[00:00:11] Hello everyone and welcome to the rc plane lab podcast i'm ron and i'm tom and i'm dave gentlemen sir hi hi so i think we're all tired no not you yeah i'm tired tired it's been a rough week tough couple weeks it's been some fun though we have had fun we did get to go fly got some good things to talk about and some other good things to talk about i guess i don't know it's all good things it's all stuff you guys want to hear yes well you said yeah hopefully and if they don't
[00:00:52] They're gonna hear it anyway or turn it off or turn it off send your complaints too yeah not me
[00:00:57] Anymore i got one by the way ironically oh really said that yeah so we'll talk about that okay right now oh had a complaint about the amount of commercials oh that we have one thing that
[00:01:09] We really did have no control over well that's not true really we do oh do we and i change it
[00:01:16] Ah well okay so let's a little behind the scenes okay action so because i'm gonna learn too because i really know nothing about what goes on behind the scenes when i upload an episode the ad time slots are automatically inserted by our podcast host which that is true i have no control over where they put them once it goes in i have to go and delete the ones that i don't want and then i can put them at certain positions where we want them there are times because we so we are to the point
[00:01:51] Where we record thursdays and we release the next day that's kind of the what we've fallen into which
[00:01:56] I think works out fine it's okay yeah doesn't leave a lot of time for editing well yeah you get other
[00:02:03] Stuff at this point you get what you get right because i don't edit anymore i still run through scrubbers and stuff for audio and all that but that doesn't matter when i upload it there are times i upload it and i go to bed and forget because it takes some time to to process and all that stuff and there are times i forget to go and do the commercial thing i think that's happened two or three times that i remember okay when i remember i go back and take care of it so then people that download from that time on don't have all of the commercials gotcha so i forgot apparently this
[00:02:39] Last time and i got called out on a very not nice email about too many commercials i will no longer be listening blah blah blah blah blah okay sorry i mean it is what it is yeah this costs us money
[00:02:54] Yeah we're still not we're still not making no we're not and that really kind of is not the point i mean and it's not at this point we do it because we enjoy it we do enjoy it but it would be
[00:03:05] Nice to have it pay for itself it would so that's all i'm saying so so that's why you guys get commercials hopefully sorry about the commercials hopefully if i remember it's only one or two during the hour and a half it seems like where you've been doing now episodes okay today's probably going to be shorter because i don't have a lot to talk about i don't know about you guys well we have some stuff to talk about okay yeah we spent three minutes on a complaint well there's some new stuff
[00:03:29] That was announced and some other new ish stuff that we're going to talk about so yeah sorry we'll
[00:03:35] Try better no i mean i'll yeah i'll try to take them out when i can but if i forget i forget and just know that's why and if you really don't like the commercials and want commercial free how do you do that tommy well you you can be a patron there is no minimum cost we don't have tiers set up we don't have anything like that it's just a simple we like what you guys do here's a buck thousand dollars a month whatever it is so yeah yeah sorry about that that's all i wanted to say on that well
[00:04:03] He's not listening anymore so there's no well to to any any other of the three listeners that we have that are also bothered by the bothered by the commercials i apologize but yeah it is what
[00:04:15] It is so and i don't know if it's just my own thoughts or how this is working but when i listen to different on different platforms it seems like there may be more or less commercials it seems like when i listen to iheart radio which is my preferred it seems like there's less commercials oh then maybe
[00:04:32] They're adding that i don't know so maybe maybe we should look into that i'm not going to i was
[00:04:38] Gonna say like i said it might be just in my own head but yeah that's what i seem to see i mean
[00:04:42] And it's possible like i don't have control over all the aggregators that pick us up and all that stuff right where people download from so once again the only place i can tell you to have no commercials for sure is through patreon that's right and we usually try and release a little bit early on patreon we do by a little bit early now it seems to be like an hour minutes
[00:05:02] 30 seconds about the time it takes for you to listen to all those commercials it used to be
[00:05:07] To get it there you go it used to be that we would do a day or two early when we recorded a lot
[00:05:10] Earlier but we don't anymore yeah and that's okay and who knows maybe we'll get back to it once
[00:05:16] Things settle down who knows i don't know i kind of like this though i mean like yeah it seems to
[00:05:23] Work for us so i don't see yeah i like the current setup so that's probably how it's gonna stay yeah
[00:05:29] Okay okay so now let's go on to happier things yeah one thing i saw a while ago that i wanted to talk about that i forgot until i went back to look today to see if it had been released yet which it has not it's going to be august pilot rc is coming out with a auto start for the dle 55 ra nice why am
[00:05:51] I excited about that you ask well i know why why is that because you happen to have a dle 55 ra that needs that's neat that would be really slick with an auto start yeah so i actually already bought an auto
[00:06:03] Auto start for it i did buy the wrong size which is on me and that's okay and i thought about i bought for the 35 yeah oopsies but i thought about buying the bigger one to put on there but then i started looking at it i would have to cut the cheeks off of the and this is the 12 foot telemaster we're talking about i'd have to cut the cheeks or cheeks off in order to have it fit yeah and that would look ugly it would look weird so this one that pilot's coming out with from all the pictures and the youtube videos and stuff i saw on it it's in line it's no wider than
[00:06:38] The motor itself yeah i like that that's gonna be perfect that's purple slide right in there yeah
[00:06:43] Purple i don't know about i mean it's cool color but there's no purple on there well the blue and red kind of make it look purple yeah from a distance it will look purple so there you go good enough so yeah i don't know pricing yet i'm hoping it's not going to be ridiculous it's
[00:06:58] Probably going to be ridiculous but it's still a cool little feature worthwhile so yeah pilot it could be almost like a motor glider at that point i never thought about what i mean yeah catch maybe some some thermals with that huge wing and shut the engine off with my luck i'd go to
[00:07:15] Restart it it wouldn't start wouldn't start or something stupid but one of the things i said too though is that the controller for it because it's brushless which is i mean like the one that i had before is brushed and it's just a plane so it has an extra battery and then it's just a simple relay that you can can that you can control just an off button right so this being an actual whoops brushless motor i don't know what all is going to be in it but it says it has a kill built into it and then it's bought or it's ran off the same battery as your yeah that's handy
[00:07:50] So yeah that's cool well and we all know you'll have plenty of battery i do have i'm pretty sure the battery in my truck is smaller okay anyway moving on 15 000 and i'm not exaggerating no you are
[00:08:03] No i'm not you are because it's only 10 000 for the actual flight surfaces there's 5 000 but there's 15 15 000 milliamps of battery power that are going to be in the 12 foot telemaster still missing what your point is it's a lot of battery that's all i'm saying it's not that much i probably ought to double that up 47 47 is not that anyway so yes moving on oh moving on okay there are a couple actually
[00:08:36] In the last two weeks has no it's been a little over two weeks since we recorded last time hasn't it no it was two no it was actually just two weeks today so a lot has come out yeah from horizon in that amount of time pretty exciting two airplanes and spectrum had a big update huge all of us update air users more so everybody else other than me with my radio but that's okay yeah that's true i got the shaft i didn't get an update that's because yours is from 1986 and it works just fine okay
[00:09:08] Anyway we'll talk about that in a little bit so two airplanes came out yeah yeah i'm really excited so
[00:09:15] They finally released details and pictures of the 20 cc size i think this was like one of the worst kept secrets yeah i mean i've known about it for at least a couple months yeah more than that but no it looks it looks really good horizon announced it on facebook and instantly it seemed like people were a lot of heartburn over the price which don't get me wrong
[00:09:46] For the for the fully equipped one twenty one hundred dollars that is a lot of money at one time
[00:09:51] However at one time however well hold on let's let's start with the arf okay what is just the arf i think
[00:09:58] It's like 15.99 15.99 yeah which includes the gear yeah includes the retractable control yeah exactly i don't think that's bad i don't i don't either considering i mean it's 94 inches is that what i read somewhere i thought 84 84 84 excuse me yeah yes 84 inches that's a big airplane it is i mean maybe not by like hugo gigantic standards or whatever but that's still it's still a good size airplane and even for an arf of this size
[00:10:34] 15.99 is really kind of not out of that not that out of line yeah and then to get the gear and the controller with it i mean i think that's i think that's pretty fair and it's a good scheme i like yeah it's a cal the cal aero scheme the firefighter scheme red and white should show up nice in the sky it's not the it's not the weathered look which i appreciated they they left it kind of bright and clean yeah which i like i do too but no it looks it looks really good i'm i'm still not sure if i'm prepared to buy one oh i'm definitely not prepared to buy one right now
[00:11:09] Because yeah that's the same with me but even even later on this one is more palatable to go electric than the big one yeah because we're down to 6s batteries which are slightly more reasonable single battery and a single battery exactly like you said so and and the 21.99 price i with avian electronics and the gear and all that i don't think that's honestly all that bad so what comes what are there's three levels 15.99 is just the arf so 15.99 yeah that's the arf
[00:11:43] You've got these pages all out of order 14.99 excuse me 14.99 for the arf 17.99 with the avian motors and speed controllers and then 20 basically 2100 bucks gets you the the servos plus all that stuff so does it say how many servos i don't remember how many it takes a lot it does nine that's a lot of servos yeah well actually i take that back it's 10
[00:12:15] 10 servos that's even more than nine yeah the the 2100 price gets you all of the electronics gets you nine of the 6380 servos plus a 6330 which is i'm sure for the steering probably yep exactly and the landing gear and then 100 amp speed controls yeah times two the nice yeah they're nice avian outrunner motors so i don't know 20 2100 bucks for for all that stuff and all you have to do is put in a receiver and a battery that's really not all that out of line well yeah
[00:12:52] Okay yeah i mean that's yeah all the hard stuff is included exactly so yeah i like it a lot i'm really excited about it it's gonna be a while but if i get a bronco it'll be this one not the big one just i mean just because it's half price just because honestly it's more because by the time you
[00:13:11] Look at all the yeah gear and stuff that comes with it to buy the bigger one yeah if you want to go
[00:13:16] It's gonna be more than your jet yeah exactly it would have been over yeah would definitely have been more than than my jet by at least a little and a lot easier to store and a lot easier to store and transport the bronco you're you're saying yeah yeah but if you want to go gas 20 cc's which are by all accounts somewhat more inexpensive inexpensive than budget from a pair of 35 ra's for example so yeah by you save yourself several hundred bucks
[00:13:49] That way and then about half by just going to slightly smaller and it's still a big airplane so i think it'll fly well i can't wait to see one like actually see in person yeah so i agree yep so that's new can't wait to see one of those at the field are you gonna get one i no i can't right now
[00:14:09] I have no room i mean eventually the room is this part at this point oh i understand like i'm out of room okay if i can get rid of some airplanes that i don't want to get rid of because i'm there's not a lot i want to get rid of at this point yeah maybe i understand but we'll see okay
[00:14:25] Yeah so anyway i encourage you all to go out and check this out because i think it's pretty slick and that was just released today today yeah it's brand new well the information is brand new today
[00:14:37] Officially public yeah today i guess neat what else what else dave so i got umx me 262 that's a it's pretty cool too i was so close on that one oh i was so close as well as i was pulling it up it's like oh crud the oh crud is when he saw the price i think yeah i've got a
[00:14:59] Price limit on umx and this yeah needed it i get that but it's two motors it's two motors two speed controls and i bought my one a10 for i mean with a little bit of with a little bit of tinkering you could go like adverse thrust or differential thrust and you could do some neat stuff with it
[00:15:18] Maybe probably i don't know it depends on the board hardwired yeah oh but with the a10 when did you buy
[00:15:26] That when it first came out however long ago that was that's the same one you have no oh no i had
[00:15:33] The one previous okay so how long ago is that roughly five years ago so what else can you buy for the same price five years ago as you can today i thought it was nothing nothing so 165 to 200 bucks in five years i don't think is bad with the way prices have been going on stuff personally well this
[00:15:59] One has a clear canopy though this one has a clear i was so so happy what it's a that's cool no that's good clear canopy is great because if it was painted that would be a definite no yeah it's a big no yeah i've lost my mic it's dropped let's keep falling just a second better yeah that sounds better yeah all right so yep this is the umx me 262 30 millimeter edf jet with basic which they're always
[00:16:31] Basic there's never a plus yeah i don't know what the bnf basic means anyway with as3x and safe select but it's got launch mode in that's nice that's pretty slick yes so hand launch because yes yeah i know really nice ron knows too and it's 660 millimeters so that's that's a good
[00:16:53] Size for her that's i don't know what that means anymore give me inches dave i don't speak
[00:17:00] Millimeters ron said i don't know how big 660 is in my head but i can't tell you here just a second
[00:17:05] Well one meter which would be a thousand is almost three feet by two i thought it was like 39 inches no
[00:17:12] Oh baby 25.98 so 26 inches that's actually a good like the umx planes are growing yeah that's like you
[00:17:20] Know what's a what's a umx a10 i'm asking questions i have nothing in my phone's way over
[00:17:26] There you have to look it up yeah hey hold on you keep talking i keep talking head over here dave
[00:17:33] Keep the show going ron's gonna go look up one of my glasses i'll second read this i'm there with you how the heck do we get anything accomplished it's like it says we do comes with four linear servos so they're still keeping with those linears yeah speaking of linear servers i'm gonna have to replace the ones in my umx yours are like gear slop all over i'm pretty sure that's from flying it on the beach down in florida get that sand in there standard way the teeth but man did i have fun with
[00:18:01] That anyway sorry that's the gears on your or your umx ultrax you got to tell people what
[00:18:08] You're talking about right i did did you say it yeah i wasn't listening i was looking at this sorry two spectrum brushless outrunner motors and these are the same ones they're using in the a10 i'm supposing i would think so and those work really nice they are very fast that's a fast airplane i like that one you didn't like that one at first i didn't i do now it does have two brushless escs i wonder if it can be see i'm telling you it might be able to be hacked a little yeah a little tinkering
[00:18:38] Get some advert or differential thrust and make it jailbreak it yeah do some cool flat spins
[00:18:44] Oh a 262 and a flat spin that'd be slick i think that would be awesome
[00:18:50] So what did you say that was how big 20 what 600 and something five inches i think 25.9 inches so the a10 is 22.1 inches 562 millimeters that's bigger so see if you go by price per inch it's about right it's about right and by the way the a10 is 179.99 that's
[00:19:12] More reasonable but i mean yeah anything lower would be more looking at it and it it does look really good it has yeah it has a really good paint scheme is really nice on it yeah it's missing the swastikas but that's okay that's all right that's easy enough to make sorry i'm authenticity it's got a nice flat coat a little weathering on that that would look pretty sure it would look very it
[00:19:35] Looks very good by itself but with a little bit of work it even has the skids on the bottom of the
[00:19:39] Plastic on the bottom so that's nice finally so somebody was thinking yeah yeah so good job brian if you're listening really really like this i'll have to pick one up second hand
[00:19:55] Maybe by did you guys speaking of deals and picking up stuff second did you guys by any chance take advantage of the 12 christmas days of summer whatever it was horizon was putting on they didn't have anything on that sale that i wanted yeah but they did have well i guess that was just their
[00:20:13] Summer deal that was their summer sale yes but i did buy the air tractor yeah and i was so close but i couldn't pull the trigger on the big a10 oh was it after 60 bucks off oh it was like 369 yeah honestly like i'm not gonna lie i've been kind of watching my money knowing that the bronco was going to be coming out but i was expecting actually a little bit
[00:20:39] Smaller really i was are you disappointed that it's not smaller probably not because i know i'm
[00:20:44] Not going to buy it right now if it would have been if you go much smaller then you got the flight
[00:20:50] Line one or free wing or who are me yeah oh that's right yeah they do have one but is that foam or balsa
[00:20:55] It's foam it's foam yeah see that's what i like about the hanger 9 being balsa me too i was thinking it was more of that size and i was thinking like out the door less than a grand would have been where i was but i'm happy that i'm not spending that so maybe i will go buy the a10 who knows yeah
[00:21:14] Except i don't have room dang it see there you go back to the no room thing a10s are cool though a10s are cool all right i digress so me 262 yeah i like i if i was gonna buy a new umx that's what it would be right now really yeah i would buy the 262 if i if i was buying a umx right now which as we all know i'm not buying anything right now except jet stuff but jet stuff yeah that even with the good deals that they were having on the 12 days of summer
[00:21:45] What a deal whatever was on their summer scissors like all the stuff that they like of all of that stuff none of that enticed me enough to buy it but the me 262 it's just at that price point where yeah 200 bucks i can delay buying servos for my jet for another month or whatever what i mean
[00:22:05] So what about like obviously you didn't buy the air tractor but you have flown the air tractor i almost
[00:22:11] Bought the air tractor when it was at the same deal yeah after flying yours that's how much i like flying
[00:22:16] Gears yeah we can talk about that even though it's gearless so i was gonna say we can talk about that in a minute because it comes to peer pressure but that's not yeah it's not gearless anymore no it's been fixed he's repaired it it's been fixed and flown and i gotta tell you i like it gear well you should tell the story so we're gonna okay so yeah i'm gonna talk about it yet but oh i'm sorry do you want to wait no i just want to make sure we hit stuff because i don't know that's okay okay so we ended up going well the day i got it actually now was the day i got that i flew to
[00:22:48] The field no you got it you flew it here so the day i got it within 10 minutes because i knew it was coming i had batteries charged and stuff within like 10 minutes i got home saw it took it out of the box really liked it went out back here and and flew its maiden it is probably the best flying umx airplane that i have flown they just keep getting better and better i mean i don't want to put it on too high of a pedestal no it flies but it flies great it's got a little bit higher wing loading
[00:23:19] Than like the umx turbo timber evolution i'd slow it down yeah so it just it handles really well it's fast like it's it is so much faster than i was expecting yeah it's a lot of fun and it has it has a whistle to it i don't know what makes it whistle but the whistle makes you want to fly at full
[00:23:40] Throttle all the whole time yeah just to whistle with the gear on it yeah oh yeah because it
[00:23:46] Whistled the first time so like i said i think i got three flights in at home was very happy with it i had flown it obviously by the time i went out to the field was that the first flight at the field yes okay it was the first flight first flight at the field for that tommy decides to goad me into
[00:24:09] Well just it didn't take much goading i was surprised i didn't think it through i said no at first so there was a you said no as you were carrying it towards the table oh i wanted to look so we have used
[00:24:24] The tables out of the field to like take off with a slow ultra stick yeah and it worked fine works perfect t28 there's a video of that somewhere yeah and so tommy said we'll take off from the the table to which i said no i don't want to hit the fence that's in front of the table and i i mean i don't know what happened i i dumbed it i did something full throttle right off the table what
[00:24:57] Do i do i hit the fence and just knocked the gear clean out clean i mean like perfectly just knocked them off didn't hit the propeller so it was perfect height completely missed the propeller it just didn't quite have enough lift to get that the the butt end down to where i could get more pull more of an angle out of it yeah so yeah knock the gear clean out so i flew yeah you finished the flight flights i think that whole day yeah flew really good with the gear off yeah with no gear
[00:25:28] And it's kind of fun without gear like i'm gonna be honest so yeah i gave it a peer pressure
[00:25:34] Well here here was my thought like when i when i first suggested flying off the table it was it was not meant as a challenge the the i mean for umx it has big big tires but we're flying off of a grass field and i didn't divots yeah and i didn't think it would probably take off very well in the grass and i thought oh we'll just just take off the table this thing's probably got and then it was like oh yeah take off the table ron take yeah use the table and then it was a challenge and it
[00:26:06] Would have been fine but at first it was out of concern for not being able to take off in the grass
[00:26:10] If i'm honest oh that's fine and i didn't even plan on trying to take off in the grass it was just going to be a toss it that's how i did it here i mean so i got the safe select toss thing built into it i don't think so even if it does it doesn't need it i mean like it's so yeah overpowered yeah that airplane it'll it'll do vertical unlimited vertical i mean it's just on 3s it is very overpowered which is fun to fly good yeah yeah and the whistle is super cool yeah
[00:26:42] I'm pretty sure the whistle are the servo covers like you pointed out because they have holes like
[00:26:46] In the front which surprise like i don't understand that like any of the other umx servo covers i have seen have been closed in the front the little bulb has been completely enclosed that keeps stuff out
[00:26:57] I wonder if it's for cooling to keep the servos cool i don't know it's a good question i don't know but
[00:27:02] That is by far at this point my favorite umx airplane it is fun to fly that's for sure it looks good it i mean it really it slows down extremely well has functional flaps all that kind of stuff on it good airplane a lot of fun but i would without but i would buy the me 262 right now
[00:27:23] If i was going to buy a umx well yeah because i have that because you have the tractor that i can fly yeah i would fly that one if you bought it would you good to know yeah i'm looking at some airbrush
[00:27:37] And chalk work yeah that would be slick yeah it's too much work i mean like it's fine just to fly it
[00:27:43] As is no it's a good looking airplane just just out of the box but yeah i think a little weathering would would really kind of bring it to life yeah that shiny paint toy look yeah good airplane so yeah do you want to talk about flying then or is that next on the agenda what's next yeah we can talk about that so that's the new stuff that yeah that kind of finishes off the new stuff for
[00:28:05] The last couple weeks and i've not seen any new announcements from any other companies like i haven't either i know it seems like we talk about horizon all the time but they're the ones that seem to be coming out with new airplanes yeah yeah i mean we notices anything that i typically watch we talked about the hobby king pc9 when that came out oh hobby king got their new racer which i mean
[00:28:27] We all know about it but it looks like it's up for sale now the ef extra is that the one you're talking about it's like that oh man i should have looked it up it's like the little for self racer thing that you got that you bought little kind of mustang looking thing but it's not oh the like the v900 yeah kind of oh yeah their version of that yeah i think that's i think that's up on their website
[00:28:50] Now it's for sale nice because they've been out of stock for a while right well they got the new version out oh okay well that's okay why they're out of stock yeah yeah yeah i think it's called the ef
[00:29:01] Extra i think i think is what it's called no i don't see it but sorry i did not do any show prep that's all right but anyway yeah so flying yes one thing i wanted to talk about dave's slow ultra stick mods oh wow what a difference oh my gosh yes you need to do that to yours i plan on doing it so we all have exception of tommy because whatever we all have slow ultra sticks i'll get one eventually they are well i it's that is actually it's really
[00:29:34] Weird when we went to the field last time what you just have my mind just jumps and jumps probably adhd or add whatever it is but anyway so the last time i went out to the field first time i took the slow ultra stick with me and didn't fly it hmm well you had a lot going on that last round but still like i was surprised when i got home i was like oh i didn't do that one and that's one of your go-to's
[00:30:00] I know because it's just a fun easy flyer but anyway it's even more fun after dave's mod so dave
[00:30:06] Let's talk about everything you've done to yours because you also did the the dual aileron setup which i bought the servo and stuff for that i just haven't done yet so let's talk about the
[00:30:15] Differences and how they fly with that and what you did i when i first got it i never even flew it with the single aileron setup i saw that it had the holes for two so we went and set that up the flap works really well i only use half flap i i don't it doesn't do much more in full flap it gets it seems like it gets a little unsettled with full flap now the problem with what i've got going because i fly an older radio and i can't do anything about it
[00:30:46] The as3x only operates one aileron so it's a little sluggish when it comes to correcting for wind and so forth i know you say yours flies great in the wind my experience with any wind mine doesn't fly so great i've flown mine and i think like 28 mile an hour gusts yeah yeah and i wouldn't even think about flying mine that and i do apologize for my voice i've lost it this afternoon sorry guys
[00:31:08] Me too i'm a little under but that's okay you guys sound fine to me the flap though
[00:31:15] Modification in my throat by the way in no wind conditions the thing crawls oh yeah yeah yeah just it will not stall either no it kind of sits and wing wags a little bit but it it just mushes it just mushes and wobbles its wings yeah i mean like i'm pretty sure
[00:31:34] That you could with with the dual aileron mod and then the other mod that you're getting ready to talk about you could set that up in a stall and just let it float all the way down and it would land
[00:31:44] With no trouble with the new mod i'm not even using the flaps yeah because it won't land yeah so what's the other mod the other mod and it's it's a got to in fact it should have came from the factory this way and it would not have cost him a penny swap the electronic speed control mount with the battery mount when it comes from the factory the battery mount is a forward of the landing gear and the sc is immediately behind the landing gear with a 2200 three cell those two items switch
[00:32:17] Perfect oh yeah yeah much much snappier and still plenty rock solid yeah not not twitchy in the least i didn't even change my throws or expo on the elevator are those the same mounts there's they are the same mount so you don't even have to unscrew anything well they've glued some velcro or something to the sc mount which you can do to the so yeah i guess you could pry it off there and glue it onto the oh okay i see what you're saying it's just easier it's literally just a few screws and
[00:32:50] Sliding stuff around a big deal 10 minutes of time yeah if that okay it took me longer to find the right screwdriver because they got oddball size screw screwdrivers in it but yeah it should come out of the box that way yeah putting the battery immediately behind the landing gear is dead-on perfect and what
[00:33:09] Kind of got us thinking along those lines is that journal we can't do an episode without talking about journal so we saw was it miguel no luca oh luca flew his his battery was pretty much back by the tail i mean like it was i'm exaggerating but it was like as far back as the battery lead would allow him like i think it was not completely under the wing yeah and he didn't seem to have any no granted it's luca bowman but so that kind of got us all thinking hey maybe the cg could shift
[00:33:45] Aft a little bit and still be okay and i think you could probably even go farther back and i think it
[00:33:49] Can but i it's really it's really fun to fly yeah with that aft cg like that it's such a good flying
[00:33:56] And like i said it like it's still super super stable if not more stable it is more stable the glide
[00:34:03] Yeah i mean it glides forever yeah without any elevator yeah so if you guys have one of those e-flight
[00:34:09] Slow ultra sticks highly recommend swap the esc and battery mounts you'll be much happier and you need to buy one i will would you get off me i will buy one eventually someday one more mod all the rudder
[00:34:25] Throw you can get out of the thing oh yeah okay i tend to do that with all my airplanes anyway i think i'm gonna beef up the rod back there put a piece of carbon fiber on it because it flexes yeah i remember you saying that when you were flying it washes out when i turn i can't remember which way it is but yeah it definitely turns sharper one direction then you could just put a piece of carbon over the rod yeah okay cool and one more thing i'm going to do to it is cut off part of those wing bolts there is no reason i know i don't know why those are eight times longer than they need to be
[00:34:58] So yeah those are going to undergo the dremel real soon it's so you can put the airplane on the ground
[00:35:02] And you can screw the wing on without bending over at least get it started that way yeah those are
[00:35:09] They're pretty long they're yeah yeah ungodly long so so i was ready to get rid of it it was so boring i didn't care for the airplane yeah i was hoping you were going i was going to get it sadly no yeah the cg change made all the difference yeah i'm not surprising and inverted flat spins are
[00:35:28] Oh yeah they're awesome it's it's way more for lack of a better word unhappy upside down than right side up it's much more aerobatic but it's still so totally solid oh yeah for sure i was doing very very like dave let me fly it i was doing very very short inverted loops not loops but circles racetrack pattern above the field at like 25 feet inverted comfortably that's how well it wasn't
[00:35:58] Your plane so well i mean it would be even less comfortable normally i get it yeah i
[00:36:03] Think it'd be someone else's but i get the receiver reprogrammed for the as3x i'll be even happier yep yeah just borrowing a radio that's capable of doing that well ron's got one mm-hmm so did tommy
[00:36:15] Which we'll talk later but you can upgrade that to the new as3x plus also oh yeah that's right that's
[00:36:21] The other new things we're going to talk about sorry that's right we'll get to it okay i'm just
[00:36:25] Saying you can actually get the whole new setup which is kind of cool so yeah big happy with there mm-hmm yeah so it was a it was a good day of flying and you also tommy got another airplane oh
[00:36:39] Yeah i got a i got a night radian yeah thanks dave yeah no problem yeah flies awesome well now it took me a while to get it trimmed i'm not sure why i was having such trouble with it but it flies beautifully now so it was not one of my favorites yeah i it flies like yours does now yeah which is hands off without throttle trim it yep trim it with the throttle off and it just sits there and putts
[00:37:02] Along it's and the lights are cool yeah yeah yeah we yours has the wing nut tech light controller and it also that dave put in for you yep yep thanks dave
[00:37:14] They do look really good with it like all the different shows you can play with them yeah
[00:37:19] They're pretty cool i found the easiest one for me to see though is just the simple wing lights that are green and red oh and no other lights with no other lights on and then just the the flashing lights yeah and then the headlights and tail lights but then just the
[00:37:36] Flashing nav lights on the wings too yeah that's probably although like i said i said mine have to just be solid red yeah plus the red and green on tips and that was that was pretty easy to see i like the cylon one where the red went back and forth yeah i know i like that one too but in certain positions it disappeared it's like i wish i had a little more light oh you still
[00:37:58] Need to put the the headlights and tail lights and that'll make a big difference yeah it's got to
[00:38:03] Have some sort of leading edge light because i mean it just completely disappears it does and with certain curled up like they are they disappear yep so but yeah i got a new to me airplane
[00:38:14] Made and the double vision i guess we haven't really talked much about the beast either no we
[00:38:20] Have that's that's on my list of things for you to talk about too so what do you want to go for
[00:38:24] First well we did a lot of maidens we did well so the week before the week of maidens if i could say that i took the beast out all by myself i didn't because well laurie was there but well yeah she was there but anyway i yeah i didn't want to crowd because i to be honest i mean this airplane was i mean i don't want to say rebuilt but it was pretty much rebuilt like i would i would say and i had concerns about the the gear because there was just not a lot of material
[00:39:00] In the fuselage left to work with so i was a little bit worried about my gear repair but in the end it was fine it's it's got four three or four flights on three three flights on it now the maiden the actual or would that be a remade either way it's a maiden to you so was very exciting exciting yeah so why was that tommy well do tell it's because i
[00:39:30] Did not do a proper a proper pre-flight and by proper pre-flight i mean stand behind the airplane go through all the controls and make sure they're going the correct directions gonna argue with you
[00:39:43] On that one you can still do a proper pre-flight without standing behind it yeah but it's easier
[00:39:48] To get confused if you're standing in front of it like i did understood so i decided so i i got the airplane fueled up put together fueled up i fired it up fired right up by the way a dla 111 and i had it on the hold back device and i thought okay i'm gonna go and do a range check because we talked about this it's been a while back now when i decided that i was going to use the smaller batteries still using two batteries not just one like i originally wanted to but we
[00:40:20] Talked about doing a range check just to make sure which i did right so it's running it's idling against the stand i walked 30 paces whatever it is that spectrum says to do i put the transmitter in range check mode right it reduces power and i'm going through the controls and while now granted i'm kind of off into the side of the airplane right and there's four ailerons not just two
[00:40:46] So i'm off to the side 30 paces away kind of in front of it going through the controls and everything's responding fine the engine is not surging or anything like that i'm not getting any stray signals right it's the the range check is my focus and then while i'm there i'm like oh well i just do the pre-flight here while i'm standing here going through the stuff so i'm like yep right left up down yeah right or left right okay i'm good just just that quickly i went through the yeah and walked back to the airplane put the put the stand down and proceeded to taxi out and took off
[00:41:22] With the ailerons reversed huh yeah that would yeah and i knew immediately like as soon as the aircraft broke ground i wanted to do kind of a gentle left turn to get it out over the beans just in case anything happens yeah what i'm saying lose the motor or something right right because yeah that airplane eats up a lot of real estate pretty quick even though it's big and it looks like it's slow it's actually moving at a pretty good yeah rate so anyway as soon as it broke
[00:41:53] Ground i fed in a little bit of left aileron and it rolled to the right or it i shouldn't say rolled it sort of banked a little because i was going very easy on the controls first flight right yeah so right off the bat i knew the ailerons were reversed so knowing that right off the bat you can if you've been flying long enough you can kind of reprogram your brain to do everything the opposite on your right hand right if you've been doing it's hard it's not easy right but it's not it's not like
[00:42:25] Intuitive but it can be done obviously because i did it i made it i did two big loops with reversed ailerons just trying to figure out what i wanted to do did i want to try it on yourself down exactly do i want to try to reverse the ailerons while it's in the air or do i want to try to get it on the ground well i'm not sure if i have the skill to fly reversed ailerons all in a pattern and get it on the ground in front of me safely so i thought first thought is okay i'll get some altitude
[00:42:55] Altitude and then i'll i'll slow it down a little bit and then i'll i'll just hold the transmitter up high enough to where i can kind of look at the airplane and i can throw it scroll through the because you the airplane yes the ix 14 is really super easy to to get into that mode and reverse especially the 14 because it's so much faster than my 12 right so that's what i decided to do right well i i do that and i get one aileron reversed and then i'm like oh crap there's four ailerons i have this thing set up on four separate channels so that's four reversing switches that i'm going to
[00:43:29] Have to try to look at my menu and remember which one i've already and so by now i've hit two of them and i like even now i can't tell you which two i reversed but at some point i had all of the ailerons going the same direction so i'd move the stick to the right they would all go down i'd move the stick to the left they'd all go up or whatever so it's like okay well that's not going to work well so i it's getting kind of low because i'm fiddling with the reversing and stuff and when i
[00:44:02] Say kind of low it's 75 feet or so which is still pretty high but for an airplane that big out over the corn like a long ways from me that's a lot that's pretty low yeah so i'm at the point now where all four circles are going the same direction and i'm in a like a left hand bank kind of pointing down towards the corn and i'm like oh this ain't good so i holler at laurie i'm like laurie can we reverse these for me and of course she has no idea she's never even held my ix 14 she doesn't know
[00:44:35] What to do so then i'm like to myself i'm thinking well that's not going to work just look down real quick feed it some up elevator to get it going away from the ground look down real quick and see which two and i thought reverse and i got it back to being reversed right yeah and then i'm like okay so i'm not going to be able to reverse four channels while this thing is flying i'm just going to have to land it with reverse down runs and that's exactly what i did did you give yourself a nice long approach i absolutely did yeah in fact it was i mean it wasn't you could so we have trees and
[00:45:09] They're probably what 800 ish feet away to like if you're standing looking at the field i would say probably pretty close to that yeah it wasn't past them so i was at least inside those trees when i made the turn to final but not that was out there but yeah i wasn't that's reggie distances i know i know but i wanted to get it set up as close as i could to the center line of the runway right so i would have to make minimal corrections once i got it settled and the thing landed beautifully like it was a it was to the to the far edge of the field which is what you want yeah but not to the ditch like
[00:45:47] I still had plenty of room and it like it actually touched down like directly in front of me so yeah that was exciting so i he's a superman so i taxied it back shut it off took about 10 minutes to stop shaking because i was like oh lori thought i was having like a seizure or something my hands were shaking but yeah i settled down reversed the or corrected the ailerons and then took it up for another 15 ish minutes after that and flies great yeah yeah the landing gear repair held up now i
[00:46:22] Haven't i didn't i haven't bounced it or anything yet which i'm sure is coming but so far the gears hold up and my center wing mount structure held up to basic flight so from here i'll continue getting it trimmed and then i'll start testing the add a little stress here yeah
[00:46:44] I'll start testing the integrity of the wing mounting system by some snaps and things
[00:46:48] Like that but yeah it flies really good i'm really happy it looks oh my gosh it looks so nice in the air it does sounds good it does sound good because it's on pipes it's it doesn't have the factory mufflers it's got the the tuned pipes on it and it really it's it's nice and quiet you can hear the prop over the motor which is kind of cool i like the sound of the prop ripping through there i like that sound me too so yeah i'm very happy the beast cool lives nice so yeah and then the week after that was the night of maidens and we did a lot that night yeah all of us that's awesome that was
[00:47:22] A fun night it was a lot of fun yeah and no stress whatsoever like i didn't feel any no even with the
[00:47:29] Airplanes i flew that were different than normal yeah yes so what did you made well so i i did have an incident that i do not take as my fault so i i the tower harbor tower hobbies piper cherokee oh yeah that's not no that's not your fault so tricycle field tricycle airplane the our field even though the grass was cut fairly short is divity yeah there's lots of lots of divity yeah i don't
[00:48:06] Dead spots in it yeah yeah so smaller airplanes they have a little bit harder time which this is
[00:48:13] 44 maybe it's a pretty small wingspan yeah a 3s 2200 taxied it out and then went to take off you stop before you go you just kind of do one last check when you're lined up went to take off full throttle just sat there like oh come on so it had settled itself into a divot so i ended up going out moved it forward a foot or two and not in a divot and i didn't think it was going to take off like i don't remember if you were watching that or not but yeah full throttle and that thing
[00:48:44] Just took its time it was in no hurry whatsoever but i finally got it to break free yeah once i flew
[00:48:50] Once i got out of the grass it accelerated and yeah pretty good i thought it's a fun flying little
[00:48:55] Airplane that'll be really fun at eli yeah like no problems after i fix it now but yeah no problems with flight i need to add a little expo to it because it's a little twitchy but other than that i mean it flew great so i came in for my landing which i thought was a pretty nice looking landing nice approach nice touchdown as soon as the front wheel hit the ground it must have gotten caught in one of those wonderful divots and it flipped it over did a tricycle okay so that usually didn't happen
[00:49:28] With tricycles flipped over landed on the the the rudder didn't break anything on the airplane except for stripped the servo gears so i don't know if that happened when the rudder hit the ground or when probably then the front wheel hit the divot yeah because the flip over was so violent that it
[00:49:46] Actually got air under it and then it was landing speed like it didn't have a chance to slow down at all but yeah it was probably side loaded the rudder and well yeah when it came down against the rudder because the rudder's the tip well and like i said it could have very well been
[00:50:00] When the front nose wheel touched down because that's what stopped it like it was on the mains and then when the nose wheel touched down that's what flipped it if that hit a divot it could have just knocked that nose off to the side too and that might be messed up the gear caused it to flip too a nice little metal gear in there yeah well i mean it shouldn't have to have a metal gear
[00:50:22] For a plane like that this is unfortunately one of those things to where now i think small airplanes that have i'm our field sucks at this point i'm sorry the local field here i'm gonna be honest it's yeah it looks nice but ever since they tried to fix it it has just gotten eaten up and it's it's not it's not conducive to planes smaller than 40 size i agree yeah it's it's probably the roughest i've seen it
[00:50:55] For me ever so yep yeah larger planes don't have an issue but but like even the other plane one of the other planes that you made even it had a little bit of an issue taken off it just took
[00:51:08] Forever oh yeah so i talked about that one then so i flew the sorry no that's all right the the stinger 90 that i've had for a year or two now i finally got that all that thing flies awesome it flies really good i love that thing but i think the the nose gear on it like i don't know if it's too too light like if there's a spring missing if there's a way to tighten that up but is and maybe you think maybe it's the grass too like i don't know i guess i ought to try and just set
[00:51:40] It somewhere like maybe add eli on the actual field when these happens you need to shim the gear that's what i think needs to happen like where the gear is mounted put a quarter inch or something underneath the gear to raise the nose a little bit i think that's what would help you think so because see like when when it gets of course i wasn't watching does it does the does it collapse yes
[00:52:01] Oh absolutely all the way down it might need a strong got a trailing like those gear on it yeah yeah my f15 is like that i had to change the springs out to a stiffer spring so maybe that's
[00:52:10] All it is and that might help but i mean that was the first time i flew it too so i didn't know if that's how it's supposed to be if it's just the field we have but anyway so take off on that the rollout was a little bit longer than i would have preferred also but your first takeoff was without flaps true
[00:52:27] Going back to my previous experience with the f18 i was like i knew i had plenty of runway like that part didn't bother me but since it was sitting with that nose gear folded it was sitting at such a down like you you weren't going to get enough lift from the wings the way it was sitting no one for a negative incidence right so it's pushing it down onto the ground so i was very paranoid to just give it too much elevator to make it break ground because i didn't want to stall like that f18 did
[00:52:59] Right but i ended up getting the nose up enough to where it was getting air underneath it took off i stayed low for a little bit to get more speed built up and that thing does i mean it
[00:53:10] Flies it flies really good i enjoy that airplane like i was it looks like to me i didn't fly but it looks to me like it flies a lot like the viper yeah yeah which also maybe went a little bit slower
[00:53:21] Yeah okay yeah the viper is pretty quick it is but the like i took it out because it's in my way like it was one of those where i was like all right what this is the night if i crash
[00:53:34] It i don't care it's out of my way that makes me sad because that's it's such a good flying airplane
[00:53:39] Well i didn't know that at first i did i told you so how you haven't flown it though i've seen them fly but anyway so yes now that i have flown it i like the way it flies i ended up throwing one of the old ar636 as3x receivers i had in it got that all set up by flashing it and stuff so it was bone stock if yep and i mean it how are the settings you feel the need to mess with them
[00:54:09] At all so i need to to turn the gain down just a hair but not enough to where it's going to prevent me from flying it the way it is cool like if you were doing like an aileron roll and stopped as soon as you stopped there was just a little bit of twitchiness okay but that was it i mean like normal flight it was fine it didn't have any problem and it's got a good roll rate like it rolls nicely yeah i don't know what the throws are supposed to be on there so it's like max throws that's probably what they're supposed to be it flew fine so i can't say anything about it no i'm
[00:54:41] I'm yeah i like that airplane i i think it it looks good the red and white it shows up good in
[00:54:46] The air and it looks like it flies really really nice i don't want to like that airplane like
[00:54:52] Honestly that that is the one i don't know dave sounds to me like he's trying to get rid of it
[00:54:57] He needs to make more room you already got rid of the smaller one i like it though so i don't know if i want to get rid of it now like i said i i fully had it in my mind that i'm getting rid of this all right once again like said if it crashes i don't care that's good i have room to store something else but then it just turned out to be a good airplane it is a good airplane who makes that
[00:55:15] One free wing no is it free i think so okay yeah yeah flies nice free wing does some nice stuff they
[00:55:22] Do that's my first that i can remember free wing airplane and oddly enough i bought that to practice for the jet and we flew it and the jet has more flights than the phone yes which that's okay that's only because of batteries i mean it's a pain three minute flights on a battery that takes that's the downside yeah to those i'll probably need to get
[00:55:48] Which is kind of what makes the conversion look kind of appealing oh until you see the price of
[00:55:54] The conversion there's that then it's not appealing right but so what else did you made i also made this is another airplane that i wasn't sure if i was going to actually fly or just get rid of i've i bought it at jonal and as soon as i bought it i regretted buying it and as soon as i had to deal with the box and get it home i regretted even more as soon as i got home and had to find a place to store the box i regretted it as soon as crystal saw the box even more yes that that was another
[00:56:30] Regret regret regret so i thought it had been flown before so but it was still put in the box and i was like all right i'm just going to put it together fly it once and then get rid of it
[00:56:43] Damn don't do that like and what is it so okay you're right so this is the the e-flight ec 1500 the
[00:56:52] Like i got rid of the twin timber because it had the the dual nacelles with the dual motors and all that stuff they're hard to store got rid of that one because it was too big bought this one which is even bigger because the fuselage i'm here to tell you though that ec 1500
[00:57:12] Tommy's opinion flies way better than that twin timber i agree twin timber is kind of
[00:57:18] Yeah i agree and that's why i got rid of it i don't regret getting rid of the ec 1500 like you let me fly it and what a hoot it's fun it's so much fun you can hover with an ec 1500 like you shouldn't be able to hover with a military cargo plane hovering cargo plane i know but even if you
[00:57:37] Choose not to fly that way yeah it is still a blast it's a good it rolls really good the rudder is extremely effective especially like did you tinker with the differential thrust at all because you can do that too i know i have not done that yet that thing is gonna like once you get like if you fly it enough and get really comfortable that thing is going to do such
[00:57:58] Awesome flat spins the flat spins like the the ultraxes do yeah exactly it's yeah it's unfortunate that i like it as much as i i did because that was like i said one i planned on getting rid of but
[00:58:09] Now i'm you got a really good deal on that i think yeah i would have the deal at joan all yeah those were that was a really good deal so i'm keeping it because
[00:58:19] I actually got rid of the boxes already yep they're gone yep i have nowhere to put it back into to get rid of so yeah and i mean really it it stores nicely for what it is yeah the the cargo door is kind
[00:58:34] Of neat well yeah i mean for like so for example next year it it okay i'm good i told you next slim next year like rc fest you could do like a candy drop or something like that
[00:58:49] With the kids or i mean not for that but one piece at a time i don't think yeah you could fit
[00:58:54] A small handful of like jolly ranchers or something but anyway yeah that thing that thing's a hoot to
[00:59:01] Fly it's pretty fast and it slows down really well with the flags too so i i flew it on a 4s 3200 you can actually fly it on a 3s it says like i'm not sure that that would be as much fun it would be more scale it would and i bet it would still fly okay like i wonder it says 3s 32 or 3400 is what they recommend as the base wonder what it would fly like on a 3s 2200 because i have plenty of those to
[00:59:29] Try i mean might both try just to see yeah even if it's and it has so much power i mean granted 4s yeah like it had zero issues with the field oh i know that was the other thing it was like what
[00:59:42] Seven feet and it was in the air i mean yeah it had no problems whatsoever with all the divots and stuff and the other thing that's cool is the lights that are on it very bright bright and it has the the tail light the clear tail light that's on it and i just i love that when it has a beacon on top
[00:59:58] The red flashing beacon that i didn't notice until we were flying it's like yeah dude it's got a
[01:00:02] Beacon on it that's awesome so yeah yeah it's i mean i wanted to not like it but i like it so yeah that's another one that will be staying in the hangar for a while good i'm glad because that one
[01:00:12] Looks like a well i mean it is a blast to fly thanks for letting me fly yeah only come up with a
[01:00:17] Four engine version wouldn't that be cool i think i've seen somebody do a conversion on it oh yeah until
[01:00:23] It's time to store it yeah there's that but yeah and that's one that's big enough to where it has to
[01:00:29] Be taken apart in the car yeah good sized airplane it's yeah it's bigger than it looks
[01:00:38] But it's it's weird it flies like a really lightweight it almost flies like a umx almost the way you can toss it around i think so i mean i don't know if i'd go that far but
[01:00:48] It is agile how's that for what it is like i would not expect that airplane to be as agile as it is yeah i agree so that was my i think that was all my maidens i took a few other airplanes to fly flew them went through a bunch of batteries did my little dlg a few times oh that's right okay it wasn't a maiden
[01:01:07] I was thinking you had another one but yeah the dlg you've flown that before so flew that here this was the first time at a field yeah so there's a lot of there's video of you flying the dlg on our facebook page so you did post that check out ron's technique looks pretty good actually i was not
[01:01:24] Dressed for a video so i was not planning on that at all but whatever sorry that's okay i thought
[01:01:29] It was interesting because i had really never seen a launch before so well i don't know if i'm
[01:01:35] Doing it right but got it in the air so that's all that matters i think that's probably needs to watch the olympics awesome yeah that's coming up and then daniel yeah you didn't have any or maidens did you dave it was the f4 oh god i i think i blocked that one out of my mind oh my gosh
[01:01:54] That thing flies it's so pretty oh man does it fly as good as it is as it did yeah like you didn't let
[01:02:00] Me fly it but yeah it flies great way better than mine ever did so discuss what happened to it and all
[01:02:07] That stuff i'm gonna go ahead and just leave so this is the f4 that that ron destroyed for me when he man i don't know launched it yeah into the ground but anyway yeah this is the one that dave rebuilt and man does it look good it looks like a full-size one at thousand feet it does i mean it and still looks as solid as it used to yeah it flies great look good looks real good i'm happy that it flies as good for you as it did for me because and i completely guessed at the throws
[01:02:36] Because i can't find throws anywhere in my documentation so we did a good job guessing
[01:02:40] It seems yeah it seemed like it was pretty good maybe next time you'll let me fly it absolutely
[01:02:45] Okay it's i don't know who's gonna launch it for you though but yeah not you looking there but not me
[01:02:50] No no see that's the one thing that dave did modify instead of putting the retractable hand holding thing he just put a a fixed piece of plywood so now i think it's kind of scared just about anybody could just about just about anybody not me could launch it now i'm not even gonna try it
[01:03:09] On the plus side the skeg also keeps the tips of the wings out of the grass i like it yeah yeah that
[01:03:15] See that retractable one just there was something just off about it it stayed in my hand for god's sakes okay so i don't think i can take that much no i can take all the blame it was but i will still
[01:03:29] But no that went fairly smooth after you got it trimmed yeah i got a couple flights on the auto gyro and that scared myself too bad no that thing looks like you're you're getting more comfortable it's weird yeah it's yeah it sounds cool it does it sounds cool it looks cool but it just looks it's weird it's weird yeah right up your alley it's a different i like weird that flies normal this is weird that doesn't fly that flies yeah fly it's weird that flies weird yeah it looks it looks cool though yeah i agree and that's the hobby king one right that's not okay yeah okay cool and then
[01:04:02] Daniel actually made the cub and then had the great plains cub i can't remember what size it is it's kind of is it the 60 size it's the 60 size cub okay but i don't know what scale it really is it's not fifth scale it's not quarter it's like a little bigger than fifth but not quite quarter it anyway if it's a cub it flies like a gas like i didn't realize that and like he didn't realize
[01:04:29] That when he bought it yeah has one of the evolution 15 cc gassers right 15 or the 8 15 15 okay yeah
[01:04:36] Yeah those were supposed to be good running engines i never had one seemed like a run pretty
[01:04:40] Good yeah it's good it's a little cranky to start but when it runs it's fine that 8 cc one was cranky to start too the one they put on the bus down i wonder if that has something to do with it probably yeah they don't like to hand flip they refer to the starter yeah just for the speed yeah but once it fires it's fine yeah but you made that for him right i did the takeoff and then handed it off because oh it's a cub it's a cub yeah it's like here you go a couple trip clicks of trim nothing major not bad for an 80 airplane yeah no doubt and then on the was that the
[01:05:14] Second flight that he the second flight he had a little boo-boo with it yeah i think it was just too slow i think yeah cubs are weird i mean like cubs you have to fly them on the ground i think he he horsed it off he didn't yeah he didn't let it roll i think long enough and yeah not enough air
[01:05:29] Speed and it tip stalled and which it rolled to the right which is unusual they usually roll to the
[01:05:34] Left no it went to the left oh it did yeah because he was taken off away from us and it ended up
[01:05:39] Maybe because i saw about i didn't see the crash i just saw the bounce after the crash so
[01:05:44] I didn't see the crash either because i was flying yeah the the tail never really came up like it it left the ground at that same angle that it was rolling at and almost as soon as it broke ground i just did one of these and then hit the wingtip and yeah he horsed it drove the nose and then yeah was he full throttle could you hear it sounded like full throttle yeah it's not overpowered but it's not right i mean it's cub yeah it's not it's not a easily fixable though right he said
[01:06:12] I believe it is fixed already done a picture the other day wanting to know if the engine should be
[01:06:16] Off to the right it's like well yeah yeah yeah a couple degrees yeah so yeah so i'm not surprised dan's pretty daniel's pretty quick about well yeah he doesn't like broken airplanes hanging around
[01:06:25] Either and it was not bad like for the sound that it made i was expecting a lot worse yeah but oh it made a horrendous sound yeah yeah but if you were watching it's a sound you would yeah well i was flying so i didn't get to it pulled so of course i'm flying and you're like okay i'm watching my airplane watching my airplane crash i'm like look away for a minute what happened where'd it go
[01:06:44] Thumping quiet yeah yeah but yeah just what pulled the blocks out of the wing for the struts
[01:06:49] One of the struts pulled out of the wing yeah and it looks like a giant dowel yeah it's just i think that's exactly what it is yeah just go poxy it back in half-inch dowel and then he knocked the firewall out of it so no biggie yeah peace cake done before i refly it i'll give it a good twisting and good yank yeah see if the motor stays on tug on stuff twist the wing yeah that was a lot of a lot
[01:07:12] Of maidens that night that was a lot of fun oh and then i made in the double vision oh how'd that go i forgot about that one i love that airplane yeah oh my gosh from from the first like two seconds of flight from the second i saw i just fell in love that it was yeah it's awesome i have too much work by the way for me to put together much less work for the double vision than it is for the bees like you see how i store the wings on the double vision right yeah it actually goes for a biplane with
[01:07:42] Four aileron servos it goes together pretty quick i think for for that size of an airplane so how do you store the wings on it so i pull them off in pairs like so i'll pull the two because i leave the
[01:07:55] Combine interplane or the cabane one of the cabane is the center i leave the interplane struts attached to the wing panels and then i pull off one complete side at a time and then when i have them off slide the wing tube back in them and i store them as if they were still one piece attached to the plane yes they take up a lot of space that way but the assembly is much quicker that way yeah
[01:08:20] Triplanes that way too i leave top wing and middle wing together same same idea yep this one has
[01:08:27] Dle 55 ra on it so you'll be familiar with that you could also get a auto start on it all right i don't know if i want the extra weight i'm just saying you could yeah just in theory you could but man this thing flies good it needs a muffler so i think i may i may put a pipe on this one kind of like what the pipes on the on the beast what's on that one by the way
[01:08:49] Muffler wise it's the factory dle muffler really that oh man yeah that sucks that's what i have on that i don't want it that loud it's crazy loud yeah that's what that was that's the brand new dle 55 i got from brian what two three years ago that sucks okay yep well let me know what you
[01:09:08] Do on yours because i might have to do the same well actually no i'm not going to do a can why not well because i want the bottom to be able to open well just run it off to the side a little bit
[01:09:18] We'll see i still want to do a candy drop luckily for me the double vision has a tunnel built into the bottom of the fuselage so i can it'll still be on the outside but it'll be tucked up that's
[01:09:28] Probably what it's made for i mean like to have an actual can put on it to make it look nice and it is
[01:09:33] But it flies it flies really really i was comfortable immediately with it like it was
[01:09:39] A little bit of nerves for the takeoff but like once i made the first turn i was like oh yeah this thing's this thing's fine until you can tell your story oh yeah yeah that's weird so i think i must have had the idle a little bit too low so on the second or third flight i guess it was whichever second one i guess because the third and fourth followed yeah i took it up and was doing some stall type stuff just to kind of see what it was going to do and it it stalls
[01:10:10] Beautifully like it just mushes like a sport plane like a good sport plane it's probably why i like it so much because i like sport anyway once i was comfortable with that i thought i'll see what see if i can get it to do a flat spin so i got it i got it up there got it stalled and got it just as it started turning to start flattening out the engine died kind of had it at idle so i'm like well that's not good brand new airplane whoopsie yeah luckily i had plenty of altitude and i probably could have turned sooner and sharper but i was so worried about stalling it
[01:10:48] And hitting the runway because runway's hard yeah i i kind of widened out the turn flattened it out and put it in the beans oops flattened it out and put it in the beans which zero damage whatsoever but yeah not not yeah it wasn't bad at all not proud of that but well i mean you did better than yeah i got it down on one piece there's no damage to it yeah so even the wheel pants were fine because i
[01:11:13] Checked them when i got home and not even a crack on them so yeah so i got lucky it was slow i mean
[01:11:18] Like it went in very slow well and i think that's probably why i was okay with putting it in the beans because i had already stalled it in the air and knew that it was going to be pretty uneventful if
[01:11:30] It did happen to stall so yeah i was okay with flattening it out and just letting it settle in the
[01:11:35] Beans yeah it worked out well nice and soft trying to find something sorry okay but yeah that was it was that was it right i think for maidens i think so because yeah we flew some other stuff but
[01:11:52] I think that was it for yeah i pulled a reggie and flew into myself you did i didn't hear you missed that i missed that too but what was i doing you were flying i think hi yeah what was he doing
[01:12:05] I'll let you tell the shadow seeker the shadow see her yeah -huh it's kind of hard for me to
[01:12:12] Toss and not fall over i found out because he's got one leg i think i know what happened yeah i think i heard it but i didn't see it i have found out that i can set it up on its tail fin and if i push forward on the stick and give it enough throttle just jam the throttle it just launches straight up off the ground like a rocket ship and then flies away most times most of the time well you got to make sure that it leans ever so slightly away from you because with the battery it actually wants to fall backwards so when this one started coming off the ground it fell backwards
[01:12:46] And flew directly at me it's a pusher so it is it's a pusher it's no big deal it didn't hurt but it did it did fly directly into you there was nothing i could do with it it's just like i'm going to eat this
[01:13:01] That's awesome and i apologize if i laughed when it happened but it was pretty funny because you were confident that oh watch this just set it down on its fin watch this okay i can't wait to see
[01:13:15] Ouch and every launch since then has been dead perfect yeah yeah but that one where tommy was
[01:13:20] Watching i think actually tommy is the one that set it down for him so it's my fault that's what i was going like yeah seven it's definitely not a fast airplane but it does look really really good it's got a lot of lights on it it's very bright very solid yep i'll have to get something similar i think
[01:13:52] I'm used to the one yeah i was gonna say i think i'm used to the sounds of like the assassins and the wings and stuff at joan all where they are just booking it at that pitch right and then you hear the pitch on dave and daniels as they fly by and it's like you start to look at it and then you look past it you're like wait it's not going that fast yeah i'm looking 35 mile an hour yeah yeah first gear yeah yeah but no good airplanes they seem to be fine easy to launch these guys have
[01:14:19] The launches yeah right and yourself yeah daniel got it right away it looked like so yeah yeah so anyway the night of maidens was seven maidens i think it was we counted between all of us yeah i got it all done before dark yeah yeah and then it was night flying after that which i love night
[01:14:37] Flying we've been doing a lot more than yeah i actually got the shiny out again and flew that several times that's such a good flying it's a great airplane yeah any hints about night flying
[01:14:47] For the guys just do it just do it yeah just get an airplane with a few lights that with a lot of lights orientation and just do it you haven't it's a lot of fun i'm trying to think you're start
[01:14:59] Before dark right work up to dark yeah yeah start around dusk yeah your was that the vamana that you put lights in have you found that in dark dark yet oh that's right i was there wasn't i yeah it was
[01:15:14] The night i remember that one yeah that was the night of the beast maiden yeah you guys showed that was that first night yeah yeah yeah it needs nav lights it needs you need something you can see it easy enough that's no problem it looks very cool in certain yeah in certain positions it looks really really cool but in some positions it completely disappears yeah so yeah i need to i need to get some lights on the leading edges i think somehow i was gonna say that kind of makes sense because it's
[01:15:38] You're lit up and down so when it's coming right at you there's nothing that you're gonna see yeah
[01:15:43] But you can see it from behind like if it's going away from yeah there's enough taper in the wings you can see the light but i was gonna say you have the the wing taper on yeah there's so i need to put something on the leading edges i will eventually yeah probably do something similar to what we're doing on the radians remind me i've got leds i can give you if you want okay so yeah cool night flying go do it
[01:16:06] It's a lot of fun all right two more things i want to talk about if i can unless you want to say anything else on that nope that was it okay so last week i talked about the truck charger question last two weeks okay two weeks ago i talked about the truck charger question oh yeah and ask the question of the listeners i got many responses oh good deal most of which were nice some of which pretty much called me a dummy no because you're not i over complicate things 150 watts makes sense to me that 150 watts with
[01:16:40] Volts and amps and all that kind of stuff you can divide it out to figure out how many amps you can charge your 3s battery at i'm cool with that but i was trying to add the level of complication to somehow we're going from 110 volts at 150 amp or 150 watts to how do i convert that over well it doesn't matter it's 150 watts is what is out of that so if you're charging a 3s battery or whatnot you can go up like 8 amps or something like that and it will work just fine the higher the the voltage
[01:17:11] Battery obviously the less amps you can charge so i'm yeah thank you for the nice responses
[01:17:19] Thank you for the not so nice responses i appreciate we like those yeah yeah no i mean
[01:17:24] I'm i'm okay with it like i tell me i'm i have broad shoulders i can take it but yeah so that's that that's the gist of it and i also did find out by trial and error that if i do put too many amps into a battery in the truck it resets itself like it just turns off and turns right back on oh which is nice because then you hear the the charger beep and hey wait a minute hey something's going on yeah i'm gonna go turn that down now so cool no harm no foul it was easy good deal and appreciate
[01:17:59] The feedback most of you anyway yeah it's it's great that you can you can charge your batteries from with the truck running in the pits it's a pain that it runs i'm hearing yeah we love listening to
[01:18:13] That well what we don't have electricity there so we got to make up for it somehow i'm not sure a generator would be better honestly it's going to be a higher pitch yeah although maybe the generator could be put further away daniel's done his with the trailer we just put
[01:18:28] The generator behind the trailer you don't even hear it well then maybe daniel needs to bring his
[01:18:32] Next time i'll bring the fuel he brings the generator i thought about or maybe you just need to buy your own trailer trailer i'm trying trust me my god i've pushed crystal so hard on that i it's he'll be living in the trailer if he pushes yes and i'm probably fine with that as long as i put air conditioning in and that's okay with me i'll sleep with my airplanes i'm gonna say my true loves but that's not true yeah you shouldn't say that i shouldn't so i won't so what was the other thing so the last thing i want to talk about was the big spectrum firmware update yes
[01:19:09] It's kind of a big deal tommy hasn't updated his yet well i am the only one that really doesn't get anything out of it but mine is completely up to date so i'm off tomorrow and my plan
[01:19:21] Was actually to go downstairs turn my transmitter on and download the firmware update you do that with your
[01:19:29] Wi-fi or you have to have your computer running no it's so easy it's just like updating an app on your phone it took me like less than a minute i'm sure it will take no time at all but i just
[01:19:39] But it's nice no i get it do it so they i get the big i'm sorry i get the big the big pay increase if you will i go from 14 to 20 channels so i'm going to be honest if you look at the lineup
[01:19:52] On all spectrum's radios and look what they got look at price points look at all that kind of stuff the sweet spot to be in is an nx8 or an ix14 yeah i agree because at this point your radio can do everything that mine can do minus the fancy gimbals well again i don't want to give those up but i'm saying functionality wise i can't do that with the ix14 it can do everything mine can do at 1100 less i think yeah roughly yeah i guess i guess you're right yeah it is but sorry so they
[01:20:31] Gave no don't be sorry i'm still like i do not regret your screen's bigger i know and you have
[01:20:36] The fancy gimbals yeah and your transmitter is a little heavier if that's important they're getting
[01:20:41] Heavy yeah mine is still pretty light my my ix14 i'm gonna be honest my ix20 feels really good in my hand like i'm so used to the the feel of that the size of it i don't think i want to go back to anything else it would feel toyish well you wanted to say toy i did but i wasn't going to i was going to say it would feel not as refined which is a nice way of saying toyish right so they updated the nx7e nx6 nx8 nx10 nx10 se nx20 the ix14 and the ix20 and ix20 se like said out of all of them
[01:21:25] The ix20 se which is what i have got the least updates but that's okay i i might sound butthurt about it but i'm not it's all see no actually here's the thing anything that's on this that we are given now great as a bonus like i was not expecting any of it when we got it it just so happens that my bonus was bigger you were not expecting to have a 20 channel transmitter not at all when you bought
[01:21:50] That three four months ago whenever it was so what has motivated this act of kindness well i don't know there's no profit involved in this well i would say that i would say that they're constantly
[01:22:03] Improving their products in the interest of selling more products so if you if you make an existing product better and then shortly down the road discontinue that product and produce another product with those features it makes sense financially to do that i'm not following yeah so let's make the ix14s more capable right for free not charge our customers anything for doing this and let's let them play with those new features for a while and then let's discontinue the ix14
[01:22:36] And it's like oh you want those features well buy you this and make something else later let's call it an ax8 or an ix18 with 30 channels or whatever do what i'm saying no i don't follow that
[01:22:47] Like i i see what you're trying to say are they using it maybe like a beta to see how this works out see i don't think so i don't like i think i didn't take it that way this is a real yeah this is a final launch of this is what you can do now with these which or maybe they're trying to give people more
[01:23:05] For their money to make up because there are options now where they can get similar performance
[01:23:12] For a lot less money sky radio master etc exactly maybe also it's just a logical next step that could
[01:23:19] Be too i mean there's a time where it's we can now do this so let's do this i mean i i don't
[01:23:26] Know i don't know what yeah not complaining about it's great but just wonder what the motivation is
[01:23:32] I don't know i'm happy about it cpi that's what we call it at work continuous process improvement oh
[01:23:40] I've heard it's continuous improvement i didn't realize that yeah p no but anyway so you are now 20 channels the nx well not yet i will be tomorrow well okay but you have that ability the nx7 is now up to 14 channels yeah i think that's the only one that's 14 right because the nx8 actually the 8 actually the the nx6 might also be oh 14 channels i don't know that's a lot of channels on a six channel
[01:24:12] Radio yeah yeah and then the nx8 plus no the nx8 went to 20 channels everything above that is 20 channels so they did they are selling now the nx8 plus and the nx7e plus all the plus means is it already has that firmware loaded onto it and i think the nx8 plus has a little bit bigger battery like 200 milliamp hours but other than that same radio so that's cool on the transmitter side
[01:24:42] There's also updates now where they're moving to as3x plus on all of i shouldn't say all on a lot of their air receivers so the old ar630 ar631 the ar637 ta ar637t ar8350 t or 8360t and the ar10360t which is the safe big safe receiver those all get the cool little as3x plus added to it so my
[01:25:20] Jet has a x3s blood or plus on it it's very easy to program with forward programming with initial setup with all that kind of stuff i was so when i when i went through that and did that on the jet i honestly didn't think i did it right because it was so simple i mean like there's not much to it you you go in you have to like on the bigger ones you have to tell like the bigger airplanes you have to tell it how you have it set up like what actual direction how you have the the gyro in it if you
[01:25:55] Have a smaller airplane you can pick up which i could have done on a jet too but i didn't want to because you got to pick it up you literally pick it up and you it tells you hold it down hold it to the side or whatever and then it knows the orientation based on like two measurements so it learns its center yeah it learns itself based on how you tilt it the other thing that it has that i really thought was kind of neat and i don't remember what it was called but there's an option in there under the the setup to check your throws to make sure corrections are correct
[01:26:29] To make sure it's correcting in the the correct way and what that does is it turns up like the gain the gain to as high as it will go so you can clearly see the direction yeah yeah so you take your wing yeah yeah you take your wing and you raise it up six inches and then it goes to full deflection trying to fix that so you can very easily and quickly see okay that's set up correctly
[01:26:54] My correct direction yeah if you change the the the tail will we'll do the same thing and everything else do so no more sitting in my office chair and spinning mm-hmm yeah i mean because
[01:27:05] Before to check i mean you'd have to you'd have to do this again exactly like that's what i had to do on the on that singer 90 and it was i'm gonna be honest kind of a pain because it moves so fast that you're you're trying to see it while you're doing it fast and it's difficult and it doesn't move a lot which it's not supposed to but when you're trying to eye it up it's kind of a yeah interesting that's a cool feature i like that feature the other thing now they all have nose hold the the steering
[01:27:36] Like heading hold or heading hold yeah for the for the steering wheel which is nice because it keeps you straight on the on the tarmac when you're taking off i'm trying to think what else what
[01:27:50] Taking the pilot out of the equation well you can turn it off i have jailbraked all my as3x receivers and turned everything off well yeah you can do that but i'm just teasing i'm just yeah
[01:28:04] Because that that's inevitably going to be the argument that you're going to hear from somebody out they're saying oh well geez what do you even need an airplane floor just flies itself and blah blah blah it's like well i like as3x myself i love this it smooths out the bumps just like what yeah like your shocks how they described it to you so you're taking the rough air out yeah so yeah and i'm
[01:28:29] Not going to get into as3x plus over the as3x because i really don't know all the differences in it but i know there's a few extra settings in there that you can change that make it behave better like quicker but different parameters and stuff it works great on the jet so i've seen like mb339s fly without any kind of stabilization and they just don't look locked in mine the way it was set up i mean it's like it's on rails it flies so good sorry but it does but there's
[01:29:04] A lot of different things like the nx transmitters get i don't know just by reading them what a lot of them mean so you can look that up on your own ix got a bunch of updates also one of the things that it says that has that i'm not sure what it is either updated the handling of turbine off condition status yeah i don't know what that was either i don't know either but i mean sounds fun i have a turbine it's good to know that's added i guess i i have no idea but yeah so there's there's a lot
[01:29:38] Of things look it up if you haven't downloaded it yet download it go play with it it was easy for me to download with the ix series it's just updating an app and yeah but all of our except for dave because he's way old on transmitters but all of our current transmitters just got a major upgrade and they're a lot smarter and a lot more channels now the only problem i see naming convention is
[01:30:03] Way off ix yeah ix 14 is a 20 channel ix 20 is a 20 channel and x8 is a 20 channel and x7 is a 14
[01:30:15] Channel yeah and x10 is a 20 channel channel so i mean i don't know how that will bear out in the
[01:30:24] Long run yeah yeah but who knows sad kind of to see that the ix 12 didn't get any love that's so old
[01:30:33] Though i know i mean that's that's the problem i know but although i mean we got the latest update where we can do the forward programming and stuff that's true with the oh what was it the as3x plus programming can be done on it it just didn't get the extra channels channels which is
[01:30:51] Fine i mean that i don't use mine you're gonna seldom use that many channels but it's good to
[01:30:57] Have the option it's nice that they're there yeah i mean that new hanger 9 broncos
[01:31:04] That's 10 servos plus two more for if you double two more for what well for each throttle right because that's not a servo right so that's 12 plus gear 13. he's got drop tags plus you're going to use a separate steering servo channel probably oh yeah so that would be well no that's still going to be your 10 servos if you put each one oh i guess that's not true that's true so yeah but yeah i don't know so that was exciting lots of updates go look it up figure it out do it i will download mine tomorrow
