[00:00:01] Hello everyone and welcome to the rc plane lab podcast the delayed edition i'm ron i'm tom and i'm dave howdy gentlemen we're late it's okay it happens first time it's happened well we had

[00:00:24] Several things against us this week weather was one thing covid was another thing well i guess

[00:00:31] That's really it for you guys so yeah as you said my wife ended up getting covid this week and was sick so she has been hype don't look at me like that yes i still because i'm not at my house we're at tommy's house so i'm still gonna have things come through on my phone just to see it's okay but anyway so crystal was pretty much okay i guess maybe that's a lot did you just send me something

[00:00:58] No i didn't okay i turned mine off because you used to yell at me for that i know it's do as i

[00:01:06] Say not as i do right hold on how do i get that there we go we're on i gotta say vibrate it's

[00:01:11] Nice recording in my house i like this i'm sure you do so let me get back to my story right quick

[00:01:17] Sorry thank you it's a little warm in here i'm taking my jacket off i think it's comfortable down here we are at my house so anyway yes crystal had covid she was holed up in her room all week so i had to do everything she said you were a real trooper too she was very appreciative of all the stuff you did for her well no i mean like honestly that's just one of the things that took up time and all that the other thing we're actually moving my mom in with us now since my

[00:01:50] Dad died she's been with us quite a bit but we've been doing a lot of organization yes stuff yep to kind of get ready for it so i don't we don't need to get into it too much but one of the things we are doing is tearing out one of our showers and putting in a walk-in tub oh have you started that project well oh okay all right sorry there lies the issue yes i started enough to where it's no longer showerable -huh and then crystal got sick right which i didn't want to tear

[00:02:24] Into it more and we're not using that other bathroom we just let her have that one as her own little right stuff that way she can get sick over in there and not have to get us sick so unfortunately because i spent 15 minutes getting ready to tear out part of the the surround we can no longer use that shower just the way it happens yeah that explains a lot timing yeah no i showered before i came like i figured you guys wouldn't want to be around me if i didn't but anyway so yes that's when we started on then we also ordered a new like vanity and

[00:02:58] Stuff for our other bathroom that she is now holed up in and we got it in finally after a month and it

[00:03:04] Was all scratched oh no so we had to return that is it like a granite top or something or what kind

[00:03:10] I don't even know what it is it's whatever she picked out it's some plasticky top but it's where it's all molded in the same way yes like the one we have in the other bathroom is a granite top it has a separate sink underneath i don't like that okay i like the one piece gotcha so it's some whatever but the the wooden base that we got had big scratches on it and stuff that's unfortunate so we now have all of that stuff in the dining room because there's no place to put it along with all the other stuff we're trying to move in and out plus crystal being sick so it's just been a nightmare of a week but it's okay but now we're recording now we are at your house at my house

[00:03:47] Which it's been a while which was a challenge yeah it really was we had to move the table and

[00:03:52] We found there's some weird electrical thing in my basement right that was feeding back giving feedback i mean we're literally less than 10 feet from where we started no there's no noise now it's weird it's okay what else what's going on yeah so first time in almost four years by the way almost four years we've been doing this that's that's not crazy that seems weird i was thinking like we're going on three years no it's but it was march 3rd of 2020 that's crazy i know i can't believe we've been doing it that long i know right i really can't our standards have dropped a lot since

[00:04:26] We started yeah you added me well that's no dave i would say that we added you and that improved

[00:04:35] Our standards i would say would you really say that if he was here though absolutely or if he was not here i would see him yeah yeah i like having dave here i do too he's a pretty good guy feels though we had to say that because you said that so

[00:04:52] Oh anyway so yeah what do you want to get into next hey whatever new airplanes okay not my new airplanes oh mine not your new airplanes dave's oh definitely not dave's no yeah dave's not buying anything you guys are like kind of you're against buying things for some reason well yes okay for now so there are new planes that e-flight came out with oh those new planes you want to talk about

[00:05:16] That yeah you want to talk about another timber yet another timber yay believe it listen i don't want

[00:05:21] To i don't like okay i'm just gonna say that i'm like of the three of us i'm not the horizon fanboy agreed oh same here okay but i will say this eight hundred dollars eight hundred and fifty excuse me eight hundred and fifty dollars for a binding you may want to hit that a few more times okay that's good for a are you done yeah one more there you go for a bind and fly balsa and light

[00:05:56] Ply built-up airplane i think is actually fairly reasonable it's unfortunate that they called it timber like the the name seems to really elicit a lot of emotion it's made it run it's time for a new name yeah and it and it doesn't really to me it doesn't really look like the foam timbers to me it looks a little different to me it's the exact same thing the nose looks a little different to me the wing plan form is a little different shape i think i mean yes it's a big hershey bar wing but the airfoil is different it's a different airplane and i don't think the price of of eight hundred and fifty

[00:06:30] For a bind and fly balsa and light ply airplane i don't think that's really all that out of line

[00:06:37] I don't either because if you look at the servos and stuff that come with it those are 30 bucks a

[00:06:41] Piece yeah i mean it's it's a lot of money to lay out all at once but you're getting everything you need except your transmitter and a battery i mean and it's all built already it's all you pull it out no you you put it together what is it like it's you can fly it like in two hours or something like

[00:06:57] That i don't know maybe less i mentioned to it but i know like everything is installed yeah

[00:07:00] Where it's and i mean it's not my thing like i'm not i'm not their target audience but i really don't and i'm not the horizon fanboy but i i think they're getting a lot of what's backlash

[00:07:15] Unnecessarily why do you keep looking at me when you say that because you're the i mean let's be honest

[00:07:20] You're the horizon fanboy of the three of us i think they make good stuff i and i'm not saying they're perfect yeah i don't disagree so i'm just i buy other stuff too but most of your stuff is horizon i mean with the exception of the the big glider you're working on and but but yeah i guess you might be right so and there's nothing wrong with that

[00:07:44] They make good stuff wrong with that of course but then yeah so i i personally feel like horizon's

[00:07:49] Kind of taking a taking a beating on this unnecessarily yes it's called timber and

[00:07:54] That's unfortunate but but this is the turbo or turbo timber s w s it's so they add a few letters to the end of it right well so here's the thing so that stands for sport wood series and i'm really hoping that that means that this is going to be the beginning of more sport wood series of e-flight airplanes because e-flight used to make a lot of airplanes and then they went to all foam which i get it foam is cheaper to make yeah and if you look at a the sizing and price foam is a lot cheaper to

[00:08:27] Buy which makes it more popular right yeah but i still like balsa i do too i'm a huge fan of balsa

[00:08:37] It's it's one of those things to where

[00:08:41] I might end up having to buy one one day yeah i mean like not now it's a nice air like it's not like i said i'm not the target audience really but for what you're getting i really don't think

[00:08:52] The price is is really all that out of line i really don't either it's big i mean it's a good size airplane that i don't i don't think from what i saw i don't think there's any struts on it i don't recall seeing any which that means it's going to go together easier i like that too

[00:09:06] Yeah i mean compare that okay so extreme flight they're they've just restocked their their 60 inch plug and play models like an extra and i think there's an edge and they've got a few excuse me a few different ones those are those are nearly a thousand dollars and they're not plug and play you still have to provide your receiver and so you just

[00:09:28] Said plug and play oh they're not blind or bind and fly they're not bind okay i'm sorry that's

[00:09:33] Right but they're plug and play yeah so you have to provide your own receiver and that so i mean and those are outstanding quality people don't seem to be beating up extreme flight over

[00:09:43] The price of those what i'm saying well i don't necessarily think i've been hearing a lot of people complaining as much about the prices as they were about the name oh that's true i think that's the overarching complaint with his airplane but like i said it looks good if you've seen the

[00:09:57] Flight video i mean it looks like it flies good like oh yeah for sure but i mean this isn't the only airplane that horizon has released recently like they've released several different airplanes that weren't timbers well two right not that weren't timbers but they've released two since

[00:10:13] We well the cherokee that's not a timber that is nothing we will talk about yeah i'm sorry you can talk i didn't mean to steal your thunder but well okay then before we do that let's talk really quick so the turbo timber sws it does get confusing like the only one i remember what it is is the twimber because it's so much different it's different enough like i couldn't even tell you the small one that i have what that one actually technically is we need a timber reference chart that's not a

[00:10:40] Bad idea because they've got 15 different versions of this damn thing yeah they have a lot yeah because

[00:10:46] Hanger 9 had one a few years ago too oh did they i don't know like i'm i'm not a i'm not up on well because i i googled it because it says on here they were talking about it's the biggest one that e-flight has made which that is correct that's the biggest oh see tommy's very happy a day because he's got his laptop sitting in front of him so he is going to be the google king no i'm just looking did you find it which one which one do you want i think hanger 9 apparently at one point there was a gas-powered one previously yeah like 30 to 50 cc look up turbo timber 110 i think is what i

[00:11:21] Saw before or just timber 110 it might have been before the turbo yay nay hanger 9 timber 110 30 to

[00:11:30] 50 ccr 110 inch yeah yeah that's a good size airplane that is a very good size almost discontinued

[00:11:36] Yeah well i mean that's obvious but so that's not the biggest timber horizon has made but this is the biggest one that technically e-flight has produced yeah two meters and what's kind of cool though it does come with the avian 50 55 motor 500 kv which is four to six s 100 amp spectrum avian smart esc which i mean those are expensive too 4s like i said to 16 so it'll run on 3200 to 7000 mh lipos

[00:12:07] It's a bit of a stretch that's that's a big window which is cool because i have batteries in that range

[00:12:14] I bet it doesn't bounce very well with that 3200 yeah it's not a small airplane like i mean a meter

[00:12:20] Yeah i mean it's it's a whatever that ends up being yeah about six feet a little over roughly yeah i don't remember what 30 39 inches or something per meter yeah sure i don't know i should know i don't but anyway yeah that's really all i want to say on that one it looks unfortunately just like the the foam one like coloring and everything but it's pulsa and i like it well there you go

[00:12:54] Okay you okay okay i hear you clicking so i don't know what else you're looking up or if you i was just looking at it sorry i'll stop clicking no you don't have to stop clicking you you do you

[00:13:03] So the cherokee cherokee let's talk about that so i'm not into foam airplanes but man this the new cherokee looks really good i like it yeah they've added a lot of detail to it

[00:13:12] Which is cool so i just showed you guys the video that they released when i got here i had a little issue with the video at first because i watched it and the very first shot is from the back of the airplane and i was sitting there thinking that looks i mean like they have a lot of scale details but it was and then the next shot is somebody holding up the i don't know if it was a flap or aileron or whatever they're like checking control surfaces or something on it yeah and then i realized wait

[00:13:43] Hold on that's a real cherry this is not this is not the model and then it took them a little bit to get to the model but it still looks pretty good yeah just not as scaled i thought it was but

[00:13:55] It looks so much better than the first one like like this is like a new version every release yeah but they've added safe select now which is cool they've added the lights and there's a i think they did something different with the interior now too it looks really really good it does

[00:14:10] Yeah that might be something i'd i would pick up and eventually see i like it i do too yeah like i like that and i'm not a electric guy well but fly them a few times you'll you'll become one well i've

[00:14:22] Got plenty of foam airplanes sort of electric even yeah i know but they're small they are get a bigger

[00:14:27] One it's just the e like for me that's the biggest thing is the simplicity of them right so that one comes with sub micro servos six of them what else does it say brushless outrunner motor obviously avian 70 amp smart esc six channel pretty powerful for a little guy yeah and it'll run on 3s or 4s 2200 to 4000 milliamp power batteries it's on back order already by the way ec3 or ic3

[00:14:56] On the connectors and you're looking at the one for 279 that's what we're talking about i thought

[00:15:03] It was 299 299 is the 299 is the yeah find and fly and then okay i gotcha 269 is the plug and play

[00:15:12] Yeah looks looks good i'm huge fan huge fan i like scale airplanes though let's see i like that style

[00:15:19] Like more of the i'm kind of getting more into the the general aviation not military stuff kind of like that yeah whatever you call that yeah general aviation civilian stuff oh that's what i was called for looks cool and i actually have a spot in the garage where that would slide right in jeez with the ones i get what would that what would that bring your number up to i don't even know hey

[00:15:40] Speaking of numbers can i talk about my spreadsheet real quick let's talk about your spreadsheet really quick so i got lucky and i was digging around on my laptop and i found a 2022 version of my spreadsheet that we talked about on the last episode that i had lost and i didn't feel very happy about so i have updated my 2022 spreadsheet to 2024 and it is uploaded on my google drive and i'm going to keep it not there i'm going to keep it on my laptop i mean i will keep it on drive to make

[00:16:13] It easy for me to update while i'm at the field and stuff but i will also download those updates to my laptop whenever i i always keep a usb backup yeah unfortunate ron's suggestion was for me to call google and ask them hey what happened to my data because it's just that easy to get a hold of

[00:16:32] Google and they'll say google it yeah right my suggestion actually was to google it and kind of

[00:16:38] See if you could get any kind of contact i may i may try that but at this point i've got my spreadsheet updated and see what did i say my number was earlier 53 i think it was like 14 39 flyable and then a bunch of other ones that aren't well look it up you have it right in front of you i do it's right here in front of me -huh let me add them up let's see there's yeah there's

[00:17:04] 35 flyable 30 so this is your update by the way that you owed us a month ago yeah just saying in case anybody's wondering why we're talking about it 30 yeah 47 that was the number that's my

[00:17:18] Total oh 53 is mine that's why it sounds familiar yeah 47 okay what you got there 71 71 i had to look

[00:17:29] Almost add ours together yeah no there's still a lot left to get there i'm gonna sell a lot this year no i'm not i might i probably won't though speaking of selling speaking of selling did you want to talk about the swap meets yeah well actually i don't know if we've settled on stuff so we can talk about it amongst ourselves while we talk to everybody else about it too so toledo and dayton are coming up yeah there are the swap meets in ohio i think beginning part of april for april for toledo yeah first week in april and then the third weekend of april is dayton yeah so who's going when

[00:18:06] And where so i cannot go to toledo okay and i want to go to dayton okay dave dave's going to

[00:18:14] I'm going to toledo are you just just going to toledo yeah i can't take the extra time because i'm taking so i'm taking basically a week in april between toledo and the solar thing oh that reminds

[00:18:29] Me sorry not to cut you off did you see like is there a reason you're going down to southern

[00:18:33] Illinois because it's going to put you dead center in the apparently for the eclipse

[00:18:38] Apparently that's going to be the same thing at the ama headquarters in muncie indiana right but

[00:18:44] Sparta illinois is much closer than well i think it'd be kind of cool to go to the headquarters i've

[00:18:49] Never been there before i'd like to go sometime i wouldn't mind seeing the museum right yeah okay

[00:18:54] Well i just didn't know if you knew it was going to go hey real quick speaking of the ama museum sorry let's all just keep interrupting don don low don low has passed away who is ron you may not be familiar but an icon like kind of like dave brown yeah who is also goes way way way way back real an innovator in the hobby and yeah we just lost him recently which is unfortunate there's a little write-up i think on model aviation i think i saw something online about

[00:19:25] That but yeah sad news but i mean the guy was 98 made it to 98 years old so that's awesome that's good yeah it was sad to see that news don low designed many airplanes fai pattern flyer i mean it's just all around hobby guy that's sad yeah i also saw if we're going to talk about that

[00:19:48] This has been a couple few months ago maybe that john adams died from horizon he was the one that had a lot to do with switching to 2.4 gigahertz yes over i did not see that i'll be darned yeah he wasn't very old so i don't know what happened i think he was laying in 60s yeah man that's i could be wrong

[00:20:05] Though so oh i hope you're wrong yeah but anyway anyway you talked about the ama museum and that reminded me of don low yeah so anyway he's going to southern illinois and before that before you cut him off that's what he was talking about yeah he was going to talk about time he couldn't take time

[00:20:20] Yeah and then i just can't take the extra time because then the joe null coming up in may yeah okay and i accumulate time so slowly i get it i totally get it plus we are extremely short-handed

[00:20:30] I can't go anywhere okay so it's just toledo for you and daniel yeah and maybe me i haven't i would like to go i haven't figured all that out yet because that's a lot i got to talk to crystal about a few extra days away which shouldn't be a big deal but because i think toledo we leave on thursday right correct leave thursday then we're gone thursday friday saturday come back saturday night come back saturday night yeah so that's two nights in a hotel and then dayton is i think that's

[00:21:02] Just it's closer much closer yeah but it's also i think so one night in a hotel i think i think it's

[00:21:09] Friday saturday for the swap meet yeah but i don't think you can get there early because it's friday saturday for the same thing in toledo but they let you in the day before to get everything set up correct right so that just might be a leave thursday after work because it's so close

[00:21:26] Three hours whatever yeah it's like three and a half hours maybe four no it's a little longer than that because it takes about three and a half to get to champagne or not champagne indianapolis three and 15 or so for me here i thought it was a little farther north isn't it i can say i don't know catch you catch well you can get there a lot of different ways but i go to indian and catch 70 what is it 70 whatever it is okay yeah so say four hours whatever 88 days away oh good enough yeah

[00:21:57] So friday starts at nine and then closes in saturday at three and is there since you're on the site

[00:22:05] Yeah does that open the door at nine or when do they open for vendors so thursday evening setup available by appointment oh i wonder if that's worthwhile doing might be if we're gonna

[00:22:17] Have a lot of tables which i'm selling a lot of stuff we'll have to figure mostly just airplanes though does say how much tables are it did i think it was this is stuff we should have 22 dollars oh that's not bad each or two days 28 each one day is 22 two days is 20 like why would

[00:22:36] It be more for two days because you're renting them for two days that's 22 each table if you do it one day it's 22 bucks if you do it two days it's 28 bucks right yes 10 discount when renting eight

[00:22:48] Tables or more we don't need eight but what aren't tables 50 bucks that they're 25 a piece you can get a wall 25 a piece is that what you said yeah oh that's not we spent 50 we spent 50 bucks last

[00:23:01] Year on tables those are for interior tables wall tables are 38 bucks i don't share about a wall one if you want a 10 by 10 booth for two days that's 115 i don't and then additional booth tables oh that's if you got a booth electric drop yeah we don't need that so and then one general admission ticket

[00:23:19] Is included with each table ordered oh nice so we got tables and free entry yeah that's worth it then

[00:23:25] Yep so there you go we could set up thursday night potentially just leave a little bit early on thursday yeah that's fine yeah i think that would probably be and then just stay thursday night friday

[00:23:36] Night yeah okay so that's the plans then i will put that on the calendar under our calendar i'm gonna make a note or else i'm not gonna remember or maybe i can add it i got the website up you don't i don't think you have access to the google calendar oh because i use google calendar and on the website it just pulls that up i'll have to give that to you by the way so update

[00:23:57] Calendar toledo and dayton yeah i wish i could go to toledo that's i really enjoy that show i do too

[00:24:05] That's that's been a good one that we've gone to a couple times already yeah but i know last year we talked about trying dayton so this works out yeah and i think that was a at the suggestion

[00:24:16] Of when that gem from ra cores didn't he tell us that dayton was a good show i don't remember i

[00:24:21] Really don't remember it was could have been yeah anyway i know there was a swap meet this past weekend well yesterday i guess because this is sunday but that they or was it it was somebody told us about it on the website too oh brian ended up going to it iowa city yeah that was one that if things would have aligned better i would have liked to have tried to see what that's like that was three and a half hours away too yeah so perry's coming up too right that's on our bucket list yeah that's definitely not this year not this year but i think that was one of the beginning

[00:24:53] Weekends too i looked at yeah so you'll be busy since you can't do anything on the first weekend

[00:24:58] Your job sucks well just saying it's not time to retire six more years well we've been doing this

[00:25:06] For four so that'll be over before it crazy to me you'll have a decade in with this by the

[00:25:11] Time you retire well maybe it'll last that long who knows who knows i mean i don't know we just have to have stuff to talk about i guess i guess although this one's i've got lots to talk about this week like like i mean i've been busy like i've been really busy okay so do you want to get to that or do you want to i wanted to ask that all the new stuff you wanted to talk about that was all

[00:25:35] The new airplanes okay but i wanted to ask you guys if you got that faa survey thing no no yes no i don't i haven't checked my email in a while oh well it was one that i don't remember when it came out it was a while ago and they kept sending emails don't forget to take this don't forget to take something about recreational flyer survey or something like that i did not get that oh well i filled that out today so i didn't know if you did or not okay but that's okay i don't feel as though it was very worthwhile no but what kind of questions did they ask you how many planes do you

[00:26:05] Have where do it didn't even ask where you fly like site-wise but it asked one of the questions was do you fly outside of your own county and how many states do you fly in which i was they're thinking no i don't fly out of my county and i'm like oh wait yeah i do and then no i don't fly out of state oh wait yeah so i had to fill that stuff out then it was trying to ask how many flights did you have in every month of the year it's like well i didn't i don't keep track of that but it did ask how many flights did you have last year so i was able to put that in then it asked how

[00:26:39] Long are your flights how many of each airplane do you own size wise or i should say they were calling it drone this was from the faa and then it got to the point where it finally asked

[00:26:54] If you can answer that if you need to it's okay then it finally got to the point where they asked what do you fly and how many of so how many drones how many fixed or fixed wing aircraft there were a couple other ones on there like quadcopter hexacopter and they had a few other things on there i don't remember what it was so interesting yeah no i did there was like whoops there was only one question in there where it actually when you had to tell like the other kinds of airplanes or the other kinds of drones you flew they had one thing in there where it was

[00:27:27] Actually said model airplanes i was like that's exactly what it is yeah it's not pictures videos or anything like that it's model flying i wonder if that was just like a randomized

[00:27:38] Yeah i got one of those a few years back and i don't think they've changed any questions those

[00:27:41] All sound pretty familiar do they well it was i think i got it last year too or the year before

[00:27:46] Yeah i don't i haven't gotten anything like that okay maybe it went to my spam a lot of my government

[00:27:52] Stuff goes to the spam yeah because that's where i send it that yeah makes sense but anyway

[00:27:59] Are you oh go ahead well this is you now okay well i don't or do you want me to talk about the glider first while we're yes go ahead okay so i've been working on the glider and how's that going

[00:28:14] And you've been updating your build blog yeah so let me try and pull that up really quick

[00:28:19] Here i've got it right here if you want to see a couple things i was gonna yeah do it let me see

[00:28:22] Swing that around sir i'm so glad we're prepared and organized oh we're

[00:28:28] It's been a rough week so i'm happy with whatever -oh i heard some feedback oh wait maybe that's what i put my phone that's probably my phone there it's gone

[00:28:40] Well i can't see that far away ron you have just given up you just don't care anymore i'm okay so how does your there's a mouse right there if you want to use a mouse you can slide that over too

[00:28:56] Well i can talk about what i've been doing which is basically nothing it's just working on ready his cockpit still still that is just a long drawn out project that just isn't going to ever end you should tell him no well or tell me has to pay by the hour or do what i did give it back

[00:29:13] To him oh we're getting there it's getting there so yeah so yeah i mentioned give it back to him

[00:29:20] So the horton project oh dave let's cut you off again hold on i'm sorry i'm starting to see a

[00:29:24] Pattern here i know right go ahead finish him no go ahead i gave the horton back to dave not this different dave yeah yeah i'm sorry he was he was he was not angry with me for not finishing it i did feel bad for not finishing it but it was sitting on my table and i kept putting stuff in front of it and that's not fair to dave because i told him i would finish it and i kept putting stuff in front of it and that's on me and i don't feel good about that but i did give it back to him in a state where it could be finished and it i did put a lot of work into

[00:29:58] That so i gave him a good list of what needed to be done and the direction i was going with each project and he's got my number if he has questions he's welcome to ask well so you feel

[00:30:11] A great sense of relief now that it's no longer there i do that's what i was going to say that's

[00:30:14] Something big that's not hanging over your head yeah so you should like i said i don't feel good

[00:30:19] About it but i'm it's a weight off my shoulders and i don't feel beholden to anybody now wasn't that

[00:30:25] One of the things we talked about like the first one or two episodes probably so going on four years i know four years well i still have projects older than that but well i do too but they're mine

[00:30:38] Right somebody yeah anyway i'm done tearing stuff out of the airplane finally starting to put stuff back into it so that's good that's good yes nice signs of progress signs of progress i had a snow day last monday so me too most of the stuff i think it's aps isn't it it was an ice day it's all yeah it's a nice day yeah it's all vacuum form which i hate vacuum form yeah it's not fun to work with there's some resin stuff in there and the resin stuff i gotta admit it's pretty nice looking oh yeah worry about how brittle it is and how many times i'm gonna break it but yeah but the control stick

[00:31:11] Yeah oh that may become a dowel rod yeah why not work yeah not your airplane it'd be more durable

[00:31:18] Probably keep you from breaking it keep you from breaking it oh playing footsies reggie breaking it well he blends hard with it and then reggie needs to decide if he's going to put a pilot in this

[00:31:27] Thing or not before i button it back how can you not how can you yeah no kidding put that much effort into a detailed cockpit and not put a pilot in it yeah that way you better put a pilot in it right

[00:31:38] That way when he crashes it he can get the pilot out to build maybe you should just build him a little coffin for it now i have a place to put it yeah i'll build a little eight scale that

[00:31:48] Would be awesome that's a great idea you really tickled yourself i did that was a good one not to cough it's failing so yeah it's it's moving

[00:31:58] Along it it'll be done here shortly oh that's good it's so it's a lot of work yeah the big thing is i'm gonna have to relocate all the servos once i get this cockpit in and that's yeah building trays and yeah that's and the with the cockpit in there there's not much room left to put them yeah was this an arf yeah it's the hanger nine the big p51 yeah 150 size or

[00:32:25] Whatever it's called yeah i mean it'll look cool when it's done but for a few days well i mean

[00:32:33] Be much easier to deal with this thing too is this the one i had to repair the nose on it doesn't have a lower cowl on it so i don't know the nose looks okay

[00:32:42] Well i mean i did a pretty good job on the repair but don't break your arm look well i mean it looked good when i was done is it is it the od green on the top yeah checkers no no checkers

[00:32:56] Okay checkers not my repair then no he's had a few mustangs yes he has yeah i think this one is chris scheltz ah okay yeah i did not repair this one probably because he has a pony

[00:33:10] Quit any newsle i'm sorry all right have you found your stuff yeah my i've got okay so the repair log for my glider is online go check it out if you want to see any of the pictures so i have rcplanelab.com slash build logs click the thing on top and find it i don't know if you're on mobile

[00:33:31] Like if you're looking at our website on your mobile you have to click the little three bars where it says left side yeah wherever that's at because really because yeah if you if you just go to rcplanelab.com on your phone like on a mobile device it's it just shows like what's a podcast and shows how to get our podcast stuff you have to click that menu at the top and then that's where it opens up all your other options that are on the website anyway oh okay yeah okay worth mentioning

[00:33:59] I think and you did so good job i'm not going to get in too much to this why not because i feel

[00:34:04] Like i've talked a lot well i'm getting ready to talk a lot and that's the other reason i'm not

[00:34:09] Going to get into it because i'm going to go take a nap here in a minute so no so i so i've got it laid out to where you can kind of see what it looked like when i got it i couldn't resist but laying it all out in the basement to see how big to see how it presents itself and so i took some pictures of the holes and some of the damage and stuff and this actually has have you seen have you looked at this at all so the control horns that are on it do what those are called i've never seen control i haven't paid attention to that specifically to the control horns oh god there's pictures right

[00:34:42] There you go look here let's go back what kind is that it was something obviously this is a seagull kit i don't think i've ever seen those before i like them like they're very they're plain they're very simple there's not a lot that goes into putting them in it's a single hole but it's it's got dog ears on the side of the circle and then it actually obviously so it doesn't spin the the mounting place in the airplane is laser cut to match oh so it's it's a like i said it's a good setup i

[00:35:14] Like that pretty slick i like that and it's it's nice it's recessed into the control surface which is

[00:35:20] Yeah so you don't see any of that yeah i've seen yeah oh what are they called do no control horns control horns yes but like i said i thought that was kind of neat so i also came across some some damage it looks like water damage on this so it looks like it's gotten wet a little bit when i pulled the the covering off of the very front off of the nose that has been smashed it it has staining it has nothing's like loose or anything but it's it's stained

[00:35:54] Pretty good i don't think it's gonna be a problem looking at it and stuff i mean it feels solid still but one of the wing panels the the end part is actually delaminating and coming off so i think and i guess i'll talk to you about this you guys what if you think this is a good idea or not i think what i'm going to do is just try and glue that together as much as i can and then make another rib to mount on the outside of it

[00:36:23] Just to kind of give it the the outside piece to make sure it's nice and and strong and then you increase your span by yeah well are you are you putting the yeah i mean that doesn't matter to me if it's a little bit wider but i would do it on both sides well yeah make it even right if i'm

[00:36:39] Yeah no i can cut another okay the other one as long as yours i don't know what type of spar joiners he's got in it but as long as though there is none yet oh you have to make them what do you mean

[00:36:49] Spar joiners maybe i'm thinking of it's the wing obviously slides together yeah the wing joiners

[00:36:54] Yeah is that what you're talking about yeah no the that's just it has the aluminum tubes that are supposed to go in it and then it's just got screws that go through to hold it together there's a panel on the bottom of the wing that comes off then there's thumb screws that go just to kind of hold it oh it's off okay but the wing joiner i don't have screws hold the pull the two ribs together okay yeah pull the two wing panels together that should be okay yeah i mean eighth inch more or whatever i end up cutting it out i shouldn't make any difference i was thinking about that because it is a little bit stronger yeah so that was my thought on doing that and then

[00:37:28] Depending on how it goes either i thought about putting like a dowel in there to kind of tie everything together just because it did delaminate a little bit and see if i can get some extra strength

[00:37:39] In there that way maybe a couple so when you say delaminate you're talking about the sheeting has

[00:37:42] Come off of the ribs so there it is you can see the pictures on the website do you see oh you need

[00:37:49] This yeah well because i'm blind oh i see what you're talking about yeah i see what you're talking about yeah an extra rib there probably wouldn't be a bad idea okay and then like what you're talking about with the the sheeting i may because it looks kind of like it might be warped also right there

[00:38:09] The trailing edge or is that reflex no that's supposed that's reflex the airfoil is actually

[00:38:13] Okay curved like that yeah i would say the the rib and then like a piece of dowel yeah it

[00:38:20] Would be good like if if you look at it you can actually push it together and it's almost completely flat i mean like it almost looks like it's gonna go together perfectly with some glue in there yeah

[00:38:28] It just looks like it literally delaminated yep i would put a little bit of tight bond in there push it up tape it let it dry and then make yourself a new rib and yeah tie it together

[00:38:37] With some dowel so that's my plan on that one once again if you guys want to see the pictures go to the website and look at them that way that way you can kind of see what we're talking about and

[00:38:46] What do you do how do i get out of this oh so that was that one like i said everything else has gone fairly straightforward so far except for i found a nice little present home yeah i'm like at first i thought it was just a dead bird it was in there because so the one wing panel and this is one of the big inner wing panels so it's the the biggest panel that's on there i got all the covering off of the one that had the hole in it and stuff already so i could kind of

[00:39:19] See how that was it covering came off wonderfully no and that's the other thing too like this covering heating it up with a heat gun and just peeling it up like there is it left no residue whatsoever it was very handy like i was expecting to have a lot of work to do residue right like color and all that kind of stuff left on it but nothing it all came off nice and nice and clean but anyway so as i picked up this other wing panel and this is the one that was also damaged by the way

[00:39:49] As i picked it up i noticed like you could hear something inside of it moving well originally i thought it was just like they left the extensions in there servo extensions because how you can hear those move and hit things in it so i didn't think anything of it and i'm downstairs and it's a big panel so i'm sitting on the floor and i just watching tv and i'm peeling it up slowly burning my hand until i get started then all of a sudden i see feathers it's like what what is going on here so turns out it must have been a mouse that got in there because there was a bunch

[00:40:21] Of mouse droppings mouse turds in there and a lot of bird feathers that they must have found somewhere and wanted to stay warm so wherever this was stored i assume was cold yeah and so they made a nice little home in there there was no mice in there now well that's good that was a good thing but i got it all taken outside and you can see pictures on here when i and crystal that's the other thing so crystal asked me and i wasn't even thinking so i went right outside in front of the garage yes and that's where i dumped everything nice so you can drag it into the garage it was cold

[00:40:53] Out and i didn't really want to have to walk too far it was cold and snowy but so everything's out of it now there's there's a little bit of damage that looks like where the the mouse is chewed a little bit yeah but nothing at all that's concerning to me so we should be able to fix that no problem everything now is stripped and i actually it's not on here yet but i did strip the the canopy portion so i got the the actual canopy off along with the the whole fixture what do you call

[00:41:26] It the the hatch the whole thing i got all the the covering taken off of that and i found excuse me i found that there were some sort of worms that started eating through the balsa worms really yeah it was interesting there was one that was somebody's update their shots yeah there was one and it was there was one in there still like it was dead but there was one in there still that was a quarter inch long or so and then maybe eighth inch wide really yeah i should

[00:41:58] Have taken a don't think i've ever seen worms in balsa before i've never had a mouse house or worms but

[00:42:03] I did have the privilege of working on an airplane that rattled a lot yeah the wing was full of dog food

[00:42:09] Dog food yeah the a mouse had been storing it yeah i've only had one experience with with mice and that was with the the big red white and blue sbox that i have it had a mouse nest and one wing panel and then it had discolored the covering which is still discolored yellow

[00:42:28] What would make you i wonder why i don't know yellow i don't know what would come out of a mouse that could possibly something yellow but yeah but anyway yeah got that torn apart good deal i found the found the mouse holes and now i i have to figure how to make a new canopy because this one's got a little bit of scratches on it and stuff and i just i don't want to use it so just try to polish it out yeah you can polish it well it also has a little crack on the back which i could probably hide when i crack on the back a back crack which i could probably hide when i taped it back down but yeah

[00:42:59] I don't know yeah a new finish does an excellent job really polishing up canopies no or flits yeah flits called flits chrome polish or anything like that yeah oh okay yeah i and i restore the matchbox cars and i have fairly heavily scratched windshields and so forth in these and usually i'll just take a cotton buffing wheel put it on my dremel and some of the new finish and it's surprising what i can salvage yeah interesting so there you go well this is a lot thinner than those though well that's true yeah i've done it on aircraft canopy just don't use the

[00:43:33] Buffing wheel do it by hand i'll have to try that yep it shouldn't be hard to pull a new canopy

[00:43:38] Though i wouldn't think well we'd have to figure out how to make a plug for it but i don't think it would be that difficult like i said i i think it's small enough i'm pretty sure that just the canopy the plexiglass portion will be able to run or be ran on brian's vacuform machine so that's my thought on that one cool i did finally start to cover yes by the way i covered the and you're not

[00:44:00] Going to go back with the original colors no i'm happy to report there's pictures on there to

[00:44:07] Where you can see where i have the the rudder finished and the vertical stab carbon fiber but yeah so i was going through my covering and stuff and looking to see what i had color wise and stuff i just i like that carbon fiber look i don't know why a lot so yes i'm not going to overdo it on there it's still going to be mostly white with carbon fiber accents because i still like the white color

[00:44:32] To do it i think that will so is it just going to be white and then the dark color of the carbon fiber

[00:44:37] No other color no there's probably going to be some sort of red or black black maybe is a dark accent oh dark blue see i do have some of the blue still that's the metallic blue that i thought looked kind of good on the on the dualist on the dualist yep and that would transition into the carbon yeah yeah i haven't decided yet there's still i mean i'm so bad when

[00:45:00] There's a lot of surface area on that airplane to apply color too so i'm i'm bad when it comes

[00:45:06] To planning so we'll see how it goes i've got the horizontal stab and elevators i'm working on the horizontal stab now elevators are done they're going to be all white i figure i can apply something over it later if i need to there's something else i was going to say i don't remember

[00:45:25] What it was now because i was going to ask you a question but anyway if i think about it later i will remember and interrupt you so that's where i am on that yeah build log looks good you went

[00:45:37] Up to brian's i did you were nice enough to be the courier for me i picked up a motor and speed

[00:45:45] Controller for it a honking big motor and a hacker big motor it's huge motor in my washing machine is not that big i mean this thing is enormous i mean it's i mean for a brushless motor it's probably

[00:45:58] The biggest brussels motor i've ever seen well okay i mean it's a big plane so it will need something but true so i have changed my mind originally it was going to be just a glider for this year but i have changed my mind after talking to to you tommy when you said well that's stupid don't do that you i did not say it like that and i kind of agreed after i kind of thought thought about well especially because i i it's going to be a learning experience landing this

[00:46:30] And i would as you pointed out it would be nice to have some sort of backup to not

[00:46:37] Have just only one chance to land right so as we go around capability it's going to go a long way yeah yeah and so the the propeller i'm supposed to be getting for it which i haven't ordered yet but it's supposed to be a 20 i think a 20 inch folding prop the only thing that's going to suck with this airplane and it's how it was designed the propeller will hit the ground so you can't take it off from the ground it still has to be well from what i've seen somehow either hand launched or people literally have just taken it and chucked it and that's been enough or i've seen people that

[00:47:11] Have built sleds oh like a dolly yeah there you go dolly so that'd be cool we'll see we should build one maybe because then we could use it for our other gliders well that wouldn't not that we

[00:47:22] Need them but i was gonna say i wouldn't do much for it i wouldn't think for the other gliders because it's just enough to get it moving enough to get air under it so you're not if you don't have a that's true yeah but doesn't have a power system plus all the other guys are glad we have that are

[00:47:36] Powered you can just it'll be fine that was my thought yeah cool no that's gonna be an

[00:47:41] Impressive airplane i i'm excited to see it finished and i wish i had more time to work on it yeah but that will get done at least i am making progress you are not just i'm pleased to report that yes you are making i'm doing the easy things first because then i see some progress being made but so now this is very important i need help naming it what are you guys looking at me for well i'm looking at everybody like any bfg i mean big freaking

[00:48:14] Glider yeah no it has a name i mean it has a that's a boring name like i want a cool name

[00:48:21] Monocode overcast what value hobby cover new cover or cast or something wow let's make it nice

[00:48:32] And not like why do we have to talk about the cheap covering i'm using why don't you ask our five listeners to see what they recommend that's what i was getting to oh so i i was thinking earlier today and i've come up with a couple names i'll tell you what my what i have come up with i promise i won't tell you they're stupid well they are stupid so that's why i know i can't do it myself so here's the thing my goal is to have some sort of tie-in that it will be both a towable glider and a motor glider so somehow i would like to have a name that reflects that so that the ones i came up

[00:49:07] With was to tow or no which you guys think that's stupid the other one is to tow or not to tow

[00:49:17] Which you guys think that's stupid and then the last one i came up with is goes right off the tongue it does the other one i came up with is goes both ways well that i kind of like well let's take that to a big event so here's the thing let me know listeners what you think i should name my airplane and i have decided that if you let me know and i like your name and i use your name i

[00:49:42] Will buy you a shirt off of our website hey nice i like that yeah mobile mouse house mobile oh that's not one that's derogatory well i mean if you like it you like it i don't like that one oh okay

[00:49:57] Like i said it has to have something to do with the fact that it can be towed yeah or powered and

[00:50:02] Whatever we name it whatever the winning name is we'll we'll cut a name on the cricket oh put it on

[00:50:08] The side yeah i mean it's gonna be yeah yeah gee i don't think you have any real estate there to put

[00:50:13] Anything i know i mean there's only 22 feet of wing to put it on no 21 something but anyway yeah

[00:50:21] So yes that's my thing like i said let me know what you guys think a name should be yeah i will buy you a shirt of your choice i like it cheap shirt no just a shirt of your choice

[00:50:32] Whatever you think off of our swag site yep which by the way you can get to right off of our website

[00:50:38] That you it's like you haven't been on this thing for the longest time you're like oh there's this there's that there's this you're sitting with a computer and you are just like lit up well i've

[00:50:46] I've got yeah i've got a fire lit under me i've been really enjoying what i've been working on lately

[00:50:51] Well would you like to talk about that while i go take a nap well i mean we're almost an hour in now i don't matter oh i don't i don't need to talk long talk your heart off you said you had a whole

[00:51:01] Bunch to talk about so bring it well i've just it's not that i have a lot to talk about i've been doing a lot like i've been really really busy since the last time i recorded as everybody knows i got this beast 100 cc biplane project that was a basket case i mean the build log is on the website i've been taking lots and lots of pictures that ron's been making fun of me about

[00:51:21] The size of them i'm going to resize them i think try to make that a little easier to view but okay i've documented every i'm going to interrupt you now step because that's what we were doing this episode is just interrupting each other okay so earlier you said something about renaming it

[00:51:36] I did okay do you want me to offer the same no you don't have to offer the same idea but what were

[00:51:43] You going to say like what what name were you thinking of because i just came up with one and i'm

[00:51:48] Going to tell you after you tell me yours well i was so it's called a beast right the beast i was going to call it re-beast that's stupid i'm kidding it's not stupid that's pretty good but i didn't think it was bad because i'm rebuilding this thing from a basket case go ahead and that

[00:52:03] Ties right into mine what about the basket beast i actually kind of like that i know that just hit me basket beast i had the thought showers raining down on my head the basket beast i kind of like that

[00:52:14] Yeah we'll see i wrote it down what i'll put the same offer out there oh i'll buy somebody a shirt if they can come up with a really cool name for this beast so what are your what do you want the name to be i would like the name to sort of imply that this thing was a a mess like really probably should have been in a dumpster i mean it's like another trash can telemaster almost no although it didn't come out of a dumpster the trash can telemaster was in decent shape yeah this thing is not right or was that's what i mean like that so it's it's really

[00:52:46] Kind of worse than the trash can much worse but i want to convey the fact that this thing was like

[00:52:52] Like a phoenix rising from the ashes does that make sense it does so i'll offer the same thing

[00:52:58] If if one of our five listeners can come up with a really cool name and i like it enough i'll put it on the side have laurie cut some decals for me and i'll buy you a shirt of your choosing off the website there you go so anyway which go ahead just gonna say last thing

[00:53:14] And i said that earlier so it might not be the last thing when we see it's not just you he cuts off when we cuts me off too when we talked before about the basket cases we were working on yeah i rescind my comment like i have seen yours and i have seen mine mine is my yours is minor damage mine is not a basket case whatsoever it is it's i don't have to do anything compared to what you have

[00:53:39] To do yeah i'm actually pretty proud of myself this was if i can say so yeah i've i've put a lot of work into this i mean it's it's all documented on the website so take us through the steps excruciating detail yeah i am gonna i think i walk us through redo the the formatting to make it easier to view but yeah so i mean this thing started off as a as a beast 100 cc was new at one point as they all are and so was mine can you believe it and i'm pretty sure this

[00:54:13] One was crashed at least twice before i got it the last crash the story i got with it was that it was hovering over the runway engine stalled kind of flopped on its back and impacted the runway on the top wing upside down so it smashed all of the upper wing mounting hardware points everything and the damage indicates that that's probably what happened yeah so all of that had to be rebuilt to include all the stuff that was inside the fuselage the center wing panel i really

[00:54:47] Thought i was gonna have to build a new center wing panel but i got lucky there was enough there that i could work with but yeah so the cabane mount hardware the cabane mounts inside the fuselage that's all new the center wing structure most of the inside of that is all new most of the sheeting is new the firewall so the firewall is a piece of quarter inch to me it looks like what's like the the boat grade stuff green green yeah that's what it looks like to me that was just sort

[00:55:24] Of slapped onto the front after they cut the and it didn't even seem like it truly matched no it doesn't it's not even close but to their credit whoever did that it was very solidly mounted with the drywall screws with drywall screws and epoxy they did epoxy it also so i removed the drywall screws and i actually physically tried to remove this and it wasn't going to budge unless i ripped the entire front of the fuselage off which i didn't want to do so see i guess i left it and embraced it i don't

[00:55:54] Have a problem with drywall screws like i know you guys think that it's just a terrible thing to do but

[00:55:59] Well if it works it works mostly just because of the appearance like yeah they were solid i mean it was i mean and you're not going to see it though when the cowl's on but like the four inches of it that was sticking out the back that could potentially puncture the tank oh i didn't realize that i thought maybe

[00:56:14] They used like oh no no no they were like four inch oh regular nice drywall anchors then yeah

[00:56:22] So i removed those i braced up the firewall on the inside as best i could and then i closed up the big gaping holes that they had in and it looks so much better now yes yeah but yeah it's it's it's nearly done so did you what did you color that with so i painted it after i got all the repair done and holes plugged up and stuff like that i just took some parma fast color which is basically the same as water-based craft paint more or less painted it black and then gave it

[00:56:54] A coat of finishing resin over the top to make it nice and shiny and feel feel proof and helps mind it all together exactly yep and it looks so much better now and i use some tri-stock to sort of line the firewall to seal up all those ugly holes that were around the edges and with the cowl on it actually doesn't it doesn't look too shabby i'm i'm very happy with how the fuselage has come out and then i had to repair the wings out there where the interplane struts attached because there was damage to all four panels i had to get really western with one of them but the other three

[00:57:28] Panels weren't too bad what does that mean jiggy western i don't know crazy okay it took a lot of repair on one panel but the other three panels weren't weren't so bad but yeah i'm ready to reapply the covering i did not strip the entire airframe like you did with your glider thank goodness i'm gonna keep it black and red and i'm happy and you're very very happy about that because the majority of the covering is actually not in terrible shape it's in it'll be in a presentable condition when panels look great yeah it'll be presentable when it's

[00:58:02] Done and so like i'm scrolling through the pictures here and just kind of looking so there was

[00:58:07] What the laptop's right here if you want to see them in detail i thought you were looking at them

[00:58:11] Oh i'm just go ahead my question though is you said that the the damage was to the wing from landing upside down the upper wing the upper most of the damage but a lot of the damage i'm seeing on here

[00:58:22] Was not just from that what it looks like right no there's damage from previous crashes landing gear incident landing gear yeah pulled out the landing gear block at some point because there was a really ugly repair and the block was actually loose in the airframe when and when i got it the landing gear block so i had to put that all back together and clean up the sheeting that was underneath it because that had not been repaired from the previous repair so yeah i'm pretty sure this airplane's

[00:58:51] Crash at least twice maybe more it's had a bit of a rough life before i got here yeah and so then

[00:58:56] That was just like crash crash from what you can tell or just like a hard landing hard landing yeah so there's no like looking at the damage on it it looks like it's hard landing and then the final

[00:59:09] Yes flip over yeah and i imagine that the hard landing is probably what pulled the firewall off the first time because there's there's supposed to be a motor box like on most modern airplanes there's a motor box on the front that that was completely missing and this big hunk of plywood was hung on the front of the airframe so i think the hard landing may have pulled the motor box off initially because this thing was flown with that ugly firewall on it because there's oil standing on it from the exhaust oh so it wasn't even sealed when they flew it oh no no it's just raw plywood just raw plywood oh

[00:59:43] Man and the big gaping holes in the fly and the flywood in the firewall we're allowing exhaust residue and oil all the way back into where like the radio mounting area is so that's why i wanted to

[00:59:55] Get make sure to keep your servos lubricated right right yes or hot i mean if you but yeah

[01:00:02] This the pipe tunnel this one so i think initially this airplane was flown with the with like the dle 111 with the stock mufflers because there's two ginormous ugly holes in the bottom of the cowl where like the stock mufflers would exit yeah but it had pipes on it when i received it so i'm not sure what i'm going to do about the cowl i would like to close those holes up but i'm not a fiberglass guy and i hate dealing with fiberglass so yeah i don't know i mean i've got a lot of

[01:00:38] Practice with reggie cows i can fix it well you may get the job because i i of all the things we do in modeling fiberglassing is probably my least favorite like i i suck at it like i don't know i always make a mess and i get stray fibers everywhere i don't know how to cut the stuff without it fraying i love being itchy well that part i don't mind it's just the repairs never come out clean they're always anyway so yeah the firewall but luckily the firewall is not cracked it's not like broken like

[01:01:12] The two pieces still fit together and they clamp up nice so i got really lucky i feel like with the firewall so i don't have to repaint anything which was another factor i'm not a big fan of painting either yeah but yeah it's it's been a big project and i'm really really pleased with how it how

[01:01:31] It's come out and so you showed me the motor the other day with a loose carburetor that's how it

[01:01:38] Came off the airplane man i don't know like i don't that could have been maybe why it crashed

[01:01:44] Maybe i don't know but i mean it would make sense it was very loose like almost to the point where it

[01:01:49] Looked like somebody tried to take it off and then stopped well see that's what i was thinking like did they maybe take the original carburetor off of it and put some crappy carburetor back like i don't know i haven't even tried to run this thing yet it may not run i don't know bob has a spare

[01:02:03] Though so 111 you mean carburetor both okay so he said if this one doesn't run he'll swap me so

[01:02:10] We'll see i think it'll be fine yeah i mean it has good compression and the carburetor it's a it's a walbro type carburetor so they're fairly easy to put back together yeah so i think it'll be okay the ignition we'll see that's that's probably the one thing i worry the most about besides the landing gear area because there's just not a lot of meat in that structure where the fire or the landing gear mounts i tried to brace that as much as i could but there's just not a lot to tie into there so yeah i'll just have to be really careful on my landings yeah it'll have to land like a

[01:02:45] Butterfly with sore feet on ice never heard of that well must be an old person thing must be no but it's it's looking pretty good like i like yeah i can't wait to actually see it fly yeah me too

[01:02:58] I'm i'm really happy with it i'm ready for to put the covering back on it now that's where i'm at yesterday i went up to brian's found some covering that matched so i'm ready to to finish this

[01:03:10] Thing back together and hopefully fly it in the spring man i'm starting to feel like a slacker

[01:03:15] It's been man it's been a lot of work like if you look at the pictures there's it's been a lot of work yeah probably the most work i i mean it probably would have been easier to build a new one from a

[01:03:25] Kit oh yeah to be honest well that's why you don't count your hours in time oh my gosh you can't yeah you enjoy what you're doing or else you wouldn't plus you'll have a really nice airplane when you're done yeah yep so that's where i'm at with that i'm a little jelly because that's the only biplane that i really would ever have an interest in owning yeah and i'm i'm yeah i like the black red and

[01:03:48] Gold i'm glad i decided to keep that i am glad you talked me into that so well it just had to do with

[01:03:53] How much you had to repair i just i'm glad that you didn't have a lot to do yeah i just need help

[01:03:58] Naming it now i know same deal if if any of you listeners out there have a good name for this then i like it i'll use it and i'll buy you a shirt of your choosing i like it okay that was it i mean

[01:04:12] That's you said you had you had i mean like hours of conversation well i have hours of reading that

[01:04:18] Somebody could probably do that i need to really clean that up you're right but i mean i just wanted the pictures to be really really detailed and they're way too big so well i'll do

[01:04:30] What you did you can show me how you did that and i'll fix it there we go but yeah that's it that's

[01:04:34] All i wanted to say i'm really happy with how it's coming along and i'm really proud of it

[01:04:40] Actually i wish i could remember what i was going to say before but i sure can't should have made a note it's just completely out of my mind oh well don't forget by the way new listener survey oh

[01:04:52] That's right v3 third one we've done yeah we got a lot of feedback actually on the on this last one

[01:04:59] Yeah i was surprised by some of the answers we got so yeah i was very appreciative that that you

[01:05:05] Guys took the time to do that yeah appreciate you so those who haven't please do go do it yeah it takes a few minutes it's not a big yeah it's easy there's a link right off our website

[01:05:17] It's right here it's like it's a brand new website i know it's like hey he's got a computer now well

[01:05:22] I'm just really fired up i don't know this product something about this beast project really got me fired up and then when i started the log it yeah it the the two like fueled each other it was weird

[01:05:32] That's awesome yeah i'm happy about that that's so cool i'm glad to see progress being made so does that mean you're going to join eli this year i mean yeah i'm going to okay i don't know if

[01:05:43] I ever got a an actual yeah i'm going to i don't think i ever wavered on that i mean yeah i'm gonna cool join so i can fly there i'm gonna have to if you're gonna let me use your plane to get my turbo

[01:05:54] Waiver i think that'd be a good idea yeah okay well i haven't been doing much other than reggie's project but daniel last night sent me a photo of his swap me cub that he bought the smaller one most recently oh not the green white not the big green white one but the smaller one talk about overkill really he sent me this photo he says i don't know where all these wires go so this is a 60 size cub okay not small but not big yeah 78 inch something like that

[01:06:25] I'm not sure if it's a great plains or a hanger 9 i'm not sure which it is but okay it's nice it's nice size it has a gyro of all things why would a cub need a gyro a telemetry module maybe for takeoff telemetry telemetry module the tm 1000 yeah okay tell you what and a nine channel receiver a four channel cub isn't that what you need it's a nine channel receiver i mean i could oh

[01:06:52] And two satellite receivers oh my gosh in a 60 size cub yeah maybe you should see if he wants to trade

[01:06:58] Man well i already owe him for that rcv engine i gotta figure out what he wants for that the what he doesn't care about it it's fine well anyway but yeah i just it's like yeah you're right that's like a lot of overkill that's i mean you may as well put a power safe in it at that point okay stop

[01:07:16] I have not ordered that yet but i will be doing overkill for the the the gyros coming out of it there is no reason to have a gyro in a cub the only reason i think especially a big cup to put a

[01:07:27] Gyro in a cub is for the rudder on takeoff and landing yeah yeah because if you're not careful

[01:07:33] Like landing's not anything i that's bizarre yeah and the telemetry module is probably coming out and

[01:07:39] I'm not sure if it was just measuring battery voltage or if it was doing engine rpm or temperature

[01:07:44] I don't know what sensors were on it i could i could see like i mean actually considering putting not a tm 1000 because those are like 15 years old now but i'm actually considering putting a a thermocouple loop on the beast probably wouldn't hurt yeah because i wouldn't i mean because it's not baffled that big 111 it's not a in a baffled cowl so i don't want it to you want to make sure it doesn't overheat yeah so absolutely i mean i like the telemetry idea but yeah a gyro in a cub yeah a little overkill i think so and a nine channel receiver yeah that's a

[01:08:18] Little with with two satellites two satellites well he just wanted to be sure he just wanted to make sure that his connection was solid they're like i don't blame him on that one i guess i don't know that's true you're kind of like that too i am okay whatever so anyway we're gonna get

[01:08:34] That cleaned up a little bit yeah start calling ron mr power safe no it's not a good idea i did i don't

[01:08:42] Know why it didn't hit me until like last week that that one's not going to be able to be i have to figure which one's on which but if we're doing aero toes i have to use both transmitters what do you mean well i can't fly each airplane together glider and tug have to be on separate

[01:09:01] Transmitters yeah and they're both in one transmitter right now oh i'm gonna have to

[01:09:04] Separate that out well the glider's not on anything yet but yeah i'm tracking that glider

[01:09:08] Might have to go on the ix well we can put the we can put the the tow vehicle on my transmitter

[01:09:14] Or on mine that i carry with me everywhere or mine or yeah you're right yeah they will have to

[01:09:22] Obviously be on separate transmitters i didn't even think of that yeah didn't hit me until like

[01:09:26] Said about a week ago when i was trying to figure out how to get everything together well hopefully

[01:09:30] You won't necessarily need a tow vehicle because it'll be powered well but i still want to do that like i want to have the option what won't that look kind of funny though if somebody's towing you up and there's a motor on the front of your glider i don't care what it looks like it's still part of

[01:09:45] The fun of doing it take the blades off i thought about that but i thought i also want them on just in case i need them to go around like i'm a big proponent of that now as i think about yeah not the one case landing i get which it honestly the the field in springfield is not that big of a deal because it's so long long yeah but yeah eli it might be a little bit more of a challenge yeah and i'm not ready for a challenge yet that's for sure so yeah it'll have to go like that transmitter

[01:10:15] Transmitter yep good call cool that's all i got that's all i got i just really wanted to talk about

[01:10:21] The beast not proud i am of it i'll wait till you're done that's gonna be even better i can't

[01:10:26] Wait can't wait to maybe maybe as early as next week we'll see seriously yeah i'm fired up man well

[01:10:32] When you when you finish it let me know because i want to be out to watch you fly it well i mean i'm not gonna fly it next well i get that but i i understand that but when you actually fly it i want to be there yeah i gotta wait for the weather to warm up yeah we do well someone's gonna have

[01:10:44] To videotape the crash we'll throw a gopro on there well there's plenty of room hey perfect timing

[01:10:51] Worries oh yeah good deal all right well then she's gonna kick us off so let's get off here

[01:10:57] Thanks for listening everybody new listener survey v3 if you haven't filled that out yet

[01:11:03] Please do okay anything else i'm good i'm good too okay thank you everybody have a good night
