[00:00:00] Imagine it hello everyone welcome to the rc plane lab podcast i'm ron i'm tom and i'm dave and i'm reggie we got two ands but the most important one is the second name that was said thanks welcome back hey thank you very much been gone a bit in a few months of silence yes i was gonna say the
[00:00:31] The second round draft whatever but i don't really know about sports oh come on now we're all the a team here i meant me too don't worry dave i was including myself yeah i think dave i think he
[00:00:44] Just i think he just pooh-poohed on all the effort you guys put in on while i was gone it's so nice to have you back so i don't have to do anything wow i mean that i don't know if that hurts or not but welcome back tommy thank you very much yeah it was a long five and a half months good to be home took a nice little vacation when we got back or when i got back from the deployment so that was nice to catch up with the wife and all that before i got back
[00:01:11] Which i go back to work next week so you had to satiate her before you could come play with us
[00:01:16] So of course understood isn't that how it's supposed to work yeah no yeah you should always take care of
[00:01:22] Your spouse first well yes we should but you should always take care of us first oh i see no i don't think laurie agrees i know i'm sure she doesn't i'm sure crystal wouldn't either no i said i should take care of my wife first you should but when he comes back it should be which we still need to do the dinner and stuff when you come home too we haven't done that yet okay you're not officially
[00:01:45] Back yet till the dinner oh i i see okay yeah we'll do a dinner we'll figure it out i go back to work friday this coming friday which is when this comes out post yeah it'll be yeah the day this airs i will be at work unfortunately you have to go back on a friday i know and guess what it's a drill
[00:02:03] Weekend well isn't that awesome no that's terrible it's actually kind of funny we had somebody after you left sent an email in and asked whether you were going and what happened and said is is tommy going to prison wow well in a sense yes and i responded back no he's being deployed blah blah blah but let's be honest if you were going to prison we probably would have just said you were being
[00:02:29] Deployed anyway so i was not in prison okay i was wink there's no winking close to it it felt like prison a few times but no i was not in prison i was deployed i can say where i was now i was in qatar for almost a full five months by the time i got there and got in processed it was almost a full five months in country so hot and very humid there no flying whatsoever that would be the worst part
[00:03:01] Well funny thing like air force bases over there they they don't look too kindly on strange objects flying in the air above the base and they have a tendency to to get either shot down or knock down with some of the technology that they have so yeah there was absolutely no flying not even remote helicopters like like before yeah so so yeah it was a bit rusty when i got back and it showed when we went flying i didn't think so i felt rusty
[00:03:31] Well what do we want to talk about first what do we want to get into anything
[00:03:34] In particular that you guys have or well i'm obviously all about listening for this episode because i haven't had an opportunity to do much with you guys so oh that's not true well i mean some of the stuff that you'll probably talk about i'll chime in on but
[00:03:50] Okay well the first thing i want to talk about the day after we recorded last time dave because we recorded day earlier than normal it was wednesday night instead of a thursday night e-flight came out with a new airplane and it actually is one that i could not say no to you so they came out with a umx conscendo consendo how do you say that crescendo i think it's
[00:04:13] Conchendo but i don't i think i don't think i don't think there's an r in it c-o-n-s-c-e-n-d-o con conchendo yeah there's no r in it so it's not crescendo right well they came out with this
[00:04:26] Airplane it's a umx version right you say it yeah umx version cool it's big for umxo yeah we so we
[00:04:33] Talked about it is a glider right yeah yeah but it has ailerons and all that right but it would be
[00:04:39] By umx standards i would think big bigger yeah i mean we'll see yeah but so this was this was the this is what made me actually buy this size airplane now so i have to buy these batteries so now that i'm having the batteries for this type of airplane that opens up a whole another
[00:05:01] Ball game of it's weird how that works you won't buy an airplane because you don't have this size battery but then an airplane comes out that makes you want to buy that size battery so now that you have that size battery now you're going to buy more airplanes that uses that battery well yes that is really messed up logic how is that messed up logic it makes perfect sense to me because you still end up buying the battery that you didn't want to buy originally but there has to be that one airplane
[00:05:25] That one airplane to tip the scales on whether or not i'm gonna okay actually he never left to make
[00:05:31] That it's like he never left what's that supposed to be dave's petting the cat so i see that it's like time he never left he hasn't skipped a beat at all well it's only five and a half six
[00:05:43] Seven months whatever it's been i don't know and we're only like 20 seconds into this and he's got you already it's a couple minutes reggie oh a couple minutes okay we'll give you that come but anyway so i ordered
[5:53] UNKNOWN: that[00:05:56] And batteries that you that you weren't gonna get oddly enough i have not ordered the batteries
[00:06:00] Okay i don't know what's perfect come out so when it comes out then i'll i'll i'll buy the batteries so yeah anyway okay but then so since this happened and i got those batteries thanksgiving by the way how's everybody's thanksgiving have a good that's great yeah i had two of them actually nice
[00:06:20] So i kind of had two of them also like we went to laurie's sisters for thanksgiving on thanksgiving day and then we were out here day after thanksgiving doing airplane things and i had thanksgiving again i ate your leftovers it was leftover thanksgiving so i love thanksgiving
[00:06:37] It's my favorite meal that's the only holiday where you don't have to worry about anything except
[00:06:42] Eating pretty much yeah yeah oh and then also giving thanks right for for eating for being in such an
[00:06:48] Awesome country and not falling asleep it's staring while trying to get back home after eating well
[00:06:54] Yeah you probably shouldn't drink and eat no that was from the food food comatose what food comatose
[00:07:01] You never had that no where you just eat too much and all of a sudden you want to go to sleep
[00:07:07] Like want to go to sleep or like couldn't drive because i'm so tired no i wanted to go to sleep just
[00:07:12] Kind of one laid back and just get a little too comfortable oh that happens to me every time i have
[00:07:16] Anything to eat imagine and it's the same way before i eat all right i don't know if the food
[00:07:20] Does you beat me to it anyway ewt driving my turkey
[00:07:27] Yes the nice thing about thanksgiving is i was on facebook and saw that tower hobbies actually posted that they had blemished e-flight umx turbo timber evolutions i'd not heard of that before but they were on sale for 89.99 and i bought one of those also motion rc had that for the t45 goshawk
[00:07:51] It came in it was yellow they knocked the price down on all of them did you buy one because it was yellow it went right through it because it was so ugly yellow yeah it was basically yellow something with
[00:08:01] The tinted the phone it wasn't a pure white oh it wasn't painted yellow it was the foam was discolored
[00:08:08] Yellow i got you okay oh okay well so there was actually a note because i don't know what to expect with it's supposed to be here today by the way so maybe maybe while we're recording you never know i'll have to see but anyway so it says on there please note these blemished umx i hold on let me start over these blemished e-flight umx turbo timber evolution models have various imperfections typically including bubbles in some of the decals okay big deal blemishes will vary from model to model but because there is no impact on the function or performance they are sold as is i mean like i get
[00:08:42] That but no impact on the function or performance and it's fine 170 to begin with no i think it's 169.99 isn't it i have no idea that's great i'm not into timbers either 159 or 169 and then i got it for 89.99 and then i got a 20 coupon after that that i wasn't a good deal i know for so i'll probably end up buying a battery through them for pretty much free nice yeah so i thought that was free batteries are
[00:09:12] Always good especially those expensive spectrum ones yeah anyway anyway so two new airplanes for ron
[00:09:21] Well no no oh there was a do tell there was a swap meet last weekend that you didn't go to because you weren't back in time yeah we were still on vacation and dave didn't go too because i was teaching class he's a bah humbug so i went with hey i'd go you would go i would go you just do the dogs really need to know that day what to do can't you just leave them for once i mean like
[00:09:44] Let's just put a bunch of less than six month old puppies in a room together and say hey
[00:09:48] Learn your lesson go have fun i'll be back yeah that's all you got to say here have some treats stay
[00:09:52] Back just stay for puppy preschool that's great yeah stay and then be gone for eight hours no
[00:10:01] Problem perfect and it wouldn't have been eight hours you could have done it in four yeah i suppose but decatur illinois had their swap meet that is one of my favorite swap meets there is
[00:10:10] Always it it is good because it's local and it's only less it's less than an hour away which is awesome
[00:10:17] Yeah 40 minute drive from my house and like i said they always have good deals there yeah and you found some more than yes no i just so i i ended up with three new airplanes and they're not all technically airplanes because there are some so that doesn't go on my completed list but anyway so i got tower hobbies a few years ago made a piper cherokee that was a 43.2 inch wingspan it's according to their website it was bind and fly and it once again the battery thing
[00:10:48] 3s 3s 2200 so how you gotta how can you not yeah it's a good looking airplane like did you notice it sitting over there i did not i did oh wait i did yeah i did i saw it okay cool well you didn't compliment me on when you saw one so i apologize you didn't well there are so many new airplanes to take in down here i may have missed that one stop that hurts no actually that's true because you've been gone a long time yeah like a lot of stuff is new yes realize was yeah yeah when i went into
[00:11:18] The other side of the basement and saw stuff stacked back there because i was like okay ron's been busy spending a little bit you act like that's a bad thing oh no i'm not saying i'm not judging yeah you are
[00:11:32] I'm not so the next thing i got the next airplane oh there's more there's more but wait there's more general hobbyists who i think made it there it's not easy to tell because there's really not a
[00:11:46] Manual in the box that kind of sucks i didn't realize that but anyway so it's a yeah it's a cessna 337 81 inch wingspan oh the old suck and blow i know and i i'd never heard of this plane until you were talking about that a long time ago so just because of what you call it made me want to buy
[00:12:05] It actually they're great twins because if you have an engine out the thrust is still along the center line so you don't have those nasty adverse yaw or not adverse yaw i guess just yawing yawing motion to the dead engine that you get with twins that are not on the center line
[00:12:28] Very very good that was explained very well but it's made run on two 40 size nitro engines which i have a lot of those so you can hook you up now i would not do that it would be electric if i can find a place to put a 65 four strokes oh man that would sound awesome i don't have those so you have one i don't you still have one out there on that not a 65 but that was a sure 52 oh yeah maybe a 52 yeah well i've got a couple of 65s we'll see we'll see i don't know okay so there's that one
[00:13:04] Yeah that's cool looking airplane i like then the other one then the other one is one that reggie decided he wanted after i bought it oh well i kind of like it too well then tommy also wants it seagull models pc9 the 120 size r 71 inch wingspan that one is made to be either nitro or electric
[00:13:23] Oh a 124 stroke would be perfect which i happen to have several of well they need homes already i have several extra of i should say of course you do remember we bought three i'm sorry talking i'm talking about the ys120s for the tri-motor yeah i bought three and then i ended up with like three more somehow by word of mouth and finding other deals when i didn't know i needed them and just
[00:13:50] Trying to mark it up my ass 120. i got a bunch of them and they all run awesome by the way i've
[00:13:54] Ran them all well good maybe we can actually build an airplane for them sometime we got one we can have
[00:14:01] It done in an evening does that actually i'm going to be honest the way we've been going on this other project we probably could have that done in the evening absolutely with two of us knocking it out oh yeah
[00:14:13] Easy this is going to be our building winter i still i know this is off topic but speaking of
[00:14:19] Building arms i still want to go to toledo and do what dave and i used to do at races buy an airplane at the swap meet put it together and fly it at the swap meet it would obviously have to be a small like electric indoor or something like that but wouldn't that be cool scary but cool i think it'd be awesome maybe anyway we'd have to plan for it well yeah take all your tools and
[00:14:43] All that stuff but it's like an indoor flyer no no like a big turbine or something what the
[00:14:50] I mean i've never been how the hell would i know you're going this year though right i'm hoping to okay twin 60s yeah just slide that inside yeah no it's it's a good swap meet it'll be fun all right hopefully i get to go just wait and see my schedule looks like yeah definitely worth the
[00:15:12] Vacation if you have to take vacation to go it's definitely worth taking it because it's a
[00:15:17] That's that's a friday saturday show right so we usually leave thursday thursday yeah so yeah i've
[00:15:22] Already got my time off on that i took the thursday off then friday saturday for the show sunday coming back sunday then hooking up the trailer then hauling it down south for the eclipse and the eclipse is on monday coming back tuesday total eclipse of the heart
[00:15:40] So it's gonna be a busy week for dave yeah you'll be putting a lot of miles on the on the old bum eclipse is it a lunar eclipse or it's a total total solar eclipse oh okay might be kind of cool yeah i'm gonna go south to see it because that's where it'll be yeah i've got to go down to i don't know why would he go south if i don't know trying to escape it listen maybe there's like a a society of solar eclipse observers down there that he wants to go and spend time with i don't
[00:16:16] Know but if he's going for the eclipse why would he i mean like the way you ask is are you going to see it well what else would he do i mean like i said it's either you go to see it or you go to escape it and the escape thing is just kind of weird escape it like so you don't have to see it if
[00:16:32] It's coming right to where you are oh i saw the last one four years ago and i really need to see this
[00:16:39] One okay cool just have to go down how far south are you going have to go to carbondale oh that's not so bad okay yeah that's three hours from here carbondale's not three hours how far is it carbondale
[00:16:54] I can get to carbondale probably what two two two and change yeah almost three with the trailer it'll
[00:17:02] Be closer to three that sounds like three hours seriously wow okay i go down that way every year for that river to river thing okay yeah so it's not not bad i i guess i was an easy drive yeah if you're hauling a trailer probably take a little more time anyway so dave has a lot of plans that weekend yeah so we need to like be mindful of that and don't push him into buying really really big airplanes or anything like that while he's there to try to have to drag home i believe we're
[00:17:35] Bringing a trailer yeah we gotta figure that out so i'll be hauling a trailer for a week i'll probably
[00:17:41] Have a suburban then so we'll have the suburban and probably a trailer if necessary you're getting a suburban nice what nothing it's very it's beautiful well i think it is it's an old man suburban yes but i like it 1972 and the beautiful thing about it is it has no rust on it whatsoever so i mean you've talked
[00:18:06] To the guy already so you're actually okay so it's fresh from the factory with no rust on it
[00:18:11] What's a it's so it's a southwest car they don't they don't get rust on down there not like here in
[00:18:17] The rust belt no this is terrible here yeah so but you think it'll make it back and everything though if you go by sure it will okay why wouldn't it i i saw pictures i just wasn't sure i'm kidding i'm
[00:18:28] Not gonna yeah it's an older one it's a 94 but it's a it's the old without all the electronic stuff so i can work on it if it breaks i think it was the color that made it look old yeah yeah it does
[00:18:41] It's brown isn't it no it's not brown it's like it's not burgundy what am i thinking of it's like a champagne gold color yeah with a burgundy hint or a tinge of burgundy i was checking your bottle see if it said zero sugar but apparently it does not of course it doesn't but it does not say zero i can tell that extra sugar in there it's been a long time so what color is it really it's like a
[00:19:05] Champagne gold metallic where did i get a it has like a darker champagne like it's two-tone like the running boards and the lower quarters are like a darker champagne color but i would have
[00:19:18] It's not up or down it had burgundy on it somewhere well even if it does i don't care that's fine it's your car so that'll be nice it'll be good to be able to fit airplane my big airplanes in it just cheers though i i caught that if i make fun but i can't make use of it that's exactly right
[00:19:35] Well you have your own vehicle now you don't need mine yeah but it's nice to ride together well yeah
[00:19:40] We'll just take yours that's fine anyway anyway what were we talking about we were talking
[00:19:46] About toledo and i drove us off topic by talking about buying an airplane and building it to be at toledo at toledo golly but you were talking about all the stuff you've bought recently i think
[00:19:56] You took us off topic to talk about toledo probably and i because i'm excited about it i like toledo
[00:20:01] Were you was that the last one yes that's all i bought okay no you bought all the parts and stuff too
[00:20:08] I did buy a bunch of parts and stuff too which that was a really good deal like kind of thumbing through the containers plus that starter that you got the big the heavy duty one from solo
[00:20:18] On the 1224 or whatever it is yeah so i got that and then i also got so the hanger nine covering iron not iron the covering heat gun heat gun thank you i never had one or i hadn't had one that had the diffuser on it this one came with a diffuser so it's one thing i missed about my wagner it doesn't
[00:20:37] Have that diffuser yeah i've lost mine over the years too and i miss it and now i have three of
[00:20:43] Them because for some reason i just see them cheap and buy them in case one goes out because i've had to throw one away already it like fell apart like literally like fell apart really yeah the handle separated from the top part and it just yeah yeah top flight mine did the same darn thing really yeah
[00:20:59] It just fell apart in my hand yeah yeah that's mine well that's slightly unnerving
[00:21:09] Yeah 110 volts plus whatever hot they get yeah that would that would yeah it was probably like
[00:21:16] 10 000 degrees when it fell and hit my hand yeah of course of the sun approximately the same
[00:21:22] Temperature as the surface of the sun yes that's pretty hot pretty close enjoy so my sky id unit shipped yeah i don't like i still am curious why you bought one i know you tried to explain it to me but i still don't understand why you spent the money to have one to see what
[00:21:48] It's like to know what they do and to out of curiosity out of the man yeah no honestly i could care less
[00:21:56] About the yeah the id like that's dave that pretty much that's exactly what i like i'm gonna buy this and i'm gonna spend the money and and bow to the man but i don't have to with where we fly both right so why buy one why spend the money why i put money in their pockets to see what it does and
[00:22:14] Into whose pockets by the way whoever's manufacturing it whoever is the one that made it so i really don't care about buying something from them okay i mean it's not like it's a dot dove business doing it
[00:22:26] Yeah i'm sure i got the furry little fingers in there i was gonna say i'm sure there's
[00:22:32] A pocket getting lined somewhere i don't know that so you can't say that so anyway the reason i bought it was just to know what it does to have it and i'm curious to see the extras that were added to it
[00:22:43] Whatever they're sheep sorry no i think it'll be it'll be curious to see what they're capable of but i am not buying one because i don't need to no because i did well even if you didn't i wouldn't it was if it was the
[00:23:01] Full hundred dollars i probably would not have but they had the special going on and i think it's over now you could early order pre-order whatever for like 70 bucks so i mean like i said it if it does the gps and stuff like i think it's going to to give speed and all that kind of stuff i could and you can put it in any airplane easily yeah then i get that for the price i think just for that feature alone is a no-brainer so it's but yes whatever else with we have that free
[00:23:32] Gps that we got last year at toledo thanks to dave and the crew can't remember name just say dave yeah that pretty much covers it in toledo doesn't it but anyway yeah they we still need to play
[00:23:45] With that by the way we did a little bit but you kept it when you were gone so i didn't have it
[00:23:51] All summer what's in the car all you had to do is go get it go break in just tell laurie hey open the car for a few minutes i need to get what i know it was in the car by the way i don't know okay
[00:24:00] God details i don't know what you keep in your car versus what you keep in your not car everything and nothing gotcha wow wow so yes that is on its way to me and they also have the updates for the ix-14 ix-12 and the ix-20 and the nx-22 i think yeah so i got the notification for that it's like how do i get this i have a dx series i have a gen 1 dx4 why why what because that's what i had you had
[00:24:33] A gen 1 dx4 that was my first my first spectrum transmitter i thought you said it was a dx8 my first one super good right yep oh that's right yeah i don't have that name is that is that update easy to get to so no i mean yeah no it really is i it took me longer than it should have because i'm a dumb dumb so no no you're not i appreciate that so when you go to your google play store and you search
[00:25:04] For the app on your transmitter to update it okay it just gave me the option to uninstall or open i was expecting it to say update so of course then i shut it off restarted it updated or not updated but hoping that it would update to get like the new information through from the google play store because i was expecting it to say update which it still just said open when i went through and searched for it again so i hit the open button and after you open it and it shows all the information on the app when it said open i thought it was going to actually open the app oh i said which it didn't
[00:25:38] Yeah that would it confused me a bit yeah so intuitively speaking open means open the app right yeah so i had to hit open in order for it to say update update okay and then after i hit the update it went through and
[00:25:50] Did its whole thing and you did that from the transmitter right yeah yeah okay all right well i asked because i'm gonna have to do your 12 that also because i'm sure there's other updates i've missed in the last six months i don't think so actually the last 12 months i should say because i updated it in
[00:26:07] A while maybe i haven't done the 12 yet i just did the 20 so i didn't want to wait to do the 12. but you don't use it anymore well i guess it'll work without the update but might as well put it on there anyway i've used it your ix12 why i use it for the buddy box stuff oh well that makes sense
[00:26:29] Did that with piper a couple times yeah so what does the update give you then well i haven't seen anything different yet because i don't have the module oh it's okay so the update is for the sky id yeah
[00:26:42] Okay okay that way it can read all the gps stuff and i gotcha hopefully it'll give speed and all that
[00:26:47] Too but once again we'll see i didn't know it did that yeah i haven't read anything about it i thought it was solely for oh no tracking and altitude and all that gotcha no if it was just it's a gps module
[00:26:59] Also it has that built into it and it connects through i think to get all that information brother knows where you're at to get all that information i'm rolling my eyes to get all that information to your transmitter and i think it hooks up to the s bus or something on the receiver and then transmits all that back hmm yeah i'm still not buying one if you just hook it up to power then all it does is transmit like for the free of stuff or not free stuff for the id stuff for the faa stuff so they can know what you're doing yes okay within 2 000 feet that's like all the farther you get so i wonder
[00:27:34] How many tickets the faa is going to write people for people who have a sky id that goes above 400
[00:27:39] Zero we'll see i don't fly about 400 feet that's right it's 399.999 and actually depending the over to eli a couple times this year when they had events they were cleared to 1200 i think the jet meet and the yes they do that what's it called jet and glider but we regularly i shouldn't say that we don't yeah negative we don't fly over 400 feet never actually
[00:28:11] I don't think i like i really don't think i do really well with your foamies you probably don't because that's really kind of all you've been flying it's been too easy they have been easier yeah
[00:28:22] So we did that with the drone when we borrowed that to find the airplane and it went up to 389 feet or whatever and that's where it stopped it wouldn't go it wouldn't go any higher and how did that look by the way what well it's a small drone so it was a dot pretty small yeah did i know about this for what yeah it's when we use the drone to go find my tundra tundra grand tundra oh i wasn't out there for that but yeah i remember you saying it yeah yeah we so when we after we found the tundra we
[00:28:54] Were playing around with the drone and yep it went up to like 389 feet actually it was in metric i had to convert it and it was it was like 389 feet or something like that yeah and that makes sense
[00:29:04] I mean i did the same with that little drone i have went up to 400 feet and sure enough
[00:29:10] It's small i just have this uncontrollable urge to chime in on this for some reason yeah it's just like please do i mean that's why we invited you to the podcast i appreciate that yeah you're gonna talk right talk yeah once you guys eventually slow down a little bit oh sorry okay okay ready okay everybody hold on the fms fox glider that's been up to about 1400 feet and you can still see it pretty well but that's a glider it's a much bigger exactly exactly but being over 400 feet it's not not unusual for you so what's your contact yeah what's your contact
[00:29:43] Address what's your email where do you live it's reggie john doe reggie john reggie jonathan for anybody that is going to try to look that up yeah i mean let's get real i i can't do a loop with a dualist probably in less than 600 feet i mean yeah that thing eats up a lot of sky man and to limit us to four i'm sorry we're getting off topic well we don't have a topic so that's okay yeah to limit us to 400 feet outside of events where they have special certs for that i it's silly i think
[00:30:21] Yeah i don't especially in an area where there is uncontrolled airspace all around you
[00:30:27] Well see now i want the sky id thing so i can see exactly how high because the few times i've flown 400 feet seemed to be high enough when i had the telemetry received most motion receivers are already
[00:30:37] Telling you the telemetry in them as far as how high you're well not all of them only the ones with
[00:30:41] Variometers yeah i think most of them were already no no no just the ones with variometers to my knowledge yeah the ones that end with the t well even all of those i don't think all of those some
[00:30:53] Of the older ones don't have variometers i say the newer stuff yeah you're probably right i think the newer stuff with t's will have with telemetry will have it but well some of the older like i have a lot of older receivers and yeah me too i had to go buy a receiver to get a variometer to put it in my glider
[00:31:09] Wow me too actually so anyway yeah i think i only have four or five of them that have it yeah i don't
[00:31:17] Fly a lot of foamies like so i go out and i fly i try to fly the bigger airplanes which i'm telling you man it's easy to get above 400 feet yeah if you're not careful you're you're up there yeah even with the big cubs i feel like when we were doing our trying to do the formation stuff i felt like we were knocking on the door at least of that i don't ever think we exceeded it
[00:31:39] But i know we were pushing it yeah yeah i don't think so either because that i mean i don't know we'll have to do some testing when we get it just to find out for sure yeah because i would be i would
[00:31:49] Be curious yeah yeah i i fully expect that when i start flying the vomana with the variometer in it i will regularly exceed 400 feet at events i can see when i flew what do you you don't think i will at events yeah yeah at events where you have special certifications that allow you to go above 400 feet yeah i will regularly up go above 400 feet at events where they have those but not at our field
[00:32:19] Ah oh yeah i gotcha wink wink oh god reggie you are special that's your sugar talking ron calm down
[00:32:29] But anyway yeah i would be interested to see yes most of your foam is your like your the air tractor and planes like that yeah you you won't be able to see it above 400 feet but right but i feel like some of these bigger airplanes that we have the jet that you're putting together
[00:32:46] I feel like with that the glider last time i was out there though i don't know what that one's called it threw me off but it's got a telemetry receiver in it the six meter or jesus the oh shucks
[00:32:59] The two meter the six foot one the one i got in toledo what is it oh hg me2 that's it whatever it
[00:33:10] Is that's a wonderful name it's so hard to forget it's a gray glider it is but like i was paying attention with that one because it did have the the altitude on it no that's that's a reggie thing yes it is even in non-gliders but anyway no so that had it in it and i was never really up that high i mean 400 feet with that one still looked pretty high oh okay maybe i don't know but remember reggie flies three miles away and two miles high thank you for noticing he likes to see a dot and then
[00:33:42] Try and figure out if it's coming towards him or going i don't lose orientation very much not like
[00:33:46] That very much very much depending on the color of the sky not like ever but very much sometimes it
[00:33:54] Happens but the color of the sky i'm glad to have you back oh gosh which speaking of color of the sky and orientation and whatnot you reggie just you just made an airplane right i did how'd that go nice
[00:34:10] Segue nice segue thank you yeah for anybody that follows us on discord are probably going to be familiar with this airplane because he posted a lot of pictures of it which is good because it's
[00:34:19] Good to have before pictures because they're helpful reference putting it back together
[00:34:26] I'm sorry okay it was not that bad she flew great everything was awesome it was the landing
[00:34:32] Which actually was a good landing it's always landing landing is usually when they get messed up
[00:34:37] Okay folks this is where i chime in completely that should kill all your mics but this is what happened i landed she was rolling everything was great but something i think with the insert screw for the axle was backed up enough to where the axle pulled out wheel came off strut dug in ground folded right retract on it i hate when it pulls out i thought you said you hit a
[00:34:58] That didn't hit anything well you said you hit a divot yesterday
[00:35:02] If it was a divot it left a divot it definitely left he did say that where were you flying
[00:35:09] Flying over the church over there on so you landed on the parking lot or in the grass i was in the grass okay so yeah he probably had a clump of grass or a divot it was just enough to pull out
[00:35:18] The the axle and sure enough she dug in did it pull it out or did it just twist it it pulled it out the wheel pulled out oh wow oh the axle damn i mean dang the the retract stayed in but it just folded forward broke the wood in the front god it's an easy fix oh yeah who's gonna fix that i'm
[00:35:38] Fixing it are you really yeah i'm actually fixing it good for you awesome so well we love that when he got here today that he's gonna have another project for me but apparently we were wrong no no
[00:35:46] I told dave i if i didn't think i could fix it probably have has enough projects of his own and
[00:35:51] Daniel's so he doesn't need any other ones well he already has enough of reggie's too he's only got
[00:35:55] One of mine oh and it's it's a project really do tell it's the cockpit kit for the hangar 9 180 150 150 b51 and it's going to require completely removing all your servos and relocating them oh dear and vacuum form and there's a ton of work you might want to think about getting a mortgage
[00:36:19] Oh yes there it is cha-ching i got you not worried not too worried you look a little worried
[00:36:28] Just a little bit pricing yet i didn't think it was that i didn't think it was that bad until i
[00:36:33] Read the directions and it said you had to relocate the servos it's like what yeah you charge by the
[00:36:39] Hour right reggie you may have to not buy an airplane for a week or two that's possible which by the way speaking of buying airplanes and reggie he owes us a jet
[00:36:50] Sorry dave i can't buy that jet now thank you appreciate you for stepping in the way you did
[00:36:54] When i say owes us a jet i mean he owes us the purchase of a jet he needs to buy a jet oh i know
[00:37:03] But i mean oh dave just canceled that i'm sorry thanks dave reggie has a way of making promises no no no
[00:37:10] No no and then backing no no you did make a promise it was a promise yes i said i would try no no no not you said a year i will give him no no he does not have a year he has about six months
[00:37:20] Yeah because it was the fly at the jet meet when we went in 22 it was the both of us and this is the deal we made each other yes the act we made the promises that were made that was one year so yeah us yes we'll have a jet and we'll fly it at the jet the jet meet in two years i am not going to
[00:37:40] Be able to make that in time you've had a year you've had a year and a half i had to buy a suburban
[00:37:45] You had to buy a you bought how many other airplanes also in that time they were small things they add up reggie okay and i still gotta buy a trailer yet you don't have to buy a trailer you have a suburban it'll fit in the suburban jet will easily fit in your suburban
[00:38:02] You have no excuse i mean like yeah let me just say this if you don't find a way to make this happen you will never hear the end of it oh i won't from ron especially and probably me yeah even though i have no scam game i am hearing it now yeah but i mean there's a chance
[00:38:21] We could back off if you like bought one but exactly and you need to order it now anyway because you
[00:38:27] Don't know when it's going to be exactly say you put your name in now it might be a year
[00:38:31] Before you get it might be yeah so you need to get on the ball reggie otherwise you will never it is not going to fly by the jet meet why why it won't be we have well we haven't talked about it yet but
[00:38:44] We will in a minute yeah literally a day and a half and it's almost done it's almost ready
[00:38:51] So nothing i would even be interested in it if it wasn't that god-awful orange and blue
[00:38:55] Well you can recover it i like the orange and blue i mean like i'm not a huge fan of that particular jet but but it looks good in those colors i think especially in the sun of course i like orange
[00:39:06] Yeah i know i'm more of a red guy but red silver on me and white i know you're right you're not wrong
[00:39:14] I know you're right you're correct moving on moving we then moved on yes reggie is anxious for us to
[00:39:22] Move on move on thank you and not beat him up about the jet anymore even though he made us a promise
[00:39:26] You mean the lack of the jet well that yeah there's still time he could pull it off i don't i don't think so now you could by the way if he sold some stuff
[00:39:37] And saved his money yeah he could make it happen what i was going to say though is he could just go
[00:39:43] Buy like a used boomerang or something like that that you see listed every now and then for a couple
[00:39:47] Grand that's exactly right the the promise did not specify what type of jet no just a jet just a
[00:39:54] Turbine when we originally made the promise to each other this jet was not out yet the one i had was not even out so i didn't know anything about it yep you notice dave there's everything with the
[00:40:05] Slap of the hand how they just coordinate back and forth like that i don't understand you made the
[00:40:10] Promise see even dave remembers dave wasn't even there i wasn't there either but i remember we've talked about it enough yeah okay why are you talking to the side of the microphone i have no idea big difference so anyway it doesn't have to be a four thousand or plus dollar jet it could be a two thousand it could be a like if you can find a deal for a thousand it can be as long as it is a
[00:40:34] Turbine it just has to be a turbine powered model yes ladies and gentlemen not an electric here today
[00:40:39] I see exactly why i'm here today why you two need to brush up on beating up on reggie today oh i don't
[00:40:45] Think we need to brush up at all i think we've managed to you've been pretty good you've been to fit right back in i don't i don't think we need practice at all no really good so we did not invite you here for that we invited you here because you're integral member of the show thank you i'll
[00:41:03] Watch what you say don't no not that too early that's that's too much okay all right he gives us lots to talk about the comic relief is good yes i like that -huh poor reggie so anyway moving on
[00:41:16] Since we've talked about reggie's crash and you mentioned and we talked about reggie's lack of a jet
[00:41:22] Lack of a jet and then and how much he makes promises and breaks them this is the reggie half hour
[00:41:29] Okay moving on from reggie well not yet we were supposed to record at noon today remember like as per
[00:41:34] Reggie as per reggie's request that was the time he gave and so we said fine noon sounds good and then i got a call from reggie at 11 45 saying hey i'll be here at 12 45 moving wash and dryer for a
[00:41:48] Person who has breast cancer no that's fine so there you have it that's fine yeah that's a good thing to
[00:41:54] Do for people i'm just pointing out my time frame and you were actually early at throwing a knife like
[00:41:59] Once he said 12 45 he actually showed up at 11 or 12 35 so he was like 10 minutes early so that you
[00:42:06] Know there's credit 10 minutes early or 35 minutes late however you want to look right right i still
[00:42:12] Have the trailer attached to this back of suburban oh do you really yeah i didn't have time to take back so i just came straight here what trailer a little cart trailers for the hauling the washer and
[00:42:21] Dryer a good buddy of mine oh like a utility trailer yeah gotcha all right now i'm finished with reggie
[00:42:28] What do you want to talk about well you mentioned the jet do you want to talk about your we've started putting it together it's almost finished it is like i mean it's really it's really close i i'm you've got about eight hours worth of wiring to do it's conservative honestly the hard part is cable
[00:42:46] Management yeah turbine like i just i've got to figure out the plumbing and stuff for that but other than that i mean like i feel like the hard part wiring wise is finished i mean everything's mounted
[00:43:00] Everything's hooked up that is ready to be hooked up yeah hard part yes but the most time consuming part i feel like is yet to come with it like dave said cable management and getting everything nice and organized and oh you act like i care if it's nice and organized so long as it doesn't melt yeah yeah
[00:43:18] I mean like there's nothing around the turbine that's all up in the front and it looks yeah
[00:43:23] But you're enough you're not going to be happy with a rat's nest of wiring in the nose of that
[00:43:28] Thing i think you underestimate how much i just am happy with what i have we'll see i mean i don't think it looks bad right now well no i didn't have everything in it yet pretty much everything up front is in it the only thing i have to add is the wires for the wings well
[00:43:45] There's a fuel pump that still needs to go in there right there's a there's an air tank and all the plumbing that has to go with that there's the i'm talking about i mean go ahead i was gonna
[00:43:55] Say you're right but i was talking about just the electrical stuff that's in there now oh like i wasn't i'm not even considering all the turbine stuff yet oh okay because that i have no clue what to do
[00:44:07] That manual is thick it's thick and like from what i read last night as far as the physical like layout and how to mount it it's it's weak it's not very detailed there's a mount thusly yeah there's there's like a lot of information in there on the programming and how to start it and all that kind of stuff but as far as like the physical mounting of it and how you route this now it's lacking honestly well and the nice thing is though that it looks like a
[00:44:37] Hand-drawn sketch on how to wire everything like summit but if you try and read all the text it's so low resolution you can't even read what it says yeah so there's going to be a little bit of research going into that and unfortunately i think you're probably right about eight hours on
[00:44:57] But other than that it's so close it's so it's so close did you want to talk about the quality or do you want to save that there were some issues i can let you talk about it not too much in depth if you don't want to yeah hold judgment until you're done yeah i mean it's an arf overall yeah overall it's
[00:45:16] An arf and it it's average can i just say average there's some things that we had to re or we had to address and you can talk about that specifically the flaps right and i and i i haven't done any research at all you apparently said you read something somewhere that this was potentially an issue on one batch or another or something yeah but the flaps appear to have been obviously they were drilled for the hinges in a jig of some kind or a fixture and i don't think they
[00:45:49] Had the flaps lined up correctly in the fixture because i had to re-drill the holes to get everything to line up correctly and i don't feel like you should have to do that on an arf of that price tag caliber and price tag yes yeah but aside from issues like and unfortunately that sort of set the tone for the rest of the build because that was step one i know your servo plates don't match up either and the servo plates yeah they they don't line up perfectly in the pockets the recesses of the
[00:46:23] Wing like so the hatches in the wing or the aileron servo mounts in the flat they don't they don't fill the holes exactly so you can see wood in the gap around and just things like that you would not expect that and and the egregious gap between the nose and the midsection of the fuselage i mean that's the only one that really bothers me and it really bothers you because it's so noticeable because the gap is so like you could throw a dead cat in that gap it's huge a small one
[00:46:57] Perhaps it's a big gap i mean especially there at the top and i mean so the gap could be fixed with covering yeah but you would see that but yes don't think you should have to do that right i mean we looked at different ways of fixing it and a little like caulk well i mean maybe but unfortunately like anything that we would have done to shorten it to bring it closer would not have worked because there is no room in the hatch where the canopy to go or canopy yeah so but just
[00:47:28] A little that spans the two there are more of those sort of issues with this arf than i would be comfortable with paying what you paid for it so see i'm still not there because i look at everything
[00:47:39] That came with it and i'm i don't think it's overpriced for what it is i mean look at the finished canopy look at all the i mean look at the size of the plane look at what you get with it it's
[00:47:50] A nice hardware kit it is it's that's everything that definitely one plus is i i'm a fan of the
[00:47:56] Hardware they give you it's good quality beefy hardware it came with the wheels and the retracts and the brakes and extra tires which i thought was funny extra mains so as long as you can live with yugo size panel gaps you're getting there's only one i mean now i feel like i'm defending it more than i should be but it's it's not just the gap on that that irked me but the fact that we couldn't even get the plates on the inside to line up without drilling them out yeah majorly yeah
[00:48:28] Oversizing seriously had to oversize the holes to get those plates to fit yeah or to get the screws
[00:48:33] Go and then the thumbscrew business with the fuel tank tray remember that those holes didn't line up so you had to oversize those those also just a lot of issues like that like if we we should
[00:48:44] Probably write down everything we found and well we're going to have the build log online that i haven't put up yet but by the time this comes out there should be something yeah up from where we
[00:48:54] Are but but otherwise it's not related but yeah like from 15 20 100 feet away it looks
[00:49:02] Really good that bad no it's not that bad you're exaggerating i hope i am i'm happy with it hey i've got my glasses off and it looks fine i was thinking the same thing like i can't see too far away but i
[00:49:14] Still i can see it in the reflection of the tv here behind me yeah it looks great no the but you're right though that the cockpit is very well done the pilots look good the the instrument panels look really good i was very impressed with those it's just it looks like some areas of the airplane they focused on and some of the areas of the airplane they're like ah this is close enough
[00:49:34] The fit and finish could have been a little bit better yeah i'll give it to you yep but but it's
[00:49:40] Almost ready i mean like it will we we've spent between the two of us what would you say hours wise
[00:49:46] Well you six ish total god no are you serious you came out yesterday i guess it's more than that you came out yesterday 8 30 and we worked on it we had lunch break we had dinner break but you left around nine at night yeah so that's 12 and a half hours i did some probably an hour and a half on it this morning okay before you came out and you got five plus another hour plus another couple hours
[00:50:09] Today so far so 30 ish hours so far between the two it was probably that's not bad actually for for an airplane of this complexity and not knowing what we're doing and not knowing what we're doing
[00:50:20] Like if we had to do it again it would not be as bad because we wouldn't have to spend the time
[00:50:26] Well and i also feel like step one right out of the gate we had to we probably spent an hour and a half or more just trying to figure out what we were going to do about the flaps it was more than that
[00:50:36] Because i looked at my i'm trying to think i looked at my watch at 10 30 it's 10 45 and we had not done anything yeah i mean not a hole had been drilled yet nothing it was still just reading through things and trying to figure out yeah what to do and to be fair to be fair to be fair
[00:50:56] Probably worried too much or more than we needed to on the flaps because they turned out i'm like i'm really happy how they turned out and the fix was really yep minimal i just yeah the holes a little
[00:51:06] Bit i for the hinges yes so i and that's kind of why i didn't start before you got back either i knew you wanted to help with it but i did get stuff out and i saw that as my first step literally step one and i'm like no i'd like i i can't i i'm gonna wait and get input it did get better at least from
[00:51:29] There like there were hiccups here and there but like that didn't actually that's not how the
[00:51:35] Whole build went no there were only a couple big ones and we've talked about them and other than that i've been pleasantly surprised not surprised but pleased well and some things that we thought
[00:51:48] Or that i thought would take longer didn't take long at all like like the thrust tube yeah it didn't take long at all never done one before because when when we eyeballed it has to fit it's a very snug fit through the tail of the airplane and when you look at it it's like man there's no way this thing is going to fit through there but it popped right through this is bigger than the fair than the
[00:52:10] The the cutout yeah than the fuselage but no you're right i mean so yeah but it was also
[00:52:18] Because the instruction said something about using a flat metal ruler or something to try and get it through but what you did was actually pretty smart and it was just the top yeah well i mean i'll give props where it's due and that one was really good we just used the top of header card is what they're yeah header card off of it doesn't even matter hardware or whatever and you wrap that around and it reached around over half of the the exhaust tube thing whatever you call it thrust tube the thrust tube i should remember that
[00:52:50] But anyway so by wrapping that around that you kind of were able to use that as a funnel to get it in you guys are so stupid but anyway you were able to use that as kind of a funnel to get that through the hole like how nobody disagreed with you i know oh i don't even know what i said anymore thrust tube got me so far off why is everybody
[00:53:15] Like jousting when they hear that because it's funny thrust tube those are two words i just i like the two words and especially together so anyway yes i wrapped a header card around the thrust tube and used that as a guide if you will to guide the thrust tube through the hole our first pg-13 cast so yeah some things didn't take as long as i was expecting them to so yeah we're really close i'd say we're within probably
[00:53:50] Realistically 12 to 15 hours worth if you take the turbine out of it we're probably an hour and
[00:53:55] A half away from being done honestly yeah i would agree so reggie there's no reason why you can't have one ready oh exactly we'll even charge you to put it together yeah by the time we're done with this we'll be experts oh people will pay us to put these things together oh reggie well so there's no reason other than other than the money that you can't have one ready by the jet meet
[00:54:28] Into the mic i thought we moved away from reggie no we're back no we're back i see that we did for a little while and the reason we're not beating dave up is because dave didn't make a promise he hasn't delivered on yet it's been pretty quiet so he's a man of his work i'm watching i'm learning nice i like that jab as everyone's talking yeah so what's next i i'm like i really thought we'd be running this jet today but sadly no because somebody didn't buy the battery they
[00:55:01] Really looking at you really yeah actually you probably have the battery i need say what i have it why would i have one that would work it's just a life something or another i don't remember what it
[00:55:11] Well i have yeah what size i don't know i'd have to look it up why does it have to be a life battery
[00:55:16] It could probably run off of just an mh no it could probably run off of a lipo just for testing but they recommend the life battery i think it's life bad i gotta look no fromco battery probably no no fromicos are live well it could be but it's got 5200 you need it like i said i don't know i have
[00:55:35] To look it up but anyway we won't be running the jet today no and that makes me sad i wouldn't be ready
[00:55:41] Anyway like mentally ready there are a lot of leaves that need blown there's right yeah there's there's a lot that i want to look at and double triple quadruple check before it gets started up
[00:55:53] Okay sissy pretty much you've been building a plane i have i'm finally building the plane i got from brian like three years ago or something like that chip hide double vision a big biplane yeah i know sorry ron hates them no yes no yes too many wings too many wings but yeah it really good quality kit compared to compared to the one we're putting together now it's actually i've not had to
[00:56:23] Rework anything that's nice it literally bolts together it does yeah so so i'm going to try something new for me anyway on this pipeline a while back i came across my facebook feed i think pro modeler servos i don't know if any of you guys have heard of them but heard of them so i did some reading about them and the guy that john the guy that produces them he actually produces a lot of stuff for the military which of course gets my attention so the stuff that he makes meets
[00:56:55] Mill standards and things like that so i was anxious to try some of his servos and they're very competitively priced so for example i bought a bunch of 270s these are these are an iron core a pull regular dc type motor type they're not a brushless servo they are digitals but they it produces 270 ounces of torque at 8.4 so i'm not going to be running it that high i'm going to run it probably at whatever lipo 7.4 or 7.2 whatever those are lipos 7.4 right when they're fully charged
[00:57:33] They're 8.4 oh okay well then that's when i guess i'll be putting through them so that a lot of torque and they're they're all aluminum well the mid cases are aluminum but the the top of the case is like a a nice resin reinforced resin plastic and then what he does he takes brass inserts and embeds them into the case where the servo shaft or the gear shafts go so they don't waller out like they do in a plastic case so you get a lot longer life out of them and he does a lot of other things
[00:58:04] With these servos to get long life out of them and a lot of torque and the thing that really sold me on these was the he kind of guarantees that these are like the best centering servos that money can buy and that's a in my opinion that's a bold statement because there's some really good quality servos out there right so i took the plunge and i ordered eight of them or whatever it takes for this biplane so i'm anxious to try and they should be here today i'm anxious to try them out very nice yeah something different for me like normally i'm like a spectrum guy especially on a brand
[00:58:36] New build or or high-tech at a minimum but these are less than spectrum servos and less than high-tech servos so money-wise if you compare servo to servo they're significantly less money i remember when
[00:58:50] We tried to cheap out too and got the amazon servos that didn't work out well these are not amazon
[00:58:56] Servos these are he like now i get it this guy johnny he stands by him and yeah so i'm we'll see something so try something new and if they work out then maybe i'll equip all my future models with pro modeler servos mm-hmm like what models what do you got what are you buying well eventually i mean you and i both know what i'd like to eventually buy i know but put it out
[00:59:18] There so i can go back to this and call you a reggie if you don't i'm not saying i'm going to buy it
[00:59:23] I'm just saying i would like to buy at some point in the future one of those hangar nine ov 10 broncos but that's no secret i've mentioned that on the show before they're so beautiful i mean they really are and i will say this and you can you can make fun of me if you want to i'm thinking i might want to go electric on it why would i make fun of that well because i'm such a an internal combustion guy icy geek yeah but easy use and a twin well here's why let's say you put
[00:59:54] Two da or yeah da 35s or dle 35s or whatever they make engine noises which i like but the ov 10 wasn't the reciprocating engine powered airplane it was powered by turboprops so i feel like electric makes more sense because it would sound more accurate than a pair of gases hanging i don't know yeah and i've seen both fly because we saw them both fly at null this year gosh it feels like it was last year already but and i just i like the sound of it better with electric and i'm me i'm
[01:00:27] Anti-electric but in that case i think i may want to do that i think what might change your mind is when you see the batteries you have to buy yeah i've looked at them and they they're scary both price wise and voltage wise i'm the voltage is what scares me having that kind of voltage
[01:00:48] If i remember if you've looked at them tell me if i'm right then 12s mm-hmm so there are two success two success five thousands per motor per side so you're running four yes each time you fly it yeah
[01:01:01] Yeah yeah and that's a lot of money in batteries but and chargers if you well if you invest in one of those nice g2 smart chargers like what you have and i mean i've seen that thing in action and it's
[01:01:13] Pretty cool yeah but you'd need two yeah because it's four batteries if you want to be able to fly every 10 minutes right but it's nice though like i said with that one it's nice to be able to have or you're charging down down or down time to be so low are you saying four batteries per airplane no not per airplane that's like two per side two yes but it's actually more than four batteries by the way because those are just the motors right you still have a radio battery and your three tracks and dual set up for that so i think you're running seven batteries in that airplane yeah it's a lot of
[01:01:48] Batteries but you don't have to recharge the the plane flight batteries whatever you call them yeah it's a lot of radio batteries don't have to be recharged every time yeah especially if you go
[01:01:59] With life they yeah they don't they don't have the high discharge rates that lipos do but yep yeah it's a lot would be a lot of money and batteries but a lot of weight for me it's made it just it just i don't know makes the sound more accurate it's it's a i i like the airplane i do too after seeing
[01:02:19] It fly more and more yeah it's yeah i even sent you a picture of it this summer you did no you ignored
[01:02:26] Me i did i don't know what that was because i knew what was coming it's like what the hell hey doesn't this look nice you need to buy one of these i know i know i have not made a promise though i did not say i would buy one i would like to there was no pact you are correct there was no hey in two
[01:02:45] Years we're both gonna get one of these and fly them reggie's looking at his watch can i get out of
[01:02:51] Here he's thinking by the way reggie joined eli yeah sweet so i mean like everything is in place i know except the jet except the jet i mean you got the place to fly it you got the vehicle to haul it mm-hmm you've got the experience kind of you've flown a lot of edfs probably more than ron has oh
[01:03:13] Absolutely more than i have did you fly any edfs this summer stop it this is not about me right now
[01:03:19] Well it's about you it's about you i mean like i'm trying to think i don't wasn't this like i'm pretty sure we had a conversation there was before i left that said yeah i should probably you didn't make it you didn't make any promises i'm not saying that but i'm pretty sure you said something to the the fact of yeah i should probably fly some of these edfs that i bought for the purpose to get ready for this jet that's almost ready to fly by the way yeah did you did i what flying edfs
[01:03:48] This week this summer no why lots of reasons then valid you've got time to fly one i've got the trump card my dad died oh that's true i will use that when i need to no honestly there's just a lot of stuff going on this summer that i did not fly as much as i wanted to anything let alone eds
[01:04:16] Yeah i tried to fly the f-86 last weekend that didn't work out what happened to that well last time i tried to fly it we dumped it in the ditch because of the battery yeah okay and being stupid trying to clear the grass out it sucked up some lee some leads so i replaced the leads right i put the wrong ends on so i went to put the wing on it out the field
[01:04:40] And you can't plug a mail into a mail plug a mail into a mail it doesn't work on airplanes
[01:04:46] Reggie this is the guy you got that's working on your stuff
[01:04:53] Don't look at me weekend before i left spars at home so it's okay well i've done that yeah i mean that's normal darn i've done that i didn't hear what you said good good you may have to go back and bleep good
[01:05:05] And i said it's okay dave it's okay yeah i could not believe i did that when i went to plug it in i was like what is this what idiot did this what is wrong with me yeah yeah and not only did i do it once i did it on two different leads jeez
[01:05:27] Well you probably assume okay well one that the more important one is in the fuselage so i'll put the less important one which would be the male by the way females are always more important i don't know if you do that or not what are you talking about it's a weird logic that
[01:05:44] I use in my brain don't worry about it ignore the two other connectors right next to it yeah
[01:05:51] I've made it to the field before without a transmitter so forgetting a spar yeah and that's been child's play twice on the receiver the transmitter oh really twice i've probably done it at least that many times i know i've done it once recently well when
[01:06:05] I say recently in the last couple years yeah yeah glow igniter that was another one i always used to
[01:06:11] Leave at home yeah that's why glow plane sucks yeah i've showed up with the glow igniters but not charged they were dead dead that's good that's like i've showed up with everything but the batteries wrong battery for the plane that's another one done that showed up to oh wow i went all the way
[01:06:31] To eli field without gas once i know that was you should have just asked i know there was like
[01:06:38] No anybody there's like 15 gas cans right over there it's not their fault i'm an idiot well they shouldn't have to but they would have i know they would have they're very very nice folks there seems like the one time i've been that was a hundred dollars well spent well okay well whatever
[01:06:59] You're joining again right yes okay so i have to like if i want to see you fly your jet because you
[01:07:04] Told me you're not gonna fly it here i don't jerk at this point i don't plan on it why off a grass
[01:07:09] Field why yes arthur flies his every weekend yeah but i'm not used to it yet i i mean it's going to be over with somebody that knows how to teach me to fly it i'm not saying you should maiden it off the
[01:07:28] Grass field i'm just saying eventually hopefully you'll be comfortable enough to fly it off of our
[01:07:33] Home field oh i guess yeah sure but i mean like my goal is not just to fly it there well like i'm not doing everything just to fly it you can take it to null you think you'll be ready by then i don't know it
[01:07:48] Depends how the spring goes we'll see you should put a smoke system in it you should promise
[01:07:52] No ron doesn't do that i don't promise unless i know i will do it see like i promised you the jet thing and the jet sitting over here that that i did that's like four we've gone around four times
[01:08:05] With that that's awesome well i'm just pointing out have you thought about a smoke system though i
[01:08:11] Have putting smoke in it that's all the further i got you get the smoke pump here i do you do you have
[01:08:16] A smoke pump from dave you don't remember that from toledo no he's gonna help himself to it
[01:08:24] Oh was that on the table and i said i want that you had and he oh i remember now oh and he stole it yeah is that what you're gonna say so you'd have to put another tank in it right yeah i don't know what all would go into it i'm gonna be honest a smoke system on that right now is not no i get
[01:08:39] That and the list of things for me to figure out i think that would be cool i do too and speaking of that weird how the wheels in my head turned but i was thinking back to joe and all and how cool that those 3d jets were when they were doing the spiraling thing with the smoke and stuff yeah and then i was thinking about back to like we were talking to them about that particular jet or one very similar to it and they were selling one there remember that there was one for
[01:09:11] Sale yeah that was a little different and we asked the price of it and it was he said forty five hundred
[01:09:15] Dollars absolutely a steal yeah why didn't we buy that i didn't have that much money then oh i neither did i that's that's why yeah and no way to get it home and that but that was a that was a car rebel no it wasn't a rebel wasn't a rebel i don't know it had the it had the thrust vectoring
[01:09:36] Business on it and it was ready to go like it was like bind to fly i think he even said i thought so yeah but it was definitely not at my skill level well he said though he told us he said oh anybody can fly this once he didn't i don't remember him saying once he didn't but i am but with the i think what he was getting at honestly was with the the gyros and all the stuff that's in these things they probably are relatively speaking easy to fly you would actually expect that like for an expensive
[01:10:09] Airplane i would expect it to be fairly easy to yeah because who wants to spend five grand on something that's difficult right that you don't enjoy yeah i get that so but yeah why i think i'd have to look back at pictures i don't remember what that was that was the what's that called the triangular wings delta delta wings right that's that one right yes yeah and it had i think it had
[01:10:35] Canards on it right i think so yeah i don't know the name of them but it was cool looking kind of urofired like yeah yeah very yeah very similar shape but obviously it wasn't called a urofighter because i'd probably remember that and it was definitely not painted like a urofighter but it was a nice plane yeah it's a good size too yeah and looking back though that was a heck of a
[01:10:58] Deal it was a great deal it seems like now i knew it was a great deal at the time but yeah i also knew
[01:11:06] Yeah yeah i mean by that time i had mine ordered that's true so it only took what 18 months to get it
[01:11:14] I'm teasing no i'm exaggerating seven seven yeah seven months yeah and that's out here for a while
[01:11:24] Now it's almost put together after two days hasn't sat here long three weeks because you got it yeah it was about three weeks well yeah yeah didn't i picked it up for you so that was no you didn't
[01:11:35] You picked up the turbine you didn't pick up the jet oh that's right you went with me to pick up
[01:11:40] With you this yes yes but i yeah so it hasn't been sitting that long less than a month so that's
[01:11:47] Pretty good it's probably the quickest arf that was ever put together here to be honest yep so what
[01:11:54] Else what else we got i'm that's that's me i'm done yeah i wish i had more to talk about but i've been gone a while so i look forward to doing stuff so that i can talk about it i look for joe knoll but yeah toledo though that's first i know that'll be good but is it weird that i'm looking forward to toledo almost as much as joe knoll i don't know why i love that i love that swap meet though i did too the guys that the people there are really cool and i don't know brian
[01:12:27] Says he's gonna go and have a booth this time so that'll be interesting to see what he takes that
[01:12:31] That will be cool yeah it'll be good reggie's asleep yeah all right reggie are you like how do
[01:12:39] You feel about joe knoll are you excited about it because this will be reggie's first time hold
[01:12:43] On a minute oh are you promising that you're going no i'm not promising but i should go just checking
[01:12:49] Because that's a word i'm like i use ron you ever again i'm looking forward to seeing jeffrey and the
[01:12:55] Guys again me too those are those are really great guys and matt and all this yeah matt too well i mean everybody pretty much but it was really fun hanging out with with the boys from rhode island you you would really like them actually they cut up just like us or maybe even more ruthless than us oh i
[01:13:14] Yeah well i can enjoy that with reggie there oh yeah it reminds me i gotta go buy another trailer tire
[01:13:20] Yes you do you said that last time i think he did he did yeah yeah trailer tire month yeah
[01:13:29] What are the dates on toledo april four five six six yeah which by the way if you're going to sign
[01:13:36] Up for joe knoll they have a cyber monday ish deal like that's all i know we don't know how much it's going to be but it is apparently according to joe knoll or tripletree it's a it's a discounted entry monday yep so if you buy if you want to save a little money yeah and if you're going to joe knoll so i'm buying my ticket i'm going to buy my ticket as well monday so reggie are you going to buy yours when's this monday is coming monday cyber monday which is usually the monday after thingsgiving yes i don't keep up none of that all right yeah i'll take a look at it i'll take a look
[01:14:12] At it i will take a look at it he didn't make a promise so no no i would really i think you would really dig joe knoll like if you like eaa and air venture and that sort of show with the airplanes this is like the eaa of models kind of that's better than that it's better okay because it's everything man it's like i mean 3d helicopter i mean any sort of discipline that you're into is represented at joe knoll crashing crashing is crashing intentionally float planes yeah is like
[01:14:47] I did that well i didn't really crash intentionally but the goal was to not come away with a flying airplane which you accomplished all 25 seconds it took yeah we're gonna figure out what airplanes
[01:15:00] It take just for that too yeah that's gonna make me sad no matter what it is really yeah you have
[01:15:07] Airplanes here that you're just so emotionally attached or all of your airplanes here are you just so emotionally attached to that if you didn't come home with them you'd be devastated if i crashed them it wouldn't hurt my feelings yeah but you're kind of the goal of that is to hurt my feelings go to brian's spend 50 bucks yeah i want to go with a nitro
[01:15:32] You can it's on the electric line oh yeah that's right i shot that one down yeah all right well
[01:15:40] Just a big electric then i don't mind being the target that was fun yes for 20 whatever seconds it was we should put that video on the on our website somewhere just so people know what we're talking
[01:15:56] About the fall fair so that we don't have to do it don't make promises that you can't fulfill right
[01:16:02] Exactly oh ron what you should do is that's what i meant to say ron you should put that yeah because
[01:16:09] You don't even have the video i think it's on my phone it is so yeah that's exactly right because i
[01:16:13] Was flying not for long not not very much so what we're talking about and in case anybody is not because i'm pretty sure we talked about it in the wrap-up but they have a basically a demolition derby in the air as one of their events so yeah and that's common when you go to different places
[01:16:34] Like that they have those oh really that's the first time i've ever seen that i don't know flight there but i've heard of them there oh combat's a thing even just well combat yes but like demolition
[01:16:48] Derby no this is the same thing this is just combat that's all it was well combat don't you usually i'm at a streamers this is full contact this is full contact yeah combat usually means you're pulling a streamer and you're cutting it or whatever that's the combat so basically any electric plane anything you want to fly that you don't want to bring home that you don't mind if it crashes
[01:17:09] Something for reggie that's all of them obviously no not quite not quite i could pick up a few there
[01:17:15] Is a certain amount of strategy because some planes lasted much longer than others yeah and i think cheating by just staying away well that but like airplanes that seem to float and are very very small yeah like wings flying wings you say you're flying wing there's not much to hit right and they are difficult to hit and they can it turns out a big ginormous float plane is pretty easy to hit yeah it's the blimp of the but there was no there wasn't anything bigger than that in the air at the
[01:17:52] Time so yeah but it was fun it was a real hoot hopefully we get to do that again it was a hoot and hopefully reggie and dave get to go and experience it as well dave's going i know he's
[01:18:06] Going i don't question his his stick-to-itiveness yes his trustworthiness dave usually does what he says he's gonna do not usually always you okay reggie you look like you're about to fall out of your chair no i'm okay okay all right any other promises you want to make before we get on
[01:18:29] Promise to leave here in a moment okay i promise he can keep i hope so thank you tommy
[01:18:40] Oh we're so mean to reggie i'm sorry reggie i'm sorry i i we do it because we love you yeah like in
[01:18:47] All seriousness tommy is sorry that's he you can tell by the way he's talking he's he's sorry about
[01:18:53] Me mean to you i'm gonna say he is he said tommy's sorry he knows he didn't say anything about ron is sorry no i caught that looking for the power button on your board over there hands off okay goodbye quick
[01:19:07] All right that's it for me anything else dave you said like four things anything else you want to talk about i'm enjoying my vacation
[01:19:16] Now all we got you then was that we got the big cub flown finally so oh that's right i forgot about that golly we kind of like started talking about it really reggie was here oh oh so this is the cub
[01:19:27] That daniel purchased at toledo last year the big green and white one yeah the big big ugly yep big big cub what is that 140 140. that's a big one it's bigger than anything i got how about you nope
[01:19:43] It's not the master's bigger is it really yes yeah it is like four four inches i thought the telemaster was only like 122 or something like that 144 oh dang it okay so like actually it kind of pisses me off because it's a 12 foot telemaster but it actually is like 143.5 inch wingspan so they're rounded yeah so if i ever recover it i'm adding like a couple pieces of balsa to the wingtips winglets yep yep but anyway that i took over your story you did tell us about your cub flight
[01:20:16] It's what i do went through it we've been putting this off as long as we can winter's coming sounds like you could have put it off a lot longer just saying yeah i mean look at me you can put stuff off for a long time but we got it running taxi tested without the wings it ran fine
[01:20:36] Put it out on the field put the wings on it this first time he's actually had the wings on it it was for the first flight because you can't put the wings on it at home yeah it's too big so we got it out there on the runway pointed it down the middle of the runway popped the throttle forward and well it flew like a cub yeah and that's a good thing yeah last last
[01:20:59] Episode at least that i listened to you're having some engine issues with it yeah he had to rebuild
[01:21:05] The carburetor just dried out diaphragms yep common possibly a little goo in the screens i don't i didn't look inside the carburetor that was all his job yes i like how you gave the dirty stuff to
[01:21:19] Daniel to to work on it is his plane well that's true it is his airplane and by the way probably the loudest airplane i've ever heard it's not quiet it's yeah it's probably what 185 decibels or so i'm exaggerating but it's it's really really really loud he likes loud planes yeah and and i'm okay with i'm not like i'm not like judging him but it is the loudest plane i think i've ever heard 70 cc so yeah and a just basically an open muffler basically not even a square box yeah which i'm sure there's
[01:21:57] Nothing it might even be a sound augmenter it doesn't muffle anything let's give it a nice pop at idle it's a resonator it does actually sound pretty cool at idle but once you open it up man it is like deafening and i've only heard it on video like i can imagine how loud it is like in person
[01:22:15] Yeah it's definitely not my taste but obviously based on some of the comments he's made he he likes likes it yeah okay cool yeah it took off on its own after 50 foot takeoff roll zero trim changes nice i love when that didn't even touch any of the trims i'm sure the router probably needs trimmed but yeah close enough yeah it's a cub it's a cup we just flew big loops with it everything was fine i
[01:22:45] Landed it the motor rich was a little bit rich i landed it right after one lap floated in like a cub yep leaned it out half a turn and took off again exactly the same thing just pointed direction you want to go and off it goes off it goes nice no up elevator it just lifts off when it's ready i love
[01:23:07] It when you don't have to mess with the trims on the test flight or the remaden yeah yeah it does have
[01:23:14] A severely warped aileron and i was a little concerned about that but no issues no issues
[01:23:20] Whatsoever pretty forgiving airplanes cubs yeah well and the bigger you get the more forgiving they are
[01:23:26] Exactly gave it to him he flew it around a little while and he ended up landing along with it first time he's landed that far down the runway and he dorked it a little bit
[01:23:39] Kind of like i did with the telemaster at joan all that's exactly what i was thinking but i didn't
[01:23:44] Say it yeah and it's supposed to have bungee cords or o-rings around the landing gear for functional landing gear those were fixed in place with bailing wire just just make it flyable and that's why we got it and he just never bothered to fix it which was fine but he did dork it and the wire was soft and it broke ah okay and of course when the landing gear collapsed it popped the 65 prop ouch they are the more expensive that was it for the day we could have rewrapped the landing gear
[01:24:17] And flew again if we had another prop but yeah nope what size props on that 70s from 22 or 24 by 8 i was gonna say 24 but yeah not small no it's significant yeah but it flies beautifully it'll be no problem now he's got to decide cosmetically what he's going to do with it so nice and he's not
[01:24:38] Going to he's not going to get rid of the green and white is he he bought a can of primer so i don't know oh i really like the green and white i think it's maybe he'll put it back that way just refreshed or maybe he'll just paint over the ugly black portions that's a possibility i don't know it's
[01:24:53] His plan he can do with what he wants that's true green and white is different yeah and it's not
[01:24:58] Like a little extra weight's going to hurt that thing if he just paints over it he could add 10 pounds
[01:25:02] Of that thing and he wouldn't even notice it yeah that much wing candy drop candy drop we can't afford
[01:25:09] That much candy it would take a lot of candy to fill that thing that's for sure very well i'm glad i'm
[01:25:16] Glad he finally got to fly it that's awesome yeah yeah and it's a really good flying plane yeah
[01:25:21] Paul csa always does a good job dumb question i think i know the answer to this but where is he going to store it he's got it taken apart and it's in his basement really yeah i figured he would leave it in
[01:25:32] The trailer yeah he's left it in there most of the summer except when he's working on it but he has emptied his trailer for the winter so it's as far as i know it's going to if it's not already there
[01:25:41] It'll be in his basement soon that's so sad emptying the trailer for the winter yeah but i mean it's good but it's just yeah it's a sad thing to hear i'm just glad i don't have to store it
[01:25:56] Yeah where the heck would you put it it'd have to go in the garage i've got a small electric i can't find a home for now it's just sitting on a box in the garage right now yeah what's that like i don't know yeah strange weird oh and yeah the 60 decathlon sitting on the floor in the garage and i got like two more weeks and the mustang has to go in there so
[01:26:20] Because it goes in the garage december 1st wow did you get the mustang fixed by the way yep it's fixed except for the paint on the hood it's paint i might take it out this winter and have it painted i don't know really you don't want to paint yourself you're talented just to fix the hood not the whole car it's not worth my time or money to take and buy all the supplies i need just to paint a hood yeah that's true yeah because if i was going to do a whole car that stuff is
[01:26:51] Expensive yeah but just to buy supplies for the hood yeah yeah it's not worth it i get that
[01:26:58] Okay okay well i'm done i'm done done he's like he's done a long time ago ready to be out of here why do you not enjoy it no why no i don't what is wrong we're done tell us all about your woes
