No, I can attest it's not as easy as it seems, especially when you put attest it's not as easy as it seems especially when you put them on the spot like that i asked before we even started you were staring at him intently oh with a judgy eyes exactly good job babe for your first time that was that was well

[0:37] done yay second time actually did the i don't remember the first time it was just as bad I don't remember. Did the first time go better? It was just as bad. Well, at least he's honest. That is true. Gentlemen, how are you? Wonderful. Great. Good. So we went to Toledo. Oh, gosh. We had a good time. As per usual. Let's talk Toledo this episode. This episode. All about our trip. What we did, what we sold, what we bought. What we saw. What we conquered. What I came, I saw, I conquered.

[1:14] What we overcame. Whatever it is. Sure. All of that. Everything. It was a successful weekend, I would say, for most of that. I came home with more money than I left with.'s awesome that's wonderful that will all get spent and that happens well I can say I got off topic I'm sorry did you yes it's good no I said it will get spent there I didn't say we're gonna talk about it well that's hard to do it's hard it's getting close so So, it's hard not to talk about it. Toledo is home.

[1:47] We left very early in the morning. We did. Thursday morning, I think we were in the car and on the road by 5.06 p.m., which means, Tommy, not p.m. That's not early. Well, some people probably think 5 p.m. is early, but… Yeah, which means you came out to my house and picked me up then, so you probably left your house at like, I don't know. 5.30-ish. Yeah, because I had to unload some stuff so we could put the tables in the car. So, yeah, it was an early day. It was a long drive. It was.

[2:19] But I liked the time we got there. I do, too. Yeah, we got there at a good time. I mean, the place was already back quarter full yeah a little bit more than that maybe i mean it was there was already a lot of yeah trading and swapping going on when we got there and you guys dave and daniel arrived shortly after we did yeah we were a little bit behind it's gonna sound about shortly i think

[2:42] i had already sold an airplane by the time you got there actually yeah i forgot about that yeah you do that though somehow like when you're carrying stuff i bring good stuff what i don't know what did you sell first i didn't think it was all that good it was the glider the big glider oh yeah yeah i forgot all about that airplane yeah i did too until just now so obviously i don't miss it right yeah so anyway yeah trading was already going on by the time we arrived and we got there what it

[3:11] was like right at it was before one o'clock local there yeah so yeah we were a little after one one almost 1 30 i think you guys weren't maybe an hour behind us yeah yeah it wasn't too bad we were a little late there was an atm issue before we left, so we were dragging behind. Well, and not only that, but you guys pulled the trailer so you don't drive as fast. Right. And over a, what, five to six, I don't remember what the actual drive time is. Six. Six-hour drive. It adds up.

[3:38] Five miles an hour makes a huge difference. It does. That's a half-hour distance driving time. If you do that. If you do that time we had to have i'm sure an extra fuel stop so yeah i think we only stopped once yeah we had two actually we stopped once period now well twice we stopped once on the way there and then the same spot on the way well that's what i'm saying we only stopped once on the way there they may have stopped more than once yeah we had two fuel stops. Yeah.

[4:06] So that adds time. I'm not surprised. But luckily, Daniel pulled the trailer and got to take all of our stuff, with them. Pretty much, yeah. So it was handy. There was some stuff in my car, which weird, like most of our stuff was in Daniel's trailer, but I still couldn't see out the back of my car for some reason. Well, you had a lot more than I expected when you pulled in. Yeah, I did.

[4:31] Like, I thought we were going to have room for a simple bag of luggage for me and a couple tables. And then you pulled in, and I'm like, what? Where is my stuff going to go? What? Where is my stuff going to go? Well, honestly, I didn't put as much in Daniel's trailer as I was planning because I wanted to make sure I left room for Daniel's stuff because he hadn't put his stuff in the trailer yet when he came over to my house to grab my stuff. So I just put the two airplanes,

[4:58] and I didn't put any of the boxed stuff in the trailer. So all the boxed stuff, which takes up a lot of room, was in the back of the car. I guess I didn't either. That also had to ride with us. Right. It's okay. Yeah, I still couldn't see out the trailer. So all the boxed stuff, which takes up a lot of room, was in the back of the car. I guess I didn't either. That also had to ride with us. Right. So it's okay. Yeah, I still couldn't see out the back, but I could on the

[5:10] way home. Oh, you couldn't? It was even worse on the way home. Well, I could see out the back. How? Yeah, there was like a… Periscope that he installed on the roof. There was like a channel right down the center that I could see out the back. I thought we were loaded more coming home. I think we were, but there was a channel that I could see out the back. I thought we were loaded more coming home. I think we were, but there was a channel that I could see out the back.

[5:29] Oh, we had to take the cars with us both ways too. I forgot about that. We'll talk about that in a little bit too. Yes. My first, second, whatever, RC car racing experience. Yeah. Would be my first carpet. Okay. Because I think the last time I did it was an indoor dirt track. Yeah, up in Lincoln. Yep. Okay. Because I think the last time I did it was an indoor dirt track. Yeah, up in Lincoln. Mm-hmm. Yep. But anyway, so also I was kind of excited. We stayed on site. Tommy and I did.

[5:53] Yeah, that worked out. I mean, it was really nice being able to get up in the morning and not have to factor in 20 minutes, half hour, whatever, to get to the event. Like you can just wake up and walk downstairs and we're there. So I'm a nerd. And I can tell you that it was from the door of our hotel room to the entrance of the swap meet, 132 steps and less than three. And an elevator ride. Well, but you're standing still, so still. True. 132 steps and less than three minutes

[6:34] with the elevator ride. And we were on the 13th floor. Unlucky for some, but not for us. Yeah, so I know it was a little more than what we've normally paid to stay away from the event but i'm happy paying that extra from now on just for the sheer convenience of parking is parking was fairly reasonable i thought for for parking at a

[6:59] downtown underneath the facility that you're actually staying at, I felt like the parking was fairly reasonable. It's like 15 bucks for a day, basically 24 hours. I thought it was like 20, but then it was 15. Because I had to pay it the last time. And I remember it was 15. Okay. But anyway, yeah, I'll gladly pay the 30 or 40 bucks extra overall per day to stay there. Me too. Yeah, just we need to try and talk Dave and Daniel into. That's not happening. You guys paid.

[7:38] My entire weekend was what you guys paid for one night. So, no. I don't think. For 15 minutes, no. That can can't be i don't think that math like 150 a night plus parking right divided by two so yeah well i did the whole hotel bill oh well then there's the difference yeah i was i was 175 for the entire weekend okay so that's I was $175 for the entire weekend. Okay, so that's, $150 each plus the parking. Yeah, so yeah, it's double the price.

[8:13] So no, I'm going to drive 15 minutes. Well, make Daniel pay his share and then it'll be a lot less. No, he bought the fuel. I didn't buy any gas. Oh, okay. Well, I guess. See, that's where we saved money on fuel. Yeah, but however, we also got them to take our airplanes we probably owe him a few bucks i forgot about that yeah we do yeah yeah so for 15 minute drive time i'm not going to spend that extra money i'm cheap i want to get comfortable

[8:38] i like having the the room there it was a nice room. It was a big room, actually. What actually saved a bunch of money, too, this will show how weird I am, we were able to actually, in the hotel room, keep soda. Because I drink soda. Instead of paying the $8 for a soda there, we just got a six-pack of bottles. It was cheaper than that. So I saved like $40 on that easily. So that

[9:03] counts for something, darn it. That's difference in in cost of the hotel room you could still do that staying where they stay you just have to take it in with you all of it so we just left the truck it stayed cool yeah we had a refrigerator in the room yeah so we did free ice i don't know i i've done both i've stayed away from the place now and at the place, and I will spend the extra money just for the convenience. And the rooms are really, really nice.

[9:27] I'm going to say the Super 8 in Mommy has got the nicest Super 8 rooms I've ever ran across. Really? Yeah. What did we say last year? Super 8 in Mommy. Did they? Okay, I'm not. Yeah. You just got a bad room, but I've never had a bad room. Did they fix the bullet holes on the outside of the building? There were no bullet holes in the outside of the building there were no bullet holes in the building yes there were two you don't remember when we got

[9:49] out and Daniel's like is that a bullet hole like oh sure looks like it now the Wendy's you take a picture of that I might have actually I'm gonna have to try and spend a lot of time outside by the way I thought I might be next it's still temporarily closed from last year oh remember it burned yeah yeah it's still temporary it's temporary well they're waiting for the insurance but there's a brand new chick-fil-a across the

[10:14] street there's a chick-fil-a yeah well see you didn't tell me that ron that there was a chick-fil-a there i don't think there was last year was there no there wasn't it's brand new so how would I know wait a minute I'm fine with that I like Chick-fil-A blame me I blame you okay they're the Chick-fil-A truck at Joan Hall that's true would you stop we can always bring that in but

[10:39] anyway it was a good time and I agree it's worth staying or worth the extra money staying did to do with traffic and all that stuff, too, because I thought Daniel said one of the days you guys came, the lot was full underneath. For some reason or another, the parking garage on Friday was full at 8.30 in the morning. Yeah, people were swapping. Yeah. Yeah, there's no way that entire garage was full at 8.30 in the morning. Did you see the line?

[11:05] Like, I walked out. I don't remember what time it was. It was a little bit before 9. I was going to say it was right around 8.30, I thought. It may have been closer to there where I was walking around and then I actually went out. And there was a whole line of people snaking around that whole area outside. Yeah, because we were going to go out there and ask about the registration for the cars. Oh, that's what it was, yeah. Yeah, we went out there and we're like, nope. Not now.

[11:25] Yeah, I can wait. We'll do that later. Yeah, so it was, I mean what it was. Yeah. Yeah, we went out there and we're like, not now. Yeah, I can wait. We'll do that later. Yeah, so it was, I mean, it was… It worked out, though. We just ended up parking across the street from the loading docks, and with my placard, we were right there. Yeah. And it was five bucks cheaper than staying underground. Oh, there you go. Yeah. That's better. No, it's good, though. It's definitely a redo. Yeah.

[11:46] Oh, for sure. Next year will be, I don't know, iffy for me because, with the dates. Yeah. So that may interfere with work for me next year, but we'll see. Apparently Easter is like the first weekend now, I guess, of April next year. So I think the swap meet is like the 10th, 11th, or whatever it ends up being. It's weird. Man, that'll probably be, like I said, because, yeah. We'll see. Your job sucks. Well, said that before, I'll say it again. Five more years and a half.

[12:17] Five and a half-ish more years. But, yeah, we'll see what next year brings. How did you guys feel? Like the deals and that kind of stuff. Did you feel like, how do you feel pricing has changed in the last year? Let's put it that way. I saw a lot higher stuff. I mean, there's still definitely bargains to be found that you guys scrounge. But if you're just looking at stuff, things were a lot higher.

[12:44] Did you think think like selling did you feel as though a lot of stuff was moving as fast as last year i only sold two items so yeah it seemed like people were unless yeah i don't know i mean like stuff that i thought was a bargain or it was just sitting like stuff that I thought was a bargain was just sitting. And stuff that I thought I probably, like I'm talking about my stuff, stuff that I thought I'm not going to get anywhere near what I'm asking for this sold the first day.

[13:16] So it was like a weird mix. It was like people didn't want to turn loose of the cash unless it was like a significant or a nice i don't know airplane so yes i agree with what you're saying the stuff i took to sell was a lot of foamies and a lot of kind of e-flight type airplanes that were just i don't want to say nothing special but not run-of-the-mill stuff right Right. Yeah. Less expensive to begin with. The planes you took, Tommy, were a little of the higher end.

[13:51] Well, one of them. I mean, the Double Vision, let's talk about the Double Vision. Okay. So the Chip Hyde Double Vision, I built that brand new. It's an airplane I got from Brian a couple years ago. Nice. I mean, like you said, I mean, I would consider that a fairly high end build. I mean, it had a DLE 55 RA on it, which was new for the build. It had a ring. Yeah. With, with a Bowman or a RMJ ring in it that I got from, Bjorn

[14:19] had high end pro modeler, cause IModeler, servos in it, had ProModeler lithium batteries in it. I mean, it was high-end. And I mean, I felt like I had it priced. I don't want to say high, but I had it priced as if I was selling it, selling it, not at a swap meet. Does that make sense? I didn't have what I thought was a swap meet price on it. I had what I thought the airplane was worth. You had a swap me price on it. I had what I thought the airplane was worth.

[14:45] You had a secondary market price on it. And it, it like, and like, it didn't get any interest. Like hardly anybody looked at it, but there was the one guy that saw it. That's what he wanted. And he paid, I took the receiver out of it and took a little bit of money off, but he paid pretty much what I wanted for it. and that really surprised me. I thought I was going to have to wheel and deal and come down on the price. But then, on the other hand, I took my

[15:11] big quarter-scale Cub, which turns out it's a Nosin. Okay. It's good to know. It's a Bud Nosin, yeah, Cub. Not a bad-looking airplane, but not like a beautiful airplane, like I don't think. It had a few issues. It's got a cosmetic issue here and there. Yeah, and it has a glow engine on it, right? Okay, so there's a strike against it. But a four-stroke. It was a four-stroke twin. A really nice one, right? And I had come down to $450 for this thing.

[15:42] Bind and fly. Now, granted, it had i don't want to say basic servos but standard sport servos it's a cup it doesn't need anything right i had a spectrum i think ar 8000 an older spectrum receiver but to bind and fly with a with a four stroke twin i couldn't get people to bite on it at 450. yeah so it's like i don't know it was just this weird but. What you had going against

[16:05] you though was that 1000 other Cubs that were there. There was a lot of Cubs there. and, and I did notice that they were selling. Like I saw a lot of people walking out with big yellow wings, during, during the show, but I don't know. I thought, I thought the Cub was a bargain and I took it home. I thought the double vision may have been potentially on the high side and I got pretty much what I wanted. It was weird. It was like a really strange mix. See, that's funny.

[16:30] I thought your double vision was on the low end. No, because if you, like, it's an older airplane. It's not built to today's, like, extreme aerobatic, lightweight carbon fiber. But it had a lot of extra pieces, almost a complete airframe it did yeah it did but i mean that airplane is just really kind of not in demand and it's a biplane yeah not a lot of people enjoy biplanes as much as i do why are you looking at

[16:57] me but like i said it was just it just happened to be the right person who really liked it at the right time and if that guy hadn't been at the show, I probably would have taken it home too. So a lot of it I think is luck. Yeah, right place, right time, right person that wants to carry it out, that wants to deal with moving it, that has the ability to take it home with them. Right, exactly. I get it. And then I pretty much gave away the little blue plane.

[17:22] I think I took 50 for that, I think, 40 or 50 bucks for that, which is… I didn't realize that one went. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, good. I paid $50 for it like a couple of Toledos ago, and I'm pretty sure I got $50 for it. Well, that's good. And I flew it a few times, so… Yeah, you cleaned it up, though. I did. I think I put a slightly newer receiver in it, but it had like an AR6- in it like pre like dsm2 yeah

[17:48] talking ar600 or something yeah so yeah it was just like i said the right person had to be in the in the right place and not have already spent his money yeah her money well and i I think the way you had it displayed too made it pop. That was nice. So we took a couple extra four-foot folding tables and were able to kind of bookend the three tables we had by setting those on top of the table to get a little bit height on stuff.

[18:18] And no matter where I was in that building before you sold that, I could look around and see that airplane the tail way up in the air yeah and i could exactly easily tell where we were which is bizarre because as soon as that airplane sold i think i put the cub up there because the cub was on the floor because there was no room for it on the tables and it sat up there and hardly anybody noticed it and then as other stuff sold i took that four foot table down and

[18:45] then displayed the cub on the table with the wings on and that's when people started looking at it so it's just it's weird well the Cubs more impressive with the wings on it it's got a much better presence yeah it is so I'm surprised that well or didn't sell but I'm kind of glad it didn't too. Yeah, me too. My cow, I decided to put, I'm going to put the OS300 on it, twin, because the cylinders are big enough to look right hanging out. Yeah, those look a little small.

[19:13] Not because it needs the power, because it flies fine on the one-two. But anyway, I'm going to put the 300 on it, and I ordered a fiberglass specialties cow, and it's actually on the way. I got an email today. So they're still producing cows. So that's awesome. Really good quality too. good quality i can't wait to get it so how did you figure out what it was by the way because it's been years you've been trying to figure so what is this airplane 109

[19:34] inch weird wingspan blah blah blah yeah so before when i was trying to figure out what airplane or what manufacturer or plans or whatever i was going toZone and I was looking at all the plans on OuterZone, which that's a plans repository. Thank you. That's the word. So all the plans that I could see there, there was Bud Nose and plans. There was, I think, a version of the Balsa USA plans, which you can get their specs right off their website

[20:06] anyway. You don't need to look at the plans. And then what's another one? SIG does a quarter scale. None of them matched the wingspan of this particular airplane. So I was doing some digging trying to figure out what cow to put on it because I was going to order the Balsa USA cow because I figured, well, that's probably the closest match. So I did a little bit more digging. So I actually went to, I think it was an old RC Universe thread.

[20:33] Somebody had done a build log on the quarter scale Bud Nosen cub. And I happened to notice, I think in one of the thread titles, it said 109 inches. I'm like, hey, wait a minute. My cub is 109 inches. What's going on here? So then I read through the thread, and I think he had a picture of the legend of the plans, and 109 inches, and it's a bud-nosed plan. I'm like, okay, that's weird. Why did the one on Outer Zone say whatever it said? So then I went to Outer Zone and looked,

[21:04] and I couldn't find the plans on Outer Zone. say whatever it said. So then I went to Outer Zone and looked, and I couldn't find the plans on Outer Zone. So I don't know what I saw before, but it is a Bud Nosen, and that's the cowl I ordered. Yeah, because everything you were finding was off by a couple inches. Yeah, a couple inches. Mine's 108. A SIG is like 107 and three quarters or something. Yeah, they're all right there there but nothing right at 109

[21:25] so but it's a bud nosing so that's there you go you can relax now now that i know what it is i tell people you figured that out i figured out what the sig citabria was oh that's right that's right i forgot about that one thank you that was outer zone again yep yep see great repository they're very handy so what'd you think of the pricing it was hit and miss there were some things that were high and there were some things that were a heck of a deal yeah so like

[21:54] buying what did like i feel like you did pretty well on non-airplane stuff yes well yes and no so Yeah, well, yes and no. So I was not really in the buying mood, which is weird. That is weird.

[22:23] For me. There was one airplane that I saw being unloaded that I hemmed and hawed and went back and forth and, tried to not buy, but there was no way I couldn't not buy so I ended up coming home with the the free wing 70 millimeter f-35 retracts all that fun stuff I got I think for 250 bucks less for 300 yeah it yeah it's a good-looking airplane retracts like I said which is a nice thing about that size going up to

[22:43] the 70 with the retracts that was one that's kind of been on my list that I've been going back and forth on wanting to get anyway. And this one was new. It had never been flown. Only thing that kind of sucked was the, the sticker for the price and stuff. Oh yeah. I forgot about that. Yeah. Well, it was a good sticky sticker. so much so that when i pulled it off the paint came off with it other than that now like i said it was in in really good shape you could tell it

[23:14] hadn't been flown it had never had receiver mounted or anything like that so i picked that up picked up a couple receivers that man receivers that I feel as though I stole them and we're okay. I mean, I don't know if you want to actually talk about pricing or not. I mean, yeah, why not? Why not? We've already thrown prices out there. So the guy had a table set up and he had, it was an AR. Hold on, what was it? Not an AR. Oh my God. Well, he had a 631.

[23:53] Oh, that's the second one though. So I was trying to go in order. Whatever it is, it's the new 10 channel spectrum AS3X. Would that be the telemetry? 60T maybe? Well, no, I think that's the PowerSafe, isn't it? Oh, I don't know. So it's not the PowerSafe 10-channel, but it's a regular brick 10-channel telemetry receiver. Brand new in the package. The package hadn't been opened or anything. I was looking at it, and I was like, how much do you want for this?

[24:22] And I'm, in my mind, thinking he's going to say 70 bucks. And I'm trying to decide in my mind, am I going to spend 70 bucks on it or not? Which don't ever put a price in your mind if you're not sure what they say, because he came back with 15. And I was like, 15? He's like, yeah, 15 bucks. So I got out my wallet, handed him a 20, handed me $5 back. And then I was going through other boxes. And he had an AR631 Plus. So that's the newer version with the AS3X Plus software on there already.

[24:56] And this one had been flown. Obviously, it was pulled out of an airplane. I'm guessing it was an airplane that crashed, judging by the other stuff they were selling. And so I asked him, well, how much do you want for this one fully expecting like 15 bucks again and he's like i just give me that five back i was like okay here you go please could not hand it to him fast enough i i was

[25:19] running away making sure i wasn't going to get tackled for stealing something but find out it's not his stuff right right no i mean it's so yes i bought yeah those are killer deals when i when i look them up afterward the ar631 plus is now up to 104.99 and the other one that i bought i wish i could remember exactly which one it is but it was 179179.99 new. So I did good. Yeah. I would say just those two deals alone probably made your weekend.

[25:51] It did. And so here's part of the weekend that did not get made. I don't know much about Surface stuff. I will preface that with I have not stayed current with any surface gear with any radios with any of that kind of stuff I did see recently that spectrum released an update to their to their surface radios that allows you to use their nice radios like hobby grade rad, I guess you'd want to call it, with what they

[26:26] call the SLT receivers, which are like the, when you buy a ready-to-run, I almost said ready-to-fly, ready-to-run little, like, we have a couple of rock crawlers that run off that. It came, everything you needed had the transmitter and all that kind of stuff, too. Well, they have an update now to where you can use the hobby grade type surface radios with those. And so I knew that before going there and I had the goal of trying to find one. So there were two radios that they had for sale

[27:01] that I had been kind of eyeing going back and forth on one was an older dx6 i think yeah dx6 and then the other one was a dx5 pro and so i got online and looked to make sure see if that was one that was able to be updated i I ended up finding out the DX6 that they had there was one that could not be upgraded or updated. The DX5 Pro was one that could be updated. So I was like, cool. Saw what the price was and stuff, and I think I ended up getting it for way more

[27:38] than I should have gotten it for. I don't remember exactly what I paid for it. Well, but you got other stuff with it, remember? Oh, yeah. I bought a drill with it, a a dewalt drill i mean who would who would have thought right but the battery yeah and charger and all that kind of stuff it was a drill new lithium one right good one so it was

[27:56] that reason it was a drill and then it was the impact driver and all that kind of stuff yeah but anyway so yes i bought those together and got the the dx5 pro home and was trying to update it and stuff and realized that oh it's already been updated cool so went to try and try and bind it to the one of the I had here, and it wasn't working. Couldn't figure out what was going on with it. So long story short, there are multiple versions of the DX5 Pro,

[28:33] and depending on what stickers are on there, you can tell what version it is. Oh, no. The version that I bought would take the update, but it can't use the SLT program, or the receivers won't bind to that. Oh, that's a bummer. So I wasted my money on that, which it's an expensive lesson, but whatever. You still got a nice radio. No, I mean, it's ready to go in the garbage. I could care less about it.

[29:00] So… It's nicer than my surface radio. Came home and did some research and found out that they had the DX6C. Spectrum has that one for cheaper than what I paid for the DX5 Pro. And it's fully upgradable to work with the SLT receivers and all that kind of stuff. So I bought that, and now i can do that but if i have to to say there was something okay with with buying the dx5 it came with a case granted it's all beat

[29:34] up but it came with a case which the dx6 didn't so now i have a dx6 in a case and it came with a a receiver also so i'll be putting that in one of my old Traxxas things. I don't know if that was my phone or Dave's creating it. Nope. Mine is in AirPlay mode. Well, I can't blame you then now, can I? You cannot. So lesson learned. I have an extra DX5 Pro that's probably going to be going bye-bye. Take it to Toledo next year. That's my race radio is a DX5. Well, so here's the other thing.

[30:10] And now I'm kind of feeling cheap, and I don't want to spend the extra money. It's running off. Well, not that cheap. But anyway. It used to be. I know. Isn't that weird? It is weird. But anyway, so my goal was to eventually have two radios, one for Piper that's decent and one for me that's decent. That way her cars can go on one, mine can go on the other. And like I said, she does have some of the SLT received. I'm boring Dave to death. You hear him yawning. Anyway, and you too, Tommy.

[30:45] That hurts my feelings. My goal is to have two eventual transmitters for Surface stuff. I really, really, really want to get one of those iXSRs only because I have been so spoiled with our iX20s with the programming on them. The touchscreen, the way you program everything on there is so much easier, faster, nicer, better in every way than the old DX programming. Than the old DX programming. Trying to select things, trying to scroll, trying to rename something just annoys me.

[31:26] Like I like to have a nice name on what the model is. No, like the one I have in there now is just called number one because I don't want to spend the time. Because you don't have the patience to just select the letters and name it. Right. Maybe I'll bring it to Joan Allwith us so I have something to do while we're driving. But I don't have the time right now to sit and spend 10 minutes trying to name one thing but we'll see we'll see what the

[31:51] sort of the what the future brings yeah so that was i think everything i bought right if that's what we were asking about and i kind of cut off kilter yeah that might be it trying to think kilter. Yeah, that might be it. I'm trying to think. So what all did you sell? So I took some stuff to sell and it's kind of funny because once again, went to a swap meet where planes went home

[32:17] with somebody else in our group. I think last time when I went to Decatur I got a plane off of Dave and this time he got a plane off of me but anyway so I took the E-Flight F-16 that one is now gone sad it was a good airplane but I don't care for the F-16 look that's the whole reason I got rid of it anyway the C-Wind is gone EC-1500 is gone I had a little piper cherokee or the tower hobbies older one that one is gone i got rid of my 450 size e-flight cub

[32:55] and ended up keeping the floats off it that's the one dave went home with because i wanted the floats thinking erroneously that i would be able to put those floats on the Ultra Stick. Was that Ultra Stick? No, no, no. Not the float one. The regular Ultra Stick. The names are way too close. It's confusing. But the new Balsa Ultra Stick that, was it E-Flight or Hangar 9? E-Flight, I think. I think it's E-Flight. Came out with not that long ago.

[33:22] Because the original one of those, you could put floats on. The new one, you can't. Found that out after I kept the floats. And then I had an old, small, like, Flighteon or Flighton edge that you had built years and years and years ago. Got rid of that and got rid of the Micro Draco. Nice. Only thing I took that I could not get rid of was the 90mm Stinger. That poor airplane. Nobody wants it. I know.

[33:54] Like, you even, like, at one point during the swap, you were like, if somebody offers me $20, I'm letting it go. Okay, so I thought that, and then somebody actually did offer me $20. And I was like, no, I'm not going to go that cheap. Yeah, I'm glad you didn't. Somebody would have said $100, it would have been a no-brainer. Right. I mean, it was bind and fly, and it flies well. It does fly well for two and a half minutes. Right. Two and a half minutes, that's a good time.

[34:24] It's just kind of ugly. It's fugly. Well, Dave, maybe that should be something you take and repaint. Yeah, you could paint it and make it heavier so that it… Painting is not going to help. The design is just… Really? See, I don't think it's all that bad looking. I don't care about the paint one way or another. I'm fine with the paint. It's the overall design of that thing. It's just fugly.

[34:44] Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if I would say fugly, but I'm fine with the paint. It's the overall design of that thing. It's just fugly. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if I would say fugly, but I'm not a fan. Like, I think there are much more attractive 90 millimeter jets out there. But that was priced right at, I don't care if something bad happens to it. Yes. it's a good trainer to get into flying something. Did it get much interest?

[35:01] I mean, some people, it seemed like a few people were at least looking at it. I got multiple, well, this is still here at the end of the day tomorrow. I'm going to come back and get it. I mean, it never happens. Yeah, I got that with the cub, too. There was a lot of people interested. And honestly, had I had the Saturday mentality on Friday, I probably could have got rid of it. I did have somebody offer me a little less than I was asking, but I should have taken it.

[35:30] I was ready to subsidize it. Whatever deal you work, I'll give you 20 bucks. Yeah, just to get rid of it. Just so Dave doesn't have to look at it. Just so I don't have to look at it. Just for that. Every time we go to the field, it is now coming with us. It's too short. I get the trailer done, it is going to live in there just so every time we go fly. I would have put a time we go inside that thing and whoever yeah yeah anyway so that was what i ended

[35:52] up buying well i so i ended up coming home with one more thing too that i did not buy but i won in the auction or not auction the drawing don't forget to talk about that yeah i will okay so i ended up they had a oh that's right r. Okay. So I ended up, they had a raffle. That's what I was looking for. They had a raffle for a bunch of stuff. There was really not much in there that I wanted. So I ended up putting my raffle tickets in for a sailboat that I ended up winning.

[36:22] It's a Groppner GR65, which means nothing to me, other than I know it's fairly old. But, I mean, it's complete. I cannot make the directions out very well, so Dave and I are going to have to spend some time. Yeah, we'll figure it out. It's not a bad-looking boat, sailboat. I don't know either. I mean, it looks good sitting on a stand over there in the corner which is where it's going to live most of its life obviously because i don't have a bunch of areas to

[36:50] do it but right so yes that was what i came home with i also did get one more thing and i went before we move on to you guys give a quick shout out and say thanks to phil tallman he was kind enough to donate an fpv camera and monitor for my retrieval boat that will be going to Joe Knoll. It's funny, we talked about that, God, I don't remember, two, three, four episodes ago, whatever it was, when we were getting that done. And I said something about needing to get something.

[37:18] I had multiple people reach out to me and say, hey, I've got some gear. If you want it, just, I'll be at Knoll or I'll be at Toledo or whatever. Let me know. I'll meet up with you. He was the first one, so thanks, Phil. I appreciate it. We'll let him drive the boat at Joe Knoll since he gave that to us. It's nice because it's not the goggles that are going to make me nauseous. This is just a little screen, and it's a boat,

[37:43] so it's slow enough to where I think I'll be able to not puke when I'm doing it. Not get seasick. Add the seasickness to it. Right. Yeah. We'll see. It'll be fun, though. It'll be fun to try. Yeah. So thanks, Phil. Appreciate it. Yeah, we will definitely. Well, hopefully not, but it will get put to use. It will get played with for sure. Yeah. Hopefully not have to retrieve any of my airplanes this year but

[38:05] we'll see i bet you never know not we will not yeah we'll see you guys next what else would you take i only took three things and sold two okay i ended up taking my wright brothers flyer from radical rc and i took my Carbon Z T28. Not really wanting to get rid of either one of them, but I need space. I put kind of a high price on the T28 and it ended up selling. Yeah, see? The right person at the right place. Well, that was one that you had repainted.

[38:39] So, I mean, it was a good looking airplane. It wasn't your normal yellow one. Yeah, I helped the guy carry it out. Yeah. And like on our way out, It was a good looking airplane. It wasn't your normal yellow one. Yeah. I helped the guy carry it out. Yeah.

[38:54] And like on our way out, there must have been at least three people that said, oh, man, that's a good looking T-28 as we were hauling it out of the building. Because it was custom painted. It was weathered. It had a Vietnam-ish paint. Yeah, Southeast Asia paint on it. Yeah. So I thought it was cool and so did lots of other people. Yeah. the only reason that one actually went, other than I needed the space,

[39:09] is I was tired of dealing with that stupid retract that would not work all the time. The left one would work fine on the ground 100% of the time. In flight, 60%, 70% of the time, it would not go completely into the bay. Silly. What is it with you and retracts? I don't know. The retract in that T34 I got from you is… Well, that's just dried out O-rings because they're 30 years old. I'm not complaining. I'm just saying. I kind of like it. Just saying. Because it flies off.

[39:37] A couple of weeks before, I had actually gone online and priced out getting the retracts from the newer Carbon Z T28 to replace them. Because apparently that those are fixed from everything I see but that's good but probably not very cost effective no it's going to cost me about 75 bucks and it's so cheap so and I'm cheap and I needed the space and it's like

[39:58] well okay space is the biggest thing at this point that's a big airplane that's a big airplane yeah for a foamy it's a big one so so it's gone and then the the wright brothers flyer never did get around to flying it i attempted to fly it once we had some problems with the launching dolly it was super hot day i took it home put in the garage and it just that's where it stayed that was bigger than i remembered

[40:21] it that was a big that's a good size airplane i was afraid to touch it yeah like i helped he was in the trailer when daniel stopped by and i loaded my stuff i was afraid to get anywhere near it that thing just felt so fragile can you imagine full size one looking so fragile and going that's a good idea i'm going to get on that yeah yeah let's just crime on more yeah it'd be fine what could possibly go wrong? Right? That's impressive. Those guys. Yeah. Huge cojones.

[40:47] Yes. It was sold, went to another exhibitor, and was sold again. And then sold again, yeah. You can say Brian bought it. Yeah. That's funny. And then sold it. So you bought that from Brian, right? It came from Brian to start with, yeah. So you bought that from him, and then he he saw it decided he wanted it back and then they decided him in the car oh that makes sense that makes total sense yeah because his kid was

[41:12] complaining about how much stuff he was like we only have one van i feel better now though it's actually was sold to someone who's going to hang it in their office it's not actually going to be and that's really where it needs to be because it's beautiful it was a nice looking airplane yeah and if you were to fly it it would eventually get knocked around and broken yeah but once would have been nice though just well it was kind of

[41:35] airborne for about a second and a half but oh there you go then it has flown yeah i i mean that's a flight yeah i got hung up on that i hung up on the dolly and wouldn't go much further. So I ended up buying Ron's 20-size Cub. 15, I think, isn't it? I actually looked it up. It's a Great Plains Cub. No, it's E-Flight, I thought. The end number? Anyway. No, actually, I can tell you it is an E-Flight Cub because I got the box with it when I got it last year. That was the one I bought to take

[42:07] to Joe Knoll. Because the N number matches the GP Cub. Really? So somebody must have done a swappy changey on the N numbers. Yeah, it could have been. Anyway, I got that. I bought some robot tires off of Tom. We had to go all the way to Ohio for the days to buy some tires just swap some things hey they're robart i gotta collect those things you never know when you're gonna need them you got a heck of a deal what can i say and then i got daniel's fly zone stinson reliant

[42:40] so it went with us in the same vehicle and came right back yeah same vehicle different owners at this point yeah it's there's a project in mind for that anyway so good because it needs it needs something it's it's gross yeah that's a good word for it that is a good word for i was thinking dingy but gross sums it up much better it does yeah because it's yeah it's beyond dingy it's yuck it's it's you even so

[43:14] it's burgundy and white it has lived in his garage for several years it's got a lot of light time he's flown a lot burgundy yellow yellow yeah yeah well the burgundy is faded now so badly that's brown and yellow yeah it's basically right around right up tom's alley for colors to be honest and the white foam has discolored plus it's got years of garage dirt ground into the foam texture and then all the plastic parts that were brilliant white at one point in their life

[43:46] are now a dingy tan it's gross ew yeah yeah but it's not going to be that way for long good of course not it will look like a brand new airplane I'm sure yeah so that's really the only airplanes I ended up with in the whole weekend but you took you took a oh like jr ergo right i took my jr ergo helicopter 30 size and what lots of people looked at it and i think it was just mostly people reminiscing about when they flew that ergo you

[44:18] know 40 years ago yeah i'm exaggerating but not by long it's about 25 years ago yeah but like lots of people fondled it and looked at it and and then they fondled and then they walked away i had to keep putting the canopy back on it every time i came back the canopy was askew it's like well somebody's been here it was complete minus receiver old school stuff in it standard servos mechanical gyro

[44:41] old school the way it was the motor was locked up in it but i'm sure it was just carboned up it would you heat it up it would yeah be fine had 80 bucks on it yeah no takers no i thought for sure for 80 bucks it would yeah i would take 60. yeah i don't think anybody even offered me any offers on it i got a last minute saturday just before we were going to leave somebody offered me 50 bucks and it's's like, I almost took it. And it's like, no, it's already a giveaway price at 80 bucks.

[45:10] Yeah. And that had, did that have an OS motor in it? Yeah, an OS 32 in it. Yeah. The motor's worth that. I can't remember the name of the muffler on it. It was a higher end muffler. Probably a Herobo. Yeah. It was nice stuff. You put a receiver in it and it would fly it actually had great flying choppers yeah i mean parts part reason i don't fly it is parts you can't get parts for it anymore but i could take it parted out on the internet and i was gonna say yeah triple my

[45:35] money on it you take it apart and sell the pieces on ebay you could probably make twice what you were asking for it but anyway there, it's still living with me. And it's got a good OS32 in it. Exactly. But once again, glow engine, they're not worth, unfortunately. And locked up. If somebody doesn't know how to unlock it easily, they're not going to take the chance. I prefer the term gummed up. Because it's not really locked. It's not seized. Right. Some Wd-40 a

[46:06] little heat and she'd be up and running yeah yeah suck i've thrown the new plug in it definitely well so yeah i brought that home i'm not letting it go for 50 bucks sorry i don't blame you it flew when i parked it in the garage it'll fly again heck yeah i've still got it programmed into my 8103 all i gotta do is slap a receiver in it and the receiver battery and it's good to go sweet i end up 72 megahertz maybe yeah yeah you're not having fun until you got a helicopter with a

[46:38] 16 foot antenna right am i gonna hit it the good days. It's got the big loop plastic on the outside to run your receiver antenna. Receiver antenna wire. Because they're three foot long. I'm glad I wasn't around in those days. That just seems unfun. That's what we did. But you didn't know any better. Right. That's what you did. Now you don't. Now you do it for nostalgia. No, I don't. Yeah, it's fun.

[47:03] I did convert it to run on AA, so I don't have to buy a receiver. Nice. Or a transmitter pack for it. Transmit I don't. Yeah, it's fun. I did convert it to run on AA so I don't have to buy a receiver or a transmitter pack for it. Transmitter pack, yeah. I ended up buying a willy-nillies kit and for the life of me I can't remember which one it was. Oh, that's right. I remember I went to look before I came tonight and Yeah, because you're going to make a twin out of it. Yeah, I've got the

[47:24] Which one was that now i can't remember yeah i can't anyway anyway so we'll talk about down the road when we get around to it cool next winter project yeah he'll be done before that i'm probably i've got the guts from a gw not gws umx a10 the older one so we're going to hang a couple jet engines off of it nice so actually the guy at willy nellies was really interested in one pictures if the older one. So we're going to hang a couple jet engines off of it. Nice. So actually,

[47:47] the guy at Willie Nellie's was really interested in wearing pictures if… Well, sure. If you do it. Yeah. When you do it. When I do it. Yeah, you're going to do it. It's in my way, actually. I don't have to build it. Just get it out of the way. There you go. It'll take you like an evening. Yeah, it's going to take a little longer to figure out. The way you build. I figured out how to put the EMX stuff in. It's going to take me a little bit

[48:04] because it is set up for regular microservos and stuff. But we'll figure it out. It's no big deal. It doesn't cost me anything. I got $35 in the kit. I ended up buying an ASP-15 just because. And it is brand stinking new. It has never been ran. Nice. I pulled it all apart. It's brand new. and it was cheap cheap

[48:38] dave likes cheap i like cheap i like cheap i don't mind cheap cheap and brand new is even better even better stopped by my favorite folks over at microffasteners and talked to that lovely lady. Loaded up on some hardware. Yeah, of course. I forgot some and I went back to get it and she sold out. It happens. I'll see her next year. Yeah, she'll be there next year. And I bought a couple of receivers from FreeSky. FreeSky was there. It was FreeSky Steve.

[49:01] And bought a couple of receivers on a very good price and I didn't have to put them in the mail though we'll talk about that in a minute and wandering around all by myself at one point i were stumbled across a blade mcx one of the little bitty tidy counter rotating helicopters that they just re-released like two weeks. Yeah. Found one for $25 in the box. Helicopter is in perfect condition. The box is more beat up than anything. I thought, great, really good deal.

[49:34] I really love, when I worked in the shop, I used to fly this thing around the shop all the time and just love flying it. Never bought one because I always flew the shops. Yeah, you always have a shop on the fly. But I thought for 25 bucks and they just re-released it, so are available by the way they're not well they will be today actually i think they're supposed to come out yeah picked it up great no batteries

[49:55] with it but and no big deal they're like six dollar batteries are they the 1s 150s or 1s 150s yeah wasn't't 10 booze away and I found a guy, oh, look, you got one of these helicopters. I've been trying to sell mine all weekend and I can't even get anybody to buy it for 35 bucks. And he opens up this really nice tool bag. Yeah, I was going to say, it looked like a tool bag that was hinged on the top. One of those nice rigid ones. Yeah, nice tool bag. It's got the helicopter in it,

[50:24] two chargers. So the first one I bought had a it's got the helicopter in it two chargers so the first one i bought had a charger with it this one had two chargers with it four batteries enough rotor blades to choke a horse and a few other miscellaneous spare parts plus it was the upgraded one with the full body set and the lights for 35 bucks i was like well well, damn it. I just bought this one. What the heck? All right. So I bought two of them. So $55, I have two Blade CXs and MCXs.

[50:57] I've been having a blast with it. I ended up breaking it the other night. I flew it into the chair. You have a spare. Yeah, that's why you bought it, to have fun with it yeah yeah so yeah those are great i really only needed once i tried to sell the other one for 25 bucks saturday and and nobody bought it i don't think anybody looked at it yeah i don't remember anybody

[51:19] picking the box up so i'm just wondering now what bringing it back, how well those are going to sell if I can't sell one that's identical to it for $25. Yeah. That'll be interesting to see. Yeah. We'll see. Renewed my MA membership. Oh, I did too. And got a deal. Yeah. Apparently when you renew the person, they knock $10 off. How long did you do? A year. You? Tommy? I did two. I did two too ah i did two also

[51:48] i do yeah of course he did anyway so i thought that was a really good deal and yeah she said hey by the way it's ten dollars off it's like cool so it took care of that which i was going to do that when i got back anyway because it mine expired the day or two after we got back so yeah i was gonna just go online and do it but i still had two years left on mine so now i'm good to like 20 29. nice and then i ended up buying a used esc for my truck which i needed because

[52:22] yeah i'm an idiot. I forgot about that. I bought an ESC and a 90mm fan unit too. That's right. I forgot about that. You bought a 90mm fan for your 80mm van. Well, I should say I wasn't sure, but it's okay. I'm glad I have it. But let's go back to the Dave's an idiot part. Actually, do we want to get to that or do you have more you want to talk about? I haven't talked about my airplanes and what I took and what I bought and anything yet. Oh, that's right. That's okay. No, go on.

[52:50] No, no, we can talk about you. No, why did I think? No, I wasn't going to talk about me. I was going to talk about Dave and the idiot thing, but that's okay. We'll go back to it. We can talk about that. We'll call Dave an idiot later. Yeah, we'll go back to it because that's a whole separate thing. I forgot you didn't talk about what you bought. We were going to cover the R word later. Well, I took a few airplanes.

[53:09] I took the blue Toledo, the one that I've been calling the Toledo Special that I bought in Toledo a few Toledos ago. Took that, sold that, sold the double vision. Sold the double vision for $650. Took the receiver out. Took the cub, Took the Cub home. And then, yeah, took a couple of boxes of parts. Some engines that I actually sold. Nitro engines. And then, yeah, sold my glider. The Hobbyhawk. On the Thursday that we got there. Like within an hour of being there.

[53:43] See, I like the way you did that too, because you just left it in the box. Well, see, here's the thing. Anybody that is familiar with the Hobie Hawk knows what it looks like in the packaging, because the packaging is very specific to… I don't know, I shouldn't say that, because I'm not familiar with a lot of gliders. Maybe a lot of gliders are packaged this way. But it's a two-piece foam case that when you bought it from, originally I believe it had a zippered canvas thing.

[54:14] Oh, really? Which I never got that with it. That makes sense, I guess, to keep it together. To keep the two pieces together. But anyway, it's a very obvious box. White styrofoam two two-piece, clamshell-type construction. And yeah, within, I don't know, within a half an hour of having it out on the table, yeah, I had a guy over there saying, hey, I know what that is. You have multiple people say they knew what it was but didn't want it. Right, exactly.

[54:48] So part of my strategy is these gliders, for some reason, and I'm not a glider guy, so I don't know. I think it's nostalgia, honestly, because I don't think they… My experience with it, it doesn't fly particularly awesome. Like my Conchendo, I like the way that one flies. This doesn't fly anything like that. My Vimana, it flies what I would consider awesome. You still have that? Yeah. And this thing flies nothing like that. But anyway. That's not what I was thinking of. Never mind.

[55:12] So I don't think they command high values because the way they fly, which I could be wrong. I think they command high prices because of nostalgia, I think. And it is a very pretty airplane. And rarity, probably. Because you don't see those very often. That's true. That could be. But there's a lot of other gliders I see on the glider page on Facebook that people say, oh, you don't see these very often. And I don't really see them going at the same rate that the Hobbyhawk goes for.

[55:41] At any rate, sold everything but the Cub, which I'm okay with. Yeah, me too. I'm glad you kept that one. Yeah, and then I bought a couple of things. I bought Nostalgia Hit Me. Henry Rauhaus was there with, he's a swapper, swapper, swapper. Like, he's a swapper's swapper, this guy. If you've never met Henry, go to Toledo just to meet Henry because he is a character of that guy. But anyway, he brought a lot of stuff. And this year he brought a lot of new-in-the-box Balsa kits.

[56:13] A lot. Yeah, like, I mean, hundreds. Yeah, I would say hundreds. Tables, just kits. And so I'm a kit guy. Dave's a kit guy. We're builders. We see stuff like that, and it's just like salivating,? And in his stash of kits are these two old Northeast Aerodynamics biplane kits, a Bel Air 40 and a Bel Air 60. Northeast Aerodynamics, I'll make a long story short. My very first airplane was a Northeast Aerodynamics train error 20. and while i was

[56:45] learning to fly that airplane my second airplane was going to be a northeast aerodynamics bel air 40 the 40 size biplane which never happened so from the time i was a kid i've wanted one of these kits and kits generally speaking bring good money yeah that's right i didn't really look at his stuff too much because i figured i couldn't afford anything on that table henry's henry's prices and i it could be maybe he made me a deal because he likes me i don't know he felt

[57:16] sorry for you he felt sorry for me maybe i had the puppy dog eyes when i was looking at these kits he made like i bought both of these kits and they are new in the box. Like, and I looked at them. They are complete. Everything is in the box, the plans, instructions. These kits are really kind of high-end for their time. They had machine-cut and sanded parts. Like, so nothing die-cut. And what time would that have been, by the way? 80s. 80s. I'll just leave it at that.

[57:41] So, like, the ribs are all pre-cut and sanded to shape. The spars are tapered, sanded to account for the taper of where they're located. Like everything in the kit is pre-shaped. It's, they're amazing kits. It's not a builder's kit. No, they go together. Like the leading edges are notched for the ribs. So. So that they key into the, so you can't, you almost can't build them wrong. Anyway, I got, I bought both of these kits for $300. Both of them, like kit prices,

[58:15] that would be priced for one kit. Yeah. These days, 40-ish size kit. And these are biplanes, so there's a lot of balsa in these kits. Anyway, bought those, I bought a UMX Timber X. Maybe. I don't remember what it is. Yeah. No, I've got the Turbo. Okay, so this is a UMX Timber X. That's the short wing, big aileron. Yes, exactly. Bought that, new in the box. A hundred bucks, I think? No. What did I get? It wasn't that much. I think you said it was 80.

[58:45] Yeah, I was thinking. That's i think you said it was 80. yeah that's what it was it was 80 like for a brand new umx timber x i thought that was because those are like 100 150 ish yeah so i felt pretty good about that and then what else i think that's it what did you get for that do what what did you get for the timber x what do you mean what did i get for it what did you get to put under it? Oh, I bought floats. There you go. From Henry as well.

[59:08] Hey, Henry, how much for these floats? I don't know. Five bucks. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, it was nice. So I've got, yeah, a micro, a UMX Timber X on floats to fly it to the place we're going to in a few weeks. What is that? I wasn't going to say it because you've already said it like 15 times. Maybe. But anyway, yeah, that's worthwhile. Oh, and I did buy a, Dave bought a nitro engine. I bought a nitro engine. I bought a HP 40 Gold Cup to match my HP 61 Gold Cup

[59:42] that you can actually see running on our youtube channel that's the black engine with the gold head i did like a tuning video of a two-stroke okay i bought the 40 size version of that at the show wow for 10 bucks wow yeah with good compression well at that point i write way overpaid for my 15. i get 25 for that yeah but that was brand new it It was brand new. This one's a used one, so that's okay. Mine does have a casting flaw in it, though.

[1:00:09] The carburetor neck, there's a chunk missing out of the intake. Son of a… Wow. It's just short cast. Nothing that JB Weld and some grinding won't fix, but… So, yeah, that's pretty… Oh, and I bought the one non-airplane thing, one other non-airplane thing I bought. Right before you bought your receivers, Ron, same guy, same area, I bought the remnants of a crashed AeroScout. Mm-hmm. So that would be the receiver. That's an AR631.

[1:00:48] And the speed controller, controller motor servos even and i think there's a radio tray in there that i esc didn't i say that yeah yeah oh i was not listening then i'm sorry but anyway i bought all of that for 40 bucks so now i have an esc 40 bucks. So now I have an ESC and receiver and motor in my Terry Dunn special, the pterodunctal. There it is. There we go. So yeah, which I thought for 40 bucks was worth that. It

[1:01:17] wasn't quite the steel that you got on your receivers, but it was still pretty good. It was pretty good with everything you got. Plus now you have a smaller motor to put on that airplane that's not going to weigh seven pounds. It's already on there. For a piece of foam. Eight ounces. That's good. Two ounces lighter than yours. Compared to three pounds that you were going for. I would say it was way up there. You're going to fold a wing just by holding on to it. Yeah, but think of

[1:01:41] the vertical it would have had. It wouldn't have had any. No way to control it. I could shorten the wing and fly it like an EDF. Well, that's not a bad idea. Get rid of half of the core. Well, then you wouldn't have any of the dihedral to even you out. You could have cut, I guess, ailerons for the small part. Yeah. Then just three times the speed. Yeah. Anyway. Anyway. So anyway, those are my acquisitions and going out. Disbursements. Disbursements. There you go. Good. All right, next.

[1:02:14] Well, I think. The R word. Is that what you're going to talk about next? I don't know what the R. Huh? Racing. Oh, God. That's what you said. Yes. Okay. racing oh god that's what you said yes okay I well so we were talking about Dave being an idiot and I didn't know what we were going for on that doesn't take much so yeah we actually raced cars it was pretty fun I enjoyed it I'm glad you had fun first time on carpet I'm glad you had fun. First time on carpet.

[1:02:49] So I don't know what the whole story is behind the trucks that we raced. We had, what were they, TTO1s? They were Tamiya TTO1 semi-trucks. Euro trucks. Euro trucks. So there were four of us that ended up racing those for the most part. I't know if we ever did we get four people out at once or not because they think yes the second race i think they're in the second heat okay so we had four of those out there they had a special class

[1:03:17] just for not special but they had a class just for us because we were so cool But I tell you what, so I don't want to talk too much because I don't know much about these. But the first one or the car I got from you, Tommy, because you gave me a car. Actually, Gabe gave. Thank you very much. I got to keep it. You're welcome. It was given to me a long time ago. Well, you don't have to downplay it. Just be like, you're welcome.

[1:03:44] You're very special to me. Thank you. You're special to me and you're a very good friend and I wanted you to have a long time ago. Well, you don't have to downplay it. Just be like, you're welcome. You're very special to me. Thank you. You're special to me and you're a very good friend and I wanted you to have a good time. Nice. So, it had a cab over semi thing on it that had been, let's just say, had been what? Body. Body.

[1:03:59] That had been used a lot, I guess, and was cracked in strategic places. So, the Tamiya Euro trucks, they come two ways. They come with a cab-over style body, and then they come with a more conventional cab style body. And the cab-over body has a tendency to crack and things like that on the front because there's so much weight out over the nose. Right, which makes it move and oscillate as you're trying to go around a curve,

[1:04:31] and then you just get chattering and very much not a fun racing experience. So on the carpet oval, and I discovered after the fact that this carpet wasn't brand new. I thought it was brand new carpet, but it was actually carpet that had been used prior. Okay. So it already had some traction compound and rubber into the carpet. So there was a lot of traction available. Yeah. More so than I was expecting. Yeah, I expect you're sliding all over the place.

[1:05:00] I discovered that after the first round of practice. I was like, man, my tires came back like gummy. Yeah, right. I got a lot of crud off mine. Brand new carpet doesn't normally do that. So that was my first clue that there was already a lot of available grip. Of traction. In the carpet. So on a carpet oval, the cab over body, not ideal. But when you're going right and left and maybe you would only have that issue like in the long sweeping turns, but those bodies

[1:05:30] actually, when we used to race them at Falcon Hobby, the cab over body was actually kind of the preferred body because it put a little more weight over the front tires which would help the trucks in this case turn a little bit because they push like my truck with that, the conventional cab pushes a lot like I if I had had traction compound, I would have put some on the front and left the rear alone because I had plenty

[1:05:56] of rear grip because there was not as much weight over the front tires, but on a carpet oval, it's a different story. So yeah, you had the negative experience of the cab over body. Yeah. And so there was another guy that was there. And we got talking about it. Apparently, he's raced these before. There's lots of guys there. Well, yes, there was a lot of guys there. But one guy that was, that's where I want to look, let's say, he was helpful with my plight.

[1:06:24] So he had the conventional body that he actually brought with him to sell so i ended up buying a new body for for 10 bucks not new but in decent shape good shape yeah for 10 bucks however we didn't realize that the mounts the body mounts the body clips body whatever posts are different and he didn't have have, well, he had one of them, which wasn't enough to help me.

[1:06:47] So, of course, good old Dave comes in with his, I mean, he had like probably what, like an 80-pound satchel thing that you rolled in with you that had all your stuff in with it. That's my race case, yeah. And, of course, Dave had not one, not two, but I think six, four, four body posts. So, plenty in case something happened and for me also to have them so i was able to switch it over and use this other body and made all the difference

[1:07:12] in the world it was actually enjoyable yeah and not frustrating yeah so i had a lot of fun doing that i would like to do it next year if we do it again. Yeah, I like the addition of the racing. I'll do things a little bit different next year, like I forget, we were pressed for time at the beginning for some reason. I forget why. We were worried about missing the first heat or something like that. Oh, we had to check out of the hotel. Well, I thought there was some… Well, yeah, I guess

[1:07:43] that was it. Right, because the racing was the day was some, well, yeah, I guess that, I guess that was it. Right. Cause the racing was the day we got. Yeah. So, so that part of it, yeah. we'll check out maybe a little earlier next year and cause we'll learn. Yeah. Yeah. But I liked, I liked having that. I'm not sure how I feel about leaving the tables. It took a lot away from the actual experience. I'm yeah. So I don't

[1:08:05] know we'll see well dave didn't have a good time well so i had i had a seven a dave day dave was being a dave dave do tell all right so my truck is actually pretty fast it turned in some decent times actually i had two trucks there quentin was driving the other truck, like BJ and the bear truck. My conventional was actually pretty quick. I go to line up for the, or we do the tech inspection for the first round. Past tech, no problem.

[1:08:39] I got to plug my truck in, and I somehow or another plug it in backwards. Backwards. With the Dean's plugs plugs they don't technically plug in backwards but you can touch i still i don't know how you did that because i looked at my my plugs when i because i was using dean's plugs as well and the pins are recessed into my plugs to the point where, like, no matter how I press them together, they don't touch.

[1:09:06] Regardless of whatever happened, I got a big orange spark and smoke rolled out of the speed control instantaneously. Once you let the smoke out, there's no putting it back in. What kind of battery do you have? Because I thought somebody said your batteries had the post that you plug in. Mine had the plug-in post, yes. So were they backwards then? No, they were not backwards.

[1:09:22] I didn't have post problems in the second race but so anyway i let the magic smoke out of the speed control and that truck was done for that round for that round yeah so then you're in the market for speed control so someone we're racing with a nice lady she said i've got this traction speed control it's got the traxxas plugs out you can put your plug on it if you want to buy it that's fine if not just I'll take it back and she wanted 25 bucks where I was

[1:09:52] like fine here's 25 bucks yeah it was a Traxxas speed control stockish very similar to what was in the truck to start with yeah come to find out for some reason another the Traxxas speed control is not nearly as efficient as the Tamiya one because the truck was a full second slower. Crazy. Per lap. Yeah.

[1:10:12] Well, and so, not to interrupt, but the speed controllers that come with the Tamiya trucks, the TT01s anyway, and they may include these speed controllers in some of their other cars. I don't know. But the speed controller that comes with them, they're dual use. You can run a brushed motor or a brushless motor. Yeah, it does either way. So I wonder if maybe that programming has something to do with why they're so much faster than the Traxxas. I don't see. There is a massive difference.

[1:10:39] I mean, the second lap is a lot because we were turning, what, five seconds roughly? A decent lap is low lot because we were turning what five seconds roughly a decent lap is in low fives yeah so and i was turning i turned a four six i think with the truck previously yeah that's like a 25 20 difference at times it's crazy and the truck just felt slow yeah and i went through make sure i had it set correctly and it is what it is it's a tracks of speaker all you can only set it one way

[1:11:11] and i've ran tracks of speed controls before but this one was not happy ironically though i took it and sold my i forgot i had my traxxas 4 tech in my race case and threw it on the table and sold it like 20 minutes before then otherwise i could have stolen speed control out of that yeah kept your own so we got to the second round with it and quentin hit me with my own truck and it did knock the connector out of

[1:11:33] the battery okay so then you were done for round two round two was done so not only my second slow i'm not able to even finish a race yet my second slow i'm not able to even finish a race yet you guys however are having a blast absolutely yeah yeah i had zero issues with my truck all weekend and i have never ever broken one of these to my trucks other than knocking the center out of a rear hub which happens with the tractor

[1:11:58] trailer with these yeah with these you can that is a a known it's a known issue. It's a known issue, and I have knocked a hub out. Third round, trucks just petering along as fast as I can. I'm trying to keep up, but even Ron is blasting past me. I like how he said that. Even Ron is blasting past me. I mean, I don't have the racing heritage, I guess, that you guys have. So if you end up being passed by me then

[1:12:25] yeah i guess you'd be a little salty too and about two-thirds of the way through i start hearing a strange noise coming from the truck and ends up it ended up burning up a spare gear in it oh geez i did finish the race i didn't know that either i didn't know that it was getting slower as the race went on honestly i thought it was the center of one of the wheels that's what i was hearing

[1:12:41] yep i have never ever broken one of these tto1 trucks and and burned up speak there's big control on a square gear huh damn yeah i think this truck just had a lot of run time on it and it was that could be yeah yeah well fastest lap of the race in the main was ron ron you actually turned the fastest lap one of the fastest laps in the race i don't remember that but cool yay me yeah i mean i

[1:13:13] i was happy and surprised if i'm honest i got both of you it was your first time on carpet oval ever okay i mean we did have a track at my house that was true that's grand it wasn't carpet but it was you're right you did so i guess you did have some i guess i don't have technical racing experience but i have technical racing experience but i have bashing experience on a track that's true was a bunch of fun so and that that's what

[1:13:30] it was all about we all well and the trucks are a blast mostly all of us had fun oh even even though i was breaking trucks except for the first round i was really pissed at myself but i had fun with the trucks i mean the trucks you can't do nothing but smile when you run these things. Especially when they're close together. Yeah. And then they kind of bump and bash, and they're fun to drive. I was always afraid to get too close to you, Tommy, though,

[1:13:57] because I didn't want to spin you out and then have you get all mad and stuff. Oh, that's another thing about the trucks is you can do a bump turn with them real easy. You're just taking pit maneuver somebody real easy with those trucks because the rear ends will slide right out for anything. Yeah, it was a good time. Why were you afraid to… Because you take stuff seriously. Like, you get into it. Did I? Well, I don't know what would happen if I spun you out

[1:14:19] and I didn't want to find out, but you were in it. I didn't feel like I was all that serious. I was up there laughing with everyone else. Well, yeah, because everything were in it. I didn't feel like I was all that serious. I was up there laughing with everyone else. Well, yeah, because everything was going well. Like, I just wasn't sure, like, how serious. Because I know you used to get bit by this really badly. I did. And so I didn't know. Yeah. Honestly, I didn't know how.

[1:14:37] To those who don't know, like, before. Well, not really even before. Because I've been in airplanes, like, forever. But there was a period of about, I don't know, 20-ish years or so that I raced. It's a big period, by the way. I was thinking you were going to say months. Well, from about, I don't know, from about 92 until, when did I quit racing? 2008-ish? Yeah. So not quite 20 years, I guess. But I raced a lot. I mean, a lot. And spent a lot of time and money. You went to California.

[1:15:08] Yeah. I mean, I, I'm not going to brag, but I'm a… You're going to brag. I'm a regional champ. But like I, yeah, there was a time where I took it seriously. But I had to quit because it was expensive. And it was taking a lot of time away from the family. And it was very selfish of me to do that. And so I quit. And like cold turkey, like I just sold most of the stuff and quit. I kept some of the stuff that meant something to me, like my championship winning car,

[1:15:38] cars, I should say. At any rate, I've always been afraid to kind of drive an RC car in competition again because I didn't want to get pulled back into that. And I can safely say, after that weekend, it didn't affect me at all. Like, I have no more desire to race now than I did before we went to Toledo, which is a good thing yeah because now that makes it fun yeah because there for a while racing was was really not fun it was

[1:16:11] stressful and that yeah that's not really why and i've heard those stories and i like i said i've known how you like i remember when we first started hanging out after i started flying and you would come out here and we had the track out there, you wouldn't, you wouldn't take a spin on it at all. Like I would try and hand you a controller. You just absolutely not like, no, I don't want to get drawn back in. So, yeah. I don't want to do it

[1:16:33] either. Especially oval. I'm a road racer. Me too. but so the reason I own the Tamiya truck was, a few years ago we had a local hobby shop and they had a track indoor. And these trucks are actually pretty reasonable. They come with the speed controller, the motor. You put some bearings in them and that's really all you did to them. And there's a rock stock class you couldn't do anything to them anyway. It's still available.

[1:17:01] And there's still, yeah, you can still buy these things. And so we were going, well, they were running them as a class of their own here at the local track and then i borrowed ed's because he had a couple of them one day and i don't know i forget how that all came about i think you were talking about it doesn't matter so i raised ed's a couple of times at falcon hobby and it was like, this is kind of fun and cheap. And it's one night a week or one night every other week.

[1:17:29] I can do this,. So I bought a truck of my own and then the hobby shop closed. So I built the truck and painted it and everything. And then the hobby shop closed. And that truck was brand new, like brand new. Yeah, that truck had never been on the car. And I took it to Toledo this year. Oh, I didn't realize that. Brand new.

[1:17:44] Oh, wow. Like it had never been had a battery in it. it to toledo this year like i didn't realize that brand new like it had never been never been had a bad race never wow yeah so okay anyway safe to say i am not bit by the racing bug so i will be happy to not touch one again until next year if i get to go yeah and like i said it's something i would do again next year i think it was fun enough to

[1:18:02] do that and we need to talk i'm going to do in a road course of some kind yeah maybe even if it's something i would do again next year i think it was fun enough to do that and we need to talk i'm going to do a road course of some kind yeah maybe even if it's just one leg sticking out there yeah yeah it helps yeah we can talk oh but cool yeah it was it was good it was a lot of

[1:18:16] fun seeing the other oval cars run around there didn't really no spur me my tracksas late models were fun to watch because the track was small and they were big. You had to be careful. They would flip over because there was so much traction. And they wheelie if you got on them too hard. I saw multiple wheelies going down the back straight which was kind of fun to watch. I thought the little low C 12 scale NASCARs would maybe entice me but nah, not at all.

[1:18:46] See, I would like to get one of those sometime. I think they're pretty cool. Yeah. But not having a place to run them changes a bunch of stuff. It does, yeah. And they do, I will say they look good. they look like actual race cars, especially when they're close together and racing and, staying clean and all that kind of stuff.

[1:19:02] But it didn't, I had more fun with these trucks, think than i would have had with trucks are just always a smile no matter what yeah yeah and they're slower which yeah because they weren't that much slower than that yeah it was a short track though so you're only talking what quarter second half second compared to the faster times on some of the other stuff. Yeah. The other cars are there, but yeah, no, it was a good time. They still managed to leave.

[1:19:32] I'll still manage to do the racing and they still had a small area set aside for indoor flying. Cause there were guys there flying inside only for like sponsored type, but at least you could go and watch, right. Oh, absolutely. wasn't open flying. So the, the fact that we didn't have a a like a back room where we could leave the trailers that kind of was a bummer but i'm okay with i mean

[1:19:53] i'm okay with it because i didn't have a trailer to park right it was a good show i think you did a good job much bigger this year than last year yeah which was much bigger i kind of like having all the walls down you could see everything from one vantage point true but it it took me a while to mentally figure like where i was and used to be the vendors right we're separated from the professionals right

[1:20:18] but no i mean they did a good job of yeah having stuff segregated out and put where they need to be. I still think that there were tables that people didn't show. I know, I saw there were a few of them, not a ton. Not a ton. Maybe five or six or something like that, that neither day they had somebody at, but they were obviously sold and paid for, they wouldn't have been on there. Otherwise they wouldn't have been there. I mean, things happen, I guess, where you can't make it.

[1:20:52] But no, overall, great, great turnout. Yep. It was busy. It was busy. Obviously, the morning of Friday and Saturday, those are the busiest, I think. Yeah. The people first coming in, and that's when the mad rush or whatever. But I felt like, now granted, I and that's when the, for, the mad rush or whatever. But I felt like now granted, I didn't go with you guys last year, so I don't know what the tempo was like last year, but the year prior to that,

[1:21:12] I felt like by the time nine 30, 10 o'clock, maybe 11 rolled around, the mad rush had tapered off and then it was just kind of a steady, one steady trickle through. Yeah. rush it tapered off and then it was just kind of a steady one steady trickle through yeah this time i felt like the mad rush wasn't over until like 12 31 o'clock because i remember thinking when we were going to race one of our heats on saturday saturday yeah

[1:21:40] that i was worried about leaving the table missing a sale because there were still people fluctuating on the tables and stuff so I feel like Based on that I feel like there were more people there this year buying. Yeah, I agree So if I had my way, I mean paying at the door to go into the show to buy Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So if I had my way, which I don't but I think Since we go to set up Thursday, I think Thursday and Thursday night should be practice.

[1:22:09] And I would like to see Friday starting later in the afternoon and racing like the mains and stuff after they close. Yeah. I would like to see that go until, even seven or eight o'clock at night. We have nothing else to do. Well, the people like'clock at night, we have nothing else to do. Well, the people like us who are there swapping have nothing else to do. But people who are showing up there just to race, they obviously have probably other things to do.

[1:22:33] We're staying at the place that we're swapping at. What I'm saying, though, is for the racing, though, a lot of these people are coming from farther away. So they're staying in a hotel or something like that. So my point is Friday night would be nice to have the mains and all that stuff. A lot of these people are coming from farther away, so they're staying in a hotel or something like that. So my point is Friday night would be nice to have the mains and all that stuff,

[1:22:52] and then just Saturday could just have the track be open, have people play on it, do whatever. But then that gives us the less time taken away from the swap. Yeah, I agree. And more time to do stuff outside of the swap hours. Yeah, I wasn't crazy about losing time swap. Yeah, other than that. For the cars. It's like,'s like okay this is great but i'm here for airplanes right yeah well not only that but i'm here to try and get rid of some stuff yeah and that's what he's saying like

[1:23:14] if we did the racing because the swap is over at five right yeah and it starts to die off let's say one two o'clock i was gonna say. By the time three o'clock rolls around, the only people really that are swapping are the swappers. Right. So I would say, yeah, you could start maybe, have practice Friday or Thursday night. And then maybe start the rounds of heats at three o'clock Friday afternoon and run those all the way until the mains are over Friday night,

[1:23:41] whatever time that ends up being. And then you're back to swapping Saturday. And then just open. I think that would would yeah for me that would work better too yep so let henry know we might we'll see him at where at that place out east that we can't stop talking about all right you guys about joe noel there you go okay i knew we'd let it slide All right. Talking about Joe Knoll. There you go. Okay. I knew we'd let it slide. Anything else? Go on. I like to complain.

[1:24:08] that. No. Yeah. No, we don't know that at all. Okay. As a swap person, please, first off, put a price on your stuff. Oh, yeah. And be there or at least post a phone number we can reach you. Yeah. There were several aircraft I was interested in. First off, I had no idea how much they wanted for them, and never could find anybody. Yeah. So please, as a shopper, put your prices on stuff and at least a way to contact you. Yeah. At a minimum, put a card with your number on there

[1:24:39] so you can call and get the price. Yeah. I know the guy, or I know the area you're talking about. Yeah. You didn't want that airplane anyway. I didn't want that, especially with the price. i know the guy or i know that that's one area you're talking about with the yeah you didn't want that airplane anyway i didn't want that especially with the price i finally found out now because i didn't see that guy thursday his stuff was there yeah a lot of

[1:24:53] stuff he had a lot of nice stuff i didn't see him thursday and i didn't see him at all friday i didn't see him until saturday yeah and even then it was going out the door this was some so but no i agree yeah if you're not going to put a price on your stuff okay cool we can work with that but at And even then it was going out the door. This was some. But no, I agree. Yeah. If you're not going to put a price on your stuff, okay, cool. We can work with that.

[1:25:12] But at least put some way of contacting you. Are you guys sure you weren't looking at the static displays? No, these were definitely. Oh, that explains a lot. Wait a minute. No, we were not. Okay. Because I would have really liked to have have that but not the price he was asking 400 i think it was 425 425 for that okay ouch that's all i got dave you want to complain about anything else how long these run sometimes yeah this was supposed to be 40 minutes right i didn't

[1:25:39] think it was going to be very long but what can i say you guys talk a lot so there we go we had a great time toledo is always a blast if you've never been try somehow to get there yeah and it will be again next year like i said they already announced the dates so yeah mark your calendars yep all right all right well i'm finished me too until next time thank you for oh wait look dave no you go right ahead
