[00:00:00] Clearing up the throat hello everyone welcome to the rc plane lab podcast i am ron i'm tom and i'm dave we haven't done this for a while it's been it's been a bit yeah three weeks right at a month yeah so our last episode was with hank that was a lot of fun to do that was a lot of fun but we haven't sat down to record since he has a really good voice i really like to listen to him
[00:00:36] Talk is that weird that's kind of weird dude i mean i just like listening to him talk i don't know
[00:00:40] Yeah he's such a fun guy i i wouldn't say it but i'm not going to disagree so what's up
[00:00:49] I'm just living the dream freezing it is cold yeah but by the way one it was according
[00:00:56] To my car this morning it was one degree outside but monday is supposed to be 52 or 53 yeah
[00:01:02] I at one point saw 57 but it seems to have backed down a little bit boy i'm ready that would be good jet running weather i just want to put the window down on my truck it's been frozen for
[00:01:12] Two weeks oh yeah i can't do that right now because the window motor is broken apparently that's common but anyway so i was looking i did not realize five years we have been doing this holy smoke five has it been five years march 3rd will be five years so that will be between this release and the next one wow well over 200 000 downloads imagine that too that's half a decade
[00:01:45] Okay wow that really makes it sounds really long but i don't think in that time we have missed with that or with the exception of when we planned on taking off i don't think we've missed a release
[00:01:56] We did have the one that went sideways on us and we just threw it away the tom's basement experiment
[00:02:02] Yeah oh yeah you guys sucked on that one didn't you yeah yeah we tried we tried but it but there actually was a an episode that went out live right was that the that was the one we did live wasn't it
[00:02:14] I think no there was it was around that time but no it was recorded one and it just went
[00:02:20] Awfully wrong in tom's basement i thought that was the live one i thought that was live one too
[00:02:26] Which one which one are you thinking of i don't know he had covet or something and yeah he was having me ron i did yes that was the live one i thought yeah i thought maybe it was maybe it was a second live one because we did pull off one live one i know that no we did i don't think we did
[00:02:43] Gosh we can five years later we don't yeah we don't need to go too much into that but yeah sans one perhaps we have done yeah that's stuck to our guns on right street that's that's pretty good quite a streak this is episode 177 in five years 77 oddly enough we are still doing it
[00:03:05] And it's still exciting it's still fun yeah yeah it's still like i'm i have not reached the point on the drive out here where i'm like man i wish i didn't have to do this tonight yeah i have not reached that point yet after five years that's impressive that is so that tells me that our spacing is just right yeah i think the two week is the sweet spot i do too what i mean one
[00:03:29] Week was fine we had a whole bunch of stuff to cover and try and get out quick but that got a little
[00:03:34] Stressful it was overwhelming yeah yeah stressful was it is a good word for it i mean on week and off
[00:03:39] Week is nice because you don't want to let the listeners down well not editing helps a lot so yeah i think we've we've hit our stride in how we're doing things so too and making things work so and it's still fun so yeah and there's still new stuff and i'm assuming i have exciting stuff to talk about today we're going to talk about airplanes we're going to talk about lots of airplanes that are being released yes we've got what four one two three one i'm looking at three four airplanes that we're going to talk about that were released a new stand came out from extreme flight i got a boat
[00:04:15] We're going to talk about that i think that i think that looks really cool it does it looks like luggage
[00:04:20] That escaped from a zoo or something luggage that escaped from the zoo i don't i don't know why you
[00:04:26] Would keep luggage in a zoo i'm not sure what that yeah means that kind of hurts i'm sorry it looks
[00:04:32] Like more like a car top topper oh i could see that oh like a tule yeah it's not a tule
[00:04:39] B sorry is that what you mean yeah the car top that goes all the part yeah i could see cargo from
[00:04:45] The side yeah i could see that yep but but it's still cool did you polish it no i i cleaned it we'll
[00:04:51] Talk about we can talk about it give that thing a wax job it looks really good i did actually clean it up and i took the sticker off the front and i cleaned it up and stuff but we'll like i said we'll talk about we can talk about that later let's see there's also a really good review i don't model aviation for an f22 64 millimeter you all should check it out i would have to say whoever wrote that did i mean a great job he's talking about himself dave me yeah i'm trying to come up
[00:05:24] With something here to not piss him off too bad but but it's just very well written i don't think i've has that their standards are slipping i don't know if i have that issue yet it's digitally
[00:05:35] Released so far so the new one has not actually mailed him gotcha so yeah you should check that out let's see there was also we will talk about later the electro streak came out i'm excited about that but i think like i don't know if maybe their release of that has has spawned more searches for the electro streak but i've had multiple people email me asking about doing shortcuts again
[00:06:06] So i might rip off a few i'm yeah i might cut a few more if anybody wants some let me know send me an email ron at rcplanelab.com and i'll try and figure out if we can it's feasible yeah they're super easy to build yeah they are it's a good halfway building airplane that i can tell because i've
[00:06:30] Only made it through half of it well dave built his and i built mine and others on discord have
[00:06:35] Completed theirs but like i said we'll probably be doing another run of that and they've all
[00:06:41] Flown great they fly awesome yeah the original ones fly awesome and i can only imagine the new one with extremely varied power plants in all of them yeah we're all over the place yeah and they all about same top speed yeah it seems like some climb better than others unlimited vertical yeah so that's
[00:07:01] That if anybody else is interested let me know i'll probably i'll think about doing it here in the next
[00:07:05] Couple months we i'm pretty sure because i was the keeper of the last kit for a while and that one that's gone it's gone yeah i believe i believe we gave that to someone was it dayton no no we had somebody
[00:07:23] Email me wanting one ah so i had to okay i sent it out to that but there are none in stock right now but you can potentially yeah so and that's that's the other thing dave asked me about printing some plans on my big printer i did buy ink heads oh cool let me know what i owe you no i mean i don't i'm not worried about that but they're expensive and that sucked that thing is sat for like a year year and a half and not been used because of that so we'll get back and get back to printing things so do those go bad from non-use or they just sitting apparently i mean i i think it everything that's a weird printer
[00:08:00] Like i said it's it's old but everything on there is like replaceable so you can pretty much replace i mean i'm trying to think when i got what i had to do i had to replace the drive belt i had to replace the ink heads already i had to buy new ink and the ink is in huge containers there's six of them what else i had to change something else i don't know what it was but like i said everything in there even the the ink tubes whatever you want to call it that runs back and forth is it's all replaceable so so it's like a commercial unit designed to be repaired is a commercial unit so it was one that
[00:08:34] But unfortunately the heads are kind of spendy oh yeah and so is the ink if you buy actual hp ink i found some cheaper ones that worked well with the ink so we'll see but anyway yes dave here shortly thank you getting those hopefully let me know what you need and we can get it printed for you cool don't forget everybody we have new listener survey out i don't think we've talked about that much before yeah four before excuse me the fourth one we've done so go fill it out it
[00:09:07] Helps us out and all that fun stuff we also got an email from somebody about our spreadsheets i don't
[00:09:13] Know if you guys saw that yeah i forgot to respond to it and you took care of it for me well i i'd sent
[00:09:18] A cop well because i had my phone on me when i got it and i usually keep like the actual
[00:09:25] Spreadsheets that i can deal with like on my computer because it's easier to work with stuff obviously you're just able to export them real quick but i had sent a version out last year to somebody else that had asked for it so i just sent him that one but i will read the email and then we can discuss quickly he said thanks for the shows they make me smile and laugh i'm happy to be one of your seven listeners thanks for that i'm sorry i can't find it on your website where is your spreadsheet of planes i need to get organized on what i have what i need to buy to finish and what i need to bring to the field i'd also like to find the what day i flew and how often spreadsheet
[00:09:59] Thank you i appreciate all you do on and off the air i looked under links but i didn't see it so i don't keep track of days i flew we all have different spreadsheets i do we don't even have like a common right base between us we all have made we have three different appearing spreadsheets different grossly different yeah and they're keeping track of different things keeping track of what's important
[00:10:23] To each one of us exactly so like dave keeps track of what day day plane and how many times and then if
[00:10:31] Something significant happened okay similar mine's fairly similar to that for this year i was tinkering with adding another column so i would have the date that it was last flown and then another column i would compile that every date that i flew it for the year like so i would be able to know oh i flew it on january 3rd march 14th and again i flew it in august whatever yeah i haven't done that but i was thinking about adding that and then i have a notes section for each plane that i can jot down anything i need to remember before i fly it again like hey the
[00:11:06] Add some down trim or whatever yeah but yeah similar to and then obviously it doesn't translate well into google sheets or whatever the thing is i use excel so in the in the description for the airplane i actually color code that also so i can quickly at a glance just yeah find the
[00:11:28] Airplane i'm looking for and it's funny because that annoys me i i don't know why and that's why everybody has their own i mean i'm sure there's things i have on mine that i like that you don't like so and that's okay i haven't looked at yours so no if it bugs me it doesn't bug me enough to worry about right but anyway so that's that's the spreadsheet thing like if we all have different ones that are suited to fit what i mean i i would be happy to to post mine up on our
[00:11:56] Website somewhere if somebody wants to copy and paste i'm sure dave probably would too yeah i mean
[00:12:02] There's nothing there's really nothing special about mine yeah there's five minutes to put it
[00:12:05] Together there's no information on mine that i would care if anybody saw so yeah same with mine yeah hit us up and i'll put it on there if if the interest demand is out there okay cool so that's
[00:12:17] That right on the next thing i want to talk about i'm actually excited about and i haven't told either of you guys this yet so this is new whoops new to everybody i have bought something that i will not have yet i will be getting it in march but i had to order this have it made especially for me you want to take a guess i have pictures i'm guessing it's a custom
[00:12:45] Printed jet but no no no oh man i want to say a trailer and you are correct there it is how
[00:12:55] Pretty is that nice that is my trailer what's in black and white i like the black and white i don't know
[00:13:01] Why so eight by 11 losses coming i know i could tell by how excited you were i know by the look
[00:13:08] On your face oh i like that so i ended up going tandem axle huh yeah so i ended up going with a 6×14
[00:13:16] Tandem axle because it has brakes and if i ever decide to haul something heavier in it i can pull something heavier blackout package so it looks nice with the black as opposed to the i think so there'll be a thousand degrees in there in august no the the top is is white it's got a white top yeah 800 degrees in august i like the nose two-tone color aluminum yeah it has the v-nose on it has the brakes obviously that's the brake controller and stuff on it is that a carbon fiber stripe no that's aluminum i think it yeah what's it called the diamond plate or tread okay so it does
[00:13:51] Have pattern to it i'm just not seeing reflection that's cool and that's the same on the the front rock guard the sides have it going up and then the blacked out wheels blacked out wheels and then the wheel wells are also done in the diamond plate it's very sharp i like it like said i had to order that i mean they made it specifically obviously after i bought it that's built just for me like just for you so the reason this all happened and the timing that it happened yeah how does crystal feel
[00:14:22] About this she's actually the one that told me to do it and she was actually the one that told me because i was going back and forth after we talked about it and i said i don't know if i want the single axle or tandem axle and she gave me the response pretty much that i have given to her on other things too that i know what you're gonna get what you want because in two years you're not going to miss the money but if it's not what you want you're going to look at it every time and go i wish
[00:14:48] I would have done that differently yeah the nice thing about a tandem is if you blow a wheel you can
[00:14:52] Three-legged that was my other thought on it the other thing is that's easier to climb into you don't have to worry about a tipping as much if it's not hooked up to a a car what are you going to haul it with the expedition will pull that okay cool yeah put air conditioning in it stop i have thought about that i don't want to hear it there is a lot that's going to have to be done so before this we talked about toledo this will not be done for toledo so if we can still use daniel's trailer for that
[00:15:24] That will be fine but it will be done for jonal yeah i mean getting the trailer is the expensive
[00:15:31] Part but the other expensive part is going to be outfitting it's not actually is i mean like track
[00:15:35] System is not expensive no i'm saying it's it's closer to being the expensive part on the inside than i expected okay yeah so i've ordered the e-track for it i've ordered d-rings for the floor i've ordered the two by four holder things that daniel has for his for the brackets the bracket things and i don't know what else i need huh carpet in the carpet for the i haven't done that yet obviously but i will i've got two by fours already well that's very sharp i'm excited for you so i'm not sure what to do flooring walls ceiling i know i want to put some foam in the ceiling and
[00:16:10] Stuff to have just a little bit of of r value for when it sits in the sunlight and cover that up but i was also thinking well actually one of the guys i work with i was talking to him about it and his suggestion for the floor was to paint it up like a runway i don't know if that's cool or if that's dumb i have not decided yet hmm i know right that's going to require some thought because you have to do it right or else it's going to look dumb my other option is black and white checker
[00:16:43] Yeah that's everybody does classic i know but everything i mean it's gonna be black i could see a runway being kind of cool if it's done right if it's done right that's the problem it's got to be
[00:16:55] Done right right so i don't know i have time well congratulations thank you so what i was saying before is the reason this all happened when it happened my sister and her husband are going on vacation to florida and they will be driving i know where this is going right they're they're going to be driving a little bit closer to there but farther away than i thought when we were first talking about it because we're obviously talking about trailers like we're going down there if you want we can just stop by and pick one up i'm like oh that would save so much on shipping and all that
[00:17:30] Because it's like two grand to have them delivered really like to get them from there up here yeah i mean it's georgia ridiculous yeah yeah it's ridiculous how expensive that is and so i thought about and like said talked to crystal and stuff and decided yeah let's go ahead and do it so i was talking to my brother-in-law and stuff and told him i had it ordered and he's like okay cool and then he looked it up it adds four hours to their trip oh going to florida and so he's going to pick it up on their way to florida through george obviously go down to florida they're going to spend a week there
[00:18:03] All around around everywhere they go and then come back because that's closer for them
[00:18:09] Like they're so it's closer on the way down than on the way yeah because they're going
[00:18:13] Sightseeing in different parts of the state or well it's nice of them to offer to do that and
[00:18:19] Yeah it does save you a considerable amount of money and it's i mean it will help him too because
[00:18:23] He can use it obviously when he needs to haul something or something like that but yeah
[00:18:27] So yeah cool that was that was the whole impetus behind the timing of it so i'm glad everything worked out okay so if anybody has ideas on what i need for a trailer let me know because yeah hit us up i don't know one thing i was thinking about doing though so before we go to joan all i will be getting the lithium batteries for the golf cart so i was thinking about putting a couple of those six volts in the trailer for powering lights powering other things powering a battery charger for charging rc batteries when we're at our local field i think that would be
[00:19:02] Handy that would be very handy so there's a lot of things to think about and figure out but cool only thing i didn't do and i'm not sure if i'm going to regret this or not i didn't do the extended height they had an extra six inch height option and i will tell you exactly why i didn't it would not fit in my shop i have nine foot doors on the shop and it wouldn't fit in there you're not that tall
[00:19:25] It doesn't you're you're not going to miss that extra height and the convenience of being shorter
[00:19:29] Is going to come i think that's that's kind of what i was leaning towards and i think that's i i think i'm going to be happy with the decision i made because i want it to be stored inside all the time if possible yeah i would yeah we're not being used i mean there's no reason not to have it back into the shop so yeah we have to make some room oh there's room out there i mean i could pull it in right now you haven't been out there for a while it's not as bad as it used to be oh okay it's not good but it's not as bad as you're good well congratulations i'm excited for you thank you
[00:20:00] I can't wait to for you to have it i know we're going to have a good trip and we fit everything we needed in the six by 12. we did but i figured a couple extra feet would be nice yeah what yeah and
[00:20:12] Being able to shift the golf cart four or have to get the balance just right to make it pull real nice yeah that's going to be nice well that's the other thing plus it being a tandem axle you can
[00:20:20] Right you don't have to worry as much about that with tandem axle so cool beans and it will haul good deal a lot more because the i mean like weight wise yeah because with with the ones i was looking at you could only put i think it was like 1200 pounds in it with a single axle the way they were built longer ones that were a little bit heavier with the extra couple feet right so this one i think
[00:20:46] Will haul 4500 pounds now so so next up will be an f-250 diesel or duramax or something no i'm still
[00:20:54] Hoping beyond hope the cyber truck comes down in price but i don't think it is oh so you could just brick it in your driveway is that anyway i'll take that out later haters gonna hate if it was the price they said it was going to be when they originally released it we would have one now oh i bet you'll be
[00:21:10] Able to find one pretty inexpensive real soon i don't know they seem like they're pretty they're all broken they're not all bro not all broken i'm not a i'm not an electric car fan either day but i mean oh i don't mind the electric car part it's just i don't want to drive a garbage can i don't
[00:21:26] Like raccoons get confused this is when i test my self-control and i'm doing fine so any rats yeah next up so that's that having that trailer is going to be really really handy yeah so i think you guys want to talk about new releases now yeah sure we got plenty of them yeah there's we do quite a few here i will start okay go e-flight electro streak yeah i am super excited for this one not only because we did the electro streak build and by we i mean others
[00:22:04] No i'm kidding mine's halfway done so i don't remember when they announced this but it's been since we haven't recorded for so long the pre-order that i ordered mine actually delivered today yeah so it is now sitting right over there built awesome put together because it took three screws and it was really easy yeah it was so let's go first thoughts tommy what do you think i like it it's
[00:22:28] Nicely done something you pointed out as we were fondling it whenever the foam is really fondling the foam yeah yeah a lot of carbon reinforcement in the wing and stab and the fuselage too there's some carbon in there it looked like yeah but the foam is like really really it's it's dense yeah
[00:22:47] Like when you you you can it's got some substance to it tight and it doesn't like give like one pound
[00:22:55] Or two pounds like with your fingers i can imagine it would be difficult to put a dent in it it's not it's not the traditional softer foam that we're used to so yeah no i like the looks of it i like the red black and white it's going to show up good in the air it looks fast sitting still but i'm kind of with dave i wish they had called it something else it's really yeah i mean
[00:23:18] It's got some electro streak cues to it but it doesn't it's kind of it's not an electro streak
[00:23:23] Of an electro streak but like so the electro streak way back in the day you could get it in two versions right there was the built-up version and there was the that did a fiberglass version this one looks closer obviously to the fiberglass version because the fiberglass version wasn't a box fuselage it was actually round but the wing is the wing is let's call it electric streak inspired how about a concendo streak it does look very much like to me it's very reminiscent of the concendo when i first
[00:23:52] Saw it i thought it was the updated like v2 yeah yeah but aside from the name sharp looking i really
[00:24:02] Like it i can't wait i can't wait to see it fly like little shark fins on the other on area the little fences yeah it's cool looking airplane yeah i'm looking forward to seeing it go 120 mile an hour
[00:24:11] Me too it needs a whistle ish well maybe it might whistle who never know well not not the one i heard but it's fast yeah so the electro streak 1.1 meter one of the most convenient best handling and fastest prop driven e-flight aircraft yet top speeds of 120 to 130 on 4s or 100 mile per hour on 3s to deliver an unmatched fast flying experience now i did see they had a bulletin that came out and i don't remember exactly what it said i should have printed that one apparently it's not quite as
[00:24:42] Fast as they had in their production version or in their pre-production pre-production version they said the the ones they're getting in are a little bit slower but you can get higher speeds with a different prop combo i think they said like 110 to 120 on a 4s which is still pretty good and you can out of a dive still hit like 130 but what they were talking about before was literally straight yeah level flight yeah so 3s or 4s 1800 to 2200 milliamp hour battery and is that everything i think that's
[00:25:19] About it comes with metal gear servos and like i said actually having seen it and touched it and
[00:25:26] Played with it and fondled it i like it yeah dave your thoughts overall pretty good like i said the
[00:25:31] Name could go out the window but the design and everything else i really like it looks like it's
[00:25:36] Really well done see i guess i guess i'm not married to the old style electro streak to where it bothers me as much because it's i mean it's a it's a cool looking almost shark type tail fast
[00:25:51] Looking airplane yeah it's a nice looking airplane yeah yeah yep looks well done i think the name doesn't bother me as much as you guys i am still concerned about the two extensions that we can't
[00:26:00] Figure out what they're used for but yeah it came with two extensions in the package and i didn't see
[00:26:04] Anything in the like i read the destructions and i didn't see it i didn't see anything either so
[00:26:08] I don't know what that is for i mean maybe it was for plugging in a bind plug but you really don't need one because the yeah but then why it has the button two of them i i don't know maybe they want to make it longer i'll throw in my stash with all the other ones who knows there you go but yeah but
[00:26:24] Yeah exciting yeah it looks like it's well done like dave said the decals or stickers or whatever you want to call them are none of them are peeling up and they're very smooth i'm a little concerned it might fade in the sun but well that's the same if the if the decals are the same as the stuff that's on my like the turbo timber evolution those haven't faded and it's been in the sun quite a bit so it might be okay but that's my only concern about it yeah looks good we'll see i like it can't wait to see
[00:26:51] It fly me neither i have to just flying soon to get in there february flights i know it's the weather
[00:26:57] Has been terrible the 20th already i know okay that's all i have dave has the other ones talk
[00:27:05] About extremes yeah no kidding you can't get much more yeah i got the two extreme aircraft here from one end of the spectrum to the other so i guess i'll start on the slow slow side slow side there you go so it looks like e-flight is releasing an se-5a world war ii fighter that also is how long
[00:27:26] It's been since we've recorded because neither one of these had been announced the last time we sat
[00:27:30] Down yeah just saying it's green it's got two wings no i'm kidding it's very nicely done world war one airplane from what i see i haven't actually seen one in real life but i've seen a lot of videos on it it looks like it's they've made world war one as convenient as they possibly can yeah you can hover it convenient not what i'm saying you can hover it too you can hover it too yes they the flying wires are elastic with hooks so those come off real easy oh that's cool the
[00:28:03] Cabane struts are all apparently some sort of clip lock system okay and i i haven't been able to see exactly how they're doing it but looks like they just snap together so it makes it easy to take it apart if you need to it's small because it's only 900 millimeters yeah so it's supposed to
[00:28:19] Fit in the trunk of a normal size sedan was that about 34 ish inches something like that that's 1.1
[00:28:26] So take away 0.2 yeah it's it's right at 36 inches okay but i mean seriously who drives a sedan and is in this hobby right true well that's a good point but anyway it's supposed to put in there all assembled all good to fly there's no gyro or anything in it but it does have the as3x so that is the gyro that is the gyro yes yeah but for additional keeping it straight on the takeoff it looks like it wobbles around a little bit if you apply the power too fast so it looks like it might
[00:28:57] Be a little slow coming up with that but other than that it looks great all the flying videos i've seen it's a beautiful flying aircraft and most of the reviewers are saying the three cell is really the recommended setup for it oh really because it is a world war one airplane four cell it's just kind of on the stupid side yeah it's not supposed to hover so but it can can the lighter weight with the three cell seems to be where everybody's happier with it unless you want to hover a se5a then go for the force i'll set up more power to you very nicely done yeah can't really say
[00:29:28] Much more about it if you're into that type of airplane it's yeah the detail looks pretty good for
[00:29:32] The doer the guy's got a scarf and i've had seen several people have lost the scarf so i want to put a drop of glue on that how much how much are they and we are looking at 279.99 as a i believe that is the plug and play no that's that's the bind and fly yes which i forgot to say on the
[00:29:49] I can't read i threw the paper away is it i didn't say the price on the electro streak is that 249.99 yes 249.99 find and fly you think i'd remember because i well just paid that just paid that well
[00:30:01] Did you though did you use your points instead no no straight up nice 249 plus tax
[00:30:08] So anyway yeah upper and lower ailerons good looking airplane if i was more of a fan of se5 i would definitely be looking at one of these and then you would paint it gray it would have to be repainted because because i look like everybody else yeah i'm just not a fan of the se5 so but it's a it's a good sharp looking airplane they did a really nice job on it looks like
[00:30:32] I can appreciate it for somebody else that likes it but i do not want to own one there you go
[00:30:37] Yeah yeah now if we can get them into a triplane or a d7 yeah you never know this might be the start of something yeah like if these sell well who knows maybe they will apparently they've had an se5 before in the park zone park zone but this is apparently is a completely brand new mold it's bigger it's got a lot of really detailed molds in it so it's a very nice
[00:31:02] Looking airplane yep and i'll update electronics also yeah which is nice cool so that is that tom
[00:31:10] You want to do yours real quick and then we can jump into okay we'll go from the slowest of the
[00:31:16] Bunch to the middle of the road of the bunch i wonder actually yeah that'd be interesting yeah i don't know so this is the hobby king fly cat this is the second version of it to me it's reminiscent of a of an elan kind of i i can see that kind of a mix between an elan and maybe what was that thing that if i did the scimitar kind of kind of a mix of the two okay 70 millimeter 41 inch span 219.99 that's for a plug and fly they call it plug and p and f p and f yeah cool looking airplane
[00:31:51] Green and green silver kind of a delta wing twin tail edf 70 millimeter i said that things that are new for the version 2 more powerful more powerful yeah so this is a re-release yeah this updated depth so it's a a 2100 kb motor so 12 lady fan and a new 80 amp speedo so faster than the original version i have to admit i'm not familiar with the original
[00:32:22] Version but this one looks cool and retracts for the price 220 bucks i know for a 70 millimeter edf that by all accounts looks like it flies really really it's rock solid from everything i've seen
[00:32:35] Yeah and what did dave say the important the important word on that one retracts oh yeah with retracts yeah yeah the the apparently v1 did not have retracts ah yeah that i mean that yeah that's
[00:32:49] It might be in my future you never know yeah oh and you can also do reverse thrust so that's kind
[00:32:56] Of cool 6s runs on a 6s three to four thousand so that's i'm kind of out on that one then well i'm
[00:33:03] Not they have stuck they have stuffed a 5 000 into it and it flies just fine well there you go
[00:33:08] Really well a little heavier i didn't want to hear that but okay it will balance on a 5 000.
[00:33:13] Requires obviously the battery and charger and a receiver does it say what five channel or greater xt90.
[00:33:23] That's easy enough to swap absolutely that's what i use in my big stuff is xt90s so all my stuff
[00:33:28] Is icies though mine is too now coming to the dark side it's a cool looking airplane it looks like i've seen i've seen a couple of videos of it fly and in the air it looks really really cool so i can i can totally see for 220 dollars i can see one of these in my hanger initially looks like a floater in a landing yeah that too and nice thing also having servo in each wing you can split them off the whatever the whatever they have their version of their yeah and then you can
[00:34:05] Set it up as like a tailor on setup so you can set them up as ailerons and elevators and really flapper on yeah add flaps flapperons i should say but i think that's i've seen that
[00:34:16] A lot people are going they want to have the flapperons because it does float forever so you don't be able to dump some of that lift yep so well and that's when it's good to have the reverse thrust
[00:34:23] Too once you touch down to be able to have a break of some sort of some kind yeah so yeah 1042
[00:34:30] Millimeter like i said they're 41 inches oh that's a good size yeah the size of that one yeah really yeah 50 millimeters short i like the green white and silver i mean i'm a fan so there you go nice hobby king flycat v2 a very nice price yeah great price now on to the not so nice price yeah
[00:34:49] This one's a little scary but cool arguably you get what you pay for much cooler oh yeah so from free wing this is the sr 71 blackbird twin 70 millimeter edf with gyro and functioning drag shoot
[00:35:07] That's so cool like how do you i have not paid much attention to that how is it hard to package back up and throw in is it like spring-loaded is it i haven't seen too many videos because i don't
[00:35:18] Want to be too entranced by this thing i'm staying away on purpose from what i'm seeing though people are just kind of basically just jamming it stuff in there and it's kind of i think from what i understand it has a spring-loaded floor right and it kind of throws it out yeah so when you don't release open it kind of pushes it out and then the wind catches it they do say absolutely do not use a reverse thrust if you use the drag shoot oh yeah because that could be a real problem yeah yeah and it does look like it works really nice flight-wise it looks like an sr-71 they
[00:35:52] They all tend to rock a little bit and this one even with a gyro looks like it rocks a little bit yeah so but hey live with it because it's an sr-71 yeah it's an sr-71 with three tracks with
[00:36:02] Three tracks really good looking gear and a triple main bogeys and a drag yeah so i've seen a couple of videos of it flying two brothers i see they did like a like a quick hit video i think is what he calls it or maybe it's a video short whatever it is so what i like about this one compared to like the e-flight one that they did the e-flight one looks like it flies okay but it flies like one speed like you fly it super super fast and it lands super super fast throttles super yeah this one
[00:36:34] Because it's bigger bigger flies better right it looks to me anyway it looks more stable and it looks like it actually has an envelope a flight envelope that's i'm not gonna say it's a wide envelope because i mean it's an sr-71 right yeah but at least that's an envelope it will slow down some
[00:36:52] I've seen it in some fairly high alpha yeah yeah right exactly yeah so where i i don't think the
[00:36:56] Smaller one is able to pull that off no no so so that i do i mean with the videos i've seen of it i
[00:37:04] Yeah oh yeah i like it too i like it a lot i don't like what you're getting ready to talk about
[00:37:08] Though yeah i don't like that part either yeah well i'm gonna push that off a little bit okay something i do really like about it is it has multiple decal packages so you're not stuck it just comes in basic black and then you add and they've got i think five maybe six different liveries for it and rudders very oh yeah full flying rudder yep yeah that's cool too yeah the drawback here we go this is where it hurts for a foam jet
[00:37:40] Seven hundred and twenty nine dollars yeah it's up there but truly unique you get what
[00:37:47] You pay for not another one that size it's got a gyro on the market and then that's true too it
[00:37:53] Already has the gyro built in it doesn't have a receiver but you can use any dumb old receiver
[00:37:57] It's got a lighting package in it yeah optional decals you get a lot for your money but man seven
[00:38:05] That's a lot of money for foam it's still a chunk of foam for seven what what gets me though is it it feels like it wasn't that long ago that the thought of spending like 200 bucks on an airplane i know the foam airplane not just foam but an airplane like hurt me yeah i don't know why it's just become okay because yeah now we're talking i mean just a couple years ago you and i both were
[00:38:28] Yeah for a chunk of foam but i mean i mean i would love to have one of these but it's it's just a little bit outside what i'm willing to pay for right now a foam airplane yeah no i get it i mean
[00:38:42] I think there's something what is the wingspan i don't know what it was on there i don't know
[00:38:48] They don't make much on the wingspan on this but it is it is six foot long yeah i was gonna say it's
[00:38:52] Tall so it's it has a presence like in all the videos i've watched i mean it's it yeah it has
[00:38:59] Presence it looks impressive yeah i was wandering on the decals there's only three of them but there's
[00:39:04] A lot to choose from yeah there's three yeah i like it i think it's cool i do too maybe maybe in the used market eventually you never know one of these pops up at the right price side
[00:39:17] I bet they'll get snatched up pretty quick here i guess it's got a 37.8 inch wingspan but it's 74.6 long yeah right yeah yeah yeah i like it okay so that's what we got on new
[00:39:34] Unfortunately it's not it's not quite as fast as the others well it's something something new from stream flight is they have their new premium folding stand i am super super excited about this not not because of the pictures they posted on facebook but it's been a while since somebody has produced a wooden multi-use stand in this size that is quality that is of quality and also
[00:40:07] The price is high i'm not going to deny that but there are stands out there that do the same thing for twice the price that e flat or extreme flight is getting for this so anyway premium folding stand it's all wood it comes with a padded carry bag that's nice yeah right has obviously the the arms that you can adjust to hold your various fuselages and and a thing has holes in it for tool tool storage has a little tray on the or a shelf underneath that you can use to put stuff
[00:40:45] On recesses for hardware that's what they're what i was getting at there it's 39 and a half inches tall which is what i would call table ish height so it's a good height and it's it's it light i saw somewhere i thought i saw a weight but things like less than 10 pounds pretty good traditional wooden stands like that wooden stand i found at iowa whatever it was that thing is like 30 something-ish pounds oh wow still nice don't get me wrong but yeah and it
[00:41:16] Doesn't come with a bag right that's a workout so yeah it's really really cool i'm really excited about it i will eventually be getting one of these 279.99 like i said it's not cheap but for what you get it is the cheapest stand you're going to find out there at that price that has these features and did i mention it comes with a carrying bag multiple times so there you go like i said not quite as fast as the other airplane releases but cool nonetheless cool nonetheless nice i'm excited
[00:41:49] So those are new releases so there you go we should come up with something other than ducted fan but yeah well we did there's there's been a lot the conscendo streak is not dr fan whatever i send a
[00:42:01] Streak i like that all one word sorry are we ready to move on yes let's move on so last episode we talked to hank and he talked to a little bit about the the losi nascar race they were having so i had the chance to go somewhere where they had a bunch of those cars and their own short track to play with my god those are fun like really it's stupid fun where'd you go to do this i'm not gonna say where
[00:42:31] But i went somewhere where they had it okay we can talk off air about where but they so they had i think four or five of them out that we could all just play with and there was a couple of us so the way they had it set up it was a carpet track and then it was a big oval but set up differently than i would because in the middle they had how i'm trying to think how to describe this well so two by four stacked on top of each other so it was like a seven inch wall and it
[00:43:02] Looked like a d almost like a circle cut in half oh that's a good way to put it so they had a circle that was cut in half and then move it 10 feet apart and put a single two or a two by four in the middle to space it out so it kind of looks like a an eye ish does that make sense trying to think how to describe this well so normally when you would do that you would have the inside that's also an oval right yeah so that you would go around this oval track so instead of having a full oval on the inside
[00:43:36] They had let's just say in the shape of an eye so as you're coming into one of the turns if you miss instead of hit right instead of you're running straight into trying by force yep so i hope i described that well enough so there's i'm pretty dense and i got it there were a couple of us racing and we pushed ourselves into the two by four that was just stopping you like right then and there so we
[00:44:07] Pushed and i don't even know how much they weigh they were it was kind of weighty when we put it back we pushed it probably six inches out of the way we broke the two by four literally had splinters come off of the two by four and we were able to drive away and race it didn't break without changing anything that's awesome like we literally pushed them out of the way yeah good on losi for
[00:44:32] Back for making them tough and we're running yeah over racing rubbin's racing yeah and i i
[00:44:37] Mean i think they only get up to like 20 miles an hour or something like that but i i have been looking all over for one because i want one before we go to toledo well that's where i i found out we we cannot buy them yet so last year's nascar series of bodies and whatnot are no longer being manufactured they are discontinued they're sold out so they're coming out with new ones new decals basically for them pretty much new bodies i mean whatever the actual new bodies look like i don't
[00:45:11] Follow nascar much either i'm gonna sound dumb on some of this stuff but i guess every year they change a little bit so they're having new ones produced not out yet and not going to be out before we go in april so that saddens me but it's a blast i mean like i had so much fun yeah well i mean even if they
[00:45:33] Were available i would not be buying one just to take to toledo but well it'll be fun to watch them
[00:45:39] So my my thought was piper wants something a little bit faster so really you can run those like down here in the basement that's it would be i mean she'll be crashing a lot but it's good for her to learn how to handle stuff like that goes a little bit faster yeah so i was thinking about doing
[00:45:57] Something like that for her also awesome cool yeah i mean i'm still going to take my to me a truck because it takes up no room yeah and well it's a truck they look so cool and if we have breaks between heats or something maybe you can take our trucks out there and play with them i have a third one for you by the way okay so and i've got two as well i just need a battery i'm probably going to get a couple i'm probably going to get a two-pack off of amazon what do they take 7.4 volt just to just to sell hard hard pack to sell what whatever you like lipo lipo well i've got to
[00:46:33] Sell five thousands well that five thousand might be that's over well i i ran five thousand so we did these cars but they have to be a hard pack because you don't want these things getting hit and then puncturing and so the rules are always always a hard pack yeah hard case i think they are actually
[00:46:48] If they're the ones you guys used to run in your wrestlers those were hard packs no oh they're not
[00:46:52] No they're the new ones that i bought for powering what was it the oh the big airplanes oh yeah those are hard packs yeah that'll work perfect yeah we don't have to buy anything just an adapter apparently there you go i'm sure that's not yeah i already have the adapter oh cool perfect yeah that'll be fun then i'm looking forward to that toledo is going to be here before we know it yeah i have started getting some stuff together but i'm nowhere near ready and it just hit me how fast it's going to be here so yeah it's time to get this month stuff right almost march well it's april but yeah it's
[00:47:24] The first weekend in april yeah so like a month and a week and a half yeah a month and a week and a half yes it's perfect i'm excited i always like going to toledo it's yeah this will be a fun year i think
[00:47:38] Especially because we're staying on site i'm excited yes for the swap meet for sure but also like i i like catching up with people yeah that we've met and stuff well i see some listeners and
[00:47:49] Yeah our canadian listeners are a blast i love them hey anyway ready to move on yeah
[00:48:00] So the next thing let's talk about the boat now i'm looking at it it's a i keep looking at it actually because it's like right there we received an email from one of our listeners and he said he had an old he called the bait boat that he would like to offer us if we wanted it i'm a sucker i know and i i when i saw it i kind of fell in love it's different i like different
[00:48:25] It's a dual hole i remember what i was thinking x cargo that's what the name of those rooftop carriers
[00:48:35] Were oh never oh i hadn't either i've heard a thule thule thule thule it's not a thule i don't
[00:48:43] Okay schwarzinger anyway not a tumor sorry i'm sorry i got us off track never mind but that's what we do
[00:48:52] We do it so well like i said i like things that are different it's a dual i think that's called dual hull i don't know anything about it's a cat or boats it's a cat oh okay so when he when he emailed he said i thought with a little ingenuity it could be modified to be used as a plain boat recovery device like when ron drives terry's rc sailboats ouch we remember it you need scuba gear for that it wasn't all the way it was not it was fine but i thought
[00:49:23] That was actually a good idea so thanks for making fun of me i mean really i didn't think it was possible to sink a sailboat but i guess it is and well i would be the one to do it i've done it so almost saying would that be like half sink i mean it was capsized it was taking on water and left their own devices it would have been on the bottom yes had it had another probably 45 seconds to a minute before somebody got to it probably would have been it would have been submerged on
[00:49:54] The bottom which would have been gone for all eternity anyway so we said use it for a recovery vehicle which i thought was cool it came with everything like transmitter and all that stuff but the battery for the transmitter was dead it was an old like 72 megahertz futaba something or another which i know nothing about so my idea i was going to switch it over to like a surface radio which i don't own so i figured i'm gonna have to do some research figure what i want
[00:50:26] To buy talking to some guys that do surface stuff do boats and all that and told them what i had and what i was needing to do and i loved it because their suggestion was just use your air radio there's no reason not anymore to not use that for what you need it for and so this is i mean this is there's no rudder there's no i mean it's not like a single motor it's like a normal boat is which is kind of what i was figuring steering and all that stuff with surface but this one it's simple just two
[00:50:59] Speed controllers reversing speed controllers and and all that kind of stuff so i ended up using a couple mixes to make it work the throttle is on the right stick and i had to do that because i needed reverse and the right stick centers itself so i thought that made sense and then steering is on the left stick so when you stare at left through mixing and all that kind of stuff it i haven't floated it yet i haven't boated it yet whatever you want whatever you want to call it
[00:51:31] Piper keeps asking me if she can ride on it told her no it's huge i mean but maybe i don't i don't know maybe she's 30 no she's 44 45 pounds i mean this thing is not small well it's it's it's not as small as i thought it was going to be yeah so it's huge but i i have thought about like i said for joe all having a recovery vehicle which hopefully knock on wood wherever i can find some i will not need again but just in case i think that would be kind of cool for pushing stuff out i will need it at
[00:52:05] Least once probably but i i ended up i stickered it up i got some vinyl that's really good so it's got the a10 shark shark teeth on the side of it and or shark mouth the the way it was set up before i mean it it didn't actually have like windows or anything but i've cut stickers out to make it look like windows and put a couple people in there and stuff so i i really like it so i told crystal that i wanted to name it somehow find a way to cut out stickers on there put like rc plane lab and then
[00:52:38] Put like plane recovery vehicle on it and that way ah yes the prv well we could shorten it up and call it the perv exactly yes when i told her plane recovery vehicle she's like oh that sounds good and then i explained my thinking behind it so we could say hey we need to take the perv out back to go get the the sunken plane or something she no longer found it funny and told me i better not but i don't know how to do that where to put the stickers and all we might have to talk about that but i
[00:53:09] Really i would like you're gonna stick with perv i would love to sticker it up as a i mean you could
[00:53:14] Also go with arv so as not to offend anyone but that's the whole point aircraft recovery vehicle well
[00:53:22] Yeah it could be it could also be the plane recovery boat the prb but that's not as fun no that's not fun so no it's now officially the perv thank you see who wants to go out back and play with the perv perv nice i'm going to the beach with the perv come here little girl go play with the perv oh now
[00:53:44] He had to make it weird see see maybe that's out now damn it dave piper do you want to go ride the perv that's not why i mean do you still want to call it that now no you've ruined it for me like
[00:53:57] Seriously you're welcome you'll thank me later i might fine the only thing that sucks about this is that just proves that crystals right most of the time yeah but cool boat yeah thanks cool never
[00:54:12] Seen anything i like it i like how i like how you stickered it up i think it looks really really good it's all fiberglass it's heavy it's very heavy very heavy it's a good thing it comes with carrying handle i said it better need some ballast to get it down i will see i bet it looks like a cork probably yeah but it i mean it's it's it's it should be fun it's some fine unit i can't wait
[00:54:35] To it's all shiny i don't remember it being shiny when we picked it up to clean it all up yeah looks
[00:54:39] Like i did a lot of work on it so have you split the split the hole did you like you took the top off
[00:54:46] The bottom oh yeah i mean i had to redo all the insides and stuff all right there was a bunch of look good inside nice yeah i mean it's it's done well i don't know the actual history behind how is
[00:54:57] It propelled there's two propellers on the back it's got court nozzles in the back thrusters thrusters
[00:55:03] Kind of a thing yeah like ducted they're like a ducted fan kind of yeah and that's just ran straight into a motor inside that's got a reversing speed controller on it big e-flight motors so oh okay cool i think it was castle so what is it what two two successes each one is a six no three s each one is three s five thousand and then the the receiver is powered off something else it's off of 2s but what i'm thinking about doing though especially if it does go to journal
[00:55:36] Getting a what's it called the camera for it so we could do fpv but instead of the glasses because i cannot handle that just getting one of the screens yeah yeah that would be that'll be helpful
[00:55:49] For yeah hooking onto a yeah stricken airplane mm-hmm but yeah i'm very excited about that and i
[00:55:57] Can't wait to float it or boat it or whatever whatever that is yeah maybe we need to go this summer something out on daniel's boat and into the lake and that would be fun take the bird to the lake
[00:56:09] See we're not doing that anymore oh that saddens me anyway i mean sorry it's okay so dave has
[00:56:20] Something else to talk about are you ready okay it's time for rc plane labs tool of the week
[00:56:30] Okay so i was looking to fill out an order and that's how you got it yes this is how i got it actually i've been looking for one of these for a while they're sold on hobby king and they were always out of stock so i was never able to get one this is a great little tool for quick field repairs it is a lipo powered hot glue gun nice yeah and it's incredibly inexpensive it even came with the right connector on it for me not for me but that's okay dean's yeah yeah seven bucks
[00:57:07] Oh that's seven seven bucks yeah what did you said hobby no it was out on hobby king
[00:57:12] It was every time i've ever looked on hobby king they were out of stock this one i got from value hobby oh okay yeah so i got my chicago yeah i ordered some covering to for something else we'll talk about later but i saw this on here it was seven bucks and it's like okay for seven bucks even
[00:57:32] If it doesn't work yeah it's just gonna go in the trash can yeah it's worth this it's worth the seven dollars just to talk about it as a tool of the week yeah especially because i didn't pay the seven
[00:57:42] Dollars yeah and it's a three cell lipo i ran it on a just for a test i just got it yes last night i ran it for a test last night on a 1600 milliamp three cell it warmed up
[00:57:57] Made enough goo to equate to a repair just a quickie repair and i turned it back off pulled the battery and it used five percent of the battery i have what do you have like the alarm thing or reader on the i if you were to use this a lot i would probably recommend getting a cut off for it or one of the alarms whatever because this does not have anything to keep you from running them down but there's nothing to say you can't use just one of your old nasty batteries
[00:58:26] That you're not going to fly anymore to power yeah but with my luck i'd forget and leave it plugged in set it down then come back way later and not way later but what you mean like i wonder
[00:58:37] How long that actually runs off i wouldn't imagine it would run very long because i mean it is a heating element so it's going to pull a fair amount of juice i ran it probably for eight to ten minutes last night and it used five percent so that's a lot longer than i expected and that was on a 1600 milliamp pack so not a huge pack right enough to do a repair yeah you're gonna
[00:58:59] Be able to do a quick and easy repair on this i mean you'll be able to run it for an hour then at that rate with a bigger battery it doesn't have an on-off switch so you can modulate it as
[00:59:08] You need that's nice too that is handy seven dollars seven dollars so this is something needs to be in your flight box especially if like foamies because these are yeah yeah yeah well now that you have one i don't need to buy one you can't afford to seven dollars yeah that must be it
[00:59:24] Actually that's that's a good idea it kind of matches i have one of the battery powered soldering irons that i've never used but but you're gonna have it just in case i need it yeah yeah and that's why you've never used it because i haven't right haven't needed it which is good but i i think that would be more handy than the actual soldering iron there's been i've got a gas powered soldering
[00:59:51] Iron if need be see i do too butane yeah i i would think the electric one would just suck the battery
[00:59:58] Down so quick well but you're kind of doing the same thing there you're heating up a lot more area but this doesn't get to 800 degrees versus that's true so yeah either way i'm just shaking
[01:00:10] And said yeah yeah i mean you guys all have good points so anyway this i think is going to go in the flight box and i bet it gets a fair amount of use because i break stuff so do i yes well mostly
[01:00:22] Ron's stuff but yeah watch this yeah hey y'all hey watch this crash yeah thank you all right so
[01:00:32] Two of the week nice seven dollar hot glue gun cool battery powered so i have one more thing to talk about before dave gets into the work he's been doing recently you want to go first you want me to go right ahead okay so i'm going a little out of order on this but i wanted to talk about it because well it's something i've done recently our next episode is going to be with dan landis from boomerang rc jets
[01:01:03] So that was one that we recorded a little while ago which by the way it will be available i think three or four days early for patrons so if anybody wants to listen early without ads rcplanelab.com patreon but anyway so we were talking and i don't think we were talking on the podcast about we were talking off air because you took your jet there to have him look over and one of the things he suggested was getting or one of the possible things to do was getting another brake controller
[01:01:36] The what was it the asan ag68 retract controller i think is what it's called yep so i took his advice on that 100 bucks give or take i ended up getting it for my jet because i wasn't thrilled with the way the brakes were on that and the thing that drew me a lot to this that the other ones that well the ones you have and the one i have doesn't have didn't have this one is proportional brakes whereas the ones we have are just on off at a certain percent so there's no you can't
[01:02:12] Feather the brakes on the old ones right you can with this one so i got it and got it installed it's actually kind of cool because when i so on mine i put the the brakes on the right rear slider knob and as you run through that that motion on it you actually can hear them making different noises and when you manually twist it you can feel different resistance in them so i haven't actually ran it yet and had it go down a runway to see exactly how much brake force is there but it feels
[01:02:45] Like it's gonna be enough to lock them up which i don't want to do which is fine so i'm i'm pretty happy with that so far yeah the only thing i will say the instructions suck like they are it's it's i think that's why dan produced a video yeah himself and even that didn't help me because i didn't set it up the way it's fully intended to be set up so and this is my first time i had to contact him
[01:03:17] Very quick to respond and help me out and got stuff taken care of so and i will tell you this too because you're probably going to get one and set it up on on your jet tommy it is powered by okay so it's got ports on it obviously this also has a steering gyro built in so this will pretty much do the same thing that the gyro that i already have on my jet with the synapse does steering gyro for when you're going down the the runway and stuff i wasn't going to use that yeah which which modulates
[01:03:52] The steering servo right the ag68 adds to that by modulating left and right brakes also individually
[01:04:00] Does it yes i did not see that anywhere and i know that's why he produced his own video and if you go back and watch it he kind of touches on it and maybe i misunderstood but per our conversation with him and then the video i watched i understand that the gyro that is built into that ag68 also modulates left and right brake to help control to keep it straight i'm gonna have to look
[01:04:26] Into that then before because i don't want it to be fighting the other gyro that i have i didn't realize that and like i said the instructions are so hard to follow they're yeah not great
[01:04:40] Yeah instructions are not great that's what i'm saying yeah so now i'm now i'm thinking but anyway so
[01:04:45] The the the long story short it's powered obviously externally for the brakes but the board itself gets power from the receiver through the steering input oh really right so you have to have yeah the steering input hooked up which that was the first thing i didn't know i i ran it and hooked up the
[01:05:07] Which is just why why cable the the the lead going to the nose servo and then just unhook the power so you've got the signal what i'm saying you probably take the signal but
[01:05:20] Just no power no okay that's the other thing i found out so i originally had it set up obviously you have two wires running to it for brake and one for retract so i had all that hooked up and had all the brakes hooked up had the retract servos hooked up and all that and it wouldn't turn on so i figured by watching a video online that you actually had to have the power come in through the steering servo input does that make sense so i hooked that up but this is where i messed up i just
[01:05:53] Hooked it up to an empty port on my receiver because it's 20 channel receivers had plenty of ports open just figured i needed power so i hooked it up on that it would not go out of initialization mode just kept flashing fast and all that stuff so that's when i couldn't figure it out looked online couldn't figure it out texted dan and stuff and he told me that it actually needed to be well he said first off just try and actually put it in the steering servo port and see if that fixes it so i changed that
[01:06:27] Over to the steering servo port and then everything initialized and stuff so i texted him back let it let him know it worked i said so i i assume it's looking for a centered servo signal on the input on that before it will boot up and he said yeah that's exactly what it's doing so because i had so many extra channels it wasn't a big deal i just plugged it into an open channel and then assigned it assigned it and then just copied over with a mix so i have a mix now that goes from
[01:06:57] The steering nose wheel to that and then another mix that goes from the nose wheel to the rudder so i mean there's multiple mixes on that but by having that now it doesn't do anything but it still gets signal a centered signal to say hey i'm fine go ahead and boot up after i did that like said things worked fine and i had no issues but now that you're saying that might be something with ask dan
[01:07:21] To make sure but that was that was what i gathered from our conversation with them and the video i watched is i think that the gyro works in tandem with the brakes okay like but i like i said that's
[01:07:32] That was my understanding well it didn't in the video that i saw it didn't say anything yeah excuse me it didn't say anything about that it just said that it was there was yeah there was like a
[01:07:44] A scent like it was just like a brief touch on the on the brake and then he he combined i think he combined like it's been a while since i've watched the video so i could be wrong but he combined a couple of words into one sentence that made me think oh so the brakes are individually
[01:08:02] Modulated based on i was wondering that myself because like can you adjust the brake bias in case you get it pull onto one side well you can do that gyros doing that then well you can do that on
[01:08:12] Well at least on my jp controller i can adjust left and right bias but it's not like it's not on the fly it's not proportional like it's all brakes or no brakes right so you can i can adjust the maximum
[01:08:24] Brake force per side you you can adjust the brake or brake force per side with with the potentiometers that are on there right but so for to like what dave is saying yes if you're pulling to one side you can adjust that other side be heavier or less right it's still just on or off but the amount that it's on is what's changing but the gyro is going to take care of that so you shouldn't not in the other retracts that we're talking about like with with the actual right with the old stuff yeah with this
[01:08:54] One apparently maybe it does talk to dan make sure but i'll have to i think i have to get some more information on that just to be sure but the way it feels and is set up now like i said it's it's
[01:09:05] I'm happy with it cool well worth i'll probably eventually order one myself so i would
[01:09:12] Probably just do it and be done with it i mean after having the the other one it's just a pain because you got to make sure that you get it set just right to where you're not locking up your tires because you get flat spots and obviously i was to that point where it was too much because i have flat spots on my tires so now having the ability i didn't even know they were locking up on yours so i guess as you're obviously slowing down breaking hitting different bumps and getting less and more pressure on them obviously it's going to be they get right then come back down and right
[01:09:46] Yeah so if you kind of touch down as soon as you touch down they're going to be locked up if you have the brakes on which i usually i mean don't when you actually land but if you land then try get on the brakes quick and you're still not completely off the wing it's going to be a lot lighter and it's going to lock up easier that way i still think i still think mine
[01:10:09] Are proportional though because like so when i have mine all hooked up and i engage the brakes they buzz you can you can hear them buzzing and i can change the tone of the buzz based on how far i
[01:10:23] Move that rocker on mine oh that's i mean then maybe it is because that's exactly how this one is yeah i mean it changes a lot yeah whereas the other one yeah and i don't know if you remember
[01:10:33] But when when dan was feeling my brakes he's like oh that that's weird because i i had just barely moved the rocker and when i moved it fully that's when they then that's when he said oh there's a delay and i'm like no it was the rocker i think they're proportional and he said no they're not but i
[01:10:49] I think they may be okay but well that's something to put a battery on and just play with and see
[01:10:53] Yeah you'll know i mean yeah for sure that would be nice well we'll see before i order that
[01:11:01] I'll taxi test it or something and see what you don't even have to do that to figure it out like you can tell a huge difference like on mine just by spinning it by hand and then putting the different switching the switch higher and lower you can tell even mine at full full break
[01:11:19] I mean i can still turn the wheel not easily but i can still turn it won't walk there's a lot less
[01:11:25] Pressure on those like it's not like a car where you want to be able to lock it up right to where you can't turn it all by hand because there's not a lot of weight on them so and there's not a lot of traction so you just need enough to slow it down it's not as much as you would think it is yeah okay so yeah so that was the other thing i did and i'm happy with the change so far good good good glad
[01:11:52] That's working for you yeah your turn dave yeah what have you been working on oh i've been working what have you guys been working on well i was gone for two weeks so i worked on zero zero so it's all of you so you got a zero to work on i well i have plenty to work on i just did a zero work
[01:12:08] What he said you have a zero oh no i don't have a zero sorry over his head yeah yeah anyway yeah
[01:12:17] I've been working like crazy it's my happy season i'd rather build than fly so finished up my
[01:12:25] Restructuring of the goldberg cub that's now in any one navy navalized cub so i got that all completely refurbished and repainted and it's ready to fly i've got terry dunn's donated xb70 i've got it refurbished repainted and ready to fly yeah and i got tommy's non-flying wing refurbished and ready to crash the bucking bronco so i'm gonna be honest i just now understood
[01:12:58] Looking at the tail what that is it took me what don't look at me like that so it just hit me like for some reason i thought that was a witch's hat yeah no but it makes a lot of sense now that i
[01:13:14] It's a shark as soon as i took the the old ones off of it and laid them down and started tracing them out to make new ones it's like this is a shark fin and that set the theme for the entire build
[01:13:26] And i love it by the way yeah it's even more funny now when it's a shark fin and not a witch's head we'll have pictures on the website if you want to go see what we're talking about i will post a picture underneath the video description or not video the audio path or podcast post whatever i'm trying to say what i mean
[01:13:47] And of course because of the the shark theme i had to do it in tommy's favorite color i don't know gray it's gray on top white on the bottom that won't be hard to see at all i i i did restrain myself and didn't put the little darker bars of gray like a striping that sharks have i didn't put that on there because i figured the little extra camo wasn't going to work in my
[01:14:11] Favor and it does have the the gold green spots on the bottom so it's reminiscent of another airplane
[01:14:18] That was very very fast well it's the same decals that's a goblin i just reprinted the goblin decals
[01:14:24] And put them on the bottom so i do have a question though you went through so much time and effort in
[01:14:29] That why are the push rods and control horn still red because i wanted some contrast and it looked like blood okay okay yeah i don't know that and i just didn't want to sand the rods but yeah they got a fresh coat of rust-oleum just just a little contrast they were red before right yeah we're red before okay had to build a new little hatch in the center because the plastic was pretty pretty
[01:14:58] Gone multiple crashes multiple crashes we know it's tough i like it i like it better now that all of that ugly tape is off there was a whole lot of tape yeah that took me like two hours pull all that tape off and i'm a little sad honestly that there's no lights on it but well it will probably get lights if it flies i bet it will yeah i can see that i bet i don't see any reason why it would not fly
[01:15:26] Now i added a considerable amount of lead in the nose now those the ailerons are that's how they're
[01:15:32] Supposed to be they look backwards to me nope that's the way they were on it when i got it so
[01:15:38] They're wider on the outside i would have expected it to be the other way yeah i would expect it the other
[01:15:42] Way around as well but that's the way they were when i got it okay which is the way they were when
[01:15:47] I got it right which is the way they were when you wanted to run over it with the camper because
[01:15:51] You hated it so much yes exactly i'm glad you didn't that looks good so i had a lot of fun with it and if it flies that's great if it doesn't oh well sharkinator i like the sharkinator that's cool not a witch's head but now that i'm done with it it looks more like a ray as flat as it is it does
[01:16:11] Look like yeah yeah manner you need to have like well you can't because of the propeller but you need to have like a a tail a wet tail yeah that would probably help with stability yeah honestly
[01:16:20] Probably would oh stupid i like don't be such a hater it's okay no dave did a great job but it looks fantastic yeah i will have never have any love for that thing what if it flies great now because
[01:16:32] He found i was still hate it yeah i found a couple issues with it so i will still hate it no what are the issues you found needed a lot of nose weight just and i am just speculating at center of gravity on this thing so it may not need as much as i think it did but i think it needed a lot which it had one ounce in it to start with and it's now got two and a half or three ounces in it
[01:16:56] Now but we have no clue what this is though right we have no idea what it is what the original airplane
[01:17:01] Was and then one of the easy connects was severely bound wasn't moving at all so i think that was causing a binding issue with the servo not or the surface not coming back to central
[01:17:17] Which in something this small fast and that would certainly cause issues with so fighting it in the
[01:17:23] Air tail heavy and not coming back to neutral could be a big issue yep nice so hopefully hopefully hopefully hopefully tom will get a fly it and say i love this thing nope not gonna do it it's already off his spreadsheet that's right yeah well i don't think i put it on mine yet so
[01:17:44] That's funny though it looks good though thanks guys i like it dave did a good job
[01:17:48] And it's one of those stupid things it's like what am i going to do with this yeah i agree anyway here we go and then i started working on the
[01:18:01] Toledo project i got two years ago the the 60 mystery plane that kind of looked like an l19 kind of kind of looked like a decathlon yeah not really sure what it was exactly but you figured it out i figured it out i started wingspan and playing around on the internet and come to find out it appears to be a sig satabria a very poorly built sig satabria as it turns to that yeah but pretty rough it's rough yeah and it's like it's sort of like i thought they smelled bad on the outside
[01:18:35] Yeah that was a was that the melted pilot yeah that was melted pilot yeah the cowl is wrong
[01:18:42] It's got an aftermarket fiberglass cowl on it that appears to be for a champ in there which is actually a very similar airplane a lot a lot of issues with this airplane but it almost went in the trash can no but dave doesn't like to dave i don't unless
[01:19:03] It's hopeless yeah because your wings still alive so it's hopeless to us doesn't mean it's not hopeless
[01:19:10] To you so it it's it's pretty sure to go back together either of you had had the frustration of trying to fly that wing you also would have thrown it away i'm just saying i think the difference is
[01:19:22] I probably would have actually just knocked it over my knee broke it in half and thrown in the garbage
[01:19:27] Can right i now see it as a challenge it's it's either going to fly or it's just going to destroy
[01:19:33] Itself and unfortunately it's really tough so yeah and that's one of the things like if it truly flew that bad you don't want to give it to somebody because dave wanted it right but i'm saying like what's the fun in that for them you don't want to oh here have this airplane yeah that's just rude
[01:19:49] Well yeah i see what you're saying but the person that took the airplane from me dave yeah he saw how yes crummy it flew so he knew what he was getting i knew what i got into yeah so i didn't feel bad at all no although i really would rather have run it over with the rb i guess i guess my point is
[01:20:08] Like if there's a plane i don't like or something that i'm just done with i will hand it off to somebody and say here you go i did that with one of them what was that in joan i didn't like the way that carbon cub flew the yeah the silver and yellow one yeah yeah so just gave somebody here you go but i think that was i was expecting more it still flew okay this one truly flew like
[01:20:32] A dumpster fire so i would not have just tried to give that somebody to be nice that would have been more mean than anything had they not seen it fly but dave knew what he was yeah it is what
[01:20:43] It is so the cigs atabria sorry we're getting off track oh we the plans what are the plans for it the plans for it is get it restructured right as far as covering goes i was kind of torn i kind of like it it came in an olive drab with d-day stripes on it and it looked kind of cool and it's rough in right yeah it's a 60 airplane you can imagine yes well that wasn't the color it started
[01:21:06] Off as either because it was had so much smoke damage oh no that was the cub i'm thinking of
[01:21:12] A different one yeah yeah that was the that was the goldberg cub that's now the ne1 that was green
[01:21:17] Too though right yeah yeah maybe that's why i'm getting them confused i don't remember this one then like i remember the the pilot but that's about all yeah this is the melted pilot one the other one was the cub that we got for 50 bucks yeah i remember in the the corner i remember where you and it smelled so bad that was fabric covered one right yeah it was fabric covered i tell you
[01:21:37] What the builder on that one i don't know who this guy was impeccable build it's to my level and then some so i mean other than the covering being rotten on it he was a wonderful builder the satabria on the other hand i'm pretty sure was built by like a four-year-old probably something i did many years ago yeah no this one was finished oh sorry so this was in all drab d-day stripes i actually kind of liked it like i i saw i saw what they were going for and i almost put it back to that and it's like
[01:22:09] No i've got too many elf l birds around here so i got thinking about it and it's like okay i'll do i got on the internet and started looking at actual satabria paint schemes once i figured it was a satabria and i wasn't a real fan of like getting them i really saw and then i came across one for a flight school in middle lothian texas and it was done as a world war ii trainer colors with yellow wings blue fuselage i think that'll look look pretty sharp yeah plus the those colors will help hide some of the issues that this thing has right and i'm fixing a lot of them but i'm not going to spend my
[01:22:44] Entire life on this thing so i think it looks pretty cool i did some more research on the full size aircraft and apparently it crashed doing an instruction flight and unfortunately the student pilot died oh that's bad yeah that's bad juju but it's the only one i saw on the internet look like this and it was pretty sharp so we're going to give it a shot okay just don't reenact the i'm hoping not to do that full size one yeah you'll be fine no i think the blue and yellow will look really really good yeah world war ii trainer colors nice and visible yeah it's not gray and
[01:23:18] Different yeah and not gray and not gray and white and blue yes yeah so nice cool so hopefully i can dig through all the issues with this thing and get them straightened out like i said it's it's got a few it's not even the same left to right that would make a decent repair blog or repair log build log
[01:23:40] Yeah yeah yeah yeah we'll talk later but i had some plans for this going into it but i i think my photographs i took in the in the before shots are gonna take it out of condition for what i was
[01:23:52] Wanting to do with it okay well maybe next time yeah what have you been working on ron i talked about
[01:24:00] Everything i've done oh yeah what have you been doing tommy well nothing yes so let's hear from
[01:24:08] Our listeners what they've been up to there you go yeah tell us hit us up send us an email anything else tom at rcplanelab.com or ron at rcplanelab.com or dave at rcplanelab.com you asked no i said anything else well that was something else oh are we done yeah i'm done i'm done i wish i had more to add but
[01:24:32] I really yeah you really had nothing but that's okay well i'm gone maybe next time maybe next time
[01:24:36] Maybe next time i doubt it because i know i have something else i have to finish before i start any
[01:24:41] Airplane projects yeah me too but that's all right it's only been a year okay well thank you everybody for listening until next time i'm ron i'm tom and i'm dave good night good night good night

Putting aside the “other” negative aspects of the Cyber Truck. I think you be very sad towing that trailer with really any Electric truck.
