[00:00:12] Hello everyone welcome to the rc plane lab podcast i'm ron i'm tom and i'm dave tom he's back hi guys welcome back welcome back thank you the world is now perfect and complete

[00:00:24] I don't know about all that at least more stable things are back to normal for the next few weeks and then i leave again for two weeks and then that's it for the rest of the year so he says no it really is except for thanksgiving which we're going to go to my

[00:00:38] Oh but that's that's not that's no well not only that we can work around four days yeah maybe we can work around the two weeks too and just record something early might be able to yeah we'll figure that i'm up with something to talk about figure that out in

[00:00:50] Good time yeah so how have you been dave good except for trying to slice my thumb off last night

[00:00:58] Don't show me that i'm i don't oh ron just turned white as a sheet

[00:01:07] So dave has a big gash in his thumb that probably ought to have ditches at least at least a couple all right have you ever cut a cut yeah it's ever so much more painful yeah that one right there it's been cut multiple times so

[00:01:22] Well a fresh car over the weekend i had to drop the tank on the mustang because we had fuel pump issues and we're talking about your vehicle not a not a mustang correct my full size well i mean

[00:01:33] This is an airplane podcast well an airplane is a vehicle also i suppose well that's true so an

[00:01:37] Automobile yes true somehow or another i ended up cutting my thumb and it was basically glorified paper cut in fact i didn't even know i did it did you get gas in it yes you'll feel that that's awesome it stung a little bit yeah man up so yep yep it hurt for a few days yes and i do a lot of paperwork at work and yeah that was fun last night making my wife's dinner i got a brand new knife set by the way oh we don't know and i was slicing a tomato and it decided to slide

[00:02:12] Oh yeah and i cut my cut cut the cut yes but i went like 90 degrees to the original cut so it was why is ron sweating i don't do well there's a little extra protein in the like i feel i feel clammy yeah you look clammy

[00:02:30] Anyway it's not that bad it's really not that it's a plus sign i'm not looking i'm just assuming if

[00:02:36] He's 90 degrees no it's not no exactly so the original cut went this way and then still not

[00:02:41] Looking it went that way so oh what's around here i love doing this around yeah i don't that's one

[00:02:49] Thing i don't enjoy at all so dave's been injuring himself that's what he's been up to how about you we'll talk oh okay i wish i had had stuff to talk about all i can say is that reggie has has received his jet and construction is ongoing did they ship it in a padded envelope

[00:03:12] No they did not it was actually very well packaged i would say very all the parts were very well

[00:03:19] Packaged in the box taped down where it wouldn't move there was no damage his is the military version which i still i i keep going back and forth now that it's it's at my house we're assembling it at my house yeah seeing it up close i like it in some regards and then but then other aspects of it i still like the orange white and blue that you have i'm just curious how's

[00:03:45] The covering on that because it's the vinyl stick on stuff not the so it reminds me do you

[00:03:52] Remember when our first came out yeah that's what it reminded me of when i saw it and that's what it feels like except it it is very instead of being brittle it's rubbery like you can iron it down it'll conform like where so it's not it heat won't destroy it or no light no it you can treat

[00:04:10] It just like regular covering so that's cool yeah i was really worried it's gonna be like the original arfs yeah and it'd be all wrinkly and blistery and you can't do anything with it nope no it's it

[00:04:18] Definitely seems like something you can work with and it i don't know it has a flat finish right which military jet okay that makes sense but it shows every single smudge fingerprint glower yeah like so we put quite a bit of well i use petroleum jelly on the hinges before you glue them in and yeah there's like little fingerprints of that stuff i like everywhere we were working with it and then some areas where epoxy we didn't get it

[00:04:52] Cleaned up right away it's yeah it it's just every little thing shows up on that and i think a gloss

[00:04:59] Finish would hide some of that yeah i noticed that too on the bottom of the wing when you guys were doing the yeah the hinges it it seems like well like with anything else flat paint is harder to clean yeah for sure so it's going to hold smudges it's going to hold the dirt marks and you have to be

[00:05:19] Stuff you have to be because it is a printed covering you have to be really really careful about what you clean it with i've discovered oh like the 91 percent alcohol that the isopropyl alcohol that i'm using if you use enough of it and you rub it enough you can actually rub the color off of the covering i mean i didn't rub through anywhere on the covering itself but as a little test i did a little spot like inside the gear well where i cut the covering and then folded over and

[00:05:50] Ironed it to the inside of the gear well or the wheel well yeah if you if you clean that enough you can clean the color right off of it even with just isopropyl alcohol almost sounds like it's a

[00:06:01] Candidate for a quick over spray and flat clear yeah yeah i mean i don't think that would be a bad

[00:06:06] Idea especially after you're all done because i mean i don't care how careful i mean you're gonna have stuff you're gonna get yeah like there's uncured epoxy probably on the on the towel that we were working on and there's little spots of that tiny and you're not going to see them when you get five feet away but like that stuff is all over it and i think a coat of flat after it's all done will kind of hide and you're bound to drip kerosene or diesel on it or yeah what's yeah what's diesel fuel going to do to that like i'm assuming it's okay it's going to leave a smudge

[00:06:38] Whether it well i don't know i mean i mean it's designed i mean it's that's the oil too that's in

[00:06:43] There that might leave something i spilled some the other day when i was transferring between two two containers some diesel mixed with oil didn't think anything ever i was like well wipe it up and then let it evaporate no you left this oil slick it does i forgot all about the fact that i had to put oil in with it so right right yeah i'd actually go clean that up with something yeah so

[00:07:10] Anyway yeah construction has or assembly has commenced and everything's going together well on this one a few changes that i see that they've corrected or improved changed or maybe improved from when they did yours is the act the flaps and ailerons are drilled the holes for the hinges are drilled correctly now or for the flaps anyway aligned aligned yeah look like they had changed the gear controller like maybe cheapened it up a little bit it looked like to me because

[00:07:40] Yours is aluminum right your gear controller the housing isn't it aluminum i don't remember i don't

[00:07:46] Remember it being that plastic it mine's not red well his is red plastic and red does make it look

[00:07:52] Cheaper and the holes even if it's not where the plugs like for the gear plug-in they're not square like they look like they were cut with an exacto knife and really yeah i noticed that the other night too when i was tidying up but i didn't see that but anyway yeah that's that's really all i i mean that's the only thing i've done rc relate well except for when we went flying i guess yeah i did that too but we'll talk about that in a minute what how far have you guys gotten on so all the

[00:08:22] Hinging is done we have the servos installed and the stabs and the fin and i think reggie was going to assemble the tank but we did not have the fuel tubing for the clunk line inside the tank so that's where we stopped and it was getting late he had to go so that reminds me i need to see if i have some i can send home with you okay i mean he's got some ordered but oh well then never mind yeah he he ordered it today so but yeah we i feel like we made pretty good progress getting

[00:08:54] Getting all the hinging done that's that's like one of the most time-consuming things because you have to wait for epoxy to cure yeah yeah it's a repetitive step that you have to repeat on every surface but yeah they all they all move nice and freely and we set the gaps as small as we could and still get the deflection that we needed so but yeah that's where it's at exciting i mean i guess technically you could say the gear has mounted it's not in the wing anymore because we took it out to yeah but the gear has been mounted and fitted and ran and yeah

[00:09:26] Cycled so nice yep yep cool get me excited to get mine can't wait for you one of these days you're getting there well okay so as many of our listeners probably are already aware i had car trouble back in november and i've been working on the bmw and that has really really been taking up all of my what little extra time i have that's what's what i've been working on and i'm really really close to being done mechanically speaking the repair is done i'm just now trying to sort out

[00:09:56] The little electrical gremlins that showed up after i put it back together nice not nice but that sucks but

[00:10:02] Yeah at least the hard part well i shouldn't say well i mean the dirty part is done yeah exactly

[00:10:07] Now it's the frustrating part of and i think i think i have a pretty good handle on what the issue is so i'm thinking it'll go pretty quick for you i think so the car actually i did drive it for two whole days two whole days well i mean like with no issues whatsoever no check engine light no warnings nothing yeah it was just like before i took it apart and then yeah i got a electrical thing

[00:10:31] That just kind of showed up out of nowhere so i'll get it figured out hopefully tomorrow i'm off

[00:10:36] Tomorrow so hopefully tomorrow i can get that behind me and then move on this fun stuff yeah maybe start ordering stuff for my jet nice i'm excited for that i don't know why but i am like watching the stuff that's been happening lately with jets yeah it's getting me very very excited about mine what they sit over here by myself we need to talk the only one that doesn't have

[00:11:02] We need to talk dave into getting one yeah we'll talk about it later but yeah it's pricey it is just to fly them oh well you would know i know it was more so than i expected like really we use a lot more fuel than i thought but like i said we'll talk about that when we get to it okay i want to try and keep a some sort of time frame of what has happened since we last recorded okay gotcha because if not then i get out of order and i forget what's going on okay so

[00:11:41] Yes i think the first thing i wanted to say was i saw a an announcement from sullivan rc products

[00:11:48] Did you guys see that yeah you showed that to me i had not seen that before you sent that to me or yes i did actually i saw it just as actually you sent it to me via facebook messenger just as i had gotten done reading it to which i said at least it wasn't a public service announcement

[00:12:05] Saying they weren't serving the hobby anymore yeah so i'll read what they said so i saw this posted or posted on facebook and then it's also on the sullivan rc products website it says a message to our valued modelers retail lures maybe would you like to read it retailers and customers of almost 80 years give me one more mistake i'll make one more mistake you're going to finish it okay our parent company accutronic has decided to remove itself from the rc industry to concentrate on growing in the uav industry boo yeah well i mean that's where it's all that's

[00:12:40] Where all the money's going the defense is spending its money however sullivan's 36 year

[00:12:46] Employee fred visna has acquired sullivan products rc brands and is moving the company to ocala florida due to this relocation there will be a lag in product availability there it goes there was a mistake

[00:12:59] You're up here somewhere okay due to the yeah here you go due to the relocation there will be a lag in product availability from now until late august when sullivan's new home is set up there will be no orders filled from this site until the relocation is complete thank you for your understanding of being our customer all these years and for many more see that's a good sign yeah because they anticipate moving ahead with the company after it's moved yeah continuing on there

[00:13:34] You go okay i'm gonna add that together yeah yeah yeah but no so it's a change but not an end so

[00:13:39] That's okay it's a it's a temporary ripple in the water yeah is sullivan rc products when i first saw the message from sullivan i was like i know there goes another i was thinking the exact same thing i was like oh no here we go another robart but no they're just moving the company that's all

[00:13:58] Yep that's good well the company changed its hands and the new owner is just moving it to florida yeah

[00:14:03] And that's that's a good thing yeah absolutely so we will continue to get quality sullivan products

[00:14:10] Later hopefully hopefully in august and at the end of i mean that's just next month i mean that's

[00:14:17] Going to be here before it so yeah and there will be a stock of stuff that you guys might

[00:14:22] Need at the retailers now yeah and they can yeah refill later yep exactly so yeah that's not bad news it's just news right which might be good news because who knows maybe that'll mean he's less

[00:14:34] Constrained on what yeah he gets to do that's true maybe he gets to move forward with products that

[00:14:41] Maybe he was not able to before yeah yay we'll see so move on yes at all dave you want to say anything about that i'm good with that okay good dave's happy except for his thumb let's just stop it does hurt is it throbbing a little bit yeah quit whining so horizon has a sale going on now and i couldn't resist the umx air tractor so it's on sale for 139.99 uses the same batteries as my umx

[00:15:14] Turbo timber evolution we've got to slow down to make sure i get that right and so it will be delivered tomorrow actually i went ahead and ordered that today because they say i had it no i got the shipping i got the shipping notification from fedex already yeah i ordered it today because i have been hemming and hawing back and forth and i finally just gave up and said

[00:15:38] What i mean you liked the bigger one i did and sold it yeah i was gonna say didn't we just get rid of

[00:15:43] That that one flew good but it was just it was a pain for me to take the wings off and there are other planes i would like to take with me when i go fly that i would rather fly than that one does that make sense like if i could have flown that one here without issue okay yeah i would have kept but the small one i'm following yeah no reason i can't just you can't run out backs yeah umx is awesome like i can't believe i'm saying that but i've gotten into the umx thing way too much

[00:16:22] In my mind i'm going over the umx's that i have that and i've enjoyed all of them yeah the little umx conchendo is a blast no right my ultrax that goes with me every time i fly that thing is just a it's just a tank that's missing the nose it is but it still flies good yeah you're rough on that thing it's i mean so far all i've had to do is borrow a prop from dave

[00:16:48] Yeah i mean they take a beating and they make a cool noise when they hit the ground they do

[00:16:54] Don't they ron i wouldn't know yes i absolutely would know let's see what else so this really doesn't apply to the three of us

[00:17:06] But today horizon also released their ix sr surface radio oh that's what the announcement was okay yeah that was there for the last couple weeks the whole big oh i figured it was a surface radio because the yeah it was definitely surface radio i was excited at first i was like oh what are they coming out with that i'm gonna have to buy so what's the price on it i didn't get a look at it way too much oh i knew that well i mean maybe not i don't know what surface stuff is

[00:17:36] Did they break a thousand on a car radio no no no 699.99 and that comes with a receiver

[00:17:41] So i probably said i come with two or three but well but i mean like really i guess if you look at the the things it does it's the ix series android based all that that's not ridiculous

[00:17:53] Yeah i saw that at startup was less than 60 seconds but it's the same see you're looking at

[00:18:00] It differently it's not the same as just like the old dx radios that's on oh i'm done flying off like as tommy now knows with his ix 14 which is i love it's a quick boot up now yeah once you turn it on you turn it on for the day and you leave it on i remember when you got your ix 12 i thought that was the weirdest thing ever yes like i was just like what do you mean you you turn it on and

[00:18:23] Then you leave it on all day you put it to sleep but yeah you leave it on yeah i'm still having

[00:18:28] Trails switching from sony to megahertz where you click it on it is on yeah my dx series comes on fast now it takes like what three to five seconds now so in i'm sorry go ahead no i don't know where

[00:18:41] You're going in spectrum's defense it might be the same thing i was going to say so back in the day

[00:18:45] When i was racing i bought the dx 3r pro with the drop wheel and all that and all the options and i think that radio was 400 bucks and no touch screen no color screen typical dx programming i don't know i don't think i don't think six what is it 699 699 it's really for a super high-end radio yes and that's what that is that is that is an ultra in my opinion an ultra high-end and so i

[00:19:12] Haven't three channel is it three no it's at least five five because it comes with a five channel receiver yeah it might be more i don't know because i didn't look into it yeah so the

[00:19:21] One i bought years ago was only three yeah for i'm pretty sure it was it might have been over 400

[00:19:27] Bucks when i got a dx5 i can't remember what i paid for it but it was under two yeah so but what i was

[00:19:33] Going to say though in the defense of the ix series radios when you turn them on they are transmitting on the last model that you had them on yep yeah so you can turn it on before everything's booted as

[00:19:45] Soon as that orange light is on it is transmitting yep yeah as long as you're on the model you were

[00:19:51] Last yeah yeah or racing or driving still doesn't have cruise control i don't know actually i mean

[00:19:59] Because that was one thing it has launch mode for drag racing that has a couple other things for different things that people do on the ground i don't know i'm sorry i'm not a really a ground guy but i mean it looks like it has a lot of features that would be good if you're into that

[00:20:15] Yeah i mean i haven't looked at it yet but i'm sure it's awesome yeah it looks cool for what it is it's got led lights on each side that you can change per model i still like to dig out my dx 3r pro and drive my own associated four-wheel drive truck with it it's still a good radio

[00:20:34] Yeah but yeah i'm sure this one's even better piper is wanting to get into faster rc cars so especially since we have the track or in monticello that she wants to drive and race on so that's going to get pricey it starts crashing i still have all my old tracks and stuff yeah i was gonna say give her a rustler those are fast enough and yeah i think i still have three or four of

[00:20:57] Those so and parts to make more those things were tough i actually made one for the dogs to chase down i had a kydex cover over all the stuff yeah tires are a little worse for wear now because i'd

[00:21:11] Like to grab the tires but yeah yeah we actually because we used to have a track right here i know you remember that tommy yeah it was fun we actually ran to where we use tires like i actually wore through tires which is like unheard of i think especially on dirt but we were just not

[00:21:29] That unheard of no really it seems to me it seems like it should be unheard of like i said so yeah like back in my racing days we go to a big race and you would we would go through several sets

[00:21:40] Of tires really i burned up three hundred dollars worth of tires in memphis in one weekend

[00:21:44] Oh on asphalt for sure but i'm talking like this was a dirt track here like dirt racing like out at alan's place or mckay's if you go way back yeah we would go through like at a big event we would go through sets of tires so yeah it's not that unheard of i i guess i just didn't realize

[00:22:03] That like i expected it's dirt they should blast but they never did dirt's actually very abrasive

[00:22:09] Cool maybe especially when it's prepared watered and tacky and all that kind of good stuff

[00:22:14] We tried but most of the time it was just dusty yeah well that was a lot of track to water that was fun god i miss those days yeah so new car radio or surface radio excuse me yep cool what else well i think that's about all i mean i'm just excited to talk about what you're going to talk about we're going to get to it so dave bought another airplane we were talking about before

[00:22:43] Several it sounds like several yeah no just one i was gonna say where'd you hear several well but did you talk about have you already talked about the the twist what the mctwist yeah yeah that was

[00:22:55] That's old news oh is it okay yeah you were gone oh okay yeah all right well anyway sorry we're putting more lights on mctwist there we go oh i forgot you ordered more yeah those are i think i've reached the maximum because they're starting to dim it's like daylight when he

[00:23:12] Flies by it's just this big orb flying is there such a thing as two there might be such a thing as

[00:23:18] Like i said i have reached the maximum number of lights okay because and not just for battery draw

[00:23:23] But for the amount for looking at it yes being able to see it yeah yeah it's like a neon glow now yeah and dave's has he has weird like i don't even know what those lights are called but the the leds that he has on front they are so bright like if you're within five feet you cannot look at it because it just blinds you like when he's flying 30 40 50 feet away that atmosphere dims them enough to where it's not like blinding but right yeah i call them headlights but yeah they are dimmer now

[00:23:55] Though that i've got all these other lights you're pulling too many amps and stuff through the battery yeah it's pretty cool though i like it so what's this new one so i ran across a special deal at one o'clock in the morning oh geez kind of an impulse buy you don't drunk order stuff on amazon readymade rc was having a flat spin sale which i've never heard of before a flat spin say that's been sale a flat spin sale i figured i should say it too you should what that is is

[00:24:29] They take one percent off every five minutes they only have one of an item and when it's gone it's gone well i don't know i think it was on our discord that i saw that they had the flat rates or flat spin sale and i was kind of curious what it was and what they had on there so i got poking at it and it was late because i was up working on the cub and it's like one o'clock in the morning i'm lying there and dad getting ready to go to sleep and i see that they had this strix goblin on there

[00:25:00] The goblin yeah i got it for under 65 bucks

[00:25:07] Well let me ask you this in the morning i was gonna say at one o'clock in the morning who else do you think would have possibly i probably could have let it go till six in the morning i was

[00:25:16] Gonna say maybe you don't want to take that chance to save four bucks i want to be able to sleep yeah yeah i don't think yeah so what are they normally the version i got is 95 dollars oh

[00:25:28] That's not a good savings yeah yeah i would have not actually no it's 99 yeah close enough yeah i

[00:25:33] Would have jumped on that too so anyway i own this it showed up in the mail today it the fuselage looks like a giant football because it wasn't much to the assembly there's there's four pieces in

[00:25:46] The box oh i was gonna say he just got it today and then he came out here oh come on have time

[00:25:50] There's a there's a fuselage telling me he didn't open that box as soon as he got it

[00:25:54] No i didn't actually oh okay but yeah it there's five pieces there's main fuselage a left the right wing and a spar so you think you'll fly that before reggie flies his jet yes and the electronics package is backward so and i'm still gonna be reggie but poor reggie he's waiting on

[00:26:21] Servos so it's kind of out of his hands really whether he has it ready for the jet meet or not

[00:26:28] No no because you can get everything else done other than those four servos absolutely absolutely

[00:26:35] Let's not stop on the turbine installation no or all that no no no we can definitely move forward with that but eventually we'll get to a point where we need those servos yeah yeah did you by by the way did you send him the link to those multi-connectors i did okay good all right yeah

[00:26:56] So and how like so dave showed getting back to what dave just bought sorry he showed me the ad for it and the very first bullet i'll let you talk about it dave so the very first bullet in the

[00:27:08] Features department says please do not exceed 200 mile an hour in a dive without reinforcing the

[00:27:15] Hinges sweet i can't wait so dave will be ready for jets yeah he'll be 200 mile an hour he'll be set it reminds me of a large version of me 163 but yeah not quite as yeah exactly except the wing is

[00:27:32] Kind of at the back it's at the back and it's ford swept a little bit yeah it's kind of neat

[00:27:38] Looking it reminds me of the what's that one from flex they do something oh that flying piranha thing rana yeah kind of reminds me of that but backwards yeah yeah okay i was trying to see where you're going with that when you yeah like a like a yeah i could have reversed like 180 degree piranha kind of i can see that yeah with a blimp fuselage with a blimp football fuselage

[00:28:03] So it'd be interesting as a just how do you launch it like a football in fact it says throw it hard like a football oh well okay so it's got grip tape on it and everything else so i guess we're gonna find out for an impulse buy we'll see how this works yeah and i'm into weird so that you are you gonna paint it silver i could i was actually thinking about it's blue molded orange fuselage though and i don't know if i can paint that we can get it to stick so we're stuck with orange oh that's

[00:28:32] A shame by the way orange is my favorite color yeah because everybody knows i know i was thinking just

[00:28:38] Turning into another give me 163 but that that orange is killing me yeah but also at those speeds you want it to be yeah i want to be able to see it be able to see it yeah so why it's more fun when

[00:28:53] You can't well it's more fun for everybody else yeah can you imagine it hitting the ground at 200 mile an hour confetti this is no reason to go pick it up no leave just leave it like i shouldn't

[00:29:05] Admit to this and i just remembered when you said that but so one of the things when i went to eli i was by myself it was just me and crystal and piper and i was flying slow ultra stick and i was being lazy and not going out to the runway so how there's space between the pavilion thing that you can yes and you're on my table so i did that somebody else too by the way but anyway so i was just taking off in front of that and not thinking and i kind of went

[00:29:39] Back because the way that is set up this is safe by the way the way that is set up you can kind of fly a little bit behind you because it's open field off to the right so i did that with slow ultra stick and all of a sudden it just disappeared i was like oh oh like i didn't know which way it was like headed or what and luckily i just like pulled up on the stick and ran for like i actually ran i don't run but i ran forward and then all of a sudden it was actually coming back towards me but going up so i the pucker factor went away after i saw it yeah but yes it was

[00:30:17] Going away from me behind disappeared and and the lesson that you learned don't do that again don't

[00:30:24] Do that don't fly behind you yeah ever ever yeah my bad even if you have room and i was i was thinking

[00:30:31] Like the weirdest thing is as soon as it disappeared the first thing in my mind well this is going to be an embarrassing story when i crash it well still kind of embarrassing it survived the ring of fire and i lose it because because i do something stupid but no it worked out okay like it's still in one piece i flew it after but yeah don't do that everybody that was dumb yeah don't don't fly it behind you yeah so what did it disappear behind the shelter yeah okay like where i was standing i was i was almost

[00:31:03] Under the shelter was it dusk also no oh it was still i mean because we know somebody that likes to fly in those types of conditions yeah are you gonna name names no oh so he just has

[00:31:16] To know who he is well he knows who he is oh we talk about him all the time reggie yeah oh it rhymes with edgy he likes to fly when the when the visibility is not optimal i'll just look at that but anyway it worked out for you it did oops is it bad that a little part of me wishes that that had gone a different way and you would have an embarrassing story to tell that is terrible

[00:31:42] It is bad but i will say if it happened to somebody else i would wish the same thing oh we're bad people at least if they're a witness yeah yeah yeah actually i probably wouldn't have had to say anything if i actually crashed it and just got a new one i figured it out didn't have a smudge

[00:32:02] On what happened oh well that wing was kind of worn out i just wanted to replace it make it look nice

[00:32:06] Yeah there's an excuse and a reason you can make up for all of it i need to buy one of those eventually you really do like i'm not joking that is a great no great flying to convince me i know they

[00:32:16] Are you let me flyers a lot make you a package deal on a night radian and a slow stick oh you have one

[00:32:21] Yeah oh i didn't know you had one i bought it at toledo oh oh that's right i didn't go to toledo

[00:32:29] I wasn't gonna rub that in your face again but thanks dave yeah -huh way to go you don't like yeah that's what is it too boring for you it's not weird enough for him and it's not weird enough

[00:32:41] And i'm trying to bulge myself of horizon products ah that makes sense well that's a win-win for us

[00:32:48] Yes yes exactly so there you go make yourself i gotta come up with something that dave wants

[00:32:57] I sold a lot of that stuff though at dayton remember i know you sold everything but i didn't sell everything you didn't you didn't so i saved some stuff some good stuff i'll come up with

[00:33:07] Something okay maybe next time we can talk about whatever deal you guys make so you can get a slow ultra stick and a night radian okay speaking of night radian yes we went out you had an issue with yours when we went out well i'm going in order and this is still why you were gone so shush your mouth and listen oh it was okay no i'm glad i'm clear over here no so i went out night flying with dave and daniel do you remember that from so long ago like it feels like it was forever ago two weeks ago but we have not recorded since then that was last for the we required on thursday

[00:33:40] And went yeah and like i said i was still gone so that was more than two weeks ago no two weeks ago you were still gone you came home that saturday i think i'm so lost or maybe you came home that i don't remember slipping away i know right anyway go ahead so we went out we flew i flew the habu ss quite a bit actually not quite a bit i think i got four flights in on that one flew the slow ultra stick and the night radian one thing i did find that i didn't realize my truck has a 110 volt outlet in it nice my expedition but here's my problem oh what nothing

[00:34:18] Go ahead oh i didn't know what you're gonna say i was i'm curious what the capacity of that is thank

[00:34:26] You so that's my problem okay it is 150 watts 110 volts i mean that's not like small but i don't know what that actually equates to when it comes to charging yeah a 3s 2200 battery isn't it watts times volts as amps isn't that the the amps equals watts yes but what's the conversion of like 110 volt to because i mean i'm pulling more than 150 watts from 12 volts yeah i don't know so that's that's what i

[00:35:01] Don't understand like how much can i put in amp wise at a 3s battery so i was i charge one because it's two part charge or two port charger right i charged one at eight amps and it was fine which that's i think pretty good off of off of something like that until now we've been used to charging at two amps yeah depending on what it is one c yeah so i mean that was nice that i was able to keep up as i was flying still like that but the truck has to be running which that's cool whatever but i don't know what i can push that to without blowing a fuse so if anybody is smart

[00:35:38] Enough to know what i can charge at drop me an email because i'm curious how i should be able to push that 150 watts yeah at 120 volts to how many watts because i know it's a 400 watt charger but is i mean is that 400 watts at 12 volts or whatever or is that that it draws right or is

[00:36:03] That pulling 400 watts at 110 volts i would assume i don't know i would assume and i'm like i said assuming if you advertise it as a 400 watt charger that is the output 400 divided by two right yeah well yes so what that equates to what it's pulling i mean it's got to be that much or maybe a little more we'll just put an amp meter on and find out yeah

[00:36:29] Stick an amp clamp on the leads and probably figure it out right after one of our watt meters

[00:36:34] Or that yeah oh but that doesn't tell me what it's pulling 110 that's what i need to know that's what you need the amp clamp yeah yeah i don't have one otherwise i'd i actually think i do i'm sure yeah i think it's actually hanging out one of those fluke yeah yeah yep it's just a

[00:36:50] Yep okay i've got one so we can there you go figure that out but anyway if anybody has an easy

[00:36:55] Answer so i don't have to do all that because i'm probably not going to do that anytime soon

[00:36:58] Yeah let me know well and plus you'd have to go outside to do that what is that supposed to mean

[00:37:04] It's hot out there you don't like to be outside i was outside earlier and then thinking about

[00:37:09] How hot it was it was hot today wasn't that hot would it get up to 88 today yeah it's beautiful that's freaking hot 82 when i got off i didn't even like run the air conditioning in my traverse on the way home today you're a weirdo it was nice what are you talking about i can't turn mine off

[00:37:26] Yeah same with me like it's always on well yes in the house it's it's not in the car in the car it's literally stuck on because i've got that recall going i can't turn it off can't turn it off okay well i can but i won't yeah as tommy sits down here with a blanket covering his

[00:37:42] Always fragile old legs well they are old but they're not fragile they could kick your butt

[00:37:48] Oh absolutely that's not a that's not a high bar just saying

[00:37:53] But anyway so got to fly with those new lights that i put on the front looks great works great the front ones really helped yeah i like how those look i was having trouble with the taillights you have to be at the right angle to see the taillights which is okay yeah because not seeing the white lights still tells me that i'm going away yeah plus the red and green on the tips it helps a lot yeah so that was that night what i don't remember what all you flew because you well mctwist i had oh wait i remember i remember a story too

[00:38:25] Keep going though mctwist and not my wing yes that's the story so dan or dave flew his wing he was having fun with it whatever and then he went to fly it again and i mean he he was

[00:38:42] Upset do you want to tell the story you want me to tell a lot of problem that week with my spectrum equipment unbinding itself so yeah why do they do this it's driving me freaking crazy so you can hear

[00:38:54] The reserved i don't want to say attitude but the reserved speech emotion emotion thank you that he has right now so imagine at the field with nobody else around when he goes to fly his airplane again and it won't oh i can i've heard that i've already had one not bind my big twist right bound so he rebound it and then the ailerons were or the elevons were backwards so he was this is just stupid blah blah blah it was so funny like it wasn't funny at the time but looking back at it

[00:39:27] No i'm i'm familiar with and this is in the dark by the way yes because it's night flying right and so he gets all that set up make sure everything is fine flies it flies great yeah has a good flight no trim changes just reverse avalanche the twist or the other one the other one the wing the shadow seeker oh yes the shadow seeker so anyway so he lands and picks it up takes the battery out and goes to put in his truck and then he realizes that oh mine's already in the truck so apparently

[00:39:58] Somebody grabbed daniel's oh no so no wonder it wouldn't bind no wonder he had to reset the radio

[00:40:06] But the trims were perfect i didn't think it was rolling a little slower than normal i have mine set at 150 rate and all the way down on the horn where he doesn't right yeah so i thought

[00:40:16] Okay it's rolling a little slower but oh dave was daniel there too yeah so did you guys both have

[00:40:23] Viewers there yeah we both had our shadow seekers right yeah and they both flown them so i grabbed his shadow seeker instead of mine because it's dark and they're identical yeah oh it was but for some reason though the evalon a and b is mixed between my dx9 and his dx8 which didn't yeah it's backwards weird but that's why you do a pre-flight though make sure everything moves the right direction

[00:40:47] Exactly that is true he caught it before yeah well i still flew the wrong airplane oh i that just like as soon as you oh my gosh went to put that in the back of your truck and you saw the other one daniel and i looked at each other and we just started laughing like oh that's the problem it's not a trim change i'm impressed that's impressive yeah that means you

[00:41:11] Guys had it set up a lot of like that yeah funny so there you go if you have a i can make sure it's yours like before you before you yeah get mad at horizon or a spectrum just make sure it's your airplane why is this not binding although i've had that issue before of an airplane becoming an

[00:41:29] Unbound for no apparent reason my mctwist unbound itself at the field that night so i'm i'm living at

[00:41:36] This point yeah i don't know what causes that that's but yeah i'm sure at that point you were ready

[00:41:41] To be done with horizon forever i'm gonna throw this dx9 in the ditch and run over it seriously

[00:41:47] Looking at radio master okay we'll do it try it that way somebody around us has something that

[00:41:52] They can talk about good things about the fr sky or fry sky or the only free sky back is the 75

[00:41:58] Receivers i own that are spectrum well i think well i don't know but i think there's a way yeah

[00:42:05] There's a module or something that you can still use them make those work so but i don't know i don't

[00:42:09] Yeah i'm not ready to switch radio at this point but but i'm getting closer it's getting closer

[00:42:14] Every day by god if it can't fly someone else's plane i know right what's wrong with this thing

[00:42:22] This is so messed up and i really want to pay attention to it except for having to switch avalons that was the worst part it's like what yeah not only did it unbind it switched directions

[00:42:33] Switch directions oh and we heard about it oh yeah it was a great time oh sorry i missed that i am too we well it's it was yeah it's probably better that there wasn't somebody there that would play off me very much i'm really glad piper wasn't around yeah we would have gotten in trouble yeah probably oh man so that was our trip

[00:42:56] To the field that night still it sounds like you guys had fun it was a good night yeah that is a lot of fun we need to do it again what i really like about night flying it's usually not

[00:43:06] Windy and well it was getting a little breezy yeah it wasn't that was unfortunate yeah it was it was about i don't want to say the limit but it was to the point where it wasn't as fun as it could have been oh well that's especially with a night radian that doesn't have ailerons yeah you were getting tossed pretty good yeah yeah but it was still i mean it was still i mean you were still flying flight so yeah i wasn't so there you go true speaking of flying though you did go do some flying with me i did four trips out of my six days off to the field yeah like

[00:43:43] Honestly this fourth of july weekend was probably the best one at least in recent history if not that i've ever had oh yeah like it was it was awesome so awesome like it was it was nice because we celebrated the fourth right we actually went out on daniel's boat which piper had a blast with that yeah flew a lot and that i mean let's just say that was like the perfect time away from work i enjoyed it as it should be yeah right right yeah but you and i went over let's see that was

[00:44:16] Tuesday night yeah only reason i remember that is because that's when our meetings are you went for the meeting yeah we went for the meeting and we took airplanes to fly of course and since you were off wednesday and i was off wednesday i asked are you in a hurry to get home and you said no so we took night airplanes to fly did and i had a little problem with my night radian one of the wing panels would not work at all you were having issues with that was it well so i went i forgot when i went out with you i was having problems with the fuselage not the not the wings

[00:44:51] Not the the rear stab lights but just the fuselage lights like we're not reacting to the different colors like they yeah they were kind of flashing weirdly but not in tune with what they should be to the rest of the time yeah it was weird so when i was at the field there i was unplugging unplugging them back in see if i could get anything to do it we thought maybe that the leds i put on are pulling a little bit more amperage and that was causing something but i don't think that had

[00:45:19] Anything to do with it honestly well no i wouldn't think so because when the night we flew they were

[00:45:24] Fine except for that one wing panel right so i had an issue with the wing panel to where the led that i put on the front was working fine none of the other leds would light yeah and that like panel there was one led like at the very inside that was just kind of flickering barely you could see a little bit of light through it but it wasn't responding how it's supposed to so i figured the lights went bad i figured something yeah happened we flew it anyway you flew it oh i guess i did a little bit but i i think i was more upset with it than anything because it wasn't working right

[00:45:56] Yeah so like i said this is the important part the led that i put on was working so the one that i wired to the positive and minus was working okay so when i got home actually it was the next day i brought it inside and was going to try and figure out what was wrong while i plugged it in everything worked so i was like what what is going on then i realized that night i plugged the servo

[00:46:26] Connector because that's how they're powered as a servo connector in backwards so when i plugged that in backwards here did the exact same thing i got the led that i installed to work and nothing else would work so apparently the signal wire for those color changing leds the addressable ones has enough power in it to at least run that led that i had one led yeah so so now i know if that actors or you

[00:46:53] Just put a mark on them so which way they need to go no i didn't change anything okay i just

[00:47:00] Know that if that happens again it's upside down flip it over yeah i mean fuse behave itself because

[00:47:05] You don't you don't unplug that fuse there's no reason for that one to get flipped and it worked just

[00:47:09] Fine and even when i plugged everything back in and i flew it again it worked just fine it was weird because i took it to the field the next day well yeah you sent me a picture later that

[00:47:21] Night after we got home yeah of it completely lit yeah that's like are you kidding me you may have called yourself some names which you agree with so that's i did not weird yeah but i'm glad it was a

[00:47:35] Simple fix yeah me too but when we were there you got to fly one of your new airplanes yeah well i mean

[00:47:41] I took the ultrax because it i take it everywhere because it's so small and easy to transport and i flew the replacement turbo timber evolution it flies okay i mean it's a temper the gear i mean if you're flying off of grass it's probably fine i forgot your landings were bouncy they were terrible okay i wasn't gonna say it but i well no you can say it they were terrible they were pretty bad and i'm usually pretty decent at smooth landings normally normally but this thing just bounces

[00:48:16] Of course now it's asphalt runway and the gear is probably designed to be well i mean it does have the stiff springs and stuff on it so it's probably very stiff springs and that's too stiff and the wheels don't give none like not at all it's a very hard foam rubber continue to talk i forgot about something yeah so the airplane flies okay i moved the to try to get maximum throw 150 in the radio inside hole on the arms and outside hole in the surface trying to get the

[00:48:48] Most deflection i could because that's some of the reviews they recommended that run the battery

[00:48:53] As far back as i can get cg back get it it's just not i hear they're horribly nose heavy in

[00:48:59] From the from the with the factory settings that that may be and i'm using a lightweight battery to try to minimize that i'm only running mine with the 2200 and you can run up to what a 3300 in these things four cell yeah but but yeah i mean it's it flies good i mean it's a very stable and it's hard to well i'm not gonna say hard to get in trouble with it i mean it has it has its limits but i don't know i don't know if it was because i had higher higher expectations because of the reviews i watched and how awesome the first one i had flew

[00:49:33] On floats i mean i never flew it off the gear right that was brand new and i flew it off the floats brand new twice so i don't know what i like why i just feel disappointed in it like well

[00:49:45] I think you need to make it a little bit more tail heavy and see how it goes yeah i think you're right but i'm saddened to hear that you're not happy with it because i did horizon has sales going on this week and i did buy you something you did what is this the wheels no i didn't spend that much

[00:50:02] Oh it's the little model it's the christmas ornament awesome well i can't get rid of it now i know sorry that's okay i think what i'm going to do besides trying to modify the battery tray so i can get the battery farther back i'm going to put the super timber wheels on it yeah and i think some of the stuff i've read online that helps immensely so yeah especially if you're flying off of asphalt which you will be i will be yeah so i think that'll help a lot but yeah if you have to add a little

[00:50:30] Of the tail weight i might we'll see just see what it does i mean it's not it doesn't fly bad

[00:50:36] It's just not as exciting as you want yeah it's not as yeah exactly what you said it's not as exciting i think as i had built my expectations yeah because on the floats maybe because of the cgs farther back a little more weight yeah a little higher wing loading yeah a little more lively less floaty yeah even though it's floats right but i know what you meant so yeah i'll tinker with it i mean i'm not going to give up on it so at least not right away well you can't now because i got the matching christmas

[00:51:06] Thank you wrong which is like a 75 scale umx yeah yeah yeah i haven't opened that up because

[00:51:14] I haven't actually seen well don't it's yours do whatever you want with it you don't have to open it but i would be curious to see because i've not seen that before there you go i got my

[00:51:23] Crutch bag with my knife your kenefe got it

[00:51:30] So anyway i flew that and the did i take no that was it it was just those two of the

[00:51:36] Well no did you wow this is bad of me did you take your decathlon or not oh no that was

[00:51:43] Oh that's cute this is a die cast this is heavy i thought it would be just a little foam thing but it is an exact yeah it's an exact replica of mine look at that

[00:51:58] That's cool i like very cool they had them on sale for five bucks so well thank you you're

[00:52:02] Very much i love it it will go on the christmas tree right next to the the ron and crystal hey we got married ornament that we put up every year and then send you a picture of

[00:52:13] And then take it right down after that no we leave it on

[00:52:17] No cool yeah that yeah well i don't know what i did maybe this will sit next to my cookie trophy

[00:52:24] That you didn't get and you didn't get but i got i know we'll win it back next year but anyway probably so that was cheat that was our our meeting night yeah good times and then you left me

[00:52:38] And what what are you talking about well you didn't come back the rest of the the trips i made well well yeah because we went to ohio to visit well i understand but still you left me well okay that's all i'm saying i guess technically you could say that yeah so the next day was okay

[00:52:53] So every year the the club puts on an open house on july 3rd july 3rd is when monticello does their fireworks so everybody the public comes out watches fireworks from there which is getting harder to do as the trees grow you don't see as much but yeah they're taller i'm not there for the fireworks that's okay and then we have open flying and i mean like it's an open house so you don't have to be a member you just have to be an ama member in order to fly there and stuff no fees or anything it's just fly what you brought we sell food we do all that kind of stuff so this year

[00:53:26] I manned the grill along with a couple other people and good for you thank you that was stressful like i could not work in a kitchen like really oh yeah i mean i'm yeah that just wasn't my thing like i was happy to help out and stuff and i'll do it again next year if we need to that's fine but man it's stressful when people are like watching you because they're waiting for their food and you're like it ain't done yet you gotta wait i know it's like there's nothing you can do about that i know but i just yeah cook faster right i'll just turn up the heat and burn it no but anyway

[00:54:01] So we had a really good turnout for that did a lot of people show up and fly yeah actually there was good deal i couldn't tell you how many because i mean the tables were were pretty full there wasn't flying constantly because i mean everything was going on there were people on the rc tracks like said we were cooking there's a lot of people helping serve and all that stuff piper did such a good job she was back there with us too helping with getting all the the buns out and making sure everything was organized the way it's supposed to and then crystal ended up coming over later and

[00:54:34] Then that's when piper quit and just went and hung out with her but that's okay

[00:54:40] Well yeah dad's making me work mom's gonna show up and i don't have to work i know right

[00:54:45] But the i'm gonna be honest the the what's what i'm looking for the the highlight of the night was there was somebody that pulled in with a cyber truck really that was the closest i have ever got to be to one to actually see it touch it feel it drool on it i i mean i tell you what i think crystal wants one more than i do really yeah she was very impressed and the guy was super nice like i walked up and i was like i'm sorry i don't want to be that guy i said but i like your car and so i mean

[00:55:21] That was enough to where he's like oh no we can talk and all that kind of stuff because i guess he gets it a lot i'm sure i mean he opened everything up for us to see he showed us the suspension how it moves up and down quickly i mean i don't want to get into it too much because this is not what this podcast is about but i i even told the guys at the field i was like well this makes my night like i don't care what else happens this is the highlight you cannot top this but yeah it was it was pretty cool was it a completely stock one yeah yeah there was no wrapped in flat black

[00:55:54] Mm-hmm or red or chrome or white or whatever yeah there was one i saw here in springfield that

[00:56:01] Was wrapped looked like like a halo something or another like i don't play games but it had that little it kind of looked neat but anyway yeah so closest i ever got to one of those and i was quite impressed yeah it's honestly smaller than i was hoping really it's not small but i would have like something a little bit bigger well maybe it's good that you didn't buy one well i can't afford one now i mean i'm waiting for the prices to come down what are they 89 now no they're still the

[00:56:32] Cheapest ones 100 grand wow yeah when we ordered we were told 49.9 yeah and i'm fine with that like i will pay that no problem but sure anybody would right now can't double that for a new one anyway anyway yeah so that's cool you had a good time i enjoyed that very much then so the next day fourth of july was a good day that was the day i got to and i didn't but somebody else did for me got to maiden the mb339 i have now flown nine flights on my own on it some of them were buddy boxes but not

[00:57:11] With them doing anything right and i've passed my waiver test and will now be getting my turbine

[00:57:17] Waiver that's awesome i'm very excited so for folks that don't know the process what does it take to get a turbine waiver so i'm curious myself because i will have to go through that as well i'm going to

[00:57:31] Be honest on the third the july 3rd when i was there there's another guy that's also working on his turbine waiver and so the the i don't want to say test but the knowledge portion we all went over and we're just kind of having a conversation on how to do things on what to look for and all that kind of stuff so after that conversation the the guy that signed me off was happy with what was happy enough that i knew what i was doing in order to have that does that make sense yep so because

[00:58:08] Of that and the conversations and stuff we've had in the past he knew that i had the basics down in order to be considered okay on that part of the test and honestly so the first couple flights that i flew very nerve-wracking i'm sure because you just you don't know the airplane yet and it's it's a hard mental thing to get over when your wife is there and she's pretty much she knows

[00:58:46] How much you spend on it and knows like i know that if i crashed it she's not gonna let me buy another one right now well i mean we would have that conversation i'm i don't know but anyway hopefully you don't have to have that conversation right and so i just felt the judgy eyes on me but she never made any comments anything like that but so once once i kind of settled down from that and honestly just the the first flights on it were

[00:59:20] So being on a buddy box helps a lot sure just to calm your nerves on that because you have training wheels if you do something stupid and having somebody there that's experienced that has flown this probably more than anybody else honestly knowing that he knows the airplane enough to sense if i'm starting to get into into problems beforehand yeah made me just calm me down quite a bit too so after having like i said a few flights with him i flew i think

[00:59:55] I don't know if i flew by myself that day or not it doesn't matter and so the next day or actually it was a couple days later i went back and flew the yeah official that was the day i guess

[01:00:09] Reggie and i started on on the assembly yeah you guys should have come just saying but anyway

[01:00:14] Reggie was making progress so i i actually was surprised you didn't i wanted to but reggie was making

[01:00:22] Good progress and i don't want to slow him down so yeah i get it but anyway so then for the the

[01:00:30] Qualification flight it was it was just a simple if you can show your what you're doing if you can be told okay do a cuban aid do practice your approaches doing whatever like that and you can show you have control the jet and still kind of talk to the the pilot in control and all that kind of stuff it's not that bad and it all depends i think who you have help signing you off also yeah

[01:00:57] So the process is there's a there's a an like an initial q a with with the guy that's going to an interview okay an interview and then you just fly with him on the buddy box and when yeah you have

[01:01:11] To fly on the buddy box for your first flights which is good yeah i'm happy with it and then so when

[01:01:16] The when the signee is good with i'm sorry the signer when he is okay and feels confident that the signee knows what he's doing and can fly the airplane in a safe manner then he just signs off and then that's all there is to it pretty much oh okay i mean like why do you need there's two different

[01:01:34] Signatures that's just how they have it set up okay one one of them has to be an experienced turbine pilot okay and then one of them has to be an extra or experienced turbine pilot that's also a cd okay

[01:01:47] So you have to have two signatures though yeah you have to have so like a cd can't sign both

[01:01:52] Well you could have somebody that is a cd sign both but not the same person not the same cd right so i mean it's not saying that okay so it can't be easy so a cd a contest director who has that on

[01:02:08] Their ama license who also has a turbo waiver and lots of turbine experience cannot by himself

[01:02:13] Sign off a new turbine pilot okay but you could have two cds yes but you could not just have two regular turbine pilots one has to be a cd yes got it okay so and i mean that's where we are luckily

[01:02:27] That's not hard to come by lots of lots of experience lots of people to help and they're all

[01:02:33] Very helpful yeah yeah seem to be and like everything that i did for the qualification flight wasn't necessarily on one flight either it can be over just a couple flights with it's not a pass fail right fly it until you pass right and you can do it as many times as you need to but like i said it wasn't that bad we we practiced the the missed approach like if you didn't quite get it in and when i say we practiced it was not on purpose it was it was literally i mean it's a brand

[01:03:01] New airplane you haven't you have no time with so you haven't really figured out the the key moments in the flight to add flaps or drop gear or chop the throttle or whatever and my my biggest

[01:03:13] Fear was stalling it sure and it's always stalling it on that final turn to approach that you just you don't know how fast you need to be going how slow anything like that one of the things that they had me do was go up very high and just do nothing but practice stalls and practice stalls as you're turning for your final approach that's yeah and what i really like about that airplane even if you're 70 degrees twisted or at a bank angle 70 degrees when you stall it stalls flat oh nice it just

[01:03:48] Settles right down give it some power and that's the other thing of practicing that is you actually can kind of see what the airplane is doing before it stalls yeah and you can tell that's starting to get less control surface authority right and it's kind of coming so as long as you just kind of throttle up then you're fine yeah and so with that one you keep throttle on until you are lined up and ready to land and then cut throttle all the way down to idle and then just let it settle in and it lands very nicely very predictably yeah i'm very happy with it yeah the video by the

[01:04:23] Way videos it looks it looks very well behaved yes so far the the maiden is online ali machine she flew that for me and so that's what i have on youtube i don't remember if i have that on the website yet or not it will eventually be on the the website's build log i'm gonna have everything else up on there like i said i don't think that's working quite yet on the the link but i can get that done probably not before this comes out but shortly afterwards but yeah i mean like i said it was

[01:04:56] Nerve-wracking but easy and i'm excited for you guys to get into it too he's talking to both of us i know okay do re mi i know speaking of that by the way so there was the other thing the first day i think the first day ended up having eight or nine flights on it i've written down but i don't remember right off hand of which three alley flew by himself so those eight or nine flights total

[01:05:34] Three gallons of fuel oh my so be prepared okay so i was asking them like what do you do you have a five gallon tank do you try and figure out well five gallon tank of fuel you bring with your jug yeah five and a half gallons i said so how do you figure out how much oil to put in or do you have another tank or something that you use to fill that they of course said the best thing to do is have another tank that you can leave full and just refill the other diesel tank because i'm using diesel

[01:06:05] You can just refill that other tank into the tank you bring to the field into the jug you bring to the field does that make sense so you bring five gallons of fuel with you every time and then when you're like at home you can refill that with what you have stocked at home am i explaining that well yet still not tracking that okay so i have a fuel jug that's five and a half gallons i take with me to the field right i also have of that five and a half gallon jug there's five gallons of fuel and

[01:06:40] How much oil one quart okay so one quart per five gallons okay okay but that's neither here nor there

[01:06:46] On this one i'm just talking about the fuel container i'm bringing with me okay so i have this fuel container that has fuel in it when i get low and need to refill it instead of trying to do all the math and putting a gallon of gas or two gallons of diesel not gas into it i now i went out and bought another five gallon diesel container that is at home that is filled with fuel ready to go into the tank into the container i take to the field with me right i'm doing a terrible job of

[01:07:18] Explaining this i'm sorry so i'm just trying to do the math and so you have to top off the one that

[01:07:22] You leave at home no you still have to do the math you don't have to top off the one you leave at home when that is empty you will have four gallons five gallons whatever in the container you take with you to the field it's like a reserve whatever works for you it's like i wish i could explain it

[01:07:41] So you it's like a reserve tank you're putting three gallons back into your transporter tub there you go which leaves you two gallons at home mm-hmm but you're and so then next time you want to

[01:07:52] Pop that off next time you don't have enough to go well but next time when you go to fly then you have five gallons and let's say you use another three gallons okay so you come home with two gallons in the container you take to the field with you and then you have two gallons at home and your your storage tank you fill that in there so now your storage tank is empty you might only have four gallons in your main tank then you can go fill your five gallon storage tank get it all mixed up right and then add that to the tank you take to the field i'm tracking that's working a little

[01:08:25] Bit better yeah but yeah i don't know how to describe it very like it's so simple in my head

[01:08:29] But i cannot get the words i pass a lot of gas stations on the way to the field if i'm low on fuel i'll just if it's three gallons and it's one quart per five gallons then i know i need two fifths of a quart to put two gallons i don't think you're going to do that you don't think i'm going to do that i don't i could save myself 75 bucks or whatever for a jug of whatever yeah i'll do that 75 bucks for a jug of what well you have another jug set up at the house oh not with the pump and

[01:08:54] Stuff no not with the pump and stuff it was a 16 dollar gas or diesel can that i bought at menards

[01:08:59] I guess yeah i see that just you're trading one trip now for one trip later just so i can always

[01:09:05] Do full five gallons to one for the mix yes and the other reason that's easier too is when you buy the gallon oh by the way i had to buy more king tech oil do how much that is i do yeah two gallons 120 bucks yeah two gallons of oil which will make 40 gallons of flying where are you buying it from king tech okay free shipping even okay that's the normal price okay and that's what king tech recommends for the king tech turbines but anyway they do when

[01:09:41] I lost my train i thought what i was talking about before fuel drugs yeah i thought i was past that oh oh no so when you're refilling it you have one gallon of the the fuel oil yeah so it's so much easier because it has the lines on the side that show you one quart delineation on the side of that so when you're pouring that in you don't have to measure anything you can just use the jug that it came in to tell you how much you have so it's so much easier to do it that way you were looking on your phone like you're trying to find a better deal on

[01:10:11] It well i just i hope you can like i don't think you will yeah you're probably right so the way i did i did end up doing the the math on this so two gallons of king tech or king tech oil is 120 bucks that's enough to make technically 42 gallons of fuel because you're mixing it with 40 gallons of gas each flight is about a half gallon so that means each flight is about three bucks cheap entertainment

[01:10:51] I'm about cheap but it's definitely worthwhile so it's this stuff you're fine right yep well mine's red well that's king tech oil stuff i bought was red now you're going to make me look and make sure

[01:11:04] I bought the right stuff king king tech v3 turbine oil two gallons fully synthetic with recycled petroleum 115 115 115 for three gallons for two gallons two gallons 115 it's right there hold on because

[01:11:20] Mine has that's off boomerang i just got mine that said it shipped from king tech so either way problem i don't have yeah red dyed not remember why or what they said on that one but yeah there's that right there two gallons 120.

[01:11:38] Maybe i need to ask somebody about the red dye one if anybody knows let me know what the difference between the red dyed oil and the other stuff that's not red is and apparently yeah i don't know what the red dye is for either i'll have to look that up afterwards but anyway no matter what you're yeah that's 500 difference between them yeah right yep so i mean it is what it is and you're gonna be around the bigger turbine than i am yeah that one what's that that's the 102 yeah the g5 and g5

[01:12:14] Well i can't say that yeah because i haven't that's true so cool can't wait for you to get in stock too anyway they might be one lower before too long in stock wouldn't that be nice i would if it was on

[01:12:29] Its way here okay well that's all i had what do you guys yeah i'm very excited i can't wait to see it fly i still have not seen it fly i mean all the all the flights you have on it i still haven't witnessed yeah we'll get over there again soon yep i'm off this weekend just saying

[01:12:46] I have a lot to do this weekend so this weekend is bad well i'm gonna fly something somewhere this

[01:12:52] Weekend maybe tomorrow we'll see yeah we'll see i might maiden the beast tomorrow i don't know let's hope so i'll say that's been a while yeah i'd like to it's been ready for months yeah a couple months now a while yeah so maybe we'll see what the weather's like and see how the

[01:13:10] The work goes on the card tomorrow we'll see what tomorrow brings if you do that maybe i can meet you out there for some late evening night flying so honestly i would prefer nobody to be there when i when i made it but no i fully understand that but i'm saying by the time you get out there hopefully the maiden will be done yeah because i'm busy tomorrow night till at least 6 30. wow have it if i'm going to fly that's my point way done before then that's why i said late

[01:13:38] Evening slash night hopefully i'll have all the pieces picked up by then take a trash bag yeah or

[01:13:44] Two it's a big plane it's a big plane yeah i might need two dave i hope not a backpack to take the engine

[01:13:51] Home in yeah it's a big engine nice but yeah that's all i got i'm really super super happy for the that the maiden and all that went well me too yeah that's and your waiver is practically done that's a load that's a load off well you are you're done yeah just waiting for the signature

[01:14:08] Right no i gotta send it in now oh yeah that's awesome i know you can be one of the signatories

[01:14:15] On mine maybe i said maybe maybe i said maybe we'll see if you're not comfortable then i'll find someone else we'll see get it done then we'll talk well i gotta do that first right yeah so anything else no that's all i got no thank you for the ornament i love it you're welcome it will hang on my tree

[01:14:31] With pride i actually like that one i thought i would do they have more you should get one i mean

[01:14:38] Well i don't have that plane though no that's what i'm talking about you should get the airplane if they've got more well they do but i don't need another one of those okay it's a bigger plane i know you like the tiny planes you can fly here although i like the bigger plane i think this one would i would probably fly this this here well yeah i thought i would certainly fly the kingfisher and it's not

[01:14:57] Very much smaller than that i fly the slow ultra stick here all the time and that's a little faster but not by much yeah not by much yeah okay well thank you everybody for listening this has been fun yeah it's nice to be back it's good yeah it's good to be all together again for now mr guys yeah i

[01:15:15] Missed you too love you guys inside jokes you want to tell him about that text yeah i'll tell him so yeah i did something stupid today before and how's that different from any other day well that's true he's not wrong i do something stupid at least once every day so today's stupid move was so not not to make this go on and on but my dog has been sick and like last night we were up late and i didn't get a lot of sleep so i wasn't really with it today like i wasn't a hundred

[01:15:48] Percent today so i'm sitting at my computer and i've got facebook open and i get i can't do i can't have my phone so this is at work yeah at work i cannot have my phone where i work we're not allowed to have our phones back in the area where i work so i open facebook on my computer so i can communicate with people that i communicate with like my wife and you and whoever else is on facebook messenger so i had about three or four chat windows open and and i don't remember what time

[01:16:18] It was like i said i wasn't i wasn't really sure 8 22 22 this morning and i got a chat window open with obviously lori and i was thinking i haven't told her i loved her in a while i'll just send her a quick little text i love you on yeah well i sent that in your chat window ron so i told ron that i loved him today i saw that bless his heart he he could have taken the opportunity to really really really make me look like an idiot and his reply was the best love you

[01:16:51] Too man which as soon as i saw the man i was like wait oh crap i figured that would give it away it did it did like if you had just replied back like i love you i probably would have continued that conversation oh that could have been great oh hey what do you want to do tonight yeah oh yeah yeah you could have which is why i was so thankful that that you clued me in right away could have asked him to pick up a pizza or something on the way home right yeah exactly which i probably

[01:17:23] Would have that's funny so anyway yeah that was the stupid thing so be mindful of who you send your chats and texts to luckily it was just something as innocuous as that but

[01:17:36] Oh i would have preferred something else i guess then if there's more to hold it over your head for

[01:17:40] The rest of your life yeah yeah remember that picture you sent me oh my gosh well good thing i can't have my phone back there because yeah i probably would send pictures oh okay well on that note yeah

[01:17:52] Thank you everybody for listening until next time i'm ron i'm tom and i'm dave to you guys
