[00:00:05] Hello everyone and welcome to the RC Plane Lab podcast I’m Ron I’m Tom and I’m dave hey y’all.
[00:00:16] Y’all what’s up that’s the midwestern hello no it’s not it’s a southern hello.
[00:00:23] We say that sometimes here: who me, not you, but I don’t. It’s always hello there. Mine’s always how y’all doing, how y’all doing. I swear I’ve never heard you guys say that like an actual conversation around. Whenever I have said that, obviously I’m just not comfortable.
[00:00:43] Around him maybe oh that’s too hoity-toity oh the wheels he’s always stuck in his shell he’s always.
[00:00:50] Afraid to come out of his shell to talk to people I’m always the one introducing our yes to the.
[00:00:55] People hey y’all hey y’all no okay then I don’t think anyway well we are way off the wheels on.
[00:01:05] The bus have fallen off already or whatever that is if you say so anyway so cold and windy it’s been.
[00:01:12] Cold and windy lately it’s been a little wet crappy and a lot wet actually feel sorry for our southern.
[00:01:18] Folks, yeah, speaking of y’all. Yeah, maybe that’s where you guys got it, just all of a sudden. Yeah, you’re probably right, the hurricane affected my speech. Sure, my brother-in-law lives down in tampa.
[00:01:31] I haven’t heard anything from him so apparently he’s either dead or doing fine.
[00:01:35] Well hopefully doing fine and busy with cleanup hopefully.
[00:01:39] I mean that’s the complete opposite either, or it has to be one of the two, or I guess some delineation in between, or some. Yeah, anyway whatever.
[00:01:52] But yeah I’m sure my wife has spoken to him but hopefully yeah not if he’s dead not if he’s dead.
[00:02:00] Though well maybe I mean who knows well I guess you would you board and I suppose yeah so airplanes.
[00:02:07] Medium yeah airplanes rc airplanes let’s talk about something other than ah death.
[00:02:15] There’s been enough of that around here lately. Oh yeah, you wanna. Oh yeah, sure, so yeah, last week we had to say goodbye to our family pet cooper the dog. Yeah, so thanks for reminding me to talk about that. It was a rough couple days. He’s been with us for 12 years, so he was a pit bull- 13 years old, which is old for a pit bull. Yeah, he’s getting up there, but yeah, we’ll miss him. But take us a while to even think about getting another dog, but I’m fairly confident that someday- not very soon-
[00:02:54] We’ll probably have another dog really I think so would you like to borrow river for a while no.
[00:02:59] Laurie’s up for another one. She was well no, she didn’t say that, but I feel in my heart that eventually she will come around, she will want the companionship because she really.
[00:03:11] Was bonded oh absolutely cooper so yeah I’m sorry to hear that’s terrible thank you yeah.
[00:03:18] Luckily he didn’t suffer for very long thank goodness it was a decision we sort of.
[00:03:25] Were forced to make based on his condition that progressed pretty quickly so his advanced age.
[00:03:32] Yeah, he, he didn’t suffer and he was in, not, he was not in any pain, so that we, we had that good for us. So, anyway. And then I lost my eight-year-old bunny and I lost his buddy. Now that sucks. I have no more bunnies and happier notes, guys, let’s move on. Yes, oh well, but in the last couple weeks, no airplanes have died of ours, so that’s good. No, that is good. Yeah, we haven’t flown too much.
[00:04:04] Either well that’s true that’s how it happens so we did have the eli scale flying can you.
[00:04:13] Really say you have my field well they did so they had a registered pilot we I mean like we.
[00:04:22] Knew the weather was going to be crappy, hit or miss, but we decided what, let’s have it in any way. Just because we made a mistake it was, it was pretty bad. So it was thursday, friday- saturday: thursday: I was there by myself. Friday: I was there by myself. Saturday: I was there by myself till the late afternoon, nearly by yourself actually. No, there were a couple people that showed.
[00:04:52] To see what was going on saturday. But I did fly, believe it or not. I got 20-ish flights in, I think, between the days. Oh wow, excellent. Only because I was the only one there and had no one to talk to.
[00:05:06] And the wind was right down the runway. Oh, the wind sucked, yeah, but it was right down the runway. So I think thursday was 19 mile an hour, gusting to 30, gusting to 30. Yeah, saturday I did not fly at all because it was actually kind of not straight down the runway, it was kind of cross runway and it was. It was bumpy which sucked, and it was. I think that was 20, 28 or 29 mile an hour wind, yeah, with like 46 gusts. These are all the remnants of the hurricane. Hurricane, yeah, and I
[00:05:45] Think I think springfield the, the highest gust we got here was like 62 mile an hour. Yeah, it was pretty. Yeah, it was very windy in town even, which is rare. Yeah, usually the trees and stuff block it and it kind of goes above us, but and then saturday it kind of calmed down a little bit. I think it was 15.
[00:06:00] 24. So, yeah, friday night I was actually concerned. I live in town, obviously, but some of the noises emanating from my house as we were trying to sleep I was concerned that siding was actually coming off the house of the noises I was hearing. But luckily nothing like that happened. But it was very windy even in town, which is, like I said, kind of rare. Yeah, so not conducive to a flying event. Nope, no, no, not at all, and I think that scared a lot of people.
[00:06:30] Away, rightfully so. Yeah, except for this dumb head here. I went ahead and went every day. At least you got some flying. I did get some flying in. I probably shouldn’t have, but it kind of goes back to pushing outside of our comfort zone. Yes, and so I flew the viper, the viper 90. I got a like two flights in on the slow ultra stick. I mean, I don’t know how you pulled that one off. Yeah, really that. So that one to get it to fly backwards. That’s about the only way, easily- I think I was more.
[00:07:03] Concerned about it actually flying forwards at full throttle. I was going to say it’s max p we figured out was about 35 mile an hour. Yeah, yeah, so I, that was, that happened, I think, twice. Two batteries and that was about all. But the viper was powerful enough, I guess, to not care too much about you get those heavier wing loading cutting through the way or the wind. So I did, I threw a the SkyID in it just to see how fast downwind and it ended up close to 140, 140. Yeah, that’s awesome, that should.
[00:07:41] Tell you how fast it was down now upwind, I didn’t even pay attention because I was just looking when I went through. I was just right, I was just looking at the, at the, the speed, the high speeds as I was going through, not for the, the regular passes, but yeah, it was just under 140. That’s awesome. The goblin would be fun in that. Oh my god, you would lose it in five seconds. But like I said,
[00:08:05] Right down the runway or else I would not have tried and you won an award so you can now say that.
[00:08:09] You are an award-winning pilot. So, yeah, I did win the choice. I did win the pilot’s choice award. You were the only pilot. I was the only pilot there, so I gave it to myself- actually we so at our last club meeting last night, the all of the prizes are cups and they’re laser etched cups and stuff and they’re dated. Yeah, so it had to be given out this year and it was for the scale event, so we just drew names and all that kind of stuff, but I was awarded, mine being pilot’s choice nice.
[00:08:43] Yeah, at least. I mean, at least I showed up, true, to get the cup. Very true, like most of the other people there that ended up winning the cups didn’t even fly anything, scale or anything at all. World war one.
[00:08:58] World war ii: civilian. Yeah, yeah, that’s okay. Well, I had every intention. Well, I’m not- not, I can’t say, every intention, but saturday I was actually working up the gumption to get out of the house and take some airplanes over there to fly, but I got preoccupied with working on the. I’ve got my receiver last week, by the way, for the jet. Oh yeah, that’s awesome, that’s synapse. And so I was. I got involved with getting the install on the wiring all nice and clean and that, and I was making good progress. So I elected not to go to eli. Now I realize I should have, because I could have won an award. Yeah, saturday.
[00:09:33] Would have been the day to do it- friday, and that’s the other thing. Like saturday morning, friday and thursday morning, going backwards, were kind of rainy and just misty too. So yeah, it was not the best, but yes, you could have showed up. It would have been nice to have somebody there, somebody to talk to. Yeah, at least.
[00:09:56] You live, you learn. Next year, if that happens, we’ll cancel. I was figuring logistics to do it myself and it’s like, no, not going it. Just it was saturday especially. Well, I’m friday. I always get those confused. Friday especially was just so bad. It would not have been fun and I work a half day friday. So I was thinking about it’s like, yeah, yeah, friday, I spent actually most of the day I knew it was going to be bad out, so I actually took my laptop with me just in case. And so how eli is it has the, the, the big hanger and then the outdoor pavilion thing, so I was sitting
[00:10:32] Under the pavilion with my laptop up and it was blowing my laptop across the table, yeah, so I ended up going and sitting inside the hanger for a while and working on stuff in there and I mean it just it got to the point where it was just windy and rainy and crappy, so I went home. Yeah, live and learn and you’ll have days like that. Yeah, yeah, you will like. I get it. Like I said we, we probably should have.
[00:10:59] Canceled but I don’t know why it would have canceled because a hurricane.
[00:11:04] And that was the worst part, like literally up until a week before looking at the forecast: three to four mile an hour winds- yeah, 73 degrees, yeah, like all three days. Yeah, man, I was excited, or a hurricane, or a hurricane who knew. But yeah, that was my weekend of flying, so let’s talk about your jet, though. What are you working on that? You said you got.
[00:11:31] Your synapse. Oh yeah, so I, I installed the. I’ve got the receiver installed and I ran. Obviously I have the servos. I got those previously. Those are all installed. The wiring harnesses are made out to the wings with the quick connects that I wired up myself. The wing harnesses themselves are done, so pretty much all that’s left to do is to get a uat, install that and plumb everything, because the tank is done too, by the way. Nice. And then, yeah, acquire a turbine, plummet and run the.
[00:12:03] Electric to it and that airplane will be ready to go. So you’re really close, yeah, work-wise, financially well, yeah, I understand that. Yeah, but no it. Once I get the final few components- the uat and the and the turbine- yeah, I’m maybe an hour’s worth of work left to do on it, so nice, yeah, that’ll be a. That’ll be a quick turnaround once I get the, once I get the engine.
[00:12:32] On hand so and you’re doing a 120 right 102 yeah sorry I knew there was a two in there somewhere.
[00:12:37] Yeah, flipped them 100 ish size. I’m leaning towards the king tech 102 g4, but we’ll. We’ll see you what. What happens when the time comes to actually order one? If I can’t find one in stock anywhere, then I will consider swelin or chicoi or jetcat or whoever. But I would like to go with the king tech because I’m familiar with them, having run two of them now. Yeah, nice, lead in, thanks. Yeah. So, speaking of running two, we got. We got Reggie’s jet complete.
[00:13:13] Complete and nearly ready to fly. Just a few small final tweaks. Final tweaks to for that airplane to be ready to truly ready to fly, which the only things he has to do is- all he has to do is CG- throws right, just double check the CG, which will be fine because we’ll put six ounces of lead in the
[00:13:33] Nose. No, you won’t. You, I mean honestly, you’re gonna have to add more than that. Well, because it was, I did six ounces. You keep getting, for some reason. Whenever we were talking about this before, I kept saying six inches. But yes, six ounces is what I put in. Oh right, but I also have the, the four thousand mh, so we’ll check.
[00:13:52] It. Yeah, or he will check it because he has physical possession of the airframe. Yeah, it’s not gone in my house any longer, so but yeah, CG, whatever it takes to get that close. And then final control throws, make sure they’re all even and that sort of thing, and make sure they’re recommended manual, recommended per the manual throw. Oh yeah, what I’m talking about? Throws recommended by the manual, and that’s it. We’ve ran it. You were here to witness the first run and Reggie was
[00:14:26] Here and he was very excited asked a lot of questions which is good yeah no and you yelled at.
[00:14:33] Me for doing all the work for him. I did like no offense but you were like you kept because I suggested you didn’t let him, from start to finish, turn it on, start it, turn it off and then turn everything off completely, reboot and all that kind of stuff, because he needs to learn every step. It took me a while to remember to always turn the fuel on, because I don’t have any other airplanes that have a fuel shutoff that you have to do that on. So it’s good to get in that habit and you would just step in.
[00:15:04] And do that one step for him or something different it’s like let him do it let him do it.
[00:15:09] Just leave him alone. Kaboom, yeah, yeah, well, good times, yeah, but he did, he did finally do it all by himself, from start to finish, with no input from either of us. Yeah, so, and I, I think, and the more.
[00:15:25] He does it, the more comfortable he will get. Yeah, I think the time it clicked for me to always remember to turn it on is when I didn’t turn it on in front of somebody else start. Yeah, it didn’t start this thing, oh. But the worst part was there was another jet that was spooling up near mine, so I thought
[00:15:39] It was running, yeah. And then the guy’s like: well, the guy was me. No, that wasn’t there. Because I looked at you. I was like: are you gonna stop the start sequence so you can restart it? I thought that was miguel that was there that time. Well, he was there, but I was looking at you like Ron, it’s not running.
[00:15:57] And you just kept standing there looking at it like listen dude it sounds good there’s no smoke this time.
[00:16:02] Though god yeah I mean ah there was too much going on then that poor starter I said run in that starter.
[00:16:09] Motor oh yeah whatever that’s that’s fine because that’s the starter motor that’s the cooling motor that’s.
[00:16:14] Everything motor yeah it’s not going to hurt anything it’s the one that turns the turbine and.
[00:16:21] Makes thrust. No, it’s not wow, but anyway. Yes, Reggie was able to start and get his all taken care of. Did you tell him the trick on the trim settings, though? I did. That’s actually, I’m glad you, because
[00:16:36] I did get to do some flying- that reminds me Reggie- and I did go to the church. I forget what day that was: was a monday, friday, sunday. It was sunday. We flew sunday. I flew the viper. I flew the viper 70 and a 90. I have a 90 size viper. Now you what? Thank you, Reggie. Yeah, that really generous gesture by Reggie gave me his old e-flight viper 90. He got a new one, but he gave me his old one for helping him out with his jet and basically it was. It was rent for keeping his airplane at my.
[00:17:10] Place for a while he should have given you the new one well I did suggest that he was like.
[00:17:16] No, that’s okay, but no, it’s fine. Then you should have gone and pulled like 10 wires out and been like, okay, then it’s all on you to put it back. So the viper shows up at my house, is that right, exactly?
[00:17:25] No, no wires out of the jet. Yeah, that he put together or just pluck the uat out of it or something. Yeah, I could have done that. I need Reggie to do something stupid because I need some cash flow.
[00:17:36] Yeah, Reggie, are you listening? He will don’t worry. But anyway, yeah, we did go to the church and flew the flew- the two vipers. Forget where I was going with that, oh, Reggie’s transmitter. So yes, we did figure out the quick trim and it is exactly what you said. When I went to that menu, scrolled over.
[00:17:54] To the right so hold on instead of that menu instead of all that explain I was afraid you were.
[00:17:59] Gonna ask that. So okay, so for starting a turbine, oh right, so the pro, at least for a king tech, which is what I’m familiar with- the start process is you start from stick down, trim down right, and the start command is trim all the way up, and then you run the stick to full throttle and back to idle. That is the signal to the gsu to start the turbine correct. And if you don’t have quick trim, I call it quick trauma, it’s whatever the name of it is. If you don’t have that enabled, then you have to push the trim rocker.
[00:18:29] Up and wait for it to go all the way exactly to full, like yeah, to full up trim, and then the reverse, the shutdown process is you pull the stick back to idle, pull the trim all the way down to cut off. So that’s annoying and time consuming and it makes a lot of noise, especially if your volume is set to one thousand, like it is on Reggie’s transmitter because he’s old and deaf. So, yeah, we figured out the, the, the three-step trim, and that is in the trim settings menu in the setup menu on his nx series.
[00:19:06] Radio, yeah, so it just takes big chunks at a time. It’s just one click down, it’s all the way down. One quick up, it’s back to neutral. Another click up, it’s all the way up. Super, super simple, yeah, and see quick when. Okay, so I didn’t even know that. I’m sorry, because we don’t fly the turbines with trim, with throttle trim, right, yeah, so it’s. There’s no reason to have the individual trim positions.
[00:19:29] And I didn’t even know that was a thing like the first few times we started mine- that’s how we did. It was the long beeps and all that kind of stuff. When I went and had ali fly it for the first time, he didn’t apparently like that. So he’s like, oh, let me change it. I mean he did it so fast like I was.
[00:19:44] Trying to watch and see what he was doing well when you do it every day right of the year and so.
[00:19:50] He changed it and stuff and he said: there now it’s just two clicks up and you’re, you’re fine. I’m like I should ask. I should ask: cool, thank you. And then so I knew that was a thing. Yeah, when we had Reggie’s nx series, which I have never- I mean, his is the first nx radio I’ve ever touched- I don’t, I just
[00:20:09] It’s very similar to dx radios, which you are familiar with. Yeah, it’s been a while, it’s been a long time. I don’t remember much about the interface. The gui- yeah. Graphic user: yeah, the user interface is the same. It’s the rocker with the potion and I don’t like that. I miss that.
[00:20:26] I like the push button, but anyway. So on that one, under the trim setup menu it had numbers, and then under the trim type for throttle was common digital, common digital, common digital is what it was. Yep, and so we were playing. Well, you were playing with the numbers, numbers trying to raise the number, and that actually did take a little bit of the clicks out. It took quite a bit. It moved it up more.
[00:20:50] Than like one spot. So instead of one click of trim being one click tidbit of resolution, one click would be five tidbits of resolution or whatever. I like that what I’m saying. So, but it did speed it up, but not like the two or three position, and when we were looking at it I was a
[00:21:07] Little leery to change the switch type I was. I had no clue what to do, right? So me too. I asked one of the guys at the field and he went and got his nx radio out and he actually showed me: this is exactly where you go. This is what you said it to. He actually said he uses two position, just up and down. But he said a lot of people do three. He said there’s no reason really, other than personal preference to do either. Yeah, but after that, yes, I called you and said hey, before I forget what he told me, this is what to do. That way you can forget what I told you after I forgot what he. No, I won’t.
[00:21:40] I won’t forget that because I’ll be using that same technique on mine when the time comes so yeah.
[00:21:45] Hopefully it well you could do that now actually on your since you have your that’s true receiver in.
[00:21:51] Yep and it’s all bound it’s all ready to I figured and I have all the throws measured and.
[00:21:56] Everything is said first time setups done and all that. So what did you think? Well, you’ve done it twice now, because you’ve done Reggie’s and yours. What do you think of the synapse setup? Well, I haven’t.
[00:22:06] Flown it yet. Right. But however, the first time setup is so easy- I mean it is, it is. It’s so easy a fool like me can do it and I’m gonna be honest, like an old school set in his ways it. It took me a little bit longer, probably, than someone younger and who’s used to that sort of programming.
[00:22:29] Language, not language, but steps, steps, yeah to it, and where to go, but I found it with a. I asked you a few questions on the first attempt, but on mine it was. It took me 10 minutes and not even probably.
[00:22:43] That’s the thing. Like I even got the nose wheel to work right off the bat. Yeah, isn’t that nice. That’s the thing. It was so quick and so easy to do. I thought I was missing something or doing.
[00:22:55] Something wrong well I knew I wasn’t on mine but yeah I felt the same way when I was working on.
[00:23:00] Reggie’s. Well, yeah, because the one I have is the first one I ever dealt with right and the first time setup you go through and it’s like four or five steps and you’re like that’s it is.
[00:23:08] That really it like so yeah, yeah, no, I think I’m I’m quite fond of the, of how easy the setup was, and I’m also looking forward to on the fly changes, like on the first flight I so something that stuck with me from go ahead, I’ll remember what I was going to say, just go on, okay. So something that stuck with me from our trip to joe noll this year was when we went to that seminar given by the horizon guys about the synapse. You remember that, yeah, yeah, and something that’s.
[00:23:44] That stuck with me. I believe ali said it. He said he had all he can get to a point where he does three laps, three circuits- he calls it three laps of the field- and he has all of his setup done for all of his flight modes, flaps, no flaps, landing flaps, whatever in three, in three circuits of the air. And that stuck with me and so I was thinking like, as I’m setting mine up, I’m like I can totally see how that’s possible, like how quickly you can. You can do that, especially when you have the knob, and then you capture the settings. At the end you’re done. Well, you can fine tune it later exactly.
[00:24:20] Very easily so yeah I’m really I’m really excited and looking forward to flying mine the first.
[00:24:26] Time and so I don’t think I have any changes in my gains. Okay, based on the, the flat position, yeah, but using f modes, I do have obviously different trims and stuff set up for the different class position.
[00:24:42] And well, you don’t need synapse to do that. You can assign flight modes and it’ll store. But like combining that with the, the gains, the gains and stuff, I mean like I can totally see dialing up the gain if I’m in a landing configuration and you can do that. You can do that just based on.
[00:25:03] The switch, which is amazing. What else I and gosh, I’m not. I can’t talk about it because I don’t remember every little thing. So I don’t want to give bad information, but I did have a nice long conversation with a guy about the gains and stuff on AS3X+ with what’s it called the. There’s that other AS3X+ plus now has that other setting in it. Whoa, stop lock, heading hold. No, it’s like stop lock. Yeah, yeah is.
[00:25:35] That what it’s called, or? Yeah, I know what you’re talking about. Yeah, yeah, where you can dial how sensitive you want it to be when it stops or starts a an input.
[00:25:49] I think I know what you’re talking about. But anyway, there’s a lot more adjustability into it that you can dial it in farther than just the basic gains, right, and, and he explained to me how to do that. But, like I said, I, if I had it in front of me and was kind of looking at the options and stuff, I could kind of talk you through it, yeah, but yeah, and pretty much the. There’s another number two. Oh, I, I’m gonna sound so stupid. There’s another number two that actually will tell, because I guess it’s number two.
[00:26:19] Number also. Wow, what is it? I don’t know. Well, there’s lots of lots there’s. Last I checked, there were three really helpful tutorials on spectrum’s website, just on the synapse alone, yeah.
[00:26:35] Okay, go through that and do that because it’s awesome. I watched those and I didn’t quite understand it. But actually after talking to him it like hit and all of a sudden it’s like: oh, I get it now. I just can’t remember what they’re called in order to tell you what you have to go to. But it’s is one of them- stop, stop my gosh, maybe. And then the other one is also what kind of curve you have, because obviously, when you’re at full aileron deflection you don’t have any gyro. I mean, it’s just completely off. It’s not trying to correct anything and you can set up the curve differently.
[00:27:10] As to how much gyro you have at each position. That’s handy also, yeah, but I don’t remember what that was called. But it doesn’t matter, priority, priority, that’s it. Yeah, so you can change that the higher you go. That’s what it’s called, and that is how much priority the stick takes over the gut or the gyro. Yes, exactly, thank you for remembering that. I feel better. Well, I remember.
[00:27:33] Seeing that in the menu the other night when I was tinkering with mine yeah so you can which I left.
[00:27:38] At the factory setting. But yeah, and actually after having had that stuff explained to me, I really want to go into a couple airplanes I have and mess more with that just to see. Because the way it was explained was, with your higher, okay, so with just a regular gyro where you don’t have the those other options, you tune it until you start to have the oscillation and then you back off so you lower your gains, right? You don’t really want to do that, like when it’s flying right before it starts.
[00:28:09] Oscillation, when it kind of gets to it. That’s where, apparently, where you want to have your gyro set up by changing the stop lock, then that will change when and how quickly it actually affects, not the extent to how much it does, but how quickly it actually takes control. Does that make sense, I think? I think I know if you change that you can actually have a higher gyro gain without having the bounces, and then by using you’re changing your stick priority you can change, yeah, how much you get.
[00:28:43] Based on where your sticks are too yeah there’s a lot more than I can oh nicely explain yeah but it.
[00:28:50] Is it’s such a capable like I sound like a salesman but it is like it was super easy for me to.
[00:28:56] Set up. Yeah, so listen to us who were completely against AS3X+- what two years ago? Yeah, well, yeah, we were. I think a lot has to do with learning more about it and not being old curmudgeons, true? So before I,
[00:29:12] Actually pulled the trigger and ordered my receiver, which came surprisingly quick. Granted, we’re only an hour from champagne, but anyway, I did download manuals for other gyro systems, like so, for example, the cortex pro, the, the, the flex, basically whatever, the one, the aurora, I think it’s called aura, yeah, yeah, the power box one that they make. I downloaded all the manuals and read them right, and I watched a few videos when the manuals didn’t make sense to me and it seems like especially
[00:29:50] With the, the cortex pro and, I believe, the aura pro. I think they make a pro version. Forgive me if I’m not, but they make a. They make like a, a basic one, and then the higher, the higher optioned one, it. It seems like they do they. They are capable of doing the same things with what we’re calling about the stick priority and the stop lock, which may or may not be the right term. Forgive us, but it seems like these other systems, they have those capabilities also.
[00:30:21] But the programming is not nearly- and I’m not going to say intuitive, because even the spectrum one to me is not what I would call intuitive. It’s easy, but it’s not like just do it and not ever having done it before, you’re an expert at it. What I mean, yeah, but these other systems are a little, in some cases a lot more difficult, at least for curmudgeon- thanks, that’s a good word- like me to understand. So, yes, it’s an expensive system, but you have to remember it’s a receiver.
[00:30:53] And gyro. It’s like the two items that you would normally have to purchase separately, and it’s power, safe and it’s- yeah, yeah, so 20 channels and it’s integrated, like it’s. It’s designed to work with my spectrum transmitter, so the telemetry I didn’t have to, it’s all. It happens automatically, which.
[00:31:13] For an old curmudgeon like me, I appreciate. So what I was going to say before, when I was talking to him about the, what we call the f-stops or whatever, the, that other adjustment- yeah, because I. I asked him. I said, well, how do you do that? Because he’s talking about adjusting two things in flight. You have the rotary knob that we use for gains. Right, he said he actually doesn’t use the knob, he uses the top right trimmer and top left trimmer, not the, not the rocker, not the rocker behind there, but the.
[00:31:44] Trimmer that are on top, and he said that he does that because, first off, you can do both of them at the same time, he can adjust them separate. And then the thing that I never even thought of, that makes that like completely what we should be doing: that saves with the model, whereas your rotary knob.
[00:32:09] Doesn’t so the values saves with your model. If you change it to another model, then those values go to whatever it is for that new model. Does that make sense, so you can have constant adjustability without actually locking your gain settings and f-stops or whatnot into your gyro?
[00:32:27] At all times. Hmm, are you following me? I don’t think so. So, okay, let’s just talk about gains, only about games. When you’re setting up your AS3X+ plus or your synapse, you have your gyro gains that are on the right knob and that’s what we use for adjustment right in order, until you lock them in, well, and or until you capture them right. So you, you would leave that where it is, go in your capture menu and then capture that and then you disable, and then you disable it. Yes, but what you can do?
[00:32:59] Instead of using that knob as your adjustment, you can use the trimmers. Okay, and then, instead of having that get locked in, you can still leave that trimmer as an adjustment if you want, and you don’t have to worry about the knob being in the wrong spot for being bumped or being something like that. See what you’re saying. And then, okay, that trimmer setting stays. Saves with the model gotcha. Yeah,
[00:33:21] That makes. That makes a lot of sense. Digital trim just works like any other tram. It remembers it right. Right, it’s still functional if you need to change it down the road without right doing.
[00:33:29] Anything without locking it in. So it’s, it’s, it’s. Yeah, I, I follow what you’re saying. So it’s basically: you don’t have to worry about spinning the knob accidentally when the transmitter’s off and then trying to remember where it was at because you’ve got it on a rocker switches or, sorry, a trimmer, right.
[00:33:44] Remembers it as if it was a trim. No, that makes perfect sense. Or be lazy like me and when I flew the f-18 and then flew the creek, completely forgot that I had the gains set on the knob and I didn’t lock them in. I’ll just say we know how this ended up, yeah, yeah. So I took off with the f-18 after I had everything set up on the creek and that thing just started rocking back and forth and after like three seconds- or not even that, because it was pretty quick- I was like: okay, I just got to turn.
[00:34:14] This down but that would not have happened had I had those trimmed nope I’m trying with those trimmers.
[00:34:19] Yeah, and you’re absolutely right. Yeah, if we’re not going to disable on the fly trim, adjust or gain adjustments, then we should absolutely have them on those trimmers. Yeah, or put them on those trimmers.
[00:34:29] Just so you can change your stop lock and your gains at the same time. Same time, yep, but that’s I mean. Yeah, that’s something we can, we can mess around with and learn a little bit more about, but yeah,
[00:34:40] I thought that was kind of cool, but yeah, anyway. So yeah, I, you asked me how I, how I liked it. I like it very much, me too. I’m glad I, I’m glad I went that direction. I went, yeah, I mean I wasn’t sure if you were going to- and honestly like, so, let’s say, I had bought a power safe receiver minus synapse. The cheapest one is 279, I think. Maybe, I don’t know, I think that’s the 12 channel one, I think 14, maybe 14. The 14 channel one, I believe, is 279, so 280 bucks. The cortex pro is about 140 bucks. Oh, is it okay? So I mean,
[00:35:19] You’re only. You’re only another just shy of a hundred dollars more to get something that’s integrated and designed to work with my transmitter. Yeah, that I don’t even have to think about. Almost, almost don’t.
[00:35:32] Have to even think about programming it well let’s be honest either of those options are more than we.
[00:35:38] Will ever know about. Oh, you can do with them, oh for sure. And let’s be completely honest- we- you mentioned it 10 minutes ago, whatever it was that two years ago we were poo-pooing AS3X+. You don’t need AS3X+ or gyros even really to fly these jets these days. Like your MB-339 flies- so nice I can imagine it flies almost as nice without the gyro. I will say that plane does not need it, but there are some that do. Absolutely like, if you’re going to get into the thrust vectoring and the jets like
[00:36:11] The like I’ve noticed, like the, the delta wing jets. They are very. They benefit from AS3X+ or gyros. But yeah, for the jets that I’m planning on flying, at least in the near future, I AS3X+ is probably not a necessity but it’s a nice to have. Yeah, and this one is very easy to program. I agree so wholeheartedly. So there you go. Pretty soon there will be three jets in the group, maybe four someday.
[00:36:42] Long way away I mean well you Reggie I’ll have mine eventually there’s three oh I count yours as.
[00:36:53] Being already I thought there was there’s no engine it’s not a jet yet well it’s still.
[00:36:58] Airframe. It’s an airframe with only servos anyway. So yeah, Reggie’s jets good to go, yours is good to go soon. Hopefully, spring mine will be good to go, and then mine is good to go soon.
[00:37:13] I said, and then soon, hopefully, mine will be. Oh, I, I’m sorry, I thought you said yours. Then we’ll work on dave and daniel to get jets. I think so. No, that’s what I said two years ago. Me too, I have no.
[00:37:26] Interest in jet that’s what I said that’s what I said a couple years ago until I went to the.
[00:37:30] Well, until I saw them flying. No, let me put it this way: if, if I can fly my jet next year as much as I’m flying my viper this year, I will be extremely ecstatic. I don’t see a reason why that shouldn’t.
[00:37:48] Be, I agree, like. I mean I understand the viper is convenient because you just have to worry about batteries, but I mean that mb, that jet of yours, flies super, super nice. Yes, and I need more flights.
[00:38:01] On it to get more used to it and be. I don’t see why that would be a problem at all. I know I don’t either, and especially if there’s more of us that have jets. I just don’t go over there by myself to do it right. But yeah, yeah, I’m looking forward to it. I think we have two more things right. Yeah, I’ll talk about a couple things. First off, speaking of vipers, we recorded. We recorded one day early last time and we missed the release of the 64 millimeter viper through horizon, through e-flight, whatever. Yeah, I’ll be honest, I was super excited about this until I saw it did not have
[00:38:40] Retractable gear? Yeah like, I even saw the gear on there and I thought that really looks like retractable gear. No, it’s not. I don’t even have a picture of it. But no, it’s not retractable gear, it’s removable, which killed it for me. Otherwise I, if it was retractable, probably would have ordered.
[00:38:58] One so now how we feel about painted canopies is that I mean painted canopy is a look.
[00:39:05] I feel as though there’s functionality with retractable gear I mean that’s like saying I’m not.
[00:39:14] Going to buy it because it’s got a blue wing I would have had an f86 by now if it wasn’t painted.
[00:39:21] Canopy but it’s never going to happen I have no interest it also does not have retractable gear.
[00:39:28] Well there you go it’s a double negative double negative that means it’s a positive right I guess.
[00:39:36] But anyway. So yeah, 64 millimeter, just a shrunken down version of their 70.. You should buy a 70 and they’re 90.. Okay, so here’s the other thing that made me really want this airplane: the 64 batteries. It runs on a 4s 2200 to 4s 3200 battery. Guess what I have? I know all of them.
[00:39:59] I have both of those. The 70 flies well. Now, having put a few flights on Reggie’s old 90, the 90 flies better. It’s just bigger. Bigger is better. But the 70 is so sweet so it’s a great size. It fits in the car.
[00:40:17] Yes, gonna be honest, I’ve never dealt with the 70. How do the wings come off? Two bolts, two from where the center, so from inside the fuselage or from underneath, underneath, so each wing has two. No, each wing it’s a one piece wing. That’s a one piece. Yeah, it’s big, it’s. Yeah, I didn’t know that.
[00:40:41] And some very short cords if I remember right so plugging it in is fun yeah plugging is not a.
[00:40:47] Lot of fun which is why I leave it in one piece because it fits in the car in one piece and that’s.
[00:40:51] Why 70 is ideal? Because you don’t have to take it apart, exactly. So the 90 you do take apart, but it’s nice because, as a quick, plugs on the wing, yeah, and so you literally just unplug it or plug it back in just by putting the wing in, yes, and then it has two screws on each wing that hold them, yeah, and then two wing tubes, a bigger one and a smaller one. So on the 70, then I’m assuming noses removal removable, no, no, oh really, oh, it can’t be 90, run into the right things. Yeah, the 90, it’s, just it’s.
[00:41:23] Magnetized on, yeah, wing tips removable. No, so on the 90, the, the winglets are removable. What else, oh, the, what, what, the strakes or the ventral fins, yeah, no, okay that they are on this one or on the 90.
[00:41:38] Also, yes, which I like. Yes, it makes a lot easier. But when you fold the gear up on the 70, I mean it fits in the like with room to spare in the back of both of my vehicles. Yeah, when I had it, I took and stood.
[00:41:51] It up gear retracted I stood up on its edge and used the rear seat belts they’ll just hold it up.
[00:41:55] Against the wall of the car. That’s not a bad idea. Yeah, I mean it’s just to me that viper seven, I mean the 64 millimeter version, looks cool. I, I like the yellow. I’m sure that size is even more convenient, but for me the gear kind of kills it for me too, yeah, which is why I like the 70..
[00:42:15] I wish I would have paid attention to how big but honestly though size like you could get a 70.
[00:42:21] And you could buy- I mean, really you could buy- one battery for it and with our s2200 chargers, because how often do you go to the field and take only one airplane more recently, lately? Okay, so if you’re taking the, the MB-339, if you don’t count that one, I’m not counting that, I’m talking about the viper.
[00:42:42] So you only take the viper. I took the slow ultra stick last couple times but it didn’t make it out of the car and I also took the car. So if I take the truck, yes, I throw quite a bit more in there. Okay, but for pretty much the whole fly-in that I attended by myself and the last meeting I just took the car, because it’s a hell of a lot cheaper to drive. Even two batteries would be plenty.
[00:43:07] For a 70 millimeter viper with our chargers probably, and one under most circumstances would be enough because, like I said, rarely do I go to the field and only take one airplane to fly. So you fly the 70, put the battery on the charger, go fly another airplane. By the time you’re done flying that airplane and bs them with the guys that other battery is ready to go. I’m gonna be honest, though.
[00:43:31] I’m to the point now where the only thing I really want to fly is the 90. Okay, like I, that I. I just enjoy that so much. Well then, you don’t need a 70 then, or a 64. Well, 64 maybe, but only if it had retractable gear, which it doesn’t, so it’s out but anyway. So it is 42.2 Inches wingspan. I wish I knew the wingspans on the other ones, because I should have had that to compare. And then length is 36.77 Inches, price: 269.99. Bind and fly, that’s the other thing. That’s nice. The viper 90 is what? 650..
[00:44:09] Yeah it’s up there yeah but worth it and the batteries are up there too the batteries are 100 and.
[00:44:16] Some bucks a piece, but yeah, close to 200, I think. No, I think the 5, 120 c batteries are like one. I want to say 159, 169, something like that. I haven’t paid that much, I wanted to say they were 129, not those are the 30 c. I think that’s the lower c rating ones, because I looked just the other day because I was gonna well, because I acquired a viper and I’m gonna have to buy at least one battery.
[00:44:45] Yeah, but 30 c is still enough, is it though? I mean, I don’t know, I thought I thought you the higher c rating you wanted to go with. Well, that’s 150 amps at 30 c. That’s what it’s ready to pull out, because
[00:44:57] It’s 5 000 milliamp hour battery so that’s five amp hours okay multiply that by 30 so that means you.
[00:45:03] Can safely pull out 150 amps, what size it puts the speed control rated at 120. I wanted to say 120, okay, yeah, but anyway, either way, I guess a higher c rating is not necessary and I think on some
[00:45:17] Of the higher c ratings too they’re kind of fudging numbers anyway well but they yeah like all of them.
[00:45:24] But generally, I think, generally speaking, once you go higher c rating, don’t you go lower resistance? Yeah, it lowers your internal resistance. That’s how you get that. Yeah, that’s how you get that. So that should theoretically give you more available power. Right, you’re still only going to pull.
[00:45:44] It can only pull as much as it can pull. Yeah, you just get it out faster. Yeah, the funnel is there to get it out faster. Let me ask you this: why bother with c rating? Then? Well, because there are some, like smaller batteries that you have to watch. That, like, if you’re buying a- I’m just going to make up numbers- a 2200, that’s 10c, then you’re only able to pull out 22, point, yeah, 22 amps out of it, whereas
[00:46:15] If you’re running it on a 40 amp speed controller, that’s not going to work. But if you have a 4s or a- sorry, a 2200 milliamp hour battery that’s rated for 50 c, then that will work in that higher amp draw it’s.
[00:46:30] Like trying to drink through a straw versus a garden hose no that’s that was the analogy I was trying to.
[00:46:36] Make so if there’s more resistance in the hose you get less water overall but if you’re only drinking.
[00:46:42] An ounce a minute. You don’t have to worry about drinking through a garden hose. A small fun or a small yeah, I mean, is that yeah, I don’t know if that, so you’re limited by not necessarily the.
[00:46:53] The internal resistance but by the capacity of the you’re only pulling so much out okay so as long.
[00:47:00] As you’re over, as long as you’re rating, no matter what the c is, as long as that c rating is higher than what you’re pulling out, you’re fine. There’s no restriction. There’s no, no need to get a 50 or 100 c if a 30 c actually works out to be okay number wise, okay, when you do the math, does that make sense? Sure, I mean, does it actually? I mean because I’m you’re just saying that now, no, I’m not go the highest c.
[00:47:27] Rating you can that way you’re not going to have to worry about it yeah the 30 c is 130 bucks.
[00:47:36] 100, C is 149. 149 For a 6s, yeah, and that’s 5 000 because they’re doing a 7 000 now too. Yeah, that’s 5 000. 7 000 Can be more expensive and I haven’t. I mean like I don’t know, I don’t know if I want the extra weight. I like the way it flies on that. So the 7 000 is probably what you’re talking about. The
[00:47:58] 30 C is 180. I don’t know the extra flight time might be worth the sacrifice or weight.
[00:48:08] Yeah, maybe, but then it’s longer charge time too. Anyway, okay, anything else we want to talk about on that? Nope, so I think our main topic, which is probably not going to be that long that I wanted to bring up, was actually a question. Reggie asked the three of us individually and, I think, without telling the others. Yeah, well, he told me he talked to you. Oh, he didn’t say that to me. Well, he would have talked to you first, so he wouldn’t have talked to me. By that point. I don’t know when he talked to dave, he may.
[00:48:40] Have talked to dave first. I don’t know, find out anyway. So he asked: he bought an airplane- it’s fw 190 that has the swastika on it and he asked about taking that off or what he should do. So the question is, when are airplane markings offensive? And that was something I never, ever even thought about, because it’s to me it’s a scale airplane from that time frame and those were the markings that
[00:49:11] Were on the airplane that’s what it was so having models of it I don’t think anything else I can.
[00:49:17] Understand how that would upset certain individuals, but unfortunately it doesn’t bother me. So why is that unfortunate? Yeah, I don’t. I feel like I don’t have empathy for these people that.
[00:49:32] Are offended by it I don’t think we are affected in the same way yeah I don’t I don’t associate the.
[00:49:37] Marking the swastika. I don’t really associate that. Like I’m. I’m far enough removed from the events that happened in world war ii that seeing that emblem evokes no emotional response within me. It’s a scale airplane that has a scale paint scheme on it and scale markings. I only see that as a representation of something that existed in a certain time period. I it doesn’t.
[00:50:12] You don’t take all the baggage with it, right exactly? I mean I’m not saying I don’t, I don’t feel for the victims of the holocaust and all the other stuff and the nasty, terrible things that group did to another group. I’m not saying that at all. What I’m saying is the just seeing the implement is not enough to spark an emotional response within me.
[00:50:33] But that’s just me right it’s supposed to be on a scale aircraft from that country yeah and.
[00:50:40] That’s what I told Reggie, I said. I said it’s a scale airplane. If people are offended by it, I feel like that’s a them problem, not a you problem, just because you happen to have an airplane scale.
[00:50:52] Airplane that has a scale marking now if I ever see that on extra I would have a problem with that.
[00:50:57] Individual who did that. I might- that’s what I said- like it’s got to be the right airplane, exactly. But as long as it is historical and historically accurate, then yeah. Yeah, you can take that with other airplanes too. I mean, it’s not just the swastika, but they’re any. Any enemy aircraft could be seen as a negative. I’ve got some russian stuff and I’ve been a little hesitant to fly them.
[00:51:19] Because of what’s going on now. You’re correct, yeah, but I mean I’ve got my migs. I love my migs. That have nothing to do with now. I’ve been a little hesitant to take them out to the field, just.
[00:51:30] Because of the markings on them so then you have been affected some sort by I don’t want to offend.
[00:51:37] Anybody. See, I guess, I guess I just don’t care. I mean, I hate to put it in that, but in the simplest of terms, I don’t and I don’t care. Like if, if my airplane, whatever, is on my airplane now, I’m not going to go out of my way to try to offend people, right. But if, if my airplane, my the big stick, it has iron crosses on it or whatever you want to call those things, they’re not, they’re not. They are actual world war one. Multi crosses, yeah, multi. Thank you insignia.
[00:52:16] And maybe there are people out there that would be offended by seeing that, but I don’t care. It’s a them problem, not a me problem. Just because it’s on my airplane doesn’t mean that is my ideal. What I’m saying, I don’t that’s what’s historically been on sticks, though I mean right, yeah, like that, but I’m just using that as an example. I don’t I feel no kind of way about any.
[00:52:37] Of the markings that are on any of my airplanes other than they’re correct they’re correct for that.
[00:52:42] Airplane- that’s that’s what I’m concerned about- and not illegal as in some- well, I guess, in some- areas of the world probably, yeah, you’re not allowed to do that. Maybe they don’t have the freedoms that we have here, but yeah, either way, here in our country we can have the stuff on our airplanes and not be breaking any kind of laws. Yeah, just, I found that to be an interesting question.
[00:53:09] Because like I said it never really crossed my mind it’s a provocative question yeah evokes thought and.
[00:53:14] Prove. Yeah, but that’s my opinion, yeah, mine too. Your mileage may vary. I don’t want to upset anybody, but also I want my aircraft to be accurate. Yeah, and I’m pretty sure, like in scale competitions.
[00:53:30] Like, if you, if you’re into that sort of thing- if your airplane doesn’t have the correct markings on it, you actually get points taken off because of that. So, from a modeling perspective, I do not associate any emotion with markings that are on any of- yeah, I don’t either- airplanes.
[00:53:51] Oh it’s a lot harder to have a discussion when we’re on the same page I guess well I mean yeah.
[00:53:58] Then yeah that should be fairly telling I would say I own one aircraft with swastikas on it and.
[00:54:05] Because they’re correct, so do I. I’ve not flown it yet. Now I’ve got a lot of stuff. Yeah, you need to process and iron crosses on it because it’s world war one stuff. But yeah, the swastika, I’ve only got the one airplane and yep, and you’re not about to take it off and I’m not going to take it off, thank you. It’s the me 163. Oh, that’s right. The comment. Yeah, we talked.
[00:54:26] About that the rocket plane right out of my mind it likes to explode randomly yeah although it did put.
[00:54:32] On a good show at joe noll. That was awesome. So anyway, yeah, it was a. It was a good question, it was definitely thought-provoking and I’m kind of wondering what brought it up. Well, because he just bought the airplane. Well I he didn’t tell you what happened. So, oh, where he bought the airplane? He bought it at his favorite place in champagne, slot wing, and I guess- and it was done in jest, right then, nobody meant anything by it, but I guess one of the folks that worked there as he was taking it out,
[00:55:02] Made some comment: oh, Reggie, you better be careful where you take that airplane or who you show that airplane to, or whatever. Just be just trying to be funny. I think I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean anything by it. And then that got Reggie to thinking and then he thought: oh, maybe I better talk to some people. So, okay, no, I didn’t hear that story. Yeah. So, yeah, I had no idea what brought it up. Yeah, as he was carrying it out of the place, he purchased it. One of the employees was like: hey, made it, made it just a silly little comment. That got him thinking. So, okay, that’s well, at least he’s.
[00:55:37] Thinking I guess, yeah, yeah, I mean good, good for him, but I don’t think he’s in any danger of offending anybody, at least around here. Just don’t take it to the holocaust survivor meeting.
[00:55:48] Let’s be honest that plane probably won’t be around very long anyway I wasn’t gonna say that.
[00:55:54] It’s yeah. So if, for those four of you who are still listening, we would love to hear what you think, let us know, let us know. Yeah, that’s, you just scared me blankly. Are we wrong? Are we right? Yeah, I mean, there probably is no right or wrong answer, right, but I would be interested in hearing other people’s perspectives. [00:56:28] Can also hit us up on facebook. On our facebook page, you can also call the phone number and leave a message which I can never remember. That number 1-888 something. No, it’s not, dang it. Yes, I’m not.
[00:56:44] Going to say it because I there’s two numbers in my head that are really close, and one of them you should not be calling, so I don’t want to give the number out. Listen to the end of the program. It.
[00:56:53] Will be on there oh yeah oh good idea it is on the close so continue listening please.
[00:56:59] Yeah I’d love to hear what you guys and gals if there’s gals listening what you guys think.
[00:57:04] About that topic. Okay, well, I think I’m all spent. How about you guys? Sure, I mean, I guess I won’t talk about preparing my nitro planes or have at it, that’s perfect. No, we can say no, no, no, let’s go.
[00:57:16] Actually, we talked about what I’m going to talk. What do you got? I’m talking right now, talk. Now you’re doing this, talk about what you got, and you need to do this while I’m talking. Zip it, zip it. So yeah, we talked briefly about, before we started recording, whether we should remind folks that, at least here in the midwest and the north, that the winter is coming, winter is coming. Time to start thinking about putting the airplanes away. See, I forgot, because I don’t have
[00:57:44] It written down like you do yeah see right here so good that’s why I said do you have anything else.
[00:57:48] I, I think, I think it would be more appropriate to talk about it perhaps on the next episode. We’ll we’ll run down the checklist, the end of season checklist that we like to talk about this time every year, because here in the midwest we don’t get to fly year-round, so
[00:58:04] Or it might be time to start putting floats on your planes or floats and snow work really well.
[00:58:09] Yeah I heard that I was talking to somebody the other day that floats actually work better than.
[00:58:13] Skis I’ve had a set of skis which I’ve misplaced I have an airplane that has all three.
[00:58:17] Oh I don’t float skis and regular I don’t own skis my flying boat flies wonderfully off of snow.
[00:58:23] You have a sea wind that would fly probably pretty well. I think so too. Yeah, so the only problem is when it’s snowy out. It’s cold out, and I don’t like cold. At this point, that’s true. You, you do not like.
[00:58:34] Really cold weather I have a small window it’s very small it’s getting smaller 63.2 Degrees that’s.
[00:58:40] Your window that’s the low about 63.2 Degrees is at any rate I think more appropriate to.
[00:58:48] Talk on the next episode because I’m preparing all my nitro planes for hopefully one last flight.
[00:58:53] Before the season’s over. Well, make a note, because if you don’t, we’re not going to talk about it. I’m writing it down right now and then I guess we’ll just leave that on the table. Oh look, you’re right, you’re writing and not even look at that, and I can even read it. I can read it.
[00:59:10] Put your planes away. Oh, that’s not. That’ll be the reminder. That’s all the reminder I need. That’s all you need, cool, so we’ll talk about that on the next episode. Well, anything else, hopefully I’ll have something next time. Yeah, no kidding dave. Well, yeah, now that you’re, now that your truck is up and running again, you will have plenty of talk to talk about, because, well, you can’t buy anything new, so you’re.
[00:59:31] Gonna have to fix the stuff you have. Oh yeah, I have zero fundage. Oh yeah, all that’s it for me. All my airplane money I made over the last winter selling stuff well gone. Yeah, it happens. But I do have a new purchase I really want to do and we’ll talk about that. I’ll talk about that down the road, okay.
[00:59:52] Speaking of, the decatur swap meet is coming up next month. We must go to that, yeah, and I don’t have to teach class. Somebody took my class, oh good, yay, that’s good. I love that. Perhaps we can all go. I think we should be sweet. We’ll take a big vehicle. No, I don’t want to buy anything actually, but I’m going to. I don’t want to. We’ll take the trailer. God, we better not need a trailer, oh, but
[01:00:13] You never know it’s better. Daniel always takes his trailer. I mean he, I mean, yes, okay, okay, hey. Well, speaking of that, sorry, sure, no. Last line, cool, if we’re going to go to the decatur swap meet, do you think that would be the right venue to try to sell the beast, or do you guys should wait for?
[01:00:30] To go to toledo. It needs to go to toledo. I would agree with that copy. That, yeah, I think decatur is. I mean it’s it’s a great swap meet, but I would it’s more small things, like it’s not big airplanes.
[01:00:43] Like that. Okay, you’re selling the beast though. Huh yeah, it’s like we discussed. I have reached, I have found the limit, the size limit for what I can reliably get in and out of my house without.
[01:00:58] Damaging and the beast has surpassed that limit. But see, I think where we differ is you see that, as you need to make your airplane smaller, I see that, as you need to make your storage area bigger,
[01:01:12] Or your house bigger. It’s not the size of the house, it’s the exit. It’s that 90 degree turn at the top of the stairs, degree turn at the top of the steps. That’s the killer. Okay, like the double vision biplane is about perfect. Well, not perfect, it’s max. Like I can get it and make that turn without damaging the airplane. Relatively easy, the beast I mean. Without lori helping me get it out of the house. It is nearly impossible for me to get it out of that, out of that area without banging the stab.
[01:01:48] Against the wall or catching the gear on the handrail, or we’re hitting the prop on the door. I mean it’s just, I love that, I love that airplane but and it flies- well, you’ve seen it fly. It flies great it does. Anyway, yes, I have made the difficult decision to I think I’m going to sell it, so I don’t think we need a trailer for two leaders to leto. Yeah well, I mean, I’ve already got plenty. It’ll fit in the traverse. I can take the traverse up there. Yep, we all have to have room.
[01:02:22] Maybe I’ll have a trailer by then too. Who knows? We’ll see. I hope if you do awesome, if not, we’ll figure it out. If I don’t, then boo, we’ll borrow one. There you go, if we have to, or daniel’s coming.
[01:02:32] I’m sure we can. Yeah, we’ll be dragging that blue thing, all right, in space. We’ll invite ourselves to use necessary. Well, I won’t need space coming home and you guys probably don’t need space going there. So it works out. I’m gonna dump a bunch of stuff. Oh, are you? Yeah, oh, that’s unfortunate, I don’t want.
[01:02:48] To but I gotta I understand I was there last year yeah this is going to be a big year for getting.
[01:02:54] Rid of some stuff- for me too, just to make more room for new. I mean, it’s a it’s a revolving door. You don’t know what you like until you get everything and try it and you keep what you like and the stuff.
[01:03:03] That’s it’s time to move on and you’ve discovered that you really like edfs oh my gosh that’s stupid.
[01:03:09] But yes but true I’ve got plans I haven’t flown in five years it’s time to go so do I but that.
[01:03:16] Just means next year’s goal should be fly everything I think I might do that I am actually nearly there.
[01:03:21] This year? Yeah, without, without trying to do it. Well, that was your last year goal, wasn’t it? It was, and I succeed, you did it. Yeah, but like, if I can, if this weekend pans out and I can fly all my nitro stuff, you’re good, I’ll be there. Nice, I will have flown everything that is flyable. Well, I hope.
[01:03:36] We can make it out this week me too okay that’s it good I’m done good night good night good night.
