Ep 36: We’re on Patreon! Ron built a third Duellist Wing, Vacuum Bagging the Wing, UMX Airplanes, and Listener Questions

Ron built a third Duellist wing in the hopes of third time’s a charm, and it seemed to have worked out well. He talks a little bit about how the vacuum bagging went, and covers some other things about the build.

The guys talk a little bit about UMX planes and they discuss flying them with and without AS3X. Tom thinks AS3x is cheating.

They have a few listener questions to answer, and talk about a great tip for removing CA glue.

Warped Wings, Retracts, and Listener Mail

In this episode of the RC Plane Lab podcast, Ron and Tom discuss how to straighten a warped balsa wing while it’s still in the bones, or hasn’t been sheeted yet. They also discuss the different types of retracts used in model aeronautics, and respond to some listener mail.

If you want to have a message read on the show, head over to the Contact US! We’d also greatly appreciate it if you would fill out our listener survey and take a look at some pictures of our listener’s airplanes!

Here are the pics of the retracts we said we’d put on the website.

Ep 34

Episode 34’s tool of the week is the Airplane Stand. It’s makes working on your airplane easier because you can set the fuselage at any angle and easily get to what you need to see.

Ep 32

Tom picked the Midwest Products Hobby and Craft Square for this week’s tool of the week. If you don’t have a wing jig, it can help make sure you are assembling your ribs square to the plans and can help if you’re building a square fuselage. It also has handy gauges to easily and quickly measure the thickness of your balsa, or the diameter of round rods.

Ep 31

Tom chose a Dremel for this week’s tool of the week, and boy was that a good choice. Dremel’s come in handy all over the house, not just while building RC airplanes!
