[00:00:01] Before we get started in this episode of the RC Plane Lab podcast, I wanted to remind everybody that Horizon Hobbies RC Fest is coming up June 9th and 10th, so that will be one week from the release of this episode. It is hosted by the Monticello Model Masters, which is one of the clubs that I belong to. Because of that, I plan on being there as much as possible both days.
[00:00:20] So, come out to Eli Field and say hi. I would love to meet you. If you're anywhere near central Illinois, it is definitely worth the drive. For more information, go to horizonrcfest.com, and if you missed it this year, it's okay. Plan on coming next year. Now, let's talk about Joe Knoll. Hello, everyone. Welcome to the RC Plane Lab podcast. I'm Ron. I'm Tom. We are
[00:00:54] Back from Joe Knoll. Just a quick reminder, this is going to be the last episode for me for a while, so I appreciate everybody listening. I'll see you guys when I get back, or you'll hear me when I get back, whatever it is. But you can look forward to really riveting episodes
[00:01:10] With Ron and Dave. Riveting. Riveting. I don't know. You're putting a lot of pressure on me. I thought maybe we'd take time off ourselves, because you're the heartbeat of the podcast. Oh, stop it. That's not true. Well, I mean, I didn't think so either, but that's
[00:01:27] It. But yeah, back from Joe Knoll. It was an experience. What, and I heard this theme a lot, and I can credit Jeff Arsenault for this. What was a bucket list item is now an annual requirement. So you're in for next year. We have to go. Well, I mean, I can't like commit
[00:01:47] Right now. As long as the stars align. Yes, if the stars align. And for next year. Yeah.
[00:01:52] Oh, for sure. Me too. Yeah. It's not an event that I want to miss again. I have the time
[00:01:58] Off at work already. Got to get it in early. Well, they tell you, like, if you look at the Joe Knoll website, it tells you the next two years, I think, the dates that it's going to be. They do. Yeah, right on the website. So we are set. That's funny. I can always cancel it, but rather have it in than not. Yeah. No, I get that. Before we get started, I just
[00:02:16] Want to hit up Patreon. If you're not a patron of the show, you can go to Patreon and support what we do if you like what we do. Also, we have a swag store. If you go to our website, rcplanelab.com. There's a link in the links there for our swag. You can buy t-shirts. Speaking of t-shirts, Lori's going to make some new designs and put them on there.
[00:02:36] I hope she remembers. She will. She'll be bored here in a little while, so there's probably
[00:02:40] Going to be a lot. She probably will. Yeah, there'll be a lot of design work going on here in my basement. We're recording in my basement for a change. A change of scenery. Yeah. I like it. I do, too. It's super convenient. Well, for you. Yeah.
[00:02:55] Yeah. It's different. I can't complain, though. I had to come over to pick up my telemaster.
[00:03:02] Your ginormous telemaster. Which takes up half my basement. No, it does not. A little bit. Yeah. It's not done, but it's close. It wouldn't take maybe a couple of evenings for you to finish it and get it ready. So when you get back, it'll be
[00:03:19] Waiting. No, I'm kidding. No, I really do want to get that done, but that's something we'll talk about on another episode. Another episode. This I want to be Joe and all centralized on nothing but the week. Yeah. Kind of talk about what we experienced, what we thought. I don't want to get too much into what we've already talked about before. There's already been a couple episodes where we kind of touched on a few things. Yeah. From there. Yeah. But this is the encompasses the whole trip there back. We're done. We're unpacked. Our planes
[00:03:49] Are put away. Mostly. Okay. Mostly. Yeah. I still have a couple out in the garage that we'll have to go downstairs. But it was a good week. Oh my gosh. It was such a good week. So how do you want to do this? Do you want to try and start?
[00:04:02] Well, yeah. We can kind of go down and chronological. It's a tough word. For me, it is. Sorry. I don't. Go ahead. I said chronological order and then I changed my mind. So welcome to my brain. I want to give a shout out to the people that we met first. Yeah. Because there was a bunch. Quite a few. Yeah. A bunch of listeners came up and said hi to us. Mostly they came
[00:04:25] Up and said hi to me first because I was wearing my RC plane lab swag. Yeah. And that's
[00:04:31] Okay. I didn't. No, it's fine. I don't mind. What's funny though is I'm not used to people saying hi that you don't know. Right. Yeah. But as the week went on and the more and more people came up, the more comfortable I got with it. Yeah. So I will say if you see me out, say hi to me. Yeah, for sure. I mean, I hope there was nobody that thought, oh, he doesn't like it. Man, that guy's a jerk. Well, I've been called worse. But it was funny the different approaches people took to coming up to say hi. There were some people that just
[00:05:02] Came up and said something. Yeah. One guy, I absolutely loved it, came up and he was just very quiet, very meek. And he just, look, I know you don't like people coming up to say hi to you, but I just, I wanted to say hi and tell you I like the show. And I mean, that was great. Yeah. Like it was, it was awesome. Big shout out though to Jeff and his crew.
[00:05:23] Oh, man. Tour guide Barbie. He's getting a shirt, by the way. Everybody needs a Jeff.
[00:05:31] Yeah, everybody does need a Jeff, but also a Jeff. Subliminal, I guess. I don't know where I was thinking that. But yeah, everybody needs a Jeff because he helped out quite a bit. Oh, man. Having not been there before us, having not been there before, having somebody that knew the ins and outs. And there really wasn't that much that you couldn't have
[00:05:51] Picked up on by yourself. That's true. But being able to get there and jump right in was all thanks to Jeff and his crew, the Rhode Island guys. And they did a wonderful job.
[00:06:03] They did. Feeding us. Oh, man. Steaks for, what was it, four nights in a row I think we had steak? Oh, my gosh. Yeah. Yeah. The food there is great. It really is. And I have not had steak since I got back, but I have really been wanting to. So actually on the way home today, I think I might go pick up one. There you go. Well, more than one. We should probably
[00:06:23] Pick up more than one because Crystal might like to have a steak also. Well, she'll be
[00:06:26] Gone late, so. No, I will get multiples. Yeah. But anyway, no, shout out to Jeff.
[00:06:32] But yeah, thanks, Jeff, a ton for everything you did for us. He met our trailer guy there. Obviously, we rented a camper from somebody local because neither of us own one. So he was there to meet the delivery, help him get it set up, find us a good spot, which a spot
[00:06:49] Was, I thought was really good. I was very happy with it. So yeah, Jeff, James, Joe, Don,
[00:07:00] I'm going to forget Tom. I'm going to forget, I know, at least a couple of them. There were so many. I'm so bad with names. But yeah, those guys really, really made us feel welcome and certainly made it easy for us to just get, show up and jump right in. Yeah. Which
[00:07:14] Is good. And I also want to thank Matt. Because I was tired. I also want to thank Matt. You were tired. Okay, I get it. We'll get to that. But anyway, I also want to thank Matt. Yeah. He fed us breakfast one morning. He did. Well, he offered more than once even. The second time, but we turned down. And then I don't know if he just got sick of asking, but. Well, he probably got sick of us. He didn't. Probably. Probably. That happens pretty quickly. Yeah.
[00:07:34] Thanks. Thanks, Matt, for breakfast. It was wonderful. And Matt was one that got a premium site this year. So we knew one person that snuck in before. Yeah. Right. Before. Yeah.
[00:07:45] Because he. So if you've had a premium site previously, then you're sort of on the list
[00:07:50] To get it for the next one. Yeah. It's yours until you stop using it. Right. And Matt was
[00:07:54] Fortunate enough to get one his first try. So congratulations, Matt. Hopefully we'll be in the same boat next year. We'll see. No hard feelings. No hard. Well, kind of, but not really. Well,
[00:08:04] Not towards him. No, no, no. To the process. Like next year, I think when we try to get the premium spot, we will have as many people as we know clicking on that button and hope that one of them. Hope that one makes it through. Yeah. But so let's, let's talk about our trip down then if you want to go on. Okay. Well, so. Because I don't know what happened. We sort
[00:08:24] Of. Well, what, how it started. We sort of had a little bit of a snafu with my trailer. I showed up at your house and we were all set to start loading. And as it turns out, your golf cart will not fit on my trailer, even though we thought that my trailer and
[00:08:43] Your trailer were exactly the same. I was surprised. Your trailer is two feet longer
[00:08:46] Than mine. So we ended up taking Ron's trailer, which was a little bit of a stress factor for Ron. Cause he was, he's a worry wart. I was not prepared to take that trailer and it did great. It did fine. but yeah, well, the lights weren't working or one of the lights wasn't working and we had to do the bearings real quick. Yeah. It's been sitting for like over a year. Had to put some air in the tires. Touched it. But it, it, anyway, we had to pivot. we had to grab your trailer and we loaded that. Once we got loaded, got on the road things, we made that first stop to check the load. And that's
[00:09:19] When I discovered that Ron had forgot to put the pin in the hitch. Okay. No, no, no,
[00:09:23] No, no, no. Now, hold on. The way I remember it is a little bit different than that. So I hooked the trailer up to the car. Right. And I, so I put it on the ball and then I hooked up the chains and then Crystal started talking to me and you said, if I remember this right, you said, Hey, go finish that stuff with her. I'll take care of this. I don't remember that. See, I remember you saying that. That's why I left and why you started. So it did not
[00:09:48] Get locked down. Like we did not. Like the latch wasn't even down. It was just sitting on the ball of the hitch. Oops. Yeah. Luckily we, we didn't go far. We made about 10 miles, was it? 10 or 12 miles. Yeah. It was ended up being about 20 minutes later. We've made
[00:10:03] That first stop. Cause I was thirsty. I wanted something to drink for the road and I did the
[00:10:08] Load check and that's when I discovered it. And the pin was actually still sitting on top
[00:10:11] Of the tongue of the trailer, which I can't believe. I know. I'm so surprised we lucked out
[00:10:15] On that one. It could have been a lot worse. Yeah. But it worked out. the rest of
[00:10:19] The trip was pretty smooth for you. Okay. So yes, I slept most of the way there, but it wasn't a comfortable sleep. Well, that's okay then. I just want you to know. As long as you weren't comfortable. I was very restless and I was, I didn't have room to spread out.
[00:10:40] But I couldn't. Well, to be fair, to be fair, you did tell me, that you were uncomfortable driving my car at night because of the headlights. And I, I agree. The headlights on my car are terrible. Yeah. they're not bright. so I was prepared. It wasn't a big deal, but it's still, it's still fun to make fun of you for not, for not driving at all. I think
[00:10:58] I also told you that I'm pretty useless after 10 o'clock. You did say that. So I will probably be sleeping. And you said that was fine. And it was, it really was. Yeah. I mean, I was
[00:11:08] Kind of a zombie when we got there, but not bad because I stayed up another, what, 12 or 13 hours while we took everything in after we got there. I felt bad for you because we
[00:11:16] Got there and you're like, all right, I'm going to, we're going to get camp set up and then I'm going to go nap for two or three hours. It was just too much to see. Like you
[00:11:23] Were, I couldn't, you were up straight. I mean, people were flying. There were big airplanes up on the main line already. People were flying jets already. I mean, I couldn't, there was no way I was going to go to sleep for a few hours with everything that was going on as
[00:11:36] Soon as we got there. And I was bright eyed and bushy tailed cause I had slept. Okay. Restlessly. Well, so as the night progressed, like I, I think the last two gas stops, I pretty much only woke up for the gas stops. Like I, it wasn't a good sleep, but it was enough to
[00:11:55] Keep me out. Yeah. Right. So, so for everybody, it's 12 hours. It was, it was right at 12 hours with the, with the stops. So that's how long it took us to get there, which wasn't too bad when you sleep mostly. but to Ron's credit, the ride home, he did, he did pitch in and, drove a fair amount of that on the way home. And that actually made it so much easier for me. I mean, in daylight, I had no problem. Yeah. When we got home, I was ready to try to unload the car and we'll talk about that later. Oh, I forgot about that.
[00:12:29] Yeah. That, so anyway, we'll get to that later. That was the worst part of the whole
[00:12:32] Trip. Yeah. I think so. Which was not even at Joe Nall. So perfect. So does it, does it really count? No, I don't think so. I don't think so either. Like by the time the next Joe Nall rolls around, I will have completely forgotten about all the, the ending part at your house.
[00:12:47] Yeah. So we'll get to that. Yeah. So, okay. So we get there. Yeah. We go around and see some stuff. Yep. What, like one of the things I, I, I feel bad cause I don't remember what the airplane is. I do too. You do? I know. I know. No, I'm, I feel bad. Yeah. So one of our listeners came up and was talking to us. His name was John. John. Yeah. And people were very nice by the way about offering us places to sit under their tents, come hang out with us. You want a beer? I don't have drinks, but I still had, sodas from people
[00:13:20] And all that kind of stuff. And it was just, it was very nice. The, the camaraderie I guess was what I could say for that. But anyway, so John came up and said, Hey, I've got an airplane. If you guys want to come over and sit with me, it's on the main line. We're down towards the end. We went down and saw it. I don't remember. I want to say Brandenburg, but I could be completely wrong. Like maybe I'm just thinking of Brandenburg with
[00:13:42] A B. I don't know. That doesn't, I mean, it was, it's a huge biplane and what's unique about it is it has, from what I remember, it had actually two sets of struts on the wing instead of just having the outer interplane struts. It had two sets of them and the outer ones were canted. Just a beautiful, in my opinion, a beautiful biplane. I agree. With lots of setup. I agree. Yeah. John spent a fair amount of whatever, the days all sort of ran together. Yeah.
[00:14:12] I forgot what day it was, but he did spend a fair amount, the day they flew it the first time after they flew it, making adjustments and with the rigging and wash out and getting it just right. And I did see it fly after they fixed it.
[00:14:26] And it, boy, did it look good.
[00:14:29] Yeah. That was a very good sounding airplane. Yeah. Good looking airplane. I went down and, congratulate him and told him thanks for, getting it fixed so we could watch it fly. But I, it completely escapes my mind what it was called.
[00:14:42] Well, and see, I plan on going back to it.
[00:14:43] John, if you're out there and you're listening, please hit us up either email or all the other different ways you can hit us up and tell us what that was. Cause I can't remember.
[00:14:52] Well, he left early.
[00:14:54] Yeah. It's a world war one biplane. Yes. By the way.
[00:14:57] I thought it was, yeah, you're right. So I was planning on going down and talking to him before we took off. I think it was, was it Friday?
[00:15:05] We left.
[00:15:06] Well, we left Saturday, but yeah. So I think Friday is when I went down and I was walking in line or something and he was all packed up and completely gone. So I was hoping to remember what it was, but I have no idea.
[00:15:18] John, if you're listening, hit us up, let us know what that was. And thanks again, by the way, for all the, the hospitality, letting us, offering to let us sit in your, your easy up at the line.
[00:15:27] Yeah. It was a lot of fun. It was. Wish I could remember the name of that plane. It's going to bug me. We'll get it one of these days. Yeah. other thing that I thought was kind of cool was meeting, and recording with Lee and Fitz from the RC round table.
[00:15:39] Yeah, that was neat. That was a lot of fun. It was, sad that it was only two thirds of each of us. Yeah. I, I was, I was telling you about it. I think it was the day after we've recorded with them. I was so tired. I was, I was not sharp. Yeah. I mean, so I, like, I don't even remember half of the conversations that we had, but I'm sure I've sounded like an idiot more so than usual. because I was not sharp. I was so tired and just a zombie.
[00:16:09] I think there was enough going on that you didn't have to think too much for the conversation you were, you were having.
[00:16:14] Well, I remember vaguely almost getting taken out by a radiant. I think it was.
[00:16:18] That was a lot closer than I was comfortable with, to be honest. I mean, honestly, it couldn't have been more than 10 feet from, cause you, you were closest to the field. Yeah. But I had my back sitting with your back to where it was and it could not have been more than 10 feet. Like honestly. Wow. I mean, it was. Well, I had the headphones on, so I didn't hear it either. Well, it's a radiance. There's not a lot of noise that comes with it either.
[00:16:42] But you, I mean, you saw, like, as I said something, you turned around. You saw how close it was while it was still flying away. Yeah. Right. So yeah, he looped it several times and then dove it right into the ground. So I have no clue what happened. See, I was almost wondering, like having one of those airplanes, I know that the, the tail, the horizontal stab is held on with tape. Tape. Right. So if he didn't tape it well enough. Yeah.
[00:17:05] Or if it slid a little bit, maybe that's what was causing his issues of not having the throws. Or to where all he had was, like full up elevator cause he was just looping almost constantly.
[00:17:14] Did you want to take this opportunity to talk about crashes, segue into crashes or you want to move on down the list?
[00:17:19] I, I'm going to confuse myself if we don't move on down our list because. All right. I will not remember. Crashes are coming. I promise. I will not remember anything else if I don't, follow our outline. speaking of which, what else, what are we at? John's big biplane. We talked about that. Yeah. And then lean fits. That was good. So we camped at the 3d line.
[00:17:41] Yes.
[00:17:42] Like Jeff got us set up back that way. I think like, I don't know what the other places would be like, but I was absolutely happy to where we were.
[00:17:51] I know where I would not want to camp.
[00:17:54] I think I agree with that. Yeah.
[00:17:55] That's along the road there along the, the electric and the electric 3d lines. It gets pretty dusty when it gets hot and dry.
[00:18:03] Yeah.
[00:18:03] A lot of traffic on that road. So it really kicks up a lot of dust. So yeah.
[00:18:07] So we, the first few days we were there, we didn't have any rain. Like it obviously had rained before we got. Right. and yeah, the amount of dust. So I don't know if there's premium spots over there or where they are. I didn't really pay much attention.
[00:18:22] Yeah.
[00:18:23] Yeah. But right.
[00:18:24] I don't think there is. You're talking about along the electric line.
[00:18:27] Yeah. I don't, I don't remember seeing the boxes. That doesn't mean they're not there, but yeah. Or that I just didn't see them. Right. but anyway, so that got so much dust from people driving back and forth because that road, like it's only wide enough for pretty much a vehicle. Yeah. And anytime you pass somebody, you have to go off the road in order to keep it, or in order to have room for both of you. Yep.
[00:18:50] And so all of that mud and dust and stuff was just going everywhere. Like the campers that were parked there were covered with dust. With the dust. Yeah. So, and I don't know how bad it would be if you were a row or two back cause they had Yeah. Like another rose kind of thing. Yeah.
[00:19:04] Some of the areas there, they were deep enough to have another area behind them. So yeah, maybe the dust didn't travel that far, but.
[00:19:11] Maybe it was okay there, but. Yeah. I really liked where we were at. I liked the sound of where we were at. Yeah. It was constant. Yeah. Just the hovering, or not nitro, the hovering gasoline engine sound. Yeah. And the jets. And the jets. Yeah. There were hovering jets there too. Which was cool. They weren't, they didn't fly as much. No. But they flew a good amount. Yeah. Yeah. But it was, it was constant with the, like the DA-120. Yeah.
[00:19:35] I mean, I would. Oopsie. Cool.
[00:19:37] That was loud.
[00:19:37] I would be interested in seeing what camping would be like along maybe some of the other areas, like around the pond where we were doing the float line.
[00:19:45] Yeah.
[00:19:46] I think that might be a good spot too, but where we were at, I have no complaints.
[00:19:50] Yeah.
[00:19:50] Not really. So. We're so close to the showers and the bathrooms too. That was nice.
[00:19:54] We were pretty much within a walking distance of our facilities.
[00:19:58] Yes.
[00:19:59] But like, we had a long drive to get where we were going when we went over to the, like the float line.
[00:20:05] Yeah. When you say long drive, it says long ride on a golf cart.
[00:20:08] Well, but it's still, so.
[00:20:09] It is.
[00:20:10] It adds up. Like.
[00:20:11] What is the, the distance you remember?
[00:20:13] Well, so you checked it on, I think he's your, your watch. My watch. Whatever. And from our doorstep to where we were flying on the float line was a little over 1.1 miles.
[00:20:24] Yeah.
[00:20:24] So double that as a, two and a quarter mile round trip. Yep. And that's not counting like going farther up to the main line or going to different places there. Right. So I would say, honestly, conservatively, probably 120 ish miles. Total on the golf cart. Is what we drove on the golf cart last week. In a week's time. That's, that's a lot of miles. Because I, yeah.
[00:20:48] Yeah.
[00:20:50] Because that last day that we were there that Friday, we made quite a bit of trips. I think it was over 30 miles just in that one. Just in that day. One day. So, yeah. Yeah. I mean, definitely over a hundred and, or definitely over a hundred miles.
[00:21:01] Well, and imagine if we, imagine if we had days with no rain, it'd be even more. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Because Thursday, we didn't really do much of anything. We didn't go anywhere. So, yeah. That's, it's a, it's a huge, like, if you don't know what the facility looks like, it's, it's absolutely enormous. Yeah.
[00:21:19] That's it. And I'm hoping by the time this goes up, this episode goes live, that I will have a video posted on YouTube with, like, I literally just put the GoPro on the golf cart and just drove it. Like, originally I was going to do that just so when I got home, Crystal could see what it was like and all that stuff. And it's like, well. That's a good idea, actually. Why not just post it? That way you can have other people see. That's a good idea.
[00:21:41] Yeah. You'll, you'll get to see all of the flight lines, all five of them. Well, six, if you count the helicopter line, right? Do you count the helicopter line? Well, we beat up the heli guys. I know. I'm joking. But that night show that, that, that one guy really, really did put on a, I don't even know who it was, but a 3D demonstration with lights on the, on the helicopter. It was really impressive.
[00:22:03] Yeah. Lights on the blades. It was pretty good. I don't know how, well, any of the 3D guys don't crash.
[00:22:07] Yeah.
[00:22:08] Right. Heli or airplanes. Or airplanes. Yeah. So, but yeah.
[00:22:13] Do you want to talk about float flying?
[00:22:15] Yeah. Talk about float flying.
[00:22:16] So Ron's first experience on floats and my, pretty much my first experience on floats because I, I did it once many, many years ago and didn't know what I was doing.
[00:22:25] And to be honest, I don't even remember the technique or anything.
[00:22:28] So it was kind of new to both of us. and of course I converted the old stick, put the Goldberg cub floats on it and it performed beautifully. And you flew the twin otter, which also flew beautifully.
[00:22:42] It did. Like I bought that plane just to take care because everybody said that we talked to, you need to have a plane on floats.
[00:22:51] And they're not wrong.
[00:22:52] Absolutely correct. Yeah. Like I am so glad cause that wasn't a very expensive plane and it flies.
[00:22:59] All things considered.
[00:23:00] Yeah. It flies very, very well. And it came with floats and gear. Yeah. And lights. How could you not be happy with it?
[00:23:07] At dusk, that plane is, is so neat. Yeah. At dusk with the, the lights and the leading edges of the wing and then the tip lights. Yeah. It looks really, really good.
[00:23:16] I will admit there was one time, one time where it was getting dark and I was flying it and I thought I was coming towards me and I went to bank left and the plane banked right. And I was like, hold on. Wait a minute. That's a bad thing. That must mean it's not coming towards me. So I, a little pucker factor and then make a turn that I thought I was turning away from me at that point. Yeah. Even though it was coming towards me and then everything was just fine. Yeah.
[00:23:46] And I was done for the night.
[00:23:48] Yeah. Then, yep. Called it a night. You did not require the boat of shame though. I'm so proud of myself. Yep.
[00:23:54] You did a good job. Somebody else didn't.
[00:23:56] Well, I was in the boat of shame twice. So on the float, go ahead.
[00:24:01] Well, tell the story about the first time you went out cause that wasn't a big deal. But honestly, when you had to go out to retrieve your stick, I didn't get to see that because that was when the, the Blue Angels F-18 actual jet was flying. So I was over watching that and then I turned around just in time to see you in the boat. And I was like, is he going to get somebody else's plane again? And I saw the stick upside down. Yeah.
[00:24:26] So the first, so let me start by saying at the float line, there is a boat there for retrieving wayward airplanes. and it is actually officially called the boat of shame.
[00:24:39] It actually has that written on the side of the boat, the boat of shame. And then a duck on the back. I don't get the duck, but that's okay. But that's okay.
[00:24:47] So yeah, the first trip was, to help, I believe it was Jeff. he over… Oh, listen to you calling people out. He overturned one. Well, I didn't say which Jeff. There's, how many Jeffs were there?
[00:24:58] Oh, that's okay. Yeah.
[00:24:59] So anyway, went out there to retrieve, to retrieve his, which, I think it was pretty much the same thing that happened to mine. got a little bit of wind and got one of the floats and flipped it over. So yeah, a little bit later, I think it was a couple of days later, I had to take a trip out of the boat of shame for my own airplane, which it's funny because it was kind of windy that day.
[00:25:20] So yeah, the airplane flipped over and of course it's balsa, so it just floats on top of the water. And the wind actually pushed my plane back to shore before I could actually reach it with the boat of shame. So technically I didn't even need to get in the boat of shame because I never put an airplane in it that second trip.
[00:25:37] No, but I do have pictures of your airplane upside down and then you in the boat of shame. Yeah. Oh yeah.
[00:25:42] You had, you went out there because of that. Yes. Oh, for sure. But, I didn't know what I'm getting at is I didn't really need to get in it because the wind finally blew it to the shore. And I think Tom, Rhode Island guy grabbed it for me.
[00:25:54] Was it Tom? I don't know. It might've been Jeff. I don't remember who was out there.
[00:25:57] Well, it was somebody out there along the shoreline with you. Yeah. And you, it was nice of you to offer to help, but you were too busy taking pictures with, with your camera.
[00:26:05] I carried it. What else did I take pictures with by the way? But I carried it back part of the way. Part of the way. Part of the way. After you got the shots you needed. After I got them to prove what happened.
[00:26:17] But I mean, it happens a lot. Yeah. That very thing, you catch the tip of a float, you get the wings not level, too close to the water, it'll grab the float and just flips it right over before you even have a chance to react.
[00:26:29] And see that, that I didn't have anything that scared me. Mm hmm. Like I didn't have any times that I was concerned about that happening. Mm hmm. So I don't know if it's just like the little foam ones float better. Cause that, my plane is so much lighter. Oh yeah. So much smaller. So I don't know if it had to do with the fact that it was floating better than yours was or higher to where the, the floats weren't like kind of digging it.
[00:26:55] Like, I don't know what made it different, but I never even thought about going upside down with it. Yeah. So I was lucky in that regard. Yeah. But we did a lot of touch and goes. Oh yeah. And that's a lot of fun.
[00:27:08] Seeing how smooth you can get it on the back on the water without bouncing it or.
[00:27:12] And then sometimes not.
[00:27:13] And then sometimes just not.
[00:27:15] Yeah. And then you want to not admit that that was you. Right. Somebody else did that one. Well, that was three touch and goes at once. Yeah. Yeah. I, I had a few not so pretty landings, but, the, like I said, to me, a perfect landing is just so fun to do and watch. Yeah. That's worth practicing and having some not so good ones in order to learn how to do it.
[00:27:36] Well, fortunately the stick is big enough. It's, it's easy to see. Yeah. It's just physically bigger. Yeah. So watching the rudders on the floats, just, just enter the water before the airplane. It was just so cool.
[00:27:48] I like the, the, when you took off and took pictures, you could see the, the water coming off of it and falling back down into the lake. I thought that was neat. That's pretty cool. So I, I've got a bunch of pictures that I'm hopefully by the time this comes out too, I plan on having on our website. Cool. So a bunch of pictures of what we saw, what we did, all that kind of stuff. so if you guys want to see pictures, I hope it's done. Go take a look. Yeah.
[00:28:17] That gives me some time.
[00:28:18] Ron took a lot of pictures.
[00:28:20] I'm not going to post them all because a lot of them are, the same thing, seven, eight pictures in a row. Cause you want to make sure you get the right shot. Yeah. So there's a lot I got to go through and delete, but yeah, it was multiple thousands of pictures.
[00:28:33] I didn't take so many. I think about 150 is all I ended up with. Oh my God. Well, I, yeah, I just get so wrapped up in what I'm watching. It doesn't even occur to me to whip out my phone. And besides that, the camera on my phone is not great anyway. So it's not nearly as good as yours.
[00:28:46] Well, that's why I got the new phone to be honest. Yeah. Cause I'm glad you did.
[00:28:50] Cause it takes fantastic pictures.
[00:28:51] I, one thing for next year I want to remember is to take more video. I took a lot of pictures, but I think a little bit more video would be handy.
[00:28:58] I took some video. Maybe I'll send them to you and you can put them up if they're good enough.
[00:29:02] We'll see what they are.
[00:29:03] But yeah. So, so talking about the float flying, this was going to come later in the episode, but, I'll go ahead and hit it now. Nitro plane. I'm a nitro guy. Everybody that listens to the show and listens to it regularly knows that I'm the nitro guy and I'm a diehard. Next year, I'm not going to take a nitro plane. the reason there's really not other than the float pond, there's really nowhere to fly them unless it's huge.
[00:29:31] But even then, when you're, when you're stepping over, $25,000 jets to get to your, $500 telemaster or whatever, it, it makes, it kind of puts me in my place. I, I, I didn't, I wasn't nervous, we're going to get to this later too, but I wasn't, we can talk about that now if you want.
[00:29:53] I wasn't nervous flying on the main line, but I, there's definitely like a, I don't want to say pecking order, but there kind of is like, the, you get in line and the marshals, air marshals or the field marshals, whatever they call them, are very good about, making sure you get your turn.
[00:30:10] Right. But, I don't want to hold up somebody, a team guy, let's say, who wants to put on a show for potential customers, just so I could go out there and fly my nitro plane and fix that, scratch that itch when I can do it in other locations.
[00:30:27] So there's nowhere else you could fly nitro. You could fly nitro on a 3d line, but I'm, I don't know too many guys flying 3d with nitro. so, and obviously the electric line and the electric 3d line is electric only. so yeah, I, I probably won't, if I don't take the stick out, I won't take anything else that's nitro next time. Does that make sense?
[00:30:51] Yeah. I, I'm kind of surprised to hear you say that. Like when you're talking about not being, not feeling like you fit in with those kinds of airplanes on the main line. So like to me, I, the, okay. So you, you threw me when you said like a team guy trying to fly something to sell something. And to me, I don't care about that. They have their noontime demos. They can do whatever they want where it's actually closed down for them to schedule that. Right.
[00:31:19] Like I'm not worried about them as much as just the guys that are out with their big, fancy, expensive stuff that really that line, I guess, technically isn't made for, but that's kind of where they all go. Cause that's the only place they can fly too. Right. Right. So I, I'm, I'm just surprised the way you put that, I think it kind of threw me off. Like I'm more apt. I don't want to say know my place because that's not what it is, but like certain planes.
[00:31:51] Okay. When we were up there, we had the most not good looking planes that were there. Let's be honest. They were cool, but they did not meet the level of the other planes that they were sitting with. Would you concur?
[00:32:06] I mean, they were on the lower end of the spectrum. Yes. Lowest. There were some planes there that were not pretty. I mean, there were some smaller planes on the main line that were, in my opinion.
[00:32:22] Other than the three that we had.
[00:32:24] Other than the three we're talking about. Yeah. There was a few others that I looked at. I was like, oh, see, I mean, good for him or her. what I mean?
[00:32:32] Maybe I didn't even notice them then because they were just not grabbing my eye. It's a tension.
[00:32:37] Yeah. There was a couple of others that two or three that I could think of that were, kind of at our level. what I mean?
[00:32:48] Okay.
[00:32:48] But no, I guess what I'm trying to say is it's not that it's not that I didn't feel like I didn't deserve to fly on the main line. That's not what I'm trying to say. What I'm trying to say is if I had taken my stick up there. Well, number one, it's not big enough. But let's say I had an 80-inch nitro-powered stick. I probably wouldn't fly it on the main line just because, yeah, I don't want to get in anybody's way.
[00:33:18] The big telemaster, I didn't feel that way because there was one or two other airplanes in the air at the same time at about the same speed.
[00:33:27] Indeed. So we flew with Jeff and his telemaster. He has an electric telemaster, the same eight-foot size that we have. Yep. And then we flew with Lee and Plywood Overcast.
[00:33:36] Right. Yeah, the three of us flew together on the main line. And he was definitely the slowest. Yeah. And I had a blast. Like, that was fun. That was a lot of fun to watch. But we, for a brief, for a minute or two, we almost had the flight line to ourselves. And then a little bit later, a couple of jets took off and some other big ones. And even then, since the three of us were out there kind of first, I felt like it was their job to get around us.
[00:34:01] We were the slower, kind of like the pedestrians in the crosswalk, right? Right. It's up to someone else to get around us because we're in the crosswalk.
[00:34:09] We're the slow things that can't really get out of our own way. It's up to them to fly around us.
[00:34:14] But we, we were, we established a pattern. We've kind of stuck to our pattern. We didn't do anything silly right over the runway. Yeah. So in that regard, I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. But if it was just me out there alone with like an 80-inch nitro-powered stick, boring holes in the sky, that's, I wouldn't feel that that's where I should do that.
[00:34:35] And to be honest, like, I wish I was better at putting into words how I feel about it. Because nobody that I saw when I was around up there, nobody made me feel that way. Oh, no. Like there was not a single person that I heard. Absolutely not. It's all self-inflicted. Yeah. Yeah. But it was really cool to actually see the main line. Like, that's such an iconic picture. what that looks like. I'm watching so many YouTube videos and all that. Right.
[00:35:05] To actually be there and experience it and see our airplane fly was kind of surreal and kind of cool.
[00:35:10] It was fun.
[00:35:11] It was.
[00:35:12] And then I had to mess it all up on the landing.
[00:35:14] Golly, what an idiot. I love that.
[00:35:16] I'm sure you did.
[00:35:17] I did. Mr. Perfect Everything.
[00:35:21] I'm not Mr. Perfect Everything.
[00:35:22] I know, but.
[00:35:24] But I did. I really, really botched the landing. And it's on video, which is awesome. So you should post that.
[00:35:28] I got to try and find that. Yeah. I haven't downloaded that one yet. But. Broke the propeller. What did you do? Dang it.
[00:35:34] Well, so it's. So the flight line is huge. Yeah. I mean, to be fair, it's a huge. So I set up the base to final like about five miles away. It feels like now looking back. You were a regi flight. I was way the heck. Well, I didn't want to do something dumb and like stall it. you're trying to do a short final or something stupid like that. Yeah. But the telemaster is not going to stall. But anyway, and the flight line is sort of the runway kind of runs.
[00:36:05] So as you're standing at the at the pilot station to your right, the runway, it's a it's a full scale runway, by the way. This is like an actual airstrip grass, but it's like weird AstroTurf grass. I don't know what it's almost like golf green grass. I mean, it's real grass.
[00:36:20] Yeah.
[00:36:21] But very, very smooth. And I mean, it's like it's perfect.
[00:36:25] Yeah.
[00:36:25] As far as grass.
[00:36:26] Exactly. It's perfect.
[00:36:28] But it's not level. It sort of runs downhill if you look off to your right. So we were flying a right hand pattern. So I'm, flying, coming across, making a right turn and make another right turn and so on and so forth. And yeah, I've set up the final so far away and there's so much other noise going on. I can't really hear how much I mean, I know how much throttle I'm giving it on the transmitter. Right.
[00:36:51] But I can't hear the engine over all the other jet noise mostly. Yeah. That was going on. So I didn't really I didn't want to get it too slow and stall it. So I just wanted to get it on the ground and get out of everybody's way because I think Jeff was already down. And I know, no, Lee, I think was still flying because I think he was still doing a he was still doing part. Anyway, doesn't matter.
[00:37:14] I just wanted to get it down, get it out of the way and get it behind me because, it was fun, but it was a little stressful. So, yeah, I'm lining up to final and I'm way far away and the runway is sloping down away. So that that reference, that that depth perception is weird because, the runway is falling away. So I do my best to set up a nice, easy glide and it it it touches down, which I was expecting, but it bounced back up and it surprised me.
[00:37:45] Well, then I I think I forgot to flare. So it came down, bounced again and hit the hit the propeller. And that was that. I mean, that didn't break anything else.
[00:37:53] It didn't bend the gear or nothing.
[00:37:55] It didn't hit hard. It just it was nose down enough to where the propeller hit the ground and nose down enough.
[00:38:00] And then the wheels I have on it are probably squishy, balloony enough to where when you hit hard, they give a lot more than like a phone one would.
[00:38:08] Yeah, I wouldn't say it hit hard. Of course, I only watched the video once, so I need to watch it a couple more times. But yeah, I wouldn't profit if it had been a master airscrew or an APC probably wouldn't have even broke the prop, honestly.
[00:38:21] Yeah, but what looks cool. Yeah.
[00:38:23] What an idiot. But in front of God and everybody, I, I've set the telemaster down a little bit too hard or nose low and broke the prop.
[00:38:32] Yeah, glad it wasn't me. Yeah, I was so embarrassed. And then we had to run out on the. When you say we. Well, I went back out to get the propeller piece. No, I grabbed the propeller. Okay, well, I started to go out there. Did you really?
[00:38:45] I did. Yeah, I brought the airplane in.
[00:38:47] Maybe you handed the airplane halfway back up to me and I grabbed that then. Maybe.
[00:38:52] But I ran out to grab the propeller because I didn't want anybody to run over that.
[00:38:55] Yeah. Well, because I didn't know what was going on at first. I just saw you land and I was looking around at other stuff. And then I see you out on the field. I was like, what is he? And I saw the propeller. I was like, oh, oh, he doinked it.
[00:39:06] That I did.
[00:39:09] But that was really. For us, that was the only negative aspect to flying that whole week.
[00:39:15] Yeah. Yeah. Even turning mine upside down on the pond turned out to be a no issue.
[00:39:19] Yeah.
[00:39:20] Yeah. We grabbed it. I fired it back up and flew again.
[00:39:23] Yeah. It was not a big deal. And it's dried out now. It's pretty good. I've got the regular gear back on it now. Oh, did you put it on already? No way, but yeah. Quick. So what else did we fly? Like, I know I flew the night radiant a couple times.
[00:39:35] Yeah. Yeah.
[00:39:36] And the shiny.
[00:39:38] Yeah. I was going to say, we did some night flying, which was fun.
[00:39:40] Happy to see the shiny back.
[00:39:42] Yeah.
[00:39:42] Me too. That flight is so good. It's so bright, too. Yeah, I know.
[00:39:45] When it's up close, it's really bright.
[00:39:47] It's blindingly bright. Yes. Like, that's why I usually don't turn it on until right before I throw it. Yeah. Like, because the switch isn't a perfect spot for that. It's on the left-hand side of the fuselage underneath the wing. So as you're holding it, ready to throw it, that's right at thumb height. Yeah. And you can just flip it and turn the lights on, close your eyes. Close your eyes, yeah. And throw it in the air.
[00:40:07] But yeah, you did, you flew the radiant and the shiny. I flew the E-streak at night for the first time.
[00:40:14] Yeah.
[00:40:14] Only with half the lights, because I forgot the Y-harness to be able to plug in the fuselage. But it was enough. I had no problem seeing it. And I flew the E-streak many more times, too, the following day or the day after.
[00:40:28] Yeah. The days all run together. It all runs together.
[00:40:32] But yeah, we did. For an event like that, I feel like we did a fair amount of flying.
[00:40:37] One thing I want to bring up, though, is so, I have the Spectrum G2 batteries and the charger that I specifically brought, well, bought and brought. So I would have something to be able to charge a little bit faster. Yeah. Crazy. I mean, they work so well. Like, literally. And we were flying the batteries down to, when I put it on the charger, anywhere between 30% and 50%. That was about a, what were we doing, six, seven minutes or so?
[00:41:07] Well, there were more towards 50% when you would fly, and there would be more towards 30% when I would fly it.
[00:41:13] Not necessarily. Because I put some on that were 35%. Oh, okay. Because it's all about how fast you're flying, like how much you're actually using throttle-wise. But anyway.
[00:41:23] Or how long you go past your timer.
[00:41:25] Well, and that timer's built in to have enough time, just in case. I think it's, I don't even remember what it was, it doesn't matter. But anyway, so, charging those batteries, we were getting full charges on them from 30% to 50% in less than 10 minutes.
[00:41:40] Crazy.
[00:41:41] I mean, two batteries would have been plenty. Plenty. Having four was about useless, because you just. You couldn't use them. No.
[00:41:49] You'd be tired of flying if you just kept recharging all those four batteries.
[00:41:54] If you did that, you could literally fly all day straight with two batteries. Well, let's say three if you want to fly straight. Yeah. But yeah. Those worked out really well.
[00:42:02] That's very, very impressive how quickly they charge. What is it? It dumps like 20 amps in them right at first or something like that?
[00:42:09] No, no, no. So the 3S 2200s were charging at 11 amps. 11, still. Yeah. It'll go up to 20, 25 on different batteries. But with the G2 batteries, like I said, you can charge, I think, at 5S or 5C. So yeah, 11 amps is what I was putting in it. And it finishes them. I'm happy with it. Well, sure.
[00:42:31] Yeah, you should be.
[00:42:32] I think eight minutes was about the average.
[00:42:35] Yeah. Because there were some that were finished in seven minutes, and I'm like, come on. It feels like you flew longer than that.
[00:42:41] It was almost a one-to-one. Yeah.
[00:42:43] Yeah, it really was. Which is kudos to Spectrum and their smart technology. I'm happy with it. Yeah, that's pretty cool.
[00:42:51] What else? What else did we fly? That was about it.
[00:42:54] Yeah, we flew everything we took minus my little Mustang.
[00:42:57] That's not true. I didn't fly the Ultrix or the UMX Ultrix. Oh, that's right. I flew mine. Why didn't you fly yours? Time ran out.
[00:43:07] Well, but I mean, why didn't you fly yours when I flew mine? You brought it with you, didn't you?
[00:43:10] I don't like flying that at night-night. Oh. And that was night-night. Yeah, it was dark. Like, that's a dusk flyer for me just because I'd lose orientation pretty easy on that one. Yeah. But it was definitely just, I forgot. I don't want to say forgot. Because, like, I literally would think about it, and I want to go do that. Something would come up, and then you kind of remember it later, and then it's dark. Yeah.
[00:43:36] And then the next day it starts over, and the same thing just went on and on and on. And time does not exist there, I swear. It's strange.
[00:43:43] Like, that first day, it seemed like the longest day ever. Probably because, I was still kind of a zombie. But, like, the days after that, they just progressively felt like they were getting shorter and shorter because we're packing so much in each day.
[00:43:57] I think so, too. And you were getting, I was getting more comfortable being there and stuff. It felt more like home as the week went on. Imagine what it's going to feel like next year. I hope that feeling starts from the beginning.
[00:44:09] Right from the beginning.
[00:44:10] Like, knowing what we know now, knowing what to expect, I'm, yeah. Like, I'm excited already. I am, too.
[00:44:20] Only 362 more days.
[00:44:25] Well, that would mean that that was four days ago.
[00:44:28] Well, that's when we came home, right?
[00:44:30] Yeah, you want to count down to when we came home? So, 350-something, yeah.
[00:44:35] Either way, looking forward to it already. Me, too. Oh, wait, do you want to talk about the other thing I tried to fly several times?
[00:44:42] Yeah, I was thinking that. You bought an airplane. By the way, I did not buy an airplane. You did.
[00:44:46] That's true. I did. So, the Rhode Island guys, they bought these flying wings from Mikey while we were there. And that looked like a good time. So, I joined in the fun, and I bought one, too. And between the five of us, because four of them bought them, right? Three or four of the Rhode Island guys bought one, and I bought one also, because it looked like such fun watching other people try to fly them. Yeah, I bought one, and I was unsuccessful in flying it on three attempts.
[00:45:23] Yeah.
[00:45:24] There's a technique to launching those silly things.
[00:45:27] I think you got much happier, by the way, after you decided just to leave it until you got home.
[00:45:31] Yes, I did. Once I decided, yeah, once I decided I was not going to learn how to learn my launch technique until I'm someplace comfortable where there's nobody watching. Yeah.
[00:45:42] Well, let me know when you're there. I want to watch.
[00:45:44] Well, it'll be six months or so, probably.
[00:45:47] But there were a lot of guys flying wings, especially at night.
[00:45:53] Yeah. And that's why I want it, because the one I bought, me, I'm a patriot. This one's red, white, and blue, and it's got red, white, and blue LEDs all over it, and it has red LEDs on the left, and green ones on the right. Yeah, it's patriotic, and just right up my alley. And, yeah, unfortunately, I attempted to fly it three times and broke it three times.
[00:46:15] Well, in those three flights, you got a good second and a half out of it.
[00:46:18] Yeah. If that. I'm not sure I even got a full second out of it, to be honest.
[00:46:24] Yeah. It looked like you threw them pretty much right into the ground.
[00:46:27] That's what it looked like, yeah, according to the video. But, anyway, yeah, it survived. It's in one piece right now, so I'll definitely take it next year. Hopefully with some practice beforehand.
[00:46:39] Yeah. And that is one thing I will say. Those little pusher wings are very durable.
[00:46:45] Yeah.
[00:46:45] For sure. Like, you had issues with ESCs, getting one that worked. Yeah. But I don't think that was from the design of the plane. No, absolutely not. I mean, like, those bounce and get thrown right back up.
[00:46:56] Yeah, I mean, I can't tell you how many times I saw one or two guys, attempt to launch it, fail. Attempt to launch it, fail. Like, right at, and then finally get it right. Like, after three failed attempts, three crashes, let's call it.
[00:47:08] Yeah.
[00:47:09] And off it goes. Yeah, they're very durable. They bounce quite high, too, when you go in nose first.
[00:47:15] That might be something I would be interested in trying to.
[00:47:18] Yeah. I think there's other ones that might be better suited, like something with safe, maybe, that helps with the launch.
[00:47:26] No, like, I actually wouldn't mind learning the technique. All right.
[00:47:30] I'm going to figure it out.
[00:47:31] Yeah. It doesn't look, I think that's the problem. Like, it doesn't look difficult. So, after watching so many people do it, in my mind, I know what needs to be done. But that doesn't mean I can do it.
[00:47:42] Yeah.
[00:47:42] That doesn't mean I've practiced enough to get done.
[00:47:44] Because I thought I had watched enough, too. Yeah. No, there's definitely a technique that needs to be mastered. Yeah. And I will, eventually.
[00:47:51] But, yeah, I bought an airplane. It was not very expensive.
[00:47:54] It was less than, I think it was less than 150. And it was all ready to go. It had all the electronics and stuff in it.
[00:47:59] Yeah.
[00:48:00] But, yeah, we'll get it mastered and then fly at night with that thing. It's just screaming with those tiny little propellers.
[00:48:08] Man, they sound so cool. They sound like an angry something or another. Yeah, I was thinking B, but.
[00:48:13] Yeah, you did not buy an airplane. No. Do you want to talk about stuff you bought?
[00:48:16] Well, I can't.
[00:48:18] Okay. I only, well, yeah, it's because, like I said, I don't want. Yeah. To, yeah.
[00:48:23] Well, but that's part of the hobby. Like, buying things is part of the hobby. It is. And we do it. So, I think it's okay to talk about. I don't, like, I think, I only remember two things that I bought. Is that? So, I bought the 20 channel safe, not safe, the power safe receiver. Right?
[00:48:39] Yeah.
[00:48:40] And then I finally made the plunge. Horizon had some really good deals going on while we were there.
[00:48:45] They did.
[00:48:45] And I bought the iX-20 SE. So, I'm very happy.
[00:48:49] Yeah.
[00:48:50] That I have a new radio to go with my new jet whenever that comes in. Yeah.
[00:48:54] I'm happy for you. That's a beautiful radio. You let me actually fly your twin otter with it. And, man, that thing does feel nice.
[00:49:02] It has. So, honestly, I, before we went down or went over there, I had never, or never even held one. But Jeff has an iX-20. And so, I was playing around with it, kind of feeling, because it's longer than I'm used to. It's a little taller. So, I wasn't sure if that was going to be awkward. But it actually fits really well in your hands. Like, I didn't think anything about it once I started actually holding it and using it.
[00:49:28] So, his was actually the first iX-20 I'd ever held. And he said he liked it and all that kind of stuff. So, when I saw they had the sales, I was…
[00:49:40] And it was a significant, like, significant savings.
[00:49:43] Yeah.
[00:49:44] Because, I mean…
[00:49:45] About 20% off.
[00:49:47] Yeah. Yeah.
[00:49:48] It was… Is that… Yeah, it was about 20% off.
[00:49:51] It was very… Like, not only did they have it discounted quite a bit. you don't pay shipping or the… No tax. Yeah, none of that. So…
[00:49:59] All built into the price. Yeah. But, so, one of the things that drew me… Because I was thinking about the iX-14 also. Like, that's the newest radio they have out. Doesn't mean it's the best. But 14 channels should be enough for about anything I can think of that I would need to do…. But, like, honestly, the case that comes with the iX-14…
[00:50:18] Yeah, it's a turn-off.
[00:50:19] Is…
[00:50:20] To me, it's a turn-off.
[00:50:21] To me, it's… I don't want to say junk, but it's not a good case.
[00:50:25] I mean, I'm sure it protects the transmitter, which is what it's designed to do, but I really like the iX-12 case that my radio came in. I do, too. The nice hard aluminum case. And your iX-20 came with that times two.
[00:50:36] Well, so the iX-20… The 20 itself, like, just the plain 20 comes with a single case. Oh, I gotcha. When you get the SE, it comes with the dual case that will hold two radios. So I've got my iX-12 in that one now also, which is nice because if you go anywhere and you want to do a buddy box or anything like that, you have both of your radios there. They're easy to set up. And they're both protected.
[00:50:59] And you can just grab one case and have them all together.
[00:51:02] And there's room in there for tools and all that kind of stuff, too. So they did a really good job with it. And like I said, so far, which I've only flown 10 flights with it now, I really like that radio.
[00:51:12] It just feels solid.
[00:51:13] Like, it feels good. It's quick. Like, compared to the iX-12, it is very fast. Yeah.
[00:51:19] Switching models is like three seconds, if that.
[00:51:22] Oh, yeah. It's quick. As opposed to the 12, which was 30 seconds or whatever it ended up taking.
[00:51:27] Which I just want to comment. My iX-12 performed flawlessly the whole week. I was very happy with my radio. As some of the listeners may remember, I'm not a huge fan of my particular iX-12 because it was so slow and laggy. And you go from screen to screen. And there's delays. And I had zero of those issues at Joe Knoll. So I don't know if it's because it's trying to connect to a Wi-Fi here at the house or download updates. I turned all that stuff off.
[00:51:57] I watched the YouTube videos on how to do it because I'm, me. But yeah, Joe Knoll, man, it performed flawlessly. I had no issues other than the slow boot time, which I think that's just the way it is.
[00:52:12] It's the other thing that…
[00:52:13] It wasn't that much slower than yours, to be honest, your iX-12. Right. we started to remember at the same time and they both kind of came up about the same time, so…
[00:52:21] Which I'm used to that, so that one didn't bother me, but… Still fun to make fun of it, but… I know. But like, so with yours, do you ever notice an issue at our field?
[00:52:34] If I've noticed an issue there, it's not as big an issue as it is at the house.
[00:52:40] Like, I don't have any negative memories of it at the field. It's not stood out to you being slow. Yeah.
[00:52:45] No, it's just always here at the house, it seems like.
[00:52:48] Yeah, it's probably something to do with updates.
[00:52:50] I'm sure there's a setting somewhere that I have, skipped over, but I know that I… Anyway, I just wanted to say, my iX-12, I'm very happy with it at Joe Knoll.
[00:53:02] And like I said, there was nothing wrong with mine either. Like, that's been a good radio, but…… You have a better one. I should not have to upgrade radios for many, many years now.
[00:53:12] Yeah, that one should be, that one should be good for a while.
[00:53:16] I was just thinking that, because when, what was it? I ended up, I ended up looking at the, the video that we shot and took of the trash can telemaster.
[00:53:29] Okay.
[00:53:30] And I didn't realize that was still with my DX8. Yeah. So I don't think I've had that iX-12 all that long.
[00:53:36] Mm-mm. Well, no, you bought it in Decatur last year.
[00:53:39] It was just last year? I don't know why I thought I had that. Yeah, not this year, but last year. Like, if, if you would have asked me how long have you had this beforehand, I probably would have said, oh, three or four years, easy. Mm-mm. It doesn't seem like it's not… You bought it at last year's, not 2022 Decatur.
[00:53:51] So it's not been two years? Yeah. Okay. Not yet.
[00:53:55] That just doesn't seem…
[00:53:57] From a DX8 to an iX20 SE in less than two years. That's pretty good.
[00:54:04] Well, yeah. Well, I mean…
[00:54:07] But that's not all you bought, by the way. You bought the receiver and you bought the transmitter. That's not all you bought at Joe Nall.
[00:54:14] Please remind me, because I don't remember what… I can't believe you don't remember this. I'm going to be excited, I hope.
[00:54:19] The airplane stand chair combo.
[00:54:22] Oh, yeah, that's okay. We all got one. Are you kidding me? Yeah, I'm not all that excited about that. Did you see me use my…
[00:54:27] Like, I bought one, too. Did you see me when I was using it to take the telemaster apart? Did you see how… No, I didn't see that at all….convenient that was? No. Dude.
[00:54:36] So tell what it is. Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot about that.
[00:54:38] So, yeah, Sullivan… Well, I don't know if that was actually the Sullivan company, but there was a… No, it wasn't. A hobby shop, let's say, there. And they were selling these chairs, these camping chairs. They're almost like a hammock kind of a thing. Yeah. There's,… Anyway, but you can take the chair fabric part of it off and put these 3D printed deals that are… Doohickeys. Doohickeys that are Y-shaped, and they pin to where the chair mounts.
[00:55:06] And now it's got this nice elevated plane stand that you can work on your plane without having to get on your knees or bend over or whatever.
[00:55:16] Yeah.
[00:55:16] Super, super… I love it. Yeah. I'm so happy about it.
[00:55:19] It's not the most comfortable chair. No, it's not. But here's the thing that sold me on it for flying sail planes.
[00:55:29] Oh, it's going to be perfect for that.
[00:55:31] Because it is like a hammock type chair where it's like you need a bucket or something for your feet.
[00:55:35] Or a cooler.
[00:55:36] Or something to put it on. That was one thing they were talking about, too, how much more comfortable it is when you actually have something to put your feet on. But the way it reclines back, you can look straight at the sky. And if you're sitting there with a glider that's going to be up for an hour, that will be a very comfortable way of doing it.
[00:55:55] I'm looking forward to hearing about you flying the glider in that chair, because I think that's going to be a really hot setup.
[00:56:02] Yeah. So with that, and then with the ability to have that be a plane stand, that was well worth the purchase, but not as exciting to me. Well, no, not as exciting as an iX-20.
[00:56:16] But yeah, I was really excited about it. I'm still smiling about how awesome it was to work on the telemaster. Gosh, I'm flailing my arms around. I'm so excited.
[00:56:26] You're not used to being here.
[00:56:27] Yeah. But yeah, to take the telemaster apart, man, it was perfect. Because, you got the struts and the bolts, that you got to fiddle with, and it just made that so much nicer.
[00:56:37] Well, I'm going to be honest. I didn't see you do that, and I haven't used it yet. So I might be more excited once I actually put it to use for what it was designed for.
[00:56:44] Well, and the big telemaster, your ginormous one, should fit on it, too. Oh, you think so? Oh, yeah.
[00:56:49] Really?
[00:56:49] Yeah, those things, they come out pretty far. Okay.
[00:56:54] Yeah, I think you'll like it. We'll see.
[00:56:56] Yeah. I know. I love it. But yeah, I just wanted to mention, you bought one of those, too.
[00:57:00] Yeah. I think I know of, what, five people or six people that bought those?
[00:57:05] Yeah.
[00:57:06] Yeah, several.
[00:57:07] Yeah, Jeff bought one, and I think a couple of the other guys, Rhode Island guys, I think
[00:57:11] They bought them, too. And you saw a lot of them. There was a lot of them on the line.
[00:57:15] Yeah.
[00:57:15] Yeah. There's a lot of people using them. So, good idea. Like I said, that was, or like you said, that was a 3D printed part that they made.
[00:57:23] Pretty heavy duty, too.
[00:57:24] Yeah.
[00:57:25] Like, it's very… Yeah, I'm not worried about it falling apart. No, it's better than PVC. Like, it's thicker than just your regular old PVC stuff you would hack together, like I got in my garage.
[00:57:34] Yeah. It did a good job, though, for you.
[00:57:37] So, yeah. That kind of covers our purchases.
[00:57:40] Yeah. What else you got? You got some… I saw a couple going.
[00:57:44] Yeah. Well, did you want to talk about crashes, or do you want to talk about combat first, which will lead into crashes?
[00:57:49] Oh, let's go into combat. I forgot you did combat.
[00:57:52] Oh, yeah. Play your combats. Like, I'm giggling already. So, an event at Joe Nall is combat, and they do it, I guess they do it Wednesday night, Thursday night, and Friday night, I guess. At six. At six o'clock, yeah. Yeah. Right on the electric line. And it's run what you brung. Electric. it has to be electric, because it's on the electric line. Duh. But it's run what you brung.
[00:58:15] When you bring whatever you want that you don't want to take home with you, and you fly it with 25 other, or more, people that have the same idea you do, and you get them all in the air at the same time, and it's like a demolition derby for airplanes.
[00:58:33] So, I didn't know this was a thing there. Like, I didn't know that.
[00:58:35] I didn't either. Had I known, ahead of time, I may have prepared differently. Yeah. Because, golly, how much fun was that?
[00:58:45] So, Joe had an airplane that they put in the first day. Yeah.
[00:58:49] Joe from the Rhode Island bunch.
[00:58:51] And he, actually, I was very surprised. He didn't get taken down, but he lost an aileron.
[00:58:57] Yeah.
[00:58:57] Like, he lost an aileron at the beginning part of the combat, and he's a good pilot, apparently.
[00:59:02] Oh, he's a very good pilot.
[00:59:03] He was able to fly around with one aileron. One aileron. And have no issues whatsoever.
[00:59:07] You would not have known he was missing an aileron.
[00:59:09] Now, this is a float plane. Let's make sure we say that. Because when he landed, it tore off the tail. It tore off the rudder.
[00:59:18] Yeah, the rudder came off. Pulled the bottom of the rudder out of the airplane.
[00:59:21] Which makes sense, because it's a sail plane. Float plane. Float plane. Wow, I got that backwards. But anyway, it's a float plane that has no gear. So, there's no tail wheel. There's nothing to keep that up off the ground.
[00:59:33] And it's a pusher. Right. It's got a big, ginormous electric motor on the back.
[00:59:37] What was the wingspan on that?
[00:59:38] I never measured it, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's probably 56-ish, 56 inches, maybe.
[00:59:44] I was thinking five feet. So, we're probably right around the same thing then. And so, after that, he told you, pretty much, go ahead and get this ready for next time.
[00:59:55] Yeah, you can use my radio and battery, and you just fly it Thursday.
[01:00:00] Which Thursday got rained out, but Friday, you ended up doing it. Oh, my gosh. How'd that go for you?
[01:00:05] It was so much fun. Well, it was the most fun I've had in 10 seconds in a long time. Because that's how long it lasted.
[01:00:13] Yeah, it wasn't very long at all.
[01:00:14] No. But, to be honest, it's a big target. Like, most of the airplanes that were flying there were wings. Flying wings. Yeah. Most of them.
[01:00:23] Well, yes, but there were some other ones.
[01:00:25] No, there were.
[01:00:25] I was surprised.
[01:00:26] There were. Yeah, there was quite a selection of airplanes in the air for this combat.
[01:00:32] The very nice-looking EDF F-16 surprised me.
[01:00:36] But I would say that the float plane was probably the biggest target.
[01:00:40] Not the most expensive, but the biggest.
[01:00:42] Oh, yeah. But, no, so the tone goes off, or they counted down. And this thing, really, for a float plane, in dry grass, it took off really easy.
[01:00:52] Yeah.
[01:00:53] But, yeah, anyway, I repaired it from the Wednesday prior, removed the tip floats, and added a little bit of droop to the aileron to try to give me a little more flight time, which didn't matter. Didn't matter. But, yeah, they, they counted down, we take off, and I'm, and I have a strategy, right? So my strategy is I'm going to take off. I'm going to get the motors pulled up, as they're counting down.
[01:01:15] And then when they say go, I'll already be almost at max RPM. So hopefully the launch will go quick. And then my goal was, once it's airborne, I'm going to make a right turn right over the runway and try to take out as many that are taking off that I can, right? Well, that, they, they all got off quicker than I did. So, and I got off what I thought was pretty quick for a float plane on grass. So that strategy didn't pan out.
[01:01:41] So I'm like, okay, well, I'm just going to climb, get some altitude, and then I'm just going to dive right through the middle of this hornet's nest of airplanes that are buzzing around right over the runway. And that's my next strategy. And about the time I advance the throttle to start climbing, a wing, a flying wing comes and, like, hits the back of the, of the, of the plane I'm flying.
[01:02:03] It takes out the right elevator half, which is the elevator half that actually has the control horn, because it's one of those elevators that's got a joiner, and took off the bottom of the rudder, which also happened to have the control horn that controls the rudder. So in one strike, took out the entire control mechanism of this airplane. So then, yeah, it was just pretty much a nosedive straight into the ground. But, man, did I have fun.
[01:02:30] It was so much fun.
[01:02:31] Splinters.
[01:02:32] Yeah, we'll have to post the picture. But, yeah, it, when you hear people talk about re-kitting an airplane, that's exactly what that was. It was a re-kitting of a Balsa airplane.
[01:02:44] Yeah, it was impressive. Yeah. Like, I missed the actual crash. Like, it was behind somebody's seat. Yeah. So I didn't actually get to see that.
[01:02:51] You can see the impact of the two airplanes in the air, though, on the video you got.
[01:02:56] Yeah, just barely. Barely. Like, it was almost off frame. But it was pretty impressive.
[01:03:02] Yeah. I wish it had lasted longer. But it, like, 15 seconds is being generous. Yeah. Like, that's how quickly it happened.
[01:03:10] I have to go back to the video to see exactly how long it was. But, yeah, it was not very long at all.
[01:03:14] Yeah. I think 15 seconds is being generous. Because I, like I said, I made the right turn, kind of, once I got airborne, and I discovered that all the planes were already gone. So then it was like, okay, I'm going to climb, advance the throttle. Oh, bang. Now I'm on my way down and crash.
[01:03:29] Yeah. It was a good time.
[01:03:31] It was fun. Like, how many did we count it, right? It was like 25?
[01:03:35] 20 or 25. I don't remember exactly what it was. Yeah.
[01:03:38] It was more than 20. Airplanes in the air in about a, what, 100-yard by 200-yard box of airspace, maybe?
[01:03:47] Give or take, yeah. That's probably safe.
[01:03:50] It was so much fun. I still, I still giggle. Thanks, Joe, by the way, if you're listening. Thanks for letting me, well, thanks for letting me destroy that airplane. I appreciate it.
[01:04:01] Yeah. Next year, we'll have to figure something else out. Oh, yeah.
[01:04:03] I've already got a strategy.
[01:04:05] Well, we're not going to tell.
[01:04:06] No, no, no. I'm not telling anybody.
[01:04:08] Not even me?
[01:04:09] No.
[01:04:09] Wow.
[01:04:10] Because you might want to do it, too. So? It's fun.
[01:04:13] It really is. Yeah, like I said, we'll have fun. So anyway, yeah. Or something.
[01:04:17] So that leads, yeah.
[01:04:18] Seems to be the way.
[01:04:19] Definitely. So that leads into crashes. I mean, that combat flight ended in a crash, and we did see a few crashes at Jonal.
[01:04:28] Not a ton of big crashes. No. There were several. I don't remember what, there was an airplane that, as he was, like we were sitting watching, he was pitted just to the right of us. Do you remember what that one was? It was big, with a gear issue.
[01:04:48] Yeah, it was some extreme flight 3D plane. No, it wasn't.
[01:04:52] No, no, no. I'm talking about the one, almost looked like a World War II or something like that.
[01:04:57] Where we were camping?
[01:04:59] No. Oh. When we were sitting at the pits with, I think it was with Jeff. Was it under their tent? On the main line. Doesn't matter. So it was a, it was a good size airplane. It was probably, at least a 10 foot wingspan kind of thing. And he flew and it looked like he was very tail heavy. He was porpoising quite a bit and stuff. And then his gear was just flopping. Like he wasn't able to get it up or down.
[01:05:26] Oh, okay. Yeah.
[01:05:27] And then all of a sudden.
[01:05:28] TBM Avengers is what it looked like.
[01:05:29] Okay, there you go.
[01:05:30] So whatever era that it is. Big, big, big scale Warbird. Yeah. World War II. Yeah.
[01:05:35] Good looking airplane.
[01:05:36] It was. It still is.
[01:05:37] It still is. But anyway, so he ended up having to land without gear. Like he was lucky enough to get it to where the gear sucked all the way up and then he wasn't going to chance it. So he came in and landed with the gear up and that was not a bad landing, but he actually brought quite a bit of dirt up with him. Yeah. He landed. You could see it in the video. So we saw that one. I didn't actually see, but there was a Havoc XL that this is a big, big jet. Big. Like XL. Yeah.
[01:06:07] Because XL for extra large. Right. That ended up going into the trees. Yeah. At the end of the line. Yeah. And I mean, they're prepared for this. So they had a huge cherry picker, like man lift kind of thing that went out there and they found it and got it out of the tree and stuff and ended up bringing it back. There's a, I have a picture of them on the back of it. It was like a John Deere gator kind of thing.
[01:06:30] And it was easily like the fuselage was twice as long as the gator was wide. Yeah. That makes sense. As the bed of the gator. So it was a big airplane.
[01:06:43] Yeah.
[01:06:44] And then I actually, I saw another one. And it was a little EDF or something on the, the, the E line. So it actually crashed. Like I see crashes on the simulator. It was so funny. I've never seen one do this before. So apparently when they crashed, they forgot to put it down to, to low throttle and they just had it on and it just sat there. It crashed.
[01:07:04] So it was still kind of in its pieces and then just spun in circles, just the fuselage spun in circles on the runway with all of its pieces scattered, strewn about, strewn about. And it was just going in circles with the EDF running. Like I said, just like you see on the simulator. I was pretty impressed with that. That was the first time I'd ever seen that in real life.
[01:07:25] Anytime I crash on a simulator like that with one of those and it does, I'm like, that's not how it, like that doesn't happen. Well, it sure does.
[01:07:33] Apparently that is what it looks like. That is exactly what it looks like. Very soon. When you forget to bring the throttle back. Yeah.
[01:07:39] But I mean, those were the only crashes that I kind of saw the aftermath that, well, somebody else had an RV-8 that they crashed in the pond. I'm not going to name names, but it was somebody we, we knew. Apparently one of the servos went out in the tail and.
[01:07:57] Nosedive right into the pond.
[01:07:59] And broke off. Like, like the whole, the airplane was pretty much disintegrated. Oh yeah. And the motor propeller and ESC, I guess, are in the bottom of the lake. Yeah. That hurts.
[01:08:09] That does hurt.
[01:08:10] But sorry, you who shall not be named.
[01:08:13] Right.
[01:08:14] Yeah. But other than that, like I said, I don't remember any actual other crashes that we saw. That we witnessed, yeah. We heard of several others. The big turbine A-10 that went down. Yeah. There's a couple other ones I saw.
[01:08:27] Quite a few incidents on the 3D line.
[01:08:29] Well.
[01:08:30] One guy. Kind of to be expected. Well, right. But apparently, and this is on YouTube, a guy who landed with half of.
[01:08:37] Yeah.
[01:08:37] Half a wing.
[01:08:38] Yeah.
[01:08:38] Like, I think a complete panel was missing and he did the whole knife edge thing and landed it.
[01:08:43] Yeah.
[01:08:43] Yeah. So that was, we missed that, but that was cool. I got to see it on YouTube.
[01:08:48] Yeah. And then there was one that whatever happened, I guess, actually on the 3D line ended up in the pilot station, like hit the part where you're supposed to be behind flying.
[01:08:58] Yeah.
[01:08:59] And I mean, there were a few that doinked it over there, but like I said, that's kind of more to be expected. It happens frequently. With that kind of thing. Over there, yeah. Especially when you're trying to dump your tail in the water and all that kind of stuff. But yeah.
[01:09:10] And something else that kind of hurt too, I took a picture of it. There was this beautiful blue and white GB R3, the fantasy, what GBs would
[01:09:21] Have made maybe if they'd stayed in business a few years longer.
[01:09:25] Beautiful, big airplane, had a big two-stroke gas twin on it mounted vertically instead of horizontally, which was cool because the cowl was kind of elongated that way and it had the exhaust coming out the side, which I thought was kind of neat. But apparently, shortly after I took the picture of it, it apparently met its demise. Didn't see it happen, but we heard about it.
[01:09:45] Yeah. It was a flight right after you took the picture of it. Yeah. So, and it almost seemed like the guy wasn't too sure about that airplane because they were working on setting stuff up and all that. Like I was listening to him after you had gone, because you went up and talked to him.
[01:10:01] Yeah. I think I just, it's a general conversation like, oh, it's a really pretty airplane. Do you mind if I take a picture of it? That sort of thing.
[01:10:07] Yeah. But as we started to go down the line a little bit more, I heard somebody else come up to him and was talking to him about it. So I don't know the whole story, but yeah, that was sad to see too. Pretty airplane. I didn't see the aftermath, so hopefully it can be fixed.
[01:10:20] Yeah, I didn't either. Like I, I never did see them retrieve it.
[01:10:24] Yeah. So. Maybe it's not as bad. Maybe it's not. Maybe it's good and you can get it done. Hopefully.. Yeah.
[01:10:30] But crashes happen there. Yeah. So. Always have your camera ready. Yes.
[01:10:37] And it's, it's hard to be everywhere. Yeah. All the time. I mean, that's the thing with this place. It's just so big. Yeah. And it's so fun. Like I originally planned on taking pictures to post on Facebook and do all that stuff when we were there. But by the time I got there, I just started having fun and I just enjoy, like I literally enjoyed myself. I think more in that week than I have with a lot of other things. Yeah. It was good to kind of reset. Right.
[01:11:03] And I can't wait to go back.
[01:11:04] Yeah. I'm talking about the, talking about the crashes again.. I think these were the extreme flight guys. I'm, I'm not positive, but they have an airplane there that, I guess is, has been well used. Big, big 120 cc size.
[01:11:18] Oh, on the 3D line? Some kind of extra edge.
[01:11:21] Not a, not a bad looking airplane until you kind of get up close to it. It's not pretty. You can see that it's, it's been a lot. It's, it's, it's, delivered a lot of fun to whoever's been flying it. Anyway, there's a video of it and it doing some wild 3D stuff on the line close in and it crashes. It's not really a crash, really kind of more of a doink, I would call it. But it did do some damaging. we found it in the, on the 3D line up there at the pavilion.
[01:11:48] We took some pictures of it. Well, apparently I saw on YouTube today, popped up on my feed. They repaired it and put it back in the air. So good for them. Scrappy metal. That's the name that they gave the airplane.
[01:11:59] I love that airplane.
[01:12:00] Yeah. So if what I'm talking about, hit us up and let us know what about it.
[01:12:05] It looks like it's one that has, has given, like you said, a lot of joy to a lot of people. Yeah. It's been ridden hard and put away wet. Yeah. But, yeah, I think it was the day after we saw it messed up or two days later. It, I mean, you could tell it was flyable again. Oh yeah. The lights back on the head and all that stuff.
[01:12:22] With the lights back. Yeah. Cause they were flying it at night.
[01:12:24] I didn't see it fly, but I saw it sitting out there and it was. It was like, it was ready to go.
[01:12:28] Yeah. If you look it up on YouTube, it's flying again. So good on them for keeping that airplane going.
[01:12:33] That's the funny thing too. On, on Facebook, I noticed this is when all the, the photos and all the videos and stuff start being put on. And so it's good to be able to, to go through there and see some of those and kind of relive what I miss at this point.
[01:12:46] Yeah.
[01:12:47] Like it's, yeah, I want to go back so bad. Yeah.
[01:12:49] I do too. I, I'm yeah. So much fun. I mean, where do you really, I mean, I've said it on, on the other recordings we did, but like, it's, I'm not really good with words anyway, but to try to describe that whole experience, it, it's just, you just, it's just something if you can make it happen, you should try to make it happen. Cause even if you can only go for a few days, do it. If you, if you can make it work because it is, it is like no other.
[01:13:19] But I will say the whole week being there, I would like to do that again. Yeah. Like I don't want to do just a couple of days here, a couple of days there. I would like to make it the whole week.
[01:13:28] Yeah, for sure. Yeah. favorite plane, the other favorite plane you saw while you were there.
[01:13:36] It's still got to be the Demozel.
[01:13:37] Yeah.
[01:13:38] I never realized how small they were.
[01:13:40] In real life.
[01:13:41] In real life.
[01:13:41] In real life. I saw that one, yeah.
[01:13:43] And I don't know if you noticed or not, when I was going through pictures after we got home, it actually says one to one on the tail. Oh, like the end number? Yeah. It's like one, two dots, one. Oh, that's awesome. I was pretty impressed with that.
[01:13:55] Oh, that's awesome. So. Okay. I would have to say my favorite was probably that, blue and white GB R3 that I saw. Yeah.
[01:14:05] Oh, it sounds like Lori's home. Or no, Jake's here. Hey, Jake.
[01:14:08] It's all right. but, anyway, that was my favorite was the, the GB and hopefully, like you said, hopefully not a huge crash. Hopefully it's flying again today, but that's probably my favorite because I'm a sucker for that style of airplane. what I mean? Yep. But, good looking plane. So do we want to get into for next year, what we would do differently?
[01:14:36] We can, we can touch on that pretty quick. Like I don't want to, cause we talked so much on, in the other shows about what we were, what to know, all that kind of stuff. So maybe before we go next year, we can have a primer on what to do when you go there. That's a good idea. But premium site, we got to try and do next year. Yeah. actually, no, don't try and do a premium site.
[01:15:00] Right. No, no one else needs to try to get one because they're really not worth it.
[01:15:05] It's not worth it at all. It's, it's, it's pointless.
[01:15:08] Take lots of pictures.
[01:15:09] Lots of pictures. Golf carts going back.
[01:15:12] If you've got space for an extra easy up, set up an easy up on one of your favorite lines.
[01:15:18] Yeah, that's a good thing too.
[01:15:19] That way you got a place to, that way you got a place to camp out if you, if you want.
[01:15:24] So other than that, I think we can, we can talk about stuff next year before we go.
[01:15:28] I like it.
[01:15:29] But whatever you're doing now, stop, put this on your calendar for next year. Right. And make it a point to go.
[01:15:36] If you, yeah, if you can, if you can make it, I would highly recommend it. I mean, like Jeff said it, I've said it, what, what was a bucket list item is now, is now something I, I feel the need to do every year.
[01:15:49] Yep. At least for the next few years until we get sick of it, which may never happen. You can.
[01:15:53] Yeah.
[01:15:54] So anything else?
[01:15:55] No, that, that should just about cover the, the Joe Nall wrap up. We had a blast. it was really neat meeting people who listened to us ramble on. that was, really, I, I really got a lot out of that. So thank you to everybody who came up and said hi.
[01:16:12] And we'll do a better job of bringing like stuff with us next year to give away.
[01:16:16] Yeah. Yeah, for sure. I mean, we had, decals, stickers, whatever you want to call them. Decals to give away. So hopefully next year we'll.
[01:16:24] But also like, I didn't have them with me most of the time. So I didn't even think about it. Yeah. So we need to keep them in the golf cart.
[01:16:30] So yeah, for, for sure next year we'll have more of that kind of thing. And hopefully we'll, we'll stock up on some shirts and things like that. So we can kind of hand those out to folks that want them to.
[01:16:40] Awesome. Nice. Well, cool. It's been fun. I'm glad we got to do this.
[01:16:44] Me too.
[01:16:45] And do you want to say anything else?
[01:16:47] No, I think that about covers it.
[01:16:48] Then until next time, I'm Ron. I'm Tom. And he will be back in months. Yeah. Good night. Good night.
