[00:00:00] I'm not bleeding yet, so we're good. You're just ripping your skin off with hot glue. Okay. Oh, I don't want to look. I do want to look. Let me see it.
[00:00:08] He wants to see it.
[00:00:11] I literally don't see anything. I think it's probably because the light is bad. The terrible lighting? Pull it off. Oh, I see it now. There it is. Oh, God. I really feel bad. Like, I appreciate you putting my…
[00:00:24] Oh, I haven't had a good injury for a while, so I was due. Okay.
[00:00:27] Putting your plan together.
[00:00:28] Putting my plan together.
[00:00:29] By the way. Yeah.
[00:00:31] All right, we ready?
[00:00:32] Yep.
[00:00:42] Hello, everyone, and welcome to the RC Plane Lab podcast. I'm Ron. I'm Tom. So we've got Reggie and Dave back.
[00:00:48] Yep. Dave's out, finishing up your airplane that he started last time.
[00:00:53] And he hurt himself pretty badly.
[00:00:55] Just a few minutes ago, actually, and you cannot quit laughing at him.
[00:00:59] Now, in my defense, I'm not laughing. You're laughing. I actually, out of concern, I said, are you okay? And I look over at you, and what are you doing? You were laughing.
[00:01:10] I was laughing because what he was trying to glue together had fallen off.
[00:01:14] That was before that. Nice try. No, but Dave… Yeah. And you guys can talk. I mean, you don't just have to sit there. Yeah, you guys.
[00:01:22] Hi. I was offered multiple Band-Aids, and I appreciate that.
[00:01:27] And you said no each time. She is. she's wonderful.
[00:01:33] So, yeah, we have a bonus guest. Yeah, Dave is joining us, along with Reggie. Hi, guys. Hi, guys. Reggie sounds really, really, really excited to be here.
[00:01:44] It's like we had to drag him in or something. I mean, what's the matter?
[00:01:48] You're smiling, but you're not talking. He's fighting a cold or something. Yes, I'm trying not to cough in the mic here. A little under the weather.
[00:01:55] Well, getting more cough drops out. Getting the cough drops ready.
[00:01:59] Well, then let's get into it. Let's get through this so you can not cough into the mic. If you have to cough, look to your right. I shall. I'll just go straight this direction. That's where Tommy is. You notice the distance here right now. Yeah, you're smart. Thanks, Dave. Appreciate that. Everybody on this side of the table is close together, and Dave's off by himself like he knows what's going on.
[00:02:20] I don't know. So a lot of commonality here on the table, I'm noticing. We have Reggie, and then the three guys that fix Reggie's airplanes are sitting here today.
[00:02:29] At least two.
[00:02:31] At least two. I don't fix them. I just take them off his hands when he crashes them. Oh, that's right. And then I fix them. There. There.
[00:02:39] See, that's how that works.
[00:02:40] There's a sequence going on here. And then I keep them, because if Reggie gets them back, then what's he do? He crashes them. He flies them. Oh, flies them. That's right. He flies them. Why is there? Oh, my gosh. Come on, Reggie.
[00:02:53] And then they come back to Dave, and then Dave repairs the repair that I repaired.
[00:02:57] I think there's a few that have gone to Tommy to fix, back to Reggie, and then to Dave so Tommy doesn't know that you crashed him again?
[00:03:06] I don't remember all that. I don't think we've gotten that far yet.
[00:03:11] Well, we'll get to the list momentarily, and then we'll know. I think. Probably. Maybe we won't.
[00:03:17] But, no. So, Reggie, thanks for coming back on. Not a problem. It's been a long time. I've been waiting. Have you? Yes, I've been waiting to come back. Well, just say something to us. You are always more than welcome.
[00:03:26] Anytime any of you guys want to be on, just let us know. Just like we tell all the rest of our listeners, if you want to be on the show, just contact us. We'll be happy to put you on the show.
[00:03:34] Pretty easy.
[00:03:35] Good deal. It's very easy.
[00:03:36] And you have our phone number, so all you've got to do is be like, hey. I have your address, even.
[00:03:40] Well, that sounded a little bit on the stalker side. A little. I'm a little concerned now.
[00:03:48] I know where you live.
[00:03:49] I know where you live.
[00:03:50] We're all going. By the way, this is exciting. We're all going to Toledo.
[00:03:53] Well, we think so. We think Dave's going to be able to go now. Yeah. I hope he can. See?
[00:03:58] I've got to clear my Sunday.
[00:03:59] Yeah. And Reggie has all but confirmed.
[00:04:03] We're coming back on Saturday. So, even if you don't clear your Sunday, you should be okay, right? Yeah.
[00:04:07] Yeah. We're going to come back Saturday afternoon or whatever.
[00:04:10] I'll do a 12-hour shift on two hours. Oh, I didn't think about that. Oh, yeah. I didn't think of that.
[00:04:14] If I can go, then I can drive. It's not a big deal.
[00:04:17] It's no if you can go. You are going. You're going to find a way to make it go.
[00:04:22] Ron just said it. You're going, Reggie. Whether you want to or not now, you're going. I don't know how I drive, by the way.
[00:04:26] And you're going to drive, by the way.
[00:04:28] Any kind of way.
[00:04:29] I didn't say he was going to drive. He said he was going to drive. I would drive.
[00:04:32] But then he said you're going.
[00:04:34] Well, yeah. Yeah, you're driving for you and I, by the way, Tommy. Well, I know. I'm going to be the one.
[00:04:39] Yeah, because the electric car will only go like 200 miles or something.
[00:04:43] It'll go farther than that. But it's just not going to carry as much as I want to buy. Yeah, but you don't have to worry about that now. I do, because Reggie's not bringing a semi. Well, that's not. He might not be.
[00:04:53] That's a possibility. It doesn't do. It's still a possibility.
[00:04:55] But me and Dave are not buying planes. Dave's going to probably have his expedition. Oh, that's the wrong attitude to go to the Toledo swap meet with, buddy. I'm buying parts. That's what my ideas are.
[00:05:07] Well, you should buy planes, because they turn into parts later.
[00:05:10] Right.
[00:05:12] Oh, my gosh. I'm sorry. Crystal said to behave. I guess I need to. Yeah. Okay. I'm going to be nice now. Okay.
[00:05:19] That sounds like an edit. Yeah, I think. No. That's recorded, so you have to be nice now.
[00:05:25] Mm-hmm.
[00:05:26] It's recorded, so. So that makes it true? So now if you're not nice, people can say, well, you said you were going to be nice, and now you're a liar, because you're not nice.
[00:05:33] Oh, I've been called that before.
[00:05:35] Oh, well, okay. Hmm.
[00:05:37] I wonder by whom.
[00:05:39] So, like, are you guys as excited? I don't know if anybody is as excited to go to the swap meet as me, but are you guys excited to go?
[00:05:46] I'm getting here. I mean, I think the day of, when we're actually leaving, then I'll be excited. Yeah.
[00:05:51] I'll be more excited when we walk in. How about you?
[00:05:54] Oh, that'd be awesome. Yeah.
[00:05:55] Dave? I'm just looking forward to a nice guy's weekend. Yes.
[00:05:58] Yeah, right? If it's as big as you guys say it is, yeah.
[00:06:01] Well, I've never been. I've never been to the Toledo. Dave's been to Toledo many, many times, back when it was weak signals and all that. But according to everything I've read on the internet, huge. Like, more than 350 tables. Like, my brain can't, like, comprehend.
[00:06:19] Yeah, like, we were trying to figure, the one we went to in Decatur, we figured it was probably, what, 3,000-ish square feet?
[00:06:28] Yeah, roughly.
[00:06:29] Like, what do you think? Fairly close. Okay, so this is supposed to be 75,000 square feet.
[00:06:35] 75,000. This is a Walmart, basically.
[00:06:38] Oh, I never thought of it that way.
[00:06:39] It's the Seagate Convention Center. So it's a huge, it's a convention center. I mean, it's big. It's designed to hold conventions and stuff.
[00:06:47] It's like a center designed to do that.
[00:06:48] Yeah. So, yeah. This is going to be good. So, yeah. This is going to be real good. Yeah. And I didn't think the Decatur one was all that bad. I mean, like, I was really excited about that one.
[00:06:56] Yeah.
[00:06:56] So if this one is whatever time is that one. Math. I can't do it.
[00:07:03] 75,000. Yeah, I'm, like, really excited. 25 times, by the way. Yeah.
[00:07:07] And I'm really excited now that you guys are potentially going also.
[00:07:11] Yeah, it's going to be fun. So, Hotel then.
[00:07:12] We need to talk to Bob, see if he's going.
[00:07:15] Well, I thought Reggie did.
[00:07:16] I have, and I don't think he's going to go. So, I mean, you can recall him. Bob, if you're listening, we really want you to go.
[00:07:22] Yeah. By the time this comes out, we should know for sure. Yeah, that's true. We have to.
[00:07:26] That's true.
[00:07:26] But you guys get in a hotel then? We probably ought to.
[00:07:29] If I go in a truck, I'm probably going to stay in a truck. But if we're rolling, I'm pretty sure.
[00:07:33] I'm not sleeping in the expedition. I'm too old for that. No kidding. I wouldn't even, I wouldn't want to do that.
[00:07:40] For what it's worth, on Priceline, I got a really good deal on a room. I forget the name of the place, but it's about three-ish miles away, something like that. Yeah. It's actually really close.
[00:07:51] In the past, it's always stayed out in Maumee. There was a Super 8 in Maumee that was really reasonable.
[00:07:57] Oh, okay. Well, there you go. So.
[00:08:00] I don't even know where we, it doesn't matter. But the one we're staying at, it's like 120 a night or something.
[00:08:06] Which was like. I know what you're talking about. It's cheaper than the block of rooms that they have set aside for the convention, or for the swap meets.
[00:08:13] If that was in the same building, I might have considered paying the extra. But we have to get into a car and go park no matter what.
[00:08:18] You still have to drive, yeah, no matter what.
[00:08:20] So three blocks or three miles doesn't make a big difference to me. Yeah.
[00:08:23] And the difference of 40 or 50 bucks a night was worth it to me.
[00:08:26] That's more airplanes.
[00:08:28] Exactly. That's how I think about it. More airplanes or, here, let me refer to Ron's list. Oh, my gosh. More airplanes or, wait, let me bring it up here. So here's Ron's list.
[00:08:39] Mm-hmm.
[00:08:41] Hardware, screws, miscellaneous, which means anything. Kits, ARFs, full airplanes, motors, servos, dot, dot, dot. Anything I can find. That's your list.
[00:08:51] It's not like Ron's bringing back the building.
[00:08:53] Yeah, I think Ron's going to go nuts.
[00:08:54] I have to watch what I, well, I don't have that much money, first off. We'll see what we can afford to bring back, and then we'll see what space we have. Well, I mean, if Reggie brings the semi, you've got a whole semi you're going to have to fill. We'll have to figure it out. No big deal. But Reggie's back. I'm so excited he's back talking to us.
[00:09:14] Yeah.
[00:09:15] So Reggie brought a list. He looks so excited, but he sounds so sad. I don't know why. Are you nervous? No, no, I'm good.
[00:09:21] I'm actually enjoying it. He's a little under the weather. Oh, okay. So he was kind enough to send us his list.
[00:09:28] I love this concept, by the way.
[00:09:29] I do, too.
[00:09:30] I like.
[00:09:30] It's a lot of fun. -huh. So Dave, when Dave was with us last time, he brought his number.
[00:09:37] I'm trying to be a little louder with those pieces of paper, would you? Not a problem. I can do it.
[00:09:42] Ron can just edit that out later. It's really easy to do.
[00:09:45] It's not how it works. Oh, anyway.
[00:09:51] So yeah, Dave brought his list, and it's shocking. When you've been in the hobby for a while, and you have a few airplanes under your belt, it's easy to lose track of how many you actually have currently. And then when you start thinking about airplanes you've had over the years, it's like, boy, I've had a lot of airplanes.
[00:10:11] Well, not for me yet. I tend to keep. Like, I am not good at getting rid of airplanes. Reggie, on the other hand, he gets rid of a lot. And I mean that in a nice way. Like, that came out badly. When we went to the Decatur swap meet, you bought a Telemaster. I did. You liked our Telemaster. So you ended up buying a smaller one, a.40 size. What happened to it?
[00:10:35] Well, I got together. Got everything sorted out. Flew it, I think, twice. There was a young man there at the field the day I was flying it. And I know he just started, so I just decided to give it to him.
[00:10:47] See, that's what he does a lot of. He does. There's a lot of, here, would you like this?
[00:10:52] Yeah, we give Reggie a lot of flack, but he is quite generous, I have to admit.
[00:10:58] Reggie's a good guy. He's fun to hang around, and he's a good sport, even though it might not come through very well in this. Knowing you in person is a little bit different. Thank you. We're not really roasting you as much as we're just having our normal conversations with you being very quiet this time.
[00:11:15] Yeah.
[00:11:16] I mean, right? Right, yeah.
[00:11:18] I'm just listening. So Reggie was kind enough to bring his list, and it's, I'll be honest, it's not as big as I thought it was going to be. Your list, that is. Because Ron's over there laughing. Appreciate you pointing that out.
[00:11:33] I don't know what we're…
[00:11:34] Yeah, I thought it was pretty decent. It's a well-rounded list, actually. I see there's a lot of, there's nitro planes on here. There's a big gasser on here. Yay. And there's electric balsa and foamy's on here. I mean, it's a pretty good cross-section of the hobby, honestly. You live in an apartment.
[00:11:55] Yes.
[00:11:56] And so what's shocking to me slightly is the number of airplanes that you are able to store and the amount of space you have.
[00:12:05] You both have seen that room.
[00:12:07] Yeah. It's incredible. And it's packed. It is.
[00:12:10] It's not just that room. I think the last time I was over at your place, there was an airplane in the kitchen. There was an airplane in the living room. Probably. And if I remember right, there was one or two on your bed.
[00:12:25] More than likely because of transferring from one room to the other, trying to make sure I'm not going to crush anything or break anything. I just set it off to the side until I got everything situated.
[00:12:37] So when you say all-encompassing of your life, that is definitely – it's taken over. I mean, it's taken over your life.
[00:12:45] I wouldn't say that far. Really? Yeah. I mean, the room needs to be straightened out. And once you've got so many in one spot, things are liable to get broke, and they do.
[00:12:57] When I say taken over, I mean, like, that's your main – that's the main thing you do for fun.
[00:13:04] Pretty much, yes.
[00:13:05] So that is absolutely your pastime. That's my passion. You're not much into sports, I don't think.
[00:13:12] Not too much.
[00:13:12] Yeah. I mean, like, I definitely am not. So our downtime, our recharge time, is doing stuff with our spare parts. Exactly.
[00:13:21] It's just relaxing. I mean, it's exhilarating and relaxing at the same time. And, of course, it can be a pain in it sometimes, but –
[00:13:29] Definitely exhilarating. So I'll give you that. That's what I like to do. Hey, listen, Ron, you mentioned airplanes in the kitchen and things like that. And I'm looking at your list here, Reggie. Now, I know it's been a while since I've been to your place. But the last time I was at your place, you had an airplane that you were working on in the kitchen. And I don't see it on this list. What plane was that?
[00:13:50] Great Plains Stearman, or maybe it was an Aeromaster, the red and white biplane. I thought that was on the list. I don't see it on here anywhere.
[00:13:59] Are we missing airplanes?
[00:14:00] Did I actually miss that? I think you may have missed at least one.
[00:14:04] In the box, not ready to fly.
[00:14:06] This one should be pretty close to ready to fly. Have you flown that one yet?
[00:14:11] No, it's still being put together.
[00:14:13] Oh, so it's still in progress then. So it begs the question, if you've missed that one, how many more have you not counted?
[00:14:22] Are you holding out on us? The reason why I missed that is because it was in the living room while I was in the playing room counting.
[00:14:28] So the three on the bed didn't get counted. Did you count the ones in the bedroom?
[00:14:32] Did you count the ones in the bathroom that you got stashed in the tub?
[00:14:36] There's nothing in the bathroom. Okay.
[00:14:38] How about in the suburban? You got any stashed in the suburban that you keep out there kind of permanent?
[00:14:42] Parts and pieces probably still laying in there, but no, everything else is parts and pieces.
[00:14:47] So there's at least one that you've missed. Old parts and pieces. Oh, okay. So the number. The number that we're concerned with. What's your number? Like the total number.
[00:15:00] Well, I guess now 46. At least. 46 plus what was missed?
[00:15:05] Well, 45. He's got 45 on the list.
[00:15:08] Well, but 46 plus, because you figured that out, plus whatever else. That's whatever else you may have missed. It was missed.
[00:15:14] So there's got to be some, there's got to be some more maybe in the, in the closets. Freezer? Maybe, maybe one stashed in the freezer so Lisa doesn't see it. What? I mean, this can't be all of them. I can only think of two. Two.
[00:15:28] Okay, here we go. I don't know what they are. They're like little gliders. They're basic balsa gliders, but I don't know what they are. They're probably maybe 24 inch wingspan. Those are the two, I told you, the kits. The last time I was on the show that I have never messed with, they're sitting in the closet. So you didn't count? Okay. I didn't count them.
[00:15:50] So I have two more. Gliders. You got Dave's attention. He likes gliders.
[00:15:54] They're 24 inch little gliders. I mean, they're not much of anything. I got them from a show guy, just gave them to me.
[00:16:01] Nice. So when you have a lot of airplanes, people give you airplanes.
[00:16:06] And then you forget you have them.
[00:16:07] And then you forget you have them. I wish I had that problem.
[00:16:09] I have one I always forget I have.
[00:16:12] That one over there?
[00:16:13] Yeah, because it's hanging over there and I don't ever look over there.
[00:16:15] You'll be surprised how many times I've been out flying and actually had people see me flying and come over and ask me, do I want some airplanes they just want to get rid of?
[00:16:24] Really?
[00:16:25] I've got a phone number of at least two people that I can call and see if they still have them.
[00:16:29] And you haven't done that? I don't. Well, here's the thing.
[00:16:32] You have friends. So it's all about exposure. And Reggie flies in areas that exposes people to the hobby. See how that works?
[00:16:40] So that's a good thing. He flies where he flies.
[00:16:43] Thank you.
[00:16:43] Is that good exposure?
[00:16:44] Yeah. Well, it's exposure. Apparently, I guess. Apparently, it's good exposure.
[00:16:47] I've never had no bad slack yet.
[00:16:49] Really? Not that I knew about. I'm glad you quantified that because I'm pretty sure if somebody had crashed an airplane on the roof of my house, I might be slightly upset. Wow. We weren't that far back.
[00:17:05] That far back months. It wasn't that far. A couple few months. A few months, I think. Did you hear that story, Dave? I believe I did, yes. Yeah. Reggie, what happened?
[00:17:17] He's told us. I was flying in my neighborhood. I just rebuilt my Carbon Z Cub. And it's flying perfectly. But apparently, I did not have the elevator plug fully in. And during flight, it came undone. And I knew I had seen it because I was getting no altitude whatsoever. And I knew it was going to go down. So the best I could do is just kill power and hope for the best. And look for it for about a good two or three hours. Could not find it.
[00:17:45] It actually came up on the app of Nextdoor. It was a picture. And it said, did anybody lose an airplane?
[00:17:54] Is this yours? Basically.
[00:17:57] So I got in contact with a guy and went there the next day. And sure enough, it was right there. Where did it land? It hit a tree, dropped from the tree, landed on the roof, then fell into the backyard.
[00:18:08] Oh, my God. Well, that's not as bad as I was imagining. I was imagining that it, like, no kidding, crashed on the roof. Just died by the roof. No. Okay, so it hit the tree first. Hit the tree first. Oh, well, that's not. I mean, that's.
[00:18:18] The scary part was it still not good. I wasn't worried about the plane so much. I was just worried about where it hit or what it might have hit.
[00:18:24] Yeah.
[00:18:25] And, of course, that carried a six-cell battery in it. And it was a brand-new battery.
[00:18:30] That's a big battery.
[00:18:31] And I asked the guy. I had got his phone number, and I called him. And I asked him, okay, is the battery out of the plane? And he said, yes. I said it was laying on the ground. I said, what did it look like? Is it swollen up or anything? He said, what's almost bent in an L-shape? Oh, jeez. I said, get it out of the house. Whatever you do, take it out of the house. Yeah, don't store that in your garage.
[00:18:49] You put it in the garage. Oh. So that's where it was when you picked it up in the garage? It was in the garage. Wow.
[00:18:54] Oh, yeah. Very, very. That's what ended my flying in my neighborhood.
[00:18:58] So we've told this story. So that's what ended the flying in my neighborhood. That ended the flying. Yeah. Not the fact that your friends were saying, hey, this isn't a good idea.
[00:19:06] Well, yeah, that had an effect, too, because I knew I was going to have to hear about this later. So I thought about, you guys were right.
[00:19:13] Let me just follow your advice. Hold on. Could you, one more time, please? What?
[00:19:17] You guys were right.
[00:19:20] Nice. I don't hear that often enough.
[00:19:23] Not often.
[00:19:23] Well, see, we told that story on the podcast, but we left it as an anonymous story. Yes, we did. Because I didn't want to throw any name out with it. We've had some other crashes that weren't.
[00:19:32] I'm sorry. That's totally my fault for bringing that up. I'm sorry, Reggie. It's all good. I did. I totally forgot that we kept, that we made that up.
[00:19:41] I forgot. That's okay. So we've had other crash stories we have heard that have not been Reggie.
[00:19:47] Well, that's true.
[00:19:47] That one happened to be.
[00:19:49] That was all Reggie.
[00:19:50] Happened to be all Reggie.
[00:19:51] I'll own that.
[00:19:52] I will own that. Well, I feel like any crash story where you can learn a lesson from is not a complete waste, and you learned a lesson. So there you go. Thank you.
[00:20:01] Yeah. Flying in the… Are you okay? Do we need to take a break for you to go clear your throat? Nope.
[00:20:07] Okay. Gotta let it calm down.
[00:20:08] Yeah. I love the fact that he came over here to record and is sick.
[00:20:12] I am not sick. It's just I got drainage going down the back of my throat, and this is what's got all this going.
[00:20:18] Isn't that by definition sick? I mean… Not really. Sinuses? That's not considered to be sick. Really? Yep.
[00:20:24] Oh. Okay.
[00:20:25] Well, thank you, doctor.
[20:26] UNKNOWN: Thank you.[00:20:27] All right. So back to the list. I'm looking at Reggie's list right now, and yeah, you've pretty much got everything represented. Well, what I don't see on here? What's that? And Dave hopefully will back me up on this. I don't see any World War I stuff on here. No? Why? What do you got against World War I stuff?
[00:20:48] I have nothing at all.
[00:20:49] I don't see a camel. I don't see a strutter. I don't see a pup. I don't see a Eindecker. I don't see any. Like what gives? I just had no interest in anything World War I, I don't think.
[00:21:03] See, I'm with you. Like, I like them, but I don't necessarily…
[00:21:06] You have a Taub, which is World War I-ish.
[00:21:09] See, to me, that's… Well, that's… Okay, World War I era. It's more beginning of flight era for me. Well, okay. So, it's an old airplane. And I guess… So, when you say World War I stuff, are you talking like actual… Well, I guess… Fought in World War I? 1914 to 1918. Thank you. But are you talking about those planes had to be military-type aircraft or just anything from that era?
[00:21:35] Generally speaking, I'm talking about from that era, but…
[00:21:38] Anything prior to 1914 was considered pioneer era. There we go. Okay. So, what was the Taub? When was that? Taub would be… 1914, 15.
[00:21:46] Yeah. Okay. It could be World War I era. Okay. See? So, Reggie, yes. You need to rectify that. Like, immediately. Immediately? Because you've got… I mean, you've got World War II covered. You've got pretty much all facets of civilian aviation covered.
[00:22:04] Well, before we get into it too much, who wants to read the list? That way, we can at least… Oh, I'll read the list. Okay.
[00:22:10] All right. So, here's Reggie's list. So, I'll start with the ones that you have not done anything with yet, that they're still in the box. Hangar 9, we have a group of those. You have the F4 Corsair. Excuse me. The P40 Warhawk. Those are both the 50 size. And then you have the F6F Hellcat, which is the one I want, in the 15cc size.
[00:22:35] And that P40 is the one that you, Reggie, were one of the four of us that bought them. I recently got rid of mine, which… Yep.
[00:22:43] Reggie still has his.
[00:22:45] Upset. Well, yeah.
[00:22:46] And mine is flyable. But anyway, I digress. All right. So, next we have Seagull. We have the Ultimate Biplane and a Cessna 152. Both of those good flying airplanes. You have a Sig Rascal 110, still new in the box. And then you have a Flex Innovations Vintique, which that's a pretty good flying airplane, too. All right. So, then you have… We're moving on to not ready to fly. They require a little bit of assembly. Would you agree with that assessment? Yes.
[00:23:15] The Hangar 9 150 size P51, assembly required. Great Plains 60 size P51, assembly required.
[00:23:22] So, that means you've started on them, but… Yes.
[00:23:24] Okay. And FMS Corsair, the 1400 millimeter one. And now you have written next to that in parentheses, repairs. So, that means you've flown it?
[00:23:34] I've flown it. For some reason, it wanted to porpoise quite a bit. And when it came in, it actually knocked off, I think, a retrack, if I remember right. I mean, everything was still there. It's just… It's a foamy.
[00:23:46] Okay.
[00:23:47] But it just needed to be glued back into place and try to figure out what was going on. I think it was something with the CG to cause it to porpoise like the way it was doing. Sounds like a CG issue.
[00:23:57] Or a servo that doesn't like the center. We've figured that one out.
[00:24:00] All right. Next, we have a Phoenix Models Super Tacano. That says repairs. And I think I know… I think that's the one Dave's working on.
[00:24:09] I know exactly where that airplane's at.
[00:24:10] Yep. Dave knows where that one's at. Is that one you've worked on, Tommy, also? I think I just tuned it. Like, I don't think I actually did anything with it. We had that 60 size OS motor on that.
[00:24:20] 61 or whatever it was.
[00:24:22] No, you had just put an AX on it, I think, when we tuned it up. Yeah. In the garage over where you worked. Yeah, that was the AX.
[00:24:30] But we just… We couldn't… The CG was, like, way off. It was way nose heavy. Yeah. So I ended up taking that off and putting a 46 on top of that.
[00:24:40] Oh, okay. All right. So that one is currently at Dave's hangar, undergoing some repairs. What happened to that one?
[00:24:50] I died in flight about four feet off the ground and just dropped like a sack. And it landed right up on the nose gear.
[00:24:58] Retractable gear, right?
[00:24:59] No.
[00:25:00] It was actually fixed. Retractable now. Yep. We want retracts now. He retracted them upon an early landing. A forced retraction. A forced retraction.
[00:25:10] We've actually bought retracts for the plane. Mechanical retracts. Oh, so you're retrofitting it. Yep. So the repairs are now being upgraded. Nice.
[00:25:18] And by we, let's go to Dave. You mean Dave over here?
[00:25:22] Dave is…
[00:25:22] How's that going, buddy?
[00:25:23] Oh, I love mechanical retracts.
[00:25:26] Well, you would…
[00:25:27] Yeah, Dave and I were talking about this a little bit earlier. Dave, would you explain the conundrum with this particular design? This is the strangest setup I've seen for mechanical retracts.
[00:25:37] This wing is not a single-piece wing. It's two halves. The retract servo for the main gear stays in the fuselage. So in order to take the wings off of it, you have to disconnect the linkages from the servo.
[00:25:53] And I'm looking at Reggie, and it looks like he's hearing this for the first time.
[00:25:56] It is. I'm glad you have a Suburban, because you're not going to want to take this one apart on a regular basis.
[00:26:01] I never took it apart.
[00:26:03] Because you're either going to have to disconnect the clevis from the retract, which is buried inside the wing, or you're going to have to take the stopper off the linkage in the fuselage and readjust that every time you take the wing on and off. What a crappy design.
[00:26:20] It's going to continue to stay as one piece in the Suburban the whole time.
[00:26:24] And that goes for the nose gear as well? And the nose gear is the same, although that stays with the fuselage.
[00:26:29] Yeah. So what's the wingspan on that one? I don't remember.
[00:26:33] 64 1⁄2 or 65 or something like that?
[00:26:35] It's not a huge airplane. Yeah, so that's not too bad.
[00:26:37] So it's a one piece, or yeah, with a Suburban, it shouldn't be. It should be pretty decent, yeah.
[00:26:42] Is it a pain to get in and out of the house?
[00:26:44] No.
[00:26:45] Oh, okay. Actually not.
[00:26:45] He got my house in one piece. Well, not saying something, because I've seen your house.
[00:26:52] My travel trailer is almost as big as my house.
[00:26:54] Yeah, there's a few tight corners you have to turn. Almost as bad as making that turn to go into my basement, but anyway. All right, so that's the Tucano. And then unknown manufacturers, you have a 40-size high-wing trainer. That says assembly required. Okay, so you're in the middle of that one. And then a free-wing B-17. What size? That's a big one, right?
[00:27:17] I can't remember if that was over 1,800 millimeter or just below it.
[00:27:21] So that's 40-ish something?
[00:27:23] 875.
[00:27:24] Okay. You have repairs. What happened to this one?
[00:27:28] Believe it or not, I had bought that one brand new.
[00:27:34] You bought it brand new, and you don't know who made it?
[00:27:37] Well, he has so many.
[00:27:38] That was a free-wing. It's a free-wing.
[00:27:40] Oh, well, you have unknown.
[00:27:43] I was guessing. I couldn't remember it at first. Oh, okay. I wrote this all down, and then it eventually came back and thought it through. Okay. But it's a free-wing. It was just like the one, if you guys remember, when Falcon first opened up, there was one hanging in there. It stayed in there for like six months.
[00:27:59] Is this that one? Is it the one they had hanging up? Because I remember that.
[00:28:03] This is the second one. Okay. So this one was a new one. The first one was the one that decided to make a few extra. I actually know it was me showing off and end up scaling a light pole over at one of the churches. Okay. So hold on, hold on. Yeah, this has been a while ago.
[00:28:18] That's a long time. There was two of the exact same airplane then? So Falcon Hobbies was the hobby shop, the most recent one we had here in Springfield that closed. So the one, the B-17 you remember.
[00:28:31] It was the one that was hanging up at the store on Dirksen, right? Because they had one. Yeah, they had one hanging up like as you walk in. they had the, if I remember correctly, they had the cases on the left. As soon as you walked in, they had like.
[00:28:43] It was like their little display of nostalgia. all the old stuff.
[00:28:48] And then it kind of was above the counter from. Anyway, so that goes, that goes back a while. Okay. So this is number two.
[00:28:56] Number two, I got the CG wrong. And sure enough, it was tail heavy. So when it lifted off the ground, it pretty much just did a 90 degree and went straight up. And I already knew it was done.
[00:29:10] So did you check it or?
[00:29:12] I did not.
[00:29:13] Oh, always check CG.
[00:29:15] This was in the beginning of a lot of this. So I wasn't for sure about a lot of things.
[00:29:19] Yeah, this, this was, so I remember because you were getting into the, to the electric multi-engine stuff, like, because you had a B25. I think you had a B24 also. B25, B24, B17. Yeah. So this was all kind of. Way back when. It was like all in once. And yeah, I can, I could see.
[00:29:40] The biggest thing was I thought most foamy planes right out of the box. The CG was normally right on.
[00:29:45] Yeah. You just put stuff where they tell you to put it and it's perfect, right?
[00:29:47] But I thought wrong because I put the CG a little too far back.
[00:29:52] Yeah.
[00:29:53] After it was way too far back.
[00:29:55] And to be fair. To be fair. To be fair. They don't, like these, like free wing, I can imagine the rest of them are all the same. They don't do a very good job of telling you in the manual where to put the CG. If they tell you at all sometimes. I've come across that a few times myself.
[00:30:12] Well, I found when I looked these planes up, like on YouTube, you get to go through the threads of what everybody's talking about and you generally figure out if everybody's pretty close to this gray area, that's about where you stay at.
[00:30:24] It's a good place to start, at least.
[00:30:26] It works out pretty good now.
[00:30:28] So the first one, though, ended up in a light pole.
[00:30:32] No, it missed the light pole. It just, I walked it all the way over to a church roof and that's where its demise met.
[00:30:38] Oh, so you, you missed.
[00:30:40] Basically, I flew straight up a light pole and then everything from that point on was just trying to save the plane and.
[00:30:47] What do you mean straight up a light? I don't.
[00:30:48] As in I came across the parking lot at a low altitude, not realizing I was standing directly in front of a light pole. So it was behind you? It was behind me. So you, you flew behind you? It flew toward me.
[00:30:59] He missed the light pole.
[00:31:00] And didn't realize that the light pole was directly off to the back left side of me. So when I was going to go by myself with the plane, I saw the light pole and pulled straight back on the sticks and it went straight up. At that point, it lost all momentum and it was flying on all four motors, just trying to pull it upright and trying to stall, trying to save it, trying to stall, trying to save
[00:31:22] It. So you fought it. You fought it all the way to the church roof.
[00:31:24] I fought it all the way over to a church roof before it was just not going to save itself no more.
[00:31:29] What have we said about not flying like a minute?
[00:31:31] Well, a few times. Do you still fly there by the way?
[00:31:36] Do you still fly there by the way?
[00:31:38] That church? Yes, I do. I am now more well aware of my surroundings versus showing off and I make sure I stay from over the buildings, from over the highway, from over the power lines, over any cars. If there's anybody there, we try to fly around the back of the building, over the field.
[00:31:52] Do the people who run or own or operate the church, do they know you guys?
[00:31:58] Yes. That was the first thing I did was ask permission to make sure we're all good.
[00:32:01] Oh, okay. That's a lot better then. Yes. I mean, it's at least an okay. I agree.
[00:32:05] And they only fly electrics out there, small electrics. Bob flies there too.
[00:32:09] Oh, okay. Only electrics though?
[00:32:11] Yep. Yeah. Okay. Okay. So, this is the second B-17 and it also needs repairs now. Okay. So, moving on.
[00:32:19] How bad is that? Like, is that an easy fix on that one?
[00:32:21] Yeah. Actually, I've just reacquired the props for it. And I think the only other damage was, it still needs a nose cone or the glass nose for it.
[00:32:33] Or plastic nose, whatever. I know what you're talking about.
[00:32:36] But, everything else has been fixed. I'm waiting to try to fly it and see what it's going to do.
[00:32:41] Mm-hmm. Hopefully better than the first time.
[00:32:43] I would hope so. If not, I might have some more spare parts.
[32:47] UNKNOWN: What?[00:32:48] So, next on the list, you've got a 45 written by it because this is after 13 and you clearly remembered this one after you made your list. It's like, oh yeah, I forgot about this one. the P-39, which I know the story on this one. will you be able to repair that one or do you think it's… I know you still have it.
[00:33:05] It's going to be a fuse and a wing. Okay.
[00:33:06] This was the battery incident where he put the battery in without the tray and the battery moved and subsequently came out of the airplane in flight and…
[00:33:13] So, you said it needs a fuse and a wing? Yep. Isn't that the whole airplane? well…
[00:33:19] Nice tail section.
[33:21] UNKNOWN: I guess so.[00:33:22] Well, the electronics are probably… The wing can be probably put back together. But a lot of my planes, if I've actually crashed them, I don't like trying to, basically Frankenstein them back together.
[00:33:33] Why not? I don't know. Is that foam or is that… It's foam. Oh, okay. Well, yeah, that should be burnt anyway.
[00:33:40] So… All right. So that's, so that is the list of in the box and or airplanes that are waiting for final assembly or repairs. so that's basically 14 if I'm counting correctly.
[00:33:53] That's right.
[00:33:53] All right. So next we move on to the list I care the most about. There's the ones that are ready to fly. Like right now, you could stick a battery in them or fill them up with fuel, fire them up and ready to take them flying. Right? Right. Okay. Okay. Here we go. Let's see. P-51, BL Mustang. Was that brushless?
[00:34:11] Yes.
[00:34:12] Brushless. Okay.
[00:34:12] So this is, this is E-Flight or Park Zone.
[00:34:15] Oh, I'm sorry. Yes. Thank you. the E-Flight or Park Zone. It's quite a list. the SU-29 Sukhoi, F4F Wildcat, which you've always had a Wildcat. Like I think that was one of your first airplanes, right? Right. It was the E-Flight Wildcat…. I'm surprised you can still find parts for these things.
[00:34:34] I actually bought that at Jason's shop. That's about one of the first few times when I met you, they had one hanging in there. Mm-hmm.
[00:34:41] Yeah. Because this one is not that one.
[00:34:42] No, definitely not.
[00:34:43] I was gonna say. That's probably about number 12 or 15, somewhere near. Because you had several of them.
[00:34:46] But you've always, but you've always had one.
[00:34:48] Yeah. And it's like obviously something that's very near and dear to you because you've always had one.
[00:34:54] I just, it was like an Achilles heel for a while. It's like I'd fly it and I'd get into it and next thing destroy it. Yeah. And it was always just little things that would cause a crash. I am going to conquer this thing. That's exactly the attitude I had.
[00:35:06] Yeah. Almost like a Jack in the Box sign, just popped up out of nowhere.
[00:35:10] Exactly, Ron.
[00:35:11] Thank you. That was probably number 12 right there. That was that plane though, right? Yeah. That's what I thought.
[00:35:18] That's exactly what it was. That was one truck stop, basically about four feet of grass, about maybe eight feet long. And I thought I could nail it no problem. And the only thing I nailed was a Jack in the Box sign. You nailed it. You definitely nailed it. Oh, about 10th of a mile away, about two, 300 feet up in here.
[00:35:39] 10th of a mile away. Okay, so I'm going to say the Jack in the Box line was probably, honestly, maybe 50 feet in the air, not two or 300 feet. Oh, no, it's one of those big ones by the highway. It might be 100. I bet the distance though, where it actually was away from him, was probably closer to a half mile, if not more. Reggie flies far away.
[00:35:57] That one, you have to remember, it's not that big.
[00:36:00] I had to still at least be able to see it. It is a small airplane. And generally speaking, you fly to the point where you can just barely make it out. Barely make it out. It doesn't matter how big the airplane is.
[00:36:09] I mean, that's not a joke. I actually will fly it that far away. It's not smart.
[00:36:12] Even your big S-Box, like it will be a mile out and you'll be like, is that coming towards me or going away? I can't tell. Let's guess.
[00:36:18] I don't think it's that far away, but.
[00:36:21] Oh, no.
[00:36:22] I feel safer with him flying that far away.
[36:26] UNKNOWN: Yeah.[00:36:26] Thanks, Dave. I appreciate that.
[00:36:28] Yeah, but nobody else.
[00:36:29] And Dave in from the top rope with an elbow drop.
[36:33] UNKNOWN: Perfect.[00:36:36] Nobody in the houses over there do, but that's okay.
[00:36:41] So anyway, no, I think that's awesome that you still have enough. This one's ready to go? Yeah. That's awesome.
[00:36:47] Have you flown it yet? I haven't flown it in a while. Oh, in a while? You have flown it though? Yeah, I still fly it, but I haven't done it in a while. I was just going to say, if he hadn't flown it, that's why it's still ready to go.
[00:36:56] No, I fly it once in a while. I mean, actually, there's a few on here. The kid that we were talking about earlier, as far as I gave that Telemaster to, I was actually going to give those to him.
[00:37:06] Not the Wildcat. Yeah.
[00:37:09] The Wildcat, that BL Mustaine, probably the P-28. You have to keep the Wildcat. Well, I was going to keep the one with the Retrex. Oh, you got more than one of them? You have a Wildcat with a Retrex? Yeah, I got another one with a Retrex on it.
[00:37:21] Who makes that one?
[00:37:22] Banana Hobby. Do the Retrex actually pop up?
[00:37:26] No way. The wings fold. Yep. Really? Yeah. I'm going to have to look. I don't like foamies, but I like the Wildcat too. So, one with scale, kind of retractable gear, I think that's awesome. Okay, moving on. So, next is a T-28. That was a good fly good too. Oh, yeah. Still E-Flight. Carbon Z Cessna. Yep. The F-27 Striker, which I have one of those two. Those are fun to fly. The UMX, a Waco biplane, and then the UMX Aero Commander.
[00:37:54] So, is it Waco or Waco?
[00:37:55] Well, it depends on my mood. So, we have a UMX citation.
[00:37:59] Well, no, like seriously. How does that fly? Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Because I always say Waco, but I don't. It's Waco. It is Waco? Oh, I've been saying it.
[00:38:06] Technically, I believe it's Waco. Weaver Aircraft Company. Oh, there you go. Okay.
[38:11] UNKNOWN: Yeah.[00:38:11] See, Dave's like the quiet guy in the back that knows everything. Everything. And only chimes in when he feels like we have said something so stupid it needs to be corrected.
[00:38:20] That's when off the top rope comes in. We should hire him to like be here for every episode.
[00:38:25] Maybe he should be our like technical guy. He should.
[00:38:28] Yeah. That's a good idea because I don't know anything.
[00:38:30] That's actually a really good idea.
[00:38:31] You could be here every weekend, Dave.
[00:38:32] All right. So, the UMX citation. How's that fly? Does it fly good? Awesome.
[00:38:37] It's actually got safe technology as well.
[00:38:39] Yeah. I was going to say most of the UMX stuff, Dave mentioned it earlier when we were talking the UMX stuff flies all good. So, the Viper Jet EDF. Oh, the 70 millimeter, which you said you're upgrading.
[00:38:50] I'm going to get the 90 millimeter eventually.
[00:38:53] Ah.
[00:38:53] Battery, battery, battery. I would say closer than… Farther? I think. Yes.
[00:39:00] Now, we'll go through this, but I want to circle back when you say battery, battery, battery. I want to talk about…
[00:39:05] Yeah, we're getting to that.
[00:39:06] …your batteries and how many you have.
[00:39:08] Write it down so we don't forget. I don't have a pen.
[00:39:10] I'm actually nervous on how many I actually have.
[00:39:13] Thank you.
[00:39:14] All right. So, we got the Viper. You're going to upgrade that. The A6… Oh, T6 Texan. Yep. And then you have a Pitts S1. Yep. You have an Apprentice. A P51 Mustang UMX. Those fly good. I've flown one of those. SU-30. Is that the blue and white one? Yes. Yeah. Okay. Those are cool looking. That's a twin 70, isn't it? Yes. Yeah, yeah. All right. And then… So, moving on up here, we have the F15. I'm assuming that's still E-Flight because it's under the…
[00:39:44] Yes.
[00:39:44] Okay. All right. And then you have FMS, the 1700 millimeter P51. That's the smaller one. The B25, 1500 millimeter SBOK. Have you flown that one much? Oh, yeah. Yes. Because I think that was the one that I wanted and you bought. So, moving on. I'm just teasing. I'm just teasing. So, Free Wing, the B24. There's the B24. Hobby King, B17. Is this a bigger one than the other one? That's a bigger one. Okay.
[00:40:10] That high is awesome, too. That's why I'm terrible with millimeter. 1875 millimeter is what an inch?
[00:40:15] I think that's about 46 to 50 inches, I think. That's more than that. Oh, is it? Because the…
[00:40:20] It's roughly three foot.
[00:40:22] Okay.
[00:40:23] Oh, okay. So, yeah.
[00:40:25] It's five foot something.
[00:40:26] I just went…
[00:40:27] Yeah, okay. So, it's a little… It's less than six feet.
[00:40:29] It was about 78 inches, I thought.
[00:40:32] No, that would be because 72 is six feet. Yeah. So, if it's under that, maybe 64, 65. You could always ask. Alexa, how many inches are in 1875 millimeters?
[00:40:46] 1,875 millimeters is about 73.82 inches.
[00:40:52] Oh, 73 inches. So, that means that's… What are we coming up with? Somebody Google that, too. That's over six foot.
[00:40:58] Well, 72 inches is six feet.
[00:41:00] Well, I know. That means Dave is wrong, and then he just lost his job. He is no longer our technical advisor. If 36 inches is 1,000 millimeters…
[00:41:09] Yeah.
[00:41:09] A meter, which is 1,000 millimeters, is just over three feet. Oh, just over three feet. Oh, yeah. So, I guess that would end up being… Okay. You're back to being hired. You're hired, Dave. You're back to our technical guy. I mean, everybody can make mistakes every now and then. Are you… You're actually… I'm actually…
[00:41:30] Yeah. I'm curious now. What are we… 1875. Yeah. 73.8 inches.
[00:41:37] Okay. Well… That's a big B-17. That's a pretty good size, then. It's a decent size. That's, like, over six feet.
[00:41:43] Just buried it. Thanks, Ron. So, after all that, we're moving on. Hanger 9 Ultra Stick. Is this the big one that you got just recently? I just got, yes. Big electric, right?
[00:41:53] Yes. Is that green and white or something? Yeah. Yellow and white. Yeah. That's what I meant. Yellow and white.
[00:41:57] I thought there was green on it.
[00:41:59] There's another one. There's a green and white one, too.
[00:42:01] Maybe that's the one I'm thinking of. So, that's not the one…
[00:42:03] No. It's a 30cc. Yeah. It actually runs off of an E-Flight 50 size motor. I don't know.
[00:42:15] Yeah, we'll call it. You're the electrical guy.. I don't do that. I mean, like, the big stuff in that. I don't do that. I don't do that. No, I don't. I'm not sure.
[00:42:23] And then we got… So, the Hangar 9 60 size P-51. Now, these are all airplanes that are ready to fly, by the way. So, we're on 36 already. So, Great Plains Escapade. That's the 60 size version. The Avastar, which is… You have 30cc. I didn't know they made a big 30cc Avastar. That's awesome. That'd be a good trainer. Dave's worked on that twice. Good trainer. SIG Cadet Senior Sport.
[42:49] UNKNOWN: And then…[00:42:50] The SBAC. The Pilot SBAC 36%.
[00:42:52] The Pilot. I did that earlier, yeah. You did. Because I didn't keep reading. Yeah. So, this is the one that I built for you. Yes. Correctly. It's been, say, eight years ago.
[00:43:00] Way back when.
[00:43:01] Park Zone Cub. And then Banana Hobby F4 F Wildcat with the Retrex. Exactly. I got to see that one. And then you have a Vapor and a Night Vapor. Correct. And then, yeah, you moved 45 over to the broken column. And then we have one that…
[00:43:18] The Great Plains Super Stearman.
[00:43:22] Yeah. So, that's Reggie's list. It's pretty comprehensive. Like I said, you cover pretty much every aspect except the World War I era.
[00:43:32] World War I. Or the pioneering era. I'm sorry. I just had… I don't know. They don't do much for me. I like them. Don't get me wrong. I think they're beautiful. They look very complicated. That's Dave's thing.
[00:43:42] Dave is… And does a really good job with it. I saw the one he just said. And he flies them well, too. Yes. Dave's let me try to fly his World War I stuff before and it was ugly. That bad? Oh, it was… That was awful. There's definitely a technique, right? Once they're airborne, they're fine.
[00:43:59] They're just like a trainer.
[00:44:01] Yep. It's like I have to have Dave take it off for me so I can fly it. Like ground handling, they definitely… There's definitely a technique that I… They can be a handful. That I'm… Might be one reason why my camel is taking forever to build.
[00:44:16] You just are afraid.
[00:44:18] I'm just scared to death to take it off. After all that work, I can see why. Yeah.
[00:44:23] Because none of those look just simply like they're going to go together to me.
[00:44:27] Yeah. I don't know. Mine will definitely be a one-piecer. Like when it's together, it will have so many wires and things. And it's not a very big…
[00:44:37] There's wires and cables everywhere.
[00:44:38] Yeah. And mine will…
[00:44:39] You don't have to undo that.
[00:44:40] Mine will stay together once it's together.
[00:44:42] I will say when I went by Dave's the other day and saw the one he had built, which I cannot think of the name of that for the…
[00:44:48] The right flyer. The right flyer. The right flyer.
[00:44:51] He made it look so simple, but yet so complicated all in one motion. Dave has a way of doing that. It was gorgeous. Even the cart that it will fly off of.
[00:45:00] Oh, did you get the launch mechanism done? I built a cart. Yeah. Sweet.
[00:45:04] Oh, yeah.
[00:45:04] Last time we talked about it, you hadn't done that yet.
[00:45:07] Yeah. I went out to the garage and cut up some plywood.
[00:45:10] The last one that we had Dave out here and now, you got it built already? Yeah.
[45:13] UNKNOWN: Holy crap.[00:45:14] I will admit I haven't stained it or finished it.
[00:45:17] I want to make sure it works right before we do the staining and the cart before the horse. Wow. Put the cart before the horse. Yeah. I mean, I understand that, but wow. That's awesome. Somebody's been busy.
[00:45:32] Yeah. Busier than, like, I've managed to install some servos since last time we talked.
[45:38] UNKNOWN: Okay.[00:45:38] And then you had to take them out because they were bad.
[00:45:40] Because they were terrible. Yeah.
[00:45:41] Anyway.
[00:45:43] Yeah. So, that's a pretty good list. So, if you get to go to Toledo. Right. And this is actually a question for both of you. Anything particular you guys are going to be looking for? Or is your list, shall I bring it up again, like Ron's list?
[00:45:58] Just whatever you can find. For me, I'm just, I think, 20 to 35cc motors is what I'm kind of looking for. I guess just any parts that kind of ring a bell that I may need.
[00:46:11] What happens, okay, let's say you're at this swap meet, and somebody's got a brand new in-box E-Flight F4F Wildcat. Do you buy it? No.
[00:46:22] Really?
[00:46:22] Wow.
[00:46:23] I am going to probably stick to my guns on buying planes. I've got no choice. I mean, just bring it home and do what? There's nowhere to put it.
[00:46:30] I can always take your old ones off your hands. I'm sure you could.
[00:46:33] Ron is always willing to take your unwanted airplanes.
[00:46:37] Absolutely.
[00:46:38] That's just it. They're all wanted. The only ones I'm giving away is just because I know this kid's just getting started to help them out.
[00:46:45] Well, so am I.
[00:46:45] Which I think that's awesome. Less chances of me stepping over it or stepping into it or falling over it or something. True. Yeah.
[00:46:52] There does come a point when you have to be able to move about in your airplane room. And you're getting to the point where… I actually just cleared some of that out.
[00:47:03] Did you? Because there was an actual biplane on the list I had just sold.
[00:47:07] You sold a biplane? I did. Did you sell it to Bob? I did. How did I know? Like, how did I know that? So… Bob is like really into biplanes right now. Which I love because I'm a huge biplane guy.
[00:47:20] He told me his count. I can't remember what it was. I thought he was up on 15 or 20 biplanes or something or maybe not there.
[00:47:26] Well, I think he's going to be next. So let's not give away his number.
[00:47:29] No, no. We're good. We're good. Yeah.
[00:47:30] You're not going to get his number.
[47:32] UNKNOWN: I don't know his…[00:47:32] He said he was making a list already.
[00:47:34] He's still trying to figure out how many he's got.
[00:47:36] Oh, well, he's got some time. He has a warehouse. He's got two warehouses, doesn't he?
[00:47:41] And a basement. And a room. And another room. Yeah.
[00:47:45] Well, without giving away too much, he has at least three large locations in which to store stuff.
[00:47:57] Okay. Let's not give it away.
[00:47:58] Well, let's save that for next time. I'm really super excited to talk to Bob and have him on the show too. I'm glad he agreed to do it. Yeah. So batteries. Yeah, let's go back to batteries. We wanted to come back to batteries.
[00:48:08] How many batteries do you have? Do you have any idea?
[00:48:10] I have no idea.
[00:48:11] That should be another topic.
[00:48:13] We should give a number for that. I should have probably… I was actually thinking of that, but… Mine's really low. I have no idea. I can tell you I've got… It's either five or six LiPo battery bags full of batteries. And some of the batteries are still not in those.
[00:48:27] I have two 50 caliber ammo cans. Filled?
[00:48:31] I'm sure. Mm.
[00:48:33] There's space in there for smaller ones.
[00:48:37] Man. That's a lot of batteries. Like we had talked about before, I actually just went through and got rid of a lot of my old ones. I disposed of 36 batteries. Wow. They were just older ones I didn't trust, didn't need, didn't want, and I shouldn't say one, but they were just not good batteries anymore. Yeah. That's why I didn't need them because I would not feel safe flying with them. So I am down to like 16 or 17 regular flyable batteries now.
[00:49:06] Which is twice as many batteries I think that I have.
[00:49:08] Well, you're nitro, so I'm not surprised.
[00:49:10] I can't remember if I got 13 to 15 six cell batteries.
[00:49:14] Yeah. Just six cells. I have zero six cells. Holy moly.
[00:49:17] 13 to 15 six cell batteries.
[00:49:19] What's the most you spend on a battery?
[00:49:21] About 150 bucks. On one battery? On one battery. But see, that's actually not bad. If you look at some of the battery pricing. Oh, that's not bad? Look at some of the battery pricing on some of these batteries. I mean, they're hitting $200, $300 per battery. One battery.
[00:49:36] See. That negates the savings of not using nitro, in my opinion.
[00:49:41] Or gas at that point.
[00:49:43] Or gas at that point.
[00:49:43] You're talking about the size of battery he's talking about.
[00:49:45] You can, in my opinion, you can overdo the electric side of things where it's too much of an electric motor where you're better off going with gas.
[00:49:56] Right. Yeah, but for some folks it's still the convenience.
[00:49:59] True. But for the cost of it though.
[00:50:01] Even gas, you still have to tune them. Yeah. Even occasionally you have to tune them.
[00:50:06] Yeah.
[00:50:06] And you still have to go through the starting process and carry around an ignition battery. No, I get it. Yeah. I mean, it's not my thing, but I can totally understand why somebody would choose to spend $150 on a battery as opposed to $400 on a DLE 50 or whatever. Yeah. what I'm saying?
[00:50:22] I understand.
[00:50:23] Which by the way, I'm going to the show. I need to find a 50cc motor too. I just thought of that.
[00:50:27] For what?
[00:50:28] For that bike.
[00:50:29] Oh, for your… Was that chip hide or whatever it was? Yeah. Look at me go. I remember that one.
[00:50:32] Yeah. Yeah. Did that make it on my list? I don't know. I can't remember. I don't… Yeah.
[00:50:38] Double vision, I think.
[00:50:39] Yeah, it's on there. Yeah. So anyway. So yeah. 25 to 30cc motors. What else? At the show. Or a swap meet. Batteries.
[00:50:50] If there's actually some good batteries there, I might. I mean, I've always bought brand name batteries. I actually called Ron not too long ago by asking about Turnagee batteries. I've never dealt with them.
[00:51:01] I've had Turnagee before. That's Hobby King.
[00:51:04] We've had pretty good luck with them, Dave.
[00:51:05] Yeah. My Turnagee's been fabulous. Yeah. I've never had any problem with them.
[00:51:08] Yeah. I just…
[00:51:11] Reggie's big into name brands on things. Like, he will not go cheap on things that I will absolutely go cheap on. Like motors and stuff for the, like smaller electrics, he will always replace with eFlight or something like that where I have no problem using the Amazon brand or whatever's available.
[51:30] UNKNOWN: Definitely.[00:51:30] I try to get basically, like you said, Spectrum, eFlight, Rimfire.
[00:51:35] Well, I'm starting to rethink that too after our last Amazon experience.
[00:51:40] Well, that's servos though. Right. Like we've never done anything with servos before. Cheap servos. I've always used name brands on those.
[00:51:46] Well, the little nine gram, little for the little electric guys. Okay, fine. But anything more than that, I'm not, I don't think I'm going to take the chance again.
[00:51:54] Because usually the smaller planes we put those in are cheap. I don't want to say throw away, but okay to crash airplanes. So that's, that's why I'm okay with that in those. But we'll see.
[00:52:04] I don't know. How about you, Dave? Really not looking to buy much of anything. I am maxed out.
[00:52:12] Well, I mean, you never really know, right? Like when you go to a swap meet, you never really know until it jumps out at you like, I got to have whatever that is.
[00:52:21] Which is the last part of my list. Anything.
[00:52:23] Anything I can find. I can find.
[00:52:25] I picked up that little seaplane, that little flying boat seaplane. It was on a whim on the way out the door. It's like, well, that's kind of cool. I didn't see that first time through. Picked it up and it sat in my closet for two years.
[00:52:38] But sometimes those are the best ones because you don't know what you're getting. Oh, it flies great. And it's, it's exciting. You okay?
[00:52:44] Yeah, I'm good.
[00:52:45] Yeah, already. Starting to work off. All right.
[00:52:47] Well, anything else? Should we cut this off then? I don't want to. I think I'm good for the moment. You sure?
[00:52:53] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
[52:54] UNKNOWN: Okay.[00:52:54] What are some of the worst places you've flown? Ugh. There's so many. There's so many. Dave is cringing.
[00:53:03] Can I leave now?
[53:05] UNKNOWN: No.[00:53:05] I don't, I don't want to know.
[00:53:07] I don't want to know. Plausible deniability. Yeah.
[00:53:10] Oh, Walmarts. Truck stops. There's been a few job sites. Oh, rest areas along the interstate.
[00:53:18] Along the interstate?
[00:53:20] I mean, in the, in the rest area. It's right off the highway.
[00:53:24] Do we need to explain that Reggie's a truck driver? Hopefully our listeners know, but yeah.
[00:53:29] We've had them on before. And yeah, Reggie is a professional transportation specialist.
[53:35] UNKNOWN: Okay.[00:53:36] And probably a few get off ramps. Off ramps? Just pulled off to the side and then it killed some time. And I just literally off and on the ramp landing on the interstate.
[00:53:47] That's right off the highway. Cause it's off ramp. It's right off. That's like a big no, no.
[00:53:52] I am not proud of it, but I will own it. when the flying bug bit me, what 12, how long have we been flying? I've never did get that right.
[00:54:02] 2000. Go on.
[00:54:03] Go ahead.
[00:54:03] I was going to say 2012 was when I bought my first one.
[00:54:06] I was going to say it was shortly before 10 years then. Yeah. I was just a fanatic. I would fly anywhere and everywhere. I mean, it just did not matter to be honest with you. And of course, the more I get into it, the more I get to know people. And of course I got the grilling and whatnot about where I'm flying and.
[00:54:26] But it never stuck. Oh, it did.
[00:54:28] I mean, it, it slowed down. It stuck when he learned a lesson. But then he would combine the two, the lesson that he learned from wherever he crashed, plus the ribbing he got from all of us. Then the lesson would stick and maybe he would make the change. Yes. I'll go with that. I'll go with that.
[00:54:45] Hmm. I don't know about that.
[00:54:47] No?
[00:54:47] Well, he still doesn't. He doesn't fly at rest types anymore.
[00:54:51] No, definitely not. See?
[00:54:52] Oh, okay.
[00:54:53] He doesn't fly at rest types anymore. The churches that I'm actually allowed to fly at.
[00:54:59] Yeah.
[00:54:59] It's about the only places along with the flying field that I fly anymore.
[00:55:02] Okay. Well, that's good. I stopped taking them into trucks.
[00:55:04] I don't.
[00:55:04] Oh, I didn't know you didn't. Oh, you don't? Okay.
[00:55:06] Yeah. I thought you still took them with you. No. It was, A, getting them in and out was starting to destroy the planes. Oh, yeah. I can see that. And the wrist was just getting to be too much for me.
[00:55:18] Oh, good. Well, good. I'm happy to hear that. Me too. I'm glad to hear that. Way to go. Thank you.
[00:55:24] Thank you. Thank you. When we talk about the church, I'm familiar with the church, and it is a huge space. Like, their parking lot is humongous. So, when done correctly, I don't fault you for flying.
[00:55:38] We have our own little landing approach. We made sure we don't fly over the power lines, roads, buildings, anything. I mean, just nothing. We just keep a nice little stretch, and we enjoy it. Church two actually has a massive field that we fly out over. Church two? Well, church one is…
[00:56:03] That's the one over by the apartment building? Yes. Okay. What's the church two?
[00:56:07] Over where the big mountain is by Centennial Park. Oh. Okay. Actually, we could fly, if you remember right, we actually could fly the electrics over in that little triangle area for a while, but they put a bunch of trees up. But then they put the trees, yeah.
[00:56:19] I wonder why. Well, it wasn't because of that.
[00:56:22] It's park stuff. No, no. So, we just stayed at the church, made sure we had permission, and that's pretty much where we fly it now.
[00:56:29] Now, what about you, Ron?
[00:56:30] What about me what?
[00:56:31] Where's the places you've flown?
[00:56:33] Oh, I only fly, like, literally. What? What's the…
[00:56:36] I'm just waiting. Mm-hmm.
[00:56:38] I fly at the field and I fly at home. Is there someplace I don't remember?
[00:56:42] No, I guess that's pretty much it.
[00:56:44] No, I do remember somebody flying an airplane out here. Oh. Wow. Off of the…
[00:56:49] I remember that.
[00:56:50] Yeah. Off of the highway.
[00:56:52] Wasn't that a nitro plane at that?
[00:56:53] On the highway?
[00:56:55] It was gas powered. Oh, it was gas. Yeah. Oh, thank you for correcting me. I'm sorry.
[00:56:59] It was a gas powered biplane. It was. Wow. Somebody. Not me.
[00:57:03] Kind of a blind curve, even, if I remember right. Yeah. There's kind of a blind… You can't see around that curve down the way here, so… Well, I didn't fly it like you fly airplanes.
[00:57:11] I kept it close to me. It's true, but there's still a blind curve right there. So, yes. I flew it off of the road right out in front of your house. I'm not proud of that. But you did it well. And that's the only time I've done that.
[00:57:22] Really?
[00:57:22] Only time ever. That was actually encouraging for me. True, true story.
[00:57:26] Oh, that told you it was okay to do stuff like that?
[00:57:28] I thought that was awesome. That's what made me want to do it.
[00:57:30] Yeah. He went under the power lines. He went… I mean, like, threaded the needle through the tree line on both sides of the interstate… Not interstate, but the highway.
[00:57:37] These guys might be overestimating my skill, but yeah.
[00:57:40] Did you hit anything?
[00:57:41] No.
[00:57:42] You landed it perfectly. You did a good job.
[00:57:43] But you're making it sound like it's this narrow… Greased. Coming in.
[00:57:47] It's not all that wide. I don't think it's… What do you think? From my tree on one side to the trees across the street, 100 feet maybe?
[00:57:54] Maybe.
[00:57:55] Maybe.
[00:57:55] Maybe.
[00:57:56] Yeah. You weren't… We were watching for traffic? I remember that. Yeah, we had somebody stand out in the middle of the road. What's the matter? There was everything but a flag made out there.
[00:58:05] Who's the fool? The fool or the fool who follows him? Who's the fool?
[00:58:08] That's what I'm saying. The fool that… Anyway, that's… I've not done that, so I haven't followed. Well, you followed along. I was the following fool. I actually followed these for him. That was my birthday, though. I appreciate that. That made it very memorable. That would have been 2013, my birthday when everybody came out for that. Has it been that…
[00:58:24] I guess it was that long.
[00:58:25] Man, that was a long time ago. That actually is surprising, but yeah. You still have that plane, don't you, or no? I don't. I got rid of it, and it's Tommy's now.
[00:58:33] Oh, that's awesome. I gave Ron all of my electric stuff, and he gave me all of his nitro stuff and gas.
[00:58:39] Wow.
[00:58:39] Well, not all of it.
[00:58:40] Not all of it, but most of it. And I didn't get all your electric either, but that's okay. I mean, it wasn't like a straight up everything for everything.
[00:58:46] I'm not going to give you the planes that Dave gave me, no.
[00:58:48] Well, you have the Stryker, you have…
[00:58:51] Well, do you want the Stryker? I'd be happy to give it to you. I don't…
[00:58:54] I mean, I'm not going to say no to another one, but I'm just saying, like, I still have the fun one that's nitro, so I didn't give you all my nitro. Oh, well, true. That's true. And you still have some electric ones. That's true. That's all I was saying. Don't get all defensive.
[00:59:05] Well, I have… Yeah, anyway. So that's the only time I've ever done that. Like, I've never flown off of a road before. Yeah.
[00:59:11] Or since. Yeah, that's fine.
[00:59:13] So… I can't say that. Don't do that. If you're listening at home, don't do that. There. Does that make it better? I don't know.
[00:59:21] Probably not. I had fun, so…
[00:59:22] What? That was so long ago, and lessons have been learned since then, and still are being learned,
[59:28] UNKNOWN: so…[00:59:29] Definitely could say things have gotten a lot better, more responsible. Dave, you're being awfully quiet over there.
[00:59:36] I flew off of Chatham Road.
[00:59:38] Oh, my gosh.
[00:59:39] Chatham Road.
[00:59:39] That's an actual, like, main road.
[00:59:42] Wait a minute, Chatham. Early 90s. what? Now, it's not as bad as it sounds. I'm all ears, Dave. They took and restructured it, and Chatham Road was cut off. Oh, yeah. Do you guys know where that would make the curve to go to Menards now? Mm-hmm. Friends of ours were renting a house that was back there, and their driveway literally became Chatham Road. Chatham Road, yeah. So, I flew off their driveway, which previously had been Chatham Road.
[01:00:11] That's kind of a technicality, but…
[01:00:13] That is a technicality, but… It was in the country at that point. It's on the very south end of Chatham Road.
[01:00:17] You got us. You got us. And that's the worst place you've flown us. Yeah, that's the worst place I've ever flown. I'd say that's… I mean, that's… See, Dave, you've actually brought back memories for me now, to be honest with you.
[01:00:28] -oh. where you go over the overpass to go toward Knights Action Park off of MacArthur Boulevard, the new…
[01:00:34] Yeah, yeah.
[01:00:35] That curve right there. I've flown right there off that curve before. That was with nitro planes.
[01:00:40] Oh, my God.
[01:00:42] … I've flown off of Menards parking lot.
[01:00:44] Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Off the frontage road? Yeah.
[01:00:48] Okay. Just like, you come over the overpass… Oh, I know exactly what you're talking about. And that curve there, it comes right back around.
[01:00:52] The one that's 15 feet away from the interstate?
[01:00:55] Pretty much, yeah. Yeah, the AMA coverage for Reggie has now just been negated.
[01:01:00] Oh, God. But he doesn't do that anymore. No.
[01:01:03] No, this was all in the beginning.
[01:01:05] Yeah, this was all good four or five months ago.
[01:01:09] I would go more like nine, ten years ago, but…
[01:01:13] No, that's okay.
[01:01:13] I've had two nitro planes off of that. I was flying off of Menards' parking lot, the new Menards. Of course, that was in the early hours before too much traffic got in there.
[01:01:27] So the area that Reggie is talking about is kind of the west side of Springfield, and it's always busy. Like, there's stuff going on. This was the question on where the worst places you've been flown, correct?
[01:01:39] That's okay. I'm telling you. He's telling us. We're having honest. I mean, I'm being honest here. We're having truth time.
[01:01:44] Truth time.
[01:01:46] You said Chatham Road when Jason had his old shop over there on Chatham Road with the green sign. I've flown right there off of Chatham Road. I've flown over on the field beside the… Oh, wow.
[01:01:58] That used to be an airport?
[01:02:00] Yes, I did.
[01:02:00] I actually had the map for that.
[01:02:02] So I don't consider that a bad place to fly. I've flown there before.
[01:02:05] That's what Charles Lindberg flew out of.
[01:02:07] Yeah.
[01:02:08] Yeah.
[01:02:09] And when it used to be Hobby Mart on Dirksen Parkway.
[01:02:13] Yeah.
[01:02:14] I've flown right there off of Dirksen Parkway.
[01:02:15] Off Dirksen Parkway?
[01:02:16] Literally just two steps off the highway and flew across the field, back and forth.
[01:02:20] Oh.
[01:02:22] The place I fly that scares me more than anything, and it's a legal field, is in Mount Vernon. Oh, yeah. They fly at that Ina College or Ena College, whatever they want to call it. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Literally across the highway from big muddy federal prison. A prison.
[01:02:37] Yeah. Federal… Wow.
[01:02:38] That would be bad.
[01:02:39] That if they wanted to, the prison guards could take pot shots at our airplanes. Yeah.
[01:02:44] That place scares me more than anything. That's where… Because you got the highway… And the prison.
[01:02:48] And the prison. Yeah. I mean, like, you can see it. Have you not been to that one, Reggie?
[01:02:52] No. Oh, it's a good time. It's… Yeah, you'll have to, like, if we get to go again, if they have it again, thanks to COVID, but… Yeah, it's been several years since… It's a warbird. Well, it's kind of a warbird flying, but you can pretty much fly whatever you bring. I took the P-40 there, and you had… You obviously had the World War I stuff, but I thought you had something else there, too.
[01:03:11] I had my P-40 there. P-40. I had my F-15 jet there. I ended up crashing it. That was the last time I flew there, is I crashed it.
[01:03:21] Is that the one I tried to hand launch and it crashed?
[01:03:23] No, this is my big 90-millimeter free wing. Oh, yeah. I had an elevator servo or a stabilator servo go bad. Ouch. Yeah, it needs both of them to fly.
[01:03:35] So which airplane and where did it happen was the one that I flew into the guy's butt?
[01:03:42] That's a story I've heard of. I haven't heard of that one, either. That was the F-14.
[01:03:48] Wow. I knew it.
[01:03:48] And it was the Park Flyer, and it was a… We were up north somewhere, and I can't… Was it Peoria? It was one of the northern fly-ins, but…
[01:03:58] Just north of Peoria by Chillicothe or something like that. Chillicothe. I think it was up by Chillicothe.
[01:04:04] Big guy. What happened? Big guy.
[01:04:07] What happened to that?
[01:04:08] So there was no missing.
[01:04:09] So Dave let me fly his F-14, and I believe I had flown it once before.
[01:04:15] Yeah. It's real… It's a pusher foamy.
[01:04:17] It's a super easy plane to fly, and I think I… Either I was up too long with it, and I didn't have enough power to go around. I think that was a… I think is what happened. And instead of… And no rudders, and there was a crosswind. Right. Exactly. So it's an airplane that has no rudders, and there was a crosswind. So it drifted off the runway, into the pits, and bounced off of a guy's butt.
[01:04:42] Nice. Bounce. That's exactly what happened. He was so big, he probably didn't notice it.
[01:04:47] And the guy kind of turned around, looked at it, and kind of shrugged his shoulders like, eh, whatever. Oh, that's funny. But it was like full stall. I mean, it was just… It had to be going, what, five mile an hour maybe? If that. I mean, it comes into a crawl. It just went… Probably saved the plane that way. I'm not proud of it, but I thought it was pretty funny.
[01:05:09] That is hilarious.
[01:05:11] And I don't think I've flown one of Dave's planes since. The Excalibur, but… Oh yeah, I crashed that one too. Yeah.
[01:05:19] All the stories are coming out now, Mr. I don't crash. I don't crash my plane.
[01:05:24] To be fair to Tommy, I previously crashed the Excalibur, and the wing may or may not have been totally straight. Good times. So what'd you do on that one?
[01:05:36] I don't remember. It went in the corn. It just went down out in the corn. Yeah. I think…
[01:05:41] It developed a very vicious tip stall, and that's why I kind of believe the wing may have not been totally straight. Yeah.
[01:05:49] And it was, yeah, and I, again, I think it's a battery powered soar.
[01:05:54] Would you call it a soar? They call it a warm liner. I mean, it's a brutal fast airplane with the throttles on, but then you chop the throttle and it's a glider. Yeah.
[01:06:03] It actually flies nice. It did. When it doesn't… If you don't get it too slow. But yeah, I let it get too far away, and I think the battery again, I think I had probably flown a little too long and not enough power to go around. That brings up another story. In the corn it went.
[01:06:18] I'm listening. In Texas, at a truck stop. The Wildcat, to be honest.
[01:06:26] That poor plane.
[01:06:27] I flew it too far away. No. It happens. And flew it too long. I had a light wind, and I could tell the battery was dying, but it was out over the interstate. I could barely see it. Oh, no. And… Oh, I remember this story. Yeah. It was coming in, and I ended up landing it. I mean, I was kind of trying to run to it, make sure I could maybe get close to try to catch it or something, and then landing it in a parking lot with people parking.
[01:06:59] It actually slid right down the center of the parking lot. I quit after that.
[01:07:05] For the day.
[01:07:06] For the day, yes. I was going to say, obviously not. For the day, but that one actually had me scared, because it was out over on the other side of the interstate, trying to make it back, and it was slowly coming down.
[01:07:17] Wouldn't all of them have you scared?
[01:07:20] No, not normally. Oh. That one actually had me scared, because I didn't know what was going to happen. But it made it clear back to the truck stop. Wow. Under hardly any power, and it literally belly landed across the parking lot amongst all the cars that were over there. And managed to miss every single one. I missed every single one. That was a nice sign of relief. Yeah.
[01:07:42] All right. Well, we could talk about crashing all night long, but this is getting to be a pretty long episode.
[01:07:46] Yeah. I'm ready to call it quits. Everybody else good?
[01:07:49] We're good.
[01:07:50] All right. Well, thank you.
[01:07:51] Thanks for joining us. It's always a good time to have guests on, especially when we can have two at once. That was awesome.
[01:07:56] That's what I was going to say. Thanks, both of you for coming. And until next time, I'm Ron.
[01:08:00] I'm Tom.
[01:08:00] I'm Reggie. Dave. We'll see you later.
[01:08:03] All right. Good night.

[01:08:36] Get a gentle lady or something along that line with a power pod on it with a Coxill 49. Okay. All right. And so we know, from our experience, the Coxill 49s, they're touristy difficult to get started and if you get them to run, they don't run very long, blah, blah, blah. Well, he got it going. Tossed his glider. And of course it dies as soon as he lets go. Yeah. Forgets to turn the receiver on.
[01:08:58] Oh, wow.
[01:09:00] Best motor run ever. Last we saw it was out over Riverton.
[1:09:06] UNKNOWN: Oh my God.[01:09:07] And still going. Never have found it. It's in somebody's garage somewhere. The airplane was perfectly trimmed. Best motor run ever.
[01:09:19] It doesn't have very much fuel.
[01:09:21] It's one ounce.
[01:09:22] Well, I mean, a Cox, if you can get it to run on one ounce of fuel, it'll go five, ten minutes. Ten minutes easy. Yeah. And then it was a glider. And of course, the problem was you could never get them to run that good.
[01:09:34] Yeah, they'd run for two, three minutes. Maybe. Maybe. Best run ever. That's funny.
[01:09:41] Of course it was.
[01:09:42] I mean, why wouldn't it?
[01:09:43] And of course the airplane was perfectly trimmed.
[01:09:44] Oh, yeah. That's funny.
[01:09:46] I forgot while I was flying the escapade over there. I forgot to turn the receiver on.
[01:09:51] I forgot to turn the receiver on. That's good about the bridge.
[01:09:52] Yeah, while I was working at Riverton, I was flying the escapade over off that road there.
[01:09:57] Oh, on the other side?
[01:09:59] Yeah. That's overpass road. Overpass road. I was flying off that road. Right down the street from where the old flying field was.
[01:10:05] That's where they're putting the new…
[01:10:07] You were flying it off the bridge? I was flying it off the road in front of the bridge. By XPO and all that. That's the one that the servo and the elevator went bad. I was coming back down and I ended up burying it across the cornfield. That actually looked like an actual plane crash. There was s*** flying up everywhere. That was the best. It was a plane crash.
[01:10:26] It was, but it looked more real than anything.
[01:10:29] Crash, what I mean? Yeah. Same airplane, same guy. Started it, threw it, came right back at him. Motor is running backwards.
[01:10:36] Oh, that'd be cool.
[01:10:39] And maybe Cox's would do that too. They'll run as well backwards as they'll run for their zero time.
[01:10:44] God, I hate those things.
[01:10:46] How do you get away from it? Just dive?
[01:10:48] Spring starter will usually get them going the right direction, but…
[01:10:51] No, no. How did he get away from us? Oh, I'm sorry.
[01:10:53] Yeah, you just duck, duck. They don't fly real well in reverse. They usually…
[01:11:00] I kind of thought when he threw it, it would have just…
[01:11:02] Yeah, it went out about 10 or 15 foot. Slowed way down and… Started coming back at him.
[01:11:12] I would shit my pants if that happened to me, if an airplane started coming right back at me. Because that's scary. Like if you're in the pit and somebody doesn't have control of it and you see it coming at you like… Because you don't know which way to go. You don't know which way the airplane's going. I just usually freeze in terror. That's funny.
[01:11:31] It was probably a good thing it flew away. That was fun.
[01:11:37] It was a good time. Yeah. It was a bad thing.
