy something yeah you could you could buy something ready to fly there too if you need to like somebody that somebody else is selling umx stuff ready to go yeah true why not but then you have to have the charger you have to have the right batteries we took a trailer this year you can take that stuff with

[00:33:47] You that's true and we'll probably do the same thing next year i've got about five chargers in

[00:33:51] That tub that i didn't sell yeah there you go i forgot to take my charger and a couple other things i

[00:33:55] Wanted to get rid of i meant to take my transmitter with me and i meant to take it last year too so we could oh i thought you meant to well you you did last year didn't i yeah oh yeah i did that's

[00:34:07] Right we were able to test some of the receivers that's right but now you have meant to do that

[00:34:11] This year and i forgot it no big deal either way so next year yeah toledo if anyone else is going to go are you up to the challenge buy an airplane there and fly it there that weekend you talking to

[00:34:23] Me or just anybody oh i was gonna but yes you too i'll i i'll bring something maybe but i don't know if what is that i don't know sorry cans oh it's windy i wonder something blew over outside

[00:34:37] It is windy it's storming actually on our way here tonight so awesome thanks for that fun stuff anyway

[00:34:43] So what i bought yes let's get to that yet so this might be a good thing might be a bad thing we'll see it's a umx twin otter the new one that just came out however the guy that had before me put a 2s lipo in it and burned up the board so i think i mean i'm gonna come out ahead if i replace it because i was looking at pricing and stuff on the board so it's not that big of a deal so i think i'll probably fix that yeah and it looks like brand new but i don't think it i think they literally bought it first time and first time with the wrong size battery in it and it doesn't

[00:35:17] Have a scratch on it no it's never been flown i mean the wheels are still like it'll look cool

[00:35:21] Sitting next to the big umx or the big twin otter excuse me yes it will as long as i get it fixed

[00:35:28] And i bought finally a umx radian got a good deal on one of those except the guy that i mean it doesn't look like it's been flown very much either the guy that had it put a a camera on it like a what's it called a fpv camera yeah does nothing for me but if i cut it off then there's a hole where the wires were ran through i mean he did a good job on it like it looks like it was done well

[00:35:51] From what i can see so it's not like it was back together so that's not that it doesn't come from e-flight with that on it no oh no see i thought it did well see that means it looks pretty decent then you don't know yeah the mount the mounting looks really good yeah see fpv might be fun except

[00:36:07] It makes me sick other than that yeah we've talked about it before and it makes me nauseous too i can't

[00:36:12] Do it dave have you tried it never tried although i can't play doom on the computer i get sick so so he's probably would be on the same boat as yeah or the same plane we're on nice other thing i've

[00:36:25] Always wanted to try one of the convergence airplanes the ones that the vertical take off the whole thing yeah they had a not umx the mini version i guess is what they call it so i ended up buying that for 35 brand new i mean like the stickers haven't been put or haven't even been put on yet so i'm excited to try that if it's not good i'm not out much of anything something different to fly out here yeah just for funsies and i didn't even know they made a umx spacewalker

[00:36:57] Oh yeah that one's been around a while so that's an older one it is an older one i didn't know they

[00:37:01] Made it but that was 15 bucks so couldn't pass that up i think what do you mean good ish well from what i it's been flown a bit right well it's okay i thought you meant the shape of the plane

[00:37:11] Yeah i mean it's it's used oh i like this but it's not been abused hopefully gotcha yep and the

[00:37:19] Last thing i got this is this is either my mistake or going to turn out to be a cool airplane that probably never will get flown it caught my eye from across the the room it was up high on a table and i even called you over to look at it tommy and i got the look of oh that's a cool looking airplane because i think you wanted or you thought i wanted to hear that that's exactly what happened

[00:37:48] So it's a glider i didn't want to rain on your parade i could tell you were already enamored with

[00:37:53] It so i didn't want to like poop on it well but sometimes it's good to have somebody bring you

[00:37:56] Back down to earth as had i had i picked it up first i probably would have went the other direction

[00:38:03] But anyway so yes i agree with that it's i didn't know what it was bought it without picking it up and made an offer and stuff on and he took it and then i i picked it up and it's what do you think maybe 48 inch wingspan it's not huge yeah that's probably well that range it's probably a little bit more than that because it wouldn't fit across in the trailer and that's a fire of no five by eight it's a five by eight trailer so it wouldn't fit straight across are you sure

[00:38:36] Oh it's bigger than i thought then i'll have to measure it just to be sure but anyway it is it's a glider that i had no clue what it was picked it up and it weighs like 1400 pounds

[00:38:51] It's it's for the size it's probably what do you think honestly like eight pounds it's i'm not sure if it's eight but it's it's somewhere significant yeah it's it's not going to be a very good glider

[00:39:03] It's not a floater no probably not but it's an actual okay so i didn't know what it was i liked it bought it obviously came home it's been a few days since we've been home and i have not touched anything that we came home with i had to go out to the garage the other day to get a gallon of milk yesterday to get a gallon of milk and blah blah blah long story short i looked at it as i walked by and i saw that there were n numbers on the tail oh really and i was like let's do a quick google i didn't even notice that i didn't either until i was out there so i did a quick google search and

[00:39:37] I actually found out what it was and after seeing what it is it is a very good scale model of what that airplane is so it was according to because this is where i found the information on the national soaring museum's website soaringmuseum.org it's a schweitzer sq or sgp 1-1

[00:40:03] Okay means nothing to me means nothing but there was a picture of it on there and it i mean like it's a very good scale model of it like i said i was very surprised at how it matches like the actual but like the the skid on the bottom matches it where the guy sits the seat like sexual molded seat that looks just like the seat that was on it no kidding it's it's really cool apparently it was originally built between like 1929 and 1930 is when they built the first one and i guess there was three of these the brothers that built it and long story short

[00:40:38] In 1989 they got together with some of their friends built another one a replica of their original one all three of them flew it like they actually flew it and then donated to that soaring museum and it's been there ever since that's awesome i kind of thought that was neat too so it's a scale model it is very scale like i said if you look at all the i would not have guessed that it looks very

[00:41:00] Pioneer like yeah like i i would not have like at the show looking at it i would not have guessed that

[00:41:06] That was a scale model i should have shown you a picture first because it looks just like it like that single tail boom yeah with no reinforcements on either side that's exactly how the actual glider look and this one's neat too because it has the toe release huh found the sound oh you're not a drink over okay no big deal but anyway it actually has the glider toe release on the front of it so now we have one of those if we need to use it on a different airplane and they did a good job that i thought was kind of cool you don't see any electronics so you don't see the servos

[00:41:40] They're hidden you don't see the radio you don't see the battery that is all actually inside of the guy the pilot the pilot that's sitting on there has all that stuff hidden inside of him yeah about

[00:41:50] The only thing that tells you there's electronics on is you can just kind of make out the switch

[00:41:54] Yeah which and i guess there's one one servo horn you can see on the bottom but i think that's what controls his feet feet to turn the rudder yeah yeah and the only reason we had to find the switch

[00:42:05] Just because you accidentally turned it on and then it started yeah i mean it started moving and buzzing and making i had no clue where it was but yeah we found it cool well that's neat that that's a scale like i like i said i would not have guessed that hopefully it glides well i don't

[00:42:22] Think it's going to but we'll have to fly it i don't know i mean i need to what's the point of having if we don't like we can throw it behind the small telemaster and get it done that way i'm not

[00:42:32] Sure the small telemaster has enough power pull this heavy thing i mean it's heavy it's it would be interesting to see what it actually weighs because it in your head excuse me in your hand it feels very heavy yeah six pounds for sure we'll get it up behind the l4 there you go oh there

[00:42:48] You go do you have a toe on that it wouldn't be hard to rig one we don't have any planes that are ready to tow we need to fix that i agree let's fix that good talk okay then make a note all right

[00:43:02] So dave really what did you get i got a umx all tricks yeah yeah so i got it really cheap with a light kit in it it's oh sweet essentially brand new it's not a ding about its work both taillights work beautifully there was a little bit of a strange tape job on it so i pulled all the tape off and hot glued those on but it came with i think it came with tape didn't it yeah it came with tape to put it on so that's not mine no it didn't no no i used nevermind i used blend derm

[00:43:37] On the front of it and then i used some hot glue to secure the taillights perfect i think

[00:43:43] That's exactly what i did online actually and there's no i think about it i don't know dings or

[00:43:47] Anything on it so if it's been flown it's just been once or twice nice but it looks better than

[00:43:51] Mine well yes we won't go into that whomp that was on purpose level on accident whatever so now

[00:44:00] The three of us can play the fun game and watch you crash into the into the ground i'm game until

[00:44:04] I get it fixed and then i bought a what is it hanger nine piper poni yep the old one the old one with and it came with a seto 82 in it which i didn't even know which motor was in it i just knew it was a golden knight that was on it i'm so jealous price was pretty good on it it's not great but pretty good and i got some plans for this one it's going to be stripped and arf bashed into a stand way the heck off scale skywarden that's gonna be nice i think it'll be cool

[00:44:41] That's gonna be cool looking so i've got the fuselage and tail stripped down right now i will be making a brand new rudder for it because the old rudder i don't know how they did it it was busted up and poorly glued but yet i can't see where they changed any of the coverings so i'm not even sure how they pulled that one off that's yeah impressive and so i'll be making a new rudder for it but there are a lot of little cracks and dings in it that you would never see if you didn't recover because it looked flyable yeah had you not taken the covering off

[00:45:14] But there's a lot of little things and poor glue joints being an arf yeah in it but we'll get all that straightened out that's no problem and this this is going to turn out pretty cool yeah i'm going to try to maybe do a little series on it of taking the photos as we go along oh that'd

[00:45:27] Be great do an arf bash article yeah that'd be awesome that'll be cool sweet yeah dave has done way more since we got home than than the two of us combined well i add zero to whatever that total

[00:45:39] Is so and all i did was run an engine yeah that's and then i have to track down a fifth scale pilot for this thing that doesn't weigh a ton and a half and doesn't cost a hundred bucks

[00:45:50] Yeah i still need to get well if if we find a pilot you want printed without making our own we can

[00:45:55] Print one yeah if i could find anything so my brother could run something out but you've got

[00:46:00] The cool gooey thing so i don't know how to take that but thank you the gooey printer yes the whatever that printer is called i don't remember right now but the l goo or l something i don't know what it is no what's the photon i say i don't have it written down in front of me no idea doesn't matter the gooey printer it's the the vat and the anyway it's been a long time so anyway we'll

[00:46:24] Look at that and then the third one i picked up was we're not quite sure what that we're not sure what it is it's got a decathlon tail yeah it looks like an l19 yeah but not really well it's covered

[00:46:37] As if it were an l19 but it has a decathlon tail but too many windows for a decathlon too many windows for a decathlon it has a cath a decathlon ish cow cow but no chins but no chin scoop scoop thank you so it's weird i don't know what it is i'm not sure what it is we're going to just generically

[00:46:54] Call it an l19 at this point perfect but it's not and it was on a rack it is beat to death

[00:47:01] Really rough oh was that from back in that corner with all the airplanes that look like they came up a barn from 48 years ago yeah i know which one you're talking about but no this one came from

[00:47:13] Another table that had other beat to death airplanes on it oh okay and a couple thousand dollar airplanes it's at the same time yeah so it was kind of an odd mix of rough and wow yeah this one is definitely on the rough side yeah in fact he didn't even have a price on it it was just like make me an offer so 65 club it was 64 dollars i'm 64 because i opened my wallet and showed him this is all i've got that's a good trick i need to start doing but and he took it that's how i bought the

[00:47:47] Last 10 out of there yeah yeah it has a motor in it and it seems to be in good shape not the bearings

[00:47:53] Don't seem crunching or anything yeah i looked it over it's got good compression got servos in it

[00:47:57] Their old s128s i mean it's serviceable stuff but this will be a fun little restoration project and it's got good bones somewhere under the rickets but it'll come out of it i think it's a i think

[00:48:10] It's a honestly i think it's a decathlon but they did the window count is wrong i know they did something different with it because the wingtips are decathlon or satabria and the tail is for sure satabra or decathlon which are the same airplane basically but yeah so it's got a little 40 size

[00:48:29] Two-stroke in it i think it'll be fun and sparing so yeah it's gonna turn out nice my favorite part of

[00:48:35] That one was the pilot oh yeah this looks like he just melted and is staring towards the sky yeah it looks like a muppet had a really bad day straight up i mean it looked like he broke his

[00:48:47] Neck in a crash yeah and the windows are damaged on it but not enough to melt a pilot that to that

[00:48:52] Extent so i don't know what's going on purpose who knows but it does look funny yeah yeah weird

[00:48:57] Yeah he's going immediately in the trash don't throw him away don't throw it away i like it just

[00:49:03] For the ugliness sake for some reason you should put it in one of your airplanes maybe i will if he's getting rid of it i figured you'd let it stay in there maybe you could put in the back as like a i was gonna say like a a patient or something oh that needs transport medevac yeah yeah definitely

[00:49:18] It's fitting yeah it definitely looks the part yeah for sure what i wanted to say though when you

[00:49:24] When you were talking about nice airplanes next to not so nice airplanes i was surprised with how many expensive big airplanes were there yeah that didn't sell like i noticed none of the big ones that i was eyeing not to buy but like just looking at at the beginning really sold yeah there were some that were very expensive but what surprised me is there were three jets there three actual turbines all three of those sold we think no the guy said they all sold oh he did yeah i saw them walk out

[00:49:55] With their new owners yeah i was very surprised by that because those i mean one of those i think was

[00:49:59] Almost four grand definitely more turbines there this year than there was last year that i saw i don't remember looking last year i was looking kind of not to buy but just out of curiosity to see because it's interesting to see what shows up at a swap meet yeah and the pricing and yeah and this year there were not only airplanes that were ready to go with turbines in them but they're all were also turbines for sale like sitting out in the box sitting out in boxes what do you think eight or so all together yeah probably somewhere yeah yeah because we talked to the talked to one of the

[00:50:31] Cat sitting there yeah yeah and the prices seemed reasonable to me but i couldn't tell you i don't know enough well i mean compared to like so the what was that as i don't know the sizing and all that but it was a smallish there was there was a king tech 45 yeah i know that was one of them that was there yeah and then he had another one that was a little bit older of the same size i thought it was a little bit bigger oh maybe it was but 600 and 800 right which to me a brand new turbine's

[00:51:02] 2500 3000 and that no no 17 17 to 2 i think is what we looked up give or take that's quite a substantial markdown well yeah even though it's used you got a golden knight for 30 bucks well a used one that was it's well it's gonna need some love these probably did too

[00:51:25] Yeah or i mean like i don't know exactly how many hours you get on all these before you have to send them in right but i know i mean the guy said one of them had like 17 hours on it which i think is getting pretty close to like a 25 hour oh send in okay one of them didn't have a lot of time on

[00:51:41] It i remember one of them he said yeah it's pretty low time but but they were older so they required the fuel change i don't know i mean yes but i don't know on propane but then you'd run them on

[00:51:51] Kerosene or diesel or whatever i yeah i mean that's stuff i want to learn about i just you should have been listening when he was talking i was listening but i don't know how you switch it over or how you actually works either like how you actually start it if you have to run a blower through it to start spinning it up or or what that's yeah i don't know well one of them had the had the electric motor on the nose of it one of them did but the other one didn't did not right so i imagine you probably have to do the leap blower thing but which is okay with me i don't mind

[00:52:19] Tinkering yeah so it'd be fun to to purchase a used one like that to play with that's what

[00:52:24] You should do get one of the older ones that are just not fancy and techy like the one i'm getting

[00:52:30] And we can compare i'd be perfectly happy just taking one running it up on the bench yeah ever

[00:52:35] Put it mounted on a on a piece of two by six or whatever with all the fuel system and just have it like as a toy to play with or whatever i'm definitely doing that when i get my i think that

[00:52:43] Would be fun use it blow the leaves around yeah was it 14 or 15 pounds of thrust i think is what i'm getting i believe that that's not too bad that'd be fun so what got me was amazing variety

[00:52:56] Of things you could see there strangest thing i've ever seen at any swap meet ever this guy had a foot

[00:53:03] And a half tall brass acorn squash yeah and it went away yeah i saw lots of different people walking around with it like i don't know what the there had to have been something we didn't

[00:53:16] Understand to know about or something he had it in his garage was picking up stuff to bring to the show and oh you asked about it yeah because that's where we got the other item yeah that's

[00:53:29] What daniel got his purchase we'll talk about daniel's in a minute yeah so yeah i talked to him about the acorn squash so he just it was in his garage he thought oh grab that i'm selling stuff whatever somebody actually bought it then yeah because i saw it walking around within different people's hands so i must have seen the guy that owned it bringing it in and then i must have seen the person that bought it take it out so yeah i've never seen an 18 inch acorn squash brass one like a

[00:53:57] Like a shiny yeah weird i saw it from afar i didn't really pay much attention so i'm assuming spray paint i don't know it was not solid brass yeah i mean like i don't know it was brass plated or something or a spray i didn't look at it that close i didn't either yeah weird stuff cool stuff a lot of boxes that you had to pick through to find and i i honestly i don't do well with that like i'm not much of a i don't know what i'm looking for so i'm not much into going through boxes and trying to find stuff a few things i knew i was looking for but nothing

[00:54:31] Yeah like not just the the fun of the hunt yeah i was on the lookout for some specific items like

[00:54:37] For the f18 which i didn't find any of so by the way those parts are coming from aliexpress we didn't talk about that next year sometime maybe i don't know we didn't talk about that did we last time so i pulled over i didn't want to bring it up because i you were i feel like you were still

[00:54:55] Feeling some kind of way about it no it's okay i mean it happens it's my fault i take responsibility for it i think it's partially my fault but so i had that f18 the e-flight f18 that i picked up in decatur last year that i finally spent the money on a battery and so i took it out to the field i i really like i should have stood up to what i was thinking let's be honest like i was complete let's

[00:55:25] Let's honesty here therapy yeah you were going to not fly it i was not going to fly it and then you let somebody go not really goad you but you listened to somebody else like me say oh it's it's fine the wind is right down the runway it's perfect conditions for flying a jet which if you're going to have wind and flying a jet you you need a little bit of wind sometimes and it was right down the runway so i wasn't technically wrong but you were you had made up your mind you were not going to fly it i was on the fence and i talked you into it and i should have kept my mouth shut i was on the fence

[00:55:58] Leaning towards not yeah i should have kept my mouth but then you said that i'm like he's right what's the big deal let's let's try this i'm completely faultless in this situation david wasn't even there yet he's washed his hands of all well he wasn't there yet he showed up after the fact and so then i go to take off and edf on grass problematic and not a terribly big edf now is it 70 it's an 80 millimeter fan yeah on a 6s 5000 yeah so as i'm going down the runway to take off

[00:56:33] I get towards where they don't have it mowed anymore like they mow it really short for the rc field right and then since we're on an actual long runway the rest of it yeah the rest of it is normal grass height i mean i don't know how else to work but other than like what you would cut your grass at home tall grass tallish yeah and so i was coming up to that and in my mind i was going back and forth between okay i'm really getting to the point where i just need to turn this off or pull up and see what happens and i'm getting to that point i'm like all right it's time just to

[00:57:06] Abort because i don't have enough speed and i am far enough away to where i can't really see it very well again i should have just kept my mouth shut and so the devil on my left side says pull up so

[00:57:20] Without thinking i just pull up well here's what was going through my head you were you were really close to that tall grass and i didn't want to i didn't want you to rip the gear out from under the airplane so i was thinking if he pulls up he'll he'll gain the airspeed he needs if he does it the way i would do it you haven't flown an edf not like that no not like that one so you didn't have the experience that i assumed in my head oh i told you i had no experience

[00:57:50] This happened like milliseconds yeah so anyway i said pull up and you did and then what happened and

[00:57:56] Then it dropped a wing because it was starting to stall yeah so as it was doing that i was trying to correct it and it just stalled out completely and fell out of the sky only from about five feet

[00:58:06] In the air yeah it wasn't it wasn't very high but it was moving at a pretty good rate of speed not

[00:58:11] Enough to take off on its own it was i mean it would have went but yeah well for me it wouldn't have went because and see i think there's a definite technique so there was which i should have there was some regret afterwards mostly because my plan with that was to take it to eli field yes for the first flights which would have been perfect yep i was excited because i bought that battery that same day but yeah that was the same day wasn't it the day before day before when we went

[00:58:42] Up to brian's yeah but anyway so day before whatever it was the same day no it was because i couldn't go

[00:58:48] With you to brian's because i was working oh that's right but that was friday after no no it was the same day because we got back early enough to go fly remember yeah but it was friday because that

[00:58:58] Was the day we had friday off yeah oh that's right went right after work yeah so anyway my original plan was to not fly that here to take it out to eli field because it's got a nice paved runway just to get some stick time on it before i did anything here to kind of see how it handled and what i had

[00:59:14] Power wise what how to how to go with it but unfortunately that didn't happen i didn't stick to my guns and i didn't think about it and i put it in the car which i shouldn't have done that to begin with and it is no more and i am done with it like i am well no don't say that to me it's i mean it's maybe i'll fly it just to crash it again i guess i don't know like not on purpose but one i don't care about but it's not it's not anything i'm excited about like i was i got a box in the truck we'll just

[00:59:42] Fill that right up so i don't understand like i've already got it it's repaired i'm just waiting on parts now okay like and it looks it looks pretty good still i'll have to see it okay i mean because i mean like it could use a little paint touch up but i mean otherwise i mean it actually looks pretty good especially from the top but really i mean from the top i haven't seen it like got new gear doors it'll have a new nose gear it'll have a brand new fan see i still i don't like the fact

[01:00:13] That you're spending money on this either i owe you money for this no you don't i do yeah because i'm going to fly it too oh there you go it's yours now no i have a battery it's not oh no that's not

[01:00:22] What i don't have use for that battery but anything else no it's not a write-off it was a very very easy fix honestly it really was like you could have fixed it i wasn't going to i know you

[01:00:34] Weren't but you could have anyway it will fly again and so the other thing that made that worse was that is the day after i ordered a jet and that's the bad part what and the why but no big deal i was not out a lot of money on that because that was cheap completely different airplanes oh i know i mean the the turbine should fly much easier that's a trainer turbine

[01:00:59] Right i mean so i'm not the two are completely different animals but that one will be flown

[01:01:04] First at eli field with the help of people that actually know how to fly turbines because you have to do that when you have a turbine at the beginning yep so and unfortunately i won't

[01:01:13] Probably be there but if i was i would keep my mouth shut and just watch from afar no it's like

[01:01:19] It's not your fault it's all on me i completely well i should have understand if i had not been there

[01:01:25] You would not have flown it is that fair to say that is fair to say okay then so there you go i feel some kind of way about it too anyway so there you go it's gonna get repaired and you're gonna fly it or well it will get flown somebody's gonna fly it like i said i have the battery for

[01:01:41] It well you can use that and nothing else i don't have anything else the space walker doesn't use

[01:01:47] That no for us can you put a success in it i don't that'd be fun i don't know i'd have to look

[01:01:53] Around six on six cells i don't think it i don't think it'll go up to success on what i put in it maybe i'll have to look we'll see but for us definitely and i just bought one of those batteries it was delivered today by the way d24s 5000 i know but i charge it the first time to see how it charged 10 minutes less 12 minutes to go from storage charge all the way to fully charged that's impressive that's what makes it especially a battery that size yep i i get it they're expensive but i i get it don't think about the cost and it's okay yeah so something that was fun that also happened at

[01:02:29] A few more people recognized us this year than last year it was pretty much just dave freiman last year we saw him again this year which was really cool and by the way dave if you're listening thanks for the gps unit so david apparently heard us ramble on a prior episode about renting the spectrum gps module so we could do speed tests or whatever so yeah he showed up and gave me a gps module so we can play with that so well that

[01:03:00] Was very nice i didn't realize that that was cool he would not take anything for like i tried to pay for it it had had 40 i tried to give him 40 i tried to give him a 20 he would not he was adamant that that he not take anything for it so of course we're going to use that and put anything we do with that on the podcast so thanks dave but it was cool to run into some some other listeners this year it was a few more than last year so that was kind of neat yeah made you uncomfortable but i

[01:03:27] Was in my element a lot of our canadian friends yeah ran across a lot of canadians that were listening to us yeah which is neat apparently because that's all i can do now i'm not flying

[01:03:35] Although i did get we did get an update at the show they are the nice like gosh i can't remember

[01:03:40] Her name the two older women they were just great with their with their husbands but they are

[01:03:45] Gradually reopening sites in canada which is i must not have been there for that good news so yeah her husband and her husband's friend were both members of a club that had been recently reauthorized up in canada so they're flying now so good for them yeah i have to take back my statement

[01:04:00] Because just every canadian i talked to they were they are up and flying now so good nice getting

[01:04:06] Back to some sort of normalcy yeah yeah that was i was glad to hear that because

[01:04:10] It's been kind of bad news for them for a while but the sticky point is the registration for each

[01:04:15] And every airplane yeah i don't i mean it's it's i get it it's easy to do for them they can get on online and do it but it's five dollars for each one i think i have 49 airplanes yeah so that could add that's up quick how long does that last any any clue i think once i think in can't not we should have looked this up canadian listeners correct me if i'm wrong but i think if you register an airplane i think that is that registration is good for the life of the airplane i think which might be 30 seconds well right but thanks dave

[01:04:51] That's not bad if it is for the life of the airplane i mean really i i think i i'm not

[01:04:57] Sure okay i seem to recall reading somewhere in the stuff that got sent to us that i think i remember seeing that somewhere but what is it for hours well we don't have to register ours do we

[01:05:09] Don't we're supposed to have the faa number but it's just one per number per all of your person yeah

[01:05:15] Yeah per person yeah and that number is good for two years yeah i think two years two or three i just

[01:05:22] Had to redo mine a few months ago i don't remember what it was did you get a notice yes okay i haven't got one so mine must be good i think so no i did yeah but anyway it was it was cool to to run into

[01:05:34] People who had who kind of recognized of course i did i was wearing a shirt with my name on it and you had your shirt with your name on it so yeah and dave had his shirt with and i'm dave on it which and i kind of stick out i think it's hilarious so we talked about what we got what about

[01:05:50] Daniel what did he get yeah that's the one that i just i just want to say i'm usually the one that does stuff like this so it was good to see somebody else buy something like ludicrous yes so i didn't want to be the one to say it but go on dave what did your brother so he bought a

[01:06:08] Bunch of little bits and pieces on saturday or excuse me friday and was kind of looking around these different airplanes and there's a guy on the one back wall he had several airplanes that he was interested in it's actually where i ended up getting my piper punny from oh so that's where

[01:06:23] It came from okay yeah and i thought it was at the back and go ahead there were he just was

[01:06:29] Wishy-washy about he wanted he has no type that he likes to fly he just wishy-washy whatever looks cool to him i mean like you said they had three or four back there that he was kind of interested in they had a quarter scale cub that was kind of rough i mean it was okay but it was and he was just looking around we ended up finding him a sixty dollar airplane he got a little mini

[01:06:52] Stick was it yeah the e-flight the e-flight the old one the old version yeah with the flight and

[01:06:57] Everything very cool we bought some bigger wheels for it it needs minor minor work and it's gonna be really nice airplane so he those are fun to fly so he joined the sixty dollar club with everybody else and he had sold a couple of those airplanes that he took up there so he had a little spending spending money with him and the guy across from us had this third scale monster balsa usa cub

[01:07:23] Unusual paint scheme it is unusual i've never seen a cub painted this way white neon green and black

[01:07:29] I'm not sure i'd say it's me i don't think i go but it's a bright green it is a bright green yeah yeah but it's unusual yeah and it's got like a a quarter star and the rays are off of the wings

[01:07:42] And the tail japanese flag how is that the the ray and the rays kind of like that but a quarter it was all nicely done yeah it looks really good i can't say it's my style but it was nicely done right but nicely done a long time ago yeah it's an older airplane it you open up the side door it's got a funk to it smells like death i got it yeah probably a mouse to be honest i mean

[01:08:05] It i don't know what the funk is but it's something all nasty yes and so how was the ride home with

[01:08:13] That in your car david crowded did it smell though i mean like it stink up the car or did you just get used to it and you didn't notice daniel took his shoes off we were fine

[01:08:27] No i'm kidding so it wasn't too bad it was kind of buried under a bunch of stuff because it got

[01:08:33] A little snug in the truck so i'm i'm terrible about taking pictures like i i'll do stuff and i when they were taking this airplane out of the building and and i didn't get pictures of them putting it in the car but i took pictures of them getting it out of the building that's how entertaining it was and i don't take pictures normally so the elevator ride was fun yeah it got

[01:08:54] Comical both of us the fuselage and somebody and somebody else with their stuff yeah yeah i would

[01:09:00] Have waited i can fit i'll jump right in here with these guys you can't wait 30 seconds we compare

[01:09:05] There's two elevators you can wait for the other one we gotta explain my brother i'm a big guy my brother is a big guy he's got another three inches on me he's not a small guy no yeah so so here's

[01:09:17] These two guys with this huge airplane in one of these kind of standard size elevators and then yeah some guy that was waiting for the elevator behind you just went ahead and jumped right in because there was a spot that he could just fit in i didn't quite i've got a square foot i can stand on so i took

[01:09:33] A picture of that too yeah that was that was pretty good that was an interesting interesting purchase

[01:09:39] Yeah yes and then we had to put it in the truck yeah so i have a third scale cub with its 140 inch

[01:09:46] Wing at least it's two pieces at least it was two pieces so that's a good thing i did not sell my

[01:09:51] P40 so i've got my p40 to bring home yeah the tub of leftover stuff plus the two other or three other

[01:09:58] Airplanes that i purchased yeah which which aren't really small air they're 40 size but the pony is 80

[01:10:05] Inches yeah the pony is a good size airplane so we got all that in there plus the three that i didn't sell yeah and our baggage and yeah i'm really good at tetris yeah oh by the way don't forget your chair oh yeah it's in my garage yeah we forgot about the chair now we could have got the chair in there if we thought about it but i forgot you guys had it yeah and it had to go on the bottom oh we had it i thought yeah it was in the trailer it was in the trailer i thought

[01:10:34] They were packed and asked us to take it because they couldn't fit it no it was so that the his

[01:10:38] Chair was in the trailer because they didn't need it obviously so he's like hey can you put it in the trailer i gotcha okay and if i had remembered it we could have put it on the bottom and everything

[01:10:45] Would have packed nice in fact it probably would have been nice to keep the cub from rolling around

[01:10:50] Yeah so you were like we were last year you were absolutely loaded in there so tight all right so

[01:10:58] Six and a half hours in this truck not a stinking rattle from anything because it's all jammed in there

[01:11:03] So that's how packed it was i love it so funny yeah because that's exactly how our ride was last

[01:11:08] Year yeah and then on the way home this year we have like nothing all right so here is the big

[01:11:12] Problem we get this thing packed to the gills it is tight i go to get it in the truck and realize where am i going to put my crutches oh no i didn't even think of that either yeah so we're gonna put them daniel was able to dig a hole on his side of the truck

[01:11:30] Needless to say we didn't stop off and i didn't get out yeah i don't know how we passed you somehow you left like a half hour before we did yeah i don't know if it was quite a half hour but it was

[01:11:39] Before us quite a bit and somehow yeah we well we took a detour trying to find a restroom and every place we hit was closed and i couldn't get out yeah it was detours oh i didn't get lost this time there was no hood involved no ditches no pulling out in front of

[01:12:00] Semis or anything like that no scary death days nothing nothing no reggie screaming in the are we

[01:12:06] All alive yeah truck doesn't have a dent on it that's true perfect oh gosh good times that's funny

[01:12:13] Yeah so so that's our what next year well yeah we're going i think so i think maybe we should

[01:12:22] If we can do dayton also because we've got a lot of feedback on folks who had gone to the date and swap meet and said that was pretty good too i heard that was more expensive from a lot of

[01:12:31] People that went there and then came to this one oh okay well we definitely have to do perry i mean that's that's we'll see when but yes but yeah i don't know what next year is going to bring yeah like if not next year i would like to do it the year after for sure yeah

[01:12:43] Okay but plans change so we'll see i don't think i'm taking the p40 again it was just

[01:12:50] Too much you had too many people looking at it and not well it looked like there was one guy that

[01:12:55] Was kind of serious but then it didn't i guess he didn't did he even make it i never even got an offer on it oh you just you just need to fly it or i had a lot of people say oh it's beautiful or well it is i mean it really is like i so knew for the swap meet at toledo this year was

[01:13:13] I was going to say before we get to talk about that but also tell what this airplane is we just

[01:13:18] Say p40 but what oh okay anyway new for toledo this year was that they also had a scale like a contest right like an event and so dave's p40 it's a top flight gold series the 60 size kit that dave built and detailed and like when i say detailed i don't mean like he he weathered it a little bit i mean he fiberglassed it painted it panel lines a little bit of weathering lots of tabs yeah lots of little scale details like trim tabs i mean it's the the toe lugs on the landing

[01:13:53] Gear pedo too i mean the thing is sliding canopy the whole retractable landing light yeah i mean it's it's beautiful and i'm not just saying that because you're my friend i mean it like if i saw it in the scale competition i'd be like that thing is gorgeous so i was like well you should put it in the scale competition if it like if you're not gonna sell it i mean it's it would i think it would have had a shot in the people's choice award or whatever but that's how pretty it is i agree and you've got so much time in it that i could have built a full-size kit fox in

[01:14:26] Less time yeah see i agree with that but he was trying to sell it no i get that so i get that that one person didn't come by that wanted it but if it was up there nobody would have been able to really

[01:14:38] See that it was for sale what i mean well they were i mean they were in the set like all those competition planes were in the center aisle okay but let me ask you this so one of the things that

[01:14:48] People do there that let me ask you they leave their table and put their cell phone number on there and says if interested call i saw a few of those yeah yeah what are your thoughts on that

[01:15:00] I would prefer the person to be there so i can deal with them i don't think i would ever call

[01:15:05] Personally yeah so i mean that's that's my point like if you just put a thing on there that said

[01:15:09] For sale call when it's come see me in the next hall i i don't think that would have had any takers either but at any rate i mean it would have it is what it is i think it would have competed at least i think it would have too yeah because the air oh yeah some of the airplanes were beautiful but some of them i think yeah i think yours it's okay to say that some of them were yeah some of those were my scale some of some of them were just simply put up there because their sheer size they weren't particularly scale no gray wheels tires i wasn't gonna say anything

[01:15:43] Okay so now you're talking about a cub that was absolutely huge what was that maybe a 40 oh my gosh

[01:15:48] Yeah it was at least 40 i mean it was cool neat yeah but gray tires it looked like they were just off of a lawnmower but gray yeah gray like almost do they make tires gray rubber tires for airplanes

[01:16:03] Like full size like i don't think i've ever seen it i've never seen a modern aircraft with a gray tire

[01:16:07] Well right well but okay anywho yeah which i thought was it kind of spoiled the whole thing

[01:16:14] For me it was gorgeous up to you for me as soon as i got the tires i spoiled it yeah it's for me but

[01:16:19] It was a huge cub yeah like yeah and i bet the biggest ones i've seen i bet it flies awesome but

[01:16:24] You would yeah i mean you would almost have to but anyway yeah i can understand the the feeling i'm not trying to take the p40 again so now you just need to fly it yeah we'll spend some

[01:16:37] Time on the engine make sure it's good to go and then fly that thing that new carbs now i got a drop of gas through it yet so time to change fix that yep i think we'll pull the engine put one of those

[01:16:47] Rings in it too oh good idea very good idea so things to do different next year for me

[01:16:58] Stay in the building oh yeah as far as the yeah for sure yeah because you can stay at the hotel that is connected to the glass city center and next year that's yeah for sure yeah even if it's a

[01:17:11] Few bucks more it's worth it to me yeah because that was a 15 minute drive that we had to make

[01:17:15] Back and forth a few times i don't know if it was that long but still it would be super super convenient to just be staying right there where the show is even if it was 10 minutes each way

[01:17:23] That's an hour going because we made the trip three times yeah so traditional pool yeah i got about the yeah we won't talk about that okay anyway but anyway yeah so we'll do that differently

[01:17:35] Probably but anything else i mean i want to stay taking a trailer was a good idea yeah and that was getting the tables getting getting more tables than you think you need we didn't do that right but for next time if we're selling and we're if we're in sell mode next year mental note more tables than we think we need maybe take a table or two with us to yeah but behind or whatever that's really all i would i think that's all i would change i wonder if we can request to be in the same place

[01:18:06] We certainly can it was on the form and i think we want to be in the same spot i really like that spot

[01:18:10] Yeah it's a good spot i liked it there's a lot of room between us and the people behind us

[01:18:13] Which i noticed some of those were closer it may not have gotten as much traffic maybe as some of the other spots like some of the more centrally located tables seem like they had like if you were at the end on the inside it seemed like people were it loop around get a lot more traffic but i'm okay with where i'm i really like that yeah i'm happy with where you are yeah i'd like

[01:18:34] To do the same thing next year yep and then next year i also want to make sure i sit down for the whole auction because i missed a couple planes i probably would have come home with so this is a bad thing how well because one of them was a glider like it was a fully put together glider not powered glider but it was a tow glider had servos i don't remember what it was though it was they said what it was some it doesn't matter what it was ended up selling i think for like two

[01:19:03] Dollars what did he let it sell for that really yeah well yeah you probably nobody wanted

[01:19:10] Gliders definitely nobody wanted gliders there come home with that yeah and i gave mine away

[01:19:14] You did that kid looked really got a couple kids yeah he looked really happy though so anyway and then the guy that bought your electric trainer him and his daughters that was awesome that i yeah i i

[01:19:28] Wish i would have thought to tell him here's my card thing email me pictures and stuff i want to see you guys do it i did not even think to do that until it was too late well it's outside your comfort zone well it definitely was but i would have done that though yeah and i sold my helicopter that

[01:19:43] Went with you to iraq oh that's right for ten dollars to a couple kids let me tell you that

[01:19:48] Thing has some hours on it yeah it does i flew the blade cx yeah blade cx not a cx2 no just the

[01:19:54] Original one yeah original cx so these kids were pretty darn happy yeah so they got it made me happy too and i made sure to tell them that it had been overseas yeah it was as many hours on it in the nasty sandy conditions of that stuff just does not blow off you have to wipe it off imagine

[01:20:11] Breathing it i would say your lungs have got to be jacked yeah so anyway yeah all right i was excited to see those girls get those trainers yeah the guy get the trainers to teach those girls that's i think

[01:20:22] That's awesome that's that's what it's about they'll get more use out of it than i would so i'm glad to see it go to somebody that will hopefully use it a lot yep and he didn't even know it came with all the extra parts this is the electric one that i was planning on keeping for myself and at the last minute i thought what i'm going to get rid of it or at least take it to have the option of getting rid of it so i took the airplane took the arf box it had everything except like i said i think horizontal stab was the only thing that wasn't in it like that yeah and he wanted the fully put together airplane that was sitting on top of the table i'm like that's fine it also comes with all

[01:20:55] These parts and he was extremely happy because he said they might need them yeah i hope they don't i hope

[01:21:00] They don't but yeah they have them if they do and the fact that he's going to teach his daughters to fly i think is awesome good amazing for him yep anything else or can we it's been a long one no i think we've talked enough i think we've rambled i'm excited for toledo i can't i simply cannot be here before it put into words how much i'm looking forward to that so it's just a nice trip it's a long trip that's the only part i'm not looking forward to well the part about it that really stinks is it'll be the coming home because at least we'll have a date within within a week

[01:21:33] Then i then i'm gone for i see i forget about that yeah oh well all right until next time i am ron i'm tom and i'm dave good night good night
